@victoriansecret has been assisting me in my quest to find traditional fife and drum field music with only ONE fife and ONE drum. I am in love with this recording he found of The Duke of York's March (Short Troop), by the Old Fort Niagara Fifes and Drums [Facebook link]. There is something deeply poignant and stirring in the sound of this minimalist arrangement.

If I heard something like this 200-250 years ago I would IMMEDIATELY take the King’s shilling, they wouldn't even need to tempt me with free ribbons and alcohol! You had me at fife and drum.

imagining athena sculpting odysseus from the ground up. like out of clay. maybe somewhere along the line he realizes what's happening and tries to run away. he ends up ruining her hard work; he smashes his fingers and swipes valleys into his torso and gouges out hunks of clay from his chest.

athena's gone and odysseus takes those mangled fingers and tries to piece himself back together. an appeal at agency, taking back what should’ve always been his. he claws the splatters of himself off the ground and reintroduces it to the rest of him. and he doesn't realize it, but the lovely statue he creates of himself is exactly how athena envisioned him.

... which makes perfect sense when he's also a fan of the Cranberries. Wong Faye covered one of their songs too - and was known for this stretchy thin cat-in-heat type of voice. Similar to Shiina Riingo (if you were into jrock during the early 2000s)

Faye Wong was one of the top Hong Kong/Chinese singers of the late 90s/early 2000s and known in the west for starring opposite Tony Leung in Chungking Express. She was also considered edgy/rebellious/eccentric - all of the above, for a pop star.
