Unleashing the Flavors: A Guide to Caviar Food Pairings
Caviar is a luxurious delicacy enjoyed for centuries, originating from the Caspian Sea and made from the roe of sturgeon fish. Its unique flavor and texture make it a highly sought-after ingredient for culinary connoisseurs. But how does one properly pair caviar to bring out the best in the food and flavor?
Wine Pairings
Caviar has a rich and salty taste, so caviar food pairings with wine are essential in enhancing the overall experience. A dry and crisp Champagne is a classic pairing, as it perfectly balances the caviar's saltiness. Another option is a sparkling wine with sweetness, like a Prosecco or Moscato. White wines, such as Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio, can also complement the flavor of caviar.
Bread Pairings
Bread is a staple in caviar service, and the right pairing can enhance the flavor of both the caviar and the bread. For a traditional approach, go for a light, airy blini or a crusty baguette. Crème fraîche or sour cream can also be added to balance out the saltiness of the caviar. Try pairing caviar with a crispy, buttery crostini or cracker for a modern twist.
Cheese Pairings
Caviar can be paired with various kinds of cheese, from soft and creamy to sharp and tangy. A mild and creamy cheese like Boursin or Brie can provide a nice contrast to the saltiness of the caviar, while a sharp and tangy blue cheese can add depth and complexity to the pairing. A nutty and creamy cheese like Comté or Gruyère can also be a good choice.
Herb and Spice Pairings
Herbs and spices can add a layer of flavor to the caviar, elevating the overall experience. Fresh herbs like dill, chives, and parsley can add a bright and herbaceous flavor. A squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of lemon zest can also enhance the flavor of the caviar. Try incorporating wasabi, horseradish, or smoked paprika for a bold and spicy pairing.
Fruit Pairings
Fruit pairings can provide a sweet and juicy contrast to the saltiness of the caviar. Fresh berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries, are a great choice, adding a sweet and bright flavor to the pairing. A touch of honey or a drizzle of balsamic glaze can also be added for a touch of sweetness. Try pairing caviar with sliced mango, pineapple, or papaya for a more tropical twist.
Meat Pairings
Caviar can also be paired with meat, such as salmon, ham, or beef, for a more substantial and filling meal. Smoked salmon is a classic pairing, as the smoky flavor complements the saltiness of the caviar. Try pairing caviar with seared beef or a grilled pork chop for a more elevated approach.
The key is to find a balance between the saltiness of the caviar and the sweetness, acidity, or richness of the food.

Note
I can't explain why, but I'm very excited to play a domestic character and make our friends some packed lunches before they go out demon hunting 🥰
Honestly, I couldn't resist doing this. Please, packing lunches for everyone sounds extremely cute!!
Tumblr media
Lana will have the brightest smile on her face the moment she sees the lunchbox. No really, her smile is extremely blinding and she really, really wants to hug you for the food. It’s filled to the brim with a bunch of different food she likes; pork cutlet sandwiches with a spicy mustard and mayo spread, cucumber and cheese rolls wrapped in ham, and small tomatoes as a side. She always liked the kind of food that you can just eat with your hands. It’s quick to eat and she can go on a run afterwards. In return, she’ll offer some of her favorite dried apples with you!
She can cook, but she’s been banned from using the microwave or any tools if William is within six-feet of her. Somehow, the two of them cause a lot of trouble when there’s food and the kitchen involved.
William will stare at the lunch box and laugh, saying that 'Obviously, you had to provide me the daily nutrients needed to survive!' and take the lunch box. Despite his more rich upbringing, he adores everything you make. He means it, even if he says it in the most roundabout way possible. He isn’t picky with his food, but there’s one thing that he does love: instant ramen. It’s quick, efficient, and if you made it with your own little editions, such as adding in cheese or vegetables on it, he loves it even more. He’ll bring you to a five-star restaurant afterwards because he can’t cook at all.
The last time he cooked there was a huge fire and he was laughing maniacally while shouting how fun it is to cook. He has been banned ever since. He can’t even touch any frozen foods to microwave after the ‘Jeans’ incident.
Rin will slowly get down on one knee, hold up the lunchbox reverently towards the sun, sunset, moon, or anything that’s high up in the sky, and thank you with a straight face. Rin loves to eat fish, especially salmon or tuna. They like how rich the flavors were at that one restaurant that William brought them to, but your cooking makes the fish taste even better. If you packed some grilled salmon with rice, and a bunch of fruit like pineapple, mangoes, and apples on a bed of lettuce, they’ll be extremely grateful. They’ll share with you some of their Swedish fish snacks!
