Usually the people speaking with “fake” concern about Darren’s weight or that he looks sad are just trying to get traction for their theory that darren is unhappy cause he’s in the closet. It’s exhausting seeing that crap. That being said, I think Darren looks awesome! Yeah he’s not as ripped as he was during hedwig but that’s just natural because of how much he was doing in that role. I am excite!
Heck I thought he was more ripped in ACS Versace but that’s me. No matter, he’s always been a little dude, Concern Police can bite me.

spacelyspace replied to your post “Why don't you like Chris Hardwick?”
I just hate that his biases are extremely clear and he beats them into us. He brings up stuff deliberately to put other characters down and always builds up his favorites for no reason. He changes the subject on good character conversations to make uncomfortable jokes or just make stupid observations. I can't watch talking dead at all anymore. Even though I enjoy a lot of the cast conversations.
Yes, I agree 100%. I get the guests having obvious biases but for the host to have his so damn out in the open really rubs me the wrong way and stunts the conversation. You’re absolutely right there have been many interesting conversations and comments from his guests that he totally just ruins or ignores. It’s like the dude doesn’t believe in critical or intelligent conversation, he just wants to sound like frat boy who has yet to realize he’s 45 not 20.

Are You Now or Have You Ever Been
@spacelyspace requested this episode, saying it was one of her favorites. It’s one of mine too, so thank you for asking me to review this!
AYNOHYEB is perhaps the most perfect Angel episode ever. It has amazing direction, amazing production, amazing acting, amazing writing, amazing soundtrack, amazing casting, amazing everything. It’s in my top 10 favorite Angel episodes.
I think I’ll explain, point by point, what I find compelling in this episode.
First of all, there’s the story in the present. As it happens with much of seasons 1 and 2, Cordelia and Wesley are the comic relief and ground the flashbacks to the present. They research the hotel and guide the story. I think it works wonderfully because it gives the characters focus, screen time and injects humor into the episode, balancing it out. I particularly like the scenes at the hotel when they’re trying to kill the demon. Gunn and Wesley bicker and Angel, as usual, is stuck as the “father” of the group, which is one of my favorite dynamics. In the beginning, Wesley looked up to Angel and valued his opinion. I find it sweet and amusing that when the demon (don’t really remember its name) told Wes that he was particularly paranoid, Wesley didn’t rest until Angel said he wasn’t:
Wesley: "Angel, you don't find me...especially paranoid, do you?" Angel: "Not especially."
I have to give kudos to the costume and set department for the exquisite job they did with the hotel and the period stuff. Angel looks particularly good!
I think it’s interesting when Tim Minear set the story, at the time of McCarthyism, racist, homophobia, etc. It was the perfect place for a paranoia demon to put down roots. Secrets abound in the hotel: the male, gay prostitute (or so it appeared), Judy and her secrets (her race and the money), etc. The flashbacks can’t be longer than 25min and still the story is so rich! The bellhop and the manager stand out particularly in terms of side characters. Two morally corrupt people that the paranoia demon takes advantage of easily.
I really do like Judy’s character, especially in the present. This story is set about 20 years after Angel rescues a puppy (Orpheus), turns a soldier in the submarine (Why We Fight) and 40 years before he drinks from the dinner owner (Orpheus). Considering the timeline, Angel’s state of mind makes perfect sense. He was lonely, tormented and trying to keep out of society. Naturally, Judy and her insistence in befriending him interest Angel. He finds himself wanting to help. He did help someone when he rescued a lady’s puppy, but that time he wasn’t strong enough to control himself and sent the woman away. This time, he helps Judy as an act of friendship, and perhaps she was his first “friend” ever, It’s quite sad when she betrays him due to her fear of being caught and the influence of the paranoia demon.
I confess that the first time I watched the episode, I expected Angel to kill the demon and save the day. However, it’s a lot more interesting and shocking when he doesn’t. It’s chilly when Angel turns to the paranoia demon and tells him to take everybody. It works as a preview of the Angel we’ll see in the upcoming episodes, especially in Reunion when he traps the lawyers in the cellar. Even Angel looses his faith in humanity and before he met Buffy, he didn’t have much faith to begin with.
I think Tim Menear could’ve ended the story there, but he decided that Angel and old Judy should meet in the presence. I quite liked that decision. Judy was very moving and it was a chance to show how much Angel has changed. Kudos to David Boreanaz for portraying so much warmth and forgiveness in present Angel. I shed a few tears when Judy died with her hand in Angel’s. ("I'm just going to rest. Just for a minute and then I'm going to go out." *tears*)
Angel finally kills the paranoia demon and decides to move in into the hotel. it just goes to show how strong Angel is, to surround himself with shameful memories, of literal and figurative demons. However, like Angel, the hotel is not evil anymore. Kudos again to Tim Minear for making the hotel feel like a real entity that represents Angel.
100/10. Fenomenal episode!
Send me a BtVS/AtS episode and I’ll give you my brutally honest opinion

