Different Italian anon, but the thing with Tuscan C is that it's pronounced like a very strong H sound, which is extra weird cuz the letter H makes no sound in Italian, normally. It sounds the way Spanish pronounce the J. We say it's "aspirato". So then people from there will say things like Hoha Hola (coca cola), and it's funny. It's also extremely contagious, I got family in Florence, you spend 3 days with them you start doing it too before you even realize.
.
#that sounds really endearing actually#answered#anonymous#this is entirely beside the point but I still feel sort of bamboozled by languages that have silent letters#or when letters have multiple pronunciations that vary wildly from word to word#and when the sound and the letter don't seem to match like how J sounds very close to H in Spanish like you mentioned#I'm generalizing a little but none of these are really a thing in Finnish#in Finnish words are pretty much always pronounced the way they are written if that makes sense#I don't know the language terminology but I think phonetic spelling is what you call it#each letter represents a specific sound and you string those together#when you hear a word you can always tell how it's written and when you read a word you know how to pronounce it#even if you're encountering the word for the first time and have no idea what it means#it's comparatively direct and predictable there's practically no need for guessing or memorizing#also the stress is always on the first syllabe and it's so subtle it might as well not be there at all#which sometimes makes spoken Finnish and Finnish accent sound kind of monotonous there isn't a lot of intonation#I was extremely confused by the concept of spelling bees as a kid#anyway long tag ramble but this stuff is just interesting to me

Can you please do a Yandere!Catherine of Aragon from "The Spanish Princess" (I really loved Charlotte Hope's portrayal of her) with Only Son!Reader (platonic) love letter? Maybe where the Reader is betrothed to a foreign princess and is 8 years old(? You can choose his age) when the divorce was finalized and Henry dotes on the reader's every need.
My dear boy,
I write this letter with all my mother's love, hoping that I find you well and in good health. My soul rejoices at the thought of you, my precious son. How I wish I was by your side right now, watching you grow, educating you and sharing our moments together. I feel compelled to express how much your absence tears my soul apart.
Despite the circumstances that separated us, know, my son, that I have never diminished the love I have for you. You are the light that illuminates my world, the inspiration that keeps me uplifted in the darkest moments.
I am afraid I won't be there to witness your growth, to share a mother's wise advice, but I fully trust the greatness that lives within you. May your heart always be guided by kindness, compassion and wisdom. I trust your father will raise you well.
My greatest hope is that you are learning, growing, and becoming a man of virtue, wisdom, and compassion. I pray every day for your happiness and success, my dear son.
Your character, your strength, and your wisdom are sources of pride for me, even if I can't witness them in person. May your choices be guided by honor, respect and justice, always keeping the flame of our lineage alive.
Please know that even in the face of adversity, I am always by your side in thought and heart. May God bless and protect you, my beloved son. May these words meet you with the same tenderness with which I write them, and may you know that you will always be the center of my love and my prayers.
With all my love and longing,
Catherine of Aragon.

Hey y'all! So I am still in touch with the kidlet I used to babysit, and last time we talked I used (what I am pretty sure was) slang that is more his generation than mine and he initially laughed a little, then I could visibly see him process that I was the one who'd said it and he started giggling uncontrollably and repeating what I'd said, so of course I want to learn more slang I can drop in conversation with him We were playing Stardew Valley and I killed a skeleton or something, and he said "Skeletons will die if you hit them with swords" so I said "skill issue" (or something like that? it's been a few days I could have a few words wrong, but I definitely said skill issue and he was not expecting it) So yeah any more modern but not tumblr-specific slang y'all can recommend I drop into conversation with an elementary schooler to make them laugh at the idea of a grown up using slang?
#the person behind the yarn#his reaction was so funny I instantly wanted to learn more modern slang#both so I can use it correctly in conversation with him#but also so I can use it incorrectly sometimes#because I think correcting my slang usage would be both good for him from a learning perspective#in that he would have to figure out how to articulate why the usage was wrong#and absolutely hilarious for both him and I#and his parents definitely Do Not Do modern slang#they aren't like...against it? or anything? they just don't encounter it#and when he was little bitty and I was teaching him some sign language and some Spanish#they did not learn either language at all so I think languages just aren't their thing#(I taught him some sign language because he did not like sitting still and it was a way to work on letters when he was little)#(and Spanish because it came up in conversation and he asked)

San Sebastian, Federico García Lorca, 1927
“Let us agree,” Federico Garcia Lorca wrote, “that one of man’s most beautiful postures is that of St. Sebastian.” “In my ‘Saint Sebastian’ I remember you,” Salvador Dali replied to Garcia Lorca, referring to the essay on aesthetics that Dali had just written, “. . . and sometimes I think he is you. Let’s see whether Saint Sebastian turns out to be you.”
The two men had a “tragic, passionate relationship,” Dali once wrote—a friendship pierced by the arrows of Saint Sebastian.

“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!” - Man of La Mancha
Painting: from the picture book «Don Quixote» by Svetlin Vassilev
This quote is often incorrectly attributed to Miguel Cervantes book Don Quixote but it is actually from the musical "Man from la Mancha" from 1965, which is based on Cervantes book.

my beef with ipa comes down to the fact that i simply do not like, conceptually, that there is a contrived writing system intended to capture every single sound in human language. i would much rather just mix scripts (like throwing a fully english word into a korean sentence and vice versa) i UNDERSTAND why we don't (thus i can forgive romanization etc [to a degree]) and i also understand why in academic contexts such a writing system is quite valuable.
in actual life, however, there is simply no need to represent all those sounds, and you're simply better off learning the native scripts of languages whose influence you encounter frequently
#the thing is we literally DO script mix when it comes to other languages based off the latin script#like ñ does not exist in english#and we certainly could spell it phonetically as ny (like in tagalog) or gn (like in italian)#and we DON'T we chose to learn and incorporate the spanish ñ#of course when you get into structurally different writing systems like hangul which use a syllable block#you can't just accept an individual letter#and so again i can forgive romanization i just don't like it#but if you're going to be frequently encountering korean words literally just put in the 3 hours it takes to learn to read it#and save yourself a headache#anyway death to ipa#thank you for coming to my ted talk

Despised and Rejected
3 People made fun of him, and even his friends left him. He was a man who suffered a lot of pain and sickness. We treated him like someone of no importance, like someone people will not even look at but turn away from in disgust.
4 The fact is, it was our suffering he took on himself; he bore our pain. But we thought that God was punishing him, that God was beating him for something he did. 5 But he was being punished for what we did. He was crushed because of our guilt. He took the punishment we deserved, and this brought us peace. We were healed because of his pain. 6 We had all wandered away like sheep. We had gone our own way. And yet the Lord put all our guilt on him. — Isaiah 53:3-6 | Spanish Blue Red and Gold Letter Edition Bible (SRV-BRG) and Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) Spanish Blue Red and Gold Letter Edition ™ Bible (SRV-BRG) Copyright © 2012/2015 BRG Bible Ministries. Give me your solitude, or better, the space between your lips, the skin of a thigh, something to cover me. The gesture that flows from desire, something solid, graspable, exterior, something yours to prop up my rootlessness.

After watching the episode I thought about making this drawing, I really loved it and it's a shame that the characters will most likely not appear again, but I'll leave my puzzle piece here and wonder if anyone else drew something similar, but if not, would you also be interested in making drawings placing your puzzle pieces?
#one piece#one piece fan letter#I tried to do the drawing as soon as I finished the episode but even though I drew it 3 times#I couldn't get it how I wanted so I left it for the next day in the end it took me a long time#to do something simple :c but in the end it came out so it's okay#The sweatshirt says duck in Spanish
