It makes us so happy to see guests like Jaycie speaking up for sharks and educating those around her about the importance of these animals! Check out Helpsavesharks.org for other ways to get involved. With over 100 million sharks killed per year sharks are in desperate need of better protections and fisheries regulations which will be difficult without support from the general public #SpeakUpForSharks #ProtectWhatYouLove #Repost @jaycie_johns ・・・ Swimming in the open ocean with sharks ✔️🦈 . . . If you ever find yourself on the island of O’ahu, check out @oneoceandiving & take a trip out to see these incredibly calm & fascinating creatures. The crew teaches you about their behavior & physiology & how to safely interact with them in the water. These are anything but mindless, man eating monsters. They are so important to the ocean’s ecosystem & deserve an incredible amount of respect. Easily one of the most exciting experiences I’ve ever had & I am more than positive I’ll be back out with them again . . A few ways to help save sharks - Don’t eat shark fin soup or anywhere that supports shark finning - Watch real documentaries about the importance of sharks - Go diving or snorkeling with sharks (in a cage or cageless) - Donate to @oceanramsey & other shark conservation organizations - Share you curiosity & love for sharks & the rest of the ocean 🐳🐙🐠🦀 (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/B40yrmrnr19/?igshid=1ipxwfgw4r8bn

Please support Bill #Repost @oneoceandiving (@get_repost) ・・・ 🇨🇦 CALL TO ACTION! 🇨🇦 Please help us #SaveSharks by supporting bill SB-238 which if passed would ban the import and export of shark fins in #Canada! The passage of this bill would be significant as Canada is the largest importer of fins in the world outside of East Asia, and of the 59 samples collected 76% of fins were from species classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN. The movement to ban this trade began back in 2017 when legislation was first introduced, and despite bipartisan support the passage of the bill continues to be delayed. Your support is urgently needed more now than ever as pass before parliament adjourns for the summer (in 3 weeks) it will get delayed again because of the election and may take years to pass or might never make it through.  The supreme court of Canada has already ruled that local government cannot ban shark fin importation so please #SpeakUpForSharks now and make your voice heard! How can you help? 1. SIGN THE PETITION- Google “End the cruel shark fin trade in Canada” to join the 300,000+ people that have signed the Change.org petition 2. CALL- If you are Canadian please call your local member of parliment and ask them to push the bill forward so it can be enacted. Find your member of parliament by entering your postal code at https://www.ourcommons.ca/Parliamentarians/en/members 3. SHARE- Repost this post, tag your Canadian friends in the comments, start conversations and tell everyone you know about this bill! The more supporters the better and we need everyone’s voice. Special thanks to Akhila and new @oneoceanglobal youth ambassador Maya and for bringing this to our attention! 🦈🤙🏽💙 #sharkconservation #sharkfin #sharks https://www.instagram.com/p/BycLeEIg_v8/?igshid=13gsb9t27cc27

Reposted from @blueoceanaction - Reposted from @oneoceandiving - Afraid of ending up as shark dinner? Don’t be! It’s more likely for sharks to end up as human dinner! Shark fin soup is an expensive delicacy that is eaten in China as well as some Chinese restaurants in America. It can cost anywhere from $300 to $2,000, and all for a bowl of soup! Eating sharks has no nutritional value, and in fact it has been found that humans are at risk of acquiring the neurotoxin BMAA (Holtcamp 2012). This is a compound normally produced by cyanobacteria, and apex predators (like sharks) tend to have high concentrations of this because they eat so much including other predators with high concentrations of BMAA (Holtcamp 2012). It is estimated that 1.4 million tons, or around 100 million individual sharks are killed per year for shark finning (Worm et al. 2013). The practice itself is extremely wasteful and inhumane: illegal fisheries have been found to use sea lion flesh to bait the sharks, and once caught the fins are cut and the shark is discarded to either bleed out or suffocate (Schiller et al. 2015). - PRESS PLAY...part 1 of my “If sharks could speak” If they knew what humans were doing to their populations...#SpeakUpForSharks #HelpSaveSharks #saveTheOcean Please repost Photo I took years ago of a beautiful #GreatWhiteShark I hope is still alive 💙 #savingjawsmovie #SavingJaws #OceanRamsey #SharkSpeaking #ifSharksCouldSpeak #truth #reality #apexpredatornotmonster #oneocean #oneoceanglobalambassador #oneoceandiving 💙🦈💙 My shark would say “I know I look scary but there’s a lot more to me than meets the eye and if you got to know more about me and you might even like me. My job is to keep the ocean healthy by preventing disease from spreading and keeping lower trophic level populations in balance.  I pick off the week wounded injured sick dead and dying. Unfortunately my kind is being brought to the point of extinction we are being killed by humans at a rate of almost 100 million sharks every year, that averages out to 2 to 3 sharks being killed every single second, that is not a sustainable number.  We are mostly killed in very cruel ways with our fins being cut off while we are still alive just to satisfy the demand for shark fin soup a status symbol bowl of soup that is not even nutritious, its toxic, like our meat, its bad for your health to eat shark. We are also being killed just for sport for shark fishing or just because people think we are monsters or we are wastefully caught in nets. Many people don’t care about us because they’re afraid of us because we are so Misportrayed in the media and we can’t speak up for ourselves. Less than 10 people a year die from a shark bite it’s very rare that we ever make a mistake despite the fact that humans dress up looking like seals and acting like injured marine animals. Please help us before it’s too late before we are all gone because the rest of the ocean relies on us and all humans rely on the ocean for the air they breathe and I am a part of that life cycle. please help me, please repost this and help save the last of my kind” - via @oceanramsey https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn056bLgKIt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xldxuzdh57sd