Could be different for the show but this is what google gave me @spacelyspace
I just googled how old Will is, and the first result I got was his age, as well as his age difference with Hannibal. Wow how dare they assume I was checking the age gap and not casually looking up his age for casual not ship related reasons. How could they be so horribly wrong ahahaha

spacelyspace replied to your post: Darren vs. Cunanan...
I think my ability to dissociate actors from their characters is by how much of a fan of them I am. With Darren it’s really easy because I watch him in everything! I watch his interviews, his concerts, his shows, his fan interactions, etc. So it’s almost like watching a friend or family member. So I can appreciate that he’s doing an excellent job, but still differentiate. If it’s an actor I know nothing about, I usually have a bit harder time unless I watch them in real life situations.
spacelyspace replied to your post: Darren vs. Cunanan...
I don’t think it says anything negative about someone if they can be excited for and appreciate someone’s performance, even if that performance is showing them do horrible things. It’s when you start sexualizing or fantasizing or admiring the specific acts themselves that it starts to get into some iffy territory I think.
It may depend on what is sexualized. Some saw the dancing as menacing, I couldn’t help but giggle (again DAMN YOU PHIL COLLINS). And the junk in the gifs...well it IS sort of mesmerizing, especially as the gifs are pulled away from the context of the scene.
I guess in the end the dissociation is a good thing...probably because in this case I just know him so well (I mean as much as a fan can).

@mintysmoothie your Vienna video is so brilliantly edited and a wonderful tribute to the show! I’ve got chills… thank you for making it!! ❤
Thanks so much! 😀 Vienna’s become one of my favorite songs and I’m glad ACS introduced me to it (plus it fits so perfectly with the show).

Orpheus
This episode was requested by @spacelyspace. Thanks!
So, Orpheus, that episode in which Willow is actually a badass instead of the scared sidekick she’s in Buffy. And Orpheus, the episode in which the Fangel BROTP (or ship for some) is particularly strong. Orpheus, the drug that takes down Angelus and Faith..
I’ll start right away with the negatives and say that Cordelia is the worst part of this episode (and season 4 in general). However, even she’s written with a bit more humor that usual (”I bit my tongue.”).
On to the good stuff! This episode can be split up in two.
There’s the outside world stuff: Willow being absolutely amazing, Willow and Wesley connecting, Willow and Fred sort of flirting, Lorne being a sweetheart with Faith, Connor being concerned with Faith, Connor trying to kill Angelus, Cordelia telling Connor about their baby while a chilling piece plays in the background, Angel and Faith thanking each other and almost hugging (they really, really wanted to, but it would hurt their imagine).
Then, there’s the best part, that goes on inside Angelus and Faith’s minds, which are connected. Orpheus is one of the best Angel centric episodes of the series even if Angel is mostly absent. We see Angel come to the USA for the first time, rescue a puppy, listen to Barry Manilow with a particularly bad haircut, drink from a man, retreat into an alley for 20 years with another terrible haircut... And we learned all of this while listening to Faith and Angelus’ hilarious and informative commentary. (”Then, I'm whatever... dust in the wind. Candle in the wind. There'll be a general wind theme.”, ”Dude! You rescued a puppy!”, “Mandy, huh? Must kill you he's got a jones for the power-ballads.”, “Angel, it's good to see you. Hate the hair.”). Have I mentioned I love Faith?
Angelus takes pride in being inside Angel’s head, forcing him to drink. This episode implies that Angelus exists inside Angel. I, however, disagree, and interpret this episode as Angelus being forced to live through memories of Angel’s humanity and the feelings associate with them because Angelus and Angel shares minds and know what each feels and thinks.
It is my opinion that Angelus doesn’t exist inside Angel. Angelus is created when the demon possesses Liam’s body and mind and rules it in the absence of the soul. Angelus is created by the demon’s essence which creates a new persona based on Liam/Angelus/Angel’s memories, feelings, personality, etc. Angel is created when the soul rules the body and mind, and the demon (which isn’t Angelus) takes the backseat. Angelus is a different person from Angel so they don’t inhabit the same body. After all, if Angelus is the lack of soul, then how can Angelus exist within in an ensouled being (Angel)? Doesn’t make sense. What Angelus, the pure demon, is taking credit for, is how the demon’s bloodlust (present in Angel and Angelus) influences and torments Angel.
So, to me, it doesn’t make much sense when Angelus and Angel fight each other. Are we to believe that part of Angel is being controlled by the soul and part isn’t because the soul isn’t yet completely inside the body (Willow was still battling Cordelia.)? I guess I can believe that? In Becoming, Angel didn’t get a soul instantly...
I enjoyed seeing Faith lose hope and nearly give up. She was in a similar state in Five by Five except this time she wants to acquit herself by dying for Angel. However, as Angel tells her: “Our time is never up, Faith. We pay for everything.”.
Also, before you ask, I love Connor so seeing him be beat down by Faith wasn’t the best part of the episode! However, I did like how Faith shrugged Connor’s actions off easily. (”All right. I get it. I messed up.”/”Hey, cheer up, punk. That just makes you one of us.”).
So, 9/10? Or perhaps 8.5/10 because of Cordelia?
Send me a BtVS/AtS episode and I’ll give you my brutally honest opinion

