The tgcf English dub dice rolling gambler’s den scene has me Insane, like it was already a metaphor for gay sex in the book but oh. My god. The dialogue choices in the donghua dub. Fuck.

Like let’s take a look at these out of context:

“No, relax. Gently.”

“Like this?”

“Yes that’s perfect.”

“Again?”

“Yes.”

“You see? It’s bigger now. You’re doing great, don’t stop.”

Horniest possible dialogue, 30/10, I need to shake the scriptwriter’s hand.

hmm the watchman in the prologue of aeschylus' agamemnon saying οἶκος δ᾽ αὐτός, εἰ φθογγὴν λάβοι, σαφέστατ᾽ ἂν λέξειεν, "this house, if it could find a voice, would tell it so clearly" and clytemnestra in sophocles' electra condemning agamemnon for sacrificing iphigenia and justifying killing him and then telling electra φαίη δ᾿ ἂν ἡ θανοῦσά γ᾿, εἰ φωνὴν λάβοι, "the dead girl would say so too, if she could find a voice". the house and the dead as voiceless in the same way. what a way to say that the way death turns a person into an object is by silencing them.

the scene on the boat honestly feels to me like kant's actions are just the culmination of a spiral that's been going on for a while now.

he’s being pulled in different directions that are fundamentally incompatible. protecting babe is the single drive that the entire show has been built around; none of the rest of the events in the show after the first part of the first episode happen without it.

at the same time kant genuinely has fallen in love with bison at this point. and there’s nothing he can do about it! he can't work for captain christ and protect bison but he has to be at his every beck and call to protect babe. by the time he admits to himself that he cares about bison too much to betray him he's already betrayed him too much.

i think he's known the whole time, on some level, that he’ll never be truly free of the captain. but he’s already made the choice. and even if he were honest with bison now what good would it do?

and yet he tells style he's going to stop working for the captain anyway. he even cites babe as one of the reasons.

this, honestly, makes no sense. nothing about the fundamental dynamics between him and his brother and the captain has changed. christ explicitly threatened babe in the first episode and — the way i read it — he hasn't stopped.

i don’t think kant is thinking clearly through the situation and deciding that the captain will never let him go so he might as well save the man he loves. i think he’s just desperately flailing at anything anything that would let him out. fox in a trap chewing off his own leg!

and so then the scene on the boat where he just. stops. i think there are multiple things going on simultaneously there — obviously kant is terrified and bison is a loose cannon — but it isn't his only option. bison is expecting to be cajoled and groveled to and what he gets is kant jumping wrists tied into the water. you can threaten me all you want, but i quit.....

I kinda want it to be in Japanese with English subtitles. I don't mind reading during a movie. It'd also feel more like the game.

Anyway this is the first one!

I'm actually writing a fic about Edwin and Charles fencing for fun at the office I loved to hear about the helmets so much!!!

I'm going to use some of the words he said in my fic, other are welcome too! Edwin is such a posh/ affectionate fencing fits him so well.

I want Desire and Edwin to meet so badly (Desire would so LOVE to torture them (I love my little blorbo so much he's adorable that's why I want him to suffer💗)). I like the fics where Desire helps the boys to figure things out but also speaking about canon Desire, they are a menace, a meeting with them would be so angsty. They are gods they don't really care for mortals, they would love to cause drama and angst. They would love to torture this repressed (although he is a bit more comfortable now he's still more of a stiff person in general) sad boy that has so much yearning and so much drama potential between him and his best friend.

Yucky already said he wants to bring them in season 2 I'm sooo waiting for this drama I just know it's going to be good.

Rewatching Gumball is knowing that while there is no actual real overarching plot the episodes are still so amazingly interconnected.