Such beautiful apex predators. 🦈 Their role in the ocean is incredible and, as weird as it may sound, we’re so lucky to have them in the ocean. #SpeakUpForSharks. @savingjawsmovie. Photo and caption by One Ocean Diving co-founder, @juansharks 🦈💙 ・・・ 1st thing most people ask when they see my photos usually is “Were you scared”? My reply is “don’t fear sharks, fear for them.” Sharks have been on this planet for more 400 million years, surviving 5 mass extinction on this planet, evolutionary perfection, yet in the last 30 years humans have wiped out sharks populations by 90 to 95 percent. Sharks may not survive us.  #extinctionisforever  #helpsavesharks  #coexist #ApexpredatorNotMonster  #DeepBlue #whitesark #sharks #discoversharks photo by me using @aquatech_imagingsolutions @cressi1946 @north_sails @xcelwetsuits and powered by @guayaki #cometolife #oneocean #juansharks diving with the team at @oneoceandiving @andriana_marine @alexis_underthesea @capt_shy @forrest.in.focus @mermaid_kayleigh (at North Shore, Haleiwa, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bve-kpMB3T7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16cvuji588k81

Stunning photo of two Galapagos sharks and important caption by @hannah_gabrielson. Please #SpeakUpForSharks, as they are not the enemy; we need them for a healthy planet. ・・・ “Sharks are often misunderstood; they're not maniacal eating machines, eager to devour anything or everything in their path. Only about 30 of the approximately 501 species of sharks are dangerous, and even these rarely attack humans. People, however, are responsible for the death of 11,400 sharks every hour, every day. Since sharks grow slowly, breed late in life and generally bear few young, the populations of many species of sharks are declining dramatically. Without more regulations, many species will become extinct.” @montereybayaquarium #sharks #galapgosshark #stopkillingsharks #saynotosharkfinsoup #stopfinning #stopculling #savesharks #sharks #itstheirocean #hawaii #hawaiisharks #simplysharks #discoversharks #sharkconcervation #oceanconcervation #ikelite #nikon #discoverocean #madeofocean (at Haleiwa, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvdBuQPDh4v/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ll1nfbl4uyyc

While we love to focus on the positive and natural beauty of sharing space with sharks, it’s also important to recognize the fact that around the world in practically in every country with a coastline sharks are being killed off at alarming rates to the point where many populations may face extinction within our lifetimes. This is the harsh reality, and until sharks are brought closer to the hearts of the general public and there is support in place for their protection they will continue to decline #ProtectWhatYouLove #SpeakUpForSharks before it is too late #MakeADifference #ExtinctionIsForever If you come across a business selling shark products like this we have pre drafted letters available for download in German, Mandarin Chinese, traditional Chinese, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Norwegian (contact us if you speak another language and you’d be willing to help us translate 🙌🏻) at helpsavesharks.org to help persuade businesses to stop supporting the global shark trade! Read below to hear more about the story and context behind these photos: #Repost @kokocuvier 💙 ・・・ REALITY// It’s not always pretty. It’s not always coexistence and aqua hues. I’m very lucky to often be on the side of the shark realm capturing them in their beauty and environment. And I have a lot of respect for my fellow shark researchers and conservationists that dedicate their lives to documenting the darker side of things. But every now and again I experience this side of things as well and it is always humbling. Hoping to find more balance in my efforts in this way. Next stop; Lombok. // As the stand worker watched me take photos he took out props he had ready for the sharks as I’m sure many tourists photograph them as well. It was obvious that he expected a laugh or a smile, as that was the typical reaction of tourists passing by. This is how sharks are viewed by a majority of the population. Demonized predators being punished for simply existing. (at Oahu Life) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrMYEaUhKyi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1i4afsz34q7oi

