Flying Officer B.P. “Squirrel” Nutkin of 266 Squadron RAF, seen here in a Hawker Hurricane Mk I flown by 266 during the Fall of France.

As the British Expeditionary Force were driven back by Guderian’s Blitzkrieg, 266 was badly mauled while keeping Luftwaffe bombers away from the Dunkirk beaches, losing enough Hurricanes that it re-equipped with the Supermarine Spifire Mk Ia just in time for the Battle of Britain.

Nutkin, resisting what was already becoming known as "Spitfire Snobbery", was one of the last 266 Squadron pilots to convert from his Hurricane. This snapshot, therefore, must have been taken at some time in mid-June 1940, between the end of Operation Dynamo on 4th June and the official start of the Battle of Britain on 10th July.

It was during the BEF’s final withdrawal from Dunkirk that Flying Officer Nutkin, already with two kills to his credit, made ace in an afternoon and won his first DFC.

He was section leader of Red Section - comprising himself, Pilot Officer Tom E. Brock and Pilot Officer J.R.M.E. Fisher - providing top cover for the evacuation, when on 2nd June 1940 they found themselves up-sun from a raid directed against several of the “Little Ships” (civilian vessels with volunteer crews).

Red Section executed a perfect “bounce” that caught the enemy completely off guard, six Luftwaffe aircraft were shot down, and Nutkin personally accounted for two Junkers Ju.87-B Stuka dive-bombers as well as one Messerschmitt Bf.109-E4 from their escort.

“Squirrel” Nutkin finished his RAF service in 1946 with the rank of Wing Commander. It’s widely believed he was promoted no higher after saying “Nuts!” to Air Vice-Marshal Trafford Leigh-Mallory, even though this turned out not to have been an insult, merely a misheard comment about which bar snacks were running short in the Officers' Mess.

Regardless of explanation, Leigh-Mallory - always notoriously pompous about his own image and reputation - made a disparaging entry in Nutkin’s file and refused to amend it. His later death in an accident meant the unwarranted black mark was never deleted.

This didn't concern post-war fledgling new airline BEA (British European Airways), and Nutkin joined them directly he left the Air Force…

…going on to become one of their senior captains before transferring to Transatlantic service with BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation).

During a layover in New York he met and later married Cicely van Gopher of the New Hampshire van Gophers, and on retirement from flying made a fortune in forestry.

Sure! Just a warning, not much is on her personality from what I could find. I hope I pick accurate yandere traits for her :)

Yandere! Spitfire Concept

Pairing: Romantic

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Unhealthy power dynamic, Obsession, Manipulation, Intimidation, Gaslighting (?), Dubious/Forced relationship, Abuse of power, Possessive behavior mentioned, Jealousy, Social isolation.

Spitfire is for the most part has her heart in the right place, although she can be stern and uncaring at times.

Spitfire, like Rainbow Dash, is a yandere who likes to impress her darling.

Which isn't too hard as she's a Wonderbolt!

One of the best athletics groups out there!

Although the two pegasai aren't entirely the same.

Spitfire's morals are questionable at times and I'd think she'd have a temper at times too.

She has lied before although would want to right her mistakes if somepony points them out.

She may be commanding at times but is usually nice and pleasant.

Spitfire also seems like a yandere who's very disciplinary.

If her darling tried to defy her, Spitfire could come off as intimidating.

Maybe you wouldn't listen to an order of hers or refuse her something...

Leading to Spitfire giving you one singular response with an accusatory glare;

"Oh really?"

That would probably be enough to shut you down as Spitfire also seems like a yandere to punish her darling.

Even more so if you rank under her.

Spitfire would be Manipulative, Controlling, Caring, and Disciplinary.

At times she's temperamental but would be fine to get along with if her darling listens.

Spitfire may also like to keep a power dynamic between her and her darling.

She likes to have control over her darling so she can have all of your attention.

Although she mostly comes off as a nice pony, she has her faults.

She most likely would have a pegasus as a darling, due to being a proud resident of Cloudsdale.

This also gives her the ability to command over you, probably trying to drag you into the Wonderbolts to have more control over you.

Spitfire would act like she knows what's best for you.

If you're somehow part of the Wonderbolts, she makes you think you should listen to her due to her being the leader.

If you're a pegasus then she'll offer you private lessons... the only price you'll have to pay is giving her your attention.

Spitfire would make her darling doubt themselves.

If you start getting smart with her, she's shutting it down.

The moment you feel like you can stand up to her, she challenges you.

Spitfire, with her temper and commanding nature, would be able to intimidate her darling.

Secretly she does like to see you cower in fear.

Spitfire has lied to get what she wants before, she'd do it again.

If she was caught, she'd back down and act like she'd never do it again...

Then she does it again but is more careful not to be caught.

