Stars, Serpents and Stories
Unveiling the Cosmic Influence on Premchand's Masterpieces
Tumblr media
It's said that a person's kundali (कुंडली) is a map of their soul and Dhanpat Rai Srivastava, better known as Munshi Premchand, based on his pen name Premchand is no exception.
Katha Samrat (king of stories, a title given to Munshi Premchand) Munshi Premchand is an Indian writer famous for his modern Hindustani literature. Premchand was a pioneer of Hindi and Urdu social fiction who was well-versed in the art of touching hearts.
Tumblr media
Munshi Premchand has cancer (कर्क) stellium in the first house, which not only shows up in his way of looking at things, i.e., perspective, but also, specifically his writing style. Since the first house rules personality, the sun, venus, and mercury conjunction in the zodiac sign of cancer serve as the key to understanding his personality.
The basic rule of astrology states that houses show you where planets show you what, and the zodiac signs tell you how.
His mercury in the zodiac sign of cancer sign (कर्क राशि) helps give us a lot of clarity in gaining a deeper understanding of his works, the brilliance behind his writing style, his ability to sway his readers, evoke strong emotions within them and deeply move them just through his words.
Cancer's emotional, caring, motherly, and sensitive influence can be seen in the way he expresses himself through his works. One of his works named 'Bade bhai sahab' (बड़े भाई साहब) which quite literally means the big brother or the elder brother, a story written from the perspective of a young brother leaves no stone unturned to make the reader feel deeply attached to the protagonist and the deuteragonist i.e. the elder brother of the protagonist. His psychological genius lies in his sensitive and emotional nature, which gives him the ability to get inside the minds of every type of person, regardless of whichever age, gender, and strata of society they belong to, to look within and through without the differences. The zodiac sign of cancer plays a huge role in his works as it's quite difficult to read him without crying. It's stated often, in general, that it's next to impossible to read one of his best works known as Nirmala (निर्मला), which is a deeply moving melodramatic novel.
Another really interesting aspect of his birth chart is a huge emphasis on Ashlesha Nakshatra. Ashlesha nakshatra, ruled by mercury and among other things, means serpents or sarpa (snakes). The symbol of Ashlesha nakshatra is a snake.
Tumblr media
He has (according to astrosage data) his Venus, and mercury in the ashlesha nakshatra, which yet again shows up in another one of his works.
One of his works named 'Mantra' (मंत्र) reveals a striking connection to his ashlesha nakshatra placements. Mantra (मंत्र) is a short story where a serpent or a snake (सर्प) and a snake bite play a significant role in leading to the turning point of the story. His connection to ashlesha nakshatra (अश्लेषा नक्षत्र) can be easily seen in the story. In addition to this, another one of his works known as/ titled Naag Puja (नाग पूजा) quite literally means 'Naag/ Snake Worship' and reveals a great resemblance to the subjects involved with Ashlesha nakshatra. The story revolves entirely around the themes of ashlesha nakshatra and ashlesha energy has been explored in depth in this intriguing thriller.

Entering Kingdom of Simplicity
To me, it does not matter if the Simplicity process comes from within our body, or from outside, such as Spiritual or Soul, because this process is separate from our ordinary sensory-information gathering process.  This is the next progression of human development and growth.  The caterpillar becoming the butterfly.  The immaterial uniting with the material.  The unseen with the seen.
The reason it is a kingdom is because it is separate and independent from our other bodily and sensory systems of gathering information,  then which is creating our memories, our desires, and interpreting our experiences. Simplicity does not use our sensory channels for emotions.  Happiness inside this Kingdom of Simplicity is not the same as the happiness we experience from our sensory experiences and memories.  Simplicity uses other channels.
There is one entrance to this Kingdom of Simplicity and there is one road that leads to the entrance.  However, there are many branches connected to this one road.  How close is the branch that you are on to the entrance?   All branches will lead you to this one road and this one road to the entrance.  Some branches are far away, and some are close to the entrance.  These branches do not get you to the entrance.  The road is the road to the entrance and the entrance is always open.