Rin is the one who primarily cooks, and sadly, is often borne witness to the many incidents that are between William and Lana. To them, it’s sad to see that they know where every fire extinguisher is in the dorm.
Hanami will let out a grateful smile and reveal his own lunch box, saying that he made one for you too. Hanami has a huge sweet-tooth, so he’ll be extremely happy by the fact that you packed him something that has a few sweets inside. He loves steak, so if you managed to make that, his tail will start wagging from how happy he is. By the way, remember that lunch box he made? You see those small, glazed donuts that have a small, wolf face made of red-icing on them? It's his handiwork! Do you like them? If you don’t like the donuts, how about his favorite strawberry-flavored candy?
Hanami has become the designating cook in the group, next to Rin. He has a look of horror on his face whenever Rin tells him about the tales of their ruined kitchen from time to time.
Muzik will simply stare at you as he holds the lunch box, and from there, he’ll ask if you’re trying to negotiate for a smaller price on his wares. If you are or aren’t, Muzik...won’t be listening as he’s already taking out a chunk of his wares to sell to you, all for the low, low price of another lunchbox! He likes healthy foods, so if you make him something similar to spinach seasoned with tsuyu, fermented beans with rice, or even a vegan burger, he’ll be extremely thrilled! He’ll share with you some grilled vegetables that he’ll sometimes cook when he has a craving or two!
Muzik can make concoctions that will help your health, but he can guarantee you that they’re so disgusting that you’ll pass out! Lana was the first victim.

hey I got bored at work and made a KH Cafe ‘Menu’ but entirely Org13 themed some are suppose to be the ‘main’ things while the others are me panicking and like “WELL, SHIT,” throwing ideas out against the wall
all for funsies cause im fully aware these won’t look cute on a plate, but hey. it’s the org. they’re the edgy emo kids.
Xemnas:
Meal: Hayashi rice with pickled ginger on the side and the cream swirl. The rice is dyed yellow and in the molded to the shape of a heart. Complimentary clear red chopsticks come with the meal.    Drink: Shaken espresso served in a martini glass. Lightly flavored with vanilla and a cinnamon sugar lip    Dessert: Affogato with vanilla ice cream, cinnamon sugar dusting, and shaved chocolate. An acrylic of his weapon (however hard it is to make two laser swords look cool) comes laying against the serving plate.
Xigbar:
Meal: Pumpernickel, cream cheese, and salmon half-sandwich. Side of a spicy cucumber salad and toothpick skewered tomatoes. The acrylic of the arrow gun is attached to a toothpick, which is holding the sandwich closed.    Drink: Black peppercorn infused blackberry syrup with club soda. Served not stirred for layering effect. Comes with an acrylic of his arrowgun attached to the stir-stick       Dessert: Two slices of roll cake, chocolate outside with an anko cream filling. Plated so they're half laying on each other with a thick chocolate drizzle going across the left side of both cakes. The plate is dotted with whipped cream with a fanned strawberry leaning against it.
 Xaldin:
Meal: Chicken omurice with three strips of seaweed across the egg. Comes with three mixed skewered vegetables on a small bed of lettuce.    Drink: A delicately layered drink with blackberry puree at the base, a rose jelly and syrup layer,  and carefully topped with soymilk. Stirring with the provided berry skewer on a themed Xaldin lance stick will blend the flavors.    Dessert: A single slice of a dense chocolate cake with edible, dried rose petals. It’s more of a torte than a true ‘cake’, and has three blackberry glaze drizzle stripes across the slice.
 Vexen:
Meal: A small bowl of cold cucumber soup with four cream cheese tea sandwiches. Each tea sandwich has two to three small heart-cut pink radish across the top.    Drink: Blue cream soda carefully layered to fade to clear on top. It’s topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some white snowflake shaped sprinkles.    Dessert: Two scoops of coconut flavored ice cream dressed up with whipped cream and coconut shavings. The ice cream balls have a stripe of strawberry preserve and a few dots of mango to pose as buttons to theme it like a snowman. An acrylic standee of his Snowman shield is stuck in the whipped cream
Lexaeus:
Meal: Curry plate with chicken katsu cutlet. Instead of laying on a bed of rice, the chicken lays against side vegetables with the rice is shaped into a mound, placed center of the curry. An acrylic image of Lexaeus's skysplitter is placed into the rice, handle sticking up.    Drink: Hot orange spice tea. Nothing too special, but there is a slice of orange pressed to the bottom of the shallow cup that can be eaten after, if you’re in to warm fruit.    Dessert: A caramel cake baked in a rock shaped mold. It sits on a bed of five banana slices and drizzled with caramel sauce. A few dark brown and orange candy chocolate rocks are also scattered around the base.
