Kuroo Tetsurō x Reader
Soulmate AU
born from conversations with @shoulmate 💚 (not edited or beta read)
Tumblr media
Warm sand tickled the bottom of your feet. Digging your toes deeper into the beach you watched your friends play volleyball from your spot on a towel.
University finals were over. As soon as the last exam finished you packed your bags to join your friends for a much needed vacation.
You sat beside Kozume under a large umbrella enjoying the salt air and the crash of the waves. And of course the view of swim trunk, baseball caps, and sunglasses.
Kuroo, Bokuto, and Akaashi were shirtless and sweaty only a few yards away. Alongside other friends the bunch of you had made at Tokyo University. But those three in particular were the sweetest eye candy.
Your fingers slipped under the thick wristband you wore to cover your soulmark. Rubbing the name if your soulmate unconsciously, until Kozume cleared his throat giving you a look. Adjusting your sunglasses on your face you pretended not to notice his stare.
Your friends knew you were one of the few with a soulmate, but you had never shared with them who is was. Kozume, however, was too observant and you suspected he knew. Gratefully he never said anything or pushed you about it.
It happened right before you started high school. You were with your parents filling out paperwork after moving to a new area. Scrolling endlessly on your phone, bored out of your mind, when the skin on your wrist exploded in pain as if on fire. Gasping you cuddled your arm to your chest, tears pricking your eyes.
Curious faces turned towards you. Some confused, others shocked at the outburst. It wasn’t until your parents pried your arm from your body did the realization finally set in. You had gotten a soulmark.
Having a soulmark wasn’t common. Most people knew someone in their extended family or group of friends who had one. They appeared randomly during your mid to late teens if you got one. And not everyone saw it as a blessing.
The mark was a name. The name of your soulmate. But your soulmate would not have a mark. Just having the mark didn’t mean they were close by or did it mean you’d ever meet them.
This caused a lot of problems in relationships. Either you held out for a soulmate who never came or one would randomly pop into your life after you had already settled down with someone else.
But your teenage heart had high hopes that couldn’t be dashed by your parents’ realistic and logical words. It wasn’t that they weren’t happy for you. They just didn’t want their precious child’s heart crushed by this Kuroo Tetsurō whom they didn’t know.
You met Kuroo right after starting high school. He was a year above you. And he was perfect. Handsome, funny, athletic, intelligent, talented, and kind.
Well, you didn’t actually meet him. You heard the name Kuroo Tetsurō and your wrist throbbed alongside your heart in excitement. You rushed to tell him who you were.
That’s when you realized it was no blessing but a curse upon your wrist.
Kuroo was a member of the volleyball team. A second year pillar of the team. Relied upon by his seniors and juniors. His athletic prowess alone was intimidating. Yet he was also studious, beloved by the teachers. He was surrounded his teammates and by fans. Pretty girls, handsome boys.
You tried to worm your way through the crowd to talk to him but the glares you got stopped you in your tracks.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” A voice snapped.
An elbow dug into your ribs, “we were here first.”
Wincing you took a step back from the throng of people. Clutching your arm, you rubbed your wrist. An action you always seemed to do to quell your anxiety. You looked for another way through the crowd. It wasn’t as though you had to tell him today but you wanted to be with your soulmate as soon as possible, believing in a happily ever after.
You could see his head above the others. If only you could get Kuroo’s attention somehow. Trying again to squeeze through the sea of people it wasn’t until someone grabbed your arm did you stop.
The girl had wrenched your arm back trying to see your wrist. “Oh shit you have a soulmark!” You panicked trying to pull yourself free. “Lemme see who it is! Is it one of the guys on the team?”
Ripping your arm back before she could see the name, you gave her a nasty glare. But the damage had been done. Curious faces heard her exclamation and turned towards you.
Another girl lurched towards you and you took a step back. “A soulmark? How neat!”
“Seriously?” Her friend looked suspicious, “she’s gotta be one of maybe 5 people at this school.”
“Who is it?” Someone curious spoke you couldn’t see, “whose name is her mark?”
Nearby a girl scrunched up her nose in disbelief, “Really. Idoubt it. Probably wrote it with sharpie.” She rolled her eyes and the people around her laughed.
“How pathetic,” another scathing voice, “who would want to be tied down to her?”
You couldn’t even see the people laughing at you anymore. Nails biting into the skin of your wrist, you hugged the name Kuroo Tetsurō to your chest. If your legs didn’t give out, your lungs would. You couldn’t breathe.
“I feel sorry for her soulmate.”
“Make her wash her hands and prove it’s real.”
Their words cut deep. Self deprecating thoughts filled your mind. You knew they were just petty but you couldn’t help the tears from forming. Suddenly you didn’t want to meet your soulmate. A burst of strength let you rush off before they could see you cry. Later you thought of ways to hide your mark.
Somehow you had made it through high school without anyone finding out the name on your wrist. A thick wrist band covered the name and you never took it off unless to shower.
A feat especially hard after befriending Kozume Kenma. You shared class with him all three years. After finding out the two of you enjoyed the same video games, a friendship grew and solidified. Unfortunately, that also meant that Kuroo was part of your friends group. Your soulmark wasn’t done cursing you.
Even without the soulmark you liked Kuroo. You couldn’t meet his sharp feline gaze when he seldom spoke to you. Just being around him made you rub the skin beneath the band on your wrist uncontrollably. Your face felt like a furnace anytime he caught you staring, and you stared a lot. And smiled. You didn’t even realize you would just have this dopey grin on your face. Not until Kozume pointed it out. Another reason why you think he knows.
And because of your cowardice, you had to watch Kuroo date other people. You had no one to blame but yourself. But every time you thought to end your misery by spilling your secret, you imagined him asking why it took you so long. Or that he only saw you as a friend.
The feeling of a hand on your arm snapped you from your inner mind. Kozume had grabbed your wrist to prevent you from injuring yourself. It wouldn’t be the first time you’d rubbed the soulmark raw. He called your name and you met his worried golden eyes.
“Sorry,” you tried to laugh it off, “I was spacing out.” Kozume frowned. He opened his mouth but you stood cutting him off. “I think I’m going to wade in a bit. Try and cool off some.”
Dusting off a bit of sand you made your way to the waves without waiting for a response. The water was cool as it gently lapped at your legs. A shiver went down your spine at the temperature difference between the ocean and the hot sun.
A figure sliding beside you made you jump, slipping on the wet sand. Grabbing the person who startled you to avoid plummeting into the ocean, you weren’t expecting intense yellow eyes to stare down at you.
“I scare you that bad?” Kuroo cackled. “I did call your name you know.”
He helped you stabilize yourself and you regretfully released his bicep. The raven stretched, joints cracking. You did your best to not completely ogle him from behind your shades.
“What are you doing over here? I thought you were playing volleyball?”
“Drink break,” broad shoulders shrugged, “gotta stay hydrated.” Kuroo had the gall to wink at you.
You nodded, staying silent. Gazing at the open ocean, unsuccessfully trying to quell your beating heart. Cold water splashed your sides. You shot Kuroo’s smirking face a glare.
“What’s on your mind?” He splashed you again. “You’re even more quiet than usual.”
“Quit that,” you scowled.
He wiggled a finger in your face, “now that’s not very nice. I’m just trying to be friendly.”
“You have plenty of friends to bother.”
“True,” he acknowledged with an obnoxious grin, “but I’d rather bother you.”
You rolled your eyes, splashing him back. Glancing back at your friends you saw Bokuto animatedly telling a story keeping his audience enraptured. Snorting you shook your head, guess Kuroo really was free right now.
“Hey,” squinting you looked back to Kuroo who was pointing to your wrist, “aren’t you worried about the salt water eating through that?”
Tugging at the wrist band you shrugged, “I guess. But it’s not like I can’t get another one.”
“Why not take it off? We are on vacation after all. And who knows you might even meet them here.” Glad Kuroo wasn’t looking at you, you couldn’t help but squeeze your wrist. He was gazing out at the ocean but continued, “if I had a soulmate I know I’d be trying everything to meet them.”
“You don’t seem to need help in that department. You’ve always got girls around you.”
Kuroo frowned looking down at you. “And if you haven’t noticed, not once has any date worked out.”
Snapping the soggy wrist band against the soulmark you couldn’t help asking, “what if…” You floundered uncomfortable under the raven’s intense gaze. “What if, when you met them, you didn’t think it would work?”
Dark eyebrows skyrocketed over his sunglasses, “you’ve already met them? Did you tell them?”
You flinched from his incredulous tone, avoiding meeting his eyes. Shifting your weight you rubbed harder at the name on your wrist.
“Hey,” Kuroo softly called your name, “talk to me.” Why did he look so sad? Not knowing what to say, how to explain, you didn’t speak. He pushes his shades to the top of his head to look at you better despite the bright sunlight. His voice was gentle, “why do you think it wouldn’t work?”
Salt stung at your wrist as the flesh peeled from the harsh friction. You knew you were standing in the surf but it felt like you were being dragged down to the ocean depths.
Kuroo’s body was completely facing you now. You had his full attention. No calling of his name by Bokuto could distract him from you. His rough fingers caressed your arms, trying to keep you from a panic attack. Tears pricked at your eyes.
“I’m not,” you choked out, stopping to clear your throat, “I don’t think… I’m just, just not. And he, he’s… amazing.”
Fingers slid up your arms to grab your face. Both of Kuroo’s large hands cupped your jaw as he looked at you sternly. “Stop that right now,” he growled, “anyone would be lucky to have you as their soulmate. If you don’t stop with this bullshit I’ll start listing reasons at the top of my lungs.” You gaped at him. “I’ll sing them too if it’ll stop you from crying. Poorly I might add.” Using his thumbs to wipe your tears running from under your dark sunglasses, he kept speaking. His voice softer now, “I mean it.”
You couldn’t help but stare at him. He was leaning so close that your noses almost touched. Yellow eyes deeper and brighter than the sun baring down overhead. A mixture of sweat and ocean spray glistened on his skin. Already messed raven hair held down by his sunglasses and whipped every direction by the cool breeze.
“What if it was you,” not even sure he could hear you, you whispered, “what if my soulmate was you? Would you still want a soulmate then?”
Kuroo took a shaky breathe, licking his lips. Using his thumbs, he slowly pushes your shades to the top of your head. “If it were me,” fingers gently traced your jawline, “I’d want to know why you didn’t tell me. If it were me, I’d kiss you until we were both breathless. If it were me, I’d make sure we were never apart for the rest of our lives. Because if it were me who had such an amazing soulmate, there’s nothing less I could do than give you everything.” Hot breath danced across your lips. His golden gaze searching, with a prayer held inside. Reverently, he whispered your name. “Show me, so I can finally kiss you.”
Biting your lip, you fiddled with the soaked wristband hiding your soulmark. Hands shaking you held your wrist up to him. A moment passed before he realized, you wanted him to remove it. One hand moved along your arm while the other rested against your neck. Silently searching your eyes for permission, he removed the offending cover.
There on your wrist, was his name. Kuroo Tetsurō.
Not a moment later was his mouth on yours. And the soulmark curse trapping your heart was finally broken.

Fireflies. Lightning bugs. Whatever you want to call them, they still glow in response. As a child it’s all you looked forward to in the hot summer evenings. When the sun would go down enough to not leave beads of sweat cascading down your neck but still up enough that you could see the grass. You wished you could see the color they glowed but, not unlike most you had yet to find your soulmate.
Sometimes if distressed you more than others. You couldn’t have a favorite color when nothing had one. How could you live like this your whole life? Your parents would console you by describing the colors as best they could. The fireflies flashed a shade of yellow-green that looked like how the breeze in early spring smelled. The freshness of the morning dew still hanging off the grass and leaves. In fall when the leaves changed to reds, yellows, and oranges. They explained red felt like coming home after a long trip away, the warmth in your chest as you embraced the comfort of your bed. Yellow felt like finding a lighthouse, a warning not to come too close but delight at reaching land. The delight of finding something. Orange was like the flames that flickered through the crisp winter air. The brilliance that they were able to produce in the chilling air.
While the descriptions helped it still didn’t take away all of the sadness. It was unfair that some people could find their soulmates so easily. Why couldn’t you find yours as easily as others? What if they didn’t like you? Your parents settled that one by reminding you that soulmates were meant to be the other half of you. Not all romantic in nature, some had platonic relations with theirs. Either way it was someone who helped lift you up when you felt down. Your parents hated the phrase that soulmates completed you. A person does not complete you, only you have the power to do that. The second you give someone the power to take part of you away you already became less than you were before.
You also worried about meeting them and not knowing. You would often ask for the story of your parents meeting. They told it slightly differently depending on when you asked them. If they were together it would be “They didn’t like me at first but I charmed them.” And if you asked them separately the reading tone was gone. While neither claimed that it was love at first sight it was a like. An interest in the other person about why the universe had made the other for them. “Their eyes, they were so mesmerizing. I felt like I understood why the universe made me wait so long. I would not have appreciated the way their eyes danced upon the light in my teens. Heck even in my early twenties. But everything clicked when I heard them say my name.”
The stories made you hopeful but also lovesick. “Good things come to those who wait.” A repeated phrase especially when it came to soulmates. If it was so good, why make you wait? You would appreciate them. Your child brain didn’t understand why you didn’t have yours when you had already waited plenty long. In highschool you started to realize the kids who had met their soulmates young missed out. The yearning for someone to love. But that was only a starting realization as you still hoped you would run into them.
Currently your friend is trying to drag you to a volleyball game. How nice of our friends to try and take us to events we don’t want to go to. You’ll also understand the irony a bit later.
“Come on Y/N!” She pulled your arm in the direction that could be assumed to be the gym. You held firm though and literally dragged your heels.
“No. I’ve told you. I have no interest in going, I can’t tonight anyways.” You sighed and could feel the start of a headache.
“Why can’t you?”
“Class project. Remember? You have one too.” You rolled your eyes and pulled out your phone. After a quick scan through your photos you found the one you wanted. A picture that had the details of the project.
“Oh come on. It says it’s not due for another two weeks.” She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Surely you can skip one night?”
“Sorry. I’ll make it up to you and get some candy for you on the way to school.” She glared but agreed disheartened.
“Fine. But you have to go to one game. Please?”
“Maybe.” She took that as a yes. It would come back to bite you later. For now though she waved as she headed off towards the gym. You headed to your house. Head off in the clouds. You liked to stop and smell the flowers most days. The way people interacted with each other. How the mom greeted her child. The warmth that radiated from the hug. The closeness. The love. Most people went to all possible social gatherings to try and meet their soulmate but you didn’t like crowds. Let alone people pushing and yelling in your ear. Maybe one day you would cater to your friend’s whims. Today was not that day though.
You talked to your friend on your way home. Mostly because they were spamming you. You didn’t understand why they went to the game if she was just going to play on her phone the whole time. Finally though she confessed that she was hoping to find your soulmate. What a dream. To go to the same school as your soulmate. You thought you didn’t have that kind of luck though, let alone having a soulmate on a popular team? No you can scratch that. Not gonna happen.
When you finally arrived home you were exhausted but still had a project to do so you stayed up late to finish it. By the time you were done your neighbor arrived home. His room was across from yours and you would contact each other by the rudimentary cup phone system you made. Enjoying the anonymity you agreed not to give your names or show faces. You sat with your back to the window when you felt a tug on the string. You picked up the cup.
“Hey stranger.”
“Hey yourself. What are you doing up so late?”
You sighed and rubbed your eyes. “I was finishing a project.”
“The one you said wasn’t due for another like two weeks?” He laughed and that brought a smile to your face.
“Yeah, it means I can have time in class for myself.”
“Oh yeah? What are you gonna do instead of your class work?”
