What do you think Henry's favourite dessert is?
This time of year it’s custard pudding! It’s basically eggs, cream and gelatin with a splash of orange flower water. By itself it’s pretty bland, but it’s served with a black current jam, and is very pleasant.
It’s very reminiscent of his favorite dessert in the summer, being berry pie and vanilla icecream, but berries aren’t in season in March and it’s cold outside, so he prefers the custard.
#*me sitting amongst piles of historical cookbooks* well funny you should ask-#In other things he’s fond of: spiced cakes like ginger bread carrot cake cinnamon and cardamom caramel almond or peanut based things-#hot chocolate which in Victorian context is not technically a dessert as it fills a similar role to coffee and various candied fruits#“The art of cookery” a 1774 cookbook by Hannah Glasses had a recipe for “nut bomboons” made with#Which is a recipe Agatha liked to make except she doesn’t follow recipes#So she dumps caramel over peeled almonds or peanuts which is actually incredibly good and everyon in the institute loved it#Anyways icecream is a superior dessert and custard is in the same family#Note the difference between custard pudding and most victorian puddings which he’s not particularly fond of#Tid#tsc#Tlh#henry fairchild#henry branwell

forrest!! SOS!! i have no good food to eat!! ik u can cook so can u tell us some yummy recipes?
oh god i feel like senshi because im so so very late to this ask because ive been in a slump with cooking myself and youve definitely eaten by now. BUT i have a few that i make either when i want comfort food that still checks some boxes of being kind of nutritious or that are just fast
i. spam musubi but its not actually
spam musubi are these awesome hand held things. sometimes they have egg sometimes they dont but i will eat a whole can worth in one go. so i do it as a bowl instead
i start jasmine rice in our rice cooker and chop the spam into cubes vs slices like it would be for musubi. fry them on medium high until theyre crispy. then ill julienne an onion and add it to the spam. once the onion is starting to soften ill add the sauce. the recipe i saw was 2tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp mirin with like a spoon full of sugar (honestly it was probably just under a tbsp) but ive been cheating recently and using a japanese bbq sauce i found at our local asian grocery store. once everything is coated i cook it a few mins so the sauce thickens up. by then the rice should be done and then you just take a scoop of each and i add seaweed on top
i know its not proper but since will doesnt like the sweet savory combo and im the only one eating it this way is easier for me to handle. i can store the rice and spam separately so nothing gets mushy and even refry the spam when i want to heat it back up
ii. black bean, pepper and cheese quesadilla
this is actually how i got will to try beans. i just take a can of black beans and dump the whole thing into a pot and cook on medium until i can smash them. ill also fry peppers and onions on medium until they have a little char. spices are honestly up to you and how spicy you want it. i usually put salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder and garlic in with the beans. once the beans are mostly smashed and the peppers cooked ill throw them together and smash them more just so everything is easier to spread onto a tortilla. that plus you can add your cheese. ive shredded my own and used grocery store mixes so its up to you!
iii. spicy garlic tofu
almost no notes on this. i use less maple syrup than the recipe calls for so 1tbsp of everything in the sauce. and instead of gochujang i use a chinese chili paste, imo it ends up less ketchup flavored but if you like ketchup then just use gochujang
iv. https://thecookiewriter.com/roasted-mushroom-pot-pie/
i dont make this as often but this is a recipe i use as a base and then cheat. i swap in frozen veggies and it speeds everything up
v. hotpot
i love making hotpot at home. its super easy skill wise it just takes some time. you can buy premixed hot pot bases from the grocery store if you have an asian grocery store near you and you just dunk stuff in the soup until its cooked. you just need to watch out for the spice level of the broth
will and i will usually get thinly sliced beef, rice cakes, udon noodles, fish cakes, bok choy and mushrooms. all you do is bring the broth to a boil and cook your ingredients. sometimes i dunk with chopsticks other times i cook with a small strainer lol

I think Trahearne's pantry is 85% canned snow truffle soup specifically because of the stat boosts to condition damage and vitality. You open his pantry and it's all identical cans of mushroom soup, plus a tin of saltine crackers. The remaining 10% of the food is meal kits that Caithe puts together/buys and gives to Trahearne that are made of shelf-stable goods. Like. Cake mix+canned peaches+a baggie of spices+a piece of paper with a recipe for how to make dump cake. Trahearne takes the pie filling and eats it right out of the can with a spoon and leaves everything else. Caithe can never know. He takes multivitamins and thinks that makes it okay.
