the shadow of alexia
At 4 years old my entire life changed. One day my dad was at home and the next he wasn’t. Things changed after that. Everyone was sad, lots of people visited too. Sometimes I got new toys when they came over.
Alba was a scary teenager but Alexia. Alexia was my best friend and I was hers. She would take me to kindergarten and pick me up, she never missed a soccer game or ballet recital, she was always there. So was her special friend Jenni. Jenni was great, when I was little she used to let me colour in her tattoos, Everytime she got a new one, she’s get me new pens to colour on her.
As time went on, Alba and Alexia started moving out. Alexia moved in with Jenni and started getting busy with football, Alba still lived with Mami but was busy with her friends and modelling. Mami did the best she could. She was getting older and more tired, she didn’t miss a game or my last ballet recital, she didn’t miss the disappointment in my eyes when Alexia or Alba didn’t turn up. They were busy, I understand.
It went from seeing them a couple times a week, to once a week, to once a month. I learnt pretty quickly the only way to get Alexia’s attention was to either play football or to fuck up. Lucky for me I was good at both. School was boring, it was too easy, I understood it all faster than anyone else. The first time I skipped school, I was 14. No one noticed and no one cared. From there on out it became a routine. At least once a week I’d skip school and hang out with the others.
I personally never did anything too rowdy, just tagged along to enjoy the vibes. The first time I got caught skipping school was by Virginia. She promised me she wouldn’t tell Alexia or Mami and she kept that promise. The next time was by Alba, she lost her shit. Yelling at me about how irresponsible I was being and how much trouble I would get in. The second last time I got caught was by Jenni, I hadn’t seen her in a while, I was mad at her because of that so when she tried to give me a lecture I yelled at her.
“Y/n, you can’t be doing this shit. If Alexia found out she would lose it at you! What would happen if the police got you? What would you do then?”
“Why do you care Jenni? Huh? You left, you haven’t been around. You fucked off to Paris and didn’t even say goodbye. Tell Alexia, I don’t care, at least then she would talk to me.”
“Y/n, did Ale not talk to you about this?” Her voice was incredibly soft. That was something I missed about her, the way she spoke, the softness that was hidden from most people.
“She doesn’t talk to me at all. She doesn’t give a fuck about me.”
“Bebeita, we broke up. Thats why I left. we ended things and to be able to heal I had to leave. I am so sorry, she promised she would talk to you about it. I wanted to say goodbye to you myself but Alexia said it would be a bad idea.”
From there things spiralled. I didn’t want to talk to Alexia, I didn’t want to see her. I stopped going to her games with Mami, I would sneak out when I knew she was coming over. No longer did I look up to her, I hated her. I wanted nothing to do with her.
The day I quit football, I felt free. No longer having to play to get my oldest sisters attention, I didn’t care for that anymore. I had more time to hang out with my friends, to be a normal fucking teenager.
It took a week, it was quicker then I thought to be honest, but once Alexia found out, all hell broke loose.
“Where the hell is she!” Alexia stormed through the house. Surprising Eli.
“Who Alexia?”
“The Idiota. Your mija?” Alexia huffed. Eli was surprised by the way Alexia was acting.
“In her room with her friend.” Before Eli could say anything else, Alexia was off. Swinging open the door and disturbing the peace between you and your girlfriend.
“You, get out.”
“No Alexia. You don’t get to tell her to get out.” I got defensive fast. There’s no way she gets to come here and tell her she needs to leave.
“GET OUT NOW!” Alexia’s ‘captain’ voice was something that always got people moving.
“You don’t get to come here and act like you run the place. News flash alexia, you don’t fucking live here!”
“¡Dios mío! What is happening! Why did Isabella leave crying?” Mami looked pissed. More so at alexia than me.
“Alexia kicked her out. For no reason other than the fact that no one else is allowed to be happy but her.”
“Tell her what you did!” When I was younger, the look she was giving me would’ve scared me, but now it did nothing.
“I didn’t do anything alexia. Whatever your minions are telling you isn’t true. But hey, you wouldn’t listen to me anyway.” I tried to push past her, but she grabbed my wrist stopping me from moving.
“Mami she quit football. She fucking quit. After everything I’ve done for her she throws it back in my face!” Rolling her eyes and scoffing at me.
“Let her go now. I am aware she quit Alexia. She was only doing it for you.” Mami was mad, very mad. Alexia had come and disturbed the peace, making Isabella cry and screaming the house down.
“Grab me like that again I’ll drop you on your ass. I don’t give a fuck that you are la Reina.” The words came out like venom.
Everything is always about Alexia. I joined football to get close to her, I didn’t mean to get as far as I did, I honestly didn’t think I’d get past the academy. Being called up into the Barca B squad was cool. I enjoy the fitness side of it but genuinely couldn’t care less about actually playing.
The same day I quit, was the same day I got called up for the senior team. It sent me into a bit of a spiral. Mapi found me in the corner of the physios room with my sketchbook, crying.
“Oh nena! What’s wrong? Do you want me to get Ale?”
“No! Not ale! Don’t tell her please!”
“Okay no Ale but can you tell me what’s got you so worked up?”
“I got asked to join the senior team and I don’t want to. I only started playing so Alexia would be nice to me and talk to me. I don’t even like this stupid game! I just want to draw but that’ll never be good enough for her.”
After that, Mapi and I would get coffee in the mornings, I would show her my new drawings and tell her my ideas. She paid me to draw a photo of her and Ingrid. I knew she could draw herself but it was nice to have her in my corner. Mapi was talking more about to me Alexia, saying how good my drawings were and how much happier I seemed not having to play, she seemed to miss the confusion written all over Alexia’s face.
•———————————————————————•
Mami had a trip coming up, I knew about this, but what I didn’t know what she was going to make me stay with alexia. Isabella and I came home after the movies to find Mami, Alexia, Alba and some other chick sitting at the table. I mumbled a quick hello before trying to drag Isabella upstairs.
“Don’t be so rude. Actually say hello.” Alexia spoke angrily.
Scoffing I turned around “bite me Alexia.”
“¡Dios mío! Isabella Mi vida, it’s time for you to go home. You can wait upstairs for your Mami.”
“Mami no. That’s not fair. She doesn’t get to come in here and start bossing everyone around!”
“It’s okay amor, I should go home anyway. We have that biology exam anyway.”
“Now that your little friend is gone, sit down.”
“No.”
“SIT DOWN.”
“Ale, Cálmate.” The mysterious brunette says as she places her arm on alexia’s.
Fuck all this shit honestly. Turning as fast as I could I ran upstairs, knowing Alexia would follow quickly. I was right. I was barely able to push my dresser against the door before she tried to open it. I was not going to sit at that table and play happy families.
After an hour of listening to Alexia curse, she finally gave up. It was peaceful until Alba climbed through my bedroom window.
“Still got it.”
“Alba what the hell!”
“Hermana, I don’t know what happened between you and Ale, but if it’s the same thing that happened between me and you then you need to talk to her. She’s worried about you and scared. She doesn’t want to lose you.”
“She only cares now that she thinks her precious imagine is going to get hurt.”
“If you talk to her now, while Olga is here, it’ll be easier. She calms Alexia down and makes her think more rationally.”
“Who the fuck is Olga?” Was that the mysterious brunette in the dining room?
“What do you mean? She’s alexia’s girlfriend? You’ve met her before?”
“No I haven’t. I didn’t know she had a girlfriend.”
“Yes you met her a dinner a few months ago? She comes to Ales games and on Fridays when we have dinner!”
“I wasn’t invited to that dinner, I don’t go to Alexia’s games and I certainly don’t go to Friday dinners!” The angry tears started. Alexia was my hero, my bestfriend, the person I wanted to be and now I’ve been pushed aside. I know nothing about her and she equally knows nothing about me.
Alba pulled me in tight, letting me cry on her. It was weird doing it with her, she used to be the reason I cried and not the one to comfort me. But here we are, things change I guess.
“Mami really needs to talk with you so we need to go downstairs.” Begrudgingly I let alba pull me down the stairs. It was obvious to everyone that I had been crying, mami’s face softening when she saw me, Alexia’s face frowning in confusion.
“You wanted to talk so please do it quickly. I want to go to bed.” I tried to speak as respectfully as I could to Mami, it wasn’t her fault.
“Mija, I’ll be away for a month, you know this si?” I nodded my head before she continued, “you’re too young to stay here for a month alone so you’re going to stay with Alexia and Olga. You can still see your friends and will go to school, but they will look after you.”
“Mami no! I can look after myself!”
“You’re 16 chica. You’re not an adult like you think you are.” Alexia scoffed from the other side of the table.
“So what? You’re shipping me off to stay with Alexia, who won’t even been there half the time and a stranger? That’s safer? Some person that I’ve never met and sure as shit don’t trust!”
“Stop being such a Perra! You have met Olga, plenty of times! She comes to all the games she can, and to dinners all the time.”
“Ale stop” Alba knew what was coming and tried to stop it but it was too late.
“Dios mío, your head is so far up your own arse isn’t it? I haven’t been to a single game in over 8 months, I don’t get invited to you stupid little Friday night dinners and I have never met your girlfriend! Up until an hour ago I didn’t even know you had a fucking girlfriend Alexia. Everything is always about you. You and your stupid football or your stupid knee. I bet you right now you couldn’t tell me anything about what I’ve done in the last year, can you?”
“I know you quit football because you’re being a brat.”
Her answer honestly made me chuckle “Okay Alexia, anything else?”
Silence. She couldn’t tell you a single thing.
“Yeah that’s what I thought. You know nothing about me and that’s how it’s going to stay. I dont trust you, I don’t like you and I sure as shit don’t love you. You’re not my Hermana.” With hot tears falling down my face, I stormed back upstairs. I text Isabella asking if I could stay over and once she replied with a yes, I was gone. Out the window like Alba had come in an hour earlier. I texted Mami to let her know, I wasn’t that horrible to make her worry.
“Mami, you can’t let her talk to people like that! She’s incredibly disrespectful!”
Alba rolled her eyes and scoffed. “Are you serious? That girl used to hang off you. She looked up to you. It was always you alexia and now she wants nothing to do with you. You don’t invite her places, you don’t care about her. I noticed ages ago she was pulling away and I fixed it. Did you know she has a girlfriend? Or that she’s taking senior classes because she’s the smartest there? Or the fact that people are paying her to make them art or buying the pieces she already has. She quit football because she hates it. She hates it because of you. You ruined it for her. Mami, I will stay here with her while you’re gone. It’ll be better that way. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to drop her off at Isabella’s.”
“No! It’s a school night! She cannot be going out!” It seems everything that was just said to Alexia, went in one ear and out the other.
“Alexia stop it now. She is allowed to stay at her girlfriend’s house, she has an exam at 1pm. Maybe you need to listen to what people are saying to you. I am going to bed, I suggest you all do the same, at your own houses.”
“Why does no one listen to me!” Alexia was annoyed, overwhelmed and tired. It had drained a lot of her energy being here tonight.
“Ale, I’m going to say this one time, you need to listen to what everyone has told you tonight, really listen, because you aren’t. You need to fix things with her but you need to sort your shit out first.” Olga had stayed silent most of the night, listening to everything that was said knowing her girlfriend wouldn’t. You were right, you had never met each other. What Olga didn’t realise was that it was Alexia’s fault, not yours. She put it down to being a moody teenager who was too cool to hang out with her sisters, oh how wrong she was.
•———————————————————————•
Two days before Mami was meant to go away, Alba rang saying she couldn’t stay over. She had gotten a modelling gig in Madrid and needed to go, that left Alexia and Olga. It would be the longest month of my life. Mami promised nothing would change just because I was staying here, she was wrong. Alexia was a bitch.
The first few days were fine, alexia would drop me off at school and I’d make my way home after, I generally spend it was Isabella because Alexia wouldn’t let her come over. We go into the city centre, get coffee and do our homework then catch the bus home. We did this even when Mami was here so it wasn’t anything new but when Alexia found out she hit the roof.
“You cannot be going into the city by yourself! Are you thick in the head?”
“Jesus Christ alexia! I’m not alone. Isabella is with me. Mami lets me do it so I’m going to keep doing it.”
“Is Isabella the reason you’re skipping school too?”
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.” I scoffed, storming off the guest bedroom and slamming the door so hard it made Olga jump.
By the third day of me being there, Alexia had turned up to pick me up herself. I tried to completely ignore her but Isabella had other ideas.
“Your sister is death staring me right now.”
“No amor, not you but me. Oh fuck here we go, she’s coming over here.”
“Get in the car y/n.”
“No. I told you yesterday that I’m allowed to do this. You’re not the boss of me.”
“Bebeita, it’s fine. I’ve got chores to do for papa anyway. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She kissed my cheek and then walked away, leaving me no choice but to get in Alexia’s car.
The car ride was hell. Alexia was pissed, her hands constantly gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckle turned white. Neither of us spoke. To be honest, I didn’t know where we were going until we turned up at the training ground.
“Why are we here?”
“We have training. Get out.”
“No alexia. I quit. What part of that don’t you understand.”
“Get out now, or I will drag you out.”
Knowing she would literally drag me out, I had to wait it out. She’d turn her back eventually and I could leg it. I’m faster than her and more willing to jump fences.
The time came sooner than I thought, after entering the change rooms, she threw a set of clothes into my chest and walked off to the bathrooms. This was my chance and I wasn’t going to waste it.
Throwing the clothes into her cubby, I legged it out the door. Running past Mapi, Ingrid and Ona who all had confused looked on their faces. As soon as I got out, I kept running, knowing i had to get a head start. I wasn’t really sure where I was going, I knew I couldn’t go back to Alexia’s, Olga would be there. I couldn’t go home because that’s the first place she’d go, I couldn’t go to Albas because she drag me back by my ear. There was only one place to go.
Can Cuyás Golf Culb was the best place to hide. Sure someone might see me, but it’s easy enough to pretend to be lost.
The first thing Alexia noticed when she came out was the lack of you. Then the clothes she had given you, thrown back into her cubby.
“Have you seen y/n?” She asked as she turned to the girls in the locker room.
“She ran past us like 5 minutes ago?” Ona spoke up.
“Did she say anything?”
“No she was in a bit of a hurry Ale.” Mapi rolled her eyes at her best friend.
“Fuck sake.” Alexia exited the locker room, walking through the facility to try and find you. Slight panic kicked in when she wasn’t able too. Deciding to call Alba first, knowing you’d been closer to her the past few months.
“Hola Ale, to what do I owe this pleasure?” The sarcasm dripping from her voice.
“Have you seen y/n?”
“No why? What happened?” Panic arising in Alba.
“I picked her up from school and bought her to training. Gave her clothes to change into and I went to the toilet and came back and she was gone. She fucking ran off.”
“Why the hell would you try and make her train Alexia! She quit. She doesn’t want to play anymore!” Alba quickly became anger with the oldest Putellas.
“She is too good to throw it all away! She’s being a stupid child about all of this!” Quickly becoming defensive, not enjoying the way Alba is talking to her.
“You’re unbelievable. I haven’t seen her, I will try and find her. Don’t you worry, put your football above her like you always do.”
“Alba-“ she hung up before alexia could get another word in. There was one person left that Alexia had to call.
“Hola amor, why aren’t you training?” Olga’s sweet voice sounded through the phone.
“I’ve lost y/n. Can you please let me know if she comes home and if she does then don’t let her out of your sight.”
“What do you mean you’ve lost her Ale?”
“I bought her to training and she ran away while I was in the bathroom.” Pinching the bridge of her nose, Alexia already knew by the silence on the other end that Olga was trying to not yell at her.
“Alexia-“
“No I know okay. I already got an ear full from Alba. I have to go but I’ll call you later okay. I love you.” Slowly it started to creep in the fact that she had fucked up and caused you to run away. Training dragged on for Alexia, hoping that you had been found or made contact with Alba or even Olga.
Meanwhile, after hiding at the golf course for an hour, i decided to head to Isabella’s house. Knocking on the door, Isabella answered, still buttoning up her shirt. Eyes wide when she realised I was at her door.
“Wh-what are you doing here?” She closed the door slightly, so I could no longer see into the loungeroom.
“I ran away from Alexia. I was hoping we could hang out like normal?”
“Now’s not really a good time. I have someone here.” Isabella spoke quietly, not wanting to allude to the fact that the person inside wasn’t just a friend.
“Baby come back, we weren’t finished.” A guys voice yelled out.
“It’s not what you think y/n!”
“I think that guy wants your attention. I’m guessing that’s the reason you’re half dressed. Enjoy your time with him, we are done.” Tears welling in my eyes.
“I’m sorry y/n!”
“Go fuck your self Isabella.” sadness turned into anger real quick.
Isabella was my first girlfriend, my first kiss, the first person I had sex with and she goes and fucks a guy? While we are together? This is literally the last thing I wanted to deal with.
Unsure on what to do, or who to call I found my way to the beach. My throat and eyes hurt from crying so much. The pain in my chest was getting worse. Pulling out my phone, ignoring all the messages and calls, I rang the one person who would calm me.
“Hey Calabaza? What’s up?” Jenni’s voice rang through my ears. Unable to form a coherent sentence, only sobs coming out of my mouth.
“Hold on Bebé” I could hear her moving around, the voices of her teammates getting quieter, “talk to me. What happened?”
“I ran away. I ran away from Alexia and I went to Isabella’s house and she-she was cheating on me. With a guy. A fucking dude. She broke my heart Jenni. It hurts so much.”
“Oh babé. Where is Ale now? Where are you?”
“I don’t know. She’s probably at training. I’m at the beach where Papa used to take us. She’s going to be so mad at me.”
“Can you tell me why you ran away from her?” The way Jenni spoke so sweetly was something I missed dearly.
“She got me from school and took me to the training grounds. She was trying to make me train but when she went to the bathroom I ran away. I don’t want to train, I don’t want to play. I hate the game and I hate her. She doesn’t listen or care about me!” I could feel myself getting upset again.
“Okay okay, just breathe. You’re okay. I’m not going to tell her where you are but I need to tell someone. Albs has messaged me and so has Olga. You can pick who I tell.”
Pondering the options, Alba would tell Alexia but she’d also be just as angry and upset. Olga would tell Alexia but she’d be calmer and softer, that was what I needed at this moment.
“Olga. But tell her not to bring Alexia.”
“Okay bebé.” After a few moments she spoke up again, “she’s on the way. She promised no Alexia. Do you want to stay on the line with me until she comes?”
“Yes please. Can you tell me about Mexico?” Sniffling and wiping my face, I got up, walking towards the road to wait for Olga. After 25 minutes, Olga pulled up. A sad smile and worry on her face, she put an arm around me.
“Is Olga there now?” Jenni asked.
“Yeah she is. Uh thanks Jenni. Sorry for disturbing you.” Embarrassed about haven taken her time.
“No bebé, you don’t need to thank me or apologise. We are hermanas no matter what okay. You call me tomorrow when you’re feeling better. I love you.” with that she hung up. Reality slowing sinking it.
“Let’s get you home yeah? Are you hungry?” Olga smiled sadly at me.
“No thanks. Just tired.” I mumbled out.
The drive back to Alexia’s was quiet. When we pulled up, Alexia’s car wasn’t there, meaning she wasn’t home. That was good. Very good.
“She’s at Albas house. I told her you had messaged me but that I didn’t know where you were yet. It’s a small lie, but I’m sure it’s worth it.”
“Alexia hates lying.” I said lowly. Thinking back to all those times as a small girl that she yelled at me for lying.
“I know Pequeño. Do you want to tell me what happened today?”
“Everyday Isabella and I go into the city and have coffee and do our homework, but today Alexia came to school and got me. She drove us to the training grounds and said I had to train. But I-i quit. I don’t want to play anymore, I don’t enjoy it and only did it for Alexia but it was never enough. Nothing I do is ever enough for her.” Olga grabbed my hand, giving it a squeeze for me to continue.
“I went to Isabella’s house and she had someone there. A guy, a guy that she was fucking. She was cheating on me for god knows how long. I thought everything was good with us. She was my first girlfriend and my first kiss. I lost my fucking virginity to her and she goes and fucks someone else? It just hurts. So much. Everything is hurting so much.”
“Oh pequeño. Come here.” Olga held me tight, my tears slowly soaking her shirt.
“Why doesn’t she love me like she loves Alba? I don’t understand.”
“Alexia?”
“Mhm. Nothing I do is good enough. I just want her to care about me more. Why can’t she?” It broke Olga’s heart hearing me say that. She didn’t know what was happening but she knew Alexia needed to fix it and fast.
After slowly showering, I thanked Olga and excused myself to bed. I didn’t think I had any tears left to cry but after crying for a while, I managed to pass out.
•———————————————————————•
After you went to your room, Olga texted Alexia, telling her she was here and safe. Alba and Alexia both rushed back to her home. Angry and worried at you, ready to both give you an ear full.
“Where is she Olga?” Alexia came in loudly.
“Keep your voice down. Both of you.” Olga was very firm.
“No she’s in trouble. She doesn’t get off lightly, we have been so worried about her.” Alexia sooke back angrily, usually she’d listen to her girlfriend but this had sent her into a rage.
“Really Ale? You’ve been worried? So worried you couldn’t train right? That you spent all night calling her friends or going to her favourite spots to try and find her?” Olga had had enough.
“Amor that’s not fair.”
“No you know what’s not fair? The fact that neither of you have been listening to her. She doesn’t want to play, she did it for you Ale. She wanted to make you proud of her. She hated playing but you wouldn’t know that. She loves to draw, and she’s really really good at it. She showed me all her work.”
Olga walked to the couch, extremely disappointed with the two women standing in front of her.
“Her girlfriend cheated on her. She found out this afternoon. She rang Jenni and Jenni messaged me. That’s how I found her. She was at the beach, heartbroken. Then when we got home, she asked why you didn’t love her Ale. She thinks you don’t care about her. That girl may have broke her heart tonight, but you broke her heart first Alexia. You’ll need to live with the fact that you were her first heartbreak.” Olga was exhausted. Neither Alexia Or Alba said anything. Both sitting in opposite ends of the lounge room, tears silently falling.
Olga excused herself to bed, leaving the older two in the lounge room to mull on their thoughts. She promised herself after your heartbreaking confession that she would have your back through this. Whatever tomorrow held, you would face it together.

If I may (forgive me, I don't know how CPS works, I had to make up names, and it's long):
As a correspondent for Casper County Child Protective Services, Julia is unfortunately used to taking plenty of calls, especially for the city of Amity Park.
Julia is also used to getting calls regarding the Fentons. At least half a dozen of her coworkers have their own personal accounts of the peculiar couple and their children, and Julia has twice had to stop by Fenton Works and assess the situation for herself. What she and her colleagues have found is a well-meaning, but feckless pair of scientists that continue to *just barely* scrape by every evaluation. If it wasn't for the fact that Jasmine and Daniel Fenton weren't so perfectly happy, healthy, and loved in their home, Julia knows that the Fenton family would've long-since been broken up.
None of this prepares her for receiving The Call.
Julia's shift ends in a little over an hour. The phone rings, and she pulls up both a new tab on her organizational software and a new page on her notepad. She hopes that this call is for something minor, and that it's the last she'll receive for the day, as she wanted to enjoy the rest of the weekend in peace.
Unfortunately, The Call is neither of those things.
