hey btw if you're in the USA at  2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4, they're testing the emergency broadcast system. your phone is probably going to make a really loud noise, even if it's on silent. there's a backup date on the 11th if they need to postpone it.

if you're not in a safe situation and have an extra phone, you should turn that phone completely off beforehand.

additionally, if you're like me, and are easily startled; i recommend treating it like a party. have a countdown or something. be surrounded by your loved ones. take the actions you personally need to take to make yourself safe.

i have already seen mockery towards any person who feels nervous about this. for the record, it completely, completely valid to have "emergency broadcast sounds" be an anxiety trigger. do not let other people make fun of you for that. emergency sounds are legitimately engineered to make us take action; those of us with high levels of anxiety and/or neurodivergence are already pre-disposed to have a Bad Time. sometimes it is best to acknowledge that the situation will be triggering for some, and to prepare for that; rather than just saying "well that's stupid, it's just a test."

"loud scary sound time" isn't like, my favorite thing, but we can at least try to prevent some additional anxiety by preparing for it. maybe get yourself a cake? noise cancelling headphones? the new hozier album? whatever helps. love u, hope you're okay. we are gonna ride it out together.

This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans has wrapped up their workshop and is heading into filming!

I spent so much time growing up and in my early twenties fantasising about being able to pursue my interests one day, because my mum couldn’t afford to pay for things and then I spent ages 20-26 being a student with no income. But now I can just do those things. I don’t have to daydream about learning an instrument, I can find a teacher and start lessons. I can buy clay to make things and go to pottery classes. I can sign up for workshops. I can buy the materials and have the spare time after work to learn how to use them. It’s what I’ve waited so long for and it’s scary! To finally be able to do those things, to admit to myself that I do want to do those things. Every time I go to do something I start to get overwhelmed by doubt and a sense of being an imposter because I’ve never been able to be someone who does things so it feels alien. I start to feel like “well I don’t actually need to do it I just like thinking about being someone who does that kind of thing”. So I am trying my best to set myself free from that idea because it just isn’t true.

there is a village at the edge of the world, overlooking the abyss there is one path that leads to the village, one that takes years to find and a day to lose a child is born in the village, and he dances over the fault lines

there is a city on the tallest mountain at the center of the world marble statues, houses of gold, nothing worse than owning any of it the child senses disaster about to strike he starts walking out of the village, on the path, never saying goodbye

and then the earthquakes began started small, and then his parents died in one the city dwellers paid it no mind but the child always wondered

the child grew into a man when the earthquakes shook the city the marble statue at the center of town fell over smashed into pieces, the gold houses no longer a stash of wealth and he always wondered if the village would be alright

an old man already, but cannot remember his age walked back through the lightly-treaded dirt path to his village to find ruins but he looked off into the abyss he went back to his old wooden house and out of the walls he cut a raft

he sailed out into nowhere and suddenly, in the distance, a ship following a lightly treaded path into another village of toppled marble statues and gold