“Probably read. I got a new book yesterday and I’m so excited to start it!” Excitement filled your voice and he could see your arms lift excitedly. The curtain blocked you from view but the light made a good enough shadow.
“Tell me about it?” He yawned but tried to hide it. It was his favorite part of the day. When he got to hear you ramble about the things you loved. It made him regret that stupid promise he made. Maybe if you just looked into his eyes you would see the world. One small peek and the two of you could be happy. Or you could be disappointed. He understood why you brought it up. Being friends was enough and the thoughts of soulmates just made everything so much more complicated.
“No, go to bed sleepyhead. I can hear you yawning. Both of us are tired.” He hummed and you smiled once again. Your dropping eyes made it difficult to pay attention to much.
“Fine, I don’t have anything afterschool so we’ll talk more tomorrow yeah?”
“Yeah. Goodbye, stranger.”
“Goodbye stranger.”
The next day had been hectic to say the least. The closer you got to the end of the day though the better. You could feel a smile growing at being able to talk to him again. Your friend, ever helpful, decided to point this out. “What’s got you all smiley? Wait, don’t tell me…stranger boy?”
Your face heated up but nodded. “He’s not doing anything after school and neither am I. So, we’re gonna talk more today.”
“You guys literally talk everyday. What’s gonna happen when we graduate?”
“I’ll think about it when we get closer to graduation. For now let me have my moment of ignorant bliss.” You smiled shyly and moved your food around on the plate.
The bell went off again and you rushed to your next class. On the way you bumped into someone. You said a quick apology and started off again. The boy was taken aback by the quick interaction and watched as you walked off. He thought you were quite beautiful. He couldn’t dwell on that though, he also had a class to get to. After all, the faster the day goes by the closer he gets to talking with his stranger.
Finally, the time has arrived. You barely said hello to your parents as you rushed to your room. You closed the curtain and waited for the telltale tug at the rope. You hoped you hadn’t seemed too eager. Just as thoughts of doubt filled your head a string tugged them out.
“Hello, hello, stranger.”
“My, my, someone picked up quickly.” You rolled your eyes.
“Can I not be excited? You judging me over there stranger?” You heard him laugh. It was such a nice sound.
“I would never. How could you say such a thing.” He paused for a second. Thinking about something. “I’m graduating soon. And I’d rather not lose this friendship.” He stuttered a bit over the word friendship. I mean how would one define this relationship? You had been talking far too long to be actual strangers. However, neither of you knew what the other looked like. Let alone your names.
“We can exchange phone numbers. There, easy peasy.”
“Are you graduating soon?”
“Yeah, it’s funny we didn’t even know we were in the same year. For all we talk you would think it would come up at some point.”
“It is a little funny isn’t it?” This time you were laying down on your window seat. Cup lazily placed next to your ear.
“Anything interesting happen today, stranger?”
“Not really, it kind of went by in a blur. I honestly wasn’t paying that much attention.”
“Aww, was someone excited to talk to little old me?” Although you sounded confident, the goofy smile and hear of your face told a different story.
“Don’t act all high and mighty,” he coughed. “You picked up awful fast.”
“Mhm. And? What about it?”
“I thought I was the flirt in this relationship?”
“Alright, romance me then.”
“That’s not how this works. I’m not a song, you can’t just play me whenever you feel like.”
“Uh huh. I hear an awful lot of talk from someone too chicken to actually flirt with me.”
“I can flirt, I bet you can’t. This is projecting is what it is.” That made you sit up. Projecting? Nope, you’ve never heard such slander.
“You’re far too kind. I bet your face is as kind as your voice.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your voice makes me relax. Like after a long day there’s something to come back to. No matter how tired either one of us is, we still find comfort in each other. You’re my comfort.”
“I’m honored. For the record, you’re my comfort too.” A smile etched itself onto you face.
“You should be. That’s high praise coming from me. Oh my, I hadn’t even realized how late it was getting. Don’t you have stuff before school tomorrow?”
“Thank you so much for pointing that out. I’m sorry we had to cut it short.”
“Don’t worry about it, we stayed up way too late yesterday. Count it as makeup sleep from then.”
“Alright, goodnight stranger.”
“Goodnight stranger.”

hold on [ kuroo tetsurō x reader ] [ soulmate! au ]
⌙ kuroo has been against love since the very beginning, but maybe you can give him something to hold onto.
when you love someone, and they break your heart   don’t give up on love, have faith restart
part of the love is on it’s way series [masterlist]
word count: 2.2k
genre: fluff? kinda? maybe a little angst
warnings: timeskip spoilers, arguments
Tumblr media
ever since he was young, kuroo has had multiple interactions with lady luck.
but he knows that she’s not picking on him for every single thing he does, because he’s had one too many valuable experiences throughout his life that, when he looks back on, makes a soft smile break out on his face in content. he’s well aware that lady luck has been especially kind with his friendships- he’s so thankful for every single person in his life, but he’d be caught dead before being sentimental to their faces. she’s also been generous with his success and his smarts, and while he knows that he worked hard in school, opportunities like his didn’t come out of thin air.
kuroo tetsurō knows that he’s living a life that others would kill to have, and he’s appreciative of his good luck; he wouldn’t change the opportunities that he was given for anything. but with all the good that lady luck has given him, he can’t help but bear the overwhelming weight of hating the one thing that others hold so dear to their heart, the thing that clutches the hearts of everyone around him so tightly and refuses to let go.
he thinks that people who believe in love- in their soulmates, specifically- are foolish. not stupid, or dumb, just unaware of the deceitful illusion that was marred onto their skin that they believe to be their ‘one, true person’. they’re fools because they haven’t seen what love can do to people. it’s destructive, dangerous, an unstable hallucination that people cling to on the belief that it’ll make them happy, and it’ll satisfy their need to be loved. their expectations of love blind them from the reality of a fabricated assurance that was never actually promised to them- just idealized in order to create a society that was dead set on believing.
but believing wasn’t enough, not whenever you’re a product of a  mother and father who separated because their love for each other had crashed and faded away into nothing-ness. it was obvious, after a short period of time, that they were tired of pretending; the fighting, the screaming, and sometimes even short bouts of violence that haunted his childhood. he remembers crying himself to sleep nearly every night.
kuroo despises that people can love blindly. he doesn’t see a reason why a phrase that magically appears once you turn eighteen should determine who you’re supposed to fall in love with. he used to argue that he hated soulmates because there was no scientific reason behind them, that it was almost impossible for the universe to have a perfect match for everyone, but even his science-obsessed self couldn’t put it off for so long (he got tired of saying “magic isn’t real, so why are soulmates?”). so he decided that his person would be a person he chooses, not someone that was picked out for him.
but after numerous arguments with his friends, he stopped bringing it up. nobody besides kenma, his best friend, knew why he was so against soulmates, and he wanted it to stay that way.
when he turned eighteen, kuroo can’t say that he wasn’t a little bit excited to see his tattoo, his tattoo that would show what the first thing his ‘soulmate’ was going to say to him. it was like a mystery game; was it going to be something funny, a witty pick-up line, maybe? or was it going to be an apology- maybe you two bumped into each other on accident. the possibilities were endless, and it was exciting to see what would be on his skin forever. but there was no way that he believed in soulmates, or that this person would be his person forever.
but when his tattoo finally showed up, at the ass crack of dawn on his birthday, right on the inside of his pinky finger (which was really weird, because he’s never seen that on any of his seniors, ever), he knew that lady luck was on his side.
‘sorry, but no.’
it was almost ironic- actually, it was totally ironic, that the first things his soulmate would say to him was something so bland and boring. it actually gave him a sense of relief, knowing that the first thing that this person would say to him is a dismissive apology, and it only fueled his distain for soulmates even more.
the satisfaction that he got eventually led to him forgetting about his mark, and it helped him focus on his future. in a way, he was thankful for his soulmate for his tremendous success.
it helped him live more freely, to live without restraint, when he talked to people. it was almost impossible to completely avoid the topic of soulmates, but he didn’t care. he wasn’t worried about what others thought of him, because it was his life. he lived it however he wanted. and if there was anything that his mark told him, it was that his soulmate wasn’t interested in him either.
kuroo was incredibly charismatic, and he knew how to keep a conversation. he knew of so many things, old and new, that kept everyone he was talking to on his toes. he flirted endlessly with people, and it didn’t hurt his feelings when someone turned him down. he knew how people were fully committed to a person they had yet to meet, or had already fallen in love with. he respected other people’s decision, because he knew what is was like when people disrespected his.
but lady luck had a twisted sense of humor.
it was just supposed to be a get together with his friend, bokuto. catching up, he called it, after months of being busy with their adult lives. the two sat at a fancy restaurant (past them would never believe that they’d be successful enough to spend this much money on food), dressed head to toe in suits that made the middle-class drool with envy.
“still not feelin’ the whole soulmate thing, huh?” bokuto asked, closing the menu. there was so many options it was overwhelming, but he knew what he wanted (he wasn’t the type to explore his tastebuds).
“don’t think i ever will,” kuroo replied, meeting bokuto’s teasing eye contact.
“that’s so funny,” the professional volleyball player said. kuroo was proud that one of his closest friends got so far with  his passion, but who in their right mind would let an overgrown child on the court?
“how so?” he prompted.
bokuto grinned, leaning onto the table. he was cautious not to knock over the expensive alcohol. “i met someone the other day,” he said; kuroo groaned, and he awaited for an upcoming tale of what he assumed to be bokuto’s soulmate encounter, but was instead met with: “who has the same feeling about soulmates that you do.”
“oh really?” kuroo had met a select few who had the same thought process as him. well, theirs more steered on the ‘how can a soul be split in two’ while his was more like ‘i’ve seen how faulty soulmates can be’.
“yup,” bokuto said, popping the ‘p’, "you guys should talk!"
"i think i'm okay," kuroo responded, taking a delicate sip of his whiskey. it stung as it went down, but what's to enjoy in life if there's little pain?
"no, seriously," bokuto stated, getting his phone out of his coat pocket. "you guys should talk. you two have a lot in common."
the noirette rolled his eyes, leaning back in the cushioned chair. "how so?"
"you guys both can't get a date." bokuto grinned, holding the phone up to his ear, “let's see if she picks up."
"haha," kuroo said, voice monotone, "very funny." he was a little ticked that bokuto was calling a girl during thier friend-date, but once bokuto had his mind set on something, trying to get him to stop was impossible.
he saw bokuto’s eyes gleam with mischief when the ringing stopped, and kuroo thought he heard a “what do you want?” coming from the other end.
“you know how you talked about never being able to get a date?” bokuto asked. he didn’t wait for your response before he handed the phone to kuroo with an overly eager nod.
“sorry, but no.”
kuroo’s throat went dry as his mind instantly raced to the words that were tattooed on his the inside of his smallest finger. suddenly, he’s anxious. his heart stops, and his hands are starting to get sweaty. he doesn’t know what to say-
“i’m not going on a date with you, bo.”
it doesn’t make sense, kuroo thinks. you weren’t talking to him, you didn’t know he was the one who had his phone to his ear, so how- just how were those the same words that were supposed help him find his other half?
the lack of response obviously confused you, and he heard a small ‘bo?’ from the other side of the phone. he couldn’t help it, he told himself, that he thought your voice sounded beautiful. you were supposed to be perfect to him, but there’s no way that you were actually meant for him. so with a wary glance towards his friend, kuroo got himself together.
“well, that’s just not nice.” he said. he’s surprised he didn’t stutter, with how his heart was still racing. maybe it’s the faint amount of alcohol in his veins that provided little comfort, but he’d take what he could get.
for a moment, kuroo is afraid. he’s afraid you’ll hang up on him, because if bokuto said you two have the same view on soulmates, he feels like you’d run away. not because you’re scared of the commitment, but because you know what being a soulmate entails. he knows that the most frightening thing to him is being forced to love someone, and the endless possibilities that could follow. he’s afraid because he doesn’t know the outcome, and he assumes you feel the same way. he tells himself that it doesn’t mean anything if you hang up.
but you stutter for a second, at a loss for words, just like he was. there’s silence on your side, and he knows you figured out that you’re supposed to be meant for each other. he waits for it, the monotonous beeping to show that you’ve ended the call, but-
“have you met bo?” you ask, voice quiet. “he’s-“
“a lot,” kuroo finishes, and he knows that he’s done for.
he’s lived his whole life telling himself that the connection and relief you feel when you meet your soulmate isn’t real. he rejected the thought of soulmates since he was little. but even he can’t ignore the feeling of his swelling heart as a smile breaks across his face. it’s an overwhelming sense of comfort that flows through his body, and he can’t do anything to dwell the overall pleasantness that he feels inside from just talking to you.
you, his soulmate, the person he told himself he was never going to give a fading chance because there's no way that he'd love someone just because the universe told him to. you, his soulmate, the person that he wants to hate so much because he doesn't believe in a love that's set in stone for him. you, his soulmate, the person that he didn't choose.
“yeah, a lot,” you agree, and he hears you let out a small chuckle- it’s a blessing to his ears, “and ugly.”
kuroo laughs, because that’s definitely not how anyone would describe the professional volleyball player, and he knows you say it in jest.
“you wouldn’t go on a date with him because he’s ugly?” he asks, saying it loud and clear for bokuto to hear. his friend lets out a loud ‘hey!’, loud enough for you to hear, and his suspicions are only confirmed when he hears you let out a snicker. the conversation is cut short when the phone is snatched out of his hands, and kuroo laughs again as bokuto hangs up the call after telling you ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’
"i'll send you her number," bokuto says with a pout on his face. and kuroo can't wait. once he feels the vibration of a notification that bokuto did, in fact, send your contact to him. he doesn't hesitate to send you a quick text.
[kuroo tetsurō to you]      would you go on a date with me?
he curses lady luck. he's mad that, within a span of less than two minutes, he might change his mind on soulmates. he's scared because he knows that, if he goes along with what fate has in store for him, he might get hurt. he can't lie and say that your voice wasn't magic to his ears, and that he can't wait to hear it again, but he has to pace himself. if he throws all the caution that his past has given him, he's can't help but think that his parents divorce would have taught him nothing.
but it was so easy to talk to you, even if it was to make fun of your mutual friend. even as bokuto's pouting at him from across the table, kuroo can't fight the grin that's been on his face for the past few minutes.
[you to kuroo tetsurō]      idk, are you ugly too?
kuroo just hopes that you're both willing to give this whole soulmates thing a chance.

Stay Forever
Tumblr media
Pairing : Kuroo x Reader
Genre : Fluff
Warning : None
Word Count : 197
A/N : Guess the movie reference in the comment! It’s a romcom movie
masterlist
"Can I stay a little longer?" He asked, looking at you. Both eyes are locked on eachother.
You look down at his hand, grabbing it slowly. Intertwined your fingers with his. If soulmates are real, then Kuroo is yours. It was as if the gap between your finger are made for him only. His heart raced waiting for your answer as you brought his hand to your lap.
He looks at you softly, eyes filled by so much adoration and his love to you. How could a person makes someone feel so helpless and everything at the same time. You took in the look in his eyes again. Sometimes you feel that you don’t deserve his love, cause frankly you didn’t really believe in love.
The imagine of someone loving another person that much has always been an enigma in your mind. How? Why? You always push everything from your world. Everything on your world has always been temporary. Their presence never last long in your life, but maybe, just maybe this can be the one thing you keep for the rest of your life.
“Stay forever.” You said
And that is all he need to hear.

》 Strangers Masterlist
Tumblr media
Not everyone is blessed with a soulmate.
Since having a soulmate bond is rare, it made you feel special. To have a certain someone out there just for you, it made your heart beat a little faster as anticipation crept up to you.