"This is Casper County Child Protective Services. I am--" Before Julia can continue her usual spiel, the sound of a wailing child cuts clear across the line.
"It's Maddie Fenton," the voice on the other end says, just barely heard over the cries.
Julia sighs and begins to pull up the usual file. "What have the Fentons done this time?"
"I think you misunderstood," the voice continued, "This is Maddie Fenton. I'd like to file a--." More cries drown out Dr. Fenton's words, and soon the light sound of footsteps and a closing door can also be heard. The cries don't quite stop, but they are much more muffled.
"....are you reporting yourself and your husband?" Julia asks. It wouldn't be the first time a parent has called CPS and requested that their children be removed from their own custody. Sometimes, bad parents are just good enough to recognize when their child deserves better than them, and other times, good parents know that they are spiraling or hitting a rough patch hard enough that they cannot continue to give their children what they need. Julia has always respected those types of people the most.
"No, I...." Dr. Fenton said, "It's about my sister's son, Timothy Turner."
Julia searches for the name in the Casper County database, only to find nothing. "I'm sorry, that name doesn't appear to be in my files."
"It probably wouldn't be in Amity Park. My sister Luisa and her husband live in Dimmsdale."
Julia expanded her search to the city in question and found a Turner family living in Dimmsdale.
"Right, then. May I ask how old Timmy is?"
"He's six."
She then asked Dr. Fenton to describe the problem that led her to call CPS.
"My sister and I have not always had the closest relationship," Dr. Fenton explained, "Luisa can be a bit flighty and airheaded, making communication difficult. I'd often make a few calls, only for them to be ignored and responded to a month later. It didn't really bother me much until Luisa had a kid."
"Did you worry that your sister's tendencies would make her forgetful in regards to her child's care?"
"There were a few moments, but I didn't think they would stick," Dr. Fenton said after a moment of thought, "I thought there might be growing pains, but I guess I thought having a child might force Luisa to become more mature. But I was wrong. My sister and her husband are obviously not taking their duties as parents seriously, and I think there might be some major problems."
"Such as?" Julia egged on, grabbing a pen and preparing to jot down notes.
"From the beginning, Jack and I noticed a few odd remarks. Thomas, Luisa's husband, really wanted a daughter. When Luisa was pregnant, he would go on about all the father-daughter things they would do together. But when they had Timmy instead, it was as if Thomas and Luisa were never expecting. Thomas didn't once mention any of the activities or other things, and barely mentioned Timmy at all beyond lamenting the fact that he didn't have a 'precious babygirl'."
"That is very concerning," Julia agreed, "Is there anything else?"
"Yes. Whenever we would visit Luisa for weekends or holidays or such, we'd often find Timmy alone at the house. I took Luisa aside and told her that her son wasn't old enough to stay by himself and that he needed a babysitter. She got him one, thankfully, but when we came over next time, Timmy immediately burst into tears and told us how his babysitter would hurt him."
Julia stopped her writing. "Did you tell your sister?"
"Of course I did," Dr. Fenton said, tone irked, "But Luisa dismissed it out of hand. She and Thomas both claimed that Timmy was just lying for attention. But the way my nephew looked, I.... I just couldn't take any chances. So one weekend, about three months ago, Jack and I took the kids to Dimmsdale a couple hours early to see if we could catch the babysitter in the act. And what we found--"
A disgruntled, grunting noise came from the other end of the receiver.
"It was horrible. That vile witch of a teenager had Timmy tied up like a prized hog at a fair, and had dozens of weapons and torture instruments all laid out. We swung open the front door to see her laughing manically at Timmy's tears, nine-tails whip raised in hand. She tried to play it off, but we caught her red-handed and she knew it."
"Jack and the kids stayed with Timmy, but I took the girl aside and made it very clear that if she stepped within ten feet of my nephew again, I would tear her apart molecule by molecule. Then we waited for Luisa and Thomas to get home so we could explain the situation. They finally arrived just before midnight, the both of them tipsy from a date night out. Jack and I tried to explain the situation again, but they dismissed it. Again."
"Did you attempt to contact Dimmsdale police or CPS when you found the babysitter?" Julia asked, wondering what the fuck kind of trainwreck she was getting dragged into.
"Yes, we did," Dr. Fenton confirmed, "The police were useless. Apparently, the babysitter would sit for the officers, and they all claimed that she was an 'absolute godsend' that could 'straighten out even the most delinquent of children'. CPS wasn't much better, and when we went to try and talk with her parents, they seemed just as terrified of her as Timmy was. So Jack and I discussed our options and finally told my sister and her husband that we would babysit Timmy whenever it was needed, no charge required."
Julia made a note to report Dimmsdale CPS to Internal Affairs, all the while encouraging Dr. Fenton to continue. Not that much encouragement was needed. It seemed as if Dr. Fenton was finally releasing weeks' worth of frustration towards her sister, brother-in-law, and overall situation.
"The first time we babysat, we had to drive the two hours to Dimmsdale and get Timmy ourselves. Neither Luisa or Thomas made mention of what their plans were for pickup, or when they'd be done with whatever they were doing. They just absently told us goodbye and drove off. We packed up a few of Timmy's toys-- all of which were birthday and Christmas gifts from us, mind you --and then went back to Amity Park. It was a fun day, but once we were done with dinner, we started calling Luisa and Thomas to see where they were, and we still didn't receive an answer. We eventually decided to drive Timmy back. We came home to an empty house, and didn't leave until the Turners came in a little after two."
"The second time we babysat, Jack and I ran a bit of an experiment," Dr. Fenton confessed, "We picked Timmy up on a Friday after school, packed him a few changes of clothes, and then took him back to our place. We waited the entire weekend to see if either Luisa or Thomas would notice we had essentially kidnapped their son. They didn't call or text once. The only reason we took Timmy back to Dimmsdale was because he had school Monday morning."
"Jesus fucking Christ," Julia swore under her breath.
"And that brings us to now," Dr. Fenton said, "Jack and I picked up Timmy, but this time, we refused to leave Dimmsdale until Luisa and Thomas gave us straight answers as to where they were going, what they were doing, and when they would pick up their son. Apparently, Thomas has a Pencil Conference in Pennsylvania. They assured us that Timmy would be coming with them. Their flight leaves from the O'Hare airport at six. It is currently a quarter past four, I have been trying to call my sister for three hours and received no answer, and my nephew is crying his eyes out because he is a six-year-old child who misses his parents no matter how horrible they may be. And I just... don't know what to do."
Julia let out a shaky breath before creating a new case file and saying to the defeated-sounding woman, "You've done the right thing in calling today, Dr. Fenton."
"...thank you," she said, "I know this is the right thing for my nephew, but my sister..."
"Your sister is a grown woman who has made her choices," Julia dismissed before creating a new file, "Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds as if you and your husband wouldn't be opposed to housing Timmy as we get this situation dealt with."
"That is correct, yes. The kids love their cousin, and Jack and I just want Timmy to be happy and safe."
"Good. What I am going to do, Dr. Fenton, is contact a judge in Amity Park and tell them to grant you emergency custody of Timothy Turner. I am also going to contact the proper channels to start an investigation into the Dimmsdale CPS, the Dimmsdale police, and the babysitter who terrorized your nephew. What was her name?"
"Vicky," Dr. Fenton spat, "Vicky Carter."
"Thank you, Dr. Fenton," Julia said, writing the name down, "Now, we will try to get you emergency custody as soon as possible, but that usually takes a while. Two weeks, at the minimum."
"Thomas and Luisa said the Pencil Conference lasted a week, and that they were thinking of staying for a while to see the sights."
"Well," Julia said, wondering exactly how serendipitous the events turned out to be, "Well, then that just works in our favor. You will most likely receive another visit from Child Protective Services just to confirm that your household can support three children. After that, it would be best if your entire family could refrain from contacting Mr. and Mrs. Turner, as a legal battle to remove your nephew from their care will most likely follow. Are there any particular charges you'd like to level against the Turners?"
"Child neglect and child abandonment," Dr. Fenton answered immediately.
"Well, then we are of the same mind. Please expect a multitude of emails and phone calls in the near future."
"Of course. And thank you, for the help."
Julia said her goodbyes and rose from her desk. As she was making her way to the Internal Affairs office, a few voices called out from the breakroom.
"Uh-oh, somebody's got their business face on," Tyler teased, "Anything we should be worried about?"
"I got a call from the Fentons."
A few chuckles rose up from the room.
"What they'd do this time, cover the 'Spirit of Clean' mascot with neon green silly string?"
Julia frowned and shook her head. "Dr. Maddie Fenton called to report her sister for abandonment and neglect."
The room went quiet enough to hear a pin drop.
"Shit," Tyler murmured, "How fucked up does the case have to be for the Fentons to turn someone in?"
"You don't want to know," Julia said, turning on her heel and continuing down the hall, "You don't want to know."

how chris and cosmetology!reader meet
notes - a cute lil blurb !!
"okay monday it is" nick, matt, and chris has just purchased tickets to fly home to boston for a week. they had no work this week so they could finally relax. matt nodded slugishly in aggreement because nick woke him up to confirm the date. "i gotta' find a barber though mom's gonna flame me again." chris mumbled as he runs a hand through his hair. nick and matt started packing but chris stayed behind and texted his usual barber. of course, chris's barber was in mexico for vacation so he let out a dramatic ass sigh and scrolled on instagram to find a last minute barber. chris eventually stumbled across your page, and mesmerized was an understatement. all he could do now was pray you took male clients.
"dude, snap out of it what shirt should i bring?" matt's voice brought chris out of his trance. "oh..sorry but the red flannel that one's tough" matt nodded as he continued packing. chris dmed you and you had agreed to give him a trim. "nick c'mere" chris said as he made a gesture for nick to come over. nick rolled his eyes and pulled away from his suitcase as he leaned over to glance at his phone. "y'know this girl?" chris questioned. "mhm she does madison's makeup for music videos." nick explained. chris nodded and made a mental note as he continuted to stare at your most recent photo dump.
the next day he stepped into your salon with a soft smile. "oh hi your chris right?" your receptionist questioned sweetly. "mhm" he hummed. "okay you can go sit over there she's just gonna finish up real quick." she directed. "aight, thanks." he nodded as she softly smiled. 5 minutes later you walked in. "hi...hold on...i know your name." you let out a breathy giggle. "chris?" you asked as he beamed and smiled back at you. "okay i'm gonna wash your hair really quickly and then we can talk length and stuff over there." you instructed as he nodded and leaned back so you can have access to his hair.he was now sitting in the salon chair as you finished up cutting his hair. "okay how do we feel?" you said gently as he looked into the mirror.
"your a lifesaver...honestly" he praised. "okay i'll put some product in your hair and then i'll let you go." you said as you made your way over to the samples for your new hair product that was set to release in a couple months. you lathered the product onto your smooth hands and began running your fingers through his silky hair. "all done!" you smiled as you examined your work. you couldn't help but think damn hes hot. "all good?" you questioned softly. "yeah i'm good...thank you...really." a part of him wanted to say no so you could continue running your hands through his hair but he ignored the urge.
2 weeks later
Christopher Sturniolo: I'm going to Madison's MV shooting later. You gonna be there?

July 2025 — Los Angeles, California
“You did what?”
“Azz—”
“No you dumbass, you did what?” Nika cuts in, her voice echoing through my phone speaker as she repeats Azzi’s question.
I had just landed from our latest road trip, mindlessly trying to unpack and clean up around the apartment. Maraye was coming over and I wanted to have everything looking good by the time she showed up.
I’ve kept our conversations brief over the last couple days. Every time I hear her voice it just triggers my throat to close up and my mouth to get all dry.
But I can’t avoid her anymore. Whether I tell her about Nyla or not, she’s bound to find out. So I’m left with no other choice to tell her.
“You really want me to say it again?” I ask them, turning down the volume on my phone. Each time one of them yells it feels like my ear drum is seconds away from being ruptured.
“You had sex with Nyla? Why the hell would you do that?” Azzi yells again, confirming the fact that she heard me the first time.
Azzi is filled in on the lore more than anyone. So I know she’s irritated, she almost gave me a concussion when I told her about hooking up with her before the championship. I know if we were in the same room now she might actually render my abilities to play.
“I already told you it was an accident.”
“Oh, you accidentally fell into some pussy? Good luck explaining that to Maraye.” Nika laughs at me. I just know if I could see her face she’d be red from laughter.
“You didn’t tell her yet? Oh my—”
Azzi obvious exasperation is cut off when I hear my front door knock. My heart starts beating rapidly in my chest. I swallow the lump in my throat and reach for my phone.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s at the door so we can talk later.” I breathe, not even waiting for a response before hanging up on the group call.
My feet drag against the floor on the way to the door.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve been nervous for a girl to come over to my place. Even when she was here last week, it felt natural. Like she was supposed to be here anyway.
But now my palms are all sweaty and slipping against the silver doorknob.
I think I might stop breathing the second I see her. Raye’s always been perfect, she could be wearing a garbage bag and I’d still think that’s true. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen her in person completely barefaced, not even a little blush on her cheeks or mascara on her lashes.
Just her. No enhancers, and looking as beautiful as I’ve ever seen her.
Raye wears that one jacket that every girl in LA seems to own, the Lululemon one. I didn’t get it at first but now I totally get the hype, the navy fabric clings to her arms and waist and everything in between, making her body look otherworldly. The matching shorts, however, are too damn short. I might not be able to control myself.
“So, can I come in?” Her nose scrunches as she asks almost like she’s shy but also teasing me over my gawking.
I don’t even waste any time tugging her arm and pulling her body into mine for me to hold.
I can’t help but grin to myself at how fast she returns the gesture, her arms wrapped around my neck and mine pressed to her lower back. Raye kicks the door shut behind her, humming softly.
It feels light, the hug. Almost like thousands of pounds of weight were lifted off of both of us and now we’re just floating together.
“Someone missed me, huh.”
I let out a breathless laugh, resting my head on top of hers. She smells incredible. “So fuckin’ bad, Raye.”
Raye is pulling back from me slowly, limb by limb detaching from me with a little fight as if they were stuck.
My lip travels between my teeth, looking over her whole outfit once again. Navy looks so good on her, and I start thinking that I might have to buy her more colors of this exact set because of what it’s doing to me.
“This lil set is cute.” I compliment, tugging at the spandex material on her mid thigh.
“Yeah?” Raye asks, looking over her own body. “I was supposed to go to the gym and then you called.”
The statement brings an embarrassing smile to my face. The fact that she dropped what she was doing, changed her plans to come and see me.
I’m embarrassingly whipped over her.
“We can do sum exercise here. No worries.” I smirk. She’s quick to drop a hand from my shoulder to mush my face off to the side.
“Shut up.” Raye giggles, “you wanna get some food?”
I lick my lips as slyly as I can, which really is a lot harder than I thought. There’s something, something that makes my mind run a thousand miles a minute. Her eyes, which I swear I’ve been obsessed with since we first met. Her skin, it’s glowing, looking like glitter that covers her skin. The smell of whatever curl cream she used lingers in my nose.
“Well I needa shower first, and then I wanted to talk.” I explain. My hands trail down to the backs of her thighs, just under the curve of her ass. She lets me, not even fighting me off or telling me that all of this is wrong. It’s the most intimate I’ve ever been with her that hasn’t led to kissing her.
Which makes me want to do it even more.
“About?”
"You." I say gently pushing her back against my front door and Raye raises her eyebrows. "And me." I add on.
Her tongue slightly slips from her lips, poking at the corner in the way it does when she’s concentrating or listening or thinking. She holds the back of my neck with one hand, her acrylics grazing the hair at my nape. I shudder, finger nails subconsciously digging into her skin.
“Okay.”
—
I’m not sure what I thought Paige’s room would look like. Her apartment— large and spacious, floor to ceiling windows, lights that set the mood so well that i’m sure every girl she’s had in here was throwing themselves at her— fits her completely. But her bedroom, is almost bare.
Cream white walls and a bed in the center. Oddly enough, there’s no purple decorating it like I assumed. Her duvet is a tan color, pillows that match, and a white throw blanket that is a nice addition to it.
The mattress nearly sucks me in when I lay back on her bed. Her phone in my hand as I order us some Chinese as per her request.
I can’t help but let my eyes wander. The room is clean. So clean, not a single book or pencil or sock out of place.
A bible sits on her beside table, along with a journal and some pens.
Then the more I look around the more the room becomes Paige. The bible is her, the picture on her full length mirror of her and her siblings, the framed piece of nylon she cut down from the net in April, the affirmations on sticky notes above her dresser. It’s all Paige. Everything that I know makes her the annoyingly smart, beautiful, and sweet blonde that I know her to be.
And she gets to be mine. As soon as I tell her that Julian isn’t my boyfriend anymore, things get to be the way they should be. I get to feel good around her rather than guilty.
Even if I do. If I do feel guilty for enjoying myself around her, I’d live with it. Because it’s Paige, and no matter what she always finds a way to get my mind off of everything.
My ears perk up the second I hear the shower turn off and I swing my feet off the side of the bed, almost in excitement of seeing her face again.
Her phone buzzes avidly on the blanket, just slightly muffled but I still hear it. I reach for it immediately, thinking that It’s our DoorDasher confirming our order. I type in the password she told me, clicking on the message notification.
lmk when you get bored of that LA girl again
i’ll be right here like i always am 😂
When you’re like me, and have been in your fair share of shitty relationships, you sort of become numb to it all. The lying, the hurt, the yelling.
I deal with it through music. Spending hours in the studio or in my room writing. It works. It helps me remember that the Earth will keep spinning.
But for a second, it does feel like the world has stopped. Like the planet, that spins a thousand miles an hour, has come to a complete halt and everything is just crashing around on me.
I have to stop looking, protect what’s left of that goodness in my heart and not keep fucking reading. But my thumb moves anyway. I read this girl’s text to Paige from last Sunday. The day after I stood in her arms and told her I’d make a decision. The night after she told me she’d wait for it.
A texts that reads: “had fun ;)”
That fucking wink. It makes me seethe. I swear it’s meant for me, just to rub it all in my face. My heart thumps so loud, and I feel like I’m underwater just drowning.
Within seconds I’m scrolling through what seems like years of texts messages, years of pictures and intimate texts that make me nauseous.
This has to be what karma feels like. I did it to Julian, right? I kissed and touched on someone else while making a promise to him. And now it’s all getting thrown back at me.
Paige took everything I gave to her, and went and gave it to someone else.
Her bathroom door glides open, a cast of steam coming into the room and she follows. “Are you sure y’on’t want anything more comfy to wear? Y’look sexy, but I can—”
Paige stops when she sees I’m not looking at her but rather that my eyes are trained to her phone.
“Ma, you aight?”
“Let me know when you get bored of that LA girl again, I’ll be right here like I always am. Paige, do you take me for a joke?” I ask her, rereading the text out loud to her before finally looking up.
I can’t let her see my tears, the ones that build and poole at my waterline, but Goddamnit they sting. Everything does. My throat feels small, the lump in my throat huge in contrast. And I want to cry. Like all this, all the confusion and the trust and the happiness she made me feel was all for nothing.
I see all the color drain from her face in an instant. Her shoulders dropping.
Paige only has on a sports bra and some sweatpants, the white towel around her neck picks up all the water that drips from that perfect blonde hair, and I’m so mad at myself for thinking about how irresistible she looks.
It’s entirely too reminiscent of the first time we met, when she was all flushed as sweaty and standing there looking like everything I’ve ever wanted.
Now I look at her and just feel like a boulder is crushing my chest.
“Raye.” She starts, stalking over to me and I stand up, feeling like that’s the best thing I can do to stop her from touching me. “Baby, just listen.”
“Me? Listen? To what. Listen to you lie to me about how you just want me? Because you obviously don’t.” I shake my head at her. “It took you 24 hours, Paige. 24 hours and you were fucking some other girl.”
“I—” She starts, sighing and tossing the towel in her hand on the bed. “I thought you chose him and I got drunk.” She babbles. Each step she takes towards me sets me off just a little more, and I feel suffocated.
“I didn’t! God!”
“What?”
“I didn’t fucking choose him, Paige. We broke up, I ended it. But instead of communicating with me when I called you, you went all silent on me.”
My voice cracks as I feel my composure slipping. It’s unbelievable, the entirety of it all.
“But now it all makes sense. You were with her.” I laugh, except it’s not funny. I think it’s the only thing I can do to stop me from lashing out at her, screaming and crying and fighting her in a way that makes me look like the bad guy.
Paige’s eyes flicker. And I know her. The confident and slightly cocky blonde girl that would double down on anything. She’s stubborn, more than me, so when I see it; the slight hint of guilt in those crystalline blue eyes, I know she’s not going to say anything I want her to.
“Wait a minute, you don’t get to be mad at me over this.” She shoots. The words hit my heart violently, sharp, like a knife. “You were with him. The whole time, who I was with is not something you get to be mad over.”
“You knew, Paige! You knew I was with Julian. And I fuckin’ told you over and over that this had to stop. Don’t turn it back on me when it’s what you wanted.” I defend, my voice cracking under her gaze.
She’s nearly unrecognizable. This isn’t Paige. Or at least the Paige I knew and fell for, because I thought she would never do something like this to me, yet she did.
Paige takes a step back from me, running her fingers through her wet hair.
“You don’t have the right to tell me what I can and can’t be mad about. I trusted you.”
“Julian trusted you.” She says, bitter and harsh. “But that didn’t stop you from kissin’ me and tellin’ me you have feelings for me, right?”
“That’s not the same—”
“It’s exactly the same, Maraye!” She yells. “But I’m tellin’ you the truth. I’m tellin’ you straight what happened, and you ain’t even do that for him.”
Maybe it’s the way she says it all like it certain. Like she knows me so well that she assumed I didn’t tell Julian anything. Or even the way her voice is so animalistic, full of emotion that I’ve never heard from her. But I lose it. All that is left of my composure, if you could even call it that, goes down the drain and I’m breaking down.
The tears in my eyes finally slip, making my lashes stick together. They’re hot, burning my cheeks.
I hate that I’m letting her see me cry, hate that she gets to see me this emotional. She doesn’t deserve to see me cry. Paige doesn’t deserve to know that she hurt me this bad.
At the same time, I want her to see it. To understand how fucking stupid her actions were. That what she did hurt me to my core, because I don’t even cry in front of people like this. But I am for her. I’m crying, and the tears don’t fucking stop falling.
“You think you know me! You don’t know me, Paige.” My eyes narrow and my arms fall to my sides. “I told him everything. I told him that you made me feel different, so much better than he ever could. A-and I told him I was sorry. I fuckin’ apologized for having feelings for you. I owned up to it, and I messed up so many times but you, God, Paige, you made it all worth it.”
When I look at Paige she isn’t even looking at my eyes. She always does, but now she looks at the ceiling, frustratingly running her hand over her chin.
“And you didn’t. You didn’t tell me the truth, I found out myself like an idiot.” I scream until my voice is raw. Her phone in my hand feels like hot coal, burning my hand and then burning a hole in her sheets when I throw it there. “Fell for you like an idiot.” I murmur under my breath.
“Hol’ on, Angel. C’mon.” Paige says. It’s soft, the quietest her voice has been all night. Of course Paige hears me. She steps to me again, reaching for my hand that I pull back with haste.
“You don’t get to call me that.”
