Cookieballism
Beelzebub x reader
W.C. 1.7k
~ You heard the House of Lamination has received a very special delivery from a certain little angel, but someone else finds it first.
Beel is starving… Like usual.
Fangol practice was tougher than normal for the Demon because today, he only had enough time to eat his breakfast, half of Belphie's, lunch number one, lunch number two, a tray of tea cakes Barbatos left out in the student council room, a few of his emergency snacks, and a protein shake today.
His large feet crunch the pavement as the chilly air pickles his chin, "It's soup weather…" he murmurs, his mouth watering as he remembers the tasty cream of Basilisk soup you made for him the other day. Thinking of you, the sixthborn begins to worry about how you are faring in this weather.
Did you remember to wear a jacket?
His worry fades away as an idea sneaks its way to the forefront of his mind. If you are cold, the two of you should warm up with some hot chocolate by the fireplace; after that, maybe you could eat a light snack before dinner.
Maybe a pot of soup
Some Buffo egg fondue…
Mmnnn or some honey-glazed basilisk…
His drool splatters on the stone steps as he climbs, but when he gets to the front door, he notices a small, delightful scent coming from a carefully wrapped platter. Crouching down, his heart skips a beat when he sees that the platter is holding some freshly baked cookies.
Anyone else would wonder about the origins of the mysterious cookies, especially after all the wacky rabbit holes of subplots that enchanted food has sent these demons on in the last few years, but not Beel.
He is far too hungry to think of trivial things, such as the origins of mysterious treats. He picks up the platter and carries it inside, dumping his gym bag on the floor next to the coat rack. Lucifer may scold him later, but he doesn't really care about that right now.
Setting the tray on the platter, he peels off the clear plastic wrap, revealing the carefully frosted gingerbread cookies, each one looking familiarly distinct, but Beel can only focus on the smell; the treats have a similar scent to Barbatos' recipe but are slightly different.
The nostalgic scent brings a smile to the Demon's face as he recalls the Life-sized gingerbread village the butler had baked for the Palace's Christmas party last year. The baked goods looked almost too good to eat, so many of the guests left it alone, thinking it was decoration, which meant Beel got to go home with all the leftovers.
Just the sweet memory alone is enough to have him reaching for the first cookie; he barely has time to notice the piped-on leather jacket, sunglasses, and white frosted head as he takes a gluttonous bite.
It's deliciously sweet with just enough spice that has him reaching for another.
And another
And another
He is having a wonderful time with the treats until he picks up one that looks a bit more detailed than the others; with his hunger satiated just a bit, he really takes in the details of this particular cookie: its bright eyes, warm smile, perfectly piped RAD uniform.
"It's funny," he muses aloud, wiping some crumbs from the corner of his mouth. "This cookie almost looks like…"
Oh No….
~
The little brass bell on the Tea Shop's door chimes as you exit. After waking up with a little case of the seasonal sniffles, you decided to go and get yourself a new, sweet-smelling blend of tea to help you ward off the impending cold before it comes.
Your shopping bag sways as you start the chilly walk home to the House of Lamination. You only make it down the block when a gentle voice calls out to you.
"Oh Mc, what a coincidence to run into you out here." you turn and see Simeon and Luke approaching you, their smiles so warm that you momentarily forget about the biting chill in the air.
"We just came from the House of Lamination in search of you." the dark-haired angel chuckles, nudging Luke forward teasingly. "Luke has prepared something special for you and he just could not wait until tomorrow."
The little angel stumbles forward just a step as his cherub-like face flushes the color of holly berries. "I-it's not that I couldn't wait; it's just that the treats taste best when they are fresh."
"So you baked me something?" you ask, a merry smile blossoming on your face. "Thank you, Luke, you just made my day."
"R-really?" The little angel says, looking up at you with wide blue eyes.
"Of course," you nod, "I always love when you bake for me Luke."
"Then you should hurry," he says. "The cookies will taste best when they are fresh. I knocked on your door, but no one was home, so I left the plate instead; I wouldn't want anyone else to eat them all before you get the chance."
His words cause you to glance over at the large clock in the square. "Now that you mention it, it looks like Beel should just be getting out of Fangol practice just about now."
