Connecting Creative Communities: Bringing together digital artists from Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK.
In October 2018, nine selected digital artists met in Maputo, Mozambique.
This was part of ColabNowNow, a partnership between Maputo Fast Forward & British Council, connecting the creative communities of Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK.
The project inspired collaboration between artists from East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, and the UK.
Over ten days, the nine artists brought their work - representing the best in African and UK digital practice today - to Maputo where they collaborated to create the projects.

#MusicMonday - Mushroom Hour Half Hour presents Richard, the second single from Thabang Tabane’s long awaited debut album
The release of Thabang Tabane’s second single, Richard, on the 31st of August 2018 acts as a precursor to the release of his debut solo album, Matjale, which drops on the 14th of September, 2018 under independent Johannesburg-based record label, Mushroom Hour Half Hour.
For malombo drummer Thabang Tabane, rhythms bear no nationality and heed no gatekeepers. His career up to this point has cast him as a sought after hand drummer in South Africa, collaborating with masters of the country's contemporary and indigenous musical idioms.
While the contemporary and indigenous might be thought of as mutually exclusive, the very core of Tabane's musical precepts serve to counter that antiquated notion.
His second single, Richard, titled after Cameroonian bass player Richard Bona, is a driving slice of updated malombo. A truncated, dubby bassline provides the footing for a nimble, reprised riff that meets its comeuppance in the song's climactic breakdown. Vocally, Tabane inserts himself in the song's meter, teasing out its melodic contours and later decoding its guitar phrases into lyrics about the state of black life in his country.
As for the title, Richard Bona is a philosophical kindred spirit, that space where the elements and the environment are both the music and the inspiration.