“I made a mistake. A huge fucking mistake, but that doesn’t mean we can’t work this shit out.” Paige reaches for me again, I throw my hands away from her, hitting my hand on her bedside table and breaking a nail in the process.
“Fuck.” I groan, shaking my hand off and turning away from her. “Move!” I yell, stepping to the side so she isn’t that damn close to me.
“Raye—”
“I don’t trust you.” I breathe, shrugging my shoulders at her and trying to wipe the tears that stain my cheeks. “It’s not about working this out. You broke my trust and y’can’t even apologize for it.”
“Jus’ listen. Please.” I hear her voice crack, that guilt I could pick up on when she first came out of the bathroom so evident in the way she looks at me.
Paige’s blue eyes are rimmed with red, I nearly scoff. She doesn’t get to cry. She did this, she went to her, confided in her instead of talking to me. I shake my head in an attempt to wrap my head around all of this.
“I’m sorry.” And I thought that hearing it would make it all better but my chest just burns. I’m honestly running out of patience because this isn’t working. I’ve made up my mind, she’s done something so fucking unforgivable and it’s sad. I never would’ve imagined it from Paige.
“Really, baby. I’m so fucking sorry.”
“I can’t do this.” I blurt like word vomit. “I just can’t. Ion even wanna look at you right now, Paige.”
“Maraye.”
“I’m gonna go.” I say under my breath, nodding as if that’s what I’ve decided to do. I reach for my phone on the dresser, trying to ignore the pulsing feeling in my broken fingernail. The room suddenly feels so small, suffocating. Filled with hot air and lingering insults.
Paige looks at me incredulously. Almost shocked that I was willing to leave it at this, that I didn’t want to hear her out. “I-that’s it? We’re not gonna talk? You just gonna leave like none of this shit matters.” Her voice is low, throat almost scratched raw.
“I don’t know what to say to you that’s not gonna make this worse.” I explain.
“I can fix it, Raye. Please.”
It’s so hard. Hard to not fall victim to everything that she is and give her what she wants.
Believe it or not, I want to, I want to hear her out and have her tell me just how much she regrets it all.
But every time I look at her, I keep thinking about that girl. That girl who had Paige first, seemingly long before I did. Who had her hands in Paige’s hair the same way I do when she’s laying on my couch with her head on my shoulder.
That girl who got to feel Paige’s lips. Soft and plump with that enticing color of pink. The same lips that told me she felt something for me, told me that she’d give me time. The lips that made me feel like I was the only person in the world to her.
Don’t even start on the image of the two of them— a girl who’s probably prettier than I am or funnier or impossibly more into her than I am, and my perfect blue eyed Paige— being together in a way that we haven’t. Kissing and touching and moaning together.
Being together.
It’s nauseating.
So I just turn around, dragging myself to her hallway and to her front door. I can hear her soft footsteps following after me fast. I sniffle as I slip my shoes on, hoping that if I leave just fast enough I can hang on to the words she said to me before she slept with someone else. The words that let me know that it was just us.
Maybe those are enough to get me to forgive her, eventually.
But right now. I can’t.
So I leave. The door slamming shut behind me, and more tears falling before I even get a chance to stop them.

The Long Game pt.1
{Viktor from Arcane Smut Story}
Warnings: Smut, light dom!vik, Fingering, Exhibitionism, AFAB reader, Doodling kink?, Established acquaintanceship so there is some length to this first part, the words- note, pen, doodle, and others associated come up a lot due to the plot, sorry!
Word cound: ~4.5k (25-40 minute read)
Story plot: A holistic healer from NW Shurima works privately for Councilmen Hoskel as a sort of assistant. Viktor and her meet years before the events of Arcane and have an up-down relationship that takes shape over the course of many years. Starting all the way back in their academy years, first knowing each other as respective transcribers for their council mentor/patrons during meetings. Maybe they should have stayed in that room?
Chapter Summary: You work as an assistant for Hoskel and are attending one of the meetings as his note-taker. However, you have a horrible habit of getting distracted during said meetings and not completing notes, instead doodling. Viktor, a peer you have a growing bong with, only within the council chambers, over the last few months decides to try out positive and negative reinforcement. Perhaps taking it to far this time and taking your playful acquaintanceship to a different level.
MDNI NSFW below cut (Far below)
Spending all day at a council meeting wasn’t the exact plan I had for my day, but it wasn’t the worst place I could be. I could be stuck outside in the winter storms that started to blow in a couple days ago. Instead, I sat in the warmth of the council chamber with lukewarm tea in a paper cup at my feet and a half-eaten cheese bangle on the bench to my right. The council heater was on above us, keeping the chill at bay as the snow outside transformed the red brick and golden frames into a picturesque white wonderland. I could appreciate it from the window rather than braving the elements to run errands for my patron in town.
However, as the meeting dragged on, my ears began to feel numb—not from the weather leaking in, but from the endless topics blurting through the air. It was one of those informal meetings that seemed to stretch indefinitely, so much to do as the cold months approached with the dauntingnes of the holidays. Salo always complained about how the undercity's activities affected his business, while Medarada would steer the conversation toward broader trade relations. My pen had begun to wander absent-mindedly over the page, searching for blank spots to occupy. While I had come to enjoy my time in the council chamber, I found little interest in the discussions about transportation, ordinances, or tedious changes to department funding. This time spent here had become enjoyable for an entirely different reason.
As we neared the two-hour mark, doodles began spilling flagrantly into the margins of my notes, my random scratches hidden amongst the sharp sounds of pages flipping and other assistants transcribing. Starting with simple loops and circles in the corners, they quickly grew into intricate flowers with winding vines and leaves that had crawled up the negative space. By now, I had, obvious to those around me, lost track of the meeting entirely, and my attempts at shading the petals were becoming increasingly elaborate.
“Don’t you think you’re playing with fire?” a hushed voice broke through my filibustered concentration, an amused lilt peppering the words. I turned to find Viktor leaning into the edge of my metaphorical bubble, his eyebrow raised as he scrutinized my embellishments. His expression blended playful scrutiny with genuine curiosity, much like a cat trying to determine whether a new toy was worth the effort. The way his brows furrowed slightly as he concentrated only made it harder for me to suppress a smile, especially as his gaze danced from my paper back to my face, a weird mix of anticipation and amusement bubbling within me.
Having becoming Hoskel’s ward a few months ago, Viktor had made it his mission to sit next to me during these meetings. He seemed invested not only in keeping me engaged but also in observing the increasingly elaborate designs that filled Hoskel’s notes, much to the merchant's dismay whenever I handed them in. I still vividly remember my first day—nervous energy radiating from me as I tapped my foot incessantly while the other academy students settled into their seats across the room. I knew no one besides Hoskel, which made me retreat into my own small world, avoiding eye contact and trying to shrink into my bench as if it might protect me.
By the time the meeting started, I had chewed my nails down to stubs and added the frantic clicking of my pen to my growing list of anxious habits, blissfully unaware of the glares directed my way. I scanned the room, desperate for something—anything—interesting to focus on, completely lost to the mundane political discussions swirling around me. That’s when our eyes locked. I was momentarily frozen by his intense, assessing gaze. Golden pools looking from my shoes to my hair. It wasn’t until he placed a hand on his chest, took a deep breath, and flashed me a reassuring smile that I realized I had forgotten to breathe.
By the next meeting, he had claimed the seat beside me, casually convincing the girl on my other side to switch places with him. He became my new distraction, despite his best efforts.
“Chairman Hoskel doesn’t, uh, exactly seem like a pagonia man,” he remarked, head tilting slightly to the notes I had filled with random foliage.
I pursed my lips, forcing back a smile as I lightly bumped my leg against his. “It’s begonia. Like the bergenias I drew last week."
Viktor clicked his tongue before flipping the page of his own notes. “Your language is most confusing. I don’t understand how you manage all the, eh, nuances and rules.”
I couldn’t help but watch him—the way his jaw tightened slightly before he licked his fingers to shuffle his papers. My thoughts wandered to less than respectable places while I jotted down something about lifting restrictions for a project somewhere. “My language? I learned it on the boat ride over-” I was interrupted by the curt shushing from those around us. I risked a glance across the benches and noticed several peers watching us. I sheepishly went back to my notes, feeling my cheeks flush. Viktor shook his head as he mirrored me, neatly correcting his misspelled words while returning my knee bump, keeping his leg pressed against mine.
Since Viktor had settled into his spot next to me, we had developed this little game. Whenever I got distracted, he’d give me a little nudge. It started subtly—just a light bump of with his shoe when I stared into space for too long. Soon after, he began tapping my paper with a finger to bring my attention back; perhaps that's when I develop a bit of a staring problem when it came to his hands. Eventually, there came a day where he took my pen away when my doodling became too extravagant. I remember staring at him wide-eyed in embarrassment, but he simply handed back my pen with a clever grin. I was careful to keep my doodles subtle and less conspicuous until a month or two ago, when he leaned over and whispered that my sketch of his boss resembled an ‘overindulgent gerbil’. His word’s not mine.
After that, the atmosphere in our meetings shifted significantly. The dean’s assistant, whose name I learned through conversations with Hoskel, became increasingly daring with his ‘tactics’, and as the hours dragged on, we began to seek our own ways to pass the time. Our exchanges grew bolder; Viktor’s playful teasing and my daydreaming became hinderances that were hard for either of us to ignore. Each time I got derailed—or tried to—Viktor would lean in to correct me or chuckle at my notes, seamlessly bringing me back into the moment.
We both knew, in the back of our heads, there were very few ways this was going to end.
I tried to refocus, again, on the current discussion about suggesting new tax policies— but with the words "withdrawal" and "ordinances" swirling around the room like a fog it wasn’t long before my pen began dancing across the page once more. I’d rather pay more attention to flowers instead of the dull, useless to me, topics of the day that seemed to never end. I tried to hide it for several minutes, drawing tiny butterflies flitting around, like the ones I saw in the courtyard when I arrived this last spring.
It was like clockwork. As soon as I started to lose track of the meeting Viktor leeeaned in closer, his foot slowly sliding toward mine before lifting up to step on my toes lightly. “If I remember this was the theme for the last meeting, was it not?” he whispered, smirking as he eyed me trying to turn a butterfly into a weirdly shaped lizard.
“Perhaps,” I replied, equally quiet, “but it distracts from the gloom, though, don’t you think?” I smiled proudly when he chuckled. His gaze lingered on my page; his own notes momentarily forgotten as he rubbed his chin in thought. It didn't take long for me to notice that he was still staring, his fingers tapping rhythmically against his small lecture table. When I glanced over, I caught Viktor, lips relaxed into a half-smile, his eyes flitting between me and…
...Was he judging my lizard?
The bench creaked as he scooted closer, his shoulder pressing against mine. The unexpected scent of caramelized sugar wafted as Viktor’s breath brushed down the side of my neck. He craned in, trying to get a good look of my entire drawing. His face was so close that, even as he mumbled to avoid drawing attention from anyone else, I could hear every drawl. I had to force myself not to shiver as goosebumps erupted along my neck, as if his words were grazing my skin. “Is that a... curved... pastry? Odd thing to be in a garden, wouldn’t you agree?”
Even though Viktor was mummering, I could still catch that sly tone beneath it... He was judging my lizard.
I shook his foot off mine, willing the slight chaff in my voice to no take over the volume. “No, it's obviously a lizard. Why would there be a pastry-”
“Will you two please keep it down,” We turned to see our neighbor to my right on the other side of the pew divider, her irritation palpable even through her whispered shout; her expression sour enough to make me giggle nervously under my breath. The sound seemed to shock her even more, compounding my embarrassment.
“Sorry...” I shifted in my seat, suddenly acutely aware of how much I had begun to slouch and returned to writing. Insecurity creeping into my shoulders and causing some muscle spasms I tried to shake off. He wasn’t usual so talkative or suggestive in his actions, something was different today. Perhaps there was a point to be made about needing to curb whatever this dynamic was...
Tick... Tock... Tick.... Tock
Just as my pen started to wander, Viktor seized the moment to step on my toes again. The ever-increasing pressure was a blatant warning this time, igniting a spark of irritation within me that was dangerous when in a pen drop quiet room. If he was hoping to regain my attention, he was failing spectacularly, a gem I made sure to whispered in his direction just to make sure he got the message.
“You’re still not taking notes” He chided, making me lift my foot and step on his toes like I was a child, a fact that I tried to look past. “Your patron might start to think you’re a bad girl- hamph~” He tried to mask his obvious laugh at my humiliated retaliation - via backhand to the chest - in an ill-timed cough. The unnatural, suspicious sound only succeeded in silencing the room, the discussion between our superiors halting instantly.
I hadn’t meant to smack him, especially not in a way that drew everyone's attention, but something about those words wrapped in his Czech accent did all the wrong things. It stirred feelings that absolutely had no place in a council meeting. And, oh, the way Viktor smirked, concealing it with his hand—he knew exactly what he was doing, the bastard.
Always pushing boundaries, and he called me the unfocused one.
All eyes from the council shifted towards our row, centering on Viktor and me. My patron’s face twisted into a scowl, far grimmer than the Yordle scientist beside him, who regarded his assistant with a mix of curiosity and concern rather than outright anger. I did my best to avoid his probing gaze, focusing instead on fidgeting with the edge of my papers.
I had become accustomed to this sort of thing after spending nearly six months with Torman Hoskel. Unlike many of the more complex socialites in Piltover, Hoskel stood out as one of the most one-dimensional people I’d encountered, if not the very most. Stubborn and quick to temper, he occasionally displayed brief flashes of hope, only to have them shattered by his narrow-minded perspective. Hot and cold, blunt to snappy—he was like an emotionally detached father figure. One I couldn’t just run away from.
“My sincerest apologies, sirs, ma’ams,” Viktor began, clearing his throat as he addressed the council on our behalf. I hadn’t even noticed he had stood up, seemingly unfazed by the hushed murmurings from our peers. “Just had a bit of a cough but we—I will remain perfectly silent,” he added, shooting a playful glance over his shoulder, “for the rest of the meeting.”
“I trust that's the case,” Heimerdinger’s high-pitched voice echoed through the chamber, cutting off the whispers and signaling that the session would continue. He glanced at me, suspecting something, but let it go in favor of moving to the next topic on the docket.
Viktor sank back into his seat, a horribly satisfied smile spreading across his face. He took my hand gently as he sat, pulling it away from fidgeting and pinning it between our thighs. His thumb pressed against the back of my wrist, his fingers wrapping around my pulse. As he adjusted the scattered pages on his fold-up table, dissatisfied murmurs floated among the council members, but they soon began to find their footing again. I let their words drift through one ear and out the other, jotting down whatever I could grasp, my handwriting becoming progressively less legible.
I went to lay my arm on my table, getting comfortable again, but Viktor's grip only tightened around my wrist, pressing it firmly into the wood beneath us. “Don’t even think about starting to draw again,” he chided, sliding his fingers closer to the base of my wrist, feeling my pulse quicken beneath his touch. “Or, maybe, I should worry about potential cardiac arrest?”
“That is yo—” I cut myself off, noticing the smug expectation in his gaze. I wasn’t ready to unpack the tangled feelings our banter stirred up. “I’m not having a heart attack, now let go.” I attempted to snap at him, keeping my voice steady and hushed.
“No,” he said, testing the limits of my patience.
"You’re just trying to distract me, now" I shot back, reaching the end of my rope with his antics today. This side of him was new.
Viktor shrugged, “You need to learn how to focus. It’s an important skill.”
“I can focus,” I bluffed, unwilling to let him point it out. “I just… choose not to.” I felt his gaze linger on the side of my head for a long moment, watching my scribbles. His eyes eventually flitted to the chaotic lines that filled my pages, and I could see the way he tapped his pen against his notebook, his jaw tightening with a definitive look in his eyes.
I was taken aback when his grip relaxed around my hand; I had anticipated a stronger reaction. But it didn’t take long for him to make his move, his hand gliding up to brush his knuckles lightly against my knee. My gaze shifted to his hand as it deliberately nudged the loose fabric of my long skirt aside, revealing more of my bare leg through the split.
I tried to shift my thigh away, looking up at him, surprised by his boldness - his hand following after. A flush of warmth settled in my stomach, mixed emotions bubbling up my throat as I struggled to swallow them back down. I could feel the intensity of his gaze as I quickly looked back to my paper.
Viktor turned his hand over, tapping a gentle rhythm on the top of my thigh like he was playing piano. “If you just needed a little motivation,” he started, leaning close as if studying my notes. His taps slowly moved to drag up and down, callouses start to scrap the goose flesh building up as he made sure to linger along the remaining hem of my skirt's slit. His intentions were unmistakable. “Then all you need to do is pay attention and write your notes.”
I could only swallow hard, aware of the game we'd been playing over the past few months. The exchanged glances, light touches, the foot games, the playful teasing. It all began the day he took my pen, and since then, the tension had only grown, with neither of us trying to pull back, but rather escalate it.
He kept tapping my thigh, expectantly waiting for my response or a sign.
I glanced at Viktor again; his golden eyes sparkled with wanton glee, sending my heart racing as I thought of the possibilities and the ramifications of being caught. We rarely interacted outside this room, so I wondered what the harm could be... right?
I tightened my grip on my pen, my ears red as I tried to focus on the concluding topics of the meeting. I held it over the page for a brief moment, granting myself a fleeting pause before I began jotting down notes. The letters started off a bit shaky as I wrestled with the distraction of his fingers nonchalantly roaming across the expanse of my exposed thigh. He watched me patiently, allowing me time to get used to the feeling - exactly the length it took me to use the rest of my page before I had to turn to the next.
Viktor's little finger brushed against the fabric, the others following slowly as they curved around the inside of my thigh. He played delicate patterns into the supple flesh, his touch steadily gliding further and farther up. The anticipation swirled in my stomach, it increasingly difficult to breathe unless I told myself to. He closely watched the slight movement of my brows, jotting down short notes —my reactions holding his full attention.
He was moving at a painfully slow pace, each moment stretching out longer than the last. His carefulness was more distracting than anything else, and being careful not to attract attention to his hand. The thought of being caught sent a bolt of unexpected heat through me right to my core, causing me to bite my thumbnail with my free hand in a desperate attempt to regain my waning concentration. My cheeks were burning as he halted right before where I expected... wanted. My thighs wanted to twitch, to jerk in response. I had to breath, letting out a long breath, as I gradually shift them further apart without making any sudden moves. He smiled, yet remained utterly still, offering me nothing more than his presence.
I heard a faint chuckle from above, his eyes fixed on me as I began to squirm in place, waiting impatiently. I hadn’t realized I’d stopped writing until his fingers lifted away, leaving the spot cold and making me whimper without meaning to. I quickly stifled the sound, biting my lip enough to cause a mark as I shot a glare at Viktor from the corner of my eye.
“Try again,” he whispered, tucking his ‘T’ as his fingers gently tracing the skin just above my knee attempting to encourage me.
I inhaled through my nose, closing my eyes for a brief moment to regain myself - and stow irritation- before writing again. I anxiously waited for his hand to return, ignoring misspellings in favor of getting out as many words as possible in the hopes that it might hurry him along. Coincidence or cause, I still had to stop myself from rolling my hips into his hand when his fingers finally returned, going farther than before.
At first, his fingers only gently pressed against my covered cunt, experimenting with small gliding motions before gradually increasing pressure. My eyes fluttering a bit, teeth biting down hard at the dead skin of my lip. The split focus between his hand and the meeting was excruciating already; our cat and mouse games from the past meetings winding me up.
My thigh spasmed a bit as he pushed my underwear aside. I hiccupped out stagnate breath, sniffling a bit, to keep myself as silent when his rough fingers collected the wetness that had been dampening the cotton. Spread it around as I turned the page, feeling the edge of my thoughts become increasingly hazy — exposed by the ink of my words.
“You’re doing so well,” Viktor cooed softly, almost mockingly. I caught a sparkle in his eye that made my hips roll forward again, becoming desperate.
“Please,” I begged near silently into my hand, covering my mouth. Viktor seemed as though he wanted to request more, but ultimately settled for this meager display of mine given the circumstances we found ourselves in.
Obliging finally, he slowly pushed one of his fingers into me with a second following soon after the first knuckle. The sensation, the sudden bit of stretch, making my hips roll and lift slightly from the bench to meet him. I was warned to sit back down with a foot returning to stepped on my toes. Another silent whimper escaped from my throat as I obeyed, tilting my hips slightly to make up for the pressure I lost.
My mouth hung open, pen cutting into part of my page, as Viktor started to slowly push in and out. Curling his digits and dragging the pads against somewhere that made the muscles in my legs quiver. My struggling breath was hard to hide as all I wanted to pay attention to was the circles Viktor’s thumb drew around my swelling nub, joining the delibrate and leisurely strokes of his fingers. His motions were so methodical it made me wonder how long he had planning this.
The first day? Week later? Last month? I don’t fucking care.
My heart raced, skipping a few beats, while my eyes threatened to close once more. The tightness in my stomach intensified, and I could feel the warmth pooling and spreading through me. My sight starting to blur as my lids became heavy, feeling the fringe right before the fall. It made my knuckles white around my pen as my other nails dug into the edge of the bench seat. I struggled not to clamp my legs around his hand when curled fingers swiped back and forth.
I was so close; I only needed a little more.
“That seems to conclude everything submitted for this meeting,” Professor Heimerdinger cheerfully called out as he closed up his file. Glancing around, he spotted what seemed to be his assistant charming Hoskel's new ward. He raised a fluffy long eyebrow, observing their peculiar interaction as Viktor stood.
My eyes widened as my head shot forward, my palm pressing against my agape mouth. I let out a pitiable moan that came out more like a strangled cough at the sudden absence of Viktor's fingers. Offering me nothing but that infuriatingly smug smile of his while quickly standing to gather his belongings, leaving me feeling cold and vulnerable. I shot him a pointed glare, crossing my legs tightly as I began to pack up, actions expressing my dissatisfaction. I shuffled my papers into their leather binding and stuffed the remainder of my cheese bagel into my mouth to muffle my verbal lashing.
“Need a hand?” Viktor extended his offer, his eyebrow arched playfully as I squinted back at him. Hesitating as I picked up my now cold tea and rolled my tongue over the inside of my lip, before I took his hand and stood up with a gentle pull from him. Though I found myself being drawn closer than I anticipated as he held onto my hand. The air between us crackling with tension; he leaned down, observing the blush that crept from my cheeks to my ears and raced down my neck. His thumb brushing over my wrist as he turned it over, sending my pulse racing again as his eyes darted across my face, gauging my reaction. “Sense we skipped proper formalities—”
Hoskel’s snap of my name cut Viktor short; his approach forcing me to jerk my hand away from Viktor’s. The atmosphere soured further as Viktor took a step back, his demeanor slightly withdrawn now. With a soft huff, I attempted an awkward smile, clinging to the flutter in my stomach as I turned away. Biting my lip, I trailed after Hoskel, who immediately began reprimanding me for interrupting the meeting. Oddly enough, I found myself too flustered to care.
I stole one last look over my shoulder, catching Viktor gathering his things again as he waited for Heimerdinger. Upon noticing me, he waved and, before I could return the gesture, he raised his fingers to his lips with a mischievous wink. My breath caught in my throat again as I watched him glide his fingertips across his lower lip, his tongue peeking out just to taste— “
I jolted at the sound of my patron screeching my name again, following him as he hurriedly exited the council building, clearly not a man of academics.