"What?" Luke's eyes go wide, and he wordlessly scampers off, leaving you and Simeon behind.
"That was strange," you chuckle, watching as he runs around the corner and out of sight. "Where do you think he ran off to all of a sudden?"
Simeon chuckles, raising his hand to his mouth. "Something tells me that he went home to bake you some more cookies." His tone is warm, but words alone are not enough to keep you from shivering as a gust of wind passes through you. Seeing this small reaction of discomfort, he frowns. "it's chilly out; you should get home before you get sick."
"I suppose you're right," you say, rubbing your hand up and down your rapidly cooling arms. "But I'll see you tomorrow."
"Indeed, would you like for me to walk you home?" He offers kindly, with his easy, selfless charm.
"Maybe next time," you say, eyeing his empty shopping bag knowingly; normally, you would love to take him up on his offer, but he had only just made it to the marketplace. It wouldn't be fair for him to have to walk all the way to the House of Lamination. "You should go and finish your errands, and I'll message you when I get home."
A brief flash of disappointment clouds his cerulean eyes, but he smiles softly before sending you on your way.
~
Although you had a feeling this would be the case, your heart still sinks when you see that Luke's plate of cookies is not on the porch where he said it was. You poke around for a second just to make sure it really isn't there before you head inside.
Your suspicions are confirmed when you notice Beel's discarded gym bag on the entryway floor, something the Avatar of Gluttony has a tendency to do when his sin gets the better of him, and he makes a B-line to the kitchen.
"Beel?" You call, walking through the dark halls. "Are you here?"
It's faint, but you hear a small sound coming from the kitchen; sure enough, Beel sits hunched over the counter. His head in his hands as he tries to shield his face from your gaze. The plate of cookies sits on the tabletop, with one gingerbread cookie remaining.
The fact that he saved even one is a pleasant surprise, but before you can comment on it, you see the look of distress in his eyes.
"I couldn't do it." He mumbles, pushing the plate even further away from him.
"What's wrong?" you ask worriedly, a deep line of concern creases your brow. "Do the cookies not taste good?" He shakes his head, and you get a really good look at the final cookie on the plate. Although it is just frosting and dough, you can tell that Luke had decorated the cookie to look just like you.
"Is this me?" You ask, and he nods.
"I ate all of them, but when I got to yours, I couldn't do it; it just looks so cute," he mumbles, I picked it up, and I just felt wrong…like I wasn't supposed to eat that one."
You are touched, it's rare that Beel passes up on food, and knowing that he did it for you warms your heart. "So let me get this straight, you ate every other cookie, you ate yourself, all of your brothers, and probably our friends, but you didn't eat me?"
He shakes his head, "it just felt wrong to do so. I've hurt you once before and I never want to do it again, I don't even want to touch a cookie that looks like you."
"Thank you for saving this for me," you gently take your freshly baked cookie avatar and take a bite. It's delicious; you can tell that Luke put a lot of work into baking this.
"It's good," you say between bites. "But I know what you meant; it's weird eating myself; it feels like a cannibal."
He goes quiet for a moment as his orange brows knit together. "It's cookieballism," he says proudly; puns are rare with the sixthborn, but this one has you nearly choking on your cookie. You spit it into a napkin as he gently rubs your back with a worried expression. "Mc, are you alright? Are you choking?"
You cough as he hands you a glass of water. "I'm fine, I just wasn't expecting that."
His eyes linger on your now ruined treat, "But you didn't get to eat the cookie because of me; I'm sorry, Mc."
"It's alright, Beel," you smile, remembering something from earlier. "I think Luke will be bringing by some more cookies later on; if he does, then we can share them with everyone this time around."
"That would be nice," he smiles, a faint blush appearing on his cheeks, "I hope these ones are decorated too. But while we wait, how about I make some hot chocolate for us."

