It's genuinely sad to me that some non-Russian comrades here love and appreciate Soviet/Russian punk and post-punk more than the younger generation in my own country.
I don't even know who upsets me more, kids (actually one of them is just a couple years younger than me so it baffles me even more) who don't even know who Letov or Tsoy are, or the ones who say their songs sound shitty or make no sense. You have no idea what you're talking about, do you, you little tiktok addicted cunt.
sorry that was mean of me.
Here's a beautiful song by Yanka Dyagileva, one of the most prominent figures of the Siberian underground scene. She wasn't the most public person and her tragic early passing is riddled with conspiracies, but the most important thing about her is the raw talent in her poetry and the instantly recognizable voice.

I have never ever heard anything that could sound like soviet punk. And since similar things sometimes are evoked by much more modern music on the post soviet scene, reaching as far as to synth-pop and so many different genres across not just Russia alone, I think it's that thing we actually do carry in ourselves despite having very different views on our countries, on USSR, on our past and present.
It's that same feeling the panel apartment buildings can't help but evoke. That fucking doomer aesthetic if you wanna call it that.
It might not be the most beautiful and clean and positive thing in the world, but it feels so much more patriotic (even though I'm not and I don't think I ever will be) than whatever that hitler jugend looking lapdog popstar they're shoving down our throats is spewing. It's the March snow with black dots on its spongy surface. It's the foggy cigarette breath under yellow windows of panel houses. It's the liminal underground passage with a basking guitarist singing Letov's words that are jumping off the echoy walls.
November splin's getting to me, isn't it.
UPD. I am not touching on the contents of soviet punk/post-punk deliberately, because there's too much to unpack and we would spend the whole day here. Today is just vibes appreciating day.

Er what
Tumblr media
Not exactly antisemitism but I was running over a blog's search of what they said about apartheid (and its inevitable comparisons with Israel) and a showcase of leftist brainrot
ID:
A screenshot saying: here is probably ONE thing Soviet Russia did right and ARGUABLY BETTER than anyone else in the entire world in the past 100 years of human history: ANIMATION.
Other says:
i would say their funding and material support of antiapartheid groups in south africa is a little more important but this is tumblr so i expect nothing from you people.
https://gardengnosticator.tumblr.com/post/751884453312348160/i-would-say-their-funding-and-material-support-of
I doubt the Soviets' funding of anti-apartheid groups are as noble as those tankies think
Nobody tell OP they were funding those groups to cause a revolution in American Allied country and destabilize the region.
And OOP is objectively correct, any empire can create a puppet state, Soviet animation and film was the same 100 people over and over and they were really good at their jobs.
Soviet Animation had paper dolls and stop motion and hand painted backgrounds and is frankly the one way USSR was actually better than America in literally anything besides sending a bunch of dogs into space. Not even necessarily getting them all safely back either.
(BTW the main engineer who sent Yuri Gagarin into space was a Russian Jew. Gagarin’s second words after his famous first words ever spoken in space “It’s beautiful up here”, was to thank the man. This thank you was censored by the Soviets because they’d rather die than admit a Jewish engineer put the first man in space)
capitalist dog?! Op the Soviet Union would treat you like a dog, the ones they sent into space, so maybe watch some “Hedgehog in the fog” and shut your ignorant Western goy mouth

Translated this via google translate, will post original in reblog.
Also fyi this image likely predates the 80s meaning it’s probably from the time before goth and that skinhead culture wasn’t appropriated by n*zis yet so the skinhead in this photo going by his features is likely black. Just a lil disclaimer.
