What are your favorite and least favorite soups?

in general i dislike soups that are all blended together, although the obvious answer is "whatever the little old anglican ladies keep pretending is soup on pancake night". i'm not really sure about my favourite soups tbh im kinda more in the stew camp (thickening stuff with grains and spatzel is my deal)

Silly Game Time: What's a food (a dish or a snack) you personally consider to be comfort food? Not necessarily your favorite, but one that makes you feel content.

For me, it's gnocchi tossed with fried vegetables and parmesean cheese.

Gnocchi is soooo good that honesty sounds so good.

I would say for me home made chicken schnitzel with spatzel with gravy. Very German lol. I have lots of good memories associated with it and it's a fire meal!

i dreamed I had a really unstable and dangerous mentally ill boyfriend named John who I met in a psych ward. (i have a lot of dreams about psych wards?). the dream felt really related to one I had about 7 years ago about being in jail with a man with the last name Spatzel.

i have three main differences i think of between soups and stews. a stew has to have all three, i think?

1) a stew must have opaque liquid

2) a stew must have thickened liquid

3) a stew must have big chunks

some examples of soups that lack parts:

broccoli cheddar soup (opaque, thick, no/small chunks) is a soup

hot and sour soup (transparent, thick, small chunks) is a soup

chicken spatzel soup (transparent, thin, big chunks) is a soup

to me the prototypical stew is beef stew, thickened with mashed potato, with chunks of meat and vegetables that are nearly too large to be a comfortable single mouthful

the soup poll AKA where are the chunks?

occasionally when discussing lunches and dinners and other such wonders i get the feeling when i say "Soup" i mean another persons definition of "Stew", and our communication is somewhat skewed. please tell me how you identify your wet meals

Oh hell no I said when they posted a Facebook post about having Chicken Paprikas with Mashed Potato NOT. I thought this a Albanian thing, it's not Chicken Paprikas without Hungarian Egg Noodle Dumplings – Nokedli (Spaetzle). All the waitress told them also, so I jumped in the car to try. I was totally blown away, this be the real deal on a mega bed of Spaezle made in house. A new cook fresh off the boat from Hungarian, he's a keeper got mad skills. You need to let him make more special dishes from Hungarian that's well known Downriver. The sauce spot-on definitely authentic, tender Chicken Thighs and Leg's fall off the bone. She had great bowl of Soup and the Smothered Chicken always a winner. HELLO IT IS MY TIME!

Pasta and noodles are NOT the same thing and can be boiled down to (no pun intended) the idea that udon and ramen noodles are NOT pasta. All pasta is noodles but not all noodles are pasta. Spatzel is not a pasta it is a potato noodle from Germany. Gnocchi IS a pasta based on region, prep, and the likelihood of semolina flour.

Lemme get my phylogeny of pasta hold tight.

I propose that pasta is a subsection of European based noodles that involve such characteristics as but not exclusive to: location, preparation, type of flour and use of semolina flour. My personal categories include if the dish is soup based or not soup based to include the possibilities of instant noodles. A can of Campbells Chicken Noodle soup does not contain pasta ya know?

Pasta can also be a dish and noodles are the individual strand, but again a pasta dish is probably using pasta. A singular spaghetti is a noodle, but it is still pasta. And before people tell about ravioli it’s the DOUGH and that is pasta.

Surely there's a finite amount of people on Tumblr who give a shit about my noodle vs pasta thing. Surely we've nearly hit that finite number. My activity is full of self assured essays by people who are wrong
