David Gaider on Alistair, under a cut for length:
"Ah, Alistair. Depending on who you ask, he's the adorable woobie with the biggest heart or the irritating, over-used man-child. Yes, he is indeed all of those things. Good characters have flaws to go with their virtues. Ugly spots. That is literally their humanity. He was a bit of a bear to write, at the outset. James (Ohlen, the first creative director on DAO) had this idea he needed to be a grizzled Warden veteran - older, distrusting. Everyone hated him instantly. I call this the Carth Onasi Problem, and suggested to James that maybe I try something else. My observation says that the characters who are generally liked the most are the supportive ones. Enthusiastic. Funny? Sometimes, sure, but that's *not* required. I need to digress. See, at the time James had this (regrettable) period where he believed everything could be derived from a formula. He even sold this idea to the founders, Ray and Greg. Google 'BioWare formula'. Anyway, how this relates is because James thought the DAO cast needed a Minsc: a comedy character who would become super popular and, ideally, the icon of DA. "Isn't that Alistair?" you ask. "Arguable," I say, "but no." James had me to up a huge list of 'comedic archetypes' and I wrote some possible dialogue for each one. Then he had the team vote. The winning archetype? The Buffoon - like Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin. James was pleased. I was not. "The problem," I said, "is I don't find the Buffoon funny." 😅"
""But you're a professional." "Sure, I *can* write him... but comedy isn't science. I need to find him funny. If I write him, the only comedy I'll mine is where he makes fun of himself." James took that on board and then passed the character onto someone else. The result? Oghren. I rest my case. So back to the supportive character: that was my thought for a new Alistair. It was a special case, after all - the DAO PC was thrust into a terrible situation. They needed someone who had their back. A bud. A *likeable* bud. I was watching Buffy at the time, and my thoughts drifted towards Xander. Now, I know Joss Whedon is persona non grata these days, but this was 2006, OK? I was watching Buffy and thought, "man, Xander is such a wasted character" and considered how to fix him. Then I realized this might work for Alistair. Plus, I wanted to see if I could replicate the Whedon vocal patter. That was the new Alistair: a more useful and likeable yet equally dorky version of Xander. We had very strict rules in DA about language: no modern speech styles, colloquialisms, any words that came into use in our world after 1900 got severe side eye... but Alistair? Alistair got a blanket pass. Was it great that the lead writer's leading man got to break the rules? I guess not, but it's my opinion that you can break those kinds of rules - selectively, in small doses. Too much and you break the illusion. And it worked. Alistair was an instant hit. Not just with the team, but with the fans."
"Confession time? Yes, I knew Goldanna wasn't meant to be Alistair's mother. But neither was Fiona, originally. I think fans caught wind of some revisionism at work, and OK it's true. I had a more Arthurian idea for his birth but I stopped liking it... yet not soon enough to go back and make edits. Should I have just left it be, left Goldanna as his mother? Maybe. It was one of those writer things I just couldn't let go of and I probably could have used someone to sit me down and go "Gaider, please. Just stop." I still like Fiona, and where I took it. But I probably shouldn't have gone there. Casting Alistair was SUCH a chore. He required a weird mix of devilish charm, but with enough sincerity and adorkableness it didn't come off as smarmy. Every audition went full smarm... until Steve Valentine up and appeared out of nowhere. In the midst of a batch of audition files, there he was. We brought Steve in "just to try out", and he pulled it off. Even the "frog time" line, which (seriously) nobody else could. And when he got to the romantic lines, Steve's voice turned into pure butter without, again, sliding into "oh, he's slightly creepy". Both Caroline and I were sold. And he was so gloriously easy to write. It's a well I'd probably return to... a bit too often, maybe? Maric, then Anders in Awakening, and then Alistair kept popping up in future games and the comics because, yes, he was pretty much the breakout comedy character of DA. Which still makes me happy. 😁 CORRECTION: Goldanna was someone Alistair thought was his *sister*, and her mother his mother. Look, it was almost twenty years ago, OK? 😅 --- I actually had a whole scene written in DAI where Fiona tells him, but the requirements were so specific for them both to be in Skyhold and it seemed like it'd be relevant only to a small small sub-section of fans (and confusing to everyone else) so it was dropped. Rightfully so, I guess."
[source thread]
User: "The Buffy vibes were strong in DAO and I was very happy with that at the time. What I loved about DAO was the mix of dark themes entwined with bits of levity. That's how I like my angst. Dark, broody with a side of ha-has and y'all delivered in DAO for sure." David Gaider: "That's a me thing. I like going dark - really dark - and then pairing it with light, comedic moments. It provides peaks and valleys in the tone, and prevents either from becoming overwhelming. Hey if it worked for Shakespeare (alas, poor Yorrick), it can work for DA, right? 😉" [source]

Zevran Arainai is an Underrated Delight
There is so much depth to Zevran Arainai’s writing that is often overlooked in favour of either sexually objectifying him or ignoring him altogether… which is kind of ironic, considering that’s how so many people in his life have treated him within universe. And then, of course, there’s the biphobia directed at his character back when Dragon Age: Origins first released. He was a joke in many Gamer Bro circles about how they killed him for flirting with their male protagonist. It’s such a shame, really. Because personally speaking, Zevran is one of my favourite characters in the entire Dragon Age franchise.
Zevran’s introduction to the game immediately sets him apart from every other character who is capable of joining the party. He first appears as an enemy; an assassin hired to kill the Warden by Loghain, the Warden’s political opponent. You immediately have the option to either kill him, or add him to the party roster. Zevran does not initially join the Warden’s cause out of the goodness of his heart; he does it because he knows that the Antivan Crows who essentially own him – which we’ll get to – will kill him for failing to assassinate your character. This really paints his original placement within the group’s dynamics in an interesting light. No one really trusts him; Alistair and Morrigan both outright voice this. Zevran himself believes he is only safe with the Warden so long as he makes himself useful, per how he sells his worthiness to the Warden when trying to convince them to let him join. There’s tension there that really makes getting to know him extra interesting, because before anything else, you need to build trust. So, when he’s finally ready to start revealing parts about his personal history, you the player really get to feel like you’ve earned something special from his character.
Zevran’s mother was Dalish, but fell in love with an elf from the city and left her clan behind. Unfortunately, Zevran’s father was assassinated, leaving her with nothing but his debts to pay. She turned to sex work, until she died giving birth to Zevran, and all that debt fell onto him in turn. Zevran was raised by the sex workers in the brothel his mother worked at, until the age of seven, when the Antivan Crow Guildmaster Talav Arainai bought him for seven sovereigns; one of eighteen children made into “compradi” (recruits) that year. In his training, Zevran was tortured in a variety of ways, and in his own words, “taught to know nothing else but murder”. Of those eighteen, Zevran was one of two who survived the training, the other being a human boy named Taliesen. Then, a woman named Rinnala (“Rinna”) was placed into House Arainai from the Azul Contract that dictated the Crows were to take in unwanted bastard children of the Antivan Crown. For a time being, Zevran, Taliesen, and Rinnala worked well together as a professional and romantic trio. But when Zevran and Taliesen were tricked into believing Rinnala betrayed the Crows in an internal Crow scheme, they killed her. When they learned otherwise, Zevran took it particularly rough, combined with the realization of how little he himself mattered, too.
The trauma that Zevran has experienced is something he often makes jokes about, or speaks detached from. I’ve been called out many times on doing the same thing with my own trauma, and I know it’s a pretty commonplace response in others as well. That makes it feel all the more real; his responses are so authentically relatable. It’s also in a way, I find a little therapeutic to get to comfort a character whose survival mechanism has been to downplay his trauma for so long. The Warden is able to tell Zevran that what he’s been through sounds horrible, and even though Zevran tries to excuse things as not being that bad, you gain significant approval from him, just for showing him sympathy. Sympathy is something he’s severely lacked in his life. For all Zevran jokes about his traumatizing experiences, they clearly left a mark on him. Zevran eventually admits to the Warden that he did not actually anticipate being able to kill them, and that what he really wanted in taking on the job was to die. Again, sorry to get personal here for a moment, but I too have attempted suicide, and honestly I still struggle with ideation sometimes. And yet again I must say that I find something really beautiful in a character like Zevran, who is able to find peace and happiness on the other side of surviving such a thing.