Christianity termed it as the New Heaven and New Earth.  To me, I view this as the Kingdom of Simplicity as then you are perceiving the world in a new understanding and enlightenment.  The old is gone.

If you’re having trouble picking a language to learn you might want to evaluate why you want to learn a language in the first place
Do you want to do it to connect with your relatives? Because you’re moving to a country where you don’t speak the language? Then you already know what you have to do. Get out there and start watching YouTube videos and bothering your grandma to teach you, silly. Just do it.
If you just want to speak a second language for its own sake and don’t really care what, just pick a language that’s common in your region and/or will help you in your career. These types of languages will likely have local news stations in the language, local people to talk to, local language exchanges, a presence on streaming services in your country, etc. In the US this is almost always gonna be Spanish. Sometimes it might be something like German or Chinese but it’s usually Spanish. I give this suggestion because then your motivation is always staring you right in the face at the library when there’s a whole section you can’t read and motivation can sometimes be the hardest part of language learning. And if there’s a lot of stuff to watch and a lot of people to talk to that can also keep you from getting bored.
If you wanna be quirky or different but still want something easy just pick a language with a lot of speakers that isn’t spoken much near you that preferably also has a large presence online so you can watch and read content in that language. So if you live in the US likely something like Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Korean. These languages also have a lot of monolingual speakers so they have a lot of tv, books, and movies made for them and they’re writing in their own language on social media websites.
If you want to learn a dead language decide which ancient culture you’re personally most abnormal about and pick that one. If you’re doing it for spiritual reasons to read a holy book then again you already know what you’re supposed to be doing, silly. Get reading. Find a quirky teacher on YouTube.
If you want to learn an endangered language and/or are interested in language preservation see what endangered languages live near you and if they’re open to outsiders learning them. Local universities often work with minority language groups to make dictionaries and they may have a program locally to help preserve the language you might be able to participate in. If that’s not possible where you live for whatever reason, I’d suggest finding one that you just really like and whose speakers are happy to teach to outsiders. If you’re looking for ones with a lot of resources available to you then something like Hawaiian or one of the Celtic languages would likely be your best bet, but look around. There’s a lot of people out there doing the work to make endangered languages more accessible.
If you wanna play on hard mode then pick a language that’s spoken in a country where almost everyone speaks English because you’ll have to defeat the locals in 1v1 combat before they’ll let you speak to them in their own language. So basically learn a Scandinavian language.
If you want to learn a conlang (why?) then decide which kind of nerds you want to make friends with. If you want to make friends with regular nerds, learn something like elvish or Klingon. If you want to make friends with people that just like conlangs, learn Esperanto. These are generally the most active conlang communities. If you want to just learn a language in a week and only sort of approximately say what you mean then learn toki pona.
If you’ve fallen hard in love with a language then pick that one. It doesn’t matter if it’s impractical or you don’t have a concrete reason. If you know that your love for that language and its culture is enough to keep you going then it’ll keep you going. You’ll find resources if you’re determined enough. Go. Be free.

क्या नींबू इतना बढ़िया है?
Tumblr media

In addition to my Monkey Man post from earlier, the always kind & sweet Aparna Verma (author of The Phoenix King, check it out) asked that I do a thread on Hijras, & more of the history around them, South Asia, mythology (because that's my thing), & the positive inclusion of them in Monkey Man which I brought up in my gushing review.
Tumblr media
Hijra: They are the transgender, eunuch, or intersex people in India who are officially recognized as the third sex throughout most countries in the Indian subcontinent. The trans community and history in India goes back a long way as being documented and officially recognized - far back as 12th century under the Delhi Sultanate in government records, and further back in our stories in Hinduism. The word itself is a Hindi word that's been roughly translated into English as "eunuch" commonly but it's not exactly accurate.
Hijras have been considered the third sex back in our ancient stories, and by 2014 got official recognition to identify as the third gender (neither male or female) legally. Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and India have accepted: eunuch, trans, intersex people & granted them the proper identification options on passports and other government official documents.