#guild wars 2#trahearne#food headcanons#gw2#this is all because of a scene for an au fic that's going on for far too long#i love trahearne so much but in my head he's 100% a bachelor chow from futurama guy#sorry honey but them's the breaks

Put too much salt in
I was prepping carrot cake (in this case, spices, baking soda, and salt) and put in twice as much salt as called for. This is a 8x8x2 recipe, called for 1/2 t kosher salt, and I dumped 1 t in.
Cake will probably be made tomorrow.

Iris, Chapter 3
Next segment in my Mpreg Tommy fic! featuring Buck's depression baking!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buck looked up from the mixing bowl as the sound of loud knocking reverberated against the door to his loft.
“I know you’re in there Buck!” he heard the muffled sound of a familiar voice call out to him from the other side. Eddie.
“It’s unlocked!” Buck called back to him as he started to pour the contents of the bowl into the empty bread pan. Pumpkin spice and walnut bread. This is the third time he had made it, the previous two times hadn’t been exactly right. The first was too dry, the second had an overpowered walnut taste so bad he could barely taste the pumpkin. But third times the charm, right?
Behind him, Buck heard as Eddie opened the door and walked inside. He started taking off the jacket he was wearing and hung it up on the coat rack Buck had right alongside the door.
“Really?” Eddie asked as he saw what Buck was doing. “Another cake?”
“Well, technically this is called pumpkin spice and walnut bread,” Buck said as he pointed at the recipe printed out and held to the fridge by a magnet. “But it can be sweet enough to be considered cake, so I guess you have a point.”
Eddie sighed at Buck’s explanation. “How many cakes exactly is this one?” he asked.
Buck hummed, thinking it over. “This is the third one of this type I’ve made. How many bread loaves and cakes in total? I have no idea,” As he opened the pre-heated oven to set the loaf tin inside, Buck pointed at a tupperware container to the right. “If you want a cookie, help yourself. Made them with Jee on Saturday. There’s a mic of chocolate chip and snickerdoodle.”
Eddie let out a long sigh as he walked around the kitchen island and set his hands on Buck’s shoulders, giving them a small shake.
“Okay man,” he started. “I think you’ve done more baking in the last two weeks than most people do in two years. How about we go out today, do something else to distract you for the afternoon?”
“Are you saying that I have a baking problem?” Buck asked, growing slightly defensive.
Despite what everyone seemed to be saying, Buck did not have a problem. Baking a slew of cakes, pastries, bread loaves, you name it was a completely normal thing some people do when they get unexpectedly dumped by someone they thought would be the love of their life.
Eddie didn’t seem to agree.
“Yes,” he said as he looked point blank into Buck’s eyes. “Just ask the guys on B or C shift, everything you’ve been leaving at the station even has them concerned. And half of them didn’t even know you were in a relationship.”
Buck floundered slightly, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. “Fine,” he huffed. “I guess you might have a small point.”
“Good,” Eddie said as he gave Buck’s shoulders a small pat before he removed them. “Then let's go, The guys are playing basketball, but there's no way I’m bringing you back there. I figured we could go to the trivia night at that bar down the street. You liked those right?”
Yeah, Buck liked those. He liked doing those with Tommy. They went at least once a week. Since then however, Buck hadn’t gone to any trivia nights.
Before Buck was able to say anything however, Eddie continued. “Tommy isn’t going to be there,” Eddie said. “His crew is on shift, don’t give me that look, I was talking to Cory who works over at Harbor yesterday, he’s on the same crew Tommy is. And the trivia topic is sci-fi movies, you went through a huge binge on sci-fi movies last summer.”
Buck hummed in thought. He supposed it wouldn’t hurt to get out of his loft for the evening. He had been spending a little too much time here lately. Between work and home and the grocery store to pick up more baking supplies, Buck couldn’t name any other locations he had been to in the last week.