You've spent countless days daydreaming about the one you're destined to be with. You often wondered if you'll get the spark when the two of you meet that your mother gushes about as she reminicised about her first meeting with your father.
You let out a sigh as you traced the faint undistinguishable lines slowly forming as you grow older.
Looking at your parents, they seem to be happy being with one another. You only hoped that you and him will be like that someday.
So when it finally made itself visible on your 15th birthday, you were more than elated.
You stared at your wrist with shock and amazement. Obviously, you expected this ever since you were young but you didn't expect it to be.. him.
Overwhelming emotions took over you. You felt giddy, excited and you were longing to meet him. In your state of happiness, you didn't even notice the curious looks your volleyball crazed friends give to you.
Hinata whined as he tried to grab your arm, only for you to turn away. "LET ME LOOK-" Kageyama, his soulmate, quickly smacked him upside the head. "Oi! Boke! Let Y/n have her moment! What does it say..." His voice died down as he read what was on your wrist. The name slowly turning gray as the two of you stared at it.
You felt your heart drop into your stomach.
"W-what's happening.." You mumbled, still not believing your eyes. It can't be.
Your body went into shock as your eyes went wide and you felt your mouth go dry. Hinata, who already peeked over your wrist could only stare in disbelief at the mark .
"No way..." He breathed out as his gaze locked into Kageyama's mirroring the confusion and shock on heir face.
Kageyama and Hinata looked at you worried expressions, they can feel their heart breaking alongside yours.
When your soulmate's name fades into gray it means he/she decided to be with someone who doesnt have a soulmate. Basically rejecting your bond and making you soulmateless.
All those daydreams of him down the drain.
All those stupid scenarios you created with a fairly domestic life with your destined flew out the window.
You looked at them with a closed and teary eyed smile and laughed "Why are you guys looking so glum? I'll be fine." Hinata pulled you into his arms, letting you let out the unshed tears.
He already broke your heart even if you haven't met yet.
"Akaashi..." Bokuto was oddly quiet, he stared at his wrist with unknown emotion swriling in his eyes.
Akaashi already knew what was going on as dread enters his system. Will Koutaro leave him for his destined soulmate? Or will he stay with him?
Either way, no one is safe from getting hurt.
"I got my mark.. I guess that they're a first year.." Bokuto mumbled, golden eyes still transfixed at the writing on his arm. Akaashi bit his lip and looked. "I guess so too.."
Koutaro looked at him and gently cupped his face and stared at his gunmetal eyes. "Keiji.. You already know I made a promise to you."
Akaashi's eyes welled up with unshed tears as he gingerly placed a shaky hand on rop of Bokuto's "What if you find her better than me?"
"I won't. You're the only one for me." Bokuto tells his lover, sealing their lips with a reassuring kiss.
You felt like throwing up.
The bus barely moved and you were about to throw your guts out. You don't know wether it's from nervousness or you just suddenly got severe carsickness. Probably both.
The bundle of nerves in your stomach gradually grows as the bus you're in gets farther and farther away the school grounds.
Asahi eyed worryingly as he rubbed small circles on your back, "You don't have to attend it Y/n.. You can still get off the bus, we haven't left Miyagi yet." He chuckled, attempting to make you feel better. Afew chorus of agreements filled the bus.
You shook your head and gave him a small smile, "Im a manager, I need to do my duty to take care of you guys. And this-" You pointed at your wrist. "-Won't hinder me from functioning like I normally will." You heard a snort somewhere in the bus which made you growl. That damn dino nerd, you made sure to send him a glare while he just acted like nothing happened.
Asahi ignored the sound as he fought the urge to laugh as he nodded along, scared to upset his kouhai even more. "If you say so.."
"Didn't you say you want to cover the mark?" Sugawara piped up, his head peeking above the seat infront of you. He tilted his head slightly as you nodded and snapped your fingers.
"Oh yeah! Let me go grab my concealer.. Thanks for the reminder Koushi senpai!" As you finished concealing, you showed it to the third years which made them nod in approval.
The squeaking of shoes and volleyball hitting the floor made your nervousness grow as you helped Takeda sensei lug out the things that you'll be using during your stay. Takeda probably noticed your state as he smiled and patted your back. "You'll be fine."
You sighed mentally as you gave your teacher a curt nod. I hope so too.
Once you stepped inside, oh you were absolutely not fine. Why?
Because you saw him looking around and asking for you.
You hid behind a beanpole tall blonde which happens to be your classmate stingyshima. He looked down and gave you an inquisitive stare.
"What are you doing stupid? That's going to make you stand out even more." He rolled his eyes as you sent a glare to him. "Shut it you bastard, this is the only help you can offer me."
"Tsk. Who said I was helping you?" He looked down to meet your annoyed gaze with his mocking ones.
"Well you would've already stepped aside- Hey!" You exclaimed as he did what you told.
Luckily no one heard you, or so you thought.
Konoha hummed to himself, looking at you with amusement.
"Found her."

𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 02 — puzzle piece.
Tumblr media
𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫. kuroo. yes, ik that's not who you requested. im a piece of shit, aren't i 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭. comfort, 1k. slightly implied soulmate!au. 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭. by @sun-setter (thank you!!).
Tumblr media
✧・゚: *➝ you’re my missing puzzle piece,
There had probably been nothing special at all about today, and certainly nothing out of the ordinary in your kiss goodnight. Both of your days had been fairly dull, although mutually noted to be better when with each other. The light went out, and Kuroo glued his eyes to the dimmed ceiling. He was a little cold, and pulled the duvet up so that it reached his shoulders. You seemed to notice this, and pushed yourself closer to him, wrapping one arm over his waist.
“Love you,” you whispered drowsily. Was being his soulmate why you could read his mind? But no, he thought, if you could read his mind, you would probably develop a fear of him. His thoughts were so obsessed with you that he knew he wouldn’t be sleeping any time soon.
✧・゚: *➝ finally, I solved it,
There was probably nothing special about this moment, but to Kuroo, it was so, so valuable. He didn't get as many chances as he wanted to fall asleep with you. Other parts of his life stole that time and he couldn't get it back. He treasured every second with you — so dearly it stung his chest. He thought back to a few weeks ago, when he'd been kissing you and whispering all sorts of random thoughts, personal things, ideas and dreams. The sort of thing that, if he'd told it to anyone else, would be judged and sidelined. But you did no such thing. You dreamed with him. As if you really, truly understood some element of him that no one else could or ever would.
Another image — when he met you someplace for lunch. The way you'd laughed at one of his comments that day, and the way he’d had to take a second glance at you. And this morning, when you'd texted him. And last year, that face you’d made when he bought the two of you those matching bracelets. And the way you, imprinted with the patience of the stars, had told him, believing himself undeserving of someone like you, so many times, that wholehearted love was the only love he deserved.
And the sound of you breathing in the darkness.
Right here, right now.
You.
✧・゚: *➝ you filled every piece of my heart,
Before he knew it, Kuroo was crying. Not silent tears, as per his usual, but sharp, shuddering sobs. He took your half-limp hand in his and brought it to his lips, kissing it over and over.
“Tetsu?” you mumbled. “Baby, are you okay? I'm right here.”
He turned so that he was facing you. His chest was still heaving and you could hear his shallow breaths as he attempted to regain control of his composure — to no avail. He caged you in his arms, pressing slow and hot kisses to your jaw and neck.
“Yes, you're — you're here, and I —” A kiss to your shoulder, and a desperate gasp. “I love you. I love you so much. I'm sorry. I love you.” He continued to ramble, sounding hurried as if he was worried he wouldn't be able to say it enough times to make up for something.
“It's okay, Tetsuro, love,” you said. You weren't sure what was upsetting him, but you wanted him to know it would all work out. Because it would.
To Kuroo, you were all that mattered. He was so grateful for you, for every second you'd spent with him. He couldn't understand how you could still choose to love him after seeing all the ugly sides of him, all the things that managed to break his composure. His chest was still tight, and he ran his hand in the back of your hair, gently pushing your lips into his as he kissed you over and over. You were like a piece of him. Something he'd been missing all his life, and now that he had you he didn't know what to do with you because was just so in love.
✧・゚: *➝ even the scarred part of it to the fullest,
“I love you,” he said for what must have been the hundred and eleventh time. “There is no question whether you are all I could want. Having a soulmate like you is more than I deserve but I—”
You chuckled. “No, baby, it’s the other way around.”
Kuroo’s narrow eyes searched desperately for yours in the darkness, in vain.
“I mean it,” you said. “You’re perfect, baby. I don’t care what you’ve been told or what you’ve made yourself believe. I’m grateful your heart beats every day, Tetsuro.”
It filled him — consumed him with the desire to return all of it back to you tenfold. “I don’t know if it’s possible to love you more,” he whispered. “You’ve turned me into such a mushy guy.”
✧・゚: *➝ and somehow, you’ve become my everything,
“You’ve always been a mushy guy, love,” you said, audibly smiling.
“Yeah? I don’t think so.”
“It’s always been in there somewhere,” you told him, pressing a few fingers to his broad chest. “Waiting for the right time. Oh, don’t go pretending you’ve always been a tough guy, you little shit.”
He sighed, clasping your hand in his. “Well. You too, then.”
“Me too, what?” you said.
“I love you,” he said.
“I love you too,” you responded.
“That’s redundant.”
“You’re redundant.”
Kuroo laughed and pulled you into his chest. You were so warm. Alive. “Au contraire. You don’t make me feel redundant,” he mumbled. “You make me feel like the luckiest and most important guy in the world.”
“Likewise,” you muttered, fingering the fabric of his shirt. Your hands relaxed, and soon you did too.
✧・゚: *➝ my missing puzzle piece.

hi!! for the soulmate series can i request atsumu or kuroo n the soulmate thing being either the red string or the last words ur soulmate says being on ur wrist/ribs (aka angst tee hee) u can decide!!! <3
hq boys and soulmates
suna, kuroo, kenma
Tumblr media
PAIRING: kuroo tetsuro x reader
GENRE: fluff to ANGST
WARNING: death | mentions of blood | minor cursing
a/n: thank you anon for requesting! agh, honestly i had a hard time choosing between kuroo or atsumu because both characters fit the genre and plot i have in mind (kudos to you anon for the great character choice). i haven't been writing angst lately so i think this is a breather for me as a writer. also, you've provided me with two options for soulmate indicators (red string of fate and last words) i incorporated both indicators cos i think both ideas are great and go well together so i hope you like this~
Tumblr media
your fingers fiddle around the sapphire stone that latches your red bracelet as you fixed your eyes at the begging screen of your computer. the screen of your laptop has been flashing the same website for the last twenty minutes or so and you are well aware that you are wasting energy by letting the machine stay awake without touching it. your legs are folded to your chest as your arms hugged around it. subsequently, your chin is resting on top of your knees. the door cracks open, rather violently, to a familiar raven haired boy.
"hey, im here." you jolt in surprise although the tone of his voice is low and calm. your foot pushes against the base of the wooden table where your laptop is to move your swivel chair to the direction of the friendly intruder. your eyes landed to him and right before you could say your greeting a light caramel headed boy peaks his head at the side of the door frame.
"yaku?" you say. your eyebrow tilting in surprise.
"hi." he flashes you a teeth showing smile. his eyes almost disappearing as he does so. "i heard about the admission test so brought something extra for you." hearing the word 'admission test' from someone makes your heart drop to the floor. you have been friends with yakuㅡwith the whole nekoma team, to be precise, but hearing it from someone other than kuroo feels odd. your bond with the latter is on another level of comfort. usually, he's the first person you approach when serious topics are needed to be discussed. yaku pulls out what seems like a bottle of champagne behind his back. "please, empty this bottle whatever happens." he shoots you a gentle smile that it almost feels like a reassuring hug that everything will be alright.
"sure, as you say so." you reply with a smile on your face. with his tender words you were able to pick your heart back up from the ground and fix it right inside your chest again. it feels good to have people cheering you on without the pressure of expectations. you feel accepted despite your shortcomings.
"i have somewhere to go so ill leave you both, bye!" yaku pushes the bottle to kuroo's chest and by instinct he grips around it with caution using his forearm. you mirror yaku as he waves you goodbye. you shift your eyes to kuroo who's standing awkwardly near the entrance of your apartment. you noticed a pizza box in one hand and a plastic bag on his other hand.
"pizza and ice cream?" your eyes widen at the food he brought. he knew about the events today and he even offered staying with you throughout the process without you uttering a request to him but you didn't expect him to bring food as well.
"im glad you finally noticed my existence." he says making his way to the kitchen. he continues, "good thing i brought my favorite ice cream flavor instead of what you want. i feel so unappreciated." you find it cute how he blabbers about not getting half of your attention when yaku appeard by the door.
"no way, you brought mint choco?!" your feet touches the ground as it pushes your wheeled chair near the kitchen to see kuroo in full sight.
"yes way." he nods as he removes the tab from the plastic bag.
"no! who eats mint choco anyways?!" you put your face in your hands as you imagine the taste of toothpaste in your mouth.
"i was kidding! and mint choco does not taste like toothpaste! god, you hurt my feelings twice in a row." he flips the cover of the ice cream to your direction so you could read the lid. "it's two-in-one tub. one is mint choco the other is cookies and cream. it's both of our favorites in one so i thought it's best to buy this."
a smile creeps to your face. the room is filled with silence as you keep your eyes at the boy navigating in your kitchen. he opens the fridge with one hand while his other puts the ice cream inside the freezer. you've been friends with him the longest. you stopped counting years once you reached a full decade, arguing that it's pointless to count your history with him when you know you'd spend the rest of your future with him. he grabs a glass from the cupboard. you bite your bottom lips when a smile grows. he peers at you sees your face. he questions it.
"what?" he furrows his eyebrows at you.
"i made you cucumber and lemon water. it's in the bottom layer of the fridge." his body immediately jolts up and his eyes glimmered in joy. he loves drinking 'flavored water' when he's eating greasy food like pizza, though, you had no idea about him bringing food. so, everything was a coincidence which makes the whole thing more surprising. "you have a weird taste." you murmur to yourself as you pull yourself back to your desk, smiling to yourself as your mind replays his reaction in your head.
"i heard you." he says shortly after joining you. he places the glass with cucumber water on your table before bringing an extra chair from the kitchen.
"i made it sure you heard me." you bicker, watching him grab onto his drink and sit in the chair.
"ill give you a pass today." he says through the rim of the glass. he rolls his eyes at you before he turns his face to the other side, throwing his head back as he drinks.
you have always been his loudest cheer on the court whenever he has a match. you were always ready to risk your vocal chords for him as you continuously cheer him on. in truth, the crowd knows you as the number one fan of the raven boy and you never bothered being labeled as the passionate lover of the captain of nekoma. although, the word lover in those two words were only platonic. both of you often catch a dating rumour but you two would always clear it off by saying that you're only 'bestfriends'. and it's true. it has always been true; or it's how you wanted to believe in.
however, today kuroo is making his loudest cheer. the roles are reversed as he plays the role of the passionate lover of the pending medicine student. his way of cheering you on isn't through his voice but rather through proximity. he makes sure to be with you during an important event in your life. he wanted to witness it with his own eyes and that's his way of saying he's got your back.
"when does it come out?" he says after gulping his drink in one go. the bottom lid of the glass cries in a loud tud as it meets with the wooden table. you peer at the digital clock on your desk.
3:58pm
"around 4pm so anytime now." you shudder at the thought. your pending doom is at bay. in any minute now it's either you're screaming in triumph or crying in despair. you inhale and your airways tightens. you heart beats fast although you are sedentary to your seat. beads of sweat start to form on your forehead and your palms went cold.