But let's get into some of the history surrounding the Hijra community (which for the longest time has been nomadic, and a part of India's long, rich, and sometimes, sadly, troubled history of nomadic tribes/people who have suffered a lot over the ages. Hijras and intersex people are mentioned as far back as in the Kama Sutra, as well as in the early writings of Manu Smriti in the 1st century CE (Common Era), specifically said that a third sex can exist if possessing equal male and female seed.
This concept of balancing male/female energies, seed, and halves is seen in two places in South Asian mythos/culture and connected to the Hijra history.
Tumblr media
First, we have Aravan/Iravan (romanized) - who is also the patron deity of the transgender community. He is most commonly seen as a minor/village deity and is depicted in the Indian epic Mahabharata. Aravan is portrayed as having a heroic in the story and his self-sacrifice to the goddess Kali earns him a boon.
Tumblr media
He requests to be married before his death. But because he is doomed to die so shortly after marriage, no one wants to marry him.
No one except Krishna, who adopts his female form Mohini (one of the legendary temptresses in mythology I've written about before) and marries him. It is through this union of male, and male presenting as female in the female form of Mohini that the seed of the Hijras is said to begun, and why the transgender community often worships Aravan and, another name for the community is Aravani - of/from Aravan.
Tumblr media
But that's not the only place where a gender non conforming divine representation can be seen. Ardhanarishvara is the half female form of lord Shiva, the destroyer god.
Shiva combines with his consort Parvarti and creates a form that represents the balancing/union between male/female energies and physically as a perfectly split down the middle half-male half-female being. This duality in nature has long been part of South Asian culture, spiritual and philosophical beliefs, and it must be noted the sexuality/gender has often been displayed as fluid in South Asian epics and the stories. It's nothing new.
Tumblr media
Many celestial or cosmic level beings have expressed this, and defied modern western limiting beliefs on the ideas of these themes/possibilities/forms of existence.
Ardhanarishvara signifies "totality that lies beyond duality", "bi-unity of male and female in God" and "the bisexuality and therefore the non-duality" of the Supreme Being.
Back to the Hijra community.
Tumblr media
They have a complex and long history. Throughout time, and as commented on in the movie, Monkey Man, the Hijra community has faced ostracization, but also been incorporated into mainstream society there. During the time of the Dehli Sultanate and then later the Mughal Empire, Hijras actually served in the military and as military commanders in some records, they were also servants for wealthy households, manual laborers, political guardians, and it was seen as wise to put women under the protection of Hijras -- they often specifically served as the bodyguards and overseers of harems. A princess might be appointed a Hijra warrior to guard her.
Tumblr media
But by the time of British colonialism, anti-Hijra laws began to come in place folded into laws against the many nomadic tribes of India (also shown in part in Monkey Man with Kid (portrayed by Dev Patel) and his family, who are possibly
one of those nomadic tribes that participated in early theater - sadly by caste often treated horribly and relegated to only the performing arts to make money (this is a guess based on the village play they were performing as no other details were given about his family).
Tumblr media
Hijras were criminalized in 1861 by the Indian Penal Code enforced by the British and were labeled specifically as "The Hijra Problem" -- leading to an anti-Hijra campaign across the subcontinent with following laws being enacted: punishing the practices of the Hijra community, and outlawing castration (something many Hijra did to themselves). Though, it should be noted many of the laws were rarely enforced by local Indian officials/officers. But, the British made a point to further the laws against them by later adding the Criminal Tribes Act in 1871, which targeted the Hijra community along with the other nomadic Indian tribes - it subjected them to registration, tracking/monitoring, stripping them of children, and their ability to sequester themselves in their nomadic lifestyle away from the British Colonial Rule.
Today, things have changed and Hijras are being seen once again in a more positive light (though not always and this is something Monkey Man balances by what's happened to the community in a few scenes, and the heroic return/scene with Dev and his warriors). All-hijra communities exist and sort of mirror the western concept of "found families" where they are safe haven/welcoming place trans folks and those identifying as intersex.
