Big Wbn relisten feelings this is gonna be a ramble and maybe mean nothing

lots of thoughts on suvis line after the bath scene of “I made him different and now he can’t go home” and how that directly parallels the finale and how each of suvi and eursulons story’s mirror each other

i think it’s really interesting how the importance and goodness of being apart of the world and changed by it is a central theme of the story but is often portrayed as negative. It essentially bookends and runs through the whole story, -eursulon being cursed by the well intentioned kindness of ame and suvi in giving him food home and a bath, steel comparing the change in suvi from her connections to ame and eursulon to a sickness- but even in the final discussion between eursulon and the Great Bear he saids ” you have undone the mistakes you have made, you have completed a quest…” and what what mistake has eursulon made? is it really just believing in the ideals he saw in Sir Curran? wanting something he wasn’t supposed to know to want? outside of the isolation of the world he grew up in? i can’t look anywhere in this story without absolutely drowning in parallels i’m so not normal about this

Travis: Roll it, big beautiful bullet —

Griffin: That mouse — that mouse button gets heavy sometimes — oh my goodne — wait, no, Dad, you just —

Justin: Nope, nope, you just rolled a 6, apropos of nothing.

[clapping begins in the background]

Griffin, hysterical: I didn't know you could do that! Dad just rolled...[crosstalk] the number six!

Travis: The number six!

Justin: Yeah, Dad just — [wheezes]

Griffin: Dad just essentially typed "six" in —

Clint: That was my roll!

Travis: [crosstalk] Did you roll a D 6? Or the number six?!

Justin, laughing: No, I think — no. [laughter]

Clint: I typed in "roll d6!"

Griffin: No, you typed "rolling 6!"

Justin: And then it rolled a 6!

Griffin: Equals 6!

Clint: Well, then... yay for me!

Justin: No, Dad!

Griffin: No, Mac!

Travis: You basically just typed "6" into the chat, and then hit "send!"

Justin, laughing: I can't even make what he did happen!

Travis: You gamed the system!

Justin: Yeah, you just typed 6, Dad!

Travis: I don't even know how you did it! [crosstalk] You got inside the matrix!

Clint: Wait a minute, wait a minute! I typed in "forward slash roll d6"...

Travis: I think you mighta left out the D!

Clint: No, I did not! 'Cause I just typed in — I did the exact same thing

Griffin: [crosstalk] watch what happens, watch what happens, Justin just did "rolling d6" and I did "roll 6". Do you see the — the sort of syntactic difference —

Clint: Okay, but go up! Go up three, where I rolled d6 again, and it gave me 2!

Griffin, after a pause: Yea—yes! Cause that's a die! You wrote "rolling 6" in the first chat, not rolling d6!

Travis: And then I wrote "roll 2" and I got a 2, do you see? And now roll... 4...

Griffin: I just rolled a hundred thousand!

Justin, losing it: Okay, guys, we got other stuff to do —

Travis: Roll... Travis.

Step Into: The Adventure Zone!

Welcome to The Adventure Zone!

Or, rather, I guess, please welcome The Adventure Zone? To existence? It didn’t exist before, and now it does. You were probably here first, I mean.

In The Adventure Zone, we — which is to say Justin, Travis, Griffin and their father Clint — play Dungeons & Dragons. None of us are especially experienced players, but pen-and-paper RPGs are like, the only nerd thing we hadn’t done, so here we are!

This is Griffin, by the way. I’m the Dungeon Master for our campaign, and will likely provide most of the updates on this here blog. I’d like to use the space to talk about the game — what we’re learning about it, how I’m putting together the story, how our characters are changing, and so on. I’d like to put up Character Sheets as we go, so folks who are into that thing can follow along. I’d also like to eventually allow listeners to create custom items and characters for the campaign, too, and will use this space to track that as well.
