So I can FINALLY show what will be going on during October for me. We have all heard of InkTober, we've heard of GoreTober and all that not, so I decided to make my own prompt for October called Junji-Tober! Junji-Tober is where you can draw panels in your style or draw your oc/persona as if they were a part of the horror mangaka Junji Ito's terrifying stories. the part of the junji ito collection anime where souichi is taunting his sister with this dead spider carcass and then gets it slapped onto his face was the funniest fucking thing i had ever seen in an anime

the animators literally just microsoft powerpoint swooshed this fucking transparent photo of a spider onto his face with a splat sound effect

i don’t care if it was lazy animation, a placeholder for actual animation they forgot to finish, or completely 100% intentional. i give this anime a 10/10 and an A+ for being fucking hilarious.

'Junji Ito' Collection Review - Out now from @madman

Thanks to Madman we watched the horror anthology ‘Junji Ito’ collection in high-quality Blu-ray.

Based on the works of legendary Japanese horror mangaka Junji Ito, the collection is a tribute to Ito’s most iconic works, including Souichi’s Convenient Curse, Honored Ancestors, Window Next Door and of course Tomie among others, with the latter included as a two-part OVA.

Exhibit at Huashan Creative Park in Taipei, Taiwan around horror manga master, Junji Ito. The exhibit, which has been in the works for 2 years, featured huge reproductions of his works, never-before-seen hand-drawn pages from The Hanging Balloons, figures of some of his iconic characters (Tomie from Tomie and Souichi from Souichi’s Convenient Curse), and videos that take us through Ito’s workspace and process.

Junji Ito: Del manga al anime

Junji Ito es creador de tramas turbias y retorcidas, que lo dejan a uno preguntándose “¿qué acabo de leer?”, con personajes con trasfondos oscuros, rodeados de entidades paranormales que lo llevarían a uno al borde mismo de la locura. En base a sus obras, empezó esta temporada un anime compilado de sus mejores joyas.

Sus mangas son un clásico, una masterpiece en cuanto a las historias, que han llegado a inspirar a videojuegos tales como Silent Hill, y reconocidos directores de cine. Visualmente son impactantes, tan detallados que pueden llegar a ser chocante en algunos momentos. Este festival de demencial arte asiático, es en lo que nos centraremos en esta breve reseña.

El volumen 1, es un metraje que consta de dos cortos. Si bien el primero es bastante ligero en cuanto a trama, “Souichi’s Convenient Curses” nos cuenta la historia de Souichi, un estudiante el cual mediante muñecos del tipo voodoo, pone maldiciones sobre sus compañeros de clase. A esta clase de maleficios se los llama “ushi no koku mairi”, y estos van teniendo una especie de sueños lúcidos donde son atacados por distintas clases de criaturas. Visualmente no esta mal, pero es solo el inicio en este espiral de locura que son estos compilados en anime.

Esto se pone interesante en el segundo corto, “Hellish Doll Funeral”. Puede llegar a ser ridícula la trama, pero visualmente impacta, y se nota el esfuerzo desde el sombreado hasta los detalles mínimos.

Estos cortos son un preludio a lo que será un descenso en un universo oscuro, paranormal, enfermo y loco que salió de la mente de Junji Ito. Estos cortos capturan el arte y la esencia de terror junto con la demencia que Ito quería plasmar en sus mangas. Si eres fan del anime de horror, o solo quieres pasar un rato asustándote,  Itou Junji: Collection es lo que necesitas ver. 

Esperamos el lanzamiento de los próximos episodios con muchas ansias.
