Hiya you can call me Soren / Thief till I figure out what my name is. This is the blog of someone who knows very little about themself other than their fandom so expect changes to everything except my level of nerdiness, which will only continue to grow. I aspire to someday be an androgynous, whimsical autumn fairy, but right now I'm only human. Either way, I prefer they/them pronouns.

I'm a virtual assistant by day, aspiring author also by day because sleep is important and I have the bedtime of a grandma despite being in my twenties. I'm not a hater, so please don't come at me with that negativity. I'm trying to keep the vibes good in my little corner of the internet. I ship a lot of ships and I have a lot of headcanons, so be aware of that. You don't have to interact with any that you don't like, but let's keep it positive regardless.

I do take fic and edit requests, and my ask button is always open, so feel free to message me stuff. I will usually try to reply because I'm chronically online. WIP ghost Curt 👀👀 oh, do tell!!!

Ahhh, this one! I’m hoping it might become my Halloween MOTA fic—even though it won’t be spooky at all. Halloween vibes because of the ghosts, but my goal is to write something… funny, I guess? 😅

It’s inspired by this amazing incorrect quote by @sleepy-hyperfixations and a comment by @getinthefuckingjaeger about (and I quote) Curt, who after dying “refused to go up to the Pearly Whites ’cause his BFF is still not getting the dicking he deserves, thus.”

I haven’t written a word yet, but I have a couple of ideas, like:

Angel Gabriel “Gabby” looking like a biblically accurate angel, following Curt everywhere like his Digimon, and making dry, detached, humorous comments about the situation.

Curt tormenting Gale in every possible way because Bucky has made it crystal clear that he loves him, and it’s obvious Buck feels the same, but he’s just so stubborn/scared/shy/stupid. 😩

Some God-related lines that flirt with blasphemy (I’ll definitely need to think about tagging this one). I’m dying to include this bit:

Curt: “Wait, you don’t have a problem with... well, sodomy?” Gabriel: “Ah, that one. The Celestial Being—or as you call Him, the Boss—is still sore about that. He keeps saying He should’ve given humans more holes so they wouldn’t hyperfixate on the rear one. He spent so much time making it enjoyable for everyone, a real universal source of enjoyment... He feels really misunderstood about this one.” Curt: “What about Sodom and Gomorrah, then?” Gabriel: “...everybody has a bad day, Biddick.”

The only issue is that, as a non-native English speaker, it’s extremely difficult for me to nail Curt’s way of talking. I’ll have to find some shenanigans there. But I’m determined to recreate his distinctive voice, sigh. I need a english - Curt's english translator. 😩

Something I really appreciate about your writing is that you make the kids feel like actual teenagers. I have to ask, how do you get the characterization down when your writing? It's something I struggle to do, even when I go back to the original source.

Going back to the original source is a good start. Characterization goes deeper than simply ‘this character is nice’ or ‘this character is funny.’ Let’s look at Izuku for example. He’s kind and smart, but so are several other students. Something specific to him is that he doesn’t have much of a sense of humor; he doesn’t tell any jokes and rarely laughs at those made by others. Compare this to someone like Uraraka, who occasionally makes teasing comments about her friends, versus Sero or Mina who make jokes at the expense of their classmates pretty often. Back to Izuku, this fact about him contributes to a general sense of his social awkwardness, which my writing interprets in a few additional ways. I feel like his lack of humor and awkwardness would extend to trouble with nicknames, giving or receiving, further evidenced by his struggling in canon to call Tsuyu by the nicknames she wants to be called by. Kacchan on the other hand is out of habit, which combined with his issues visualizing One for All as a part of himself early on indicates he has a hard time breaking habits once he’s set on them. Even the fact that it took him so long to realize that he could adopt a kicking fight style is more evidence of this. And then a reoccurring feature in my fics is that Izuku isn’t a touchy-freely person. There’s not much evidence in canon for this, except that despite him and his Mom being close, they don’t touch often. This might not actually be the case, but that’s part of where my idea came from, and it fits back into that awkwardness. Little things like that can say a lot about a character and how they approach different situations.