“Wait, I just put the bread in the oven,” Buck said. “I can’t just- I can’t just leave it. It will burn, and could start a fire. I’m the only firefighter that lives in this building, I can not be the one that starts a fire here!”
Eddie let out a breath.”How long does it need to be in the oven?” he asked.
Buck looked over at the timer. “Another half hour?”
Eddie shook his head. “Fine then, get changed while we wait,” Eddie said as he pushed Buck in the direction of his stairs and bedroom. “Trivia starts in forty five minutes and it’s a ten minute walk away. We’ll have to leave as soon as you pull the cake out of the oven.”
“Bread,” Buck corrected as he walked up the steps.
“Whatever,” Eddie waved him off.
About half an hour later, Buck walked down the stairs, changed out of his sweats and hoodie into a pair of jeans and a clean button down. The kitchen timer went off as soon as he took his last step down.
“Go on,” Eddie waved Buck over to the oven as he pulled his shoes back on. “Get it out and turn the oven off so we can go.”
“I’m moving, I’m moving,” Buck said, running over. “Relax.” Buck pulled the pan out of the oven and set it on the cooling rack, then turned the knob to turn the oven off. He then turned around, and spotted a loaf of bagged sourdough bread on the island counter.
“Wait, before we go, do you want any sourdough?” Buck asked.
When Eddie gave him a confused look as he pulled his arms through the sleeves of his jacket, Buck held up the loaf of bread. “I have too many, and Maddie and Chimney declined it, I don’t want it to go bad. We can just drop it off in your truck on the way out. The suns already gone down, it won’t go bad.”
Eddie shook his head, forced Buck to drop the bread, and dragged him by the hand out of the apartment. “We’re late, forget the bread. I don’t like sourdough anyway.”
my caramel sauce (actually butterscotch but w/e) is done and it was really easy. even though i mixed and matched recipes. i used the amounts from this one
but it said it was adapted from another recipe, this one
which had a totally different cooking method but also looked harder to burn, so i kinda combined them by melting the butter->adding the other stuff->cooking over medium-low for 5 minutes while stirring
and it came out perfect actually. and my coconut milk ice cream is currently churning, and it usually comes out well. i actually used the store brand milk, which is way fattier and always separated, so i had to microwave it to get it smooth. but i put it in the fridge while making my sauce. so it should freeze better.
[it doesn't want to turn into a fancy box so here's a hyperlink to the coconut milk recipe]
the recipe has a little too much sugar imo so i use a half cup. and i'm gonna put all of that on this lazy-ass canvas
but i'm gonna put a layer of butterscotch sauce on top of the apples. also i haven't decided if i'm gonna use yellow or spice cake mix. i have both. spice will enhance the flavors but is the sauce enough of a flavor boost on its own and therefore would make it a little too busy? hmmmmmm. i'll decide the moment i make it. which is probably tonight so i can have cake for breakfast on my birthday tomorrow. hooray
You're post about Sam, Dean, Lucifer and Chuck baking has me *feral*, especially the oarr about Lucifer making Sam's heart as a cake. Do you have any thoughts about Sam and Lucifer baking together?
I don't think either of them are great at it, realistically. I think a lot of what they make together comes out a little burnt or a little too squishy or doesn't taste exactly right. After the first few times, Sam makes sure to set up an alarm for exactly when they want to take things out of the oven, because otherwise they will get distracted (by each other) and forget until they smell smoke. Lucifer particularly falls into the ever so enticing trap of 'well, sure, the recipes says this, but I Know Better' and will overdo certain ingredients to try to make it taste better. (This is how Lucifer learns that a few drops of vanilla extract are precious and delicious, but if he dumps a whole cup in there, it's going to get an awful aftertaste.) (Lucifer will also, if left unattended, eat spices raw. He's taste-testing.)
But I also think this is something that's very relaxing for them. Baking's a very physical hobby, you know? There's a lot to ground you in your body as you're doing it, all your senses activated. Tasting and smelling, sure, but there's also a lot of movement. I think this would be really good for them. Sam's got all of his issues around his own body that lead to a disconnect more often than not and Lucifer's body literally isn't his. So, it's comforting to have these things to take care of together, one of them has a pot on the stove full of blueberries they're mashing for some jam, the other is working their hands into the dough in a bowl to make sure it's all mixed up properly so they can roll it. They work in sync easily, and if they're right there beside each other in the kitchen, they can just reach out and know the other is there (after washing their hands, usually, when they remember.)