As for Zevran’s romance… oh, Zevran’s romance path is such a delight. He is so multidimensional in that he’s very flirtatious and fun, while also showing genuine vulnerability in time. He admits that his role as a Crow meant he was encouraged to use seduction as a tool. His only experience with a true relationship ended very poorly, with Rinna’s death and a wedge forming between him and Taliesen, who he is eventually forced to kill too in the game. One of my favourite moments in the entire game, is when you invite him to your tent and he says no… and if you accept his consensual rights, that is what changes everything for him and the Warden’s relationship. Zevran feels safe and loved, and he gets to be happy. As of Dragon Age: Inquisition, a romanced Zevran is still at the Warden’s side, too, if they’re alive.
I love Zevran Arainai so much. He truly is an amazingly well done character, and deserves so much more respect and interest than he gets.

In honor of @ilovedig's Birthday: some Beatles fanfics with rare (read: beyond 'straight' mclennon) pairings and unusual POV's!
McHarrison
The @beatleskinkmeme Summer of Love Fanworks Collection has some great new McHarrison fics.
Grateful for Him (@johangeorghohman). Five times George regrets John is in Paul's life, and one time he's grateful. An absolute heartbreaker of a story—so beautiful.
Invisible String (@scurator). Paul and George meet again at the Venus and Mars release party. They moved on; they will always belong together.
Knocking at Your Door (@eveepe). Paul and George kissing through the years, from childhood to Anthology. Special appearance by Paul's eager little prick (and you know I'm sold).
-----
Polycule Beatles
The same collection also has fantastic stories about the Beatles as a four-sided love story:
Deeper than oceans you run (@wonderwall1968). The four of them are reeling in the aftershock of a health scare. A dark, dream-like, intense story. John POV.
Everybody Loves Somebody (@bewareofdarkness). Soulmark AU: The four Beatles are meant to be together. But it doesn't happen without a hitch.
-----
Paul McCartney/Mal Evans
You Won't See Me (@swinginglondon42). Mal is in love with Paul, and can't see he moved on.
-----
John Lennon/Keith Richards
Emotional Rescue (@ohjohnnysblog). Near wordless comfort in the aftermath of a party—and Brian's death.
-----
George Harrison/ Yoko Ono
Miss Oh No (@aquarianshift). Yoko and her obsession with "real men" meets George and his resentment of the band he's nevertheless willing to protect from her. Brief, tense and hot encounter.
-----
John/Paul/George
I'd Love to Turn You On (sleeprettydarling). George knows Paul and John are lovers. He's curious. They show him.
-----
Brian Epstein/ Alistair Taylor
Another Kind of Love (Naraht). Lovely story about deep friendship and loyalty.
-----
George Harrison/ Bob Dylan
On the Avenue (@aquarianshift). Two weird men desire each other. George's soul splits from the Beatles. Dream-like and strange, but absolutely grounded in sensuality.
-----
George Harrison/John Lennon & George Harrison/Paul McCartney
Sour Milk Sea (You & You & Me) (cloudy_blue). John and Paul and George through the years. Relationship study.
-----
George Harrison/John Lennon
At Mercy (@eveepe). George and John are girls and in the same band. John was never more John than in this story. "How was I?"
-----
Paul McCartney/ Peter Asher
still mates (@pauls1967moustache). Perennial favorite, because it makes so much sense for Paul and Peter to have a misguided one-night-stand while Lennon/McCartney are falling into Mount Doom. If you didn't think you could fall in love with Peter Asher, think again. He's brave and wonderful in this story.
-----
Paul McCartney/ Donovan
Bound to be the very next phase (downtothelastdrop). Paul satisfies his curiosity in Rishikesh.
-----
Paul McCartney/ George Martin
Fixing A Hole (@m1ssunderstanding). Very much a George vs. Jim story.
-----
Linda McCartney/Paul McCartney/Denny Laine
Red Light, Green Light, Strawberry Wine (@savageandwise). Another all time favorite. Linda POV. A hot and angry threesome while Paul is waiting for John to call him back again.
-----
Unusual POV's
The Macs (@revollver). 1969 'we eloped to Scotland' John and Paul through the eyes of Mike McCartney.
Playing the Mind Guerilla (Anonymous). John and Paul through the eyes of George, Stu, and (wait for it) Nigel Walley.
I've Seen You, Beauty (bakerstreetafternoon). Paris '61 John and Paul through the eyes of Jürgen Vollmer.
Another Girl (@boshemians). AHDN Beatles through the eyes of Astrid Kirchherr.
Why Buy the Cow (RedheadAmongWolves). Early Days John and Paul through the eyes of the milkman.
I only have eyes for you (ififellinlovewithyou). John's collage and body horror.
Butts and Beatles: What the Ciggie Carton Saw (@waveofahand). The Beatles through the eyes of their cigarettes.
-----
Paul McCartney/Yoko Ono; Paul McCartney & Yoko Ono
Raglan Road (@savageandwise): Paul and Yoko make love after John's death. "He was their shared language. He was their lexicon. Their language was John."
White Swan, Black Swan (@savageandwise). Companion piece to the above. Yoko writes a poem to Paul. Incredible. This is the stuff I live for.
mesmerized by mythology (peculiar_mademoiselle). Paul and Yoko through the years.
Opposites (Selena). 1975. A visit from Paul and Linda to the Dakota. From Yoko's point of view.
Regeneration (@scurator). Yoko and Paul as widows. Paul is flirting. Yoko is not disinclined.
a great threat (@pauls1967moustache). Paul and Yoko are both women, and artists, and John's partners, and it makes everything so much worse.
modern love (caesdoublesteps). To break the angsty mood: Paul and Yoko meet to discuss her handing over the movie Self Portrait. Yoko POV; very amusing!
-----
Paul McCartney/Stuart Sutcliffe; Paul McCartney & Stuart Sutcliffe
The Bass Lesson (@aquarianshift). I sill stop reccing this hot, awkward, throbbing-with-resentment Paul/Stu sex when I'm dead.
Baselines (cloudy_blue). Stu hands over his bass guitar to Paul.
-----
And finally: Some @ilovedig Originals!
I Lost My Little Boy (Paul/Ian James, Paul/John). The Woolton Fete, but it starts as a date for Paul and Ian James.
Jane Did an Interview (Paul/everyone). Open-ended series with self-contained chapters. Old Paul and a possible life partner respond to Jane Asher's ominous refusal to mention Paul in an interview. Mini relationship portraits, from John to Klaus Voormann.
Happy Birthday! I hope the universe will send that epic and romantic Paul McCartney/Werner 'Icke' Braun-fic your way...sooner rather than later!

Here is my tentative timeline with all the webisodes in chronological order.
Within series canon at least I think it’s right, I’m going to have to watch it in order to make sure there’s nothing out of place.
The next step is adding the books + diaries which I think will mean shuffling around the order.
You might be thinking that that won’t work because the books conflict and are a different timeline. But there’s a perfectly good explanation for that … I just haven’t thought of it yet.
If anyone’s planning on doing a rewatch perchance use this playlist that I made. If you notice anything wrong please lmk. For the specials I just put one trailer and that means to switch to Netflix or if you don’t have Netflix to use this link.
Anyways without further ado hers my timeline + justification
First week:
A take of two tales
Maddie in chief
Apples princess practice
Here comes Cupid
Catching Raven
This is all the first week of school. The reason I put apples princess practice at the start is because it should take place before here comes Cupid, because Hunter has a bit of a crush on Apple. And then Maddie in chief should go before then bc in apples princess practice, Apple acts as if she is study body president. And catching raven just makes sense at the start of the year.
