Every love story was different, but always held the same three characteristics.

It could be ANYONE. Literally any person you pass on the street could be your soulmate. Didn't feel tiny in the expansive universe already?

It could happen at ANY time. Fifth grade math lesson? Accidental shoulder check at the grocery store? Awkward doctor's appointment? There was no telling where love would rear its ugly head.

Love in this new age? It always started with a burst of color.

"All I could see was this bright green going from my hand down my forearm," your best friend, Mina, rushed out excitedly. "It almost made me drop the weight I was holding."

"That's great, babe," you smiled, trying to be happy for her. "Who is the lucky guy?"

"His name is Hajoon," she continued dreamily. "I guess he'd seen me at the gym before but was too scared to say anything. Isn't that adorable?"

You would probably be going to Hell for not being over the moon for your best friend, but it was hard when you were still waiting.

Society put such an emphasis on finding your soulmate, it was impossible to think of much else. Going about your day, you tried to pay attention to who you brushed past or made casual physical contact with. That's how you would know.

When you touched your soulmate, color would bloom across your skin at the point of impact.

"Super cute," you sighed, avoiding eye contact. "So he saw you start to struggle and saved the day by spotting you?"

"Mhm," she hummed. "As soon as his fingers touched the back of my hand, it was like someone threw dye onto our arms. It was the craziest thing!"

"Sounds beautiful," you nodded, giving your best effort at a smile.

Clocking your failed attempts at support, Mina smiled sadly in return. "It's going to happen for you soon. I can feel it."

"Can you pass some of that feeling to me?" you grumbled. "I'd prefer not to ruin such a big day for my best friend."

"Hush," she cooed, wrapping an arm around you. "You haven't ruined anything. Sour mood or not, I have some good news."

"What's that?"

"Hajoon works for an entertainment company," she nodded. "He's an executive-"

"Cute AND rich?" you teased. "That IS some excellent news for you."

Smacking at your leg, Mina continued. "He asked if I wanted to go to a concert put on by his work. We have plans to meet up after, but do you want to go to the concert with me? He said I could bring a friend while he's working backstage on things."

"Why not?" you sighed. "Maybe I'll get elbowed in the crowd and accidentally find my soulmate."

"That's the spirit!"

A few days later, you allowed Mina to get you dressed up, acting as her doll for the night. You could admit that you were going through the motions as you followed her to the venue. Determined to make sure it was a good night for her, you put on as bright of a smile as you could when she handed you a light stick.

"The group is called Monsta X," she instructed. "They have six members, and their music is really exciting."

"Got it," you nodded, positive you had listened to their songs before. "Who's my favorite?"

"Not Hyungwon," she grinned. "He's my favorite."

"Point him out to me so I know to stay clear," you chuckled.

"We also have a high touch after," she said brightly, tugging you through the crowd.

"High touch," you confirmed, searching your brain for what exactly that meant. "Can't wait."

"You're going to have fun," Mina said slowly, looking over her shoulder at you. "I promise."

And she was right, the show was a blast. You had never experienced a live concert like Monsta X's before. The energy of the crowed literally radiated through your body. You were right that you had heard some of their music before and sang along to all of the songs you knew. Being lost in the crowd that was all feeling the same electricity was incredible. It's like you were one giant, synchronous being.

After the show, you were a bit flustered from all the activity, nearly forgetting you had a chance to meet the idols before leaving (yes, you did break down and ask Mina what exactly a high touch was). Allowing her to once again navigate you to where you needed to be, it wasn't long before you were thrust in front of the very men you had been howling at only minutes before.

Pushing you in front of her, Mina pointed to the first member facing your way for the high touch. "That's Hyungwon."

Assessing him, you could easily see why he was her favorite. Handsome was an understatement, this man was ethereal. "Yeeaah he is."

"Y/N," your friend giggled, giving you a slight push. Taking the few steps forward, you slapped your hand in his for a high five. The moment lasted only seconds but there was a bit of a rush to meeting a celebrity.

Next came a tall, tan, and buff member you would later learn was Shownu.

After, you locked eyes with the third member, remembering him as one of the vibrant mood makers of the group. He had been incredible on stage.