~~<3~~
Viktor hummed, pleased, to himself as he packed the last of his things up. He hadn’t meant for things to develop today the way they did; he had jumped forward in their little game. Not that either of them minded, but it was going to make the next time they saw each other a little more interesting.
“Viktor, come here.” The elder’s voice brought him back to the present making he straightened. After grabbing his cane from where it sat, he stepped forward — struggling to separate his thoughts still tangled in the recent encounter. As he approached the table, Heimerdinger looked up, his wizened eyes observing the slight differences in his assistant's demeanor. He was no fool, he saw the young infatuation between the two young humans. “I wanted to discuss your latest project before the day leaves us. I’ve heard the most promising feedback.”
Viktor’s eyes widened, remember something mentioned this morning before the meeting, “Thank - thank you, Professor.” Viktor hurried toward the round council table, snapping open the buckles of his bag again to retrieve the information for this little presentation. “I’ve been refining the prototypes. I believe it I just upped the electrical imput I could, potentially, maybe—” Before he could continue his unpracticed rambling, Heimerdinger peered closer at him. The Yordl looked at Viktor with narrowed eyes, sensing a depth, something different, in him that hadn’t been there before today. Viktor just saw his boss waddle towards him with a (kind?) stare that could unsettle Noxian soldiers. “Professor?”
“You seem... distracted. Is everything alright?” The question hung in the air, the short creature watching the seven stages of grief flicker across Viktors face.
Viktor’s mind flickered back to Anika’s blush, the rush of their connection. He cleared his throat, shaking himself back to the task at hand. “Yes, quite alright, Professor. Just eager to make progress.”
With a nod, Heimerdinger gestured for him to elaborate, but Viktor felt the nerves in his stomach tighten. He needed to focus. Perhaps later, once the day’s work was, he might see where this new... path took him with the ward. But for now, he pushed aside his unprofessional thoughts, diving into the technical matters at hand, trying to channel these intense feelings into the brilliance of his inventions.
(idk how much I like the name but were going with it because that's what won the google coin toss! Plus if I can make it to the ending I have planned I got a nice piece of dialogue to go with it. Media literacy and symbolism and all that stuff.
MOSTLY I just wanted to right Vik smut!)

Just some thoughts
I wanted to share some of what's been on my mind. Some of you may have come across my ask before I am Calm theory anon. And I have always voiced my opinions on anon ask on others blogs. It was where I was the most comfortable. Well I decided today that I was going to put some of the calm and realistic thoughts out there on my own blog. See I am a Lukola shipper for those that don't know me. Now I am a recent shipper. I have never shipped anyone in my life. Never watched Bridgerton at all. Yet here I am devoting hours to them. One of my thoughts recently was I truly believe that Luke and Nic are in a relationship. I understand that people need more hard-core proof of a relationship between them before they believe. But what mind boggles me is that they believe that Nic is dating JD just because they held some hands and visited places together. And funny how we have the same situation with Luke and the girl (i won't ever name her) all we have seen was them going places and a weak hand hold. None of this is actual concrete proof that they are more than friends. I find it really funny that all of the photos beside Lukes new year eve kiss in January we don't actually have any recent proof of any of these couples kissing or having any type of PDA. How can that be when fans and paps have caught them out? Why haven't we seen any PDA? Another thing that's been on my mind is Nicola. I read that she was on a podcast during Covid and stated that she lived with her last boyfriend. How is it that she was able to fully live with a human and no one knew about him? Yes, she wasn't as worldly popular but she still had a following from Derry girls. How is it that she kept even now to this day the guy from being found out? She makes it clear who her friends are. We also know who her family is. Yet we didn't know who she was dating. Y'all she lived with him and we knew nothing. So if her natural habit is to keep her relationships private would she post her man all over the place? I know the other side argues that she's more widely known now and she can't keep her private life secret. Yet she still has kept who her last boyfriend was a secret. yet the masses would like us to believe that she's with JD. I'm sorry I just feel like that's too far away from what she's comfortable with which is keeping her relationship on the low. That's just taking just Nic past habits into account. That's too far away from her natural habits. We know that during the world tour we found out some key things. We know that Nic and Luke hang out outside of work. They said it in an interview. We also know that he gave her something that she cherishes. Because they said it in an interview. My point is that we wouldn't know any of that if they didn't say it an in interviews. So it blows my mind that people think that they have this couple all figured out and they're so dead set that they're with other people. You're basing your opinions on assumptions and calling them a fact. It would be different if they officially launched to the world I think a lot of people to respect Nick and Luke and whomever they wanted but we haven't gotten that. So it's really possible that those of us that people call delusional are correct. We don't know these people. We can only go based on what we know. I want to preface by saying that I will always say I think not I know Or act like what I think is a fact I'm not like those creators. Part of me understands why Luke and Nick are so secretive. I understand that they want to keep their private life private. And I can respect that but the reality is they're celebrities now. Every career comes with a sacrifice and that's their sacrifice. But are they really keeping it a secret? If you Look hard enough you see they leave hints they are together.

“What did I say before, hm? Finders keepers,” you declared, grabbing his other hand. “You’re not going to die as long as I have something to say about it.”
The screen of your phone lit up from where it sat on the dashboard of Jungwoo’s spaceship, and you immediately grabbed it. It was Donghyuck, and at this point, you would’ve taken your bestie ‘SPAM LIKELY’ to get you out of here.
“Hey, it’s Hyuck, you got it here?” You asked Jungwoo, already on your feet.
“Yes, I’ll be okay,” Jungwoo confirmed, eyes momentarily leaving the screen to meet yours.
You clambered out of the hatch with haste, taking off into the trees. Hastily sending Donghyuck a text that you’d call him back in a minute, you practically bolted back up the cliffside to get to the road before doing just that.
Hyuck picked up before it could even ring once, not wasting any time, “Hey, how’s our pet alien?”
“He has a name,” you retorted, still out of breath.
“He doesn’t seem to mind when I call him that.”
“He probably doesn’t understand how derogatory it could be. His language might not have a direct equivalent for the concept.”
“Yeah, whatever, how is he?”
“Fine. All of his wounds have healed.”
Your friend’s tone immediately shifted. “You sound weird. What’s going on?”
“Nothing!” You insisted.
“Y/N.”
“Promise not to tell anyone?”
“Sure.”
And so after explaining your situation to Donghyuck to the best of your ability, you waited with bated breath for his response.
“Oh my God, he’s going to lay his eggs in you,” he gasped.
“Hyuck! Gross!” You hissed, half-ready to hang up right then.
“I’ve seen enough alien movies to know where this is going.”
“Or watched too much weird porn.”
“You didn’t laugh at my joke, clearly you’re in crisis, sorry.” His apology sounded sincere.
You sighed, staring down into the trees below you that you knew contained a spaceship and spaceman that weren’t from here, that didn’t belong here. “I mean, he’s still fixing his ship to leave…”
“What if he plans on abducting you and taking you with him?”
“Stop it!” You scolded him again. “Jungwoo wouldn’t do that.”
“You seriously think he’ll just leave his mate behind?”
“You are way too comfortable saying that word.”
“This is not about my nighttime proclivities.”
“If I told him to, yeah, I think he would. He’s been super respectful, all things considered.”
“Okay… whatever…”
You were worried. Jungwoo had continued fixing his ship, but with each passing day, you swore he was looking worse again. He said his wounds had completely healed inside and out, but the pallor of his skin didn’t look right, he was moving slower again, and he didn’t eat as much at meals. You took a risk and took him there during the day today, not wanting to risk drawing out his stay on Earth any longer than necessary.
Just getting him down to the ship today was perilous, as he tripped going down the last of the hillside. A rock had cut his arm, thankfully not very deep, but the sight of the deep blue blood did nothing to calm your anxious mind. He let you take a second to use a first aid kit in the ship on him, but then was right back to business as usual, fixing his ship.
“How’s it coming along?” You asked, hovering over him worriedly as he sat on the floor, working on a panel under the control console.
“It’s almost done,” he informed you quietly.
“Jungwoo, you don’t look okay.”
“I’m fine.”
“Is it the hydrogen? Or something else that you can’t get on Earth?” You went to press the back of your hand to his forehead. It was sticky with sweat, but simultaneously cold and clammy. “Shit, dude, you feel awful.”
“I’m—I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I just need to get back to-to Galaria.”
“Okay, yeah,” you nodded. “Let’s get you back. You said it’s almost done. What else do you need?”
“One of your friends is a mechanic?”
“Yeah, Yuta. He fixes cars.” You were slightly alarmed that he apparently couldn’t remember which one.
Jungwoo held out a long, thin black tube to you. “Could you ask him if he has something like this? Twice as long?”
“Of course! I'll go right now!” You took the tube from him. “You stay right here. Rest, okay?”
He nodded, leaning against the panel and shutting his eyes.
You ran into Yuta’s auto shop, skidding to a stop and nearly crashing into a bench and toolbox, drawing the attention of everyone in the shop. Every head whipped over to look at you, and Yuta pushed himself out from under a truck on the far side of the shop.
“Yuta!” You dashed over to him, ignoring the attempts at conversation from his coworkers as you ran by them.
“Off-limits, assholes!” Yuta yelled back at them before focusing on you again, grabbing a rag to wipe his hands off. “Y/N, what are you doing here?”
“It’s Jungwoo, he needs something like this, but double the length.” You held the tube out to him. “Do you have anything like it? I’ll pay for it.”
Yuta inspected it with a furrowed brow, and you dropped your voice even lower as the sounds of the auto shop rose again.
“Please, he’s-he’s really not doing well. I don’t know how much longer he can be here, Yuta. Something about Earth, it’s not good for him. I’m really worried.”
“Yeah, I would be if I were you.” Yuta handed the tube back to you, then crossed his arms over his chest. “I gave him a part just like that two days ago. He said it was the last piece he needed.”
“What?!” Your heart fell to the pit of your stomach.
“I gave him a new brake hose two days ago. Unless he blew it up again, this isn’t it.”
“I’ve got to go.” You took off towards the door of the garage. “Bye, Yuta! Thanks!”
“See you around!”
Something wasn’t right. You could feel it in the pit of your stomach as you looked down at the brake hose in your hands. You could feel it in the deep rumble of the pavement under your feet as you ran down the shoulder of the highway back towards the ship. You could feel it in your lungs as you sucked in air that smelled oddly smoky. There was no caution in your movements as you took the familiar path down into the trees. Sirens followed behind you from all directions, converging on the same place as you. But you had gotten there before them.
The ship pulsated with an energy you had never seen before, no longer dull dark metal, but thrumming with power, colorful bursts of light jumping from panel to panel. The reactors at the back that you had watched Jungwoo rebuild with his own two hands roared to life.
No friends to grab you and hold you back now. It was only you.
You lunged for the button that you knew would extend the ladder, throwing the hose to the ground so you could have two free hands to scramble up the side of the ship. At the cockpit, you held onto the top rung of the ladder as the ship jerked and lifted off the ground. You desperately hit the other button to open the glass hatch, dropping into the cockpit and pulling the dome shut with you.
Jungwoo was crumpled in a heap on the ground in front of the controls, not even in a seat. Thankfully, he took a small, shallow breath. The ship accelerated, throwing the both of you across the cockpit. You swore as your head impacted with the wall, and Jungwoo grunted as he hit another panel.
“What the hell is your problem, Jungwoo?” You chastised him as you rolled him over. “You tell me you’ve imprinted on me, then send me off on a wild goose chase so that you can leave without saying goodbye? And then you fucking pass out?”
“Y/N?” He mumbled, slowly blinking a couple times as he looked up at you. “That’s… you?”
“Yes, you dumbass,” you scoffed, pulling his head onto your lap as you were truly just relieved to see his eyes open again. “Now come on, don’t fall asleep on me again.”
“Mm… yes… it’ll be nice… I think… to die in your arms.”
“Christ, you’re so dramatic,” you rolled your eyes to not give away how fast your heart was beating, how sweaty your palms were, or that your hands were shaking with nerves. “You’re not going to die. You hear me? It looks like you’ve already put in directions back home, right? To Galaria? Please tell me this thing has autopilot.”
“Yes. Provided… there are no… unexpected emergencies…” He took several uneven, short breaths. “The ship… will take care of it…”
“Awesome. How often are there unexpected emergencies in intergalactic travel?”
Jungwoo was out cold.
You hung your head, letting out a deep sigh. “Cool. Great. Nice one, Y/N. Stuck on a spaceship that you don’t know how to fly. In space. With a half-dead alien. Stellar life choices, as always.”
You had no clue how much time had passed since you’d left Earth. There were no clocks—at least not ones that you could read—in Jungwoo’s ship, and your spaceman stayed knocked out, never coming close to consciousness. You got hungry at some point, but you couldn’t find any food, or least anything that you would risk eating this early. Maybe if it really felt dire. You hadn’t stocked Jungwoo up with supplies yet, you thought you had more time. Was he really planning on leaving like that?
A pleasant dinging came over the speakers of the ship eventually, reminding you of the sound that played over plane intercoms when an announcement was made. A computerized voice said something, but you realized you couldn’t understand it. You couldn’t make out a single word or syllable. It must be speaking Galarii. Nothing was flashing red, hopefully it wasn’t anything that required your assistance.
It felt like the ship was slowing down. You held onto Jungwoo’s lifeless body tightly to brace the two of you. He was still warm, and you took a small comfort in that.
With another jerk and cacophonous rattle, the ship touched down. You were pretty sure. The hum of the reactors died down, and it felt like the ship had finally stopped. Jungwoo let out a weak sound of pain in your arms, and you were on your feet.
You slammed your hand against the button to open the hatch with none of the grace that you’d seen Jungwoo use dozens of times. Tugging the transcoder off his neck, you put it on yourself before wedging your shoulder under his, planting your foot on a seat cushion, and heaving upwards with as much force as you could. Either the gravity on Galaria was different, you were having an adrenaline rush, or both, as Jungwoo’s body actually moved with you. You jerked both of you up onto the ladder, yelling in between deep breaths.
“Help!” Shove. “Help us!” Heave. “Help! Somebody!” Push. “Help!”
After the next jump, your head poked out of the cockpit. Immediately, you were met with winds that whipped your hair around and chilled you to the bone. You took as deep of a breath that you could, the frosty air feeling like knives in your lungs, to let out another cry, “Help!”
The lilac sky was barely visible through the snow that flurried around your face, sticking to your skin and hair. Two figures appeared through the snowstorm, approaching the spaceship, and you readjusted your hold on Jungwoo to lean his weight back on you to free up one arm to wave at them fervently.
“Over here!” You screamed. “Help us! Please!”
Jungwoo coughed, blue blood dribbling out of his mouth.
“Oh god…” You cupped his cerulean-stained cheek, panic flooding your heart as you saw the two figures stop in their tracks.
Heaving the two of you over the side in the quickest way you knew to get down, you slid down the ship, the fresh snow that had piled up breaking your fall about as well as Donghyuck had before. The impact rattled up your feet and knees, and you swore under your breath as you definitely heard something pop that had never popped before. Wrapping Jungwoo’s arm around your shoulders, you started dragging him towards the two figures.
“Hey!” You yelled out at them, glaring against the snow and wind. Tears streamed down your face as the wind battered your eyes, and your teeth were already chattering. “What the hell are you doing? He’s fucking dying! Help him!”
This finally spurred them into moving again, the figures rushing towards you once more. As they got closer, you could see that they were human-like—Galarii, presumably. They were bundled up for the weather, goggles and cloth masks obscuring much of their faces from you, but as they reached to take Jungwoo from you, a sudden fear seized you, and you jerked back from them at the last second, tightening your hold on him.
They must have been able to guess what spooked you, as one lifted up his goggles and pulled down his mask to let you see his face as he addressed you.
“I’m Kun. That’s my aide, Dejun,” he indicated to himself, then to the other Galarii. “I’m Jungwoo’s brother. Please.”
You looked between them for a moment, then nodded. They moved to each take one of his arms and loop it around their shoulders. You stayed close as they trudged through the snowstorm with him, your worried eyes staying on Jungwoo. Your feet were entirely numb, and you didn’t register when one of the caught on something under the snow until you were already catapulting forward face-first. Your hands were tucked under your arms, and you couldn’t get them out fast enough to break your fall. Kun thankfully had faster reflexes than you, and managed to catch you by the arm, leaving you suspended above the snowbank for a perilous moment. He jerked you back until you got your feet under you again, and you mumbled out a thank you that was muted by the winds. Looking over your shoulder, your knees nearly gave out again when you saw the trail of blue drops that Jungwoo was leaving behind.
Kun once again grabbed your arm, and you looked at him inquisitively, coming to a stop as they did. You were in front of a cliffside by the ocean, which was in fact a cotton candy pink, no buildings in sight. The sea spray stung your eyes, made them water up, and you did your best to cover them without entirely obscuring your vision.
Dejun approached the rock wall as Kun took on all of Jungwoo’s weight. You heard a faint groan, and you weren’t sure which of them it came from, but you moved to take over where Dejun had just been. Jungwoo was no longer warm.
Dejun touched his own pendant to part of the stone, and you swore you saw something glow, but that could’ve been the refraction of light off the waves into your pupils, you couldn’t be sure. An opening formed in the cliffside, and Dejun ushered the three of you in. As soon as you stepped in, it didn’t feel like you were underground, or inside a cliff. It just seemed like you were indoors. Sure, it was dim, but pleasantly so, like it was evening. It was also warm, which you were glad for. You readjusted your hold on Jungwoo, pressing your hand against his chest for some stability, the right side of his chest, desperately hoping that maybe you could feel his heartbeat finally. You couldn’t.
Dejun didn’t request to take Jungwoo back from you though his hands hovered around you uncertainly, as if he were about to. You weren’t sure if you would’ve let him this time. Instead, he simply led the way through the sprawling home you had found yourself in. You didn’t pay attention much to your surroundings, only enough to make sure you weren’t going to trip while you carried Jungwoo. Finally, you made it to a bedroom of some kind, and Kun motioned for you to put him down on the bed there.
Kun took off some of his outer layers, letting you see his face again for the first time since he found the two of you at the ship. Dejun reentered the room—you didn’t realize he had left—also no longer in his thick parka and carrying what must be a first aid kit, handing it off to Kun.
“What’s your name?” Kun asked, his eyes focused on the materials in his hands.
At first, you couldn’t talk, your throat too dry from the cold air outside. You desperately swallowed and coughed, then hoarsely said, “Y/N.”
Dejun poured you a glass of something from a jug in the corner, and you looked it over. It looked like water to you, and you remembered that Jungwoo didn’t seem put off by what water looked like on Earth. You took a tentative sip. Tasted like nothing. It soothed your raw throat a little bit, and you drank some more.
“My name’s Y/N,” you reiterated, then faltered as you looked at Jungwoo. “I’m… Jungwoo’s friend. He crashed on Earth, we were helping him get back. But then he started getting like this. You can help him, right?”
Kun gently tilted his brother’s head back and forth, the prevalent frown on his features only deepening. “Dejun, some help?”
The aide came over, and the two of them lifted Jungwoo’s shirt up over his head. You gasped when you saw some bruising on his back and side, presumably from when he hit the wall when you took off from Earth. But the two Galarii didn’t focus on that. Their attention was on his shoulders instead, having a hushed conversation between themselves.
“Is his shoulder okay?” You asked. “Is it broken or something?”
“His joint is fine,” Dejun reassured you.
“Oh, good.”
“Y/N,” he said your name quietly, eyes focused on your leg. “You’re bleeding. I think.”
You looked down at your still-numb extremities, registering for the first time that you had apparently been cut by something outside. Bright red dripped down the side of your left leg, and you held back the instinct to touch it in disbelief.
“Oh. Sorry.” You apologized, as you noticed a spot on the floor. “Uhm, do you have a band-aid?”
“Follow me, we’ll get it cleaned up and give you some new clothes.”
You looked at Jungwoo anxiously, where Kun was still tending to him. “I’m fine.”
“He’ll still be here, Y/N,” Kun promised. “I’m sure my brother would want us to take care of his friend too.”
Reluctantly, you went with Dejun into an adjoining room. After getting your cut washed out and a bandage applied, he fetched you some warmer clothes.
“Thanks, Dejun.” You wrapped your arms around yourself. “Can I go back?”
“Sure. I’ll bring you some food.”
Stepping back into the room, you saw Kun cleaning up Jungwoo’s face and chest where his blood had begun drying.
“Can I help?” You offered tentatively.
Kun waved you over. “His head keeps lolling around. Can you keep him still?”
“Of course.” You sat on the corner of the bed, gently rearranging Jungwoo to cradle the back of his head with both your hands in your lap. Brushing some of his hair from his face, you took comfort in watching the shallow but steady rise and fall of his chest. “Is that better?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
“His iridophores don’t look right.” You stated, able to see the reflective patches on his cheeks and shoulders from this angle. “That’s what you’re worried about, right?”
Kun nodded. “Yes.”
“They’re… dull.” You kept your hands where they were. The realization did nothing to soothe you. “What does that mean?”
“I can’t say.”
“What can it mean?” You asked insistently, eye boring holes into the top of Kun’s head as he was bent over focusing rather intently on one spot. “On Earth, one symptom can mean a lot of things. What can dull iridophores be a symptom of?”
“We won’t know anything until he wakes up,” Kun reiterated, soaking and wringing out the washcloth one final time. His eyes met yours, his own iridophores glinting in the lights. “Please, I don’t want to speculate before then.”
“Fine. Okay,” you relented for now.
The Galarii’s gaze fell to the pendant around your neck. “That’s Jungwoo’s transcoder.”
You looked down at it as well. “Yeah. I figured I needed it more than him right now. You know, considering…”
“Has he explained to you how it works?”
“Telepathy. Which he told me is apparently very scientific to you all, and definitely not witchcraft,” you snorted.
Dejun entered, a plate of food in his hand. Kun nodded towards it for you. “Eat.”
You sighed, pressing your hand to Jungwoo’s cheek once more. He wasn’t ice cold anymore, but still felt clammy to the touch. Maneuvering his head back to the pillow, you moved over to the table where Dejun had set the food for you. It all seemed food-like, and if your attention wasn’t so focused on your spaceman, you were sure you would be much more enthralled by eating alien food right now. But you could barely even taste it as you wolfed down a few bites, then a few more when Kun was still carefully watching you. When he seemed satisfied that you were fed, you pushed the plate away.
“Full,” you mumbled. “Thank you.”
Dejun and Kun exchanged a look, but didn’t say anything.
“Do you know when he’ll wake up?” You asked. “Don’t you guys have like, doctors or something? Healers? I don’t know, any sort of healthcare?”
“His iridophores… doctors can’t help with that,” Kun explained, obviously choosing his words very carefully. “We have to see if Jungwoo will pull through on his own.”
“That’s it?!” You spat back, wide-eyed. Maybe your tone was a bit harsh, but you couldn’t believe that they apparently didn’t even need a real doctor to examine him to give a diagnosis like that.
“Y/N—”
“But he’s—He was fine just a few days ago…” You stared at him in disbelief. “We got ice cream…”
“I’ll have Dejun make a room up for you, Y/N,” Kun said, gently patting your shoulder as they moved towards the exit.
“Kun.” You grabbed his arm before he got too far. He turned around to look at you inquisitively. “I’m sorry. He’s your brother, this must be painful for you too. Really, I’m so sorry.”