forrest!! SOS!! i have no good food to eat!! ik u can cook so can u tell us some yummy recipes?
oh god i feel like senshi because im so so very late to this ask because ive been in a slump with cooking myself and youve definitely eaten by now. BUT i have a few that i make either when i want comfort food that still checks some boxes of being kind of nutritious or that are just fast
i. spam musubi but its not actually
spam musubi are these awesome hand held things. sometimes they have egg sometimes they dont but i will eat a whole can worth in one go. so i do it as a bowl instead
i start jasmine rice in our rice cooker and chop the spam into cubes vs slices like it would be for musubi. fry them on medium high until theyre crispy. then ill julienne an onion and add it to the spam. once the onion is starting to soften ill add the sauce. the recipe i saw was 2tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp mirin with like a spoon full of sugar (honestly it was probably just under a tbsp) but ive been cheating recently and using a japanese bbq sauce i found at our local asian grocery store. once everything is coated i cook it a few mins so the sauce thickens up. by then the rice should be done and then you just take a scoop of each and i add seaweed on top
i know its not proper but since will doesnt like the sweet savory combo and im the only one eating it this way is easier for me to handle. i can store the rice and spam separately so nothing gets mushy and even refry the spam when i want to heat it back up
ii. black bean, pepper and cheese quesadilla
this is actually how i got will to try beans. i just take a can of black beans and dump the whole thing into a pot and cook on medium until i can smash them. ill also fry peppers and onions on medium until they have a little char. spices are honestly up to you and how spicy you want it. i usually put salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder and garlic in with the beans. once the beans are mostly smashed and the peppers cooked ill throw them together and smash them more just so everything is easier to spread onto a tortilla. that plus you can add your cheese. ive shredded my own and used grocery store mixes so its up to you!
iii. spicy garlic tofu
almost no notes on this. i use less maple syrup than the recipe calls for so 1tbsp of everything in the sauce. and instead of gochujang i use a chinese chili paste, imo it ends up less ketchup flavored but if you like ketchup then just use gochujang
iv. https://thecookiewriter.com/roasted-mushroom-pot-pie/
i dont make this as often but this is a recipe i use as a base and then cheat. i swap in frozen veggies and it speeds everything up
v. hotpot
i love making hotpot at home. its super easy skill wise it just takes some time. you can buy premixed hot pot bases from the grocery store if you have an asian grocery store near you and you just dunk stuff in the soup until its cooked. you just need to watch out for the spice level of the broth
will and i will usually get thinly sliced beef, rice cakes, udon noodles, fish cakes, bok choy and mushrooms. all you do is bring the broth to a boil and cook your ingredients. sometimes i dunk with chopsticks other times i cook with a small strainer lol

Iris, Chapter 3
Next segment in my Mpreg Tommy fic! featuring Buck's depression baking!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buck looked up from the mixing bowl as the sound of loud knocking reverberated against the door to his loft.
“I know you’re in there Buck!” he heard the muffled sound of a familiar voice call out to him from the other side. Eddie.
“It’s unlocked!” Buck called back to him as he started to pour the contents of the bowl into the empty bread pan. Pumpkin spice and walnut bread. This is the third time he had made it, the previous two times hadn’t been exactly right. The first was too dry, the second had an overpowered walnut taste so bad he could barely taste the pumpkin. But third times the charm, right?
Behind him, Buck heard as Eddie opened the door and walked inside. He started taking off the jacket he was wearing and hung it up on the coat rack Buck had right alongside the door.
“Really?” Eddie asked as he saw what Buck was doing. “Another cake?”
“Well, technically this is called pumpkin spice and walnut bread,” Buck said as he pointed at the recipe printed out and held to the fridge by a magnet. “But it can be sweet enough to be considered cake, so I guess you have a point.”
Eddie sighed at Buck’s explanation. “How many cakes exactly is this one?” he asked.
Buck hummed, thinking it over. “This is the third one of this type I’ve made. How many bread loaves and cakes in total? I have no idea,” As he opened the pre-heated oven to set the loaf tin inside, Buck pointed at a tupperware container to the right. “If you want a cookie, help yourself. Made them with Jee on Saturday. There’s a mic of chocolate chip and snickerdoodle.”
Eddie let out a long sigh as he walked around the kitchen island and set his hands on Buck’s shoulders, giving them a small shake.
“Okay man,” he started. “I think you’ve done more baking in the last two weeks than most people do in two years. How about we go out today, do something else to distract you for the afternoon?”
“Are you saying that I have a baking problem?” Buck asked, growing slightly defensive.
