Vessel is actively dying. The only reason he's currently breathing, walking and smiling is all because of Sleep. He's heavily dependent on Her, so much that his life, quite literally, depends on Her. Prior to becoming a vessel of Her legion, he perished in a fit of deep despair and was contacted by Sleep through his subconscious, hence how he was "revived" and taken over by Her influence. He lies he met Her through his dreams but it's actually through the serenity of death. He can't defy her, and he can't die anymore to escape Her control even if he wanted to. He's, essentially, a walking corpse. She's his trust fund for, literally, life. One move wrong and he loses everything. Including his ability to walk the overworld. He's immortal, yes, but not forever. Sleep is keeping him "alive". She is the only thing keeping him that way.

Also the only reason he's staying alive and breathing is for his friends and the other vessels. They are too much value to him. He doesn't want to see them sad from his permanent absence.

Vessel cries. A LOT.

On stage and off stage. That's why his eyes are usually bloodshot and puffy. He's a very emotional guy, but even despite all that, he tries his best to be there for everyone no matter how much he is struggling himself. Adding to his emotional sensitivity, he's very altruistic so he values his loved ones over himself. He's considered the emotional support of the group, and being the leader and all, there's a lot of pressure on him.

He's also kind of easily trusting and naïve, especially in desperate moments hence he succumbed to Sleep's control quickly and without much protest.

He doesn't mind much, however. He still loves everyone and believes that not everyone may change but they still deserve a chance to, kinda like Charlie from Hazbin Hotel in a way.

Sleep Token + Crossfire headcanons

I see everyone making headcanons for the boys, Vesselettes and probably Sleep so I might as well share my own I've been developing for a while including my ST(?) oc <3

Has 6 eyes, the scleras are black

Used to be a solo singer and musician before becoming a vessel of Sleep

Is really good friends with II prior to Sleep Token; they are still besties to this day <3

Treats the minor vessels like children or siblings

Trusts II (or moreso Cross) the most

Pointed ear tips, kinda like an elf

The mask is glued to his face inconsistently so he is unable to take it off whenever he wants; Sleep decides when he can take it off

The upper half of his facial skin is gone as of result, so he lives with a brutal scar from his cheekbones and up due to how often he yearns to tear the mask off

Used to have brown hair, soon dissolved into white due to stress and Sleep's influence

Sleep punishes him in extremely fucked up ways if/when he goes against Her word or doesn't do what She requests

Sleep LOATHES him, so much so that She refuses to even let him TOUCH Vessel or any of the others

Loves to make fun of II’s height any chance he gets

III and IV helped him acquaint to the bass and guitar again respectively after years of barely playing 

Vessel dedicated “Rain" to him, written specifically for their friendship(?) 

The Espera are sort of like a mother/younger sisters to him lmao

A very skilled polyglot, can speak practically every language

Can kick ass, most of the time

Trauma bonded w/ Vess lmao

Disco ball - I think it's being able to work alongside the people he idolized since childhood

He was a gigantic fan of certain figures in the music industry and metal community and once he got an opportunity to work with them, he obviously took it right away

Also his son, yes he has a son, and his other kids (3 daughters), he loves them dearly and being able to raise a mini version of yourself even if it's not the best but your kid still loves you too is such a new feeling

White - I think when he was just barely an adult and he watched the very person he considered almost a brother more than his actual siblings, Firestorm die in front of him

It was a quick death too (shot to the head) so Cross didn't even get to say goodbye 😔

Crystal ball - A future? I don't think he even has a future anymore but I guess a future where everyone he cherishes and values is still alive and kicking

He knows he'll ultimately end up alone so he can just keep dreaming

Black - Childhood, I think his childhood was the best, growing up along his siblings and best friends safely although he still suffered through stuff cause I'm evil :P

Soccer ball - His forever bestie and ex-fiancee, Fire Fox, one of his most trusted confidantes he's known since childhood, he and her are like cherries that can't be separated sorta??? She's always been by his side even if she went to pursue other things and was his emotional support when her twin brother, Firestorm, who is also my OC's therapist, died :3