The dough looks a little lumpy. Sam's eyes catch on a little butter poking out that Lucifer had forgotten to let soften before adding it. Flour is spread in a mess all over the countertop, and Lucifer's hands, and his shirt, and even Sam's socks from where he's standing a few feet away.
Lucifer looks relaxed and focused, working the dough until it'll be ready to rise. The oven radiates warmth as Sam crosses it to reach Lucifer. He stands at Lucifer's back, head nestled over his shoulder, and Lucifer adjusts slightly so Sam can hug him as he kneads.
(like that, you know?)
hii i made beignets heres a picture
would you like the recipe?
originally from binging with babish, check out his yt video and recipe here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnuHzHHwqAw https://www.bingingwithbabish.com/recipes/beignetsfromchef
but i have edited the recipe due to nondairy and nongivingafuck constraints, so here is my version i think this made about? 2 dozen for me? will depend on the size you go for. also this is very basic, add vanilla, extra spices, toppings, etc. at your own discretion and risk INGREDIENTS -4 cups soymilk (or whatever you wanna use <3) -2 packets (more precisely, 4tsp) active dry yeast -2 1/2 tbsp sugar -22oz (bit under 5 cups?) bread flour -1/2 tsp baking soda -1/2 tsp kosher salt -at least 2 quarts vegetable oil (you can filter/save this for another day!) -just a lot of extra flour. at least a cup. you will want that. -absolute metric fuck ton of powdered sugar. RECIPE!! -heat soymilk to approx 110°F for ideal yeastage; add yeast and sugar, stir to combine, allow to ~fester~ for 10 mins -meantime, dump into a stand mixer bowl your bread flour, baking soda, and kosher salt, mix or whisk to combine -add yeaststuff to dry ingredients, use dough hook attachment to mix for 3-4 mins. it will be VERY VERY STICKY, this is NORMAL, just ensure it's homogeneous. -cover with a hot damp cloth, set aside at room temperature (you can carefully use your oven if your room temperature is currently "too fucking cold") for an hour until doubled in size. trust me, it will go crazy. at this point the dough is ready, you may roll out and fry immediately if you so desire. otherwise, transfer to a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and fridge for up to 2 days until you're ready. once you are: -pour vegetable oil into a large pot (you want a few inches of room both above and below oil surface!), preheat it to 370°F ideally checking with a digital thermometer (you can do this once dough is ready or have someone else do it while you work, if you're worried abt starting fires) -LIBERALLY flour your (very clean!!) counter and hands, plop out the dough, and just Cake That Thing in flour. no- no, you need more flour. correct. -roll dough out to ~1/4 inch thickness, maintaining as rectangular a shape as you can. using a pizza cutter, trim into rectangle (save the scraps and re-roll/cut them too!), and then cut a bunch of smaller rectangles out of it. -when your dough and oil are ready, gently (and without crowding) plop 3-5 pieces of dough in the pot. they will sink, bubble a lot, then rise to the surface and puff up as they cook. if it don't bubble, the oil's not hot enough. -give them like a minute on both sides, pull each beignet out once deeply golden brown and let it drain on a rack or parchment paper sheet. -dust H E A V I L Y with powdered sugar and get the next batch going; serve them HOT AND FRESH! (they're best like that, but they keep for as long as you'll take to eat em, guaranteed /silly) now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to go eat enough of these to get sick.
#recipe#beignets#i fucking love frying bread and covering it in sugar#this should? be cheaper than buying them especially since i usually have baking stuff on hand#also im not joking about getting sick i am#on like my fifth one tonight#sorry this is probably like Clinically american in soo many places. i marked that im using fahrenheit so hopefully its ok#if you have questions i can answer them probably. not a professional but i know a lot and have a google.
