the thing about climate change is... at some point, people are going to riot. There is no scenario we don't. If we warm 4 degrees as they say we're on track for... we currently are 4 degrees warmer than THE FUCKING ICE AGE. When glaciers were in OHIO. So no, you're not going to get to 4 degrees without people rioting at some point.

The world of 4 degrees of warming is unimaginably different than the current world is now. The sad part is... people will not riot until it's already very bad. That's kind of the curse of the human condition. People cannot imagine how bad it will be until it's very bad, at which point they act. And I won't say it's too late by then, because there is no "too late", but it will still be very bad, and many things will have gone extinct. People will have died in huge numbers. Who knows if it will end us as a species, though I tend to think not, considering humans survived the Ice Age.

This is the only thing I'm "optimistic" about: humans are self-centered. When shit starts happening to them, and it becomes personal for a huge number of people, then something will be done. But I don't think our nature will change. I don't think we'll care about anyone but ourselves. And I think a lot of people are going to suffer-- and a ton of Earth's wildlife will go extinct. That's what an extinction event looks like.

Currently, a majority of Americans say they're worried about climate change. And yet the highest selling vehicle in this country is a Ford truck.

People really don't give that much of a shit. And they simply will not until they personally lose everything.

yeah, i saw - i wasn't holding onto hope of them casting a disabled actor for Tyson (still disappointed, just not surprised) but casting a 28 year old for a middle schooler is really out of left field. It's just an odd choice? Particularly given how much they've been emphasizing age-accurate casting so far.

It makes me really wonder what major rewrites they have planned for Tyson's character. Because as things stand currently there's no way to make Tyson's existing character work with this casting. Tyson is supposed to be in Percy's grade, but Daniel Diemer sticks out like a sore thumb against the child actors. Tyson being in Percy's grade is pretty important for the entire arc of Sea of Monsters with the main character arc being Percy combating internalized ableism and establishing him as a character who stands up for other marginalized kids. If they remove that, what's Percy's arc going to be for that entire season? At what point are they going to establish that about his character? Or are they just going to exposition it at us like usual with nothing backing it up and no actual character progression? And in later seasons the age gap is only going to be more prominent - like how is Tyson going to work in BoTL or TLO? Are they planning on removing his character entirely for those scenes? Are they going to remove him as a recurring character in general? It'd be really weird if they killed him off or something.

I'm also afraid for if they do try to keep Tyson's disability coding in some form - cause there's kind of no good way it can go at this point. Either they completely erase Tyson's coding because they cast an abled actor for him and that messes up the entire arc of the book and his character particularly in relation to Percy, or they have an abled actor attempt to portray a character heavily coded as having down syndrome (and i believe they're already doing similar with iirc Chiron's actor is abled but they're doubling-down in the show on Chiron being disabled) and given how they've written the neurodivergence themes (or absence there of) in the show so far there's just no way that'd end well. Like, Tyson's characterization is a little questionable to begin with in the books, but given the show's writing so far it just feels like we're very rapidly ramping up for an extremely ableist characterization of Tyson. Like i'm sure Daniel Diemer is a great actor, but... i'm just getting real tired of the show erasing the entire premise of the series :T

Let me first preface this by saying that I absolutely don’t mind at all that people have their own preferred ships when it comes to Tales fandom, or just any fandom in general. It’s great! And people absolutely should have the right to celebrate their favorites as they please.

Having said that…I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I sometimes feel a little lonely. I feel like I’m the only one shouting from the rooftops that Luke/Tear is so amazing and the way they were developed in Abyss was just brilliant and I would love to share that love with others.

And I try to do that. But sometimes…it just feels like I’m talking to a brick wall.

Other than the few people who still care to some extent…there are less and less people who will even bat an eyelash.

And like, I get it…Abyss is a dated fandom and its last release was on the 3DS in like 2012. And of course, so many other games and fandoms have come around since then.

At the same time…I see how people react to other Abyss ships…and I see how they react to Luke/Tear. I can tell you that it’s definitely NOT the same.

I know I’m not the best writer. Far from it. But seeing my stories also get less and less traction (despite putting as much if not more effort) is getting disappointing. So I know it’s not just a ���me” issue but mainly the general audience who are not interested in the subject matter.

Maybe it’s just the syndrome and curse of being a “canon” ship. Some people will automatically gravitate away from anything that’s “written” to already happen. And that makes me sad. I wish people could just see everything regardless of whether they’re deemed canon or not, because I feel like people are passing over a beautiful ship for really no good reason.

There’s also people who…let’s say take Luke’s age at literal face value and won’t even consider him with anyone lmao they’re kind of a lost cause to begin with so I don’t even bother

Haven’t spoken about Hellsing for some time, but I have always harbored a particular head canon that may not be popular with people, but I find it to be a pretty reasonable conclusion:

It’s very likely that Integra has both internalized racism and misogyny due to how she was raised by her father, the frequent visits of the other white men who are from the Round Table, and just being a part of British society as a whole, especially as someone who directly works for a monarchy infamous for their colonization efforts. And while I do like to think that she’d unlearn some of that as she ages—especially with internalized misogyny—and would love to see her wear more traditional Indian attire…it’s very unlikely. I simply can’t see it happen with the way her character has been written. Systemic bigotry can be very difficult to unlearn, especially when you’re essentially working to defend it and its leader at all costs.

i know nothing about coding but if i did i'd rip the damn game apart and pull out all the dialogue for quests and put them in a. idk spreadsheet or google doc or something. i HATE how this high school story and hollywood u are so badly perserved and documented, partially through the fault of its creators. i get that these are niche games that a grand total of five people even remember them but if i think about how an ENTIRE HALF OF THE STORY IS GONE BECAUSE THERE'S A REQUIRED SERVER CHECK it makes my blood boil.