As for writing teenagers in general, a common mistake i see in both fic and original content is the assumption that all you need to write believable teenagers is to throw in a bunch of modern slang and references. Think Riverdale, bad crack fics, and 90s anti-drug PSAs. Not only is this often handled poorly (incorrect slang use or misjudged references) it also quickly dates the writing. Memes can take years to reach big names in the entertainment industry, and then it takes another few years for a movie featuring those memes to come out. By then, the meme is dead and cringe. In this day and age, memes can have a much shorter shelf life, living and dying within a week. Even if you release an fic chapter during the peak of a meme’s life cycle, it’s only going to be funny to the people who read it then and there; everyone who jumps on the fic later will just cringe. And there’s no way to tell which ones with have the staying power of something like a rickroll or a classic vine.

The solution: don’t do this. Avoid overusing slang and meme speak, and instead implement more general/timeless dialogue. Slang like ‘dude’ has been in the lexicon long enough that it feels normal, and while ‘mood’ and ‘vibe’ are fairly new, they aren’t as obtrusive as ‘bae’ which is falling out of style, or ‘boomer’ which references a specific group of people. Basically, the more general and common, the better. And keep the time period of your story in mind; MHA for example takes place at least a century in the future, why would the kids of that era still be complaining about boomers? Teenagers still act immaturely sometimes and make jokes, but try and find the humor in the specific situation of the story rather than quoting something else. Teens are also more openly casual than adults. Teasing, touching, maybe saying something rude or inappropriate. One simple way to convey casual speech is to use more contractions; i.e. ‘can’t’ instead of ‘cannot’ or ‘we’re gonna’ instead of ‘we are going to.’ This is my advice for all dialogue: read it to yourself outloud and ask if it sounds like something a real person would actually say. Exaggeration is also good. ‘My life is over!’ when their crush doesn’t like them back, or a big group groan at a pop quiz.

As for the internal experience of being a teenager, the thing i remember most about being that age in the tension between suddenly being expected to be ready for things and take care of myself when i didn’t feel ready, but still being treated like a dumb child in other ways i thought i was ready for. You start understanding more things when you get older and want people to take you seriously as a result, but you’re also insecure about the things you don’t understand and maybe overcompensate. In short, being a teenager comes with a lot of confusing, frustrating changes, some of which are absolutely unfair, but there are a few you genuinely bring upon yourself.

2) I'm still Not Normal about Racer but hey let's talk about Spot for a bit.

So when I first stumbled upon the Brooklyn newsies, I didn't actually know who Spot was for like a month. It was only after I decided to tag along with whoever I had been following that day all the way back to wherever the larger group stayed, and I saw everybody (most of which were pretty rambunctious and not willing to back down for anything) give full control and respect to Spot. who was the smallest person in the room.

Seriously why was he so short. I genuinely thought his nickname was because he was short for like a year.

Anyways, I ended up gaining my first street name because guess who was an idiot and stole something from Spot? yeah me. Idk why I thought that was a smart move.

Thankfully Spot noticed that I was a thin and pale child who's voice was weirdly shaky (I had anxiety 👍 (i cannot shake it in any life)) and was NOT wearing proper fall clothes because I was stubborn. Because of this he decided not to bash my head in, especially after learning that I had been giving the newsies some extra cash because I could. He ended up taking me under his wing and taught me some skills and tips in case I'd ever end up on the streets. which you know, I did. technically by my own choice but still.

I think I spent around 3~ years as a member of the brooklyn newsies. I wasn't buying my own papes to sell, but some of the guys got a few extras and handed them off to me, with the agreement that I'd give them half the profits to help cover the extra cost. During this time Spot had a bit of a soft spot for me, first simply because I was an easy source of extra cash, and then later on because I was clearly a kid who needed a bit of freedom and affection from somebody who saw me as Magpie, not Alex.