These communities also have their own secret language known as Hijra Farsi, which is loosely based on Hindi, but consists of a unique vocabulary of at least 1,000 words.
As noted above, in 2014, the trans community received more legal rights.
Specifically: In April 2014, Justice K. S. Radhakrishnan declared transgender to be the third gender in Indian law in National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India.
Hijras, Eunuchs, apart from binary gender, be treated as "third gender" for the purpose of safeguarding their rights under Part III of our Constitution and the laws made by the Parliament and the State Legislature. Transgender persons' right to decide their self-identified gender is also upheld and the Centre and State Governments are directed to grant legal recognition of their gender identity such as male, female or as third gender.
I've included some screenshots of (some, not all, and certainly not the only/definitive reads) books people can check out about SOME of the history. Not all again. This goes back ages and even our celestial beings/creatures have/do display gender non conforming ways.
There are also films that touch on Hijra history and life. But in regards to Monkey Man, which is what started this thread particularly and being asked to comment - it is a film that positively portrayed India's third sex and normalized it in its depiction. Kid the protagonist encounters a found family of Hijras at one point in the story (no spoilers for plot) and his interactions/acceptance, living with them is just normal. There's no explaining, justifying, anything to/for the audience. It simply is. And, it's a beautiful arc of the story of Kid finding himself in their care/company.

For those who knew or knew of Wes Nisker, a revered SF Bay Area Buddhist meditation teacher who passed on a few days ago.
———-
Why I Meditate (after Allen Ginsberg)
By Wes Nisker
I meditate because I suffer. I suffer, therefore I am. I am, therefore I meditate.
I meditate because there are so many other things to do.
I meditate because when I was younger it was all the rage.
I meditate because Siddhartha Gautama, Bodhidharma, Marco Polo, the British Raj, Carl Jung, Alan Watts, Jack Kerouac, Alfred E. Neuman, et al.
I meditate because evolution gave me a big brain, but it didn’t come with an instruction manual.
I meditate because I have all the information I need.
I meditate because the largest colonies of living beings, the coral reefs, are dying.
I meditate because I want to touch deep time, where the history of humanity can be seen as just an evolutionary adjustment period.
I meditate because life is too short and sitting slows it down.
I meditate because life is too long and I need an occasional break.
I meditate because I want to experience the world as Rumi did, or Walt Whitman, or as Mary Oliver does.
I meditate because now I know that enlightenment doesn’t exist, so I can relax.
I meditate because of the Dalai Lama’s laugh.
I meditate because there are too many advertisements in my head, and I’m erasing all but the very best of them.
I meditate because the physicists say there may be eleven dimensions to reality, and I want to get a peek into a few more of them.
I meditate because I’ve discovered that my mind is a great toy and I like to play with it.
I meditate because I want to remember that I’m perfectly human.
Sometimes I meditate because my heart is breaking.
Sometimes I meditate so that my heart will break.
I meditate because a Vedanta master once told me that in Hindi my name, Nis-ker, means “non-doer.”
I meditate because I’m growing old and want to become more comfortable with emptiness.
I meditate because I think Robert Thurman was right to call it an “evolutionary sport,” and I want to be on the home team.
I meditate because I’m composed of 100 trillion cells, and from time to time I need to reassure them that we’re all in this together.
I meditate because it’s such a relief to spend time ignoring myself.
I meditate because my country spends more money on weapons than all other nations in the world combined. If I had more courage, I’d probably immolate myself.
I meditate because I want to discover the fifth Brahma-vihara, the Divine Abode of Awe, and then go down in history as a great spiritual adept.
I meditate because I’m building myself a bigger and better perspective, and occasionally I need to add a new window.

"New in town? Me? Nah — been living here since I can think!"
[NC_RES]_27022048-NCA steyr_j_portraits_003_LC_TD.file ///core:_jaysen_steyr.file\\\
⚠️ READ: Please do not repost/reupload any of my art here or to any other platform, or I will be forced to do anything to get it annihilated.
