Southwick Hill Royal Observer Corps Post

Up on the Sussex Downs, a stones throw away from the busy A27, lies the former Royal Observer Corps post on Southwick Hill.

The post was opened in 1962 and closed in 1968 (source: Subbrit)

The post is still visible today although the hatch has been sealed with concrete so there’s no access down below. The fencing too has been left to nature and all that remains is the gate and a few posts.

I’d really love to be able to preserve this site but I don’t know who owns it these days. It would be good to be able to do something, not only as part of our local history, but also to preserve the memory of the people who served there.

Happy Spooky Times! We decorated our house for Halloween a week ago, so here are a couple of pictures showcasing what's out front. :) Mostly plastic tablecloth ghosts, as you can see -- and if you're wondering what the white stuff on the porch is, it's cheesecloth torn up a bit to look like spiderweb! We got inspired by our trip to Southwick Zoo a couple weeks ago, where they'd done a similar thing around the park to decorate for the season. Both easier to clean up and safer for the local wildlife than the traditional sticky stretchy stuff! :)

I just want to appreciate Jaden's facial expressions in this scene because the first time I saw this, I just thought she was scared for her father. Now we know she was scared of what she did and thinking about the consequences.