Even if the media taught us to fear it doesn’t mean we can change our mindset through experience. Sharks aren’t the problem, lack of understanding of their nature is. We need sharks in order to have a beautiful ocean to enjoy. Mahalo @9292anna for giving sharks a chance and speaking up for them! We hope to see you out with us again soon 💙🦈 ・・・ 🌺: Turn fear into fascination. #CageTheFear | 🦈The first and only cage-less shark research and diving program in Hawaii. #PelagicProgram #PelagicSharkProgram #NorthShore #Haleiwa #Oahu #Hawaii When I first decided to swim with sharks it was all about getting an amazing photo (@ivana_sljapic 😆). Then I started to watch documentaries, videos, Ted talks, to learn more about these misunderstood pelagic animals and to read researches about their importance to the health of our ocean, instead of relying on the misleading information that media feed us. The fact is we can #coexist but in order to coexist, they need to exist. 70 to 100 millions sharks are killed every year (mostly for shark fin soup) #SayNoToSharkFinSoup #NotYourFins #StopFinning Their populations are rapidly decreasing around the world and we need to use our voice to spread the awareness #SpeakUpForSharks #HelpSaveSharks #WeNeedSharksAlive cause they are keystone structures to the health of the #Ocean! #SaveTheOcean P.S. we got a bunch of amazing photos! 😁 Mahalo nui loa! @oneoceandiving @oneoceanglobal @oneoceanresearch @oneoceaneducation @oneoceanconservation @oneoceansharks @waterinspired @oneoceandesigns @littleoceantours @oneoceanhawaii @oneoceanbikini https://www.instagram.com/p/BpKrYpYB7VX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=4rnsdxsjrdgc

Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission has announced they will be hold public workshops throughout the state of Florida to head the public’s concerns and thoughts on shore based shark fishing. With recent concerns that were brought to a meeting this past April, FWC has requested the public’s input on future management of shore based shark fisheries. Every species reacts different to being caught and the energy a shark expels when caught is enough to kill them once released. Florida waters are classified as EFH (essential fish habitat) for endangered species such as the great hammerhead. Some ideas of management include; require education on species before permits granted, prohibit chumming from shore, prohibit shore based shark fishing from specific beaches, gear and handling regulations such as shark remains in the water to maximize survival of release of shark. If you are in Florida from now until the end of August PLEASE attend these meetings and voice how sharks need our protection! If you are unable to attend and want to speak up for sharks submit comments at http://MyFWC.com/saltwatercomments. Meeting dates and locations found by swiping to the right or at the link above. #SpeakUpForSharks Post by @carlytrapanese Photo by @juansharks of @oceanramsey _____________

