A rare beauty

“What in the world is that?” That’s a natural reaction when you first see this Hubble Space Telescope image of LL Pegasi. The extremely dim spiral pattern is real, and its regularity suggests a periodic origin for the nebula’s shape.
The spiral is thought to arise because LL Pegasi is a binary system, with a star that is losing material and a companion star orbiting it. The companion’s gravitational influence helps sculpt the nebula. The spacing between layers in the spiral reflects the 800-year orbital period of the binary.
Credit: ESA/NASA & R. Sahai.
ALT TEXT: At center left, a faint spiral structure with wide bands has a dark, dusty center. To its right, a bright white star displays four prominent diffraction spikes. A handful of smaller, more distant background galaxies are also scatted throughout the image.

The Black Eye Galaxy

The Black Eye Galaxy, also known as M64 or NGC 4826, is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Coma Berenices.
It is approximately 17 million light-years away from Earth and is notable for its distinctive dark band of dust that gives it the appearance of having a "black eye."

NGC 604: Giant Stellar Nursery in M33 - August 16th, 1996.
"The nebula cataloged as NGC 604 is a giant star forming region, 1500 light years across, in the nearby spiral galaxy M33. Seen here in a snapshot by the Hubble Space Telescope, over 200 newly formed, hot, massive stars are scattered within a cavern-like, gaseous, interstellar cloud. The stars irradiate the gas with energetic ultraviolet light, stripping electrons from atoms and exciting them - producing a characteristic nebular glow. The details of the nebula's structure hold clues to the mysteries of star formation and its effect on the evolution of galaxies."

The Surfboard Galaxy (M108, upper right) and the Owl Nebula (M97, lower left) // David Cheng
Located near the Owl Nebula (M97) on the sky, the Surfboard Galaxy was discovered by Méchain in 1781, only three nights after he found M97. Messier himself observed it about a month later, although he didn't measure its position and so did not include it in his catalog.
William Herschel (1738-1822) independently discovered it in 1789. It wasn't until 1953 when American astronomer Owen Gingerich (1930-2023) identified it as M108.

Ok but Austin did so good ?? During the show ?? I had no idea he could act it was like . I don’t know it was just really GOOD. His growing desperation was so convincing especially towards the end of the show . FUCKING amazing
#the clothing room scene where he reacts to Ethan’s death#and the man is just screaming at the top of his lungs#absolutely amazing#I will rave endlessly about how amazing all of the actors were#I had zero idea half of these people could act and I was blown out of the water#everyone did amazing but I really wanted to pull attention to Austin#the ‘HELP. HELP ME.’ was comical and then slowly spiraled into genuine fear#immaculate#nebula rambles#genloss#generation loss#austinshow#Austin show