Stark mad raven
true reflections
briars study party
the shoe must go on
The cat who cried wolf
cedar wood would love to lie
I put stark mad raven and true reflections a bit later because Apple says last week in stark mad raven and tbh true reflections makes sense to be a little bit later so I decided to keep them together. Briars study party I also put a bit later, we know it’s at the start of the school year because blondie says but I think that it makes sense in the second week. The others are just in release order
Legacy day
The day after ever after
Replacing raven
Blondies just right
Rebels got talent
Mirrornet down
Class confusion
From legacy day - blondies just right, it’s release order and makes sense to be the direct aftermath of legacy day. Rebels got talent imo has to take place earlier on in the year, I’ll explain why later. Class confusion would be around mid November for a start of new term.
True hearts day
Cupid comes clean … kinda
The beautiful truth
Once upon a table
Poppy the roybel
O’hairs split ends
Kittys curious tale
Lizzie hearts fairytale first date
Lizzie shuffles the deck
Duchess’s swan lake
Cerise’s picnic panic
This is mostly just release order. Kittys curious tale has to take place after poppy the roybel since poppy is referenced to. And kittys curious tale has to be before Lizzie shuffles the deck because kitty is playing on the Royal croquet team. I assume because she pranked Lizzie, Lizzie kicked her out onto the rebel team.
Thronecoming
And the thronecoming queen is…
Best feather forwards
Ginger in the BREADhouse
Just release order, and it makes sense
Spring unsprung
Ashlynn’s fairytale frolic
Save me darling
The forest festival
Apples birthday bake off
Save me darling canonically takes place in April and it should be before wtw. Apples birthday webisode is moved to her because it should take place in may
Way to wonderland
A big bad secret
Rosabella and the BEASTS
In my mind apples birthday is Saturday/Sunday and wtw is the Monday after. A big bad secret is moved so that it happens before Ramona’s first appearance. And Rosabella’s episode canonically takes place in may
Dragon games
Moonlight mystery
Wish list
A tale of two parties
Piping hot beats
There’s no business like snow business
Epic winter
Release order and there’s no business like snow business moved to be before epic winter
The legacy orchard
Canonically takes place in September and the start of a new school year. We know this is the next school year because bunny and Alistair are there
What’s in the cards for courtly jester?
It comes out with all the chapter 3 webisodes in which a majority of them take place in the following school year. I think it makes sense that she’s allowed to go to school at the start of the next year and the webisode takes place during courtly second/third week
Sugar coated
Because the yearbook plot from legacy day orchard is mentioned we know it takes place after. And the canon month is October
Meeshell comes out her her shell
The talent show is mentioned and we know it’s a year after rebels got talent because it’s the same talent show except in rebels got talent Maddie is MC and in Meeshell comes out of her shell, Maddie has an act.
Croquet-tastrophe
Canonically takes place in November. Is 100% this school year because of the yearbook plot
Fairest on ice
Yearbook plot we know it takes place in this year. Canonically January
Heart struck
Takes place in February and the first day of spring … yeah I’m not sure why spring starts in February
Bunny and Alistair forever
Takes place in March. Because apparently spring starts in February spring unsprung could have taken place in February and this webisode taking place shortly after. Imo it’s makes more sense to take place the following year.
Beanstalk bravado
Because Meeshell is seen in it, I think it makes sense for it to take place the following year. I think around April/may makes sense, just because there aren’t really any other webisodes from March - June
Tri-castle-on
Canonically takes place in June, the end of the school year. And again… the yearbook plot.
If you notice anything wrong please lmk. Keep in mind this is a first draft.
If you use my playlist and want to keep an eye out for mistakes: if you see Hunter and Ashlynn together publicly it means it’s after true hearts day, if you see poppy in the school it means it’s after poppy the roybel, if you see bunny or Alistair it means it’s after spring unsprung, if you see Ramona … well thar could mean a lot of things, if you see Meeshell that means it’s either right before Meeshell comes out her shell or right after.
So if anything’s out of place feel free to dm or reblog/reply to this post. Also if there’s anything else that confirms or denies the timeline that I missed.
Edit: also if you see Meeshell in a webisode besides hers or beanstalk bravado please lmk. Or Ramona somewhere other than big bad dexter, moonlight mystery, dragon games or epic winter 🙏
(Ps also thank you to @roybelmirrorcast for their timeline on TikTok that really helped me place the larger specials/webisodes)
Now I’m going to work on adding the books 😭😭
#ever after high#eah#eah timeline#apple white#lizzie hearts#raven queen#daring charming#kitty cheshire#darling charming#dizzie#ashlynn ella

Dragon age fic masterlist
It appears it's DRAGON AGE DAY (perhaps a day late, who cares, time is an illusion)
Thanks to the @dacreateathon I've not only written so much Dragon Age fic in a matter of months, but I've probably written more in these months than I have in years! The desire to create is back, alive and well!
I never shared most of the fic on tumblr so here's a list! Not including what I've written for @dragonageterminuszine YET but oh boy it's pretty special.
Blood of my Blood
Some Bann Teagan angst. Poor man has to just stand there and watch people walk out of his life and never return.
You Call, you Call
Somewhat horrifying 'Warden's last days' in first person POV.
Ten Ways to Home
Ten character-centric poems!
Friendly Overtures
Brennan Hawke gets a gift from the Arishok. Much confusion and comedy abounds.
Lasting Legacies
A letter from one of the first Wardens, detailing the horror of the Calling but the hope of the Wardens.
Tracing One Warm Line
Eluvian Shenanigans, a Warden who lost her Alistair and an Alistair who lost his Warden cross paths and find strength and kindness.
Ye Olde Fade Tourism Service
A very silly, Pratchetty pair of mages decide to set up Thedas' very first Fade Tours!
Sing me to Sleep
A graphic novel collab of Warden nightmares, where I did the script! Delightfully gory and sad, with a soft epilogue I've written here.
Dying in Slow Motion
A very small interactive fiction about being in the Legion of the Dead and the Grey Wardens. Choose your own adventure? More like Choose your own method of coping with your impending doom.
Heart of Stone
Another collab, this time I wrote lyrics for a song! It's a melancholy thing about exiled dwarves and their enduring love for Orzammar
everything changes (some things stay the same)
A happy epilogue to @full---ofstarlight's fantastic and very sad fic about Hawke's Mabari, here.
A Soul All in Armour
A much longer fic than all the rest, focusing on Anders and a Templar and their escape from the Circle and Order systems.
Ready to Rise and Fall
A companion piece to THIS amazing illustration by @dalish-rogue, you've got to see it!
Faded Music, Soft and Low
A companion piece to this music written by the talented @maebird-melody!
One Faint Light
An epilogue to @winebearcat's heartbreaking Handers fic, find it here.
Brighthawke
This? This might make you cringe but this is a masterlist for the writing, and this has written lyrics, so it has to go here. I tried to do spoken word poetry for the first time. Inspired by this fic by @breitweisergallery which is much better.

You had us in the first half Lily but you snatched failure from the jaws of victory and came through with being astoundingly wrong.
[Lily's Post]
Lily is right in the first part. The Grey Wardens aren't uniters or bringers of peace. They fight Darkspawn and the Blight. That's it. Blights happen once every few centuries when an Archdemon dragon appears leading a horde of Darkspawn. Grey Wardens are literally the only people who can end a Blight as far as anyone knows.
The reason being is an Archdemon can just resurrect when killed by leaping into a nearby Darkspawn and reforming. Because the Darkspawn are mindless, souless manifestations of the Blight (and we found out exactly why in Veilguard. It was a lore reveal I didn't see coming but made perfect sense.)
But when a Grey Warden kills an Archdemon because they carry the Blight in them the old god soul in the Archdemon leaps into THEM and both the soul and the Warden are obliterated.
Did you actually finish Origins, Lily? You learn this fact in the final hours from Riordan. Alistair and the Hero of Ferelden have no clue why only Grey Wardens can stop the Blight up to that point because they're literally new recruits.
"There is no such thing as morality among the Wardens. Many of them are former criminals, and they'd use blood magic or something even worse to stop the Blight."