"kuroo, i can't do it." your voice came out in a whimper. you turn your body to him and instantly burry your face on his shoulder. his fingers interlocks with you hair before gently patting the back of your head.
"shh, it'll be alright. whatever the result is im proud of you. you worked hard and did your best. that alone is remarkable and is something to be proud of." he hushes you and you face digs deeper. you can feel the tears starting to pool on your bottom eyelids. you don't want to cry because once you start crying it takes forever for you to stop. as if the universe wanted to see more of your distress, your laptop dings when notification went off. your hand instantly finds it way up to his biceps. you squeeze it hard as your heartbeat starts to deafen your senses.
"hey, breathe." he notices anxiety and fear starting to engulf your thinking.
"i-i can't do it." you plea to him. you never liked this side of yourself since you always appear strong and competent in the eyes of everyone but with kuroo you never felt the need to protect your vulnerability. with him, it never feels wrong to be you.
"do you want me to check it?" he nears his mouth to your ears. his voice soothing the tension that surrounds you. your back curves down and your fingers dig further into his skin. you nod. you feel his body lean forward as he reaches for your laptop. you hear a few clicks here and there before the room falls silent once again. the air chokes you as you realize he's probably looking at the results now. he pushes you by the shoulders, your back still crunched down and your chin glued to your chest. you frown at the sudden motion.
"look at me." his finger tilts your head up to face him. your eyes lock with his but the tears resting on your lids blurry your vision. suddenly, he smiles so wide like a mad man. "we are eating that fucking pizza." your eyebrow twitches up at his vague statement and your mouth ajar as he pushes himself off to stand. "you fucking passed, you smart idiot! you got into medicine school! what the actual fuck?!" he screams on top of his lungs. his hands are on his head, bewildered by the situation. he looks at your frozen state. he turns your swivel chair around to your laptop and he crunches down to level your gaze. "read it."
your eyes scan at the huge 'congratulations' written in green and immediately jumps from your seat in euphoria. you didn't even bothered finishing the sentence as you rush to kuroo's embrace and began jumping together. the both of you looking like fools as you both scream and jump in unison.
kuroo witnessed every bit of your sleepless nights and bottomless coffee drinks as you review for medical school. from the beginning, becoming a doctor has always been your goal and being a great volleyball player was his'. both of you made a promise to support each other in your journey to reach your goals. that being said, when you were reviewing for medical school admission test he was your cadaverㅡa living breathing cadaver. to be fair, he makes a great cadaver since he has a lean body so it's easier for you to name parts in an actual person. you would make him stand still in your apartment, topless, as you point on different sections and parts of a human body.
"cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral." you say as you trail your finger from his neck down his tailbone. "four sections of the spine." you mutter to yourself.
"you're just finding an excuse to touch me." he says turning his head to face you. you slightly leap to your toes as you aim for the back of his head. your hand pushes his head down.
"fuck off, kuroo." you scowl at him. he laughs at your disgusted face. his torso turns to you and your eyes immediately land on the side of his ribs, reading the words engraved on his skin.
"stay with me." the words fall out of your mouth as you read it. everyone in this world is born with words or phrases permanently written at the right side of their ribs. those words are said to be the last words of your soulmate. paired with that is a red bracelet that hangs on your wrist. it's known as the red string of fate. it's a simple red leather cord bracelet embellished with a birth stone latch. every child upon birth is taken to the highest scared mountain in japan that is said to be the nearest connection to heaven. parents bring their child's umbilical cord for it to be preserved inside a birthstone then tied around a red bracelet. it is believed that a soulmate's soul are bounded together until conception. so, the umbilical cord symbolizes the moment the two souls separate. however, when your other half dies your bracelet, otherwise known as the red string of fate, breaks apart along with the birthstone that connects it. your eyes peer at kuroo and a soft smile plays on your lips.
"sounds like you're a heartbreaker." you tease him.
"i refuse to believe that. im a good boy, i don't go around breaking hearts." you snort as he swats your hand off him. he squints his eyes at you. "what does your says?" you tilt your head in confidence. you pull your shirt up just enough for him to see the words.
"i love you." he whispers to himself as he reads it. he immediately recoils. "your soulmate is a sucker! they're a walking hopeless romantic cliché!" you ball your fist and jokingly punches his side.
"aw, what was that?!" he rubs on the spot where your jab landed.
"right lumbar region of your abdominal quadrant! it's where the ascending colon, small intestine, and right kidney are found!" your voice increases as you shoot him an angry look.
"you look stupid." he laughs at your creased face.
the overjoyed jumping and screaming have finally died down so you push kuroo at an arm length, tilting your head up to see his face.
"i made a deal with myself if i passed the test." you say still hugging him. your intertwined hands fall right the at curve of his lower back. you smile at him as you continue, "im treating you out."
"really?" his smile grows wider. "treating me to what?"
"the chill top at the hotel you've been eyeing since day one."
"that's expensive!" he lets go of the hug as he looks down at you intently.
"for my expensive boy." you wink at him. you free yourself from him. you pull out your phone from the pocket of your sweatpants. "im making a reservation. meet me at 10pm?"
"sure." he says. you share glances for a few seconds as if he wanted to say something but it's taking him time to decide. so, you wait for him. after a few seconds the corners of his lips pulls up and his eyes coated with affection. he speaks again. "i made a deal with myself too."
"oh, great minds think alike?" you say making him air laugh.
"it's not as grand as yours, though. i told myself if you passed it it's a sign that i have to tell you it."
"what's 'it'?" you ask.
"meet me at 10pm?" he repeats your words. you are already dying in curiosity with what he is planning on telling you but you figured it's best to follow his plan.
"okay." you say through your smile.
time rolls out quicker than you intended. you spent the last two hours before 10pm with just trying to pick a nice outfit. you powdered your face and styled your hair differently today. you made sure to come to the chill top first just so you could calm your nerves down because for some reasons you feel anxious yet euphoric all at the same time. your eyes scan at time flashed on the screen of your phone.
9:45pm
he still has a couple of minutes before ten. your screen burns brighter when a text pops in. you click on the inbox icon to read.
"i made my final stop over." you frown at the word 'stop over'. you type in a reply.
"stop over?? aren't you coming from your place?" you hit send before placing your phone down on the table. randomly, the rain starts to pour. good thing, the roof of the chill top is transparent so you're covered from the rain and at the same time you could still see the sky. your phone beeps.
"geez, it's raining hard." kuroo sent a text.
"drive safely, please. don't worry about the reservation im already at our table."
"now i feel worse. sorry for making you wait."
"i dont care about the wait!! eyes on the road!!" you put the screen of your phone down. your phone vibrates again but you refuse to pick it up. if we keep texting back there's no way he's leaving his phone.
the dj has played tons of music from various artists and you even sang to a few of them as you wait for him. the rain hasn't stopped yet so you decided to watch it pour to kill time. maybe it's just the vibe of the weather but your mind goes through the idea of kuroo and you. the only reason you denied rumours and feelings for him is because you didn't want to put him in a spotlight. for a person like kuroo who finds it hard to warm up to a romantic relationship, it's almost impossible for him to think about the possibility of the two of you. contrary to him, your mind went through those thoughts countless times usually fueled by your other friends who questions your platonic relationship with him. you love his company and you most certainly value your relationship with him more than anyone in this world. honestly, you'd choose him in a heartbeat both romantically and platonically. undoubtly, he would do the same platonically but in terms of romance, everything is a blur for you. besides, you have no courage to bring it up since you didn't want to ruin the friendship.
your phone rings, continuously, signaling you an incoming call. you turn your phone over and kenma's name reads on the screen. you are confused at the sudden phonecall. kenma isn't the phonecall type of guy and you know that.
"hello?" you voice came out slow.
"____, hi." he's breathless. "is kuroo there? he said he'd meet you up by ten but it's twenty minutes before eleven." you pull your phone away from your ear and your screen flashes the time.
10:38pm. shit.
your finger glides through your screen then taps on the message icon. you read his last text that was sent around 9:53pm.
"im near the hotel, can't wait to see you!" your heart drops.
"kenma, around 9:53pm he sent me a text saying he's near the hotel. he wouldn't call a 30 minutes distance 'near', right? no, wait. maybe he's joking. you know we tease each other a lot." you managed to let out a deflated laugh to lighten up the mood.
"no, you don't understand." his tone is flat and unnerving. the music played by the dj starts to muffle as you shift your focus to kenma's voice. your fingers press harder on the back of your phone against your ear. "yaku gave him a lift today because the brakes of his car is a bit wonky. it does work well on dry pavement but not on slippery streets. he didn't expect it to rain tonight that's why he insisted on driving. i tried to stop him but instead he promised to send me a text when he gets there but until now, still no text." your eyes study the rain pouring on the roof of the chill top.
"he should've told me! i could've give him a ride." you heart hammers against your chest as you pull your eyes down to the table. he's so stupid for making that decision. he's so stupid for being careless. he's stupid for making you both worry.
"he didn't want to because he had plans before before meeting with you. he said it will spoil the fun." kenma says and you're loss for words. both of you have no idea where kuroo is and if he's okay. your phone vibrates again. you tear the device away from your ear to scan the caller i.d.
unknown number.
"kenma, someone's calling me ill call you back later." you quickly say and hears kenma bid you a soft goodbye. you finger instantly swipes over the answer button, hoping that it's kuroo who just ran out of phone battery.
"hello?" you utter.
"hello, ____? you are the recent contact of the E.R. patient who just got here." a middle aged woman says from the other line. your mind shuts off the moment she said 'patient'.
"patient?" your voice came out in a whimper, more like a plea for her to tell you otherwise.
"yes, i believe his name is kuroo tetsuro. a man around 20s, athlete, and he's driving a car going to mizuka hotel around 10pm before the accident happened. he's in the emergency room right now. he had severe bleeding when he came in but he's doing better."
"can you please tell me the address of the hospital.' you manage to say though your fingers start to shake and you're sitting at the edge of your seat. you seem lose control over your limbs as your other hand start to rummage inside your bag, searching for a pen and paper. you hand clutches on a ballpen and you immediately grab the tissue lying on the table. you squeeze the phone between your shoulder and you ear as you write down the address the woman was saying. you bid her goodbye and instantly dialed kenma's number. he answers after one ring.
"kenma." your voice quivers and soon enough tears start rolling down your cheeks. "he's in the hospital." you hear kenma curse under his breath.
"text me the address ill get there as soon as possible. if you need to keep the line active then don't worry about it. ill keep you company. please, drive safely." you shoot up from your seat before grabbing your bag. you hear keys tinkling from the other line.
"you too." your feet takes you out of the restaurant.
you see kenma by the nurse's station. you figured he arrived first since the hospital is nearer his place but he's considerate enough to wait for you since he knows your current unruly state. you approach the station with him. your hands fixed at the marble top. a nurse with a bright smile attends to you.
"patient kuroo tetsuro? car accident." you hurriedly say with your eyes wide waiting for the nurse to reply.
"farthest end." she slightly leans forward to you before raising her hand to point. "the patient with a bouquet resting between his legs." the nurse smiles in endearment as she shakes her head.
"a what?" maybe it's just your mind not processing everything clearly or did you hear the nurse say bouquet?
"come on." kenma grunts before pulling you by the wrist.
you reach the farthest cubicle of the emergency room. each cubicle is separated by a white curtain. your fingers coil around the white linen as you shut your eyes close before pulling it open. you don't move and you even let go of the curtain in your grip. you don't want to see kuroo in this state. you don't know if you could take seeing him pooled with blood and beaten up. you just can't. you never imagined for this day to come, not even in your nightmares.
"why are you shutting your eyes close?" a familiar voice calls for your attention making you abruptly peels your eyes. you vision lands on a towering man lying on a blood stained bed. you hands cover your mouth as you examine his physical state.
"what did the doctor say? are you okay?" you say through your cupped mouth as you inch your way next to him. the view upclose is even more upsetting. you can see bruises around his temples and at the crest of his cheeks. his bottom lip is cracked and swollen. a needle is pierced through back of his hand and it leads up to a bag of blood hanged next to his bed. he smiles at you.
"in a few minutes now they will run a test on me 'cause when i came here i was excessively bleeding without an open wound. they mentioned something about a possible trauma. im not sure. you understand those things better than me." he smirks at you before winking. he's being playful despite the pain he's feeling. he continues,
"for the record, kenma, i was a careful and slow driver. a car hit a trailer truck who raced to beat the red light. so, the container it was carrying fell on us. i knew you'd scold me but it isn't my fault, okay."
"still, you shouldn't have drived but i'll scold you later." kenma says rolling his eyes at him.
"because i have to drop by a shop. that being said, do me a favor and turn around and cover your ears i have something to tell ____ before i go." kuroo says and you cringe at the word 'go'. it could mean more than just leaving you two behind for tests. you can't help but despise his choice of word. surprisingly, kenma obliges. his small back faces the two of you as he covers his ears with his hands.
"save it later." you brush him off as your way of jinxing the bad omen you felt. the you don't like the way he speaks like it's uttering his last statements. you can't bear hearing him say those things. you'd like to keep an open mind by thinking of the future.
"no, i feel the need to say it now." kuroo's tone of voice shifts. you bite your jaw as you furrow your eyebrows at him. he crunches forward to reach for the flower bouquet between his legs. "for you." he places it next to you before flashing you a smile.
"you don't have to." you say and in an instant your cheeks are painted with tears as you sob between words. your other hand clutches on the stem of the roses while the other squeezes his hand.
"i love you." the three words came out of his mouth. your hand lets go of the bouquet to reach of his face. your fingers trail from the top of his head down to his jawline. your chest staggers between cries. your face nears his'. your lips find its way to his swollen ones. his eyes flutter close when you slowly inch your way to plant a kiss on his mouth. your lips gently touches with his', careful enough not to cause him pain. his lips are soft despite the cracks. it's your first time kissing him intimately. you draw back from the peck and lock eyes with him. his pupils are dilated and tears start to pool at the bottom of his eyelids. albeit, he keeps a smile.
"so, please." you swallow the lump in your throat and your finger grips tighter around hand. "stay with me."
the moment the realized the weight of the words spoken, you begin to panic. the soulmate indicator. the last words engraved on our ribs. he's your soulmate. your instantly pull your wandering thoughts when kuroo chokes on blood and begins spitting it out of his mouth. his muscles stiffens and begins to shake. he's having a seizure. you let go of his hand to examine his eyes.
"kuroo, stay with me. keep your eyes open. im right here." the seizures stops and your fingers press against his pulse while the back of your hand is under his nose. he's not breathing. you push yourself up to his bed. your knees at the side of his hips. your dominant hand intertwines between the crack of your other hand. you look at kenma who held a horrified face.
"kenma! tell the doctors the patient is on cardiac arrest!" you shout at him to pull him back to his sense. he turns his head to you, his mouth gaped open as he runs out of the cubicle. you begin to perform CPR.
"i love you too i haven't told you that yet" your joined hand press down to his chest.
"don't die on me, kuroo, please. you told me you are not the type to go around beaking hearts but you're breaking my heart right now!" you scream at him before putting your fingers back to his pulse but still no sign of a heartbeat. you go through another round of chest compressions.
"DAMN IT, KUROO! DON'T FUCKING DIE ON ME!" you voice heightens as the heels of your hand press harder down to his chest. his mouth falls open and you begin to tremble in fear. a nurse pulls you down from the bed and ushered kenma to keep you at a distance. the doctors and nurses conduct their work simultaneously.
your knees touch the ground in defeat and you whole body feels numb. the remains of his blood stained your hand and you're left with nothing to do but stare at it. kenma kneels down next to you. his hand is rubbing your back while he keeps is eyes glued to kuroo's cubicle.
soon after, a doctor emerges and walks toward the two of you. he anchors his stethoscope around his neck and mutters the words you badly didn't want to hear.