Patrick Melrose is 1000% relevant to anyone that’s...
I’m sorry your fav didn’t win, but leave this stuff out of the Darren tag. I think Benny is extremely overrated and a bore to watch but I don’t post that in his tag now do I?
I didn’t mean for it to end up in the Criss tag, I thought that if I had it in line with a sentence in the tagging system, it wouldn’t go in the tag.
However, you don’t need to be a condescending rude asshole. If you see something you don’t like, scroll past it or block me. It wasn’t just about ‘my fave not winning’ as you so demeaningly put it. there are a lot of people on this site as well as other sites that saw their own sexual/verbal/emotional/physical abuse and could identify with the main character in the freefall of his actions and behavior as he was hitting rock bottom as well as hope of coming to terms with it and recovering in hopes of being a better person. THAT’S why I think it should have won and so should Cumberbatch.

CONNOR: Why are you doing this? Why? God gave me to you.
HOLTZ: Yes. It was god's plan for us to be together. Nothing will ever persuade me otherwise. But now it's time for me to give you back.
CONNOR: He's a demon.
HOLTZ: And you're the bastard son of two demons.
CONNOR: Then I'm a demon.
HOLTZ: You're not. God help me, I don't know what you are, but I'm not the one to give you answers, and there *are* answers. Go and find them out.

I’ve read it! It really helps with understanding what’s going on! It’s a really interesting and good read, definitely recommend. They are definitely hitting on alot of the things that she mentions and researched in the book. :)
Awesome!! Yeah - I’ve already noticed things they took out of the book and put in the first episode. Context is lovely :)

@spacelyspace “saggy testicle face”...😂😂😂😂 oh shit, damn. I’m feeling the heat from that burn.
I had a feeling if they did kill Carl they would definitely spread his story around, most likely to give Daryl something to do.
The writing is what’s killing me the most. If this first half had been better written and actually earned, I’d be less pissed over Carl’s death. Yeah, he was the future, but I always cared (sorry) about Rick more. So I’m sticking around as long as Rick and Michonne are still live. I’m too invested in them to quit at this point. Until one or the other dies, I’m going to push forward. Though I realize I may come to regret that decision depending on the resolution of this season, because while this may suck, Gimple still has 8 more episodes to make this show suck even more.
I was already mad about Carl being dead but this just takes the cake. This makes absolutely no fucking sense. The only person who should be getting CARL’S storylines is CARL. NOT ANYBODY ELSE. You kill him to not only keep Negan alive but also keep stale, boring and characters who don’t move the story AT ALL relevant (I’m looking at you Daryl) It’s dumb and I’m 99% sure it won’t work or be believable. Enid wouldn’t work and I really don’t want to see that and Judith is way too young for that. Everybody wants Negan dead then all of a sudden they want him alive? Yeah that makes absolutely perfect sense after he killed 3 of there people, cause the death of others, almost killed Rick’s child, obviously wants Rick dead, kidnapped and tortured one, then kidnapped another, super fucking creepy towards Maggie and Rosita, and destroyed their home. Is Rick going to become their father too? Are they going to wear the hat? The Walking Dead is becoming a fucking joke.

spacelyspace replied to your post: A thought about one of the screener spoilers:
Andrew and David did date and sleep together in real life. David ended it but they were in a relationship.
The La Jolla party scene made it seem like he was trying to impress him/win his heart. I guess that may have been post-break-up-but-stay-friends and all of this episode is trying to get him back?
I just get the feeling that if they showed Andrew with David, that it would be a pretty nice loving scene...one that would create more sympathy/empathy. That’s not what they want in telling the story. When David said the penthouse was set up just like their date in San Francisco, that may have been projecting for the audience. They’ve already taken creative liberties, and I just think any sex scene with Andrew will be him as a gigolo/sugar baby...if there even is one. Just a prediction.