As your hand skid across his, you shot back with a gasp.

"Yah!" the member shouted, hopping backwards as well. His focus ricocheted from his palm to yours, mouth completely agape. Looking down in fascination, colors began to wrap around his wrist and trickle down his arm.

Shocked by what was happening, you glanced down at your own arm as well, getting lost in the cloud-like imagery blossoming across your skin.

Gasps erupted around you by both spectators and other Monsta X members. You couldn't help but feel like you did something wrong. Like you weren't allowed to have someone so interesting and good looking as a soulmate.

This simply could not be possible.

"Hey!" Jooheon yelled, bringing your attention back to him. He wasn't talking to you, but shouting at a staff member while aggressively waving them over. "Yo!"

Snapping out of it a bit, you took another step back, only to be slightly held up by Mina behind you. This was sensory overload to the nth degree.

"Y/N," she hissed, her own eyes darting across the scene. "Did...did you just sync up with Jooheon? Is he your soulmate?"

Jooheon. You had never heard his name before, but it just sounded right.

"I...I think so," you managed, not entirely believing what was happening.

A staff member had finally appeared, listening to Jooheon as he rapid-fired the situation to his manager. Occasionally shooting looks of surprise your way, he didn't stop talking until they had both sidled up to you.

"We're stepping away from the high touch," his manager explained, taking you by the elbow and guiding you towards an adjacent hallway. "The fan meet will continue without Joohoney."

"That's not fair," you said slowly, shaking your head. Glancing to the man you assumed you were tied to for life now, you heaved a sigh. "Your fans have waited so long for you."

Looking helplessly back and forth between you and his manager, Jooheon croaked. "But you're my soulmate."

"I'm not saying I'm going to disappear," you smiled reassuringly. "I'll just wait until you're done. I've waited this long."

Giving a curt nod, Jooheon's eyes searched your face for a moment. His lips pulled into a slow smile before he reached up, giving your nose a boop. Immediately, his manager's jaw dropped, presumably as color stretched across the middle of your face.

Pleased with himself, Jooheon turned on his heel and took up his spot behind the table again. Maintaining eye contact with you, he offered a dazzling smile.

"Alright," his manager breathed out on a sigh. "Let's get you backstage, shall we?"

Lost in your phone, trying to explain what was going on to the friend you had abandoned, you almost didn't notice him walk in.

Hearing the quiet click of the door closing, your head immediately snapped up to see Jooheon leaning against the entrance. His expression was full of hope, with a fringe of excitement. You could tell he was trying to reign in his enthusiasm. Judging by how hard he went on the stage; he seemed like a very reactive person. This quiet and careful side of him wasn't something you had really expected.

You supposed you had a lot to learn.

Crossing the room slowly, he took a seat on the coffee table in front of the couch you were sitting on. He bracketed your knees with his, creating an intimate space between the two of you.

Without hesitation, he took your hands gently between his, a light purple color already blooming from your fingertips. "Y/N, right?"

You barely remembered telling his manager your name, so he likely got passed the information.

"That's me."

"My soulmate."

You nodded weakly, looking from your joined hands and back up to his face. He smiled again before lifting your fingers to his mouth and kissing each tip in turn. As he did, it was like dropping food coloring into a glass of water. Different hues clouded out of your joints and went swirling around your skin. It was one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen.

Glancing up, you were immediately struck by the bright blue peppering Jooheon's mouth like ink blots. Slowly the color started to fade as your skin had lost contact with his mouth, but you still felt mesmerized by the whole experience.

"You're so beautiful," you said quietly, your eyes locking on his.

He gave you a close-lipped smile before tilting his head. Narrowing his eyes, he lifted his arm, and traced a small line on your cheekbone. You didn't have to see the result yourself to know that the visual had just as much of an effect on him as it did you.

"This is beautiful," he finally responded, dropping his hands to gather yours again. "I don't think I'll ever get tired of it."

"Me either," you breathed.

"I guess it gives me an excuse to hold your hand," he grinned, his eyes disappearing as it grew.

"You didn't need an excuse in the first place!" you laughed. "You're my soulmate now. You can hold my hand whenever you want."