"im sorry for your loss."
you back heaves up and down as you try to catch your breath between howls. kenma pulls you into an embrace. you rest your forehead at the crook of his shoulder as you grip onto his skin. he runs his hand through your hair trying to calm you down even though he can't stop himself from wailing. a few moments later, he pushes you back at an arm length.
"you should take this." his voice is wornout and heavy. his hand digs inside the pocket of his pants. he pulls out a red bracelet. "i saw this on the floor when i came back with the doctors." he holds the back of your hand before flipping it over. the red leather and cold stone touches your palm. when his hand leaves, your eyes welcome your broken red bracelet. your birthstone is in pieces and the red string of fate is unlatched.
your soulmate is gone.

“Find me,” the strange knight in your maritime dream says, pressing a piece of paper in your palm.
He is bound by chains up to his neck and you don’t even get to hear his name. No. You hear his crimes over and over again. Glancing back at the authorities who for lack of better words, sit on a jade throne, you hear a woman’s voice say off to the depths of the sea for you have touched what is not yours. You glance back at the guards holding his shoulders down, you notice he winces at them, but to you he winks. A teasing smirk is what you see beneath his cut up lip. You attempt to run toward him, yet you cannot move. Someone holds you back and your hair falls over your shoulders.
“Let me go,” you’re voice is desperate. “Don’t do this.”
Cries of the innocent are always the worse when it comes from a place of love. The bound man calls out to you, telling you it’ll be alright. You’ll find him, you always do just like you did when you both were children; just like you did when the kitchen stewards brought back Fuji apples; and when he found you slumped over unconscious during a raid in the east wing something inside him snapped. He protected you, knew your secrets, like anyone would. To accuse him of treason for being in love with someone not promised to another, that was his only crime.
His eyes are telling you he’s terrified. Terrified of not seeing you again, or calming you down when you are on the rampage of breaking traditions. Terrified he won’t see your face light up again. Everything you did with him replays in his memory.
He loves you, you know. Ever since his father taught him to wield a sword. Ever since he saw the other child running around the lord’s house playing hide and seek with the nanny who couldn’t keep track of the mischievous little noble.
You are in love him, you reason. You wait for him to be done with his duties for the day; the swords are put away. The newer recruits are on garden patrol duty to sort of ease them into the long nights. Tonight though, you are waiting in a hallway and when you hear your friend’s voice echoing giving the final orders out for the night duties to his superior, with his footsteps approaching, you grab onto his arm and he helps in surprise. You make a silent sign to be quiet and he and you stifle a laugh. He reminds you that you’re both a little too old to play this game when he greets you, a hand of yours brought to his lips, but you shake your head.
Since when did this fluster you so? He wants to know, so with a little encouragement, he whispers to you to take a step back. He doesn’t want you to get caught for what he’s about to do. His voice tells you to look up at him, his hands have long since let yours go. One cups your cheek and you lean into the palm, and he steals your first kiss. You steal it back like a thief who would do anything to satisfy their greed. Luckily, his chambers aren’t too far from here, so he asks you if you’re sure you trust him enough to not get carried away. You make a suggestion that if you fell asleep, he had to make some plausible excuse to be carrying you back to your own chambers.
Neither of you say the words that would change your dynamic. But it is understood in the way your eyes betray the feeling of camaraderie between you.
The realization hits you like a wave in slow motion: the man bound glances at you with an understanding devotion, he mouths out a final declaration of love before he is struck unconscious and thrown into the murky sea. You turn your back toward who you presume are older reincarnations of your parental figure and before their guards lay a finger on your finer silks, you head straight for the starboard side and plunge hands first into the ocean.
Vividly dreaming is one thing, but keeping a lucid dream journal was another. You write down what you witnessed in said dreamland. The man of the hour in your dream has hair the color of charcoal, burgundy and black clothing, and a commoner’s prayer beads on his wrist. When you have a moment to recount this tale, you try to go back to sleep to see if you can open the folded piece of paper. You never find out what was written on there, yet all the dreams are strung together after a tough week at work. Apparently from what you were allowed to relive in dreamland, your lover from the dream died when you too were about to meet your premature demise.
Today, of all days, is the celebration of the coming of age. It’s a crisp morning when you don your pair of high heels and a powerful statement of a white and ivory pants suit. Your neighbor is a hair stylist and she comes over around nine that morning to adorn your hair with flowers and trinkets. A small blue bird barett holds your bangs in place, a phone rings, and before you could bat an eye, you thank “Saeko-one chan” for leaving you the small flower wreath for your head. Being a botanist for the local tower gardens in the concrete jungle makes your peers seem a bit suspicious of the ‘mad scientist from 332 W.’
After swiping your metro card, you’re finally in the city square. Families are all smiles, taking photos of their grown children. Some cry when they see their young adult take over their family shops (or trades); others with more blue collar jobs nearly jump for joy seeing that their success is based on talent and merit (like the doctors and lawyers aiding the vox populi.) then there’s you. You’ve been on your own for as long as you can remember, so when an old friend from high school spots you in the crowd, you brace yourself for a loud welcome.
“Ya came?!” the familiar voice exclaims. The person who owns that voice makes way toward where you stand by the roasted yams. For a brief moment, you take a whiff of the sweet, sweet potatoes, then in the next, your feet don’t touch the ground. A pair of sturdy arms raises you into a tight hug.
“O’course I did,” you smirk, patting their arms to drop you. “Wouldn’t miss this for the world.”
When he places you on the ground, he doesn’t seem to let you go. Both of you make short comments about the way your outfits compliment each other. Two young twenty-something’s in pants suits isn’t all that uncommon, but you chose to wear a lab coat over your periwinkle blouse, it makes sense; your friend on the other hand wore a crisp Oxford shirt with a tie you recognize as his uniform one from high school. You sort of laugh at his predicament, but you offer some sage saying along the lines of, ‘humble origins, huh?’.
You notice his kid brother is with his parents on the other side of the grassy knoll. Although this kid brother is only seven thanks in part of your friend’s father remarrying shortly after they had begun dating. You don’t make such a fuss over family dynamics, although your friend gripes with his father remarrying six months after the ink had dried, but you don’t challenge it when you see the stepmother show up to your place when the shouting begun.
“You can talk to Tetsu, ok? Please. He’ll listen to you,” she frowns, patting her four month swollen stomach. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
She holds your hand, a nervous teary smile graces her face when she lays her hand atop your head. The woman blames her hormones going out of whack, however you remember the bitterness your friend felt when this lady showed up to their doorstep a little more than a month after the divorce was finalized in your third year of high school much to your friend’s surprise.
You agree to talk to your friend the moment the final insult was thrown from his father to his son. A door slams, and you glance at the woman who mouths a thank you before she walks back to her new home.
Your friend rolls his eyes at her when she greets him kindness in her tone, but he pays it no mind. Surely at eighteen, his mind is still dealing with this development. Sometimes, there are things your other neighbor is good for, like playing games to distract him from the reality that is his home life. You immediately recall your licorice haired friend saying that the ‘game master,’ had an interview for an entrepreneurship, so no one would be home for the next two days. The argument subsided, there is a quiet rage in your blood, so you extinguished the fires there before you’d use logic to fix the calamity in his life.
You sit in the living room of your own home and grab a hold of your phone from the charging stand. You scroll the contacts and while you don’t hesitate toward pressing the call button, you’re weary of the acidity on the other end:
“What do you want?”
“Do you want to come over?”
“No.”
“I wasn’t asking Tetsuro.”
An aggravated sigh escaped his lips before he went on a cathartic rant. You had listened to what he had to say, clearly those walls aren’t thin enough anymore. (Your parents thankfully had to work a little later tonight since the weekend was coming up, so you figured you had about two hours to yourself before they came home.) He hesitates before you end the call and you open your door. Carmel glossed eyes stare back at you before he hugs your shorter frame tightly. You don’t have a chance to hug him back because of how tightly he clings to you. You take a few steps back, he loosens his grip, inviting him inside. He lets you hold his hand as you walk toward the couch facing the entertainment center now. When you sit down first, he lays himself down on your lap. A haughty sigh escapes his lips as you run a hand through his stubborn hair.
“You need to forgive them,” you say after ten minutes of tensed silence.
“How can I? Nimia-san isn’t my mother,” his voice is childish, earning him a pinch on his cheek by you. He yelps, rubbing the reddening area.
“She may not be your mother, but your father adores her,” you remind him.
The wedding was in the spring, the reception was held in a swank ballroom in downtown Tokyo. You find your friend nursing a cider while your own parents congratulate their neighbor in finding true happiness. Your sapphire colored dress sways when you feel someone pull you backwards until you hear a familiar, “oof.” There is laughter and pain behind those eyes, but you make no comment on them tonight (or any night before this fight).
You stick to him like glue and his new stepmother speaks with your father animatedly about how there might be something brewing between you both. You wave politely before you feel Kuroo’s hand in the small of your back. He tells you he likes your perfume when he whispers a quiet, ‘thank you.’ you glance up before nodding, sliding closer to him. If he were a bit braver, he might have kissed you, he restrains himself when you pull his hand around your waist from the small of your back. Your hand rests atop his as he gives you a playful glance. You remind him to wait for a couple of minutes before doing anything with you, like dancing. You claim he needed to be a little more sober to remember this, yet you’re going to need a little more alcohol before you let him lead. This all felt like Deja Vu to you, so you make a note to write about this party later. He asks if you’re alright, yet you tell him you have a pensive look because he still had his hand searing itself on the fabric of your dress. Sooner or later a waiter with a mimosa tray stops by and you pick up the champagne flute.
Presently, an pouting Kuroo is on your lap, his knees press against the back of the couch he loved sharing with you.
“I know,” he grumbles into your shirt.
“…so you want to talk about it?”
You stop carding your hand through the ebony soft spikes for a moment. He shakes his head, asking you to keep the ministrations going via kissing the inside of the same wrist he held before placing it back on his head.
“You like this,” you tease. He shrugs again, causing you to call him, “silly kitty.”
“Mm,” he kisses your wrist once more. “Perhaps.”
He looks to the ceiling, and you felt a bit courageous than before. You pause your ministrations for a second and when you blink, you see a flower meadow, and just like that, you found yourself reliving the best parts of what your dreamselves allowed. Kuroo must have seen it too, because you both are brought back to this reality when he tells you it’s ok to kiss him.
“I-you want me to?”
Kuroo sits up, and this time, he pulls you to sit comfortably on his lap.
“Better?” his voice is sincere when he leans in to rest his head on your shoulder.
“Mmhm. Oh, and one more thing,” your hand rests against his exposed cheek when you tilt his chin up slightly. You kiss him teasingly slow, amused by how long it takes him to register what occurred. His flustered self holds onto your waist tighter, claiming how you stole his first kiss without realizing it, but you are a jester magician. You foolishly tell him he’s been single since middle school because of volleyball. And he laughs, he finally laughs with you and he teeters to one side until you’re both laying on the couch, nose to nose. He lets you in on a secret: he’s been having the same recurring dream about a person in finer silks and every now and then, his wrists will ache and he doesn’t know why. With you here, in front of him, he protects you from falling off the couch, he feels he the wrist pain subside.
By the time your parents came home, they found the two of you asleep on the couch, your father texted Nimia a photo of you two huddled together under the blanket made of yarn…it’s the first photo Kuroo hangs in his university apartment when you show him the frame you bought as is “good luck” present. He’s the first and last to see you at the airport when you’re the one who leaves the metropolitan area to pursue botany elsewhere. He gives you a sunflower pen because it felt like you’d be taking all the sunshine with you…
“Ne-chan!” The little boy runs up to you at full speed when you kneel down with arms wide.
“Hi there,” you greet when he pulls you into a hug. “You’re a lot stronger than last time, kid.”
The little one laughs just like his much older brother. The three of you walk together to where the other youths are gathering. Kuroo is to your right and you’re on the left, meaning a seven year old half brother walks between you. Younger Kuroo is filling you in on tales of the second grade. He makes you laugh about halfway through reciting his two times multiplication tables; his smile and his hair is unmistakably inherited by his father. The heterochromia eyes made him uniquely his mother too. Golden and green hazel eyes of the infant now seven are typically trained on his brother and you. Especially today when you laugh at a silly joke.
“Hey wanna hear something funny Tetsu-ni ?” his voice reaches your ears when he holds your hand.
“Sure kiddo,” your friend replies.
“I’m gonna marry yn-onee-san one day!”
Kuroo stops functioning properly and he is stuttering like a madman. You, on the other hand, blink thrice times before computing what was said aloud. Both of you look at this child like he grew a third head; you and Kuroo exchange a look of bewilderment. Does the little guy know something you don’t? You think you know a guy for about sixteen years been friends for a little over a decade when you finally saw through the rose colored glasses of your teenage years. Kuroo is too busy to notice how you clear your throat as he sticks his hand in his pockets.
“Excuse me?” your voice finds you way before either of them continue (or at the very least you didn’t want them to argue, although it was endearing at best).
“I said i’m gonna marry yn-ones-san one day,” he giggles. When you ask him why, he sort of spills brotherly secrets:
“Ni-chan always says you’re this kind, oh! And you get along with Kenma-san and and you’re pretty like a princess! And that he can’t sleep without hearing you, so he replays the record of the voicemail from his graduation day…”
Your eyes grow wider out of both shock, but they revert back to their natural state as you hold a staring contest with the older Kuroo, who says nothing much negating the bold statement, yet you also almost pass out when Kuroo suddenly scolds his brother because apparently, “Ya can’t do that squirt. I told you that in confidence...” His cheeks are nearly scarlet after hearing this ramble from a seven year old.
“Aww why not? S’not like you’re actually gonna marry her.”
Little Kuroo decides to stick his tongue out in rebellion after a gruff tutt is heard from the little guy.
“As a matter of fact, I am,” Kuroo sticks his tongue out too. He bows his head to apologize to you. “I just have to ask.”
You pat your friend’s kid brother on the shoulder when you walk past a sea of proud parents. Your heart was hammering in your chest so loudly you thought the younger one would ask you if you got a bomb attached to you somewhere. The breeze makes your bangs sway in the warm air, when your friend truthfully tells you he wasn’t joking. For the first time in a long while, you pull this tall tom cat into your arms. He blocks the sun for you and he chuckles when you confirm you don’t have your sunglasses on or in your lab coat.
“I’d just have to date the fuck out of you while we’re married then, huh?” you chide before he presses his forehead against yours.
His hands cups either side of your face, “yes. yes you do after all, you did find me.”
For a split second you glance up, brushing your lips against his accidentally and you see the reflection of an old friend. It’s been five years since he asked you to kiss him and nothing could happen since neither of you wanted to try long distance. (The two of you thought it best to wait until you were in the same city to pursue romance; thankfully that day came when you were extended an invitation to join the botanist ecology program at Tokyo university two months prior.)
“So please stop running,” your voice is a bit shaken. The words were said in the past too.
Amber hued eyes look over your shoulder before they return to you. He brushes the longer bangs aside away from your shoulders. You don’t apologize for standing this close, yet what you do apologize for is the length of time it took you to realize who your friend reminded you of. He kisses you once more, just to reaffirm what just occurred.
A Cheshire like grin on both your faces are photographed by a few familiar colleagues while the presenters comprised of your new bosses and some teachers as well congratulate the sea of former students.