 Zexion:
Meal: An open face sandwich on toast, layered with lettuce, cheese, and ham. The top of the ham is decorated with the Organization's logo in mayonnaise. Comes with leafy side salad and fruit.    Drink: Blueberry fruit syrup layered with club soda and edible pearl powder to give the drink an illusionist shimmer. Topped with just enough cream to reach the top of the glass and a dusting of dried blueberry powder.    Dessert: Six small shortbread cookies decorated in icing fondant to look like the cover of his book. Served with dipping chocolate. Comes with an acrylic souvenir of his book.
 Saix:
Meal: Hamburg steak plate with a decorative X shape of mayo across the sauced top, served on a small bed of rice. Comes with a side salad of mixed vegetables and crescent moons of baked kabocha squash. An acrylic of the Claymore is pressed into the center of the steak as if it was slammed in.    Drink: Lavender syrup mixed with American lemonade only until the drink resembles a light grey color rather than a heavy lean into yellow or purple. Decorated with a lemon slice cut to resemble a moon.    Dessert: Dome mousse cake with a deep blue finish. The mousse is lightly lemon flavored with a center of blueberry jam, and resting upon a vanilla cake base. The cake is decorated with a fondant crescent moon and a dusted golden X. Comes with a candied lemon wedge.
 Axel:
Meal: A slice of pepperoni pizza, piled high with small cupping pepperoni, and dusted with chili flake. A side of a tossed, leafy salad is provided to help cut through the heat. A chakram acrylic comes attached to the salad, skewering a tomato wedge.    Drink: Tomato juice and beet juice layered together to make a light gradient-- heavier on the tomato than the beet. Top is sprinkled with cayenne for a little bit of an added kick. Decorate with a small celery leaf.    Dessert: A blood orange flavored cake, square cut and layered into three small tiers with raw edge sides. The top is sugar crusted and crisped in a brulee, with a sun fondant decoration wedged into a few peaks of cream. A twist of candied orange is also placed as decoration
 Demyx:
Meal: Small dish of seafood doria with a side of green vegetable to cut through the heavy dish. No broccoli is in the doria itself, and is instead decorating the side leafy salad. An acrylic of his sitar is laid across the salad.    Drink: A tall glass with a clear, bubbly ramune flavored soda. Blue soda-candy jelly is at the base. It’s served cream soda style, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream balanced at the top and a long blue straw.    Dessert: A raindrop cake with a soft blue-green gradient. The top is dusted with kinako powder. For how simple the dish is, it comes with a side of seasonal fruit and a plastic spork styled at the top to resemble his sitar's handle that you can take home.
Luxord:
Meal: Caprese bites on a bed of lettuce. The cheese and basil base remains the same for each, but the cherry tomato on top varies between a bright red tomato or a dark purple skinned tomato. The salad has a balsamic drizzle and card suits cut vegetables.    Drink: An espresso served with a small container of cream and two sugar cubes, chocolate-dotted to be dice.    Dessert: Chocolate lava cake with a deep red filling, dusted with powdered sugar. It's served alongside thin cookies decorated into playing cards. It can be turned into a meal set with the drink option.
 Marluxia:
Meal: Salad full of mixed greens and colorful radish. Designed to be incredibly colorful, it’s got a few little blooms of edible flowers wedged around the plate. Comes with a few flower shaped breaded chicken ‘nuggets’ along the rim.    Drink: Rose syrup infused sparkling lemon soda, decorated with dried rose petals. There’s the smallest bit of strawberry syrup at the bottom of the cup to really make a pink color. A wedge of lemon decorates the rim.    Dessert: A thin, crisp almost crepelike shell in a low dish holds mixed berries, mint, and thick soft chunks of pound cake. The whole thing is drizzled with a sweet rose syrup. An acrylic of his scythe hangs out among the cake bits.
 Larxene:
Meal: Two skewers of karaage laying on a bed of cabbage with tartar sauce and two wedges of lemon. The other side of the plate has fries with a bit of mustard drizzled across the tips.    Drink: Layered cream soda, blue syrup at the bottom that fades into a pale yellow. It's topped with whipped cream and comes with sour popping candy meant to be mixed into the drink to activate the light carbonation. Comes with an acrylic charm of one of her daggers.    Dessert: Shaved ice with yuzu and orange drizzle. It’s a stretch to include it under the Larxene umbrella, but the sour notes should bring forth thoughts of lightning and shocks.