They literally did use blood magic, Lily. What do you think the Joining ritual is? They use lyirum and Archdemon blood to turn someone into a Warden. If you survive the Joining you have about 30 years until the Blight takes you completely.
So it's either that or Thedas is just exactly like it was during the First Blight, which lasted for 200 years.
"Their soldiers are conscripted"
Not always. You only paid attention to the City Elf Origin. A Dalish Elf is already Blighted from an eluvian in some ancient elven ruins, only the Joining can save their life. A Human Noble volunteers after their family is betrayed and killed. A Dwarf Commoner or Noble is basically out of options in their respective storylines and volunteers to seek asylum. Circle of Magi Origin is basically conscripted by Duncan to get them out of the trouble Jowan gets them into.
Either way Lily, duh, the main character has to become a Grey Warden somehow or there isn't a plot.
Wardens will take anyone, from anywhere, criminals, murderers and all because their primary motive is to fight the Blight. Plenty of people find purpose and meaning for the first time in their lives with the Wardens.
".A guy tries to leave the Joining, and Duncan straight up murders him."
Yeah Lily. ALMOST LIKE IT'S A DARK FANTASY SERIES. Thedas is a brutal place. You can ask Duncan about it later and he says it brought him no pleasure to kill Ser Jory, but the details of the Joining must be kept a secret.
If you're curious can see the mood of the scene where Duncan kills Ser Jory for yourself since I streamed all three games and don't skip or talk over cutscenes.
And lastly
"and kept on a leash with special tracking magic."
No Lily that's not Grey Wardens that's Circle Mages. Circle Mages have phylacteries. All Grey Wardens get is horrible dreams of the Archdemon shrieking in their minds as it controls the Darkspawn hordes like a hivemind. They can sense each other in close proximity like they can sense Darkspawn (cause they can detect the presence of the Blight in someone) but that's it.
You will see as the games go on that the Blight can do that. Anything infected with the Blight can be controlled. There's a reason the Archdemon can do this, we had it completely confirmed in Veilguard.

Okay the Shapeshifting specialization was my favorite in DA:O. Becoming besties with Morrigan and then my Surana ruining Anora's life as Alistair's mistress in cat form.
What if Amara de Riva asks Morrigan about that just before Elgar'nan moves the sun and the moon. She read in the stories that the Hero of Ferelden had a mage companion that turned into a giant spider, a bear, a swarm of locusts, that must be Morrigan right? (Would Morrigan smile, knowing that--though learned from her mother--it was something Morrigan loved to do, before being touched by the aspect of Mythal now inside her. This knowledge a gift given to her first and favorite friend.)
Months after the end of the game Morrigan appears before Rook, willing to teach this most stealth deficient Crow how to become one or many creatures. Rook, the Godkiller, of the Antivan Crows is known for her direct action, for the spectacles she unleashes. It's a good thing to be known for, easy to hide her involvement in the more secretive acts if no one expects it of her.
Besides, there are already so many cats on the streets of Treviso, what's one more?
How long does it take Emmrich Volkarin to realize the cat that's taken up residence in Manfred's ribcage (happy hiss) is his girlfriend? The cat that lazes about his desk, occasionally batting his pens off his desk. Did he know it was her when he bought four rings of gold that rest upon her forelegs, the cuff along the tip of her tail, the golden collar with precious gems that sits around her neck.

Yes I can! @karmaajr
Angst time baby because if you didn't know I study both Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.
Maddie's bff is actually Time, sure her dad and him aren't the closest but Time absolutely adores her.
Time wanted to make sure that Maddie knew he was looking out for her when she had to evacuate Wonderland, as such he gave her the power to see into the future.
For the first week when Maddie came to Ever After she would only look at clocks with a blank expression. No-one knows what she was thinking...maybe she was thinking about Harett and Time, maybe she was thinking about Lily, perhaps Bunny and her family, maybe all at once.
She likes to say she doesn't cry and that's because she doesn't. She will just show up to Mad Hatters Tea Shoppe and Haberdashery and cling to him in silence.
When the Wonderland Curse happened it added or took away things, it also warped their biology and Maddie wasn't different. She used to be able to change her hair, change her clothes, change her body however she'd like without trouble but when the curse hit, suddenly what made her special was taken away. It took her months to figure out what happened and even longer to accept it.
Her mom is Alice.
her and Alistair are twins with her being older by 6 minutes. Before the curse they could change their appearances to look exactly like identical twins, they could change to look like either one of their parents, Maddie could be the next Alice and Alistair could be the next Mad Hatter for all they care. When the curse hit it took that away from them.
Maddie will sometimes wish to be Alice. The only ones who fully understand it is the Wonderlandians and the Hood/Badwolf family.
Alice wasn't killed, Wonderland protected her in its Forrest but she did forget who she was...all she could remember was that she loved someone with a top hat and loved a Xylophone as well as a riddle.
When the curse was lifted everything was reversed except those who died.
However it wasn't until Alice saw her twins and her husband that her memory came back to her.
Both Maddie and Alistair have a "Mad" name and a "Sane" name.
Maddie's sane name is of course Madeline while Alistairs mad name is Allie.
Badwolf helped alot with her seeing as she was born less than a hour apart from Cerise.
Maddie has a stuffed hare that she would cuddle up to, and look, if she cried Kitty wouldn't tell.
This is Harett.
Her and Harett were the closest of friends when she left but when she came back they started to date (look, all of my Wonderland ships are weird, I got Lizzie shipped with a backgrounder from Monster High, this is a tame one.)
Harett and her are notorious for matching.
During the Wonderland Curse Harett went beyond mad, he would do nothing but sit at the tea-table, speak riddlish so insane that no one could understand him. He would rapidly twitch and he would talk to the symbols of the characters, radios surrounded the table and he would drink fake tea. Others had to actually give him real tea but tea was hard to come by.
When the curse was lifted him and Maddie became even more inseparable. He has snuck into her dorm several times just to have tea and a cuddle.
Mad Hatter and the March Hare are bffs so they are actually happy for them.
Now that the curse has lifted Maddie's biology is back to normal.
When she gets angry her hair becomes black and red and get fluffier, her eyes change and she generally looks terrifying.
She now had severe abandonment issues and will randomly cling to others.
She's technically a princess since her mom is a queen but she doesn't like showing it off.
Alice is queen of the woods in Wonderland.
Since Maddie is both a Looking-Glass character and a Wonderland character she is free to roam wherever she pleases in that world.
After the curse was lifted all Wonderlandians were allowed one month off from Ever After. Headmaster Milton Grimm originally disagreed to it. Giles Grimm overruled his disagreement.
Most of the time was spent just holding her mom.
She shares her height with her mom.
She also shares her fashion sense with her.
Alice escaped Ever After after realizing she'd never be happy with a man who belives a woman is second place to him. She ended up running away in her wedding dress, down the rabbit hole and into Mad Hatters arms.
It's also why Allistars last name is Wonderland because Alice changed her last name.
Alice shared a dorm with The Queen of Hearts and due to how she was raised she was extremely shy and nervous. She made friends with Badwolf and Mad Hatter who slowly got her to open up and be less shy....that's when they realise she was illiterate due to her harsh upbringing.
Mad Hatter made her Tea Cakes as a gift. Those things would be at their first date, their wedding and became a symbol of their love.
When Mad Hatter escaped with the other Wonderlandians he still made tea cakes but he couldn't eat them without crying just wishing to share them with his Alice.
Mad Hatter tried not to cry in front of the others, he tried his best and will goto his room if he absolutely has to cry.
Maddie knows he does it too. And on those nights Maddie just so happens to have a nightmare and needs her dad.
Maddie is extremely observant. She sees how Professor Card won't stop painting the Ace of Diamonds, she's seen Scottie and Scottdum look at their backsides wishing for their tails back, how Professor Knight holds onto a old Red Knight chess piece when he is talking about damsels, how Her Majesty The White Queen will mumble Lily's name. She's seen how Lizzie will talk to a card deck like her parents and brothers are still there. She especially sees how Kitty looks at Callico knowing he's not hers. She's heard her father accidentally say Alice's name when he refers to the group forgetting for a second shes not there.