Later on that evening, with your flower wreath of a crown resting on the counter in your apartment, you make a call to your house back in Osaka. Your landline is currently being used, so your phone chime goes off several times as you say your good nights and such. When you have a second, you look at your phone to see Kuroo’s message to you:
Tumblr media
Suffice to say, you don’t wind up marrying the Argentine man, but he does fly out two years later when he hears an old friend from Tokyo is getting married. You vividly remember seeing the rsvp card with international stamps lining your kitchen counter, and Kuroo gives you a smile when you hold up the envelope with a bejeweled hand as he animatedly speaks with Bokuto, who for now, keeps inferring the bachelor party is still on for the hot springs he heard about at the last V League training camp.

He’s my soulmate
Kuroo x f!Reader soulmate AU
There is no importance with Jeopardy, it’s just something that popped in my head so I went with it.
You can communicate telepathically with your soulmate, sending thoughts and feelings to them. it’s a skill that develops through time after you hit 17.  it takes a few months for the connection to grow so for the first little while not a lot comes through. So far you have similar songs getting stuck in your head and thoughts will come through quietly. You tried once to send specific messages but you never had any responses to them so you tried to just go about your day, excited with any thought or songs that come through.
(Touch is what strengthens the connection)
♡´・ᴗ・`♡♡´・ᴗ・`♡♡´・ᴗ・`♡♡´・ᴗ・`♡♡´・ᴗ・`♡♡´・ᴗ・`♡
“God y/n I don’t know why you like to watch Jeopardy so much” your best friend, Michimiya, says from her spot in your bed, textbooks surrounding her and notes spread out, across from your matching space that has a small circle where you were sitting. You had gotten up to stretch your legs from sitting so long studying, Jeopardy reruns running on your tv in the corner, “I feel like watching it makes me smarter and I need all the help I can get” you say with a laugh and she rolls her eyes. “You’re doing a lot better. I almost don’t worry about you” she says with a sigh and you laugh more.
The signature Jeopardy song that plays during the final round starts and you can’t help but do one of the tiktok dances that you were trying to learn, usually set to that love shack mix but now set to this slower pace, you hit all the correct moves after days of practice and when the segment ends on the tv you bust into giggles with Michimiya, falling to your knees by the bed and wiping the tears from your eyes from laughing so hard at your stupidity. “Your crackhead energy is why we’re friends” she says as she catches her breath, holding her stomach.
His game was flawless, his receives were perfect, but his team couldn’t help but be so damn annoyed with him. “Oh my GOD if YOU DON'T stop humming that damn song I’m gonna PUNCH YOU”  Yamamoto shouts from across the gym “calm down” Kenma says and Yamamoto turns back to him “HE'S BEEN HUMMING THE JEOPARDY SONG FOR DAYS NOW! I CAN'T TAKE IT.“
“Take a lap Yamamoto and relax!” Kuroo says with a laugh as he bounces a volleyball on his forearms “and I’ll stop humming the song… for now” he laughs again as Yamamoto groans but nonetheless follows orders
You were handed your exams but you’re too afraid to look, if you fail this one you’ll have to stay here and won't be able to help with the training camp. You shove it in your notebook, you couldn’t bring yourself to look at the score. you’ll just wait, you’ll ask someone else to look first. Once your class ends you hurry out to the gym as fast as you could, hopping the last few steps of the stairs and holding your backpack down as you run.
“Y/N! Did you pass?!” Tanaka shouts as you run through the door, leaving your street shoes by the door you run over to him, your feet sliding across the wood floor in your tights, “Tanaka please, I haven’t looked, you gotta tell me” you say in a rush, holding out your notebook. He laughs and takes your notebook from your hands, his eyebrows furrow as he opens it, looking over your test inside the flap, he sighs “oh I’m so sorry Y/n..” your heart drops “..no” you say and he starts to giggle “i’m so sorry that you’ll have to deal with us for two days at camp!! YOU PASSED!” you gasp and then laugh, punching his shoulder “Tanaka you ass!” you take your notebook back and look at the score, pride filling your heart, you did it. You feel amazing. “Kiyoko! Yachi! Our girl’s coming to camp with us!” Tanaka says with tears in his eyes walking toward Kiyoko with his arms out for a hug, Kiyoko walks under Tanaka’s arm, ignoring him and walking over to you “we knew you’d do it” she says with a smile patting your arm, Tanaka getting comforted by Noya in the background.
That night as you packed your bags you closed your eyes, thinking hard about your soulmate. “I don't know if you can hear me, but I passed my exams. I am so happy and I hope you are having a good day as well”
Kuroo stopped in the middle of his sentence, his phone call with Kenma forgotten about for the time being, as your voice drifted into his thoughts, it’s been a week since he last heard anything from you other than Jeopardy or vines you have on repeat in your head. He hasn’t even seen the vine that goes ‘a potato flew around my room’ but he knew that song was stuck in your head for four days. Your voice fades from his mind and he registers Kenma saying his name repeatedly in his ear “sorry what was i saying?” Kenma sighs “we’re talking about camp tomorrow”
“So this is Nekoma High” you say as you exit the bus with the team, two players standing waiting for you as you arrive, one tall, handsome, albeit cocky looking, with dark hair that reminded you of a rooster, the other gave you the impression he was like Tanaka, who was currently was pointing out a nearby tower with Noya and getting excited thinking it was Tokyo tower. “Woah is that?” Noya exclaims “i think it is!!” Tanaka answers him, when they spoke at the same time “the sky tree!” they were so excited you knew right then and there they shared the same one singular brain cell.
“those poor idiots” you think to yourself as you look at them. “No that's just a regular old steel tower” says one of the boys, you turn your head seeing the tall one holding his stomach in laughter.
You make your way around to stand by the other girls to see if they knew who these two were ``hey who is the tall one?” you whisper at Kiyoko she leans in close to your ear and whispers “Kuroo. Their captain. The other being Yamamoto ” you look over at him “Kuroo…He is really cute” you think with a smirk and then blush as he makes eye contact with you, his eyebrows raised as he first sees you, almost like he heard you say his name.
Really cute…” the last bit of your thought echoes quietly in his mind in a voice he is semi familiar with, from your voice singing songs in his head, your laugh that comes through sometimes. Of course he didn’t know it was you yet, he looks up and notices you staring at him, “who is she?” he thinks to himself, barely catching Yamamoto talking about how jealous he was that Karasuno has three girls! One sexy, one cute, and one beautiful. “Take a look, Tiger Head. behold the glory of going to Karasuno high!” Tanaka says jumping in front of you and the girls.  You were so beautiful, he would be blind to think otherwise, but he quickly pushes the thought away, focusing on the rivalry and not the pull he feels to go to you, continuing his conversation with Daichi. “Lets go” Kiyoko says and you all just ignore Tanka and the Tiger head, walking around them and going on ahead.
After getting settled in the room you were sharing with Kiyoko and Yachi, you three made your way back to the gym, your thoughts stayed fixed on the captain. You maintain the water bottles and chat with the other managers as your team warms up.
Your body was acutely aware of where Kuroo was at all times. You could look up to where he was at any given moment, like a small vibration is your body pulling you in his direction, you tried your hardest to push that feeling away. You had a soulmate, you knew his inner voice and got some of his thoughts from time to time. He loved alternative music and hated this one commercial that comes on the radio for cat food. The jingle getting stuck in his head always came with a feeling of annoyance every time it came into your head. just because the connection wasn’t strong yet didn’t mean you could like someone else!
You felt semi guilty about feeling this way, feeling like you would like nothing more than to talk to someone who isn’t your soulmate. You tried to forget about it. To just get through this camp.
You watch as your boys do their penalty lap, you zone out, the Jeopardy theme song going through your head and you chuckle to yourself at how dumb it is. “I swear to GOD Kuroo if you don't STOP with the Jeopardy song already I’m going to quit volleyball and I mean this” your eyes flash over to where the Nekoma team is playing, your eyes immediately landing on Kuroo who is laughing at Yamamoto. “Wait,” you think to yourself,  His eyes flash to you and he cocks his head at you with a smile. You mouthed the word “Jeopardy?” and raised your eyebrows in a questioning manner.
His cheeks flush, your questioning eyes on him made him feel slightly embarrassed for some reason, he just scratches the back of his neck and shrugs with a smile at you. You smile and shake your head slightly, it couldn’t be him, it’s just a coincidence.. it had to be. You break eye contact with him when Kiyoko gets your attention, needing help with something. He watches as you follow Kiyoko out of the gym, smiling back at you when you turn back to look at him with a smile before you exit the gym.
He stays looking at the door, a smile on his lips, until Yamamoto hits him in the side of the head with a volleyball “you’re being creepy” Yamamoto says and Kuroo scowls “ I am not being creepy! I’m just being nice” “yeah whatever” Kenma says, not really caring about whatever was happening “just toss the ball”
You cheer for your boys while keeping an eye out on the rest of the teams you could see, making little notes in your notebook about moves you see that your team could implement and do better. Writing down things you wanted to talk with Kiyoko about later. Your notes were very organized and split into sections on your paper. You rejoiced in your heart when Kageyama and Hinata made it on time for the last game, cheering outwardly when they won. “Nice one guys!” you yell and begin to discuss plays with Kiyoko.
When your voice rang through the gym his body erupted in goosebumps.  What a weird reaction he thinks, he shakes his head and gets back to his own team.
You stay behind for a few moments, watching the Nekoma game, watching Kuroo especially. You couldn't drag your eyes from him, he was beautiful and he played beautiful, if anyone noticed, and by god Kiyoko and Kenma both had, you had stars in your eyes for that captain.
“Y/n let's go” Kiyoko says and you nod “of course” you respond and follow her and the rest of the team out of the gym, Kuroo catches the sight of you disappearing out the door, frowning at the reaction he had in his chest, a longing he didn’t understand.
You ended up getting to shower later at night, you got distracted talking to some of the other managers and when you went back to your room you found the other girls already back from the showers ``sorry guys, i’ll be quick and come in quiet if you go to sleep” “don’t worry about it y/n. I'm sure Saeko will be back late since she went out.” Kiyoko says and you nod with a bow before hurrying out of the room and down the hall to the women's locker room.
Okay, running down the hallway in the dark was probably a bad idea, but in your defense you assumed everyone was in bed already. You did not expect to jog face first into someone.
Your face hits someone's chest, you know it is a man because of how he smells. Like clean clothes and mint. You hit your butt with an “oof” quickly picking your clothes up from the ground and shouting “I'm sorry!” the man chuckles and crouches down, picking up your shirt handing it to you, “hey don’t worry about it” his voice is soft, sending tingles down your spine and you look up into his face “Kuroo!” you say in shock and he chuckles some more, taking your hand and helping you up. Now that your eyes have adjusted to the dark hallway you can see him now, wet hair slicked back and a towel around his neck, a small nervous smile on his face lit up from the outside light through the window, “I don’t think we've met yet but yes, I am Tetsuro Kuroo” he holds out his hand to you.
Your belly fills with butterflies when you take his hand, giving it a firm shake, “Y/f/n Y/l/n. It's nice to meet you” you smile up at him and his chest tightens, you are so beautiful he hardly knows what to say. “Are you okay?” his voice was soft, nervous, he tries to hide it by clearing his throat “yeah i'm okay. How's your chest?” you feel bad for hitting him so hard and before you realize what you’re doing your hand is already on his chest, softly smoothing down his shirt and feeling his muscles through the thin fabric. He chuckles softly and your hand stops above his heart and you feel your cheeks flush with heat at your actions ``my chest is fine. Don’t worry about me.” you hesitantly look back up into his eyes “uh.. Sorry” you say quietly and go to drop your hand but he places his over yours quickly “it’s okay” his lips never moved, his mouth in a small smile as he looks down at you, you didn’t notice that his voice came into your thoughts.
You stayed like that, standing in the dark, smiling at each other with your hands together on his chest. You could feel his heartbeat strong under your palm, your heart racing as hard as his, you felt like the world stopped for you two.
The sound of footsteps pulled you both from your bubble, you dropped your hand and you both chuckled softly, when Kenma appeared in the dark you took it as the perfect moment to slip away, quietly running down in the opposite direction to shower and pretend like that moment never happened.
The next morning you were watching the team warm up, “How do you think we will do with their new player, Lev?” Kiyoko asks you and Yachi as you sit on the sidelines together, “I don’t know, Hinata’s quick attack works great but I feel like it’s nearing the end, these teams are getting better at combating it since Hinata doesn't aim at all with his eyes closed and Lev is t a l l”  you watch them warm up with your hand on your chin, chewing your lip. “their attack is really amazing though” Yachi says, sending heart eyes towards Hinata. You chuckle at the sweet girl’s obvious crush.
At first he thinks the laugh is in his head, a familiar sound he has heard many times. He’s almost convinced it’s in his head but then his gaze is drawn to your sweet smile as you laughed at the girl beside you. “Her laughter is so sweet” Yamamoto says with a sigh a smile, Kuroo slaps the back of his head “focus on the game” he just got mad at him for paying attention to you but he can't seem to stop looking at you himself. It’s just a coincidence your laughs are similar.
“y/n it seems Kuroo can’t stop looking at you” Kiyoko says and you chuckle again, your face flushing as you remember the night prior, you try to inconspicuously look at him but fail when you make eye contact with him. You raise your hand in a small wave and he blushes with a chuckle before he raises his hand, waving with his fingers. The butterflies in your chest will remain for the rest of the day.
You look at your notes, a thought coming through so easily, stronger than before, “She's so beautiful. But I don't want to think about that. I have my soulmate, she’s here, in my thoughts. why can’t I get this girl out of my mind though? Just focus on the game” your body floods with tingles. That was the clearest thought you’ve ever got. “if I can hear you can you hear me?” you think back, not noticing Kuroo across the gym practice serving the ball and missing it at thelast second, the same second your voice entered his head.
“You’re here?” His voice enters your head, its so strong instead of it seeming far away or weak like usual. Kuroo’s laugh fills the gym followed by remarks from several members of his team but all of that seemed so far away compared to your soulmate connection. “How did the connection suddenly become so strong?” you think back and immediately get a response “I don't know but I am not complaining”  his excited laughter and joy fills your thoughts, and you feel his energy flood into you as well “me either” you say back and then the volleyball game begins “talk more later?” you ask him in your thoughts and he sends back “definitely”  why did his voice sound so familiar?
The game ends, Karasuno taking another penalty lap as you go to refill water bottles. “You still there?” his voice makes you smile “of course” you send back “Now that the connection is open I don't know what to say” his chuckle in your mind makes you feel deja vu, where had you heard it before. “Should we tell each other our names?” you ask and put the filled bottles back in the holder,  walking back to the bench with a smile on your face.  “Yeah that makes sense, my name is Tetsuro” you freeze, your eyes flicking over towards Kuroo who was talking to Kenma about something, his cheeks were flushed but that could have been from the game. Is that why his voice in your head sounds familiar now? Is that why you feel so drawn to him?
Your thought was gentle back to him “Tetsuro...Kuroo?” you watch him, watch the shock that went through his expression, heard him laugh nervously as his voice came into your head “do you know me?” it sounded nervous, you watched him with a smile, “i know of you. Mr. Captain of Nekoma’s volleyball team, tall, incredibly handsome, has rooster hair.” you watch his expression, his smile on his lips, his blushing cheeks, he was gorgeous, now that you knew who he was it made sense why you connected with him from the start. “Are you going to tell me who you are?” you look away from  him when you see him turn towards you “I will. After your camp is over. Don’t want to mess you up or anything”
You glance back at Kuroo who is about to start another game and you find him looking right at you, Kiyoko did tell you that he is a highly observant person.  He raises his eyebrows and you hear his voice in your head “and do you happen to be at this camp too?” he asks and you can’t help but grin at him, you felt like you couldn’t hide anything from him, your previous plan of teasing him is now out the window as you bury your face in your hands, your cheeks feeling warm against your fingers, a smile on your lips. “Focus on your game Tetsu” you say back to him “you are so unbelievably adorable” you look back up at him through your fingertips and he laughs out loud before waving at you. You drop your hands and smile shyly, waving back at him. “What will you give me when we win this game? A kiss?” you scoff “you’ll have to win to see” he laughs and winks at you before turning his attention back to his practice game. “Are you paying attention?” Kiyoko says and you turn back to your game “sorry! I am now!”