Roxas & Xion:
Meal: Roxas and Xion share the same half sandwich, as if it was once part of a whole sandwich and split into two meal plates. They differ in that Xion gets a side leafy salad with radish and carrot, and Roxas gets french fries. [ and then i gave up makin them desserts & drinks, since they have the seasalt milk ‘drink’ at the actual cafe ]

626 Night Market Food Review
My friend Rob and I joked that the “626 Night Market” is our favorite holiday. As foodies, it is a very serious endeavor. As foodies that love Asian food, even more so. The 626 Night Market is reminiscent of night markets that are popular all over Asia. The event is held at the Santa Anita Racetrack every summer in Arcadia, in addition to other locations in California and a mini night market in Santa Monica. This year is the 4th year that I have gone to the market. After my first market, we have always done our best to prepare for the event, looking up the vendors beforehand and writing a list of the ones we must go to. We never hit every single booth we want but our notes serve more as a guide so we don’t get overwhelmed when we get there. Yet, we still always end up overwhelmed! But we usually end up going to vendors that made it to the list. Below are my thoughts on the booths that we went to on August 28th and yes, they were all on my list!
Tao’s Baos:
Tumblr media
What I hadn’t realized until after looking at my previous night market photos, was that I went to this booth last year! I did go to the mini night market in Santa Monica in March so I did remember having it then. So this makes it my 3rd visit to this booth. Honestly, can you go wrong with a pork belly bao bun? I have not so far. This time, my boyfriend Collin and I both got an OG bun and a miso bun to share. The OG bun had pork belly glazed with red-braising sauce, peanuts, cilantro, pickled mustard green, and garlic peanut sauce. I am drooling just typing that description. The pork was so tender, that you could bite it without having to rip it and have your bun fall apart. I’m a sucker for anything garlic so the garlic peanut sauce was a perfect pairing with the pork. I’m not usually a peanut fan, but this made the dish. The pickled mustard green offered a nice contrast to the somewhat sweetness of the sauce and a crunchy texture along with the peanuts. The Miso bun had pork belly glazed with miso sauce, seaweed salad, cucumber, dried seaweed, and spicy masago mayo. The miso bun was a little too much seaweed for my taste. I felt it took over the miso flavor I was really excited for! I love seaweed salad so maybe next time I would ask for it without the dried seaweed. The bao buns themselves are the perfect fluffy texture inside but strong enough to hold all the ingredients without falling apart. Overall, OG bun is where it’s at.
California Poke Nachos:
Tumblr media
This booth is self-explanatory. It’s poke, but instead of it being over rice it is over crispy wonton chips. When you order, it is similar to how you would order poke. You choose your protein (2 scoops) of tuna, salmon, shrimp, or ceviche. You can choose to have all the toppings or just remove the ones you don’t want! The options were avocado, seaweed salad, ginger, seaweed flakes & sesame seeds, green onion, cilantro, cucumber, purple onion, mango, and jalapeños. You could choose two sauces which were spicy mayo, ponzu, eel sauce, or mango habanero. I ordered one to share with Collin, so we compromised on a few things. We got tuna and salmon, all toppings (besides jalapeños), spicy mayo, and ponzu. I don’t do spicy so not having jalapeños was great. The spicy mayo definitely had a kick but it didn’t kill me. I chose the salmon but I actually enjoyed the tuna so much more. It was the fresh red tuna that just goes so well with poke. It soaked up the ponzu perfectly. The wonton chips were such a great addition and really made it different. They break a little easier but nothing major. All in all a great combination of flavors and textures.
Bobaful:
Tumblr media
I did go to this booth at the mini market as well earlier this year. But after eating a couple items you definitely need some boba to wash it down. Felt like going for a refreshing flavor but got torn between a classic so my boyfriend and I shared these as well. I got the watermelon green tea and he got the jasmine milk tea. The watermelon boba tea was the exact refreshing drink I wanted. Not too sweet besides the actual boba, which had a good chew, not hard at all. It was mainly a green tea with a hint of watermelon and pieces floating in it. Great summer drink. The jasmine milk tea was also lovely and not too sweet in my opinion either. This is usually my go-to flavor when I want a milk tea and this hit the mark for me.