He offered a melancholy smile, nodding. “Thank you.”
You couldn’t sleep that night, kept up thinking about Jungwoo. Finally, after too much restless tossing and turning, you got out of bed. Wandering down the halls of whatever cave house you were in, you turned your phone on. Of course you didn’t have service inside a cliff in another galaxy. Coming to a stop in some sort of open living space, you sat down onto something that you were going to call a loveseat, which overlooked a small pool of water that seemed to glow on its own. You stared at your zero bars, thought about Jungwoo dying, being on a planet in a galaxy far away from your friends and family, and for possibly the first time in your entire life, felt so lonely you could cry.
Pulling your knees to your chest, you buried your face in them, feeling so small and wanting nothing more than someone bigger than you to come in and make everything okay again. You dialed Johnny’s contact on your phone, just to hear the dial tone as the call didn’t connect, then dropped and hung up on its own.
You got the feeling that somebody else was there, and turned around towards the entrance. It was Kun, and he ducked his head sheepishly.
“You couldn’t sleep either?” He surmised.
“No.” You scooted to one end of the seat, offering up the empty space for him to join you.
“I can alter your device, to communicate with Earth,” he offered, gesturing to your phone, the screen of which was still lit up in your hand.
“You think so?” You asked hopefully.
“Yes. It will keep my mind busy, too.”
You placed it in his waiting palm. “Thank you!”
He looked at the glowing pond in front of the two of you. “Do you have places like this on Earth?”
“Kind of?” You said. “I think? Maybe? Is it some kind of uh, bioluminescence? Some bacteria or something that glow?”
Kun smiled. “Yes, exactly.”
“Cool. Funny, we have pink oceans too. Like, our whole ocean isn’t pink, but there’s small lakes and stuff that are pink like yours.”
“What color are your oceans, then?” He tilted his head curiously.
“Blue, like our sky,” you informed him with a grin. “Or, sometimes a greenish blue.”
“A blue sky…” He muttered, clearly trying to picture that. “I’m sure that fascinated Jungwoo.”
“Hey.” You looked at him inquisitively. “Is it really true that you don’t know who’s older?”
Kun chuckled. “It’s different on Earth, then?”
“Very.”
“Yes, Galarii children aren’t raised being called the older or younger child. Most families have their children very close together, so unless you remember your sibling being born, you typically won’t know which of you is older.”
“And school isn’t organized by age either.”
“No.”
“Huh.”
“Do you have a sibling?”
“An older brother, kind of,” you said fondly. “That’s who I was trying to call.”
Kun furrowed his brow. “He’s ‘kind of’ older, or ‘kind of’ your brother?”
“‘Kind of’ my brother.” You laughed. “Definitely older. We know that on Earth. And even if we didn’t, he remembers me being born, so…”
“Ah, you’ve known him for a while?”
“Friends for my whole life, yeah. He always knows what to do. Which is usually pretty annoying, but this time, I really need that.”
The Galarii with you nodded in understanding. “I don’t know everything, but I will do my best to let you speak with him.”
Kun rose to his feet.
“Kun.” You stopped him from leaving. “When humans are in comas, people say that they can still hear you. Is Jungwoo like that right now?”
“I think it will benefit him for you to spend time with him,” he agreed. “I’ll bring you your communicator once it’s ready. You should try to sleep tonight, Y/N.”
You offered him a smile. “Thank you, Kun. For everything.”
“Thank you for bringing him home.”
When you woke up, you couldn’t be sure if it was morning, but it was definitely brighter in the hallway outside your room. You were sure they had the lights set to mimic whatever the rhythm of Galarian days were like.
Jungwoo looked the same as when you left him yesterday, which was both comforting and disconcerting. He hadn’t gotten any worse overnight, but he wasn’t getting better. You pulled up a chair next to the bed, wringing your hands over your lap.
Feeling a little silly as you looked around the otherwise empty room, you said quietly, “Uh, hey, Jungwoo…”
He didn’t stir, and you poked your tongue against the inside of your cheek as you contemplated continuing. Eventually, you did. “I don’t… know what to say. My grandpa died when I was seven and when my mom took me to his headstone after, I never knew what I was supposed to say to it. Not that you’re dead, obviously… I-I was kind of relieved when I got older and my mom stopped taking me with her to visit him. I think that’s bad. But it felt like I always had to pretend to be as sad as her, which didn’t feel right to her.”
You readjusted how the covers settled on Jungwoo. “I wish you were awake, so I could ask you what sort of funeral traditions you have on Galaria, or if your grandparents are alive, or about your mom. I guess I could ask Kun that kind of stuff, but it wouldn’t be the same. I-I want to know about you.”
Time passed like that, you having a one-sided conversation with Jungwoo. Dejun sometimes stopped in to bring you meals and check on Jungwoo. After your second meal of the day, Kun entered the room, holding your phone out towards you. It looked the exact same as before, and you went to pocket it.
“It’s fine, Kun, don’t worry about—”
“Try it,” he urged you.
“Wait, you fixed it?” You took it back out, looking down at the screen. It looked normal, except you realized that that now it indicated that you had full bars. Honestly, you were expecting some kind of alien technology to be appended to it, and for the endeavor to take much longer. “That was fast.”
You once again tried to call Johnny, entirely unsure and uncaring of what time it was on Earth. This time, it rang.
“Y/N?!” His voice was a mixture of disbelief and fear when he picked up. You gave Kun a thumbs-up and darted from the room to properly take the call.
“Hey, Johnny…” You were already braced for the scolding of a lifetime, certain that he was well aware of where you were. Somehow, he always knew. Who knew how long you have been gone from home at this point.
“Y/N…” He took a deep breath. “Just come home safe.”
“I will, I will!” You promised hurriedly.
“I sprinkled into conversation with your parents your destination bachelorette trip already. So when you get back, you’ve got to figure out which one of your friends is getting married.”
Not if, when.
“Thank you, thank you.”
“Put Jungwoo on, I need to talk to him,” he demanded sternly.
Your throat nearly closed up as you thought of the scene you had just left, Jungwoo still passed out, his iridophores fading, untreatable even by Galarii doctors. “I can’t, he’s-he’s really bad. I don’t know what—I don’t know.”
“Hey, Y/N, it’s okay. Deep breaths with me now, alright, kid?” Johnny’s tone immediately softened, and he led you through a few deep breaths over the call. Once he seemed satisfied that you were a little calmer, he continued with the same soothing voice, “He’ll be alright. He’s back where he belongs, where people who know how to treat him can treat him. He’ll be fine.”
Tears spilled over your cheeks as you shook your head desperately. “They can’t, John. They can’t treat him. He’s—He’ll either get better or he won’t.”
“What?!” He asked incredulously. “He’s not a lame horse that needs to be put down. Who told you that? Put them on the phone.”
“I—” You sniffed and wiped your eyes. “Why do you care so much?”
Johnny sighed again, lowering his voice. “Look. You are stranded God fucking knows where. And as far as I’m concerned, Jungwoo is the only alien there that is going to want to get you home. So he can’t fucking die.”
You shuffled back into the room, thankfully spotting Kun still in there. “Do you have a transcoder?”
“Yes, is there something wrong with yours? I can understand you just fine.”
“No, uhm, Johnny wants to talk to you.” You indicated to your phone.
Kun raised his eyebrows, gesturing to himself. “Your brother wishes to speak with me?”
“Yeah. He’s a… doctor,” you half-fibbed. “He helped take care of Jungwoo when he crashed before. He wants to know how he’s doing. Will it work over the phone? The transcoder?”
Kun gestured for you to wait, then left the room for a moment, returning with a necklace similar to yours around his neck. The pendant was of a similar construction, but a slightly different shape and angles.
You quickly informed Johnny, “Okay, uhm, this is Kun, Jungwoo’s brother.”
The Galarii accepted the phone, and you helped him hold it correctly before he stepped out to take the call like you had. You kept your ears peeled for the worst, hoping Johnny stayed on his best behavior.
“Jungwoo, I hate this,” you kept talking to your spaceman in the meantime. “I hate not being able to do anything for you. I hate just having to wait, feeling useless.”
After some time, you heard footsteps outside the room, and quieted down before Kun reentered, holding your phone out to you.
“So… what did you guys talk about?” You asked hopefully.
“There may be one more thing we can try for Jungwoo,” Kun said, and you immediately got to your feet.
“Well let’s do it!”
He held out a hand to calm you. “It’ll have to wait until nighttime, I’m afraid.”
“What? What is—?”
“In the meantime, Johnny did mention that human bodies don’t naturally make the same painkillers that Galarii do. I apologize for not being aware of that.” Kun bowed his head apologetically. “Are you in any pain?”
“It’s fine.”
“He said you would do that as well, and to ask again. Are you certain you are not in pain? You cut your leg yesterday.”
You sighed, refraining from rolling your eyes at the man who really was just trying to be kind. “Fine. My head hurts a little, and my leg. And sort of everything.”
“Come with me, I can prepare you an injection. Johnny explained proper dosage and administration for humans.”
Reluctantly, you left and followed Kun to another room in the house. It appeared to be another bedroom, and he gestured for you to take a seat at a small desk. Papers were in neat stacks, and you looked around with both interest and eagerness to get this over with so you could get back to Jungwoo.
“Is this your room?” You asked as Kun pulled up a chair and opened a first aid kit of some kind.
“Yes.”
“Is that Jungwoo’s room that you have him in?” You watched him roll up your sleeve to wipe down your arm first. “Does he live with you?”
“When he’s on Galaria, yes.” Kun then brought out a small, clear bottle and syringe that looked remarkably like the ones back on Earth. “His ship is more-so his home.”
“His actual ship, right? The one he took this time was yours.”
The Galarii filled the syringe with a very small amount of medicine. “Yes. He doesn’t spend enough time here to necessitate having his own place.”
“So did you finish your paperwork?”
He nodded to the stacks on the desk next to you. “Does it look like I did?”
You laughed, and he reached for your upper arm. “Just let me know when you’re going to do it. My friend Yuta wanted to be a piercer in high school before he was a mechanic, so I have a lot of practice being stuck.”
“I already did it,” Kun informed you, holding a small piece of gauze to the site.
You looked down in disbelief. “Seriously?” And sure enough, there was an empty syringe on the table too. “Damn, I didn’t feel a thing. You’re good.”
Kun took the gauze off the injection site, a small drop of red blood on it. “You know, has anybody ever said that is a very alarming color?”
“I think that’s the point,” you chuckled. “To get your attention.”
“I see…”
“So what’s the other thing to help Jungwoo?”
“I have some work to get done before it.” He gestured to the papers again with a remorseful look. “How about you sit with him for now? I’ll let you know once we can get started.”
You bit your tongue to not take your frustration at the situation out on your host. “Alright. Thanks, Kun.”
Back in Jungwoo’s room, you froze when you were greeted by two big brown eyes blinking at you from the bed. Jungwoo seemed equally in shock as he rubbed his eyes, squinting at you uncertainly.
“Hey, you’re awake,” you breathed out in relief, feet finally coming unstuck so you could dart over to his bedside.
“Y/N?” He groaned and tried to push himself up into a sitting position.
“Easy, easy,” you murmured, urging him back down.
“That’s… really you?”
You offered him a smile, hoping he couldn’t tell how nervous you were. “Yeah. Crazy déjà vu, huh?”
Jungwoo looked down at his own hands. “I’m alive?”
“Yeah, you are. It was uhm… kind of scary for a while there,” you admitted quietly, taking his hand. Putting some pep into your tone, you added, “But I told you, remember? I said you weren’t going to die.”
“I thought I was hallucinating and dying,” he deadpanned.
“When? On the ship? You could’ve been, I don’t know. What did you see?”
“You. I thought I was hallucinating when I saw you.”
“Oh. No, I’m real.”
His mouth was set into a hard line as he asked, “Why are you here?”
“Because your ship’s autopilot worked and didn’t crash us into the ocean,” you teased.
But he didn’t even smile. “What…? Why would you do that?”
The smile dropped from your face as you turned confused. “Because I didn’t want you to die? Why are you… pissed at me? Is that it? You’re pissed?”
All the happiness that was bubbling in your chest had been soured with the unexpectedly hostile reaction you’d received from Jungwoo.
“You’ve never been in space— I—” He took a deep breath, once again trying to push himself up and succeeding this time as you didn’t stop him. You dropped his hand, crossing your arms over your chest as you watched him carefully, still concerned with how weak he’d be after not eating or drinking for so long. “What if the ship had crashed? Exploded? What if it flew at speeds unsafe for humans? What if my ship didn’t protect you against radiation deadly to humans because it was built for Galarii? What if Galarii had much longer lifespans than humans and something that was a short trip for me was longer than your entire life? What if we made it here and you couldn’t breathe our air? What if—”
“None of that happened,” you insisted.
“There were any billions of things that could have gone wrong, that you didn’t know and you—”
“They didn’t,” you reiterated emphatically.
“What if they did? Because of a choice you made for me?”
You rolled your eyes and stood up, putting some distance between the two of you as you felt anger start simmering under your skin. “It wasn’t really a choice. It was… I don’t know, I just did it. But it was fine, so just stop, alright?”
“Why did you come with me?” Jungwoo asked knowingly.
“Why did you try to leave me like that?” You shot back.
He suddenly couldn’t look you in the eye. “I was dying, I had to get back home.”
“I know, I was trying to help you get back home,” you scoffed. “I mean, why did you trick me into going to ask Yuta for a part that you already had, so that you could leave me without saying goodbye? I was ready to let you go, Jungwoo—”
“Because hearing you say that would’ve actually killed me!” His chest heaved after his outburst, his eyes were a watery red as he continued, “And you… that would’ve hurt you. And I couldn’t stick around just to selfishly enjoy another moment of your time if it meant doing that to you. I figured the confusion wouldn’t have been as bad as watching me die.”
The two of you stared at each other for several tense, choking seconds as his words hung in the air. You clenched your jaw, chewing on your next words, ruminating on them, before you swallowed them back down, sharp and bitter.
“I need to take a walk, because if I stay in here, I’m going to say something nasty that I don’t mean,” you spat out instead.
Kun found you by the bioluminescent pond again, a normal-looking water feature by day. You were crouched by the water’s edge, listlessly watching the water lap at the cold stone floor you were sitting on.
“Jungwoo’s awake,” Kun said, standing just behind and to your right side.
“Yeah.” You swallowed. “You heard us fighting, I’m guessing.”
“I didn’t hear what was said, only his voice. The only way I could get him to stay in bed was by promising that I would check on you.”
“Jungwoo’s been out for a while, he should get something to eat, and drink—”
“Dejun is getting him food and water now.”
“Good,” you croaked, wiping at a tear that had collected at the corner of your eye. “God damn it…”
Kun sat down beside you. “You’re more than his friend, aren’t you?”
“Oh, I guess. I don’t know.” You picked at your fingernails to avoid looking at him. “He… you know…”
“Imprinted? On you?” The Galarii’s voice betrayed his awe.
“Yeah. I know it’s a big deal, like the big deal for you guys… but I don’t do that, so…”
“It’s been awkward.”
“That’s one word for it.”
“Do you have a… partner on your planet?” He asked sympathetically.
“Oh, no, it’s not that bad, thankfully,” you sniffled and laughed. “It’s not that I don’t like Jungwoo, or that I can’t see myself, you know… falling in love with him or whatever. It just feels like I’m at Point A and he’s already at Point X waiting for me to catch up. Like there’s this huge gap.”
“He’s not in love with you, if that helps,” Kun informed you.
You stared at him blankly. “Huh?”
“Ah, exactly what I thought. Jungwoo didn’t explain imprinting very well.” Kun nodded to himself. “It’s not… instant infatuation, or love, or anything like that. You’re aware, in the back of your mind, that theoretically anybody in the universe could be the person you spend the rest of your life with, right? There may be near infinite numbers of people that you could be attracted to? Hypothetically?”
“I haven’t really thought of it like that, but I guess, yeah.” Without Donghyuck here unhelpfully joking about eggs, you found the conversation much easier to process. Or maybe you were just becoming desensitized to the idea, you couldn’t tell.
“Jungwoo doesn’t feel that endlessness anymore. His infinity is just you now. He’s not in love with you, because he doesn’t know you very well, but he knows that the only person he could ever fall in love with for the rest of his life is you.”
“So I’m at Point A and he’s at like, Point G, not Point X.”
“If your analogy is translating correctly, yes.”
You chewed on your bottom lip, mind turning over one part of his explanation. “‘Could.’ You used the word could, unless the transcoder is being liberal with nuance here.”
“Well, yes. I don’t think this is getting muddied in translation. It’s not definite that he’s going to fall in love with you.” He tilted his head. “I think that’s what is making you anxious, right? Feeling as though you have no choice, something has already plotted your life for you?”
You nodded. “Yeah… I think it brings some people peace, doesn’t it? On my planet, a lot of people have a god of some kind that they think has a divine plan for them and their life. That… freaks me the fuck out.” You let out a breathy, nervous chuckle, wringing your hands. “I’ve never liked feeling trapped.”
“You could leave the planet. If Jungwoo knew it was your choice to leave him, I don’t think he would follow you. He would let you go,” Kun offered. “We have more ships. I would go with you, personally guarantee your safety.”
“Do Galarii have religion?” You avoided answering his question, the intensity of his gaze, looking up at whatever was creating false light in the cavern, unable to pinpoint its exact origin past the hazy glow above you. “Jungwoo never mentioned any sort of religious figure, or prayed or anything when he was injured… That’s kind of when humans would’ve. Prayed for their God to give them strength.”
He took your conversation shift in stride, “We have enduring superstitions, traditions, but no sort of organized religion, no.”
“So this imprinting, it’s not any sort of divine plan, or divine will? To you all? It just… is?”
“One of the superstitions we do have is that of the finder’s intuition.”
“What’s that?”
“If you’ve found something, whether you realize it or not, you found it for a reason.”
“Jungwoo said something kind of like that about imprinting,” you recalled. “He said that humans choose their partners, but Galarii find them.”
“Yes. So for him to have been in that ship in the first place, which was not his, so far from home, and crashed due to circumstances outside of his control, on your planet, only to meet you, and it just happens that he imprints on you…”
“I found him.” You let out a choked laugh, covering your face at the insanity of it all. Of course Jungwoo had no reason to doubt why he had imprinted on you. You practically told him it was meant to be without even realizing it.
“I’m sorry?” Kun obviously had no context as for why you were laughing.
“I found his ship after he crashed and pulled him out of it. I found him,” you were still laughing as you explained, wiping at a stray tear that eked out. You didn’t know if it was from humor or misery at this point. “I literally told him ‘finders keepers’ talking about why he was staying at my apartment.”
His eyebrows shot up. “Oh…”
“Why was Jungwoo… so bad? When I brought him back?” You still needed some kind of answer. “You made it sound like you weren’t going to be able to help him at all.”
“Do you want to leave?”
“No.” You answered immediately. It was the same thing that made you get into his ship when it was taking off. Not imprinting, and not love… yet.
“I thought he was dying of a failed imprint,” Kun answered without hesitation.
“He can die from that?! And you were going to just let me leave?! Not just that, personally escort me out of the galaxy?! He’s your brother!” You shot to your feet, once again in utter disbelief at the conversation you were having.
“I never believed that you wanted to leave,” Kun replied simply. “I understand this is not entirely fair to you. But I do believe that you should understand the gravity of your situation. Again, he seems to be fine now.”
You ran a hand through your hair. “I mean—What the hell?! If we were to even like, be together in the future, if we had a fight he could die?! That’s fucking crazy!”
“No,” he reassured you. “The initial phases of an imprint are the rockiest. If it doesn’t take, a Galarii can die.”
“What causes it to… not… take?”
“Emotional turmoil, physical distance from the person they imprinted on, stress, any number of things.”
“But he’s fine now? You said he’s fine now?” You double-checked.
“Yes.”
“So it… took?”
“I believe so.”
“Okay, good.” You let out a sigh of relief.
Kun looked conflicted as he added, “I have a confession.”
You blinked at him. “…What now?”
“The injection I gave you, it wasn’t just for you,” he admitted. “I of course didn’t want you to be in pain, but for Galarii that have imprinted on non-Galarii, it’s been known for their physiology to sometimes mimic their non-Galarii partners. Johnny described to me how Jungwoo healed while on Earth and reacted differently to substances than he would have on Galaria. More human-like, from my understanding. And when he returned with a human…”
“That made you suspect that he had imprinted on me,” you finished. “But you injected me, not Jungwoo—And Jungwoo hates needles, and always knows where I am, so you thought he would’ve sensed me being in danger in his coma and woken up to protect me? Is that even how this thing works?”
“It’s not exact, what Jungwoo can sense… I doubt if I even injected you now, that he would know. Just, the feeling that something wasn’t right. An instinctual need to check on you.” Kun rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, his ears flushing red. “I wasn’t sure if he had told you, and if I was wrong about the imprint, that would’ve been—”
“A horrible situation for all of us to be in, yeah, I understand.” You stared out at the water, thinking about how the one that you were in didn’t seem much better in that moment.
“You two have both been through a lot. I’m sure you’ll come to understand each other.” The Galarii stood up. “I’m going to check on my brother. Take your time, Y/N.”
“Y/N?” Dejun found you by the water again later in the day. He was carrying a tray of food, meaning that it must be dinnertime already. You hadn’t budged from your spot after your conversation with Kun earlier, thinking way too much about everything.
“Dejun, hey.” You held your chin up with the palm of your hand, still staring out at the water. “Nobody’s looking for me, are they?”
You didn’t specify who would be looking for you.
The aide approached, handing you a plate of food. “Jungwoo asked if you’re alright.”
“I wanted to give him and Kun time alone,” you fibbed. “You know, they’re brothers, it’s been a while since they’ve seen each other.”
“Kun had state matters to attend to, he took his dinner to his room.”
“Of course, right.” You nodded. “Dejun, can I ask you something? And feel free to tell me if it’s way too personal by Galarii standards.”
He arched an eyebrow curiously, but acquiesced nevertheless. “Sure.”
“Are you… Have you… imprinted on someone?”
He smiled just the tiniest bit, and shook his head. “No, not yet.”
“Okay, thanks.”
With that, Dejun nodded his head politely and took leave of the room. You could only eat a couple bites of the food before you let out a deep sigh and stood up. You found your way back to Jungwoo’s room easily, knocking at the open doorway hesitantly. He was sitting at the table eating, and you were happy to see that he was well enough to get out of bed.
Jungwoo looked over from his food, sitting up straighter when he saw that it was you. “Y/N.”
“Hey.” You gestured to the table with your full plate of food. “Mind if I join you?”
“Of course not.” He motioned to the chair across from him hurriedly.
You sat down, studying him under the lights as he went back to eating. “You look a lot better. Your iridophores… You look better.”
“Thanks.” He wiped his mouth. “I’m sorry for getting so upset earlier. I could’ve expressed my concerns in a more… productive way.”
“You just woke up from a coma, it’s understandable you weren’t all there,” you replied graciously. “Thank you.”
“Thank you for making sure I got back safe,” he said strongly, putting a hand on your forearm. “Kun told me what he knows, and I believe I’d be dead without you. Their sensors recognized that something that wasn’t Galarii had landed on the planet without permission, so they went out to investigate and found us. We landed in a snowstorm, and I was unconscious. If you weren’t with me, not only would they not have found us at all, but I would’ve frozen to death out there.”