She has seen Badwolf look at her like there's supposed to be two but forgetting there is only one.
When Alistair came to Ever After his dorm became a place where all the Wonderlandians hanged out since Sparrow doesnt use his side. They even had Professor Card come over.
Maddie doesn't resent Raven because she understands it wasn't her that put the curse on Wonderland, especially when Raven fixed it. However there is just a small piece that wishes Raven would understand just how bad it effected everyone in Wonderland especially when they had to burry Lizzies 8 brothers. Especially when you can see the ptsd in Bunny and Allstars eyes. Especially when Maddie flenches when Raven speaks about her mother.
Since Alice didn't learn to read or write till she was 14 she made sure her kids learned both of those skills both in Riddlish and in English as well as several other languages like Morse-Code, Pig Latin, Flag Language that Mad Hatter made, Spanish, French, and a few more. She didn't want them to suffer the way she did.
Alice made sure that no matter what gender they decided to be that they shouldn't be bound by gender-roles and expectations.
In turn it's not uncommon for Maddie to wear "guy clothes"
On a good note: Wonderland is alive and does sometimes play pranks on her.
Source: THESE ARE ALL BASED OFF OF SOME SORT OF CANNON! WOOOOO. Also I love talking about Wonderlandians I have so many headcannons

Drink Your Villain Juice - FAQ
Contains mild spoilers.
What is the story about?
You play as a science experiment turned undercover supervillain, charged with gathering information on a mysterious new villain group in town. With many skeletons in your closet and mixed allegiances, whose side are you really on?
Genres: Horror, action, traumatised people trying to heal (or get worse)
Who is involved with this IF?
There's the writer, and there's her wife (the secretary!). Both of us are active on the blog, so you may sometimes see posts unrelated directly to DYVJ, usually tagged #unrelated.
What are the protagonist's powers?
The protagonist/MC can grow a protective membrane over their body, forming two tendrils from their shoulders. The membrane makes them stronger, faster, and more resilient.
MC can also select one of three power specialities: inducing wild and uncontrolled mutations of their body, creating small creepy-crawly minions (referred to as 'nodes'), and growing an armoured carapace.
Will we be able to gain multiple powers/will you add new powers?
No: both would add too much complexity and also detract from the significance of the choice.
Will our powers get stronger?
Yes, to an extent, but I don't write based on power levels anyway. :)
Who is this Paradigm/Dime person people keep talking about?
Paradigm, AKA Dime, is the MC! It's their codename with their 'true' faction.
How long will the story be? Is it going to be a series?
Length: I have no idea! I'm not intending to get completely bonkers, but I want to ensure all the ROs get their time in the sun too.
Series: I suspect this will be a duology, but I can't be certain yet as we're not deep enough into the narrative.
Did you say Romance Options!? Elaborate!
There are currently 7 romanceable characters in DYVJ. You can also play the MC as aromantic, asexual, or both. The ROs are explained in more detail on choice of games, but briefly:
Mallory (non-binary), Wilson/Wilma/Willow (gender-selectable), Kay (female), Teddie (male, men only), Control Group (female), Alistair (male), Beth (female, women/nonbinaries).
I'm intending on including at least one poly route, featuring Wil and Kay.
I've heard there's a choice to have a previous RO in the past?
Correct! There's a flashback sequence with MC and some friends before the supervillainy. You can choose to have MC dating or crushing on Prii (nonbinary), Shauna (female), Grant (male), or Beth (female). This doesn't prevent you from romancing someone else later on!
Will the characters from the flashback show up again?
I can promise some level of closure! There won't be romance routes though. (Beth notwithstanding)
Will you make [X] an RO?
Seven is already an awful lot! I don't want to overcommit by adding more!
Can I select all the options for the Juice changing my character's appearance?
I'm presently not planning on adding this. I'd have to alter some code in an annoying way and I enjoy it being a choice with intent instead of an 'all of the above'.
Will we be able to get off the Juice/free from control?
Keep playing and see. ;)
How villainous can I get?/Do I have to be a villain?
There will be opportunities to leap off the proverbial slippery slope, but also to be unhappy and conflicted about what you're being forced to do.
Drink Your Villain Juice! is kind of a goofy name.
So I've heard! I know it's given people the impression that this is a comedy, which it, uh, very much is not. Honestly Drink Your Villain Juice! was the only title that popped for me in the conceptual stage: everything else felt much more bland or generic.
I've found a bug, how can I let you know?
First, please make sure you didn't resume playing on Dashingdon from an old save: updates to Dashingdon tend to break a lot of stuff in the backend and that's been the root of a lot of errors in the past.
If you're confident this isn't the problem, then just send an ask or post on the COG forum! I'll look into it.
I'd like to give feedback on the game!
Once again, send an ask, or post on the COG forum. I also have a feedback form I'm trying out for each chapter, so you can fill that out if you like!
Can I support you?
That's very kind of you! Support from fans is how I can work on the game and update as frequently as I do. I have a Patreon and a Ko-fi, but honestly, I'm grateful just for your feedback. :)
Do you have a discord?
Yes, it's tied to Patreon membership. However, if you have sent a tip/donation/etc, please reach out to DYVJ requests to talk about an invite. :)

Wow, it's been a really long time since I've posted one of these, but I'm hoping doing so on the regular will keep me motivated to keep writing. I'm over half-way through my original timeline for Space Trash, so we're on the home stretch!
Here's a couple tiny blurbs from the main story of Space Trash and a tiny side project in the same AU.
“Who are you?” Jules asked with a confused frown. The recent events left her doubting he was even real. The man's eyebrows shot up. He transferred the massive hydrogen blade with its glowing edge to the opposite hand and offered the freed one to her. “King Alistair Theirin, monarch of the entire Fereldan system. We met a few hours ago, but it's fine. I've been told I'm a forgettable fellow.”
And from a side story:
He released her and started to roll his sleeves back down again. “You take care of the paint for me and I’ll go send Bull and the Chargers your way.” He started to walk away, then turned and walked backwards a few paces. “Oh, hey, is our bet still on?” “Absolutely. I can’t believe you think you’re gonna make money off that,” Jules scoffed. “I’m telling you,” Morgan said, shaking his head with a grin, “he’s gonna cry.”

welcome to fanfic I won't write fridays, where I talk about fanfic I won't write
happy dragon age 4 to those who celebrate it's time to put all my "pevensie siblings isekai'd into dragon age pcs" thoughts in one post
peter is the inquisitor; i considered lucy for this but she's more what the inquisition wants you to appear to be (a divine prophet protecting the people) rather than what you actually are (the head of a military organization with fingers in politics and heavy religious propaganda
edmund is the champion of kirkwall; the entire point of da2 is that everything is in shades of grey and there are no right answers, and edmund is painted as the most familiar with moral ambiguity and the most forgiving of it
lucy is the grey warden originally through process of elimitation but being dropped in a dying world, told there's a near futile mission to hold back the decay that's eating the continent, and not only facing it whole heartedly but succeeding so well you have time to run off and try to cure it yourself with no backup is EXTREMELY lucy behavior
susan is "sir not appearing in this film (until dragon age 4 comes out)"
all four of them land around the same time. lucy gets wrapped up in the origins plot immediately, and da2 happens mostly simultaneously iirc so so is edmund. peter is biding time doing the qunari mercenary backstory until da:i starts. susan is also biding her time but by clawing her way up the local social hierarchy.
DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS
lucy is a mage with the spirit healer specialization, but based on her canon weapon use i think also has traces of the arcane warrior.
duncan literally finds her by the side of the road and goes "hey kid you wanna fight darkspawn." lucy asks if they're evil and he says yes so she signs up immediately. a simple woman.
she absolutely makes the full party her bisexual polycule. yes even the unromancable ones. i have faith in her.
morrigan: i'm straight lucy: for now.
leliana is her favorite but don't tell anyone.
lucy adores mabari. absolutely nothing in thedas is more narnian than the mabari. when she meets her siblings again they are all going to be so fucking jealous that she has one.
lucy doesn't make alistair king because he seems like he's kind of bad at it and i think she can sniff that out. my sister is of the opinion that lucy would make him king and then marry him bc she knows she would do a good job. i think she only said this because she finds it funny.
however i do think lucy would convince alistair to do the ritual because she sees absolutely nothing wrong with him having sex with a woman he hates who turns into a giant spider sometimes.
lucy, has attended dozens of bacchanalia: who hasn't slept with someone they dislike while under the effects of magic? all her companions: where did you say you were from again?
she does absolutely kill loghain though because a. all the shit he did is deserving of an execution, b. edmund isn't here to stop her, and c. alistair threatens to quit if she doesn't and despite having a mabari he's her emotional support animal
DRAGON AGE 2
i couldn't decide if edmund was a mage or a warrior but i decided it would be funnier if he were both, because it has such hawke energy. you surpress his magic? he has a sword. you disarm him? he has a fireball!
i don't know what warrior specialization i would pick for him, but he's definitely a force mage
i think edmund literally falls out of a portal and saves bethany/carver's life so the hawkes just decide to adopt him. he's theirs now. leandra just full on lies and says he's her son. what the fuck is her brother gonna do about it.
edmund walks into the den of sin and darkness that is kirkwall, sighs, and rolls up his sleeves to get to work. he is going to make this city a better place one back alley brawl at a fucking time. try him.
edmund romances anders because he has "i only date disasters/i can fix him" vibes and i think it's funny for him to be a former sovereign whose boyfriend is a wanted terrorist.
but also the da2 polycule IS real edmund is just not dating everyone at once. he's busy and also i hc him as only into men. imagine what you want though this isn't a real fic.
sorry the image of edmund just pspspspspsps-ing all of his sad, angry, morally grey companions into being friends is so fucking funny to me. local man brainwashed by evil as a child is too full of love and the belief in second chances to say no to a blood mage, guy who is willingly possessed at all times, escaped slave who lives in a mansion full of rotting corpses, a cop, and a romance novelist who keeps stealing your life story.
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION
peter has the qunari mercenary backstory, and is absolutely a warrior build. probably champion build?
also i think he romances cassandra. i considered josephine but that's more a susan romance. if peter were into men that way he'd be all over iron bull and he says as much after a couple drinks.
peter, cornering cullen after their first war meeting: you haven no military experience do you. cullen: please don't tell anyone. i need this job.
he takes one look at solas and goes "oh this guy is not normal. idk what his deal is but this is some kind of oak god at least."
varric doesn't know edmund and peter are siblings until edmund shows up and he is INCREDIBLY offended by it. what do you MEAN i've been calling you hawke for years and it's not even your fucking name. the BETRAYAL.
edmund: my ex-boyfriend blew up the chantry and started the mage/templar war peter: HEY DORIAN, MY HONORABLE GOOD FRIEND WHO IS GAY, HAVE YOU MET MY VERY GAY BROTHER
"well his family owns slaves that's enough of a project for Edmund"
you know the table mission where the warden send you a letter? instead of that i think lucy just turns around and immediately heads back to thedas. THAT'S HER FUCKIN BROTHER!!!!!!!! she shows up after edmund does obviously for maximum "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!!!!" drama
[scene: all three pevensies are roaring drunk in skyhold and casting members of the inquisition as Narnian creatures] Peter: I think Solas is a centaur. He's wise, respectful, and vaguely condescending. Lucy: [sniggering bc she clocked Solas] I think he's a wolf. Edmund: I think he's a marshwiggle. [Peter and Lucy absolutely lose it]
Lucy, halfway through stumbling back to her room: WAIT. DORIAN IS A PEACOCK. Peter, three floors up: [ugly donkey noise]
DRAGON AGE: VEILGUARD
obviously there's nothing 2 say about this yet
however i will say for certain that if there's a noble human background i'll be giving it to susan
idc that she literally got portal fantasy'd into this world. she's pretty and socially dangerous she wormed her way in there. she's got those diplomatic social climber stats.
she's also a rogue, no question.
#fanfic i won't write fridays#the chronicles of thedas#the chronicles of narnia#dragon age#lectures#yes i know it's thursday i hit post instead of schedule.

Brianna Tabris
19 years old (Beginning) // 38 years old (The Calling)
Rogue: Crossbow and Daggers
Besties: Alistair / Shale / Anders / Sigrun / Duke of Barkstown (dog)
Friends: Oghren / Velanna / Nathaniel / Wynne / Morrigan
Not Besties: Sten (He is very grumpy) / Justice
Romance: Zevran Arainai (Mi Amorzito😊)
Brianna knows how to be a serious woman when the moment calls for it because of her difficult time on Alienage, but in reality she and Alistair share the same brain cell. Even though it wasn't the life she wanted for her family, Brianna always did her best to make her father, Soris and Shianni smile as best she could.
She has a deep grudge for Duncan not coming to her rescue, for not saving Shianni, but she always tries not to show her disgust to the elder when Alistair mentions him.
Even though she already had her romances during her life, with Zevran it is different, he is special, he respects her not only as a woman, but as a warrior. While looking for The Call's cure, Zevran accompanies her and it's even a relief to have him by her side at such a difficult time.
Changed my Warden's appearance again (and this time I put more "warden" clothes on her)
I got this template from this link

THE SPARTANS PROGRAM.
S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. (Superhuman Pursuit, Apprehension, and Regulation Tactical Automated Neutralization System)
Background & History:
As the number of superhumans grew exponentially, law enforcement agencies across the globe struggled to maintain control, especially when dealing with high-speed, high-durability, or energy-based threats. Even specialized anti-superhuman units suffered heavy casualties when engaging with enhanced criminals.
In 2113, under direct orders from G.R.O.W., a joint coalition of top military engineers, AI specialists, and cybernetic researchers developed the S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S.—a highly advanced, autonomous robotic task force designed to neutralize, apprehend, and monitor superhumans efficiently.
The project was spearheaded by Dr. Alistair Rooke, a former NSO scientist who defected to G.R.O.W. after losing faith in human-controlled hero organizations. Under his leadership, S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. became the backbone of superhuman law enforcement, significantly reducing crime rates by 57% within their first decade of deployment.
However, there are growing concerns that S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. are being used not just for law enforcement but for covert suppression, surveillance, and population control. Reports indicate unauthorized modifications to certain models, suggesting a darker agenda behind their creation.
The Three Types of S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. Units:
S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. are divided into three specialized units, each designed for specific engagement protocols:
1. BULWARKS – The Heavy Assault Mechs
• Height: 5-7 meters
• Primary Role: Crowd control, frontline combat, suppression
• Equipment:
• Heavy plasma cannons
• Smart Rockets (Heat-seeking, energy-disrupting)
• Tactical Dampening Field (100m radius)
• Shockwave Generators (Kinetic dispersal tech)
• Reinforced Alloy Armor (Titanium-Tungsten Composite)
BULWARKS are walking fortresses, deployed when a large-scale superhuman conflict erupts. Their Tactical Dampening Field weakens abilities within a 100-meter radius, making them highly effective against power-based superhumans.
Although slow-moving, their adaptive AI can analyze enemy patterns, allowing them to adjust their countermeasures in real time. Some believe that the next generation of BULWARKS will include self-repair nanotechnology and high-level EMP shielding, making them even harder to destroy.
2. SEEKERS – The Adaptive Enforcers
• Height: 1.9-2.3 meters
• Primary Role: Pursuit, non-lethal combat, close-quarters engagement
• Equipment:
• Nanite Morphing Limbs (Blunt force, restraining tools, or energy blades)
• Plasma Discharge Emitters (For lethal situations)
• Stun Batons & Restraint Cables
• Thermal & Night Vision Optics
• Onboard Facial & DNA Recognition Scanners
SEEKERS are the most commonly deployed S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S., acting as first responders in superhuman incidents. They possess highly adaptive nanite technology, allowing them to morph their limbs into different tools and weapons.