I never said it to his face, but I always did see Spot as a older sibling figure. He was really nice, and although I couldn't hold my own against a 1v1 fight, but he taught me how to defend myself and to use a weapon in tandem with my parkour skills to maximize my damage to somebody attacking me.

I do remember that some time after the strike, Racer's gambling ring got big enough to warrant a building to hold seminightly hang outs. This was all because after the strike and the rally with all the newsies coming to hear us out, some new friendships were made and Racer got so so many more opportunities to earn money. Anyways, during these meetings, me, Racer, and Spot were seen as the kings of the ring. Spot because he scared literally everybody, Racer because he was the one in charge, and me because Those Two. That's my brother and my could-have-been-boyfriend - Voidling Anon

Hey, I am asking about Pan's and Dionysus' relationship lol. Doing this based on your recent incorrect quotes post! What is their relationship with each other like?

The tags, i bet xD in any case, i do have some few details about them i was saving in case i had to explain the quotes. It's not much, but that's due to Pan becoming, kind of forgotten, mixed with other gods, or just turned into a common satyr.

Pan was a rustic god, his worship wasn't done much outside of caves, because, yes, his santuaries were inside caves. And he just ended up becoming a normal satyr who was with the rest of satyrs that vibe around Dionysus. With the exception of him being the father of an specific race of satyrs, according to Nonnus of Panopolis. I don't have their names, they didn't do anything that any other satyr couldn't do, nothing new.

According to the Homeric Hymn XVII to Pan, he was liked by many of the gods when Hermes took him to Olympus because he was funny. And it is specified that Dionysus was the one who liked him the most. But... This is pretty much it. Guess he just saw him and thought "oh he looks like a satyr, but at least he's funny, i'll keep him." and moved on. The Orphic Hymn XI to Pan doesn't mention Dionysus actually, the god it mentions is Zeus, when comparing Pan to another god, calling him "the authentic horned Zeus".

Now, the funny part in which i decided to base the incorrect quotes... Nonnus of Panopolis, again.

In his work, Pan is compared to Dionysus a lot, like a lot, literally most of the times that he's mentioned is just to say "lmao why can't you be like Dionysus", even in the one in which it's actually Pan himself the one who keeps complaining about not being able to be like Dionysus. In one part, Pan complaing about not being able to make people go insane, or the ability to use wine to do that thing as well, drive people mad. I guess knowing how Pan's characteristics are like, it makes sense that he was jealous of Dionysus' scarier side, since he did want to be able to drive people mad.

Or that one other part of Nonnus' same work in which Pan laughs at Dionysus being rejected by a nymph, saying "hey, we are actually very alike! We are both miserable right now!" and Dionysus just stares at him, while picking up wine, with a "please shut the hell up" look. It's a very funny part for me, since Pan is just letting out a monologue of "oh we're both so mistreated by everyone!" and Dionysus just keeps and keeps doing whatever he can to stop people from comparing them.

The last thing i can share from Nonnus' work regarding this two, is Dionysus mocking Pan regarding the last thing i explained: Dionysus tells him "you shouldn't complain, you have it better than me, at least Echo (the nymph who Pan loved) returns your voice" which is mockery, since the reason Echo repeats what the other says is because Hera cursed her, not because she loved Pan. So. Yeah. Mockery.

In general, i think the conclusion we can achieve is that... They're in decent terms, but Pan is growing closer and closer to make Dionysus actually want to kill him. Pan is like the boomer who keeps telling the young dude "back in my days this wasn't like this" and annoying him wth the shenanigans.

That's to be taken with a grain of salt, though. Since we're talking about Nonnus of all sources. It's simply not good to use him as a source without further evidence for the stuff he writes about. So. Let's say they're good buddies according to the Homeric Hymn-