So here's a lil info on him:
As you may have noticed through tags, Jaysen is the twin brother of Vijay. V didn't know about him until in 2078 — Jaysen found out about his brother earlier but was never able to find him until 2078 as well bc V is hard to find.
Jaysen was given away because his and Vijay's parents weren't able to handle two children (you may already know they weren't good parents for V either since they only had work in mind devoting their lives to Corpos, so Vijay grew up with a nanny looking after him instead).
Jay was adopted by a caring pair living in Night City. His foster dad worked as an officer at the NCPD. Jay thought to be their blood until he got to a certain teenage age starting to ask questions where they couldn't hide the truth from him anymore, telling him he was adopted and he was born with the last name 'Steyr' in Monterey and not 'Grayford'. His foster parents knew that he has a twin brother but not his name. So it was all they were able to tell him. After that Jaysen got obsessed with wanting to find him and his real parents.
So, like Vijay, he got himself into exploring the net more and more, collecting data, trying to find out more about his family tree. Over the years he managed digging out data of his parents and finds out his brother's name is Vijay but V seems to have vanished (because V went to live with that gang and deleted his data during that time, giving himself an alias also when moving to Night City because he still did netrunning service for people wanting their data removed (like Ryder)). This is just first thoughts on all this. Details might change a bit and ofc there is more about his backtory, but it's just bits and nothing final so this info should do for now.
On the other side i can add that Vijay already gets foretold by Arki (and Misty), that he's not one only but one of two through tarot cards.
"Wait — why does it say it's two of you. You're an only child, right?" "Yeah, I am." "Like I'm doing this for the fifth time now and it says two. Two of you." "Must've read wrong then. Or those cards are cursed." "Oh, they are never wrong. I'll go to Misty. Can't shake that there is something to it."
Misty confirms that as well but the cards won't say more so it will be the usual investigation to look into but the team has other important stuff and problems right now to do and it happens that Jaysen is the one finding his brother before Vijay can even start to look. How this is going to be, I'll keep for another time. :D
But:
If you ask yourself now where the idea of a sudden brother for Vijay came? Simple: I looked up 'Vijay' again; it derives from 'Vijaya' (Hindi for victory). Vijaya, alongside Jaya, is a gatekeeper of the abode of Vishnu. Due to a curse both (demonic) brothers were forced to reincarnate three times on earth.
A long while ago I defined for Vijay that he believes in soulmates and other more spiritual stuff. E.g. when you die and get born again, that you will find your soulmate, even if it takes centuries. I don't want to say that V's soulmate is Jay here, no, because his soulmate is Arki (hence they fall for each other so rapidly). Arki, too can't shake the feeling that Vijay must have been some ancient divine centuries ago (I did not start this, haha), they both do not just get to know each together, it's more they discover each other again.
Maybe it is similar with Vijay and Jaysen but I see them more like they are one mind in some cases. They have different likes, tastes and character bc they didn't grew up together but also are very much alike.
And what can I say other than this Vijaya and Jaya stuff was not too far away and I thought why not?
This is basically the idea behind giving Vijay a twin brother now just because of looking up name origins, tarot and ancient (soul) stuff, yo. That is how my inspiration works, yeah. And @nervouswizardcycle is always super inspiring and helping if I have doubts.

Stardust
Our relations define us. Our life is a product of who we meet, know, or live with. It has been 955 days and 22,920 hours since I posted my first blog post here. It is now time for a small revealer.
I was not even in middle school when my Nani (maternal grandma) passed away. To be truly honest, I never came to understand her properly. When she was running behind me, I was busy enjoying my new world out of mom's uterus, and when I got some sense, she said goodbye. So she was 'Neelam.'
But this blog isn't about her. It was never about her. She wasn't a poet, writer, or a philosopher. And she did not possibly teach me any of the things I write here on Tumblr. Then what did that old lady do that she has her name written right on the top?
'Vaahini' in Hindi means channel. And my pretty granny decided to make me a delicate channel. So, some stardust was sprinkled on me by my grandma (who is possibly enjoying a glass of wine with the Gods now). And that canon event has led to all the beautiful writing I do. My Nani gave birth to my mother, but that is not too big of an accomplishment.