“I was why you were dying in the first place, though,” you pointed out. He seemed to be at a loss for words, and you added, “You should have told me, Jungwoo. Back on Earth, you should’ve told me what was going on.”
“You’re right. You kept talking about wanting me to leave with good memories of Earth, I wanted to do the same, leave you with only good memories of me.”
“If you had really left me like that, I would’ve been worried sick for the rest of my life not knowing what happened to you,” you told him harshly. “And now that I know that you apparently were doing that knowing that you were just going to die… I don’t get it. I don’t get you, and I’m really trying to.”
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. You’re not so… careless. I don’t know how I could have ever thought that.”
You took another bite of food, listening to the sounds of both your breaths in the quiet air. “Could you hear me? When you were out? I-I was talking to you, I couldn’t do anything else, and it’s supposed to help humans who are in comas, so…”
“Nothing in particular, at least not that I can remember now.” Jungwoo shook his head, but there was still a pleased smile on his face. “But I don’t doubt that having you nearby helped.”
“So you also don’t know why you woke up?” You asked tepidly. “It wasn’t a… choice somehow?”
“I remember being on the ship on Earth with you, and then I woke up here. Everything in between… I don’t recall.”
“That’s okay.” You both had finished your meals, and you stood up from the table. “I should let you rest some more.”
Jungwoo surprisingly agreed to this, the exhaustion visible in his features. “I wish we could talk more…”
“Tomorrow,” you promised, offering your hand out for him to take. “We can eat breakfast together again.”
He stood up on shaky feet, and you shuffled back over to the bed with him, helping him back under the covers.
“Could you sit with me? Until I go to sleep?” He requested, gently grasping your hand.
“Of course.” You sat down on the edge of the bed, brushing a few stray pieces of hair out of his eyes.
“Your hands are even colder on Galaria, I think,” he commented, smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“Well shit, maybe it’s the frozen tundra outside,” you retorted.
“I… don’t mind…” he hummed, his eyes fluttering shut.
“Sleep well, Jungwoo,” you murmured, stroking your thumb over the back of his hand.
You ate breakfast with Jungwoo as promised, happy to take part in this one little thing with him again.
“How are you feeling?” You asked, sitting with him at the table. He was already there with two places set when you entered.
“Better than yesterday, not as good as tomorrow,” he told you brightly. “How did you sleep?”
“Good, good.” You continued watching him carefully as he ate. “You really feel better?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Then do you think… do you think it took?” You pushed some food around on your plate awkwardly. “Would you even know that?”
Jungwoo set his utensil down, easing back in his chair slowly. “Yes, I think it took. How does that make you feel?”
“I’m happy you’re okay,” you answered honestly. “The rest… Like I said, I’m trying to understand you, but I just don’t get it.”
“Ask me anything you’d like. Please.”
“I mean, doesn’t it seem unfair? That I’m apparently your soulmate, but you’re not mine?”
“Unfair to who? You or me?”
You faltered. “What?”
“I do understand how this would seem unfair to you—That I know that you’re my soulmate, but you don’t have that certainty about me,” he shook his head sorrowfully. “Yes, that must be terrible.”
“No, I meant unfair to you. You’re stuck with me. You don’t get a choice. But I do, I don’t have that sort of obligation to you,” you pointed out, shifting forward in your chair. “Doesn’t that make you… anxious?”
“Ah, I get it now.” Jungwoo nodded, a thoughtful look on his face as he too sat up. “Galarii find, humans pick. I wouldn’t want to take that choice away from you. I… understand now, how important it is to you. So, if you do pick me, that’ll be the happiest day of my life. And every day after that that you wake up and pick me again, will be the new happiest day of my life.”
He held his hand out on the tabletop between the two of you, palm up, a soft smile on his face as he looked at you. Not urging, not impatient. You knew he would withdraw it if you turned away.
“You’re really…” You kept looking between him and his hand, keeping your tone curious. “Finding was good enough for you?”
“Good enough?” He chuckled, not derisively but fondly. “It was even better than I imagined.”
“You were half-dead, when I pulled you out of that ship,” you reminded him.
“Yeah, I was.”
“Galarii find, humans pick,” you repeated. “Just like you wouldn’t want to take my choice away from me, it would be wrong to force a choice like that onto you… But isn’t inaction just as much of a decision?”
Jungwoo’s smile only grew. “If it is, it’s one that I already made. I hope you can respect that, just as I’ll respect whatever you choose to do.”
You placed your hand atop his, offering him a hesitant smile. “This is me choosing to try this out. Does that make sense?”
“Yes.” He squeezed your hand gently. “Thank you. Once I’m better I’ll take you home and take you on real dates there. I promise.”
“So Galarii date too? I thought you guys would’ve just gone straight to moving in,” you joked, taking a bite of your food.
“No. I watched movies with Taeyong and Doyoung,” he explained. “Galarii spend quality time with their mate, yes, but the concept of going on ‘dates’ like humans to figure out if you’re compatible… we don’t have anything quite like that.”
“Of course those two took you to some sappy romantic movies,” you snickered. “I don’t need any big romantic public gestures, Jungwoo. Falling out of the sky and almost dying twice was plenty, I swear.”
“Your friends all said something similar.”
“They were giving you tips on how to flirt with me?”
“Yes. It seemed they were aware that I cared for you in some way…”
You burst out laughing, covering your face in embarrassment. “Oh God, I’m so sorry about them. Forget everything they said, whatever it was.”
“So, carnations aren’t your favorite flower?”
“Hold on, that’s real advice, who told you that?”
“Taeyong.”
“Okay, you can trust whatever Taeyong told you, and probably Doyoung, and maybe Jaehyun,” you counted them off on your fingers. “But forget everything that anybody else told you.”
“I will,” he agreed with a chuckle. “Some of it didn’t seem like very sound advice anyway.”
A couple days later, and Jungwoo was well enough to leave his room finally. The two of you walked around the house arm in arm, chatting about this or that.
“This is the longest I’ve been on Galaria in quite some time,” he mused.
“Kun said that you don’t stay for very long, so you don’t have your own place,” you said. “Don’t you get lonely? Not being around your friends or family?”
“Have you seen either of us have any visitors while you’ve been here? Aside from Dejun?”
“Well, no.”
“We don’t see other Galarii much during snow season,” he explained. “It’s less lonely out doing runs, actually. Interacting with customers, going to markets, busy cities… crash-landing on planets and being pulled from the wreckage by a beautiful human and her friends.”
“Smooth,” you giggled, bumping your shoulder into his as he smiled down at you. “But seriously, you guys don’t have tunnels connecting your homes or something?”
“Galaria’s crust is very thin compared to other rocky planets. We wouldn’t have the depth to build an elaborate system like that. At least not a very efficient one. Any transport that happens needs to be on the surface.”
“How do you all communicate during snow season then? Do you have phones too?”
“We have similar communication devices, yes.”
“How long is snow season?”
“Approximately half a Galarian year.”
You looked up at him curiously. “So what do you call the other half of the year, then?”
“We have two more seasons: Snowmelt, and newgreen.”
“I think I can guess what happens in each of those…” You joked.
“Do tell.”
“I think the snow melts, and then new green stuff grows.”
He chuckled fondly. “That’s the basics, yes.”
“But do you not have something between newgreen and snow season? Like a-a fall of some kind?” You were having a hard time wrapping your head around it. “We have four seasons for the most part: Spring, everything grows, kind of like newgreen I think; then in summer, it gets hotter but pretty much everything stays alive; then in fall it starts getter colder and things start dying off; then we have winter, and everything is dead or hibernating. Then it’s spring again and everything starts all over.”
Jungwoo listened with interest to your explanation before answering. “Snow season comes very rapidly each year. All the plants freeze at once in the first blizzard. There’s no time for a gradual decay like you’ve described.”
Your eyes widened. “Are you able to predict when the first blizzard is? Do you have like, meteorologists or something?”
“Yes, we’re able to narrow it down rather precisely and prepare.”
“And do most Galarii live alone like Kun?” You asked quietly. “I feel like if I was going to be stuck underground for half the year, unable to visit anybody, I might live with more than just one or two people.”
Jungwoo put a finger over his mouth, then nodded towards his room that the two of you had unwittingly looped back around to. He shut the door behind you, and you sat at the table together before he continued with your conversation, “Do you remember how I said my brother is controversial, not for any policies, but for something in his personal life?”
It felt like a lifetime ago, the first conversation you ever had. You nodded. “Yes.”
“Kun is very dedicated to his job.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“He doesn’t take many breaks, or attend social functions that are not required by his job, or, as you’ve pointed out, live with anybody except his aide and me, sometimes. Galarii typically do live in larger social centers during snow season. There’re no tunnels connecting these niches to each other, like I said before, but some can fit up to twenty or thirty people.”
“And you, Kun, and Dejun just have your own house,” you reiterated. “How would that make him so controversial that somebody would want to kill him?”
“Some Galarii see him as isolationist. Refusing to allow opportunities to find things. They believe it reflects poorly on his ability to lead.”
Your face screwed up with confusion. “But if you’re looking to find something, that’s no longer serendipity, that’s choice. That’s action. I thought the whole point was the inaction. Of you finding something when you weren’t looking?”
“Galarii have different interpretations of finder’s intuition, and what it means to ‘find’ something,” he sighed. “It’s a very small minority that see this as a flaw of his, but those that do feel very strongly about it.”
“Strong enough to try to kill him?” You felt like you were losing your mind trying to comprehend this.
“Apparently.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose before giving up. “You know what? Humans have definitely killed for much less; I don’t have any ground to stand on here.”
“That reminds me—I believe I’ll be well enough to take you home in two more days. I’m excited to show you my ship.”
“Really?” You focused him with a doubtful gaze. “I don’t want you pushing yourself for my sake, Jungwoo. I can wait.”
“Thank you. I assure you I’m being sincere. If I’m not at my best, that can pose a hazard to your safety.”
You sighed and put your head on his shoulder. “While I wish the reasons were a little more concerned for your wellbeing too, I appreciate the honesty.”
Jungwoo gently rested his head against yours. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Wanting me to live,” he said softly. “When you found me on Earth, when you brought me back to Galaria… Thank you.”
You picked your head back up to look at him incredulously. “What? Why would I want anything else? Why would I want you to die?”
“It’s very rare for Galarii to imprint on other species. And those who do, there haven’t been very many that take…”
“They died?”
“Yes.” He looked down at his hands, fidgeting with the material over his lap. “It’s even a common subject of Galarian stories. It’s… tragically romantic, to die so your mate can be happy with whoever they’re really in love with.”
You could feel the deep frown on your face as you listened to this. “But those are just stories. Characters live or die to explore narrative themes and emotions and societal concepts, not to be an example for real life.”
Jungwoo chuckled lightly, tracing a fingertip over one of the lines on your forehead, encouraging you to relax your face again. “That’s why I’m thanking you. You chose a different fate for me than the one I had accepted.”
“What did I say before, hm? Finders keepers,” you declared, grabbing his other hand. “You’re not going to die as long as I have something to say about it.”
“Immortality here I come,” he joked, caressing your cheek with the back of his fingers, then even lower, your jawline, your neck, until he picked up the transcoder from where it rested on your chest. He stared at it in wonder, as if it wasn’t his own piece of technology.
“You don’t mind, right?” You looked down at the pendant as well. “That I took your transcoder? I figured it would be easier for me to wear one than expect everyone else to…”
“No, of course not.” He dropped the jewelry again. “I’m just… very happy that it works for you.”
“Why wouldn’t it?”
“They have to be specially made for the Galarii who is going to wear it. Galarii can’t borrow each other’s transcoders.”
“Does it have something to do with the telepathy?”
“Yes.” He nodded. “I’ve never seen someone be able to wear someone else’s transcoder successfully.”
“Not even Galarii that imprint on each other?” You asked curiously, habitually gracing your own fingertips over the device.
“No, not even then.”
“Maybe it’s a human thing.”
“Maybe,” Jungwoo hummed noncommittally.
Two Galarian days later, and you and Jungwoo were ready to go back to Earth.
“Thank you so much, Kun,” you hugged your host goodbye. “Please stay safe.”
He looked confused as he released you from the hug. “Aren’t I supposed to be telling you that?”
You patted his arm. “I mean it.”
“Very well,” he relented with a smile. “Thank you, and the same for you.”
After you and Dejun had exchanged your goodbyes, you saw that Kun and Jungwoo were still embracing, and stood off to the side to wait patiently. Kun seemed to be half-hugging and half-lecturing Jungwoo, cuffing him by the ear to pull him down to his height as he spoke on and on seriously, and Jungwoo nodded or gave a joking whine every so often.
“Kun’s older,” you leaned over to whisper to Dejun.
“You’re guessing?” The aide whispered back.
“You can call it a hunch, yeah.”
Finally, Kun let Jungwoo go, and he straightened up, fixing his clothes with the help of his brother. You and Jungwoo didn’t have very much in terms of luggage to take—Jungwoo kept his personal belongings on his ship, and you came with nothing but your clothes and your phone. Kun and Dejun had given you more appropriate outer layers for the tundra outside, as well as food and supplies for the flight back to Earth, but really your only souvenir was your now extraterrestrially-modified cellphone.
“Ready?” Jungwoo asked you, carrying the small knapsack of supplies on his back.
You pulled your goggles down over your face and gave him the best thumbs-up you could with the thick gloves you had on. “Ready!”
You caught just a glimpse of his eyes crinkling with a smile before he too put his goggles on. Jungwoo clasped your hand as Dejun reached out towards the smooth face of the front door. This time you were able to properly see as he touched his necklace to a small panel that reminded you of the buttons on their spaceships, and a small yellow glow emanated from where they connected. Then, the door slid aside, into the cavern wall. You and Jungwoo stepped out together, the door shutting silently behind you.
Keeping a tight hold to Jungwoo’s hand and arm, you followed him through the snow that had continued building up. There was none actively falling now, giving you a much clearer view of the lilac expanse above. Despite the sameness of the landscape, Jungwoo seemed to know exactly where he was going. You didn’t realize you had arrived anywhere specific until Jungwoo suddenly stopped at one specific hill, brushing aside some snow on a post. You couldn’t read the writing on it, but he seemed satisfied, pulling it down. A small hatch opened in the snow in front of you, and he quickly ushered you over to it. Gesturing for you to wait a moment, he dropped the pack down first, then climbed down after it. From the bottom, he waved you down. You slowly started lowering yourself down as well, Jungwoo waiting right there for you.
Buried under who knows how much snow, your eyes had to acclimate to the darkness again. You had found yourself in the rear of Jungwoo’s ship, and he closed the hatch back up after you before pulling you towards the cockpit at the front. It was a two-seater like the one that he had borrowed from Kun, but you could immediately tell there was a lot more of a personal touch to this one. It was sleeker, the controls looking newer than the other, and you saw the occasional knickknack, notepad, or even piece of clothing strewn about the cockpit. He moved a jacket that had been hanging off the co-pilot seat then gestured to it for you.
You sat down as Jungwoo started preparing the ship for takeoff, still thinking about the mounds of snow atop you. Taking your goggles and mask off like he had, you asked, “What about all the snow?”
“The energy generated from the ship’s reactors melts it by the time we take off,” he explained, continuing to flip switches and push buttons.
“Wow.” You watched him work with a practiced ease and focus.
Finally, he turned back around to you, leaning in close as he dug around in the seat for your seatbelt. He grinned as he buckled it up and tightened it for you. “Can’t forget—Precious cargo.”
You just shook your head and smiled as he laughed and sat in his own seat. After getting himself situated, you two were ready for takeoff.
Jungwoo looked over at you, offering his hand out to you. “Ready?”
You grabbed it, squeezing it tightly as you nodded. “Ready.”
“Let’s go!” He cheered, joyfully slamming his hand down on a button. A countdown started on the monitors and from the speakers, and this time you could understand the announcement. It counted down from 10, and on 1, the reactors changed from a thrum to a full-on blast, and like when you took off from Earth, the ground lurched out from under you again. You couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment when you left Galaria, though, only when the reactors cooled back down to a hum.
You looked back over to Jungwoo expectantly. He unbuckled himself, a bright grin on his face. “We’re out of Galarian space.”
“Cool,” you breathed out, looking around the ship with wide eyes.
The Galarii started unbuckling you as well, pulling you to your feet. “Come on, I’ve got to show you around my ship!”
Maybe it was because you were in a different ship, maybe it was because you were no longer fearing for Jungwoo’s life, you couldn’t be sure, but the trip back to Earth felt a lot shorter than the trip to Galaria. This time, you directed Jungwoo to land on Johnny’s family farm just outside the city. Johnny’s parents were older and no longer kept livestock in one of the barns on the property, making it the perfect place to hide Jungwoo’s ship while it was there.
It was nighttime when you arrived, and Jungwoo effortlessly landed in the far-off field that you had been to many times when visiting Johnny’s grandparents growing up. He maneuvered into the open barn, and you were buzzing with excitement as he powered down the ship.
This time, he let you exit the hatch first, and you looked around eagerly, immediately spotting your two friends by the now-closed doors. You waved to Johnny and Jaehyun, sliding off the side of the ship to land easily on both feet.
“Johnny!” You exclaimed, throwing your arms around him first.
“Y/N, oh my God,” Johnny breathed out, crushing you to him so tightly the air was knocked from your lungs. “God damn it, kid, don’t do that again. Okay?”
“Okay, okay,” you coughed out your agreement, rubbing his back reassuringly.
“You’re late, you know that?” He continued scolding you even as he cradled the back of your head. “You said five days, we’ve been waiting here for two more days. I tried to call.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I tried to guess as best I could. The days must be more different than I thought,” you mumbled into his shirt. “My phone died when we were coming back. I’m sorry for worrying you. Thank you for waiting, John. Thank you.”
When he finally let you go, you were grabbed in a bear hug by Jaehyun. “I’m glad you’re okay, Y/N. We both are.”
“Thanks, Jae,” you let out a sigh of relief at being able to breathe a little better. “I missed you guys.”
“How are you doing, Jungwoo?” Jaehyun turned to the Galarii next. “Johnny said it sounded pretty bad, but you’re looking alright to me.”
Jungwoo nodded, the transcoder now dangling from his neck. “I’m healed now. Thank you, Jaehyun.”
“Good to hear, dude.” Jaehyun hugged him too. “Good to hear.”
“Thanks, Jungwoo.” Johnny offered his hand out for Jungwoo to shake. “I’m glad you pulled through. Really.”
“What did you tell your parents?” You asked Johnny nervously. “About the barn?”
“I said one of my friends was going to keep a boat here for a few days. Their knees aren’t good enough to come all the way out here, they won’t come looking.” He then looked at you pointedly, “You should make an appearance, Y/N. While you’re here.”
“Are they up now?”
He looked at his watch. “Yeah. Your parents are actually over right now.”
You grimaced. “Really?”
“Really.”
“So I get back from my destination bachelorette trip that I didn’t bother telling them about and have enough time to help move a boat into storage but not see my parents—Daughter of the year,” you muttered regretfully.
“You did this to yourself, kid.” Johnny patted you on the head.
“I know, I know.”
Entering the Suhs’ living room where your parents were playing a game of cards, you went around to give everyone hellos, your parents first, then Johnny’s. Jungwoo was introduced as a friend of Johnny and Jaehyun’s, and lingered in the darkness by the doorway. Jaehyun had provided him a ballcap to help hide his iridophores in the shadows as much as he could as you tried to keep your conversations with your families short and quaint.
“When did you get back, Y/N?” Your mom asked.
“Earlier today—It’s been crazy, sorry I didn’t text you, Mom,” you immediately apologized, kissing her head quickly.
“We picked Y/N up from the airport and got distracted with the boat,” Jaehyun rescued you, flashing a charmingly dimpled smile at the parents. “Our bad, sorry, Mrs. Y/L/N.”
“Who is getting married?”
“Uhm, Chaeyoung.” You quickly picked a friend that you had met in college to guarantee that your mom didn’t know their parents and therefore wouldn’t try to congratulate anybody behind your back.
She nodded. “Ahh…”
“Whose boat did you say it was, Johnny?” Mr. Suh questioned his son next. “It’s not Yuta’s, is it?”
“Oh, he’s been talking about getting one since high school, hasn’t he?” Johnny’s mom laughed.
“Yep, it’s his,” Johnny nodded along.
Your dad appraised the four of you. “And he couldn’t even help you all?”
“Well, it’s mine too,” Jaehyun once again came in for the save. “We went in halfsies on it after my promotion. He was busy tonight, so I just went ahead and moved it.”
“Jungwoo, isn’t it?” Mr. Suh called out to the Galarii.
“Yes, sir.” He hastily gave a polite bow, fidgeting with the ballcap under the older man’s gaze.
“How did you get roped into their three-ring circus?”
“Yes, it’s better to stay out of the line of fire, especially where our kids are concerned,” your dad chuckled.
“I don’t mind helping, really,” Jungwoo replied, gaze hesitantly skittering over to you. You gave him an encouraging smile.
Johnny’s mom patted your cheek then. “I’m sure our Y/N must be tired after that trip. We’ll let you all go.”
“Thank you, Auntie,” you said appreciatively, giving her a kiss on the cheek as well as you tried to escape with the other guys.
Before you could fully retreat from the room, however, your mom caught your hand. The two mothers exchanged a look as they gestured for you to stoop down to their level. You obliged.
“Keep an eye on that new one, sweetie,” Mrs. Suh rather obviously pointed to Jungwoo even as she whispered.
“He couldn’t take his eyes off you this whole time,” your mom added, just as hushed as her friend.
“Goodbye, Auntie.” you purposefully ignored their statements, giving them final hugs and kisses goodbye. “Goodbye, Mom.”
As the four of you walked from the front door to Johnny’s waiting car far down the dirt driveway, Jungwoo sidled up to you.
“May I uh… May I know what that was about?” He asked quietly. “When they pointed at me?”
You giggled, stopping to pull on his shoulder and bring his ear down to you. “They were warning me about you. Said you couldn’t take your eyes off me.”
Jungwoo chuckled breathily. “An acute observation.”
“They said I should keep an eye on you.”
“That makes me sound dangerous.”
“Well—”
“Hey!” Johnny called out from the end of the drive, standing at his car and spinning his keys around his finger. “Are you done?”
“I’ve got class tomorrow!” Jaehyun added, though the teasing was apparent in his tone.
“Coming!” You chirped back, starting down the driveway again.
Johnny easily navigated back to your apartment, drumming his thumbs on the steering wheel to the melody playing over his speakers. He finally broke the peaceful quiet in the car as your building was approaching.
“So how long are my parents going to be housing the boat?” He asked dryly.
“Oh, uhm,” you and Jungwoo looked at each other uncertainly. “I’m not sure yet. A few days, maybe more. Is that okay?”
“That’s fine. Just let me know when he’s going back.”
“Right. Yeah.”
He put the car in park and got out to give you one more hug on the sidewalk in front of your building. Your friend let out a deep breath with you still in his arms. “I’m really glad you’re back, Y/N. I’m serious.”
“I know, John,” you replied, hugging him back. “Thank you.”