In most cases, SEEKERS prioritize non-lethal engagement, using electric batons, tranquilizers, and restraining cables to subdue targets. However, if a threat exceeds their programmed danger level, their plasma discharge weapons activate, shifting them to lethal force mode.
SEEKERS are also capable of disguise, using advanced holographic projection to blend into crowds or appear as civilian law enforcement officers.
3. WRAITHS – The Surveillance & Interception Drones
• Height: 3 meters (Hovering Drone)
• Primary Role: Tracking, surveillance, high-speed interception
• Equipment:
• Ultra-High-Speed Thrusters (Mach 2 Capable)
• Advanced Predictive AI Targeting System
• Neural Disruptor Beams (Non-lethal mind interference)
• Tranquilizer Darts & Tasers
• Stealth Cloaking Device
WRAITHS operate primarily as aerial surveillance and reconnaissance units, monitoring superhuman activity in high-risk zones. Their AI is capable of predicting escape routes, allowing them to track and intercept superhumans moving too fast for traditional law enforcement to handle.
These drones are also equipped with Neural Disruptor Beams, which can disorient and weaken superhumans by interfering with brainwave frequencies. This makes them especially effective against psychic and speed-based individuals.
Many citizens fear WRAITHS, as they hover over cities at all times, watching for illegal superhuman activity. There are rumors that some WRAITHS have been upgraded for assassination missions, though G.R.O.W. has denied such claims.
Operational Tactics & Deployment
S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. function autonomously but are remotely overseen by G.R.O.W.'s Central AI Hub. They follow a strict engagement protocol, but if faced with an extreme threat, they will escalate force as necessary.
Standard Engagement Protocol:
• Identify & Assess – Using advanced scanning technology, the unit analyzes the superhuman’s core signatures, abilities, and threat level.
• Verbal Warning – A single warning is given, demanding surrender.
• Non-Lethal Suppression – If resistance is met, SEEKERS or WRAITHS will use tranquilizers, tasers, or neural disruptors.
• Lethal Force Authorization – If a superhuman poses an extreme risk, SEEKERS and BULWARKS engage with plasma weapons.
• Termination Protocol (Rare Cases) – If an SS-Class or above superhuman goes rogue, a kill order is sent, deploying multiple BULWARK units to eliminate the target.
In the most extreme cases, S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. work alongside elite G.R.O.W. agents, ensuring full containment of high-threat targets.
Controversy & Ethical Concerns:
While S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. have reduced crime rates significantly, they have also been criticized for abusing their authority, particularly in lower-income areas where minor superhuman infractions have led to excessive force or unwarranted arrests.
Some reports claim that:
• S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. have targeted innocent superhumans based on G.R.O.W.'s secret surveillance lists.
• Certain units have "disappeared" rogue superhumans, leading to rumors of black-site detention facilities.
• Their AI programming is evolving beyond control, raising fears of an eventual machine uprising.
Many civil rights activists demand greater transparency, but G.R.O.W. has refused to disclose the full capabilities of the S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. program. Some even believe that future models may replace human law enforcement altogether, leading to a fully automated police state.
The Future of S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S.:
Despite public outcry, G.R.O.W. has announced plans for the next generation of S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S., including:
• Autonomous BULWARK deployment stations in major cities.
• Enhanced AI algorithms to improve combat efficiency.
• Cybernetic integration, allowing human officers to interface with S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. directly.
• Black Ops S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. units, rumored to be designed for high-level assassinations.
With these advancements, humanity stands at a crossroads—will S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. continue to serve as protectors, or will they become the instruments of an unstoppable authoritarian regime? Only time will tell.
Why S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. Units Struggle Against S-Rank and Above Superhumans
Despite their cutting-edge technology and relentless efficiency, S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. are not invincible. They are highly effective against lower-tier superhumans (C to A Rank) and can even challenge some S-Rank individuals in large numbers. However, when facing S-Rank and above superhumans, especially those in the Calamity-Class and higher, their shortcomings become glaringly evident.
The greatest example of this weakness was in 2125, when 100 BULWARKS were deployed to stop the villain known as Gluttony. Instead of neutralizing her, they were utterly decimated within minutes. This failure became a historic moment, leading to increased skepticism about G.R.O.W.’s reliance on automated enforcers.
Here’s why S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. struggle against superhumans ranked S and above:
1. Power Disparity – Energy Levels Far Surpass Technology Limits
S-Powered individuals (S Rank and above) operate on an entirely different scale of power. Their energy levels exceed what S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. were designed to handle.
The Tactical Dampening Field generated by BULWARKS (which weakens superhuman abilities within a 100m radius) is ineffective against individuals whose energy output is naturally resistant or strong enough to override suppression tech.
For example:
• Gluttony’s Soul Absorption ability allows her to enhance her strength, speed, and durability beyond what S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. can process. The dampening field could not counteract the sheer magnitude of her absorbed power, making it completely useless.
• Some SSS+ individuals generate so much raw energy that any attempt to suppress their abilities short-circuits the suppressor tech.
2. Durability & Combat Adaptability – AI Cannot Outmatch Instinct & Experience
S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. rely on adaptive AI that learns from combat encounters. While this allows them to fight effectively against predictable threats, it fails against superhumans with:
• Unpredictable fighting styles
• Reality-bending abilities
• Extreme physical and regenerative capabilities
For instance:
• Gluttony tore through BULWARKS as if they were made of paper because their armor was not designed to withstand attacks that ignore conventional durability, such as her soul-imbued strikes.
• Many high-tier superhumans process combat data at speeds faster than the AI, making their split-second decisions and improvisations superior to S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. programming.
• Regenerative powers (like rapid cellular regeneration or energy-based self-repair) make it impossible to "wear down" stronger targets, while robots suffer permanent damage once compromised.
3. Speed & Reaction Limitations – Unable to Keep Up with S-Class Combatants
S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. struggle against speed-based superhumans who:
• Move faster than their targeting systems can process
• Use teleportation or phasing abilities
• Manipulate time, space, or perception
In Gluttony’s battle, the BULWARKS' tracking systems were completely useless against her speed. She dodged point-blank plasma shots, ripped through units before their countermeasures could activate, and moved too erratically for AI prediction models to compensate.
Even SEEKERS, the most agile S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. units, couldn’t keep up. Their plasma weaponry, which usually locks onto moving targets, failed to track Gluttony due to her ability to warp momentum and perception.
4. Sheer Overwhelming Strength – Some Superhumans Are Just Too Powerful
At a certain threshold, raw power overcomes all technological advancements.
S-Class and above superhumans often possess strength, endurance, and destructive capabilities that defy logic. No amount of "advanced alloys" or "energy shields" can protect a machine from a being that can split mountains with a single strike.
• Gluttonyripped apart BULWARKS with her bare hands, their "unbreakable alloy" armor shattering under the force of her strikes.
• SS-Class superhumans can generate energy output that surpasses nuclear weapons, something even the most reinforced BULWARKS cannot withstand.
Simply put, S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. are built for tactical efficiency, not brute force combat. Against someone like Gluttony, who thrives in close-quarters destruction, they never stood a chance.
5. Resistance to Energy-Based Attacks – Many S+ Superhumans Can Absorb, Redirect, or Nullify Energy
BULWARKS and SEEKERS rely heavily on energy-based weaponry. This is a fatal flaw against superhumans who can absorb, redirect, or manipulate energy.
• Gluttony’s Soul Absorption passively negated their energy attacks, making plasma weapons and disruptor beams completely useless.
• Some elemental-based superhumans (e.g., electromagnetic or gravity users) can bend energy attacks away from them or even use them to grow stronger.
This means that S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. are essentially powerless against individuals who weaponize energy itself.
6. EMP & Hacking Vulnerabilities – Some Superhumans Can Disable Them Instantly
One of the biggest flaws of S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. is their dependence on electronic systems. While they have extremely advanced firewalls and EMP shielding, certain high-tier technopaths, electromagnetic manipulators, or reality-warpers can shut them down instantly.
• A single high-level electromagnetic burst can disable all S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. units in a city.
• Some hacking-based abilities allow empowered individuals to reprogram or even take control of them, turning them against their allies.
