Yeah I had a nightmare the other night that despite a whole undergrad degree and three years of grad school, my high school diploma was suddenly revoked and I had to go back and take another class

I also frequently find dream-me in trying to perform marching band shows I don’t know

omg at getting a hs diploma revoked. that really is terrifying. 

i wonder if music (orchestra for me and band for you) was such a huuuge part of our hs experience that there’s no way it won’t permeate as many dreams as it can. but why can’t it ever be good and pleasant dreams though D:

Replying to the replies on my reading slump post

@sometimesreading​, I don’t own any graphic novels. I still have a couple of weeks left on my Kindle Unlimited trial so I can see if they have any. If so, it’ll work for both a graphic novel and reading in a different format. I think the last graphic novel I read was Nevermore, an adaption of Poe’s short stories. Or maybe Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. I think I read them around the same time.

@moonmean​, I live in a very small town and we don’t have any bookstores here. The closest one is over an hour away and as much as I would love to wander around in one, I don’t have the money or time to go to one.  My library lacks inspiration and is limited in their books. I’ve always had to get the books from other libraries. And I just don’t have the money to put into gas to go just to look around. I miss living in bigger cities. I could catch the bus to Barnes and Noble or Borders and spend hours walking around. A local bookstore would be great too, those have such a great atmosphere. If I get a chance to visit one, I will definitely do what you suggested!

@miss-southernerd​, Are some of the books you suggested fantasy? I think some of them are. I think I do need something like that. I will have to go through my books and see if I have any fantasy. I’m limited to what I own right now, so I can’t get any of the ones you mentioned. A change from what I normally read, classics and contemporary, might help me get back into the groove of things.

@kandidlyrandom​, I have poetry collections for Keats and Blake, so I could look into those. I have a collection of short stories from Poe and Hemingway, so I will check those out. I’m more likely to respond to short stories. I love poetry, but I feel that reading collections of them isn’t as much as fun. I can’t seem to hold on to enough of them the same way I can hold onto a story. 

@petrareads​, Implementing a certain amount of time read or maybe even pages read could work. I think starting out low like you mentioned would be a great way to go. Sometimes you just have to get started so you can reach the interesting part.

@brettlyburkeen​, How do you focus on just the audio? When I’m reading a physical book I have to start pages over because I happened to be thinking of other things while I’m reading, so I’m either not getting any of it or just pieces. I usually use music to help me focus. I don’t know how I would do that with an audiobook or what to do with my eyes. I also tend to reread passages or anything I couldn’t understand, so I would rewind instead? I’m definitely willing to try. Maybe start out with a short one.

@books-and-cookies​, Honestly, I think depression is playing a big role in all of this. It isn’t that reading is feeling like a chore to me, it’s that I’m not interested in anything. I’m re-watching shows because I can’t muster up enough interest for a new one. Basically finding ways to fill my time until I can go back to bed and then sometimes I just stay in bed all day instead. Everything is kind of blah right now. I also have issues with feeling like I am being lazy or just bad feelings if I can’t do anything productive, even if that productive thing is watching something I haven’t seen or playing a new game, just anything to make me feel less redundant. I got problems. I hope the desire for books comes back soon.

Thank you for all of your replies and suggestions. I hope I can take some of this advice and apply it and get back to reading soon.

Aelin yawned. “Good morning, Mamma. What news?”

“Well, it has barely been a week, so of course the town is still abuzz with the news of Feyre and Rhysand’s engagement.”

“I know that, Mamma.” Aelin winked slyly. “We have been fair buzzing about ourselves, discussing wedding details.”

“Of course you have.” Evalin smothered her smirk. “As for the news you wish to hear, Perrington and his aunt are coming to tea this afternoon. I received an affirmation just last evening.”

“Wonderful,” Aelin grinned. “I do hope it proves to be a fruitful meeting.” She and her mother exchanged conspiratorial looks over their teacups.

“Please, sit down. Tell us everything, Janey.” Evalin gestured to one of the chairs.

Jane took a seat, folded her hands atop the table. “You may want to be sitting down yourselves, milady, Miss Aelin.”

They sat and waited, expectantly. Janey cleared her throat. “Well then. Where to start? There is…much to say, my ladies.”

“Is it enough to get rid of Perrington?” Aelin blurted, anxious.

Perrington entered the viscount’s office not twenty minutes later. Rhoe was seated at his desk, his posture straight and unflinching, his gaze like flint.

“Sit.”

Perrington refused, standing a few paces away from the desk. “I do not take orders from you, Galathynius.”

“So good,” Feyre mumbled, her eyes hazy with sex. “I can’t make myself come like that, not ever.”

“You naughty girl,” Rhys purred, his voice like darkest night, “touching yourself late at night in your pretty little bedroom.”

“I think of you,” she smirked, reaching her hand down between her legs, her breath hitching as her fingers ghosted over her core. “Every time. I think of you.”

“Fuck,” he swore, “you’re going to kill me, darling.”

“Oh, I certainly hope not,” she grinned. “For whoever would make love to me then? I remember you promising something about that.”

Her Majesty and the prince approached. Aelin dipped into a formal curtsy as Rowan bowed. [PRINCE’S NAME REDACTED] the Queen announced, “this is Miss Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, the young lady I told you about.”

Prince [BLEEP] bowed formally to Aelin, who gave him her best curtsy. “Miss Galathynius, how lovely to meet you.” He spoke with a lilting accent. He pressed a polite kiss to the back of Aelin’s gloved hand. “If I may, your gown, it is exquisite.”

Unable to control her mirth, Aelin let out a burst of giggles that ended with a delicate snort. In shock, she clapped her free hand over her mouth. “My sincerest apologies, Your Highness, I did not mean--”

“It is no matter,” the prince said, winking ever so subtly at her. “No apologies are necessary.”

The Queen looked affronted. “Perhaps a small one,” she sniffed, herding her nephew off to meet the next marriageable young lady.

Her jaw hanging slightly open, Aelin turned and swatted Rowan’s arm with her fan. “How could you?” She let out another burst of laughter, snorted again, and covered her mouth.

“Me?” Rowan pressed his lips together, smothering the laugh that threatened to escape. “How could you make such an unbecoming sound while laughing?”

“You were the one who made me laugh!”

“By predicting the prince’s commentary?” He grinned. “Ah, Miss Galathynius, you have much to learn about the greetings used by titled men.”

“And I don’t suppose you have a manual for my education?” she snarked.

“Unfortunately, I do not. The book has yet to be written.” Rowan offered his arm once more. “I believe your father is beginning to wonder where you were and why he was not present for your introduction to the most eligible man in town.”

Sighing, Aelin took his arm. “Indeed.”