Waving to Jaehyun through the window, you and Jungwoo headed inside. Thankfully, you hadn’t missed your rent payment while you were gone, so you still had an apartment to go back to. Looking at the day on your phone, you realized that you’d normally have work tomorrow.
“I wonder if I’ve been fired,” you snickered to yourself, closing your front door behind Jungwoo. He looked back at you, clearly worried, but you waved his concern off. “I hated that job anyway.”
The Galarii peered out past your curtains at the full moon in the sky. “It’s late. You should get some rest.”
“I’m not tired,” you admitted. “I think Galarian days are longer or something.”
“Do you remember what you were going to say? In the driveway at Johnny’s parents’ home?”
“Hm? Oh, when you were asking me about what our moms said?” You stretched your arms above your head. “You were confused because they made your interest in me sound dangerous. You almost died because of it, why are you confused about that?”
“I understand how it can be dangerous to me, but that doesn’t happen to you.” He stepped closer to you, cocking his head in confusion.
You sat down on your couch, gesturing for him to sit with you. “To humans, it still can be. Falling in love with the wrong person, exposing yourself like that. It can get you hurt, physically or emotionally. Sometimes they’re a bad person, or sometimes you’re both good people with the right intentions, but it still goes wrong.”
Jungwoo’s eyes widened. “And you still choose to do this? Over and over?”
“Yes, we do,” you laughed. “What other choice do we have?”
In the late afternoon, after you and Jungwoo had finally woken up and eaten breakfast, you went out for a walk at the seaside. Taking a deep breath in, you reveled in the feeling of the warm rays of sun on your skin again.
“Look at that blue sky,” you beamed up appreciatively. “Actually, I think I’m just happy to see any sky again.”
“Really?” Jungwoo prompted you.
“After being underground for so long? Yeah, being in a wide-open space feels good.” You did a big spin with your arms open. The beach was relatively empty in the middle of the week with most everyone at work. “Don’t get me wrong, it was cool to see where you’re from.”
“I like it here too,” he agreed with a smile as you returned to his side, lacing your fingers with his.
“The guys want to get dinner later, by the way,” you informed him. “They’re also happy you’re not dead.”
“That’s kind of them.”
Up ahead was a familiar area of damaged palm trees and brush, slowly beginning to grow back. You pointed to it with a grin, “Look, it’s where we met.”
Jungwoo squinted against the sun, looking at the foliage with interest. “It is?”
“Yep. Looks a bit different in the daytime, huh? And without a spaceship in it?”
“And I don’t think we ever approached it from this side.”
“And there’s no cops.” You pointed out a nearby firepit as you passed it. “That’s where we were all hanging out when you crashed. We thought you were a shooting star at first. Hyuck told everyone to make a wish.”
“Is that a human custom?”
“Superstition, yeah. You’re supposed to make a wish on a shooting star.”
“What did you wish for?”
You grinned. “If you tell, your wish isn’t going to come true.”
“Ah, I see. My apologies.”
“But mine already came true, so there’s no harm in saying, I think.”
Jungwoo looked at you curiously as you continued.
“I wished for something interesting to happen,” you admitted with a knowing smirk. “And the interesting things haven’t stopped since.”
He burst into laughter, halting your leisurely stroll as he clutched his stomach. “S-Seriously?”
“Seriously.” You began listing them off on your fingers, “Alien spaceship crashing right next to us, alien inside spaceship being almost dead, alien declaring I’m his soulmate, alien almost dying again, going to alien’s home planet to keep him from dying, alien getting better and taking me back to Earth. Been pretty interesting.”
He was still laughing, squatting down to try to compose himself.
“So maybe it wasn’t an assassination attempt that made you crash,” you said humorously. “Maybe it was my super powerful wish.”
“But-But I was already crashing when you made that wish,” he pointed out through giggles. “You used my-my crashing spaceship to make your wish.”
“Ah, technicalities.”
Jungwoo stood up on shaky feet, and you offered him your hand to steady him. “I’m starting to think that human choice is a more powerful force than gravity.”
“Really?”
“Or at least your choices.”
You sighed, grabbing his face with two hands to look him in the eye. “Jungwoo, you can’t just say shit like that.”
“Why not?” He asked, eyes carefully watching your expression.
“Because you just called me a cosmic force and that’s definitely the most romantic thing anybody’s ever said to me.”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Because it makes me want to kiss you stupid on this public beach.”
His breaths trembled in the space between you. “There’s nobody here.”
“You make some good points.” You wrapped your arms around his neck, stopping before your lips met. “Jungwoo.”
“Hm?” His hands had settled on your waist, where they had been when you were dancing together.
“Is this okay? Can I kiss you?”
He swallowed, his eyes on yours as he hurriedly nodded. “Yes.”
You didn’t need to be told twice, slotting your mouths together finally. Jungwoo let out a hum of delight in the back of his throat, the curl at the corner of his lip apparent. His smile only continued to grow with each passing moment as you made good on your promise, bringing a hand around to cup his cheek.
When you dropped back onto flat feet again, he was standing there with a dazed, content smile on his face. His iridophores were no longer just glinting in the sun, they were fully pulsing with a soft, glowing light from under his skin, like a little heartbeat. You reached a hand up towards his cheek, and he stayed still as you traced over them in fascination. After a few moments, the glow faded away, and they were back to their normal reflective state.
“What was that?” You whispered breathlessly. “Are you okay—”
“I’m great,” he promised, taking one of your hands and kissing the back of it. “They’ll do that sometimes. When I’m really happy.”
“God, okay,” you relaxed. “It was like I really did have a fallen star in my hands.”
“If you say something romantic back, does that mean I get to kiss you stupid?”
“This is a concerning precedent I’ve set, isn’t it?”
“It’d only be fair.” He pouted.
You looked around, finding the beach still vacant of other patrons. “Alright, alright.”
After getting dinner with your friends, you and Jungwoo declined any rides offered, taking the long way back to your apartment.
“The guys were happy to hang out with you again,” you said brightly.
“Yes, it was nice to see them all,” Jungwoo replied.
“I can’t believe Hyuck asked you if you had tentacles though, honestly,” you shook your head. “He needs to keep that between him and incognito mode.”
“I take it he wasn’t being scientifically rigorous?”
You snorted, “No.”
You looked up at the navy blue sky, dotted with so few stars.
“What does the night sky look like on Galaria?” You asked Jungwoo. “I didn’t see it while we were there.”
“Many more stars,” he answered quietly. “I think because we don’t have any permanent light fixtures on our surface.”
“Ah, no light pollution. Must be nice.”
“It is.”
There was a comfortable lull in conversation, cars passing by and the distant sounds of city life continuing around you.
“You said once that you wouldn’t be happy behind a desk now that you knew that aliens existed,” Jungwoo recalled. “Since you’ve been to space and have come back home… Do you feel the same? Do you want to stay here?”
You tilted your head back and forth as you thought, still looking up at the stars. Finally, you answered, “While I was on Galaria, I needed to come home, to make sure everyone knew I was okay. And now that I’ve done that, I keep thinking about what we could’ve done on that trip if you hadn’t been, you know, dying.”
His voice was guarded as he prompted, “So you…”
“So if you’re asking me to come with you, Jungwoo, the answer is yes.” You looked over at him knowingly.
“Oh!” His iridophores were glowing again as he wrapped his arms around you tightly, vibrating with energy. “There’s so many places I can take you! You’ll love Irwon, and the lagoons in Til-Wyn, and I need to check that the Nightbringer’s Festival hasn’t happened yet!”
“Sounds like a date,” you grinned, hugging him back. “Several, actually.”
“And we’ll come back to Earth whenever you want. Say the word, and we’ll come right back for you to stay and see your loved ones for as long as you wish.”
“Thank you.” You took his hands as he let you go, catching his eye to tell him sincerely, “And I want to learn Galarii, too. So we can actually communicate, without one of us wearing your transcoder. Even if I speak with a silly human accent because I’m missing a flap or whatever.”
On top of the pulsing iridophores, you saw Jungwoo’s eyes get misty, a tear spilling over on one cheek as he was absolutely beaming down at you.
“Jungwoo are you crying?” You asked in disbelief, wiping at it with your thumb as another fell from his other eye.
“I think I am, yes,” he nodded, feeling at his damp undereyes.
“Tears of joy, I hope?” You continued dabbing at his cheeks as you tried to comfort him through his apparently bewildering situation.
“Do humans do that?”
“Sometimes, yeah.”
He smiled and nodded. “Then yes, that must be it.”
“Oh God, come here.” You pulled him back into your arms. “Seriously, what am I going to do with you?”
He sniffled, then supplemented, “Keep me?”
You giggled and pressed a kiss to cheek, right on his glowing iridophores. “I guess so. Finders keepers, after all.”

... Hello.
First of all: I'm very sorry about my last post. I really wasn't feeling good at all due to a combination of things and felt that my writing didn't deserve any praise... but I'm doing way better now. I'm slowly reconciling with my writing and finding joy in it again, though I still have to make a decision about posting again in the future or not. I still need some more time to think about that.
Aside from that... I'm now unemployed. I learnt about this the day after posting my latest story, and the news joined my own insecurities and, well... the rest is history. Still, I've had some time to accept it, and I'm trying to see the bright side of it. I now have more time to study as I still have to take a very hard exam in two weeks time (December 14th... I'm dreading that date just as much as I want it to come asap).
So even if this hasn't been easy at all, I'm now doing better and trying to see how I can make the best of the free time this will give me. I'll obviously search for a new job, but for now I'm just gonna focus on my exam, and then perhaps I'll allow myself to take a vacation and just enjoy the Christmas festivities. I feel that I need it, even if I'm not a big fan of Christmas myself.
There's a couple of factors that have helped me go through this hard time and I couldn't be more thankful. Of course, the first one is you: all of you who have reached out in any way just to let me know I'm loved and supported just for who I am, and not for what I write or even if I write at all. I promise I never intended this to happen... I want to continue writing for myself like I've always done, but I don't want it to become a source of anxiety and insecurity. I already have enough of both 😅
My beloved @vulpixfairy1985 @megamagimugi @bberetd and @itsavee4117: thank you so much not only for commenting on my latest post, but also for reaching out through Instagram and being there for me on that site. Thank you for listening to me and allowing me to vent, and for showing me your support every day. I owe you a big one 💖
@aqua-peri and @peaches2217: thank you so much for reaching out privately, and @wahooitsamee @loud-kid2 @smokszyvverstar
@roscolate @eleventhhourfactor @pepperycar @multicolour-ink @elitadream
@kelbreyworshipper @katlyntheartist @stripetkattelalala54 @marioandluigi1983: thank you so much for your kind comments/reblogs on my latest post. To all of you: your words have truly made a difference and made me feel so loved and validated. I hadn't checked this site in two weeks and finding all your beautiful wishes and words of support has really moved me. Thank you so much 💖
As for the second thing that has helped me these past two weeks... I'm sure it's actually quite easy to guess 😊
This game and these brothers have kept my need to fangirl alive and well. It's given me so much. They have given me so much ❤️💚 Whenever I feel ready and have the time, get ready to hear me yap about Brothership because I beat it last night and I have SO MUCH to say.
Still, this doesn't mean I'll be active again. As I mentioned, I have an exam to take in two weeks, so I'll probably be missing most of the time. I won't be checking tags or anything else for now. I'll focus on my exam and the rest will come later. I may reblog some stuff occasionally but that's all you'll see from me until I'm completely free.
I sincerely hope you're all doing fine, and hopefully I can start catching up with everything soon. Feel free to reach out or tag me or whatever, but please don't expect a quick answer.
With that said: thank you again so much. I love you 💖
#so... I'm back but I'm not I guess?#anyways sorry again for everything#I sincerely love you very much#💖💖💖

WHEN LOVE FADES
Pairings: Toji x Y/N
From this poll
synopsis: Toji’s relationship with Y/N was always a little tricky but Y/N still stayed even though her friends told Y/N how he wasn’t a good partner until he forgets their anniversary and leaves Y/N waiting for him at the restaurant for 6 hours, then when Y/N finally realizes Their love faded.
WC: 1k
CONTENT WARNING: Toji is an asshole, he forgets about your anniversary, alcohol abuse, A HELLA LOT OF ANGST, Fighting, Blaming.
A/N: Sorry this was so unintimate, i didnt have much motivation. Class has been really hard on me rn:(
I sat at a small table, a single white candle flickering in the center, illuminating the carefully crafted menu that lay untouched before me. The whispers of other couples floated around, filled with laughter and sweet nothings. I glanced at the clock for the umpteenth time. It was 9:30 PM, and the reservation had been at 3:00 PM. I could almost hear my friends’ voices in my head, their warnings echoing like a distant memory.
“Y/N, you deserve better than Toji. He’s not good for you.”
But yet, here I was, waiting. Toji and I had always walked a tightrope of chaos and comfort, his flaws often eclipsed by a flicker of charm. He’d sweep me off my feet one moment and leave me questioning my worth the next.
I poured the last drops of water from the pitcher into my glass, staring through the translucent surface. The ashy blue of his eyes would twinkle with mischief, the kind that made my heart race in ways I didn’t even want to admit. But today, they felt as distant as he was.
By the time the waitress cleared my empty table—half-heartedly touching her arm as if to say “maybe you should go”—I felt the weight of hopelessness pressing down on me. Had I been foolish to wait? To believe that today would be different?
Suddenly, the bell above the restaurant door chimed, breaking through my encasing silence. I straightened, my heart stammering as I turned to see Toji step in. He looked disheveled and slightly out of breath, his typical swagger dampened by the despair that surrounded him.
“Y/N!” he exclaimed when his eyes found me—first a flash of relief and then, confusion.
“Where have you been, Toji?” I hardly recognized the coolness in my own voice.
“I… I lost track of time. Things got a bit out of hand.” He ran a hand through his messy black hair, something he did when he was trying to gather his thoughts.
My heart ached as the memories swirled around us—the fond moments we’d shared, entwined with uncertainty and unfulfilled promises. “You forgot our anniversary,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady, but the tremor in my words betrayed me.
“I’m here now, right?” he said, and there was a hint of desperation in the smile he tried to muster. “Let’s make the best of it.”
“Six hours of waiting is a long ‘now,’ Toji.”
The flickering candlelight danced between us, casting shadows around the worn features of his face. “I know, and I’m sorry. I just… I lost track. It won’t happen again.”
But something shifted in my heart. Each year, we’d been caught in this carousel of doubt and affection, wit and sorrow. I could internalize this moment, mark it and brush it aside, but tonight, something felt irrevocable.
“The bill…” I started, but Toji cut me off with a wave of his hand, a look of guilt etching across his face.
“We can talk about that later.”
“Can we?” I challenged quietly, rage bubbling beneath the surface. “How many ‘laters’ do we have to go through before we face what’s real?”
His eyes flickered, and for a moment, I saw the man I fell in love with, his heart laid bare in the dim light, vulnerable and exposed. But just as quickly, he masked it with nonchalance.
“It was just a bad day, Y/N. We’ve all had them.”
This was our never-ending dialogue—Toji, the eternal optimist, hiding behind reasons and excuses, often leaping from the serious to the unserious, brushing aside feelings as if they were dust. And I, the craftsperson of resilience, sweeping them under the proverbial rug of sanity.
“Six hours, Toji.” I breathed, the hurt echoing in the quiet as I struggled to find reasons to hold on. “What if today wasn’t just a bad day? What if this is just how things are now?”
Toji remained silent, swirling the ice in his glass. It was haunting, the way he could make the space between us feel like a chasm filled with regrets. We used to dance around this exhaustion, always painfully avoiding the heart of the matter.
Realization hit me like a sudden rush of cold. Our love was unfurling like an old leaf disintegrating into dust. The passion, the thrill—it was fading.
“I don’t want to keep waiting, Toji. Not for you or anyone.” I could feel the tears pooling at the corners of my eyes, a testament to the years gone by.
“What are you saying?” His voice slipped, and I could see a hint of panic in his eyes.
“I think I’m saying goodbye.”
“I won’t let you go ma…” he stated fiercely, but even that sounded hollow amidst all the despair coursing between us.
“It’s not about wanting or not wanting. This isn’t working anymore. I’ve tried to hold our little family together long enough…” A silent pause filled the air, thick with words left unspoken. What once felt sacred was now fractured, barely held together by strands of laughter obscured by shadow.
Toji reached for my hand, squeezing it tight as if it would anchor him to the present moment. “Please, don’t walk away,” he begged, his voice raw and pleading.
But I needed to walk. I needed to step into the light of clarity, however painful. I wished I could splinter away his demons, sprinkle his life with joy and love, but you cannot save someone who doesn’t wish to be saved.
“I need to know I’m enough for myself first, Toji,” I whispered, wiping away the tears that had betrayed me. “Maybe one day, you’ll understand.”
With one last lingering look, I stood and slipped out of the restaurant, leaving echoes of what once was behind me, wrestling with the shadows of heartache, yet free from the chains of those delicious, yet debilitating memories.
I guess this really was WHEN LOVE FADES…

Fallen Angel | Finding Normal
Friday nights could be busy for your late-night café. Not normally this busy though. When the fifth group of overly muscled men stumbled through your door looking for lots of coffee to sober up you had to ask.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to intrude, but why are you all here?” You ask the last man of the group who is paying for his large black coffee and one sugar.
“Huh? Oh, got told we can’t come back to base roaring drunk. One of the SAS told us about a coffee shop that is open until three am. Last call around here is one thirty.” He only slurs his words slightly.
“Okay, thanks that’s really helpful to know. Should I expect you all back next week?”
He blinks at you before grinning. “Probably us and more if the coffee is good.”
With a light laugh you let him know his drink will be ready shortly.
When the doors are locked, and you finish cleaning up you are delighted to see that your café turned a large profit for the first time. Even your tip jar sat full.
That’s how John apologized for pouncing on you with questions about choosing who you love. You loved them all dammit. You didn’t want to have sex, at all, but the idea of losing any of them cracked the foundation below your feet.
Johnny sent flowers. Every week since, what you were calling, the incident, a new bunch would arrive. Kyle dropped off a new book for you to read before he went out on his last job, a small note tucked into the first few pages where he apologized for hurting you. Simon paid for a spa day and left the number and amount on account for you before disappearing into his room. Gary. Thinking about Gary’s apology still makes you a bit sad.
They gave you three weeks of space before Gary cracked and waited in front of the door until you got home late one night from work. He looked so despondent that you offered a hand down to him.
Pulling Gary into your room you instruct him to get comfortable. Changing in the bathroom you come back to find him resting on your bed, eyes hidden by the crook of his elbow. Sliding under your blankets you scootch until you are resting next to his lean body.
He curls around you, tears wetting your hair settle against him.
“Please-se-se don’t leave us-s-s.”
Anyone else asking you could have rebuffed, or pushed away for another day. Gary’s broken plea told you it was time to give. They didn’t understand. And they wouldn’t understand unless you said something.
Rolling back to grab your phone off the nightstand you make sure Gary can read the messages you are typing. Firing off a few texts in the group chat you hope that the clarification on what you would be willing to give and desire in return. When you wake all of the guys are happily conversing in the kitchen, waiting for you.
<Couple things
<I love you all.
<I am asexual. For me, that means I don’t experience sexual attraction and live happily without sex in my life.
<I know that sex is deeply important physically, emotionally, psychologically for almost everyone else in the world.
<I can’t provide that.
<I am okay with kisses and even making out sometimes.
<If you still want to love me or spend time with me, I recommend we all sit down and discuss what polyamory might look like because either I get to love all of you or none of you.
You followed all that up with a few links to helpful and informative pages about asexuality and polyamory.
@backseatsoldier sending loves and kisses your way.

FAKE IT ‘TILL YOU MAKE IT, phase two:
<last chapter>
➴ chapter warnings: shitty ex boyfriend, mentions of cheating.
➴ word count: 2.5k
💌 from me to you: i just realised i was supposed to post this yesterday im sorry u guys i’m just dumb af. also, did you know it’s almost impossible finding a country music singer who isn’t an awful person or racist? i know zach bryan isn’t exactly a ray of sunshine but it fits the story so i apologise :( i hope u like it either way! ♡
𖧷
NICO OPENED the door for you after the second knock, which was a blessing— it usually took him more than ten knocks to actually hear that someone was on the other side of the door.
“Hey, there, fake girlfriend,” he kisses your cheeks three times, like he used to do in Switzerland, and you smile at the feathery touch on your skin. “Come in, I made soup.”
“I already ate, but thank you.” You place your purse on his couch, sitting down almost immediately. It had been a long day at work. Jeffrey, the section editor, was being a pain in your ass and spent the entire day trying to convince you to go out with him, claiming that he would take you somewhere to participate in a hot dog eating competition.
The issue here wasn’t the hot dog competition but the company. He was annoying and whenever he spoke, the spit coming from his mouth made you feel like you were in the middle of a rainstorm.
“Are you okay?” Nico asks, sitting by your side after grabbing a bowl of what must be soup for himself. “You look…”
You smile tiredly. “Tired, I know. I’m fine, it’s just work.”
“We can reschedule our meeting for another day, I don’t mind. You can also nap in my bed.” He offers, and you almost melt with how sweet he sounds.
“This is not a meeting and I’m fine, I swear,” you cross your legs, cracking your knuckles mindlessly. “So… we have the Zach Bryan concert coming up.”
Nico sighs, like what you just said was the worst thing in the entire world and you chuckle, finding his reaction cute.
“Do we really have to go?” he pouts and you want to coo.
“Usually, I’d tell you no and move on. You know I’m not a country music girl either but… I was thinking,” you run your fingers through your hair, braiding it while you speak. “It would be a great thing for us. There will be a lot of people there and, I mean… one of them has to know you. And one of them has to post something about us online.”
“And you think Nora will see it?” he asks, eyes full of hope, making your heart ache for a second. You wanted Nico to be happy so fucking bad, that the thought of Nora hurting him made you see red.
“I think… I think there’s a high chance of that happening, yeah,” you whisper, hoping that you were at least fifty percent right. “We’ll just be… y’know. A couple. Jack and the other guys are going to be there so we’d have to fake it anyway.”
“Mhm, you’re right,” he swallows a spoonful of carrot soup, licking his lips afterwards. “We’re fine, then. Instagram posting and all?”
You nod. “I’ll do the posting today. Maybe a picture of you with the guys, so it’s not too obvious.”
“Alright, cap,” he mockingly salutes you, and you laugh, throwing a pillow on his hips. “I’ll do my best.”
𖧷
THE ARENA where the concert was going to happen was full of people, and you caught yourself holding Nico’s hand tighter.
“Everything okay, baby?” Nico shouts over the music, and even though you’re surprised at how used he sounds whenever he calls you that, you nod at him, shaking your head up and down. “If you want to leave we can—”
“The hell you can!” Jack emerges from behind you both, shaking his head. “You promised me months ago that you’d come with me.”
You smile at him. “We did, yeah. Don’t worry, we’re not leaving.”
This time, Nico’s the one squeezing your hand and you give him an angry, yet playful look, while he looks absolutely adorable.
Jack convinced you and Nico to buy these tickets months ago, and when you bought them, you didn’t give it much thought— you knew you’d end up creating some random excuse and not going to the concert anyway.
Little did you know that when the concert day came, you’d be fake dating your long-time friend and trying to fool not only his friends, family and fans, but also Nora, a girl you despised.
Life is too confusing for you sometimes.