"My soulmate," he whispered again. Each time he had voiced the words, there was a constant undertone of wonder.

"I don't think I'll get tired of hearing you say that," you chuckled, sure a blush was blazing across your face.

Jooheon furrowed his brows in thought. "Did you come to the show today as a fan? Was I your favorite?"

You coughed out a surprised laugh.

"It would be really awkward if you had a different favorite. If it was someone else, don't tell me who...

Okay, who was it?"

You continued to laugh as you shook your head. "I was only ever a casual fan. My friend had tickets and insisted I tag along. I promise I will be a Monbebe going forward, and you will always be my favorite."

"Damn right," he muttered. "And stay away from Minhyuk. He's more charming than I'd ever admit to him, and I don't want you getting caught in his cute little clutches."

"I will remain unshaken in my loyalty," you affirmed with a smirk. Plus, you had no idea who Minhyuk was, so that helped.

It was crazy to think of. If Mina didn't bring you here today, would you have ever discovered that Jooheon existed? Let alone that he was your soulmate?

You didn't want to think too hard on it. The universe worked in mysterious ways that you didn't expect to ever be privy to.

"So..." you hummed, glancing at Jooheon through your lashes. "What now?"

"Everything," he grinned, squeezing your hand. "We only have forever to figure out what happens next."

Hello!! A brief(ish) recap before the actual list. It’s been a pretty wild year in wingsland, mostly thanks to finishing up my second master’s degree in December (finally, BYE!). Looking back, I’m surprised at how much content I actually created, but this has been a refuge and source of comfort for me while running on fumes between work and school and general adulting. 2023 also marked some changes in my listening and sources of inspiration. I fell more out of interest with txt (apologies to all followers who were here for them… this is the second time this has happened, oops?) but fell even more in love with Monsta X while discovering some other new or new-to-me artists (more on that in another post). Reason was my first official comeback with them, and it really lit a fire in my brain. I have a few ongoing series that I intend to continue, whether they’re gifs or audio compilations. I giffed a LOT of besties (minhyuk + hyungwon, the soulmates of soulmate besties). It brings me so so much joy to work on those sets and the various audio edits or just being excited about musical details in my music box tag. I also managed to squeeze in a few angsty mv sets along the way, because tbh I feel like I am thriving most as a creator when something is pulling at the heartstrings. I know mbbblr has been quiet lately (and must seem exceedingly so to those who were around years ago), but I will keep being noisy about them until mx6 is reunited and beyond. Thank you for sticking around with me ♡

i've been an army since 2017 but i've been on tumblr/ao3/fandom spaces for much longer than that. i'm yoongi biased, so most of my fics will probably be yoongi-centric at first. but don't worry! i am ot7, and i am fully willing to branch out to other members if people are interested in seeing that from me at a later date.

♡ HAPPY HYUNGWON DAY ♡ wishing the happiest of birthdays to hyungwon, who is still mid-comeback week and likely will have! very little time to relax because of their whirlwind schedules! nonetheless i hope he snatches some moments to do what makes him happy, that he’s smiling all day, that the people around him make him feel extra special amidst all of the hustle and bustle. :’)

quick cc note: ah well we all know how this goes right!! i don’t know how obvious this is, but for as quickly as kihyun cemented his status as a resident of my heart, hyungwon was barely a step behind. and like. i simply accepted it. i was like. ah yes. this makes sense. (it didn’t! he’s not my usual bias type at all. as opposed to minhyuk, who IS, and who i fought tooth and nail.) it was like. what. was i supposed to say NO to this silly lanky string bean of a man who is so endlessly graceful onstage and then. regularly falls over his own feet when he isn’t performing? absolutely irresistible imo.