Have you ever seen a business selling shark products? Items like these baby sharks in jars (swipe right) often sold in unexpected places like Florida are so unnecessary and quite morbid if you ask us. 🤢 Although the fin trade is the primary driver of the global decline in shark populations, shark conservation is a global issue and there are steps every single person can take in their part of the world to make an impact. Many would be surprised to learn that sharks are hidden in many consumer products or sold by regularly businesses that aren’t aware of their importance. Do you know a business that is selling shark meat, shark fin soup, or shark derived products? Sign our pre-drafted letter at HelpSaveSharks.org you can modify depending on the business and give it to that establishment! Make sure the business knows that you were a potential customer but chose not to support them due to the fact they were selling shark products. Public pressure and raising awareness for those that are not yet informed can help businesses to make the right decision. #SpeakUpForSharks Letter available for download at HelpSaveSharks.org in English, German, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian and traditional Chinese. #SavingJawsChallenge Aloha, everyone. We want to thank you for the immense support regarding the newly-released documentary, Saving Jaws. We’re hoping to reach more and more people to educate them about the importance of sharks and why we need them in our oceans. Although there are several other forms of entertainment that use scare sensationalism to talk about sharks, we hope that we can shed a light on a much more realistic perspective of these animals through this film. Join the #SavingJawsChallenge by reposting one of the photos pictured here on your Instagram page (must be a public account) with some sort of Saving Jaws mention in the caption with hashtag #HelpSaveSharks and #SavingJawsChallenge, encouraging your friends to check it out and/or talking about the importance of sharks in the ocean ☺️ The first 20 people to repost will win a sticker pack from @oneoceandesigns/@oneoceandiving 💙🦈 (Please tag @oneoceandiving @oceanramsey and @juansharks in the photo so we can see) Mahalo again for the continuous love and support 🙏💙 - Where to watch Saving Jaws// USA: Amazon Prime and iTunes Internationally: Google Play and Vimeo #savesharks #apexpredatornotmonster #speakupforsharks ・・・ Special thanks to Keoni and Ashley Kabowthorpe and their whole family, @mikeprickett_ & @miraprickett @saltnairstudios @exploreOrg Charlie @travelsbylily , @mikecoots @clarklittle @sunnyboyyy @dizzydizzo @michelelbarnes @clarklittle @shelle_belle_ @mermaid_kayleigh @nataliekparra @madi_makoff @craigparryphotography @tracyann_saltygirl @selenaleelalee @zacefron @jimmyfallon @thelifeofrileynz @guillaumenery Dr Mauricio Hoyos, Randall Arauz, Rob Martin, Odin Zahrobsky, Joshua Ligairi, and my INCREDIBLE team @oneoceandiving @oneoceanresearch @oneoceanconservation @oneoceanglobal @pycousteau @oneoceansharks @waterinspired @oneoceaneducation @xcelwetsuits @cressi1946 @pelican @north_sails (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzbfxWrnFUz/?igshid=k6bnm00f3dc7

Epic capture of a shark party of sandbars taken on a recent charter! 😍🦈🦈🦈 These sharks certainly recognize us a humans and visitors in their home, and sharks are generally remarkably tolerant of our presence and very good at sharing space. Few other predators like lions or bears would allow you to observe them in such close proximity, and with the right knowledge, training and respect for them as apex predators we can coexist. It’s extremely unfortunate that the respect sharks usually show humans isn’t always mutual, but sharing firsthand knowledge and experience about the true nature of these animals can open the door to changing perceptions and appreciating them for their intrinsic value and ecological importance. #SpeakUpForSharks💙🤙🏽🦈 ___________ #Repost @joe_leahy ・・・ It’s truly mesmerizing watching these incredible animals gracefully navigating this deep, cobalt-blue world. Everyday at #OneOceanDiving we help #SpreadAwareness and #Educate the public of how important sharks are by getting people in the water and seeing for themselves that sharks are #ApexPredatorNotMonsters However, too regularly on dives it is heart breaking to see a number of sharks suffering from human impact such as these individuals wrapped or caught on lines. Sadly we couldn’t get close enough to help these guys from the destructive and catastrophic harm of manmade products. The team at @oneoceandiving regularly try to cut long lines off sharks, freeing them from rope and fishing lines. Hooks will eventually rust out but the trailing line can get caught or end up wrapped around the shark making it important to grime the line as short as possible. Seeing sharks entangled like this is increasingly becoming a common sight globally which can be reduced if the general public are #ConsciousConsumers help #SpeakUpForSharks and support sustainable fishing practices. We hope sharing this video of numerous sharks with lining attached to them will encourage you to have a #VoiceForSharks and all #MarineLife that is affected by human impacts, causing a lifetime of suffering. #SaveTheOcean #NoExcuseForSingleUse #MakeAnImpact #OceanConservation Post and Video by: @sarwren

#HelpSaveSharks! #Shark conservation is progressively becoming more important on a global scale due to devastating impacts of over fishing on shark populations. An estimated 100 million sharks are killed yearly with possible range value from 63-273 million sharks per year (Davis 2013). At this frequency sharks are unable to recover and are vulnerable to exploitation due to having long gestation periods (Kirby, 2003). The leading cause for shark population decline is consumer demand across Hong Kong and China for #SharkFinSoup where sharks face a disturbing death that involves their fins being cut off and live bodies thrown back into the ocean, leaving them unable to swim. Sharks need to be swimming constantly in order to breathe, allowing oxygen from the water to be extracted by their gills; without their fins and the ability to swim, sharks eventually suffocate and die (Saha, 2016). How can you help? #SpeakUpForSharks As a #VoiceForSharks and marine life, boycott restaurants that serve shark fin soup. Get into contact with known restaurants that serve shark fins and inform them of the #impacts demand for shark fin soup has on our #oceans. #SpreadAwareness #SaveOurOceans Post by @sarwren Video by: @wildaid @yaoming_official