i’ll use this ask to rant. i simpatize with you… way too much. i try not to speak about this very often because it just makes me angry and because, well, it’s a super niche game and we had around four years to organize and archive it but… it is a niche game. by 2022, who even was active in the fandom besides like… me and five other people? not to mention it was very out of the blue, with such a small window between the announcement and the shut down it was impossible to archive everything. i spent full days trying to screenshot as much of high school story as i could. and now i regret i didn’t spend this time archiving hollywood u instead. but what is done is done.

i think… i mean, as much as it sucks, high school story is still fully playable if you have the .apk (or if you have it in your ios). what really, really bothers me is how hollywood u is essentially… lost media? the game itself, yes, but over 20-30 quests are missing from the files because they were released after pixelberry (apparently) decided to store some of the assets on the online server and not locally anymore. even if i were to drop the quests in a word .doc, it still wouldn’t be fully available. and that makes me angry. hwu was last updated in 2018 with a “fix”. why couldn’t they have used the opportunity to make these files available locally? it was pretty obvious at that point the games were sunsetting one day. might have given the chance for the fans to preserve it in some way since hwu would be locked behind a server check forever.

i don’t know. i’m not a dev. but i’m pretty sure they had the tools and the means, they just didn’t see it as worthy of their time. and i get it a little. they were very busy with choices at that time. these games were very dead. pb was past them. but come on. hss and hwu were part of pixelberry’s history and i like to believe these games deserved more than what they got. ~30 days between the announcement and the shut down? please. a little bit more of respect for the art they themselves created!! i think it all just boils down to me feeling… angry, sad and… heartbroken that one of theses games is completely unplayable in 2024 and forever. just like that. to expunge and deprive people from the art you once delighted in creating and sharing is sad!

I havent said before, cause I dont really make posts like this, but if you want to see Pokémon as a series Get Better, You have to stop buying into it. Let me explain...

Pokémon has been doing the "1 step forwards, 2 steps back" thing when it comes to almost every modern game since Sun and Moon. They get rid of welcome changes to the series, replace it with something else that serves as a one time gimmick, all while crunching the employees.

With Scarlet and Violet having Just released Not even 3 years after SWSH, chances are you will witness Firsthand how thrown together these games are. They're practically coming apart at the seams.

Dont get me wrong, the devs do deserve all the credit to the work they put out. But it just doesnt meet expectations. It barely even reaches them. Visually, SV, is very poorly optimised, and the design direction for the games style has Drastically changed since SWSH, when that game had fantastic art direction (not graphics. The style itself)

Why? Crunch time. CEOs trying to push out a game every 2 years, seldom lets the love these developers have for the series to be fully baked. This is a huge problem when it comes to the quality of this series in the long run.

When you say "yeah, its not perfect, but it still looks fun!", "These games look lackluster but the gameplay is good!", "The story is great, but the game runs poorly and I encounter a glitch every 20 minutes. Its fine though!" This is part of the problem!! If the CEO sees that people will still buy their product because of a Brand name, it will just incentivise the devs getting worse and worse treatment, because as long as something is labeled with "Pokémon", no matter how poor the quality compared to previous entries, will sell. The CEOs will see this and be like, "oh! People bought and enjoyed Scarlet and Violet despite its flaws! Maybe that means we can get away with mistreating our workers more for our next title!"

As a long time Pokémon fan, and an aspiring game dev myself, this is mortifying. The decision to settle for less, because 1 aspect of a game is tolerable, is absolutely terrifying to me.

It takes more than just 1 good aspect to make a good game. Good games, for example, old gen pokémon games consist of Good Aspects (good art direction, story, gameplay, polish, music) all around. It doesnt skimp out on one or two, It tries its best to go the full distance to make the players time feel worthwhile.

But its not like that anymore! I constantly see people settling for less with this series as new games come out, with less and less of those aspects that make a good game. SWSH gameplay and story was lacking, it coasted along on art direction and music, and people still bought it, because those are pretty important aspects to having a good game. Not required of course, but should at least tried to meet a standard. Scarlet and Violet is pushing this concept further. Scarlet and Violet, as they are at release, lacks EVERY aspect besides story and music. This doesnt constitute for a very worthwhile experience in my opinion, especially not for the price tag of $60.

I care about this series and its lifespan. I care about it a lot. But seeing poor business practice affecting the product, the games, itself, I dont want to buy into it. Im not settling for letting these devs get increasingly shittier conditions just because I convinced their CEO that i will still buy when their workers are suffering and the product is stunted. Money talks, and im not talking anymore. I cant stand the poor treatment anymore because it leaks into the series itself. I dont understand how people can just... let that happen. How they can settle for the devs being treated like this. How they can say "yeah, the devs were treated horribly while working on this and it shows, but I still find it fun!" and feel okay with that? If anything that just shows me that people will be complacent Consumers if it benefits them in the slightest, because its "new" and a "breath of fresh air". It just appeals to having instant gratification.

IF you want a new Pokémon experience, but dont want to shell out $60 for a buggy product that devs were crunched to make, There are Plenty of options!

Consider Fangames (Pokémon Insurgence, Pokémon Wilds, etc.) ! These are games that have taken more than 5+ years of development, and a lot of passion goes into making them. Not to mention, theyre free! Just as good, if not better, from an experience perspective.

Support creators by showing them that you care about their treatment. Dont buy into something and settle for less just because its new. The games industry is already tough enough on creators as it stands right now. Save your $60. Dont show them that you dont care about their devs as long as you get a product. They deserve better, and so do you.
