Hello, I am a random person who stumbled upon you spiderman oc post and curiosity is tugging at me. As someone who is also filipino and wants to learn more about Philippines mythology, I'd like to know more about Len for fun. How is the boy doing lol?
Sorry for the late response! I’ve been busy at work because of the holidays so I can’t be online as much as I usually could.
Len is doing fine; I only started using him in some RP stuff I do with friends, but I do plan on exploring more Filipino folklore with him. Currently his main enemies are aswang (who look a little different from how they were described to me, mainly because I had to make them more threatening/consolidate the contradicting elements of aswang lore). I have this idea that aswang in Len’s world can have different color skin. One powerful aswang in particular has green skin… and because aswang are not mainstream in the US, civilians who see this green aswang end up mistaking him for a goblin…
Another partial inspiration for the Spider-Man powers coming from an agimat is from a Philippine folktale I read called “The Anting-Anting of Manuelito,” which is where I got some inspiration for the idea of where the powers came from. His webs are organic, or at least part of his costume, which is a magic/energy construct similar to what you sometimes see in tokusatsu. In addition to the aswang, he has to deal with the descendants of a special group of hunters who fought Spider-Man in the past, and are convinced that Len will be a threat just like the last one.
I’m a big believer of writing what you know, so I decided to put Len and his friends somewhere in Los Angeles (or a fictional city that is similar). I imagine his neighborhood being similar to Highland Park or Eagle Rock, the latter especially having a notable Filipino-American population. Len lives with his parents, and has many relatives in the area, many whom are doctors or nurses.
Hope this answers some questions! If you want to learn more about Filipino mythology and folklore, the books of Maximo D. Ramos are a great place to start.

That’s so cool that’s how you learned. My mother would speak Tagalog all the time, but I think she purposefully didn’t teach me so she can speak it on the phone without me understanding.
Also cool thing, the upcoming Spider-Man sequel game has a bunch of extra suits, and one of them for Miles Morales is a purple and gold Filipino inspired suit called the Agimat Suit.
NAWH PARENTS BE LIKE THAT MAN!! like my mom suddenly switches to it and I can hear her dissing someone
Honestly feel bad that Filipino isn't my first language and it doesn't help that I didn't know shit abt it until I transfered to a Filipino school for gr 3
(been learning without the basics for a decade or so man, it's rough out here and my accent is embarrassing so I just stfu)
But fr? I gotta check this out rq bc woo!! Bayan mention

