Düster kommt das erste Non- Movie-Soundtrackalbum von David Holmes seit 2008 (The holy picture) daher. Und düster sind auch die Themen, die David Holmes gemeinsam mit Raven Violet aufgreift. Bis auf zwei Instrumentals stammen die gesamten Vocals auf Blind on a galloping horse von der außergewöhnlichen US Sängerin Raven Violet, die – Funfact – Patenkind des 54 jährigen Iren ist. Mit ungewohnter Schärfe beschreibt Holmes auf dem Album die dystopische Welt in der wir uns aktuell bewegen. Und so mutet der vermutlich beste Song  Hope is the last thing to die eigentlich fast schon wieder als emotionaler Mutmacher an, wenn Raven Violet zum aktiven Widerstand auffordert: „Let´s make some changes tonight“. Düster sind auch die treibenden Synthesizer-Wälle, Blind on a galloping horse ist ein unglaublich gutes Stück Agit-Pop, eine Spielart die Heaven 17 mit dem Frühwerk (Penthouse and pavement und The Luxury gap) in den frühen Eighties so perfektionierten. Stellen Sie sich vor Sie tanzen zu ihrem eigenen Soundtrack aus dem Vorhof der Hölle. Das beeindruckendste Stück auf Blind on a galloping horse ist aber When people are occupied, resistence is justified. Ein atmosphärisch dichter an- und abschwellender 10 Minüter voller Angst und Schmerz.

Belle and Sebastian / This letter

4 Instrumentals, 7 neue Songs mit Gesang und 2 Remakes, so die nüchternen Zahlen zum neuen Belle and Sebastien Album „Days of Bagnold Summer“. Das Album ist Soundtrack zum gleichnamigen Film von Simon Bird nach der Graphic Novel von Joff Winterhart. Und ohne den Film zu kennen ist „Days of Bagnold Summer“ eher ein vollwertiges Belle and Sebastian Album, denn ein klassischer Film-Soundtrack. Anders als das in 2002 veröffentliche Soundtrackalbum „Storytelling“, welches nur in einzelnen Stücken losgelöst vom Film wirkt. Auf Days of Bagnold Summer“ finden Stuart Murdoch und Mitstreiter/innen interessanterweise wieder zur alten Neo-Folk-Popformel der frühen Jahre zurück. Dies funktioniert in 2019 zwar nicht mehr so souverän wie einst 1997 bringt dann aber doch solch wundervolle Musik-Miniaturen wie „This letter“, einen der schönsten Belle and Sebastian Songs der letzten Jahre, hervor.

Alanna Ubach's singing in the movie, and soundtrack, of the new film "Coco".

Sing to me, oh muse, a tale of loss, family, and love... Oh, and throw in some sweet songs. Have you watched the new Disney/Pixar movie "Coco"? In it Alanna Ubach sings a song in Spanish near the end of the movie. Do you remember hearing her sing in "Beakman's World" season 1, episode 17, singing the song "The Human Voice"?

This is a clip and paste image, with images of Alanna Ubach as she appeared in Beakman's World, as she sang her first professionally recorded song "The Human Voice". It is combined with the new cover image of the Coco film soundtrack. It shows her character in the movie, and I added a image of Alanna at the Hollywood premiere of the film. This image and text lead to the official audio version of the song, that was uploaded by DisneyMusicVEVO, a part of the Vevo {"Video EVOlution"} music hosting company, which pays the royalties to the companies/artist that released the music by advertisements on the videos. Just like the CD album version of the song, this version is 2 minutes, and 46 seconds in length, it was uploaded to their official YouTube channel on November 09, 2017. It appears as the 8th track on the "Coco: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" album.

The story of the film begins in Mexico with Alanna Ubach's character Mama Imelda Rivera, watching her husband leave the family, so he can go write, and perform music. He never returns, so she forbids her family to ever play music again. Her daughter Coco, then ages and has children of her own. Alanna's character eventually has a great-great grandson named Miguel, and the story follows his love of music, and his keeping secrets from his family. He is learning to play music, and he wants to play for a talent contest. He then finds a old picture of his great-great grandfather, and the guitar that the grandfather is holding is a famous guitar owned by a famous musician named Ernesto de la Cruz.

Without a guitar Miguel tries to take the famous guitar from the tomb of the celebrity. But he finds himself in the land of the dead. He then learns he must get a family members blessing so that he can return to the real world. He then meets Alanna's character. She agrees to send him home only if he gives up music, he says no, and decides to try and get the blessing from his dad.

Miguel risks his life to stay and try to get the blessing of the famous singer Ernesto, but along the way he meets Hector a musician that once played with Ernesto. Hector agrees to help, if Miguel puts his picture up on the wall so people will remember Hector, when Miguel returns to the real world. After many adventures Ernesto, and Hector have a disagreement, and Miguel and Hector are imprisoned. Alanna's character then has to help Miguel and Hector, and near the end of the film she sings the song "La Llorona" {The Weeping/Crying Woman} in a duet with Ernesto {Antonio Sol} as the boy and Hector escape.

The film has a surprise reversal ending, and Alanna and her husband forgive each other, and Miguel is then allowed to return home, and continue playing music. Miguel returns home, and sings the song he learned from his great-great grandfather, and that wakes grandma Coco from dreary sleep like condition. The family then accepts Miguel and his musical abilities.

The song that Alanna Ubach sings is a duet with Antonio Sol, it is about a legendary ghost character named "The Weeping/Crying Woman" {La Llorona}. In the song's story, she is crying for her lost children, and seeing her cry makes other people cry. The entire song is sung in Spanish, and their are various versions of the song, and the legend, that have been released through the years. The lyrics are listed as "Traditional", or as folk songs, with the lyrics not being owned by anyone.

#SatudayNightSoundtrack... Risky Business [movie 1983/album 1984] JUST TAKE THOSE OLD RECORDS OFF THE SHELF! Though primarily known for the one major scene of Cruise lip syncing to Bob Seeger 1979 minor hit single, there is an impressive score by Tangerine Dream. The soundtrack also includes the likes of Prince, Jeff Beck, Muddy Waters, Journey and Phil Collins. Mine is a UK pressing and I am not aware of a US release of this album, despite the movie being an early Cruise classic. Still one of my second favorite movie of his.