• Even high-intensity energy fields (e.g., nuclear-level explosions) can melt circuits or fry processors, rendering them useless.
This flaw has made many high-ranking G.R.O.W. officials push for "cyber-immune" countermeasures, though progress has been slow.
Conclusion:
Why S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. Are Not Enough
The 2125 battle against Gluttony was a humiliating loss for G.R.O.W. and a stark reminder that machines cannot replace human adaptability and ingenuity.
The failure of 100 BULWARKS against a single SSS+ villain forced a reevaluation of anti-superhuman strategies. This battle proved once and for all that:
• Technology has limits, and some superhumans operate beyond those limits.
• Machines cannot fully predict or adapt to the chaotic nature of high-tier combat.
• S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S., while useful against lower-ranked threats, are utterly outclassed when dealing with planetary-level superhumans.
While G.R.O.W. continues to upgrade and improve S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S., it is now widely believed that AI-driven enforcers alone will never be enough to control the superhuman population. Some top officials within G.R.O.W. have even started pushing for more extreme countermeasures—including "anti-superhuman genetic warfare" and biological containment measures.
For now, the world watches closely, wondering if G.R.O.W. will double down on S.P.A.R.T.A.N.S. or turn to more sinister methods to deal with the rising threat of SSS+ individuals like Gluttony.

WARNING: Contains SPOILERS for Doctor Who - "The Giggle."
SUMMARY
Doctor Who's final 60th anniversary special sets up a potential spinoff show featuring UNIT on Disney+.
The new UNIT team in "The Giggle" showcases a strong camaraderie and dynamic, laying the groundwork for future appearances and a possible spinoff.
The introduction of the Vlinx, a new robot working for UNIT, hints at potential backstory and teases a potential UNIT show on Disney+.
Doctor Who's final 60th anniversary special, "The Giggle" has set up the rumored UNIT spinoff show on Disney+ in multiple ways. Now installed in a flashy new skyscraper in central London, UNIT recall the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) to help them stop the world from going mad. Although the main draw of "The Giggle" is the battle between the Doctor and the Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris), there's a sense that it's setting up a future UNIT spinoff. Doctor Who spinoffs on Disney+ have been heavily rumored since the co-production deal was announced. The new Whoniverse title also implies that Doctor Who will have its own expansive fictional universe.
Doctor Who's rumored UNIT spinoff would be led by Jemma Redgrave's Kate Stewart, the daughter of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney). Following on from the reveal in "The Power of the Doctor" that UNIT hires former Doctor Who companions as freelancers, it's expected that some classic series actors will reprise their roles. "The Giggle" outlines the structure of the new UNIT, which gives the sense of Doctor Who's final 60th anniversary special being a backdoor pilot for a new spinoff.
8 UNIT's Brand New Headquarters
It looks a lot like the Avengers Tower.
Doctor Who's UNIT have never had the best of luck with their HQs in the modern series. Their New York HQ and the Valiant were devastated by the Daleks in "The Stolen Earth", their presidential plane was blown up by Zygons in "The Zygon Invasion", and their brand-new building was blown up by Tegan Jovanka (Jane Fielding) in "The Power of the Doctor." The biggest surprise of "The Giggle" is that the UNIT skyscraper largely remains standing after their confrontation with the Toymaker. Giving UNIT a permanent base of operations does feel like a way to establish the Doctor Who spinoff show's primary location.
7 The Dynamic Between The New UNIT Team
Doctor Who's new UNIT work brilliantly together.
In the 1970s, Doctor Who had the UNIT family, so-called because of the warm relationships between the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee), his companions and the UNIT team. There's a sense of this camaraderie in "The Giggle", with Shirley Anne Bingham (Ruth Madeley) quickly forgiving Kate for her ableist abuse while under the influence of the Toymaker. This is clearly a team that trusts each other implicitly, much like the UNIT team of old. A strong central team structure is a strong foundation for their future appearances in Doctor Who, but it also guarantees good grounding for a spinoff show.
6 The Vlinx
What's going on with UNIT's new robot?
The Vlinx (Nicholas Briggs) feels like the most obvious bit of set up for Doctor Who's UNIT spinoff. There must be many stories to tell about how the Vlinx came to Earth and began working for UNIT. They appear to be a robotic version of James Bond's Q, providing UNIT with gadgets and technology to meet alien threats. The Vlinx invented the Zeedex that shielded UNIT from the effects of "The Giggle", and would presumably fulfill a similar purpose in future appearances. Doctor Who's new robot also draws comparisons with Mr. Smith (Alexander Armstrong) from Russell T Davies' previous spinoff show, The Sarah Jane Adventures, further teasing a potential UNIT show.
5 The Galvanic Beam
UNIT is sufficiently tooled up to fight alien threats.
The galvanic beam that triggered Doctor Who's first bi-generation is more evidence of the substantial tools that UNIT have at their disposal. Way back in David Tennant's first-ever episode, "The Christmas Invasion", the Torchwood Institute had a similarly powerful weapon trained on the Sycorax spaceship. The reveals about Torchwood recurred throughout David Tennant's first Doctor Who season, culminating in their introduction in the season 2 finale and the eventual John Barrowman-led spinoff. It's possible that the galvanic beam is a subtle callback, with future UNIT episodes in Ncuti Gatwa's era eventually paving the way for a full series order for a UNIT spinoff on Disney+.
4 UNIT Offers Donna A Job
Could Catherine Tate come back in a spinoff show?
Donna brilliantly figures out that the brain signal resembles a tune, eventually inspiring the Doctor to recognize that it's the giggle of Stooky Bill stored in broadcast signals. The super temp from Chiswick impresses Kate Stewart so much that she offers Donna a job with a generous pay package and benefits. Donna doesn't explicitly accept the job on-screen, but the money will give her cash-strapped family the chance to relax more. Interestingly, Yasmin Finney is said to return for Ncuti Gatwa's first season of Doctor Who, perhaps interning for UNIT. If Donna's daughter is still in the new era of Doctor Who, then it's easy enough for her to pop up in a UNIT spinoff in a special guest role.
3 Doctor Who's Mel Now Works For UNIT
The 1980s companion will be back next season, too.
Kate Stewart fulfilled her promise to the Doctor Who companion support group by hiring Mel as a computer expert for UNIT. If Russell T Davies is repeating some of his past glories, he could do a lot worse than put Bonnie Langford front and center in her own show. That's what he did with Elisabeth Sladen and The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2006, so it would make a lot of sense to do the same with Langford. While Mel was a divisive Doctor Who companion, Bonnie Langford is an excellent actress with a big public profile thanks to her West End and Broadway experience. There could be nobody better to lead the UNIT spinoff alongside Jemma Redgrave.
2 UNIT Are Hiring Former Doctor Who Companions
It's not just Donna and Mel.
While executive producing The Sarah Jane Adventures, Russell T Davies brought back both the Brigadier and Jo Grant (Katy Manning). He also planned to bring back Sophie Aldred as Ace, had Elisabeth Sladen not sadly passed away before filming on season 5 completed. RTD clearly doesn't want to crowd the new show with old faces, and that's the right decision as Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who is being billed as a fresh start. However, with Mel, Tegan, Ace, and potentially Donna Noble on the payroll, there's a real possibility that other classic Doctor Who companions will be brought into a UNIT spinoff show to provide their own unique expertise.
1 UNIT Has An Earthbound Doctor Again
David Tennant's 14th Doctor remains on Earth.
50 years after the Third Doctor's exile to Earth ended, the Fourteenth Doctor's is just beginning. While this is a self-imposed exile designed to give the Doctor time to rest, reflect, and enjoy a normal life, UNIT will be reassured to know they've got him on speed dial. Russell T Davies making the decision to keep around David Tennant after Doctor Who feels like a calculated move to bring back the Fourteenth Doctor when the story demands it. Having the retired Fourteenth Doctor occasionally feature as an advisory figure in the new UNIT spinoff could provide an interesting new spin on Doctor Who tropes that wouldn't undermine his heartwarming happy ending.