Are there any myths involving crystals, gems, minerals, or rocks that give humans special powers?
What comes to mind are talismans and, in the Philippines, they’re specifically called anting-anting or agimat (agimat being more nature given vs man made and thus holding more power).
If they are mineral, it is often tektite or hematite. Sometimes, they are made of organic material and would often have something that resembles a powerful image imprinted on the surface of, for example, wood.
Although, it is more folklore than myth from what I know because it’s isn’t confined to a single story and it’s still being used in the Philippines today and you can buy them in Quiapo, Manila. There’s an anting-anting for every need and for every budget. This is a visual on the agimat, and this is a visual on the anting-anting.
The anting-anting contain religious/Christian-like imagery since they are also seen as powerful in the Philippines. The iconography of Christian images is indigenized and not always accurate to Christian doctrine— like baby Jesus on the first picture, lower left corner (who is naked and, if examined out of the picture, will have a fully erect penis. Otherwise known as “Santo Niño de Titi)
There are myths and superstitions surrounding a multitude of precious stones, although their influence isn't usually enough to qualify as "special powers." Mostly they're just good for luck under certain circumstances (e.g., marriage, childbirth, travel, etc.) or as a preventative measure (e.g., animal attacks, natural disasters, or evil magic directed at the wearer, particularly the Evil Eye [everyone was terrified of the Evil Eye]).
Most red stones (carnelian, ruby, garnet) were considered protective against diseases or poisoning, either by actually negating the harm or discoloring in the presence of it.
Wearing amethyst protected against drunkenness, jade is still considered extremely lucky in China and Japan, and ruby was laid under foundations to prevent the building from collapsing, and agate could grant invisibility.
Ancient Mayans implanted multiple precious gems in their teeth to allow them to better communicate with the gods while the Shan people of ancient Burma would sew rubies under their skin to protect them in battle.
Curved stones with a hole bored in the larger end, called magatama, feature heavily in early Japanese mythology, although they're usually used as a trade item.
The main exception to this is the Yasakani no Magatama which is a part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. It's used in the enthronement  ceremony in combination with a sword and mirror to confer imperial power to the emperor.
Multiple Native American tribes of the American Southwest considered turquoise to be significant. Ojibwe dreamcatchers traditionally contain a spider made of the stone to catch and eat bad dreams. In the Acoma Pueblo creation myth, the Creator taught the people how to make turquoise and shell beads that would make the wearer attractive and beloved. The Apache attached pieces to their bows to improve their accuracy.
It should be remembered that in the ancient world, there wasn't much of a definition of any kind of stone beyond it's immediately observable properties (e.g., color and hardness), so a lot of precious stones were lumped together under one name or mistaken for one another.
Also, the meaning of a lot of gem names has gotten more specific over time so while sapphire now refers to the gem quality corundum it used to just be the Latin word for blue. SO if you're looking for a specific type of stone being significant in the ancient world, you might be out of luck.
As a side-note, diamonds are not historically or mythologically significant in any way. Their association with love and courtship is entirely thanks to marketing efforts by the De Beers cartel to keep demand high. This would also be the same cartel that controls the production and supply of the literal tons of high quality diamonds that have been mined in South Africa so that prices stay high as well.

I’m mainly focusing on Spider-Man for my Spider-Verse OC, but I couldn’t resist trying to think about what other superheroes from the Marvel multiverse also existed in Agimat’s world, and what form they would take there…
Since Len lives in an alternate LA, it made me think about how just an hour or two outside of LA is Solvang, a Danish community. And since that gives some tie to Norse mythology, I wondered if Thor could live there and what that would be like.
Naturally, being me, I went and decided to read the older comics, to see what tropes were there at the beginning. Thor’s very first appearance establishes a lot of rules on his powers, as seen here.
Full disclosure, the Thor of my universe is totally going to have a transformation sequence like the new Superman. Get some Precure/magical boy transformation in there.

Spider-Man Agimat.
Some friends and I decided to do a Spider-Verse RP, so I’ve been spending the last couple of days making notes on what my own Spider-Man OC would be like. These two Picrews are good placeholders until I get around to commissioning actual art of him. Since I’m Filipino-American, I decided to make him Filipino-American, too.
In Filipino folklore, an Agimat or Anting-Anting is a magical charm believed to give the wearer mystical powers. The source of this Spider-Man’s powers is more supernatural than scientific. Aesthetic-wise I see him pulling a lot from tokusatsu shows like Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.
His civilian identity is a boy named Len Lacson, living in an alternate universe Los Angeles (to the point that I’m thinking it isn’t actually called “Los Angeles” in this world). A pretty introverted, normal boy attending a private Christian school who finds his life turned upside-down when he inherits the powers of Spider-Man.
Unfortunately, previous Wielders of the Spider’s powers haven’t always been good people, and there are others who have been preparing for the day Spider-Man re-emerges… so they can kill him.

More Spider-Man Agimat stuff via Picrew…
This is Henry Ocampo, one of Len’s friends. He’s a bit of an extrovert, and was the one to initiate the friendship with the more introverted Len. When Len becomes Spider-Man, Henry is the first to find out and does what he can to support him (think Richie in Static Shock or Tomoyo in Cardcaptor Sakura).
Henry lives in a big house near the school he and Len go to. His father Nicolai is a big name in a nearby hospital, and wishes for his more artistic son to follow his example. Overtime, Henry will find his relationship with Len challenged as he learns more and more about the legacy his dad wants him to carry…