Despite what everyone seemed to be saying, Buck did not have a problem. Baking a slew of cakes, pastries, bread loaves, you name it was a completely normal thing some people do when they get unexpectedly dumped by someone they thought would be the love of their life.
Eddie didn’t seem to agree.
“Yes,” he said as he looked point blank into Buck’s eyes. “Just ask the guys on B or C shift, everything you’ve been leaving at the station even has them concerned. And half of them didn’t even know you were in a relationship.”
Buck floundered slightly, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. “Fine,” he huffed. “I guess you might have a small point.”
“Good,” Eddie said as he gave Buck’s shoulders a small pat before he removed them. “Then let's go, The guys are playing basketball, but there's no way I’m bringing you back there. I figured we could go to the trivia night at that bar down the street. You liked those right?”
Yeah, Buck liked those. He liked doing those with Tommy. They went at least once a week. Since then however, Buck hadn’t gone to any trivia nights.
Before Buck was able to say anything however, Eddie continued. “Tommy isn’t going to be there,” Eddie said. “His crew is on shift, don’t give me that look, I was talking to Cory who works over at Harbor yesterday, he’s on the same crew Tommy is. And the trivia topic is sci-fi movies, you went through a huge binge on sci-fi movies last summer.”
Buck hummed in thought. He supposed it wouldn’t hurt to get out of his loft for the evening. He had been spending a little too much time here lately. Between work and home and the grocery store to pick up more baking supplies, Buck couldn’t name any other locations he had been to in the last week.
“Wait, I just put the bread in the oven,” Buck said. “I can’t just- I can’t just leave it. It will burn, and could start a fire. I’m the only firefighter that lives in this building, I can not be the one that starts a fire here!”
Eddie let out a breath.”How long does it need to be in the oven?” he asked.
Buck looked over at the timer. “Another half hour?”
Eddie shook his head. “Fine then, get changed while we wait,” Eddie said as he pushed Buck in the direction of his stairs and bedroom. “Trivia starts in forty five minutes and it’s a ten minute walk away. We’ll have to leave as soon as you pull the cake out of the oven.”
“Bread,” Buck corrected as he walked up the steps.
“Whatever,” Eddie waved him off.
About half an hour later, Buck walked down the stairs, changed out of his sweats and hoodie into a pair of jeans and a clean button down. The kitchen timer went off as soon as he took his last step down.
“Go on,” Eddie waved Buck over to the oven as he pulled his shoes back on. “Get it out and turn the oven off so we can go.”
“I’m moving, I’m moving,” Buck said, running over. “Relax.” Buck pulled the pan out of the oven and set it on the cooling rack, then turned the knob to turn the oven off. He then turned around, and spotted a loaf of bagged sourdough bread on the island counter.
“Wait, before we go, do you want any sourdough?” Buck asked.
When Eddie gave him a confused look as he pulled his arms through the sleeves of his jacket, Buck held up the loaf of bread. “I have too many, and Maddie and Chimney declined it, I don’t want it to go bad. We can just drop it off in your truck on the way out. The suns already gone down, it won’t go bad.”
Eddie shook his head, forced Buck to drop the bread, and dragged him by the hand out of the apartment. “We’re late, forget the bread. I don’t like sourdough anyway.”
I think Trahearne's pantry is 85% canned snow truffle soup specifically because of the stat boosts to condition damage and vitality. You open his pantry and it's all identical cans of mushroom soup, plus a tin of saltine crackers. The remaining 10% of the food is meal kits that Caithe puts together/buys and gives to Trahearne that are made of shelf-stable goods. Like. Cake mix+canned peaches+a baggie of spices+a piece of paper with a recipe for how to make dump cake. Trahearne takes the pie filling and eats it right out of the can with a spoon and leaves everything else. Caithe can never know. He takes multivitamins and thinks that makes it okay.
