Is this blog dead??

No? Probably not? Almost certainly not! Just sleeping. ...okay, sleeping for quite a bit longer than it should have been.

Aside from various personal stuffs going on in my life (the majority of which is never going to be mentioned in this blog), we kinda had an election last year. I put a lot of energy into pre-election activities, and then... well, for several months I basically couldn’t tolerate looking at any formerly-enjoyable hobbies because I was terrified I would lock myself in a closet with them and never come out.

(That’s only almost an exaggeration. I work from home; my office is a converted closet.)

I have come to terms with the idea that, if WWIII doesn’t kick off in the next few weeks and climate shifts don’t wipe out my coastline next winter, I’ll only have to deal with our president trying to rob the poorest 80% of the country to line his own pockets while our vice-pres tries to institute the Republic of Gilead... and wow, I am so ready to dive into a simple, comforting story of a pack of kids and trolls trying to manipulate their lives and maybe kill them.

Squirrels are vastly more harmful to the world's power grids than "the cyber" is

Of 1700+ known acts of global power-grid sabotages, affecting some 5,000,000 people, 879 were caused by squirrels; between 0 and 1 were caused by Russia, and another 1 was caused by the USA (Stuxnet).

The data was presented in a Shmoocon talk last week by Cris "SpaceRogue" Thomas, who looked at 35 years' worth of power-grid disruption and concluded that Ted Koppel knows shit-all about cybersecurity, despite having written a (hysterical) book about it.

Thomas runs a project called Cybersquirrel1, which tracks power-outages caused by critters (as well as the rare, rare instances in which they are caused by infowar operatives).