I love how they do foreshadowing, how they build on little moments that we see through out other episodes. It's Banana joe's mom's future paintings being a small joke in "The Shell". Rob being in the deleted place with all the forgotten things in "The Void" after we see that Gumball and Darwin have a hard time remembering him and then completely forget him once Darwin kicks him into the sewers a whole season earlier in "The Pony". He then literally still has parts of the void ingrained in his design when he comes back. It's the fact that Penny and her family being hollow shells with something inside was being played as haunting jokes for episodes before the one based entirely around it. It's the fact that characters like Sarah have always been a little fourth wall breaky and so an episode like "The Fan Fiction" is so completely in line with her character that it's unremarkable in context, hell there's an episode where she sings the ending song to end the show and avoid an awkward conversation her being able to take some control of the show feels like the natural evolution of that.

The background characters in gumball have such distinct personalities that have been pretty consistent and built upon since season 2 which is completely insane and unprecedented for an episodic 2010 children's cartoon. The show might not have had an arc but it has always been continuous.

You do really get the sense that this is a world where everyone is very hyper-aware of the rules in which they operate. The show might reset at the end of the episode but the people don't

A reminder that “character covers” of songs created by sampling the voice actor’s actual lines are still essentially ai and are stealing from the original voice actors. Please respect the actors. There are currently huge strikes going on in Hollywood not in small part because Hollywood refuses to agree that they will not use ai of the actors and writers work, which includes similar situations like voice work.

If you want to play with making a character sing songs, I recommend looking into Vocaloid! All voice banks are already created AND the actors fully consented to their voices being used like this.

I've been seeing some fanart and content of the Magician Jester and the Poet Jester in the GOB community, so I decided to make my own designs for them as well, along with adding some changes to Bittergiggle's design

I decided that the Magician and Poet would also be added to my Garten of Banban AU, which I hope to make a reference for soon when I get to know the characters and the game better. (It's an AU where the monsters actually get to teach and care for children, living their purposes and dream lives they wish they had in the original game)

In my AU, Magic and Poet would be two of Bittergiggle's cousins, who don't always stick around the Kindergarten, but they do visit for special events.

The Magician is pretty extroverted and confident and loves attention.

The Poet is introverted and reserved, but he enjoys sharing his poetry.

And they both enjoy annoying and insulting each other. But together they balance each other out.

They also have this rivalry where they try to one-up each other. The Magician revels in teasing the Poet, which gets on the Poet's nerves, but the Magician just finds it fun to mock Poet's poetry and call them boring to get under his cousin's skin. Be careful Magician, otherwise you might face some "poetic justice..."

Also I gave them names, but they aren't really official right now. As of now, their names are:

Poet: Rhymequill

Magician: Sparkledust/Sparkleblast

So uh- Yea, it's already established, but remember- They are cousins. They are family

I know that the reason Sonic uses a lot of English phrases in Japanese is because that's a culturally "cool" thing to do in Japan (at least in fiction), and it's not something English dubs have ever tried to replicate, but honestly I think it would've been a fun trait to carry over regardless. In fact, I say we should be increasing the number of languages Sonic is pulling out at random

Like, just take all the instances of him using English in the original script and start cycling through different languages. Think of how many different ways he could say "yes" or "no way" or "are you alright". It'd be hilarious

"But how would anyone understand him" You canNOT tell me that all of Sonic's English quips would be understood by everyone, either. No way does Japanese Knuckles know what "wow, what a great view" means off the top of his head, and he doesn't care because he's trying to pummel him in that scene anyway

Tails understands him perfectly, though. He's used to it by now

Since end of the year approaches decided to redraw the bad touch trio to see how I've improved.

Been thinking, I think Francis and Gilbert are the type of people to call others by names they think match their language's "translation" (if there's one they can come up with) and/or with their language's pronounciation despite others telling them it's not their name (calling Gilbert (Jeel-Bèr) or Antonio Antoine (An-toa-ne) or Francis Franz respectively) But I think Gilbert calls Antonio, Tonio all of the time.

Also yeah, can't get over that precise performance of Les rois du monde SPECIFICALLY because i think they match my hcs for french France, Spain, Prussia VAs (Damien Sargue, Olivier Dion and David Bàn, in that order, if you'd like to listen to them singing, it's here) (they play in a les 3 mousquetaires muscial as Aramis, D'Artagnan and Porthos respectively which I think is perfect really....) (Sketched the fighting with the actors matching each, it was fun)
