End-of-Splatoon thoughts.

Thinking about how since the very start, Splatoon has had a feature where players can draw and post artwork and spot them as graffiti on walls or billboards. Or how the weapons have always been paint brushes and rollers and ballpoint pens. Since its inception, Splatoon has been dedicated to engaging its players with the act of creation and creative expression, showing them how their art can build communities and (literally) change the world.

Thinking about finding golden human-made music discs buried underground for thousands of years, and a grand finale music festival. About the Voyager Golden Records. About those human handprints etched into concrete in Alterna. Did those human artists know it would end like this? First a fiery death and then, eventually, a worldwide celebration of music to represent our shared past, present, and future. Did they know that their songs, insignificant in the face of extinction, would one day become the solution that will save the next dominant life-form from the same fate?

Thinking about how eerily similar the Octarian domes are to Alterna. About how close Inklings and Octolings were to repeating the same mistakes as humans. But their doomed fates were undone not by some miracle technology or military power or a rocket, but by music.

Thinking about how humans wiped themselves out with war, and our parting gifts were liquid crystals that somehow paired with the DNA of primeval inklings and somehow infused them with our memories and culture and a Song. And 12,000 years in the future, that same Song will end a war.

Thinking about how art and music and punk culture and rock & roll and friendly competition and petty arguments and water guns aren’t uniquely human concepts, but the fundamental qualities of intelligent life. An inheritable spirit that can cross evolutionary bounds.

Thinking about the theme of Splatoon, that art and music and fun will not die with the human race. That every piece of art we create is a seed we sow for future generations to reap. That our legacy is ingrained into the crust of the earth. That long after we’re gone, the oceans will remember, and they’ll pick up where we left off.

Thinking about how Splatoon says that the essence of humanity –– the thing that will outlive us –– isn't war or prejudice or destruction or greed, it's a song.

Now that I've finished BNHA (read the entire manga and waiting for the new episode this week ), it's baffling the difference between Canon Deku and the fanon Deku that I've seen over the years.

The fanon deku that I've come to know in the years that I didn't watch bnha, is skittish, innocent, bright, and does nothing wrong, also resentful of his childhood friend. All of this I knew from little glimpses of what some people talked about and discussions that eventually took over the entire fandom. So I thought, maybe this is another case of Sunshine MC in Shonen, might as well give it a try.

Boy did I get surprised when i started to watch it.

The canon deku is a storm. He is shy, insecure in some aspects, fierce, passionate, batshit insane, smart and he is also kind and compassionate. Also competitive, stubborn, and self–conscious. He is everything mixed together, so very human and that is something that moved me a bit every time he surpassed his limits and ended up hurt. There was frustration, passion and hurt in every broken bone, in every cut, and he was proud to handle such inmense power at such a young age for a dream he has always yearned for, even if his arms and legs broke time and time again, and sometimes I caught myself thinking; "just stop, you are hurting yourself so much, you are going to die like this and what will happen then?", and then I started to sympathize with his poor mom; his broken bones made me want to cry.

But at the end, in the process of developing that power, he learned a lot; from other people, his classmates, villains and from himself even. He became something, I don't know how to describe it, but he became something good. And then, I wasn't really worried anymore; of course there wasn't as many broken bones as before, there was some questionable decisions he made, but at that point, he had grown into his dream.

I really love that nerd.

I love Vic Michaelis you see them in group activities and they get all tiny and polite and pitching in jokes at just the right time that maybe not everyone in the room hears, just four degrees left from Scared Of Being Here With All These Cool People............ and then they start acting and the God Complex fully kicks in

the one thing i find so cool abt all the new pjo artwork is how different the two percys are. book, black hair? goofy lil goober. hawaiin t-shirt, devious smirk, sword in hand. tv show, golden hair? haunted eyes. hand of god. less snark, more boy-hero than we can interpret in the books.

Beefleaf mermaid au painting + the concept doodles that got me here

My idea for the au was something like "Shi Qingxuan is chronically ill, so their brother hunted down mermaids to use their scales to make a medicine. The medicine worked, but then Shi Qingxuan found one of the surviving mermaids in the aquarium in their basement." No idea if I'll end up doing anything more with that idea though

Back To School Pride was SO FUN!! I've never been to a Pride event before -- this was my first time ever being able to go because I am finally not living at home anymore [my parents are awesome, they just don't love the idea of me being queer]. I got free pins and stickers and trinkets and candy and SOME GUY DREW A FREE PORTRAIT OF ME!!! [it's so so so cute!! and it has the genderqueer flag and a tiny mustache on it] AND! I bought a genderqueer pin and a tiny stone shark [with cash so my parents couldn't trace it]!! I talked to some feminist church bloggers and I volunteered to have them interview me for my experiences as a queer LDS woman [it would be so cool to be a guest writer for them??]. I met friends and got fliers and got invited to queer events and I am so so so overjoyed. I LOVE BEING IN COLLEGE AND I LOVE BEING QUEER AND MORMON!!!