She'll make sure no pony believes you if you report her.

So why fight her?

She isn't always like some drill sergeant, however.

There's times when Spitfire shows genuine care towards her darling.

If she feels you haven't tried to defy her then she is softer.

Spitfire's affection still feels like some sort of way to display a sense of ownership, though.

She drapes a wing over you, supposedly to comfort you.

She hugs you and nuzzles into your coat, whispering small praises.

Spitfire truly feels like a yandere who keeps up appearances.

To most she's the nice and pleasant leader of the Wonderbolts.

To her trainees she's a commanding officer.

To you... she's a hellish combination of the two.

It's hard to tell if she genuinely loves you or just likes the thrill of controlling her beloved.

Spitfire may or may not be possessive.

She may feel her power over you is threatened if somepony was close to you.

She likes the idea of socially isolating you away from other ponies.

Spitfire is capable of threatening other ponies.

She'd threaten them to stay away from you... that you're dedicated to her and the Wonderbolts.

You'll feel alone even with ponies all around you.

You can't talk to them at all...

Spitfire probably would not kidnap, she'd just socially isolate you.

But there's no need to cry...

Spitfire will be there to kiss your tears away and keep you behaved... because she loves you, right?

🎆 Backstory:

Like her father, who was a mercenary, Zakiti was a part of the mercenary group the Spitfires. The Spifires all consisted of fire mages and swore an official oath of loyalty to their leader, Kashshaya. Zakiti and Kashshaya were lovers, but ultimately Zakiti killed her after the death of the Spitfires. Afterwards, Zakiti, now without her fire magic, spent the following century travelling the known world alongside traders and merchants, who hired her as muscle against thieves. It was during this time of travelling when Zakiti started to get interested in explosives, as she learned from various people from different cultures about their usages of numerous chemical compounds like sulfur or potassium nitrate. The most important acquaintance during that time was Jiayi, who became her partner and with whom Zakiti spent seventy years together. After her death, Zakiti returned to her homeland and started a small business in selling fireworks. When the war started, Zakiti was contacted by Enki and recruited into the infiltration squad. Her role in the squad is that of the pyrotechnic.

🎆 Behind the scenes:

Zakiti was one of the first OC's created for this fic. The squad at first played a smaller role, but as the plot developed, they all became more important and became a part of fic!Nikkal's found family. Narrative-wise Zakiti is supposed to be one of the mentors for Nikkal, specifically her ""sword-path"" so to speak, because as Niall supports her in developing magic (""fire path""), Zakiti supports her in being creative with what she has and not completely relying on magic alone. Zakiti was inspired by the character June, a bounty hunter, from Avatar the Last Airbender (Zakiti doesn't look like June, though).

Some more art of my two favorite members of the Unwanteds from ‘Mall-Crawlers’: Spitfire and Flashbang. 

@heatherxandxhollyxberries, you mentioned in your nice comment on the character profiles that Quimby/Spitfire was your favorite, so here’s a better look at her design! :)

Flashbang’s ‘Knife to meet you!~’ line is probably one of my favorites in the whole story. 

Both these characters have a penchant for making stupid puns, XD.

Spitfire’s French fry line is directed towards Frankie Gavroche, who is French-American. She threatens to throw fire at him if he doesn’t move out of the way, which is where the quip comes from. She is such a dork. (Honestly, Quimby is one of the dorkiest characters in this. She is definitely a closet nerd, but sometimes it comes out when she’s fighting some of the heroes. Especially Dendrite. She gets into a whole debate with Dendrite MID-FIGHT about why it was crap that Tom Bombadil was cut from The Fellowship of the Ring movie, XD. I feel like this would surprise a lot of people, given that she’s a destructive villain who is very intimidating and brash, but yup. Total dork.) Honestly, a lot of her villainy is owed to all the trauma she went through. It’s very clear that she could have been a hero if circumstances were different. 

I feel like everyone’s clothes in this reflect that it is clearly set in the early 2000s (2002-2003 to be specific), but ESPECIALLY Quimby’s. 

If you can’t tell, I love drawing Flashbang a lot. (Ignore the hand holding the knife, though; I was tired when I drew it, plus these were just very quick scrawls.)

Supermarine Spitfire Vb 'AB910 / SH-F' “PeterJohn I” by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n CBAF.1061 Built at Castle Bromwich n 1941, AB910 is now operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. She currently wears 64 squadron markings and represents Spifire Vb ‘BM327’ when flown by Flight Lieutenant Tony Cooper on D-day. She seems to have reverted back to the later style short exhaust stubs, which may look less authentic but certainly makes her sound better (in my opinion!). She is seen during a series of flypasts at the Shuttleworth Collection’s ‘Flying for Fun’ evening Drive-in Airshow Old Warden, Bedfordshire, UK 17th July 2021