Nani, you still deserve a million thank yous, and well yes a blog by your name for doing something magnificent. Thank you Nani for raising a girl who is much more than my mother.
PS: She is not at all like you and does not make better food as well.
Thank you Nani for making me fall in love with the festival- Janamashtmi. It was because of you that I dressed up as Radha and sang in my very horrible voice a famous Bhajan dedicated to Lord Krishna.
As a writer, I have had many Eureka moments, and I know that it is your stardust that brings me all those values you couldn't give me in your lifetime.
On a slightly different note...
We go to Uttarakhand every year. Every year it is. My mother loves it and now I have to love it too. I have literally visited every inch of this state. From Haridwar to Chamoli and from Dehradun to Nainital, there is beauty, beauty, and beauty. Aesthetic, spiritual, and cultural beauty. Too much beauty and altitude make me dizzy. But when you know it is the comfort destination for your mother, you end up loving even the mischievous monkeys that reside in every temple’s corridor. Believe it or not Mom, today when I am getting accepted by universities abroad, I understand why the snow in Uttrakhand is gold.
My mother has taught me what a family is. I can’t possibly say that we are the best family in the world because the life I am living with them is the only life I know about. And I can't possibly say that Mom you are the best mother because you are the only mother I have ever had. Plus that would be unfair to Nani. But what I can say is that I am the best version of myself today because I have you.
Happy Birthday Mumma!
This blog isn't the best description of you because you know you are not the best mother in the world.
Tumblr media
Nani, you have to help me choose. Which bhajan from your abundance am I supposed to sing next?
Tumblr media
I greet the divine within you-"Namaste"

THE BASICS
This is Daffy, using any pronouns albeit with a preference for they/them, writing in UTC-6/MDT or UTC-7/MST, depending on the timezone shenanigans. I write 571401-TR/ "Tobs Ri", who’s the primary focus of this introduction, as well as Kanti Jagx, who’s intro is already up. To find starters or interactions for my characters, the format will be [characterfirstname]: starters or [characterfirstname]: interactions. This is a standard format across the blog for all musings, mirrors, etc., and as I start introducing these tags, I fully intend to make a directory, which will be linked HERE.
To get an idea of Tobs, I’ve included a bit of the app, specifically that first part!
[ fin argus, nonbinary, they/them] Look who just landed! 571401-TR “TOBS RI”, I sure hope you packed all you need. Perhaps you’re not worried as an UNDERBOSS of THE SKELETON CREW. The city has plenty of spots for a 25 year old ANDROID like you. You’ll be known in the city soon enough as THE ESOTERIC, being STRAIGHT-FORWARD and ODD.

Aniara by Harry Martinson
We're slowly coming to suspect that the space
we're traveling in is of a different sort
from what we thought whenever that word "space"
was decked out by our fantasies on Earth.
We're coming to suspect now that our drift
is even deeper then we first believed,
that knowledge is a blue naiveté
which with a measured quantity of insight
imagined that the Mystery has structure.
We now suspect that what we claim is space
and glassy clarity around Aniara’s hull
is spirit, everlasting and impalpable,
that we have strayed in spiritual seas.
Sight: The flash of bright blue in a pitch black room, screens so broken no one else can read them. The way neon looks when it rains. The instant fear the fortunate feel when meeting the mechanical for the first time. Sound: It clicks, clicks, clacks in the middle of the night, the motion and sound so frequent it marks the start of a day and the end of a night, so steady who needs a clock? Click click clack. The sound of innovation, of constant movement, of death. Taste: Iron and metal and the burn of it all, old pieces and new combined. Old and new and bright and dark and bitter like coffee overbrewed. You cough and red stains your mouth. Iron and metal and the burn of it all. Touch: Smooth and cold and crisp like water from Olympus. Hard to hold and harder to remember, but they are nothing but water and winter made real. Thought: Find. Work, Adjust. Find. Change. Solve the problem. Find. Adjust. Test. Test again. Adjust. Test. Try. Adjust. Change.
