Down on the street

"Throw away your books and go out into the town," said Terayama Shuji.

He doesn't need to tell us that the things we really want to know and the things that are interesting are always lying around in the city.

There are no stores with no style or attitude that are influenced by trends, and I have no use for spoiled places.

From Osaka in the west to Sendai in the north, and Tokyo. Fashion, art, vintage, food, etc.

Going beyond the boundaries of genre, we seek out a new reality and ramble on to the places where stirrings are taking place.

The streets always teach us the important things.

Interior designers take a stand

Following on from "Nepenthes Tokyo", "South2West8" and "Engineered Garments", The interior was designed by GOO FACTORY, a unit consisting of Misao Mochimaru and Osamu Watanabe. He also produced plant-head mannequins and cash register counters inspired by the headdresses of Arab mountain tribes.

The magic of the space is essential to creating the worldview of the shop. There is nothing more boring than a fast fashion shop, which aims to provide uniform service by completely eliminating regional characteristics and individuality.

Nepenthes Osaka, which finally opened last September, is a prime example of a store that goes against the trend and is thoroughly committed to its local character. With white plaster walls, iron ornaments on the windows and gates, tile decorations, and lush greenery, the store had a clear image of a Southern Californian Spanish Colonial style, and it took about two years of hard work to find a location. They finally found their current location next to a park, and created an open space that is different from the Tokyo store.

On the other hand, "Opening Ceremony" strongly emphasizes different images on each floor, such as a futuristic office and a park, based on the concept of a mini mega mall. "We wanted to create a space that has never been seen before. We hope it will act as a catalyst," said Norito Takahashi of "Jamo Associates," who designed the interior. True to his words, each floor is packed with surprising and unique features.

It's just fashion, but it's still fashion. What you buy is important, but where you buy it is just as important. The key to blowing away the stagnant mood may lie in the hands of creators who can create fresh spaces.

SOUTH2 WEST8 x Reebok Zig Kinetica II Edge

Reebok and Japanese clothing brand SOUTH2 WEST8 have announced their first collaborative project, the SOUTH2 WEST8 x Reebok Zig Kinetica II Edge, utilizing technical elements and aesthetics that explore the traditional Japanese fly-fishing method, “Tenkara.” The SOUTH2 WEST8 x Reebok Zig Kinetica II Edge ($170, FZ5857) is available November 5 exclusively from SOUTH2 WEST8 and in Japan before its wider global release on November 18 from Reebok.com and select retailers.

Founded in 2003 by Kaname Nagaoka, SOUTH2 WEST8 develops clothing and gear specifically for “Tenkara” fly fishing, with fashion as a key design element. In collaboration with Reebok, the Sapporo-based clothing store has applied its unique point of view to Reebok’s Zig Kinetica II Edge, a technical, outdoor-inspired modern interpretation of the brand’s iconic Zig sport style shoe.

“We were inspired by a visual of an outdoor field colliding with an urban city and the idea of linking the two,” commented SOUTH2 WEST8’s brand director. “SOUTH2 WEST8 holds little interest in designs that are overly sophisticated or high-tech, in favor of those that are athletically functional. In this respect, the Zig design aptly maintains its functionality, while possessing decorative and assertive elements with great visual volume and presence. These characteristics make it a perfect match for SOUTH2 WEST8 wear.”

The SOUTH2 WEST8 x Reebok Zig Kinetica II Edge features a textile camouflage upper embellished by lush-green suede overlays, a spiky rubber toe cap, green laces, and a green heel loop completing the military-inspired look. At the bottom, a black and grey midsole encapsulates responsive Floatride Fuel cushioning above an anti-slip 30% pre-consumer recycled Vibram Ecostep lugged outsole.

“By incorporating symbolic SOUTH2 WEST8 textile designs, we were able to further enhance the affinity between our two brands,” continued SOUTH2 WEST8. “I think this shoe will be appreciated by people who love the outdoors, by fashion-devotees, and by those who are not satisfied with the same things as everyone around them.”