#guild wars 2#trahearne#food headcanons#gw2#this is all because of a scene for an au fic that's going on for far too long#i love trahearne so much but in my head he's 100% a bachelor chow from futurama guy#sorry honey but them's the breaks
my caramel sauce (actually butterscotch but w/e) is done and it was really easy. even though i mixed and matched recipes. i used the amounts from this one
but it said it was adapted from another recipe, this one
which had a totally different cooking method but also looked harder to burn, so i kinda combined them by melting the butter->adding the other stuff->cooking over medium-low for 5 minutes while stirring
and it came out perfect actually. and my coconut milk ice cream is currently churning, and it usually comes out well. i actually used the store brand milk, which is way fattier and always separated, so i had to microwave it to get it smooth. but i put it in the fridge while making my sauce. so it should freeze better.
[it doesn't want to turn into a fancy box so here's a hyperlink to the coconut milk recipe]
the recipe has a little too much sugar imo so i use a half cup. and i'm gonna put all of that on this lazy-ass canvas
but i'm gonna put a layer of butterscotch sauce on top of the apples. also i haven't decided if i'm gonna use yellow or spice cake mix. i have both. spice will enhance the flavors but is the sauce enough of a flavor boost on its own and therefore would make it a little too busy? hmmmmmm. i'll decide the moment i make it. which is probably tonight so i can have cake for breakfast on my birthday tomorrow. hooray
You're post about Sam, Dean, Lucifer and Chuck baking has me *feral*, especially the oarr about Lucifer making Sam's heart as a cake. Do you have any thoughts about Sam and Lucifer baking together?
I don't think either of them are great at it, realistically. I think a lot of what they make together comes out a little burnt or a little too squishy or doesn't taste exactly right. After the first few times, Sam makes sure to set up an alarm for exactly when they want to take things out of the oven, because otherwise they will get distracted (by each other) and forget until they smell smoke. Lucifer particularly falls into the ever so enticing trap of 'well, sure, the recipes says this, but I Know Better' and will overdo certain ingredients to try to make it taste better. (This is how Lucifer learns that a few drops of vanilla extract are precious and delicious, but if he dumps a whole cup in there, it's going to get an awful aftertaste.) (Lucifer will also, if left unattended, eat spices raw. He's taste-testing.)
But I also think this is something that's very relaxing for them. Baking's a very physical hobby, you know? There's a lot to ground you in your body as you're doing it, all your senses activated. Tasting and smelling, sure, but there's also a lot of movement. I think this would be really good for them. Sam's got all of his issues around his own body that lead to a disconnect more often than not and Lucifer's body literally isn't his. So, it's comforting to have these things to take care of together, one of them has a pot on the stove full of blueberries they're mashing for some jam, the other is working their hands into the dough in a bowl to make sure it's all mixed up properly so they can roll it. They work in sync easily, and if they're right there beside each other in the kitchen, they can just reach out and know the other is there (after washing their hands, usually, when they remember.)
The dough looks a little lumpy. Sam's eyes catch on a little butter poking out that Lucifer had forgotten to let soften before adding it. Flour is spread in a mess all over the countertop, and Lucifer's hands, and his shirt, and even Sam's socks from where he's standing a few feet away.
Lucifer looks relaxed and focused, working the dough until it'll be ready to rise. The oven radiates warmth as Sam crosses it to reach Lucifer. He stands at Lucifer's back, head nestled over his shoulder, and Lucifer adjusts slightly so Sam can hug him as he kneads.
(like that, you know?)
hii i made beignets heres a picture
would you like the recipe?