The moment his game ends you can feel his eyes on you, after everyone’s had some water “would you mind..” his voice comes through softly, you can feel how excited he is, how antsy he is, your feelings mirrored back at you “where?” you glance over at him, standing next to the wall with his teammates cooling down, he pushes off the wall, saying something to his team before he is headed in your direction, never taking his eye off you “meet me in the hallway” you nod and then turn to Kiyoko “excuse me for a second” she nods and you stand, walking out to the hallway, Kuroo right behind you.
The moment you’re alone he takes your hand and pulls you to his chest, taking a deep breath with his face buried in your hair “hey” you say softly into his chest, your hands wrapping around his middle and holding him close despite how sweaty he was, his sweat actually smelled... nice? You couldn't explain it. It just felt right. “My girl” he says and pulls back just enough to look into your eyes “so what is my prize for winning the game?” he asks and you laugh “am I not enough” he laughs with you “you are a thousand times more than enough and probably too good for me too. But I can't lie, I’m dying to kiss you” your cheeks flush “then do it” you whisper and move your hands to his neck, standing on your tiptoes to get closer to him. His hands move to cup your cheeks and he blushes as he leans down slow, closing the distance between you both.
“Is she tongue kissing the enemy?!” Tanaka shouts behind you, causing you and Kuroo to separate quickly, looking over at your team who just came out into the hallway. You blush and go to explain but before you do Daichi is herding the team the other direction. “Mind your business Tanaka. y/n we are leaving in ten minutes” you laugh embarrassedly “okay i'll be there in a minute”
Kuroo takes your hand and pulls you into an empty room “I don't want you to go” he says with a laugh and you  nod, wrapping your arms around his neck “me either” you whisper and look into his eyes as you close the distance, pressing your body against his and he holds you tight to his chest, a blush rising on his neck and cheeks as his eyes flick down to your lips for a moment “but I’m sure we will figure it out, plus i’ll be back with the team for the summer camp as well” he nods “you’re right” his voice, you realized, was in your head again, your eyes flutter closed as his lips finally connect to yours, you can feel him smile against you and your body feels electric as tingles run from your head to your toes, you felt as though you were weightless. A soft sigh exiting your lips has him licking your top lip, taking your chuckle as a good sign to rub his tongue gently against yours, you moan quietly and his heart races, his stomach knotted with butterflies and electric sparks running down his spine.
You bite his bottom lip and pull back a little before kissing his chin and the pepper kisses down across his jaw, pulling yourself tight against him as you kiss his neck “I have to go, they might leave me” you whisper and he groans, half in protest against you leaving half because you started to suck a small part of his skin on the side of his neck.
When you were satisfied with your handiwork you pulled back, kissing the hickey softly before finally pulling away from him “something to remember me by” you say with a cheeky grin and turn to go, he laughs and grabs your hand, pulling you back to him to give you one last kiss. “Be safe, send me” he taps your temple “your phone number, tell me when you get home” you nod and smile, your heart bursting at the seams with happiness “I will Tetsu. Don’t worry” you kiss his lips once more, looking into his eyes for a few seconds, before forcing yourself to open the door and run down the hallway towards the exit and the bus that is taking you back to Karasuno.
The whole team looks at you with raised eyebrows and silence as you walk on the bus, running your hand through your hair, panting from running all the way there, “what?” you say with a laugh, your cheeks flushing with slight embarrassment as you make your way to an open seat seat by Yachi, “he’s my soulmate”

his soulmate
characters. kuroo tetsuro + f!reader
additional. soulmate au
you had never known what it meant, the inky black words that had been inscribed on your wrist. they’ve been there ever since you turned 14. it was well known as “the soulmate's quote,” your counterpart’s first words to you.
"YOU'RE ONE POWERFUL ACE, KITTEN."
that was all you knew. not who the person was, not when you would meet them, not even where. only the words they would first speak to you, forever engraved into you brain, as well as skin.
but you paid no mind to it. love was one of the things you only thought of in your free time - so you didn't have much time to think of it. you dedicated all your time and effort to volleyball.
the quote on your wrist had led you to gain great confidence in yourself. you were a great ace. powerful. that's what your soulmate thought, at least. so, that's what you began to think, as well.
but right now, your soulmate was the last thing on your mind. you were currently playing one of your matches, the game playing out exactly how you wanted.
you were a third year and the ace of the team, everyone had decided such because of your powerful and unstoppable spikes.
and right now, it was a set match.
nekoma - your school - has been training vigorously for this moment. to finally face karasuno once again. cats versus crows; the trashcan showdown.
though, in your school, the rivalry was much more prominent among the boys. not that you would complain, their feelings on the matter fueled your own excitement and determination.
the girls on the karasuno team were nothing like the males of the same school. they looked as if they lacked dedication and experience - while your team had plenty of both.
in the corner of your eye, you saw the doors open. you assumed that the boys had finished their match and came to cheer your team on. but before you could think about it further, your eyes raced back to the ball coming to your side of the court.
focus, y/n.
your friend received it, another set it to you, and with amazing precision and strength, you sent the ball smack down in the middle of their unguarded court.
cheers had erupted in the stands as you gave a little smirk.
you glanced over at the karasuno girls, seeing their mood greatly defeated. some even had tears streaming down their faces already, you couldn't help but pity them just a bit.
your own teammates, however, were very ecstatic as they jumped around, some patting your back and yelling, "nice kill!"
you heard whistles coming from the opened doors, a boy with a mohawk looking amazed at your skill. all you did was laugh and wave, causing him to nearly have a stroke. his teammate, an attractive male with black hair partially covering the left side of his forehead, winked at you. you returned the gesture, thinking nothing of it.
after the usual ritual of thanking the opposing team for the game, you made your way to the boys, who were leaning against the door frame. you weren't well aquatinted with either males - despite going to the same school for a couple of years. you had never bothered yourself to make many friends nor speak to many people, never seeing it as all it was hyped up to be.
the mohawk boy quickly became nervous and bolted off down the hallway - shouting something along the lines of "PRETTY GIRL APPROACHED ME, MUST RETREAT!" in doing this, he left his tall friend who merely laughed at his teammate's antics.
"you're one powerful ace, kitten," his words flowed out of his mouth naturally, smirking as he crossed his arms.
your eyes widened, looking at your jacket sleeve that covered your wrist, before slowly trailing up to meet the stranger's mesmerizing, cat-like, black eyes.
"i have to admit," you spoke again, smirking with delight as your eyes trailed his form, "i sure did score with this whole soulmate thing."
his own orbs widened in shock as he pushed up his own jacket sleeve, revealing the very words you had just spoken.
"the name's y/n l/n." you introduced, sticking a hand out for him to shake.
"tetsuro kuroo."
you thought of yourself as relatively bold, doing what you pleased. but what he did led you to rethink how bold you actually were.
instead of shaking your outstretched hand, he placed two slightly calloused hands on either side of your face, quickly leaning in and planting a passionate kiss on your lips.
your eyes widened before snapping shut as you placed your hands on the back of his neck to pull him closer, one of his hands still resting on your cheek while the other gripped your waist to pull you closer.
queue the whistles of your own team.
you smiled into the kiss but didn't stop. you didn't care. you had just found your soulmate. nothing had mattered more at the moment than him, his lips on yours, and the words you had both shared with each other.
"i finally found you," he whispered as he pulled away from your lips. you chuckled, "i guess you did."
what a way to celebrate winning a match.
[ . . . ]
"how did we not meet before?! we literally went to the same school, played the same sport, AND were in the same grade," your boyfriend exclaimed as he twirled a strand of your h/c hair between his nimble fingers as you laid on his chest.
"maybe because i wasn't focused on finding you, but instead volleyball," you rolled your eyes as you sighed, cuddling closer to his muscular and warm body.
"you wound me, y/n!" he pouted as he looked away in mock hurt and betrayal.
you hummed as you gave a little smile, "mmm, maybe so, tetsuro. but i'm glad i did find you." your face reached up to his, giving him a small peck on the cheek. this quickly stopped his pouting as he gazed at you with love and admiration shining in his eyes, the corners of his kissable lips pulling up.
"me too, y/n. me too."

Yellow
psa: okay i know yall are about to blast me on this even though i’ve put this warning up here, i know kuroo’s eyes are hazel or something like that. but i actually headcanon him to have somewhat yellow or even gold eyes so we’re sticking to that for now, okay? okay
kuroo x reader (tsukishima x reader in the end)
angst....
Look at the stars Look how they shine for you And everything you do Yeah, they were all yellow
I came along I wrote a song for you And all the things you do And it was called "Yellow"
all your life you thought he was the one.
growing up with kenma and kuroo, you naturally found your soulmate mark pretty early on. it was a normal Sunday afternoon when you noticed something seemed to be off the moment you laid your eyes on the rooster’s face.
‘hm’
that was the first sound of curiosity that caught the attention of the man himself. a grin made its way on his face as he realized how deeply you were staring at him.
‘oya? am i cute, baby chibi?’
at the mere age of 10, kuroo was already the ultimate teaser he is today. the shameless and sarcastic grin has been carved on his ridiculously adorable face and kuroo tetsuro was never one to miss an opportunity to tease. combined with an older sister, kuroo learned the ways to flirt to a lady despite his initial shyness towards people in general.
then you came.
with your signature f/s (favorite smell) scent, you were the only one he could smell as his own soulmate mark was the lack of scent.
but there was one problem.
it is said that usually when you meet your soulmate, you would regain what you lost.
however, how come it was only a small part that he got back?
shouldn’t he be able to smell his mother’s cooking or the grass outside?
maybe that’s how he found himself drawn to you.
the questions and questions ended in one single answer.
he met you through kenma.
as a neighbor of the pudding head, kuroo often came over to kenma’s house to play since he was the only friend the older boy had. then maybe around the fifth time he came over, he saw you there.
you were standing in your tippy-toes and kuroo watched you try to get a box of fruit snacks on top of the fridge but obviously, you were too short. the poor kid felt himself freeze up at the sight of another kid in the kitchen but then he remembered kenma telling him the other day that a relative was coming over.
you must be the relative.
and a very good smelling one too.
kuroo’s ears turned red when he remembered what his sister told him.
‘it will come one day, tetsu. they will come one day. you will know it immediately when you see them’
it was like an invisible trail only seen by him trailed to you and he imagined it to be yellow.
there was no particular meaning to it but he just knew it was yellow.
‘come on!’
you mumbled repeatedly.
as much as tetsu found the sight amusing, he felt slightly bad for you the moment the 5-minute mark hit. even though he was nervous to speak to you, he mustered up all his courage and walked over, only to startle you with his voice.
‘watch and learn, chibi’
he cringed a little after he said it but he pushed it to the side.
in amazement, you watched as this boy effortlessly heaved himself on the counter and stood up to easily grab the box of snacks. you cheered once his fingertips touched the box but apparently, your noise of happiness scared him and his sock-cladded foot missed the marble top and instead sunk to the air.
‘watch out!’
you shrieked and dove to try and catch him but you didn’t realize how pointless it was as you both still fell and got hurt anyways.
the position was something your young mind didn’t register as anything suggestive.
but his intense gaze made you blink and fluster even more when he laughed and you found yourself comparing him to the cutest boy in your kindergarten.
this boy might be the first one to be cuter than akaashi keiji himself.
‘thank you’
you whispered in appreciation and tetsu nodded, moving himself up before offering you a hand to stand too.
unfortunately for you, colors were never in your life.
i guess you could say that your world was filled with black and white with the occasional appearance of grey.
it never bothered you until twice in your lifetime.
you wanted to see akaashi keiji in full color and you also wanted to see this boy’s eyes.
it looked sharp and reminded you of something your cousin and your cat had in common.
eventually, that desire went away and you went back to living your colorless life.
however.
the moment your 9th birthday hit, you noticed something different.
you were over at kenma’s while your parents were doing something (probably a surprise party). tetsu was over too and by now, he was already accustomed to you and he liked you, even more, when you helped get the volleyball whenever it strayed away.
‘oh! chibi-chan!’
he greeted when he saw you lounging around on kenma’s bed, reading a princess book, while the bed’s owner was by your feet playing on his games.
‘oh! hello, ku-kun!’
you waved, not even looking up from the page, only for him to pull a sour face and whine.
‘aaaaaaa, call me something cute, chibi-chan! i want a nickname too! it’s not fair that kenma gets one and i don’t! and pay attention to me too!’
kuroo childishly complained and you opened your mouth to scold him for being annoying when your heart thrummed violently and your eyes found his.
they were very light.
you didn’t know what the color name was since you’ve been stuck with this problem the moment you were born.
but you were interested to learn just to know what color kuroo tetsuro’s eyes were.
right now, you had no name for it.
all you knew was that they were very pretty.
as you got older, his eyes were the only thing you could see that was outside the black and white and grey spectrum. not even the apple you ate or the school uniform could be identified by a single color.
but his-his were yellow.
the perfect shade of not being too light and not being too dark, they evened out to be something as beautiful as gold.
oddly enough, he was the only person you could see yellow in.
added to the fact that you were still cursed of not having the full color wheel, kuroo’s yellow eyes were the only colorful thing in your life and your cousin even dyed his hair the same color to see if you could identify it on another person.
but nope.
just kuroo.
and that’s what made him so special.
sometimes, you could even see it glow brighter.
you reckon it’s just the lighting but what you don’t know is those short glowing pulses of his eyes were actually the times he realized that he falls in love with you.
so for every time they glow, it was his soul’s indirect way of saying he loves you.
‘chibi?’
kuroo snapped you out of your staring and you found yourself back to the rooftop of your high school while kenma was sipping his juice and playing at the same time.
‘oh’
you mumbled.
kuroo smirked and he scooted closer to peck your cheek before leaning close to your face. even he was flustered at the strongest smell of f/s and it was his own personal drug with no sense of limitation.
the same for kuroo, your scent would get stronger and it would happen occasionally at the most random times.
like now.
but kuroo was a smarter boy and quickly connected the dots that with your strong scent and the clear scream of love in your eyes, your strong scent was your own indirect way that you love him.
and he swears to any higher being up there, that he would always love you more.
‘what were you thinking about, chibi-chan?’
he whispered and your eyes widened at the up-close view of his face and noticed they were glowing again.
you wonder why.
your line of sight moved and you couldn’t help the way your eyes traveled downwards to his lips.
‘oh? you want a kiss?’
he teased and you could feel your ear bursting with how flustered you’ve become but thankfully, kenma decided to save you.
‘oi, kuroo. don’t suck faces when i’m here’
he chided and kuroo sighed heavily then pouted.
‘fine. i guess i can wait. but you owe me double the kisses’
this idiot knew what he was doing to you.
that was your kuroo.
he was everything you wanted and everything you needed.
yet the moment you laid eyes on the tall middle blocker of karasuno, everything faded away.
being the manager of the volleyball team meant you were obligated to go to practice matches with them and as you walked over to the entrance of the gym, you felt the world stop.
there, karasuno stood and your eyes settled on the tall player with the glasses. his height made his noticed quickly but to you, you noticed him immediately with the reasons of suddenly being able to see other colors and because his own hair color was this familiar shade of grey that only meant you couldn’t see the true color.
by the corner of your eye, there was a bright sight.
the hair of some other karasuno player shone brightly and his short height didn’t even register in your head as volleyball material, rather him being the confirmation of what just happened.