[enter brief delusional paragraph im so sorry] ok. in the most normal way possible. if u were like. megan who in monsta x do u think you would Actually be good friends with. hyungwon is the obvious pick!! and the reason i think this is. a) infps tend to get along with other infps and i think our energies match well. b) i would go get seafood with him all the time so kihyun doesn’t have to. c) on a worldview level i am nearly perfectly aligned with minhyuk and as we know hyunghyuk are soulmates! in conclusion i just think. we would get along. in my mind hyungwon is my friend. let me have this!! okay. end delusions.

because it’s his birthday... and bc you all know it already, i’ll admit once again that hyungwon is my absolute favorite mx producer. (shh don’t tell the others!) the sheer DRAMA in most of his songs and the way he writes so compatibly with kihyun’s wheelhouse is so <3 to me...... but like. genuinely, every time i see his name in a song’s credits, i KNOW that it’s going to be one of my favorites on the album, no exceptions. (by the way, spotify code in the second panel is active and goes to a playlist of his songs! i’ll keep it current.) i love the progression of dj h.one (MY BELOVED) to producing songs for his group, and even outside of his group!

hyungwon i think more than any other member has really come into his own in the past year or two, and it’s like. really lovely to see. he has always been charming and handsome and he has always had a smile that could knock you right off guard, but lately he has been brimming with confidence! (which. i love.) it’s in the way he carries himself, the way he’s so much more sure-footed and is just comfortable in his skin. i really admire the way he’s so steady. i think his personality, while so incredibly endearing and often playful, is maybe less flashy than some others in the group, but he is still such a force to be reckoned with. i think often of that interview he did recently, where a fan talks about feeling like it’s too late to try learning new things, and he rebuts that notion firmly, talking about how he himself was a “late” bloomer in so many things in his life, but that there’s no such thing as TOO late, as long as there’s a willingness to learn. i’ve been carrying those words with me, have held them close and reminded myself of them whenever i’ve felt myself shying away from starting something for fear of not being good at it right away, for fear of being “behind” everyone else.

i’m really happy that he seems to finally be getting broader recognition. i know that he doesn’t need outside validation really, and that he’d be just as happy as long as the group was doing well, but he deserves the millions of views on his my alcohol diary episode, and he deserves that drama gig, and he deserves to be getting invited to luxury brand events left and right! he deserves the korean gp falling over themselves to talk about how handsome and kind and wonderful he is!!

i think 2023 is going to be his YEAR. he is riding momentum, he is catching fans left and right, he is, as i said, brimming with such energy and confidence and i cannot imagine a world in which that energy isn’t returned to him. i think so many more opportunities are going to come to him, and i’m looking forward to seeing what he chooses to do.

but career advancement aside, chae hyungwon i hope that you continue to love what you do, and that you get time to rest at some point, hopefully soon! i will always be rooting for you, i cannot wait to see what the future brings. at the end of the day i hope you are happy, i hope you are laughing and smiling more often than not, i hope that you get your introvert recharge time as needed, and most of all, i hope that your wishes, whatever they may be, come true all of this year and beyond.

You don’t like EDM.

Or, no, it’s not that you dislike it, necessarily. You’ve just never counted the genre among your favorites. It’s unavoidable, though, as the soundtrack of choice for festivals, clubs, and TikToks alike.

And concerts, as you’re discovering tonight.

This is supposed to be a pop-rock kind of show, some band that your friend recommended, playing at a dingy little venue downtown that you frequented as a student. You were younger then, looser with the amount you drank, less concerned with the music playing and much more concerned with meeting someone cute in the crowd to take home (or, far more realistically, to just fantasize about with your friends). Bagging the lead singer for one wild night, meeting your soulmate among the sweaty throngs of moshing music fans…you’ve imagined it all, drunk and ridiculous with your friends.

But now, older and less patient and looking for a simple solo night out with good music and a reasonable number of alcoholic beverages, you’re slightly dismayed to learn that the first act you’ll have to sit through before the headlining band is a DJ.

A DJ. Not even another, lesser-known rock group. But a DJ.

It’s your own fault, you reason, for not checking the ticket listing more carefully, or scrutinizing the posters on the way in. You could have arrived later, missed the opener, and taken your time getting ready.

But you snagged a rare high-top table along the side of the open floor, which is exceptionally good luck, so maybe you’re better off having come early, after all. You’re comfortable, perched on a stool, slightly taller and far more relaxed than the milling groups of people standing around, the brave souls already crushed a few rows deep against the front barrier along the stage.

Even if you have to sit through some DJ’s lame-ass set.

Your interest is piqued, though only slightly, when the lights dim and the DJ himself walks onstage.