Thess vs Ancestral Views on Cabbage
Welp, it was all the usual mess, and the usual tricks from the rest of the team. Everything from leaving the long ones for "later" (read, until I did them during overtime, assuming I got to those) to taking a whole bunch of dictation, dawdling through the short simple ones, and dumping the slightly longer and more complicated ones back into the queue towards the end of the day. So by time everyone was done working (except me, obviously), there were 405 bits of typing in the queue. I'd done just over 100. (New Girl had done 48, over a longer period of time, by the way.) There were still over 80 from yesterday still in the queue. A good dozen of these were longer ones. Two of those topped out at fifteen minutes.
I cleared all of the really short ones and most of the mid-length ones. But when it hit 10:30pm and I'd been at the overtime for three hours, I decided enough was enough. I'd cleared 75 bits of dictation out of the 80+. Scruffman said "anything I can do to help". Anyone else can bite me.
Oh, and if my maths seems off, there was a bit of an incident with dinner. See, yesterday I took the ground pork out of the freezer with a view to making cabbage rolls, and so it had to be eaten today. So despite the pain, aggravation, stress, etc, I tried to make cabbage rolls. And found out the following:
I don't have a large enough pot to blanch a cabbage
I don't have the manual dexterity to manage pulling cabbage leaves without tearing them in my current state (that or I fucked up coring it or didn't leave it in long enough, whichever)
I cannot cut the vein out of a cabbage leaf without fucking it up in my current state
I do not have a large enough pot to actually cook cabbage rolls to the first recipe I found online (there may be other methods; I have no idea)
So there I was, an hour after I'd started, with a whole lot of ruined cabbage leaves, a kilo of ground pork that I absolutely had to at least cook today, a litre of chicken stock I had no idea what to do with, the feeling that my Polish ancestors are very disappointed in me, a shitload of overtime waiting for me to get around to it, and the knowledge that this was going to mean that said overtime wasn't going to end until very late. Also hungry.
And then I thought ... "Fuck this. Yeah, I have a good chunk of Polish in my ancestry ... but I've got a fair bit more Irish and can therefore get a lot of mileage out of some pork and cabbage".
Chopped the cabbage leaves, dumped basically everything into my big skillet, and simmered that for awhile also boiling potatoes. After a few minutes, drained most of the juice out of the pork/cabbage mixture, back on the heat while the potatoes were finishing. I could have stood to do the potatoes longer, honestly, but it was getting late. So I ended up with this pork / onion / cabbage hash, which I had over potatoes. Turned out okay, though I'm going to want to spice the leftovers up more, and make more potatoes.
If all else fails, throw it in a skillet and pray.
So now I'm going to heat up the tuna broccoli pasta from yesterday (mostly so I have a decent-sized container to store my pork cabbage hash in, since my parentals still have my other big one from when I gave David some of my cheesecake - I should ask for that back), then have a bath and hope I feel better soon. Like, before tomorrow might be nice. It's more of the same tomorrow, except more potential for leftovers. ...I remember I did mean to have the leftover tuna broccoli pasta for lunch, but I never got a long enough break for that so I stuck with my emergency calorie go-to of peanuts and fruit (a pear).
If I'm still hungry after tuna broccoli pasta leftovers, I'm making myself a mug cake. Damnit, I deserve a mug cake.
How to make cannabis brownies
Numerous cannabis eatable assortments and flavors might exist, however weed fans will constantly lean toward brownies. This is on the grounds that a weed brownie is an inconceivably flexible cannabis consumable that has persevered for a really long time. Every individual who has tasted cannabis brownies can concur that chocolate and cannabutter were made for one another.
Luckily, making weed brownies is simple. These brownies, otherwise called space cakes, wizardry chomps, or pot brownies, are one of the most low-support weed edibles. You don't require extravagant hardware, fixings, or much cash to make a gooey and sweet group at home. There are different sort of edibles you can attempt next to brownies like delta 8 chewy candies and cbd chewy candies.
A weed brownie has a sweet, chocolatey taste and can get you high for around six to eight hours. Additionally, it processes pretty quick more often than not, and individuals much of the time begin seeing its belongings in as little as 30 minutes. Accordingly, pot brownies stay the most well known weed edibles, presently sold in numerous web-based shops and actual stores, including dispensaries.