‘tetsu’
you almost sobbed and kuroo knew something was wrong by the way your scent started fading.
‘chibi-y/n’
he frantically asked and you looked at him, now seeing the bright color of his jacket.
his eyes still shone in color but now, they all blended with the rest of the colors.
it was all mixed--muddled.
‘kuroo’
you whispered and tetsu knew he should appear professional so he grabbed your waist and pulled you close by his side to silently tell you it was going to be okay.
but by god, it wasn’t.
as the karasuno players introduced themselves, you finally put a name to the tall middle blocker.
‘my name is tsukishima kei’
his velvet voice traveled to your ear.
you swallowed a lump in your throat and you asked kenma what this tsukishima guy’s hair color was.
‘yellow’ was all he said.
it was like thunder boomed in the distance.
it all made sense.
‘hey, y/n?’
kuroo quietly mumbled. you tore your eyes away from the sky and looked at the boy laying beside you with your arms around him to warm you both from the cold summer night at his apartment rooftop.
‘hm?’
‘how come,,,, why can i only smell you?’
your eyes stared at his face but his own refused to look at you.
‘why can i only see your eyes? its the same concept. and honestly, im too scared to find out’
you admitted and that was when tetsu finally looked at you and you might not be able to see anything else but his glowing yellow eyes made up for it.
‘i am too’
you smiled softly before leaning up to kiss his lips.
‘then we don’t have to find out’
you’ve heard from tetsu’s sister before about the taboo tales of twin flames and the differences between soulmates and twin flames.
your mind knew this would happen but your heart refused to accept it.
kuroo tetsuro was the boy you stayed up thinking about and dreaming of the simple wedding and the house with children’s laughter filling up the silence of the street.
but then that grinning and handsome face of your tetsuro became replaced by the face of this person--this stranger.
and there was nothing you could do about it.
tsukishima kei may have given you the colors of the world.
but only kuroo gave you yellow.
okayokayokay i know this kinda sounds confusing so imma write out this quick explanation, okay?
so basically, this is a story about soulmates duh but also partially twin flames. so when you turned 9, you saw kuroo and you thought he was your soulmate immediately because he was the only person who you could see colors to. oddly, it was yellow (i know its supposed to be hazel but please bear with me!!) and so therefore yellow became kuroo’s special thing to you. and i also talked about how their soulmate marks were only partial like kuroo could only smell you and nothing else and you could only see his eyes and its color and nothing else. this goes along with the idea that you can have multiple soulmates in your life but only have one twin flame! as sad as it sounds, he isn’t your twin flame. and when you guys were questioning about it, that was my way of kinda showing this knowledge that not everyone with the soulmate prompt probably thinks about when they make soulmate fics. your twin flame is your endgame or your partner for life. they are your person and your soulmate are just people that are special to you like theyre right under twin flame.
tsukishima kei is your twin flame, not kuroo. kuroo is one of your soulmates that you’ll meet in your lifetime and he was your color of yellow. and i kinda mentioned that despite seeing all the colors in tsukki, you couldnt see his hair color and it’s grey, meaning its a light color but you can’t actually see it bc your soulmate curse blocks it. thats why you ask kenma his hair color and its yellow so you kinda make this connection like ‘how come i still see tetsu’s eye color which is yellow but not tsukishima? or even kenma’s hair?’. bc that color belongs to kuroo. it indicates and reminds you that he’s still one of your soulmates and essentially helped you grow and connected with you deeply. you mistook that connection for romantic love when it was only meant to be platonic love. i mentioned somewhere up there that the topic of twin flames is taboo so its not really known by like everyone so that would maybe explain you and kuroo’s ignorance about it. the same goes for kuroo. say your scent is lavender. he can’t walk into a store and smell a candle of lavender bc its not from you, ya feel? i dont know i suck at explanations but i hope i cleared the air with this one!!

an “i don’t know you yet” fanfic
note: based on the song “i don’t know you yet” , since it’s kuroo’s birthday here’s a fanfic w/ him
summary: where y/n and kuroo are soulmates never meant to be
----------------------------------------------------------------
2.01 am
how can you miss someone
you’ve never met
another glance at your wrist was all you had been doing repetitively for the past few seconds, the distinct swirl of the art, with certain splashes of dots here and there ; what possibly could this mark do that gave so much meaning to it.
yet it was the longing that drove you insane, it has always been like this. the particular longing that made you want to search for your “other half”, the want to know what it would feel like to complete the puzzle you had been born with, the curiosity that always ate you alive, the one that kept you up for more nights than you could count.
cause i need you now
but i don’t know you yet
it was at times like these when you think about what it would feel like to have someone that actually needed you, what it would be like to hear the words “i need you”, what it would be like to feel the warmth of the one you actually love.
it was when you see people with their soulmates, it was when you have to pretend to be joyful when your friends found their soulmate, it was when you had to conceal your loneliness and be happy for them, it was when you try not to have green eyes despite wanting to know how they could possibly look at each other like they were each other’s whole life. those were the times when you longed to meet your mark, your other mark, your other half.
But i’ve only got half a heart
to give to you
nevertheless, the insecurities always kicked in when you pondered about meeting this person, what if they didn’t like you, what if you were not their type, what if you were not enough.
it was always a continuous loop of worries and anxieties, for after all, you only had to hope that half of your heart was enough for them.
how can you miss someone
you’ve never seen
kuroo had never really cared about not meeting his soulmate yet. he knew he would meet you when the time was meant for it. he knew, oh he knew, that despite what he was trying to say, he longed to meet you, to hold you, to cherish you.
he desired to see you on the stands during his matches, he craved to see you wrapped up in his jacket as you cheered for him. he yearned to spend his time with you, every passing second and every passing minute, he knew he wanted to be there beside you, holding your hand and make sure that you had everything you need.
Oh tell me are your eyes
brown, blue or green
he was desperate. desperate to know what you looked like. he was desperate to know every miniscule detail about you. despite his statement of liking girls with long hair, he knew he was just mocking yaku at that very moment- he knew he had no care for it- he knew he would not mind anything if it were about you.
yet, he still longed, he longed to know the color of the eyes he was going to stare into first thing in the morning, the color of the eyes he would search for after every winning match, the color of the eyes he would come to love. was it too much for him to ask?
do you like it with sugar and cream
or do you take it straight oh just like me
what were your likes and dislikes? where did you live? when are you going to be in his arms?
he had so much he wanted to know about you. it was like thirst for water. the more he grew tired of everything, the more he wanted to know about you. the more he wished to speak to you, to hear your voice and to simply just hold you tight when everything was going wrong for him. he wanted you to be there for him.
but i’ve only got half a heart
to give to you
and i hope it enough
he wanted to lay under a sky filled with endless possibilities with you by his side, he wanted to be in an never drowning ocean with you, he wanted to give you all the best.
yet he knew, despite everything, he could only afford to give half a heart to give to you.

warnings: cussing because kuroo’s a piece of sht to his soulmate
words: 1.7k
summary: Soulmate! au where you can write on your skin and it will show up on their skin. You were being bs-ed by yours, Tetsu as he continues to pester your life
pairing: Kuroo Tetsurou x fem!reader
-----------
Your POV
You don’t know what to feel about the whole soulmate thing. When you were 12, you noticed some markings on your mother and father that were exactly the same and your mom told you all about how soulmates work. Your soulmate will be able to write anything on their skin which will also appear on yours.
You were 16 when it first happened. You were currently having lunch when your friend pointed out some writing on your arm.
‘Hey!!!!!’ It said. You face palmed at the number of exclamation points and the large text covering your arm, why did your soulmate seem to be annoying?
“You going to answer that?” Akaashi asked. You were seated with him and Bokuto when your soulmate wrote on your arm.
You nodded and held out your hand. “Give me a pen.” You uncapped the pen he gave you and thought of what to say. After a few minutes, you just settled for a simple ‘what’.
You averted your eyes and looked at Akaashi. “My soulmate seems very annoying. You’re lucky you already know who it is.”
Your friends, Akaashi and Bokuto, were soulmates. It was amusing to say the least. Akaashi was your childhood friend and you accompanied him to volleyball tryouts for the Fukurodani team. You looked at Akaahi and saw that he had a drawing of an owl on his cheek and you nearly laughed at him when he saw his face on the mirror, if not for his piercing glare. When you arrived at the gym, a guy who had a resemblance to an owl approached the both of you with a similar-looking drawing on his face.
When Akaashi became part of the volleyball club, he and Bokuto immediately hit it off and they became boyfriends. A year had passed and Bokuto was now the captain while Akaashi became the ace of Fukurodani and you were their number one supporter. You always accompanied them in your free time and it was amusing to see how Akaashi handles the emo-mode of his captain.
“Maybe they’re just excited to meet you!” Bokuto said while eating his side of fries.
“Hah,” You were confused. “Why would anyone be excited to meet me?”
“You’re a very nice person, Y/N!” Bokuto looked almost sad while pouting at you.
“Bokuto-san is right. Any person would be lucky to be your soulmate.” Akaashi added.
You simply smiled at them, muttering a small thanks to them. You looked at your arm when you noticed another writing on it, accompanied with a drawing next to it.
It said, ‘I’m Tetsu!’ with a poorly drawn cat on its side. You stifled a laugh at his drawing and got out your pen to write to him again.
“Cute drawing! I’m Y/N.’ You wrote as you draw a cute cat beside it.
You glanced towards Akaashi and Bokuto who were sitting across you. They seem to be in their own small world, and you were like a third wheel. It made you think, however, what would it be like if you met your soulmate?
“Oh, by the way,” You looked at Bokuto who waved at you to get your attention. “Coach Yamiji asked if you could also accompany the team, together with Yukie and Kaori, during our training camp in Nekoma. It’s going to be held in Tokyo.”
“Okay,” You nodded at them. “I’ll go talk to them later.”
“I hope you’ll come! You’ll finally get to meet Kuroo!” Kuroo, the one Bokuto was talking about, is a friend they have in Nekoma. It was puzzling you how they really met but any friend of theirs is your friend as well.
“I’ll try,” You looked at your watch. “Lunch break’s over, we gotta go to class, Akaashi.”
Akaashi bid goodbye to Bokuto by kissing him on the cheek and you can’t help but smile at their cuteness.
“Bye, Bokuto-kun!” You waved goodbye to him as you and Akaashi walked to class. You glanced at your arm again and there was no reply, I hope we meet soon, Tetsu.
After discussing with the coach of the details for the training camp, you asked permission from your parents and they gladly allowed you to join the Fukurodani team. Walking to the gym to inform Coach Yamiji of the news, you felt the stares of the people at you and it didn’t stop when you arrived at the gym.
Akaashi pulled you to the side and asked if you’ve seen yourself in the mirror. You got wide-eyed and got your phone to check yourself in the camera. It took all your will power to not scream at your soulmate for doing this. He drew whiskers on his face which, of course, appeared on your face as well. Oh God, that’s why people have been staring at you!
“I am so gonna kill him,” You said as you pulled out some tissue wipes to erase the drawings on your skin.
That wasn’t the only time he embarrassed you with his drawings and writings. One time when you were in class, the teacher called out your attention and asked you kindly to go get a mirror to look at your face.
“He fucking done something again, did he?” You mumbled in your breath. Akaashi looked at you and tried not to laugh. He almost looked sympathetic. You looked at your reflection and there were two almost visible red circles on your cheeks, there was something blue on your eyes, your eyebrows were even drawn in and a mustache was painted with a mole above it. You fucking looked like the character in Mulan. (iykyk sksksks)
You excused yourself quickly from the class while still hiding your face and went to the restroom. You washed your face quickly and planned, in more ways than one, how you can kill Tetsu.
You got a pen from your pockets and quickly wrote out, ‘you fucker!” with a drawing of an angry cat on its side on your forearm. It wasn’t that noticeable, but you could get in trouble for the language so even though you wanted to curse the hell out of your soulmate, it can wait until you meet.
You were annoyed at Tetsu who was being very annoying doing things you couldn’t stand. Days passed and this ongoing thing of annoying you continued. Whether it be writing something weird or drawing something weird, Tetsu annoyed the hell out of you. It was finally the day you go to Nekoma for the training camp. You were seated next to Kaori when she laughed at you and gave you a mirror.
“That fucker,” You exclaimed as you saw the writing on your forehead and on your cheeks. On your forehead, it said ‘TETSU’S’ and on your cheeks, ‘BACK’ and ‘OFF’ were written.
“This has gone too far,” You struggled not to strangle someone. “Oh my god, the AUDACITY.”
You texted Akaashi the situation with a picture. He stifled laughter together with Bokuto as they look at your face which held the most fearsome glare they have ever seen. Your soulmate is really trying you and they are really amused.
Unfortunately for you, you don’t have any tissue wipes to erase the damn thing on your face and nobody has some as well. You put the hood of your jacket up and wore the shades Yukie has given you to try and cover the writings on your face.
“I’ll just go find a restroom,” You excused yourself from the team not knowing that Bokuto and Akaashi followed you not too far behind you. You hung your head low and didn’t notice where you’re going which made you bump into someone.
“Watch i--!” You were cut by the screaming of Bokuto towards the man who wore a red hoodie and shades, kinda like yours, who Bokuto tackled with a hug.
“KUROO!” He screamed. When he tackled this Kuroo guy, his shades and hood fell off exposing his face. He was handsome, and what’s with his hair? But what surprised you were the writings on his face that looked like the ones on yours. Akaashi and Bokuto seemed to realize and put two and two together that the Tetsu who was your soulmate and has been pestering you for the past month was Kuroo Tetsurou, their friend from Nekoma.
“L/N-chan, he’s Kuroo.” Bokuto hesitantly introduced him to you. He stepped back and went to Akaashi to wait for what you will do.
“Kuroo Tetsurou, sorry you had to see me like this. I was trying to piss of my soulmate.” He smiled sheepishly and offered his hand.
“I’m L/N,” You gripped his hand tightly while taking off your shades and hood off with your free hand. “L/N Y/N, I know.”
His eyes widened with the thought of his soulmate being there. Furthermore, his soulmate being the person Bokuto and Akaashi was talking about. It didn’t help his situation when he blatantly admitted that he was pissing his soulmate, you, off.
“I’m,” You gritted your teeth. “I’m going to kill you.”
“Fuck,” he quickly pulled his hand from yours and ran. You chased him all over Nekoma, missing the glances his team and your team was giving you.
“They’re soulmates,” Akaashi simply said to the prying eyes. They all nodded and said, “oh” while looking at the both of you chasing each other.
“You fucker, Tetsu!” You screamed as you jumped onto his back to try and strangle him. Obviously, not so he dies but just to let him feel like he will. He’s still your soulmate.
“I’m sorry!” He screeched while you were choking him. You finally let go of him after a few minutes and rolled to his side. You were both panting from the running you two made.
“I’m Y/N L/N,” You introduced yourself again and nudged his shoulder.
“I’m Kuroo Tetsurou,” He said and nudged your shoulder as well. He sat up and pulled you. “I guess we’re soulmates.”
“Yeah,” You smiled. “I guess we are.”
BONUS
"I'm still going to kill you for this." You glanced at him as you cuddled. You were in bed after a long day of training.
"And for that Mulan thing back then." You glared. "I was in class!"
He stifled a laugh at your face. "I'm sorry, I just like to rile you up."
"Make it up to me." You scrunched your nose and settled to look at his chest.
He held your chin up to look at him and place the gentlest of kisses on your forehead.
Then on your eyes.
Then on your nose.
Then on your cheeks.
Then on the side of your lips.
"I will," He said and finally placed his lips on yours. “Soulmate.”