He’s kind of unassuming at first glance, just a tall guy in a dark hoodie and a brightly-colored jacket overtop. Even when he faces the crowd from behind his setup, he doesn’t look like much. A mop of dark hair, a small delicate face barely visible under the drooping hood of his sweatshirt.

He kind of reminds you of a turtle, if you’re being honest. The slight point to his thick (…pretty) upper lip gives him a slightly reptilian look, complete with dark tired eyes and a kind of slow precision to his movements.

He introduces himself as DJ H. ONE, which strikes you as kind of funny.

Most DJs would take the beginning of their set to plug their socials, try to hype the crowd, or do something else equally as embarrassing, but he doesn’t. No, he just gets into it, hands right at the turntables, skittering across the laptop that he carried onstage with him.

The music’s not terrible, either.

You still don’t like EDM much, though, so rather than dancing like some of the more excited people at the front of the crowd are doing, you’re just sitting there. Enjoying yourself, sure, but not exactly partying. You’ll be happier when the band comes out.

“You’re so hot!”

The call ringing up from the front row surprises you, and it seems to surprise the DJ just as much. But his bemusement passes quickly, and with a strikingly charming half-smile, he pushes the hood off and shakes out his dark hair.

He…is kind of hot, isn’t he?

It’s a small venue, and under the harsh spotlight you can clearly see how the semicircles of eyesmile stand out on his face. He’s relaxed a little bit now, it seems, as he bounces more intently to the beat that he’s manipulating, bobbing his head to the staccato bass.

The DJ’s gaze passes over the front-row crowd, the equal-opportunity party people who are getting down to his music, and then.

And then he looks at you.

He looks at you, he meets your eye, and he pauses.

You can’t figure out why, for a moment – you don’t know each other, you’ve never met, and after a quick glance downward you conclude that nothing Is noticeably wrong with your outfit – until it dawns on you.

You’re here alone, you stand out from the crowd because you’re sitting rather than standing, and you aren’t dancing. Friends have told you before that you’re capable of some intense resting bitch face, and you’ve probably been aiming it directly at the guy as you scrutinize his good looks and his musical aptitude.

He’s looking right at you, eyes unreadable even as his hands keep working the keys and knobs. He doesn’t seem offended by your lack of reaction. Rather, it seems like curiosity.

He breaks the eye contact, focus returning to the task at hand. He tilts his head to the side, telegraphing his careful consideration.

The song changes, the hard beat he’d been throwing down melting away into something smoother, more melodic, an R&B kind of sway. A few whoops of approval come up from the crowd, taking in the new atmosphere.

But the DJ simply looks back at you.

There’s a question in the shrug of his shoulders, and you’re a little self-conscious that he’s even asking.

This is better, you have to admit to yourself. The sultry slow jams are usually your pick over the loud club bangers, hence your general disinterest in EDM. But this guy is playing a game, and you can’t let him win so easily.

You cross your arms over your chest, and you fix him with a flat look. You can’t help the grin that creeps onto your face, though, as he takes in your stubborn dismissal and nods resolutely.

The music changes again, and this time it’s reggaeton.

You laugh.

Why this DJ has decided that pleasing one particular audience member is his main priority for the night, you can’t fathom. But that’s what he’s doing. It’s undoubtable now. He’s trying to get a reaction out of you, feeling out what kind of music you like.

Suddenly, all the fantasies that your younger self had conjured in this very room, the silly and impossible trysts with artists and rockstars, seem very much possible.

You’d laughed at the sudden left turn, but as the DJ smiles at you, baring small even teeth and wrinkling his nose delicately, you shake your head. If he’s looking for music that’s your style, he hasn’t found it.

His set has to be coming to an end, soon. He’s been onstage for nearly 20 minutes, somehow.

He’s still looking at you, eyes gleaming. You raise your bare wrist and tap it, as if showing him a watch face. Time’s up, dude.

The DJ gives you another nod. He grins even wider.

The reggaeton fades away, replaced with the familiar guitar-heavy opening of a song. Even so, it takes you a few bars to recognize exactly what you’re hearing.