originally from binging with babish, check out his yt video and recipe here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnuHzHHwqAw https://www.bingingwithbabish.com/recipes/beignetsfromchef
but i have edited the recipe due to nondairy and nongivingafuck constraints, so here is my version i think this made about? 2 dozen for me? will depend on the size you go for. also this is very basic, add vanilla, extra spices, toppings, etc. at your own discretion and risk INGREDIENTS -4 cups soymilk (or whatever you wanna use <3) -2 packets (more precisely, 4tsp) active dry yeast -2 1/2 tbsp sugar -22oz (bit under 5 cups?) bread flour -1/2 tsp baking soda -1/2 tsp kosher salt -at least 2 quarts vegetable oil (you can filter/save this for another day!) -just a lot of extra flour. at least a cup. you will want that. -absolute metric fuck ton of powdered sugar. RECIPE!! -heat soymilk to approx 110°F for ideal yeastage; add yeast and sugar, stir to combine, allow to ~fester~ for 10 mins -meantime, dump into a stand mixer bowl your bread flour, baking soda, and kosher salt, mix or whisk to combine -add yeaststuff to dry ingredients, use dough hook attachment to mix for 3-4 mins. it will be VERY VERY STICKY, this is NORMAL, just ensure it's homogeneous. -cover with a hot damp cloth, set aside at room temperature (you can carefully use your oven if your room temperature is currently "too fucking cold") for an hour until doubled in size. trust me, it will go crazy. at this point the dough is ready, you may roll out and fry immediately if you so desire. otherwise, transfer to a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and fridge for up to 2 days until you're ready. once you are: -pour vegetable oil into a large pot (you want a few inches of room both above and below oil surface!), preheat it to 370°F ideally checking with a digital thermometer (you can do this once dough is ready or have someone else do it while you work, if you're worried abt starting fires) -LIBERALLY flour your (very clean!!) counter and hands, plop out the dough, and just Cake That Thing in flour. no- no, you need more flour. correct. -roll dough out to ~1/4 inch thickness, maintaining as rectangular a shape as you can. using a pizza cutter, trim into rectangle (save the scraps and re-roll/cut them too!), and then cut a bunch of smaller rectangles out of it. -when your dough and oil are ready, gently (and without crowding) plop 3-5 pieces of dough in the pot. they will sink, bubble a lot, then rise to the surface and puff up as they cook. if it don't bubble, the oil's not hot enough. -give them like a minute on both sides, pull each beignet out once deeply golden brown and let it drain on a rack or parchment paper sheet. -dust H E A V I L Y with powdered sugar and get the next batch going; serve them HOT AND FRESH! (they're best like that, but they keep for as long as you'll take to eat em, guaranteed /silly) now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to go eat enough of these to get sick.
#recipe#beignets#i fucking love frying bread and covering it in sugar#this should? be cheaper than buying them especially since i usually have baking stuff on hand#also im not joking about getting sick i am#on like my fifth one tonight#sorry this is probably like Clinically american in soo many places. i marked that im using fahrenheit so hopefully its ok#if you have questions i can answer them probably. not a professional but i know a lot and have a google.
Thess vs Ancestral Views on Cabbage
Welp, it was all the usual mess, and the usual tricks from the rest of the team. Everything from leaving the long ones for "later" (read, until I did them during overtime, assuming I got to those) to taking a whole bunch of dictation, dawdling through the short simple ones, and dumping the slightly longer and more complicated ones back into the queue towards the end of the day. So by time everyone was done working (except me, obviously), there were 405 bits of typing in the queue. I'd done just over 100. (New Girl had done 48, over a longer period of time, by the way.) There were still over 80 from yesterday still in the queue. A good dozen of these were longer ones. Two of those topped out at fifteen minutes.
I cleared all of the really short ones and most of the mid-length ones. But when it hit 10:30pm and I'd been at the overtime for three hours, I decided enough was enough. I'd cleared 75 bits of dictation out of the 80+. Scruffman said "anything I can do to help". Anyone else can bite me.
Oh, and if my maths seems off, there was a bit of an incident with dinner. See, yesterday I took the ground pork out of the freezer with a view to making cabbage rolls, and so it had to be eaten today. So despite the pain, aggravation, stress, etc, I tried to make cabbage rolls. And found out the following:
I don't have a large enough pot to blanch a cabbage
I don't have the manual dexterity to manage pulling cabbage leaves without tearing them in my current state (that or I fucked up coring it or didn't leave it in long enough, whichever)
I cannot cut the vein out of a cabbage leaf without fucking it up in my current state
I do not have a large enough pot to actually cook cabbage rolls to the first recipe I found online (there may be other methods; I have no idea)
So there I was, an hour after I'd started, with a whole lot of ruined cabbage leaves, a kilo of ground pork that I absolutely had to at least cook today, a litre of chicken stock I had no idea what to do with, the feeling that my Polish ancestors are very disappointed in me, a shitload of overtime waiting for me to get around to it, and the knowledge that this was going to mean that said overtime wasn't going to end until very late. Also hungry.
And then I thought ... "Fuck this. Yeah, I have a good chunk of Polish in my ancestry ... but I've got a fair bit more Irish and can therefore get a lot of mileage out of some pork and cabbage".
