I've got some mohair and my book and my wheel

Going tontry eone slub yarn, because I am one of those people who have trouble with spinning fat yarns.

Mohair is not my favourite fiber to work with, but experience tells me I will have an easier time making the slubs.

Finished this project today, not related to the spin along but came out well enough to share. I have decided on slub yarn as a standalone singles for my February spin along project. I'm going to have to make sure to really lock the slubs in or it'll be a nightmare to work with...but I think it would make some really interesting weft. Especially if I dyed it after spinning, cuz I generally spin very tight, so the thin sections between slubs would resist dye, and the slubs would be pops of vibrancy. Haven't decided how much I'll make, depends how much time I give myself to spin it. Likely not more than I can pack onto a 4 oz bobbin.

January is for "singles for plying"

I can't find anything on the Hawser plying. 3 and 4 ply is just plying with different colors and thickness.

I found an article about beaded chain ply (eyelash chain ply works similar, but instead of beads you use small pieces of roving)

2023 spin along plan!

January i want to make a 2-color 4-ply Hawser with the hand dyed baby camel, silk and Merino I already have! Not Shure how exactly yet, but that is for yanuary to worry about :D

February: Stand alone single, i want to make energized Singles for weaving. I'd have to buy it and dontknow yet what fiber and what color (but something dark)

March: spiral yarn, the Gimp! Funny name and gorgeous yarn! Have to buy that too, also no idea what color and fiber

April: Opposing plies, Energized Cable, also have to buy new fiber, and no idea about what color and fiber

May+June: Bouclé, full double bouclé with the angora i spun and hand dyed ages ago

July: cable, 8-ply cable, with a batt of Ouessant Merino. The brown is much deeper and darker then on the picture

August: crepe yarn, the colorfull hand made Rolags i got from @swords-n-spindles .

The 3. Single shall be black, and probably needs to be bought (the black batt i still have will be core spun for my sweater)

September+October: core, I want to make a super coil from my fall batts! But i am not 100% Shure about that yet.

November+December: Novelty yarn, Tail spun that will be so fucking colorfull for weaving!!! Have to buy a raw fleece for that l, but that'll be so fun!!!

February spin along mostly done and it's only the 15th! I must remind myself it is ok to celebrate actually wet finishing my yarn for once, even though not wet finishing this particular yarn seems like courting disaster.

^^Never before have I been so cautious in splitting a hank to tie a figure 8. I put my fingers in there and just hit SOMFT and FRAGILE

^^Instant scrunkliness upon release of tension. Energized! Singles!

^^This is. Just. Floating. Not getting Wet. At all.

Sooo...I'mma give that 15 minutes or so to soak before I begin Agitating. Slight Fulling is the goal.

I never really wrote out how this spin along will work 🤔

So: we aim to do 1 yarn per month (the 3 times there is one chapter over two months, it is one yarn per two months)

This said yarn can be as long as you want. Just 20 meters? Good! 500m? Also good!

You can use everything you have at hand. Bought yarn is totally allowed too! No need to spin every part of a finished yarn by hand! I think except for the singles (for obvious reasons) you can use bought yarn exclusively!

Every fiber is allowed, no snobbism allowed!

100% plastic? Shure. 100% plant? SHURE! 100% animal? Also Shure!!

A mix of everything?? Absolutely

maybe DC really did just need 4 or 5 years of wheel-spinning after Didio got fired to pull themselves together. like apart from all the Tom King announcements, most everything else they've been announcing over the past couple of months has actually been good???