When you put it together, you laugh again, harder. It’s a song by the band that you’re here to see that got heavy radio play a few years back, popular enough that even you, a casual fan by the loosest definition, know every word. It’s remixed, of course, but the crowd goes absolutely wild with anticipation. Smart.

The slightly smug look on the DJ’s face makes you want to be contrary for the sake of the game, though, so you shrug through your laughter. It’s a mixed message since you can’t help but sway along to the music, but that’s fine.

He hasn’t spoken for the duration of the set, but as the last chorus of the song comes around, he reaches for the microphone.

“Getting excited?”

His voice is deep, slightly nasal, and tinged with a kind of whine that makes you wonder what other tones he can take on, in other situations.

The crowd whoops back, a little half-hearted, but he grins. “I can tell.”

You’ve never encountered a person of so few words, because he doesn’t say anything else as he taps and mixes his way through the end of the track. And it ends, resounding, as the DJ pulls his hood back up and settles it carelessly over his dark shaggy hair.

“You’ve been great,” he says, leaning into the microphone as he disconnects his laptop from the rest of the system. “Catch you later.”

It’s a casual goodbye, and you’d be a little disappointed to see him go, except for the fact that he sends you another grin and a little nod toward the opposite corner of the room. Toward the backstage access door, you realize.

He can’t be serious.

Despite the daydreams you’ve made in this room over the years, despite your deep fascination with this man and his intentions, you don’t want to look overeager. You really don’t want to go running to the stage door like a teenage groupie, no matter how interesting or cute of a guy is trying to link up.

The stage crew takes away the DJ setup, and lowers the arrangement for the band. The instruments come out, and the lights cycle through a quick test.

And then the headlining band comes on, with no sign of your DJ.

Must not’ve been that serious.

You’ll enjoy the concert, anyway. Comfortable at your high-seater table, with a drink and a good view over the bouncing crowd, you settle in for the rest of the night.

About three songs into the set, there’s a hand on your shoulder. You turn around, expecting a drunk girl doing whatever it is drunk girls do but not-so-secretly hoping-

The DJ.

Smiling, standing there just behind your seat. He says something, but you can’t hear him over the roar of the band. You just regard him for a moment, his pretty face and his dark hoodie.

It would be a shame to lose this prime seat, and even more of a shame to miss the main act that you paid to see.

You stand up, carefully check that you have all your belongings, and you walk toward the exit.

He's behind you, all the way. You can hear his footsteps. But before you can make it to the outside door, there's a hand on your shoulder, slim fingers and heavy rings.

"You actually trying to dip out?" he asks.

"Did you want me to stay?"

He shrugs broad shoulders, peering at you from under his hood. "If you wanted."

It's not even a closet, but a hallway.

Backstage, mostly dark, dingy crushed velvet on the walls. An ill-kempt attempt at luxury, smelling strongly of cigarette smoke and dust.

It feels kind of nice against you, though, as your DJ crowds you between it and himself.

Hurried, is the word for it. His jeans are down just enough, your bottoms moved out of the way. Both of you still fully dressed. There's no time for formalities, no need for more intimacy than this. His attention from the stage was like foreplay, and his fingers up your thigh, between your legs, was even more.

When he buries himself in you, you swear you see stars.

"Don't you wanna tell me your name?" he asks, into your hair.

You wonder wryly if he wants a name to moan. Something to hold onto, while he loses himself in you.

You fix his hoodie on top of his fluffy hair, brush your fingers down his face.

"Ask me next time."

According to my readings the person changkyun is dating is the same person he broke up with earlier this year(that you mentioned in your april reading). It’s someone who loves him a lot and has done a lot for him and who he also loves and is dependent on a lot(it’s the only person he has loved and opened his heart to aside from his first love that left him very damaged). They have been together for quite some time but they have known each other before they started dating through a mutual friend.They have been together on and off at least since feb 2021(thats when i started doing reading for mx and they were together at the time) but they have broken up a couple times mostly because of his career and problems in communicating and gotten back together and they(mostly he) even saw other people during the times they weren’t together but not seriously ofc mostly one night stands/casuals .I dont know if they are connected spiritual in any way(twin flames/soulmates/any karmic connection) but they see each other as soulmates and each others other half and they have a very deep and honest connection.