Hawaiian Honey Cones:
Tumblr media
My friend Dani had been talking all night about how she wanted the J-shaped cone. When she finally got around to it, she was too full to eat it all so we gladly helped her. It is a Hawaiian honey cone made of 100% organic corn cane and Hokkaido-style vanilla ice cream. The soft serve fills the cone from top to bottom. Every bite you have is ice cream and the cone. The cone itself reminded us of honeycomb or cap’n crunch cereal. That with the milky soft serve made it almost a cereal dessert. The crunch of the cone and the meltiness of the soft serve were a good combination of textures. Get it with friends if you aren’t confident you can finish before it melts!
Potato Swirl World:
Tumblr media
My boyfriend loves these swirly potatoes. There are always a few stands that sell them. We were in line for a different potato stand only to realize they didn’t take cards and we didn’t want to deal with the atm fee! So when I was still feeling particularly snacky after the ice cream, I got in line for a potato tornado. I personally love the sour cream and onion-flavored ones. This one had TONS of powder on it which is a big plus for me. I shared it with my boyfriend and my other friends who were there. Collin immediately pointed out how much better this one was than the one we got last year from a different stand. It had that crisp on the outside but softness on the inside. We don’t want a potato chip texture from this! So I was very pleased with our potato.
Ensaymada Project:
Tumblr media
We went to this booth the 2nd year I went to the night market. They sell flavored Filipino brioche. We got one bun each and severely underestimated how good these would be the first time. We didn’t make that mistake again. Last year and this year, we got a dozen. They have MANY flavors but we got traditional cheese, ube, red velvet, dulce de leche, oreo, banana chocolate, cookie butter crumble, mango, and mocha Nutella. The brioche buns themselves are the softest sweet bread clouds. It is so easy to just stuff your face with them. I have had many of these flavors over the years but decided to just have the red velvet. I am obsessed with red velvet anything. The red velvet bun had a cream cheese frosting inside and on the top. It’s not as much as a cupcake would be and it definitely doesn’t need to be. It had red velvet cake crumbles on top completing the flavor concept. I will never regret eating this bun or any of their buns.
Etoile Filante Patisserie:
Tumblr media
I wanted to go to this booth so badly last year but somehow missed it. I did not make that mistake again. I found out the night before I went that you could preorder the macarons for pickup so they don’t sell out. Trust me, this is necessary. These aren’t your average macarons. While they do sell regular-shaped macarons, their main attraction is their character macarons. I went on their pre-order website and ordered the Hello Kitty macaron for pickup the next day. I really wanted their Totoro macaron but it wasn't available. I went back to their website on the day of the market and there it was! So I made a second pre-order for pickup. I gladly went to the booth and picked up both my Hello Kitty and Totoro macarons. The macarons themselves have that crunch but not too much so that the macaron crumbles and falls apart. It stayed intact! Hello Kitty was a strawberry milkshake flavor. I got the strawberry flavor but wasn’t sure about the milkshake aspect. I think it was a little creamier than a regular strawberry might be. Totoro was an oreo flavor which I got instantly. It had that chocolate cookie flavor that is so easily identifiable. Totoro was my favorite! I will also never regret buying these.
Honorable Mention:
Boba Bear:
Tumblr media
My friend Rob has a goal every night market: a collectible cup. There are so many booths that offer collectible cups you can take home. We usually spend a little time looking around to see which cup he will take home this year. I think we were there a whole 10 minutes before he committed to the $25 cup that came with a free boba drink and a free refill. Not too bad when you consider the price of other boba places and no collectible cup. So while I didn’t drink the boba tea myself, The cup itself was worth a mention. It’s a ceramic bear-shaped cup. What more is there to debate!! Rob had no regrets.
Tumblr media
Overall, a successful night market. We left feeling satisfied with all our choices. I always feel like I missed something but with 120+ vendors, you’re definitely going to miss a few things. Even though they have dates all summer, we always seem to go towards the end. This is our final event of summer as we prepare ourselves for the mindset of fall. Until next year and the new booths we will try!

Silky Tofu with scallions, spicy soy sauce and mango sauce. The tofu was dense but still silky smooth, and with the mango sauce it was surprisingly good.

Korean Ribs with Hoisin Glaze. This is easily the best part of the dinner. It was super soft and moist, and extremely flavorful. According to the server they cook it for over 48 hours. We’ll definitely be ordering this if we’re in the area.

“Yellowfin Dinner” with 5 nigiri and 9 sashimi. It’s tuna, salmon, and yellowfin. As usual, Tyler likes the yellowfin the best. The quality is good, but not out of the ordinary.