Be that as it may, purchasing a pre-made weed brownie could appear to be somewhat inefficient when you can prepare some Do-It-Yourself sorcery chomps at home. Knowing how to make weed brownies doesn't require exceptional master abilities. All you want is time, the essential fixings, some baking gear, and a broiler.
This article will talk about the simplest method you can apply to make pot brownies in the solace of your home. You will gain proficiency with a total pot brownie recipe, including the fixings, equipment instruments, and the moves toward take.
However, priorities straight. A decent weed brownies recipe ought to begin with some cannabutter oil so we should begin with that.
How much weed?
Not exclusively will they taste better, yet when you Do-It-Yourself, you're likewise completely responsible for how much bud really winds up in the brownies. This recipe requires an entire 1/8 ounce of cannabis, yet the cycle actually works on the off chance that you choose to utilize less.
BTW, assuming that you go by this flavor changes graph, 1/8 ounce of parsley (the nearest cannabis correlation we could find), is equivalent to around 3 tablespoons. Thus, approximately 3 tablespoons of weed is about what you really want. The pleasure is all mines.
We made the full clump of the cannabutter recipe underneath, involved our favored sum in the brownies, and put away the overabundance in the refrigerator in a plainly stamped compartment (accentuation on "obviously checked").
Must-know tips
Before you dump the items in your processor into a container of Duncan Hines Twofold Fudge, hold tight a sec. To attract out cannabis' maximum capacity edibles, it should be decarboxylated.
Decarbed-what? Decarboxylation is essentially an extravagant approach to saying that the spice should be warmed to initiate it to its psychoactive structure completely. Think: A joint will not get anybody high except if it's gotten on fire going.
This recipe makes 16 powerful brownies. While they're scrumptious, we don't suggest you eat more than each in turn. On the off chance that you're new to this, eat a little one. What's more, show restraint. It could require as long as an hour and a half for the brownie to process and the high to hit you.
Unique brownies recipe
Makes 16 servings
Fixings
1/8 ounce finely ground cannabis trim
3/4 cup (1 1/2 stick) unsalted spread
4 ounces unsweetened, quality chocolate
1 3/4 cups coconut sugar
1/2 teaspoon legitimate salt
2 teaspoons vanilla concentrate
3 huge eggs
1 3/4 cups regular flour
2/3 cup hacked pecans (discretionary)
3 mint leaves, minced (discretionary)
Master tip: In the event that you're not enthusiastic about the exemplary flavor and fragrance of weed, add finely minced mint passes on to the hitter; it will counterbalance the cannabis flavor.
Bearings
Preheat stove to 240°F (115°C). Spread cannabis equally on a baking sheet. Prepare 50 minutes (if utilizing less cannabis, really take a look at stove following 35 to 40 minutes). Eliminate from stove and put away.
In a medium pan, dissolve margarine over low intensity. Add decarboxylated (broiler prepared) cannabis and lower intensity to a stew. Cook for 45 minutes, then, at that point, eliminate from heat.
Strain cannabutter through a fine-network sifter or cheesecloth into a little glass estimating cup or bowl. Dispose of stressed cannabis solids or save for cannabis tea.
Preheat broiler to 350°F (177°C) and oil a 9-by-13 inch glass baking skillet with cooking shower.
Place chocolate in an enormous glass blending bowl and soften in the microwave or over a pan of bubbling water.
Add cannabutter to dissolved chocolate and blend until consolidated, then blend in coconut sugar, salt, and vanilla.
Add eggs each in turn, blending until completely consolidated.
Blend in flour and pecan or potentially mint, if utilizing.
Empty hitter into arranged baking skillet and heat for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool somewhat, then cut into 16 pieces. Store extras — obviously checked in the event that there are others utilizing your kitchen — in the cooler for as long as seven days, or in the cooler for a considerable length of time.
Main concern
Weed brownies are amusing to make, delectable at the time and pleasant for quite a long time later. What's not to cherish?
Simply recollect, individuals: A tiny amount makes a huge difference. Particularly in the event that you're a novice to the culinary cannabis scene, make certain to find a steady speed. Eat each square in turn and give it a couple of hours to kick in before you return for seconds.
