A Run With Papa Legba
I am being guided to share this story.
A few months ago, my body clock was completely out of sync. I was overwhelmed with stress, teeming with restless energy, and struggling with insomnia. One night, around 2:30 a.m., an inexplicable urge compelled me to go for a run. My gym is open 24 hours, but I’d never ventured there at such an odd hour and knew it would be empty. Still, the guidance was unmistakable.
The drive to the gym was eerily silent, and a sense of foreboding settled over me. It was as if the quiet was amplifying the tension in the air. When I arrived, the parking lot was shrouded in darkness, and the emptiness felt almost tangible. As I walked into the gym, the automatic lights flickered on, casting long, distorted shadows across the room.
I made my way to the treadmills, positioned next to a large wall mirror. The gym’s usual hum of fluorescent lights and ventilation was absent, replaced by an unnerving silence. I started my workout, my footfalls echoing louder than usual. Moments later, the lights began to flicker erratically and then cut out completely, plunging the gym into darkness.
My heart raced as I glanced at the clock: 3:00 a.m. The stillness was profound, and I felt a cold, creeping sensation behind me. I turned my gaze to the mirror, and it was then that I sensed a presence—a powerful, otherworldly force emanating from behind me, through the reflection.
With my background in spiritual encounters, I recognized the energy immediately. It was Papa Legba’s spirit. I had been channeling his energy for weeks, and his presence was unmistakable. His energy was both formidable and eerie, a reminder of the mystical forces that dwell at the intersections of the physical and spiritual worlds.
I couldn’t help but connect the dots—the gym was situated at a crossroads in my town, which also features a train line cutting through it. This location felt like a nexus, a place where spiritual energies might converge. The encounter felt deeply significant, as if the spirit was drawn to this liminal space between worlds.
Despite the chilling experience, I completed my workout, driven by a sense of purpose and resolve. The encounter with such a powerful spirit left a lasting impression on me, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary in a way that I continue to ponder.

My sense of what Crossovers are for, conceptually, the thing they do that other works can't, was entirely formulated by my early-childhood exposure to Kurt Busiek and George Perez's seminal 2004 Marvel/DC crossover JLA/Avengers. Like most stuff Busiek writes it's a love-letter, and part-and-parcel with its status as a love-letter was that he took the time to render the horror and bewilderment that the respective teams had upon encountering the status-quo of their counterpart's setting. The JLA encounter the anti-mutant hysteria, the supervillainous fiefdoms like Latveria, figures like Hulk and Punisher being allowed to roam free, all those tonal hallmarks of Marvel, and they come to the conclusion that the Marvel Universe is hanging on by its fingernails and that the Avengers are somewhere between in over their heads and actively negligent. Meanwhile the Avengers explore the shiny, forward-thinking, optimistic DC universe, encounter the ubiquitously positive reactions they get from people on the street just for visibly Being Superheroes, see things like the Flash Museum and the Hall of Justice, and Captain America comes to the conclusion that the Justice League obviously must have led a fascist takeover of America. Then they hit each other a lot. Anyway, if you're writing a crossover between two works and you want me to care at all, you need to meet the JLA/Avengers Bar. When a character from one work is placed in the context of another work's setting, what commentary on the original work is that character in a position to provide through their outlook and worldview? What insight, in turn, can their commentary provide on on the assumptions and conventions of their native narrative? Have all characters involved experienced enough of the events of their own work that they've actually got something to compare and contrast with, or is the crossover occurring so early in one or more of their respective timelines that you're basically dealing with OCs due to the butterfly effect? Are you actually acknowledging the different properties as discrete narratives that are abrading each other in interesting ways, or are you for the one millionth time reimagining Izuku Midoriya as a native resident of some other setting (seemingly decided via roulette wheel?) And of course, are you correct in your assessments of how these are bouncing off each other? How many times am I getting hit with "They would not fucking say that/react like that/understand their new surroundings in that way/go five minutes without trying to disembowel this fan-favorite character from the other work that you've decided they're getting along great with?"

Cassidy, initially, got away—but she was unaware of what was going on—that the rabbit wasn’t friendly.
The first time William/The Yellow Rabbit had encountered her, with the MCI, she would have been the third—after Susie and Gabriel.
He went up to her, and he’d been about to say something to make her follow, but her family was just like, “We’ve got to go now,” etc.
The family was right there. He didn’t want to deal with everyone. If he took her then, then they’d all know when they couldn’t find Cassidy.
Then it’s like... weeks later. He happens to see her at the restaurant again, and The Yellow Rabbit decides to try again. She doesn’t get away that time.

not a request but do you own any cats ? Or any animal? :3
No, I’m actually really allergic to fur in general, so if we were to have a pet, it’d either be hairless, small, or I take allergy meds everyday 😅
As for cats, I really do like them, however I’ve only touched like maybe 3 in my life. My outside family are all dog people so I’m used to many dogs in my life, but cats are a rarity. I get happy whenever I see a cat, but I am awkward and never touch them unless they come up to me. 😭😭

a while ago, I had been joking around with a friend about the idea of a shonen hero who's like all about the power of friendship and draws strength from their friend group, but their friend group is made up of minor antagonists, and now that I've watched it, I've realized the show I was looking for was mob psycho. That's literally just what mob's friend group is like.

I desperately need to know more about the Tooth AU
i think i have to come out and be honest here and admit that the tooth part is just an subplot in between and mainly its an whole au about sokka still following his father to war. (katara and gran gran none the wiser) and sokka is discovered hiding on the ship, when the Southern Water Tribe Fleet is restocking on kyoshi. and well... technically its not to late to turn back and drop sokka off back home and ground him for the next 10 years. but nope. now sokka with sweet fresh 12 years is on a warship. getting the oportunity to be with his tribe and grow to be a full warrior for the next three years. (don't worry sokka meets suki and she does more then just punch the sexism out of him.) (hakoda adopts his own son au? )
traveling the seas and staying in ports leads to cross path with the fire nation prince jerk that searches for the avatar. they obviously don't get along. even in neutral/mixed ports or grounds the boys can't help but constantly jab and antagonize each other till one day it comes to a brawl where sokka punches zuko in the face and a tooth gets lost. (zuko still wins though. sorry sokka you get later your chance)
and uh well... zukos tooth is found by bato and well they kind of keep it? as trophy? who can say they knocked the prince of the fire nation tooth out and has the proof!!! (that nobody believes, because it could be anyones tooth and the crew is not backing sokka up. TRAITORS ALL OF THEM!) (meanwhile zuko gets his golden one. and his crew wont stop with the pirate jokes. TRAITORS ALL OF THEM)
when i was talking with a friend about it i was always like "the only ship here involved are for transportation" but a few silly headcanons of drunk characters later leads to this sub plot of bato and jee kind of hitting it off behind the boys and their superiors back. sharing their love the wide blue sea and freeing feeling of sailing through her waves. sharing drinks ranting over their brats. jee losing it when he hears that sokka has the princes tooth now as necklace to not lose it. bato having fun pushing jee's buttons to get any reaction out of him (subtly wondering if this counts as bending). they both know they don't have much time to tiptoe around it, when they meet they have to go for it, who knows in what kind of circumstances they could meet the next time. they drink and make a toast to making the best of their time, share a bitter sweet good bye the next morning, hoping the memories last till their next encounter that could also be their last.

Don't think about how Maddie doesn't have her necklace anymore. And don't think about how Wally still has his. And also don't think about Wally giving Maddie his necklace not to replace the one she lost but to represent her ghost family. Don't you do it-