Chopped the cabbage leaves, dumped basically everything into my big skillet, and simmered that for awhile also boiling potatoes. After a few minutes, drained most of the juice out of the pork/cabbage mixture, back on the heat while the potatoes were finishing. I could have stood to do the potatoes longer, honestly, but it was getting late. So I ended up with this pork / onion / cabbage hash, which I had over potatoes. Turned out okay, though I'm going to want to spice the leftovers up more, and make more potatoes.
If all else fails, throw it in a skillet and pray.
So now I'm going to heat up the tuna broccoli pasta from yesterday (mostly so I have a decent-sized container to store my pork cabbage hash in, since my parentals still have my other big one from when I gave David some of my cheesecake - I should ask for that back), then have a bath and hope I feel better soon. Like, before tomorrow might be nice. It's more of the same tomorrow, except more potential for leftovers. ...I remember I did mean to have the leftover tuna broccoli pasta for lunch, but I never got a long enough break for that so I stuck with my emergency calorie go-to of peanuts and fruit (a pear).
If I'm still hungry after tuna broccoli pasta leftovers, I'm making myself a mug cake. Damnit, I deserve a mug cake.
Mastering the Mix - The Five Fundamental Baking Techniques
Baking, the art of transforming raw ingredients into delectable treats, relies on a small number of fundamental techniques. Each one plays a distinct role in achieving the desired texture and structure in the final product. Understanding these techniques empowers bakers of all skill levels to produce consistent - and delicious - results.
The Creaming Method
This technique is widely used for cakes, cookies, and pastries. It involves beating together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then gradually adding eggs one at a time. This process introduces air into the batter, contributing to a light and airy final product. Adding the eggs separately and individually helps ensure proper emulsification and prevents a greasy outcome.
The All-In-One Method
Also known as the "dump" or "stir" method, this one is favored for its simplicity. All dry ingredients, including flour, leavening agents, and spices, are combined in a single bowl. Wet ingredients like melted butter, eggs, and liquids are then added and stirred just until combined. This method is ideal for quick breads, muffins, and some cookies. It produces a denser texture compared to the creaming method.
The Melting Method
This method prioritizes melting butter or fat before combining it with other ingredients. This technique is commonly used for bar cookies, brownies, and some savory cakes. Melted butter creates a tender and fudgy texture when combined with dry ingredients. Often, eggs and sugar are added sequentially, followed by the dry ingredients.
The Whisking Method
Whisking is particularly useful for recipes with a high proportion of liquid ingredients. Such desserts include chiffon cakes and pancakes. Dry ingredients are whisked together first, followed by the gradual incorporation of wet ingredients. Whisking allows for maximum air incorporation, leading to a light baked good.
The Rubbing-In Method
This technique is best suited for pastry dough, like those used for pies and tarts. Cold butter is cut or rubbed into flour using a pastry cutter or fingertips. This creates a flaky texture by creating pockets of air within the dough. Overworking the dough can lead to a tough final product, so this method requires a gentle touch.
The first dessert I plan to make is inspired by Shelly's Pumpkin Dump Cake, https://cookiesandcups.com/pumpkin-dump-cake/. I believe this pumpkin dump cake offers a delightful twist on the traditional pumpkin pie. Fall has sprung, and so has everyone's love for pumpkins. The stores are stocked with everything pumpkin. Personally, I love pumpkins and pumpkin foods! Dump cakes are perfect for new and less experienced bakers like myself. They require little technique and preparation time, and the ingredients are also relatively easy to obtain.
For this recipe, you'll need pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, light brown sugar, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, yellow cake mix, melted butter, coarsely crushed graham crackers, or chopped pecans if you prefer nuts, and optionally, toffee bits for added sweetness in the topping. For specific quantities refer to the link to the recipe. When I make this recipe, I will be opting to use spice cake instead of traditional yellow cake mix. The other alternative I will also utilize is adding toffee bits. For the cooking instructions refer to the link to the recipe
Once made you can serve the cake warm, or at room temperature. When I bake this dessert I will present the cake with ice cream, or other topics added. I am looking forward to trying this recipe, as I believe it will be a phenomenal sweet treat for the fall season.