Fortunately, Jack also forced you all to pay for the VIP ticket, which meant that you didn’t have to be in the pit with people squeezing you and risking getting hurt, or something like that.
The VIP area was, in fact, just a huge room with a balcony view and snacks, all you can drink beer and some other fancy people who were just sitting there and taking pictures of themselves with their big, cowboy hats. Couples, friends, family— it looked like everyone and their mothers decided that it would be great to watch a man sing about love and broken hearts.
You were people watching— something you liked to do whenever you were in a place with too many people— when you felt one large yet gentle hand on your bare waist, making you jump slightly with how cold it was.
“Sorry,” Nico whispers in your ear, and the tiny yet present accent in his voice makes you smile. “You good?”
You had every intention to reply right away, but when you realized Nico had trapped your body between the balcony glass and his body, you froze. You knew you had to get used to being physically close to him, hell, you’d been the one who told him to keep touching you whenever you were in public so why were you feeling like this?
Sure, Nico’s attractive, always has been. But he’s also your friend. And in love with someone else.
You nod your head, grabbing the beer he bought for you and taking a long sip. Thankfully, the singer, Zach, decides that that was a good time to start singing so the lights are almost immediately off and the shouting covers your awkwardness.
Even though you’re not a fan, you have to admit that his songs are good. Swinging your body side to side to the country beat, you enjoy the show in Nico’s arms, laughing as you watch Jack dancing while holding Bastian’s hands and pretending to cry over Zach’s songs.
“D’you think we should do that?” Nico shouts over the music and you smile at him, confused.
“Do what?” you ask, also trying to make yourself heard over thousands of people singing and loud music.
“Dance,” he explains. “I’m the worst dancer ever but all of the couples are doing it.”
You look around for the first time since the concert started and you confirm that Nico’s right. The few couples in the room were animatedly dancing with each other, laughing and kissing like people in love are constantly doing.
You take a deep breath and finish your beer in one go, leaving your now empty cup on the table next to you. You turn your body around, laughing when Nico offers you his hand like a gentleman would, and you grab it, twirling afterwards.
We're havin' an all-night revival
Someone call the women and someone steal the Bible
For the sake of my survival
Baptize me in a bottle of Beam, put Johnny on the vinyl
Nico told the truth when he said he didn’t know how to dance, but his enthusiasm for sure made up for it. You both laughed hard as you danced around each other, laughing even harder when Jack tried to join the two of you just to have Bastian pulling him back like he was a ragdoll.
Well, the Devil can scrap, but the Lord has won
And I'll talk to him on the rising sun
His son rose and mine did too
I was coming down, but now I'm talking to you
“He ‘talking about you!” You shout over the song, and he leans closer to you, holding you in place while his stubble scratches your temple.
“What?” he grins.
“‘The Devil’. He’s talking about you,” you joke, praying he’ll understand the pun.
“Oh, sure, baby, he ‘talking about me.”
Suddenly, he pulls you a little bit too hard and you stumble, putting your hands on his chest, looking for some kind of support while he keeps your feet on the ground with his hands on your waist.
You’re breathing hard, all the dancing exercises are finally catching up on you. You’re staring at his coffee-colored eyes, feeling his chest go up and down underneath your hands, his breathing hitting your forehead with how close you both were.
You’re so… close. And even though your heart is beating frantically inside your chest, you cannot help but feel some sort of rightness in the place you’re at right now. And it’s so wrong.
So, so wrong. So terribly wrong and hideous yet—
The clapping and shouts bring you back to where you’re supposed to be, reminding you of how you’re supposed to act, of what you’re supposed to be doing. And that definitely isn’t having your hands all over Nico’s chest and standing inches away from his mouth.
“Em—”
“I’m thirsty,” you interrupt him, wiping a non-exist drop of sweat from your forehead. “I’m gonna go grab a drink, okay?”
“I can go.” He starts moving, but you’re faster. Placing a light kiss on his cheek you tell him you’ll be right back and start walking towards the bar.
Thankfully, it was almost empty since the majority of the people in the room were enjoying the concert in the area closer to the stage, so when you ask for another beer you get it shortly after paying. You decide to sit on one of the stools before going back to where Nico and the rest of the boys were.
The cold, bitter drink sits perfectly on your tongue before you swallow, and you hum to one of the few songs you knew, taking the opportunity to organize your thoughts inside your head.
You didn’t know what the things you were feeling for Nico Hischier meant.
Well. Actually, you did.
But it couldn’t be it, right? He’s your friend. Also, he’s in love with another woman. Also, he’s Nina’s, your friend’s brother. Isn’t it against the friend's law to hook up with their family? Or anyone related to them in any way?
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t my favorite ex.”
You mutter a quiet ‘fuck’ before turning your head around, sighing because of course that, at a twenty thousand people, sold-out concert, you’d end up in the same room as your shitty ex from two years ago.
“Hi, Carl.” You don’t even try to sound nice, because in reality, you don’t want to.
“Hi, Emma. Didn’t expect to see you here,” he leans on the counter, his brown hair falling over his face, long and ugly. “Are you here by yourself?”
“Why is that any of your business?” You roll your eyes at him, getting off the stool and resuming your walk back. Sure, that’s what you would’ve done if Carl hadn’t grabbed your wrist, forcing you to stay in place. “What—”
“Come on, Emma, don’t play difficult,” he smiles widely and it makes you sick. “Look, I know it’s been a couple of years but… I miss you. I miss us.”
You scoff. “You should’ve thought about that before you screwed my fucking boss.”
“Oh, you’re still hurt about that,” he says like you’re someone who keeps talking about the same things over and over again and he’s the friend that has to keep listening to you. “I get it, it was wrong of me. But at least you have a better job now, right? Heard you’re working for the NHL now.”
You don’t try to hide your disgust.
“Where the hell did you ‘hear that’?” you try to remove your arm from his grip, unsuccessful. “Carl, let go of me.”
“Not until you hear me out—”
“Hear you out? You cheated on me—”
“—and understand that I was grieving my grandma’s death—”
“Your grandmother died when you were twelve!” you yell, pulling your wrist. “Carl, let go of my arm—”
“Is everything okay here?” Nico’s voice makes you turn your head around fast, watching as he frowns as he looks to where you and Carl were connected. “Baby?”
“Oh, so he’s why?” Carl hisses, forcing you to look back at him. “You’re his bitch now? That’s why you don’t want me back?”
“Carl—”
“Excuse me?” Nico steps closer to you, putting his hand on top of Carl’s and pulling it away from your arm in seconds, so effortlessly you have to keep the gasp that wants to leave your mouth safe inside. “Get your hands off my girlfriend right fucking now, who the fuck do you think you are?”
“I’m her ex-boyfriend—”
“Then I’ll ask again: who the fuck do you think you are?” Nico gently grabs your hand and moves your body until you stand behind him, his large body blocking almost entirely Carl’s frame. “Don’t fucking piss me off and leave right now.”
“Not until I talk to Emma.”
“Do not fucking say her name, you lost the right to do so. So, how is it going to be? You leave willingly or I punch you in the face?”
“Nico, no—” you whisper, placing your hand on his shoulder.
“Man, you know what? I’m gonna leave. She’s gonna come back crawling to me, and you’ll have to get your dick wet somewhere else.”
You only have time to place your cup on the counter before grabbing Nico’s hand and keeping him away from punching Carl’s face.
“He’s not worth it, baby,” the pet name left your mouth so naturally you don’t even notice it, but Nico definitely does. “Let’s go back, he’s just another asshole.”
Nico turns away and runs his eyes all over you, looking for something. Whatever he is, he doesn’t find it, so he just nods and mutters:
“Du arschloch.”
It makes you laugh, finally feeling all the tension leaving your body. “Yeah. That too.”
𖧷
“ARE YOU sure you’re okay?” Nico asks for the nth time, and you stop walking to look him in the eye.
“I already told you I’m fine. And all thanks to you.”
“I didn’t mean to make a scene,” he pouts, and you smile, cooing at him, wondering how good those lips must feel when—
No.
“You didn’t cause a scene, captain,” you playfully punch his shoulder. “And even if you did, it’s good, okay? Imagine the posts on Twitter: Nico Hischier, the captain of the New Jersey Devils, protects his little, defenseless girlfriend, Emma Roberts.”
“You’re not defenseless.” He laughs.
And I’m also not your girlfriend.
You laugh too.
“It was a fun night,” you sigh, walking towards your apartment door again. He walks by your side, and you hate the way it makes you feel safe. “Not doing it again though.”
“Yeah, me neither. One country music concert is enough for a lifetime.”
“Agreed.”

Zoro's fourth sword
Roronoa Zoro x reader. NSFW!!
Based on this. Oral sex, sub Zoro.
*****
You have been seeing each other -if that is the right word- for little more than a month; neither expected it to happen, it simply did, like it’s often the case with good things. After a night spent drinking saké on the bridge, you ended up making out in the small room behind the kitchen, fierce kisses multiplying as your and Zoro’s hands explored each other’s body. Nothing more happened, but it was intense enough to make your head spin; that time was, and all the ones that followed, almost every day since and sometimes twice before dinner time, whenever the two of you could find a moment away from your crewmates.
You never talked about it; you never felt the need to, at first at least. Until now…
“Here, this is yours.” you announce as you step into the boys’ cabin, a pile of washed and neatly folded clothes in your arms; Zoro, who is sitting on his bed with one of his swords and a rag in his hands, blinks as he lifts his gaze on you, his brow furrowed.
“Is that my stuff?” “Yes, I found it in the basket; I was doing my laundry, I thought I’d wash these as well.”
Zoro grins as he stands, carefully lowering the sword next to the other two on his bed to take his formerly sweat-soaked clothes from your arms. “Thanks, (name), you didn’t have to.”
“I know I didn’t; I just felt like doing you a kindness.” you explain with a shrug; you are not the most romantic of women and talking about feelings usually makes you uncomfortable in the best of cases, but at the same time you see no reason to hide how fond you are and always have been of your friends, including the green-haired swordsman who in the last month has stuck his tongue in your throat more times than you could count, and even had to wear a scarf for a few days -it’s just a cold, no I don’t need help, thanks Chopper- to hide the hickey you had sucked on his neck.
“Well, thank you anyway.”
“No problem. Am I bothering you?”
Zoro shakes his head as he returns to his bed, and his swords, which he is busy cleaning. You sit on the bed in front of his -Sanji’s- and spend the next couple of minutes like this, your knees supporting your elbows, your fingers intertwined under your chin, observing the young man in front of you.
He’s handsome, undoubtedly so, strong and fit and more good-looking than he probably realises, but that is not all; he’s also strong-willed, clever, stubborn, generous, and kind, all characteristics you have always appreciated in a person. You didn’t expect to feel attracted to him, you wouldn’t have imagined it in a million years, but at the same time, now that it has happened you don’t feel surprised at all, much less regretful…
“You are staring at me.” Zoro comments after a while, without looking up; he’s been rubbing the sword’s blade for five minutes.
“Shouldn’t I? You’re very handsome.”
“Damn, (name)...”
“What’s wrong? Zoro, are you blushing?” you ask, amused, and he mumbles something under his breath, once again avoiding your gaze. You can’t help but finding it funny, that a man who has fought the strongest foes without fear and even risked his life to save that of his captain, could feel self-conscious simply because a woman -one he has made out with at least three dozens times, but still- has complimented him, but the last thing you want is to make him uncomfortable, so you decide to change the subject.
“That’s the sword you got in Wano, right?” you ask, observing the katana with its slightly curved blade and golden and lilac-colored hilt; you have never had any interest in swords, but you have to admit it is beautiful.
“Enma, yes.”
“And then there’s the Kisetsu…
“Kitetsu. Sandai Kitetsu.”
“Sorry. And the Wado Ichimonji, which belonged to your friend Kuina.” you conclude, observing the other two blades resting on the bed next to Zoro, already polished to perfection “Are you the only man in the world who uses three swords?”
“That I know of, yes.” Zoro admits with a grin, clearly pleased.
“When I first met you I couldn’t believe you could actually fight with all three together. Then there’s your fourth sword, but that obviously doesn’t count.”
Zoro’s hand finally stops. “... what?”
“Your fourth sword.” you repeat, surprise evident on your face, and you see confusion colour Zoro’s expression as he struggles to understand.
“What are you talking about? I don’t have a fourth sword.”
“Of course you do!”
“No I don’t. (name), is this a joke? I had a couple other swords, the Yubashiri I got in Eines Lobby and the Shusui, but…”
“No, not those.” you patiently explain “Look…”
You stand, covering the brief distance between the two beds in a single step; you gesture to Zoro to stand as well, which he does after placing Enma on the bed once again, and once you are face to face you slowly raise your hand to brush your fingertips against his lips.
Your touch is delicate, feather-like, but Zoro must see something in your gaze, something he appreciates and fears at the same time, because you hear him hold his breath.
“You know…” you continue slowly, and after the chaste caress to his mouth your hand descends to do the same to his chest, a delicate massage to his pecs that makes Zoro’s heartbeat quicken under your palm. Your fingertips not-exactly-accidentally brush against his hard nipples, and he jumps. “Fuck, (name)...”
“I’m talking about…”
Your hand stops at his belt, your gaze searching his for reassurance; this is a line you are yet to cross together, and while you can feel Zoro has already gotten aroused you don’t want to do anything he hasn’t enthusiastically consented to. Your eyes meet; Zoro is clearly struggling to swallow, but he gives you a nod, tiny but determined, wordlessly giving you permission without breaking the illusion you have spun around you both.
You smile, relieved and proud, and let your hand slip even further down, until you reach his pelvis, your palm and fingers gently cupping his already hardened member.
“... this.” you conclude as you caress him, your touch delicate but relentless, and in a moment you can feel Zoro’s flesh responding to your touch “Your most beautiful sword, the most precious, and powerful, and hard - so hard. But this sword is only for me, you understand? No one else can touch it; only me.”
Silence.
“I asked you a question, Zoro. Is this sword for me, and only for me? Answer me or…”
You let go, just an inch, and Zoro hurries to nod. “Yes! Yes, only you.” he mumbles; the great swordsman, one day to become the most powerful in the world, the vanquisher of so many enemies, has disappeared, leaving in his stead a young man desperate for that touch -a woman’s touch- that, he has confessed to you on your third make-out session, he had never experienced before “Only for you, (name). I don’t want anyone else.”
“Good.”
You kiss him, light and gentle. “You wanna close the door?”
It’s the middle of the day, which makes it unlikely that any of the other boys will need to use the room, but one can never be too sure. Zoro almost trips over his own feet as he crosses the room and turns the key of the cabin’s door, effectively locking three of your crewmates, including the captain, out of their room; it is rude, undoubtedly, but at the moment neither of you cares.
There is anticipation, arousal and anxiety at the same time, as Zoro turns and presses his back against the door, waiting for you to join him, which you have done a moment later.
“Do you want to sit on the bed?” you ask, your mouth an inch away from his. There are few things that you enjoy more than kissing Zoro, tasting sakè on his lips as your tongues battle for dominance, but you won’t do it now: at least, not on his lips “You might be more comfortable.”
“Like this is fine.” he mumbles, clearly struggling to meet your gaze; redness has spread on the tan skin of his face, and while he’s not restrained in any way, he’s completely still, arms spread at his sides “Just so you know, I’ve never done this before.” “You told me; but this is not a test, you have nothing to prove.”
“I know, just… In case I don’t last long.”
You smile. “As I said, nothing to prove.” you murmur, and a moment later you have gracefully knelt in front of him, eyeing the now evident tent in his trousers. “Hmm, not that I risk remaining unsatisfied, from the looks of it…”
Zoro gulps as he observes you raising your hand to cup him once more; he’s now completely hard, big enough to barely fit in your palm, and you find yourself licking your lips in anticipation. “Is your fourth sword ready for me, baby?”
“Yes!”
“Good. Now, let’s see…”
You keep your eyes to him as you slowly, very slowly, unbutton his trousers and then lower them down his legs, baring his muscled legs, and a pair of black briefs whose fabric looks a moment away from tearing on the front. You take his cock in your hand once more, tearing a long, guttural moan out of Zoro’s lips as you carefully squeeze it.
“Hmm, what do we have here? Is it a sword or just a tiny dagger?”
“Of course it’s a sword!” Zoro protests, outraged, and a moment later he is biting his lip, well aware he has fallen into your trap “Don’t tease me, (name).”
“I’m sorry, baby. Believe me, I am more than impressed…”
You keep looking at him as you slowly bring your face closer to his body, and then your first kiss is placed on the fabric covering his cock, just above the head; Zoro’s hips spasm, and he “Fuuuck…!” moans.
“You alright?” “Yes… yes… more than alright… Do it again, please…”
You obey, and you spend the next three minutes kissing Zoro’s sword through his briefs, your pecks delicate and gentle but sufficient to make his legs buckle; he has placed a hand on your head, his calloused fingers running through your hair, while you run yours up and down his legs, feeling the taut muscles under his tan skin.
“Feels so good…” he murmurs “Ah… yes, (name), don’t stop…”
You don’t, but then you do, and you hear him whine when you pull back; you share a new look, satisfied on your part and literally pleading on his, as Zoro licks his lips, torn between the desire filling his belly, not to mention another part of his anatomy, and whatever amount of self-respect he can scrape up at the moment.
“I thought you said…”
“I am not leaving you like this, baby.” you reassure him with a smile. You are aroused, very much so, but there’ll be time to take care of your needs; now you’ll see after his, and make sure he never forgets this moment “But I was wondering if you’d like me to take this off you; it might feel better.”
Zoro hurries to take his briefs off, but you stop him, telling him to just relax, and let you take care of him; you take the hem between the tips of your fingers, and then, slowly, agonizingly slowly, you carefully take the briefs off him, letting them fall to the ground.
Zoro’s naked cock is now in front of you in all its glory, large and heavy, soft green hair surrounding the base, its thickness enough to dry your mouth. You swallow, and “Wow…” you murmur, sincerely impressed.
“Is it… good?”
“Are you kidding? Zoro, it’s perfect! It’s really beautiful, just like you are.” you assure him “I’m going to make you feel good, alright? Just tell me if I make you uncomfortable.”
“I will. Just…” “Yes?”
Zoro bites his lip; he looks uncertain all of a sudden, but something in your smile, and your eyes, must reassure him, because he confesses: “Can… can you take your shirt off before you do it?”
“Of course.”
You remove your top, while Zoro does the same with his own shirt without having to be asked, and his gaze immediately falls on your chest; you smile as you cup your breasts in your hands, squeezing and making them bounce slightly. “Do you like them?”
“Fuck…” “That is not an answer, Zoro. Do you like my tits?”
“Yes.” he moans; he licks his lips, eyes burning with desire “They look so soft… so pretty…”
“Glad you approve; I can let you suck on them one day if you want.”
“Fuck, (name)...!”
You smile, and a moment later you are holding Zoro’s cock in your hand; you move it up and down the thick column, a drop of pre-cum already falling from the tip lubricating it, and no matter how much you tell yourself to slow down, because hurrying will ruin both your and Zoro’s pleasure, the mere prospect of having it inside your mouth -not to mention somewhere else, one day- is enough to make you salivate.
Your first kiss touches the tip, while you’re still pumping it, and Zoro jumps. “You were right; it’s way too big to be a dagger.” you murmur “It’s a… what is the largest type of sword?”
“The…” Zoro struggles to speak, and to breathe, as he observes you, eyes wide open, as if he had wandered for a week in the desert and you were a spring of cool, pure water “The… the broadsword, I think… and there are some naginata that are ten feet long…”
“Impressive. But your sword, Zoro, yours is the prettiest of them all… so perfect and strong and long… so beautiful I could kiss it. May I?”
“... yes…”
“I can’t hear you.”
“Yes!” Zoro cries out, loud enough to be heard outside the cabin; he bites his lip, but he’s still smiling “Yes, of course, you can kiss it as much as you want. It’s yours, after all.”
“Good to know.”
You take your time, savouring the sensation of your lips running up and down the thick column of Zoro’s manhood, each of your delicate pecks tearing a moan out of his lips, but it’s only when he feels the silky touch of your tongue on a deliciously large vein that his hips - no, his whole body spasms, a powerful shiver of pleasure running through his flesh. “God…” “Yes, but you can call me (name)...”
Poor Zoro is almost too breathless to laugh, but he does, avidly staring as you keep kissing his cock with abandon, and something akin to pride shines through his gaze. “You like it?”
“Of course I like it. You have…” You have the best cock I’ve ever seen, this is what you meant to say, before deciding you better not; the young man in front of you was already embarrassed at this being his first time, the last thing you want is for him to have to wonder how many people you’ve already made this very experience with.
They don’t matter; he does. He really does, and you want to give him pleasure, enough that he’ll never forget this, enough he’ll think he could die for it.
“... you have a very beautiful cock; I’m very glad I get to taste it.” you finish, and Zoro smiles, before taking your head in his hands, gently caressing your hair, and you smile back at him before you begin licking the head, gently and inexorably titillating it until he’s whining above you, his grip on your head tensing, even though not to the point of hurting you, as if he were mustering all his self-control to remain still, rather than sticking his cock in your mouth.
“Please…”
“Please what, baby?” you ask sweetly as you take advantage of your latest kiss to gently suck
“FUCK!”
“Keep your voice down, Zoro…”
the head; he moans, the gaze of his single eye expressing both arousal and frustration.
“Do it, please. Please, I… I can’t take it anymore…”
“Do what?”
“Damn, woman… you know it!”
“I…” kiss “... really…” suck “... don’t.” you reply, and then you add your tongue once more, and Zoro is forced to steady himself with his hand on your shoulder, because his legs are about to give way “Why don’t you tell me exactly what you want?”
He glares, frustrated and as menacing as a man in his position can be, but a moment later his proverbial strength of character wanes, and his voice is pleading, almost begging, as he says: “Take it in your mouth, (name); take… take me in your mouth. Please, I’ll do everything you want, I swear, just… I need to feel you…”
You smile. “Then you will.” you reassure him “I promise” and then, finally, slowly, part your lips to take him in. It’s a sweet, delicious torture, Zoro’s sword entering your mouth inch by inch, and you’re able to swallow most, but not all, of it, and while right now talking is out of the question you’re able to make him understand you have reached your limit with gestures, and Zoro smiles, openly flattered.
“God, you’re so w-aah, shit…!”
You’ve gotten to work, using your mouth, your tongue and even -very carefully- your teeth to worship Zoro, and his beautiful sword, like he deserves; he tastes good, unexpectedly sweet yet a little pungent, and you happily suck and lick him as the symphony of Zoro’s pleasure -groans, whines, murmurs of your name and pleas of don’t stop, baby, God you feel so good, so warm, I… oh, fuck, just like that…!- fills the air around you. You feel his fingers running through your hair, their touch gentle despite the tension enveloping his body, while your hands move from his hips, which you had placed them on to stabilise yourself, to his buttocks, avidly grabbing the taut mounds of flesh, and Zoro mewls - a sound you had never heard coming from the throat of a grown man, and that makes liquid fire pool in your belly. You will have to quickly retreat to the girls’ cabin soon, making sure Nami and Robin are otherwise occupied, to take care of yourself and imagine how it would feel to have your positions reversed, but now you need to focus on Zoro, and given the way he’s responding to your ministrations, you are confident you are doing an excellent job.
It is almost exhilarating. A powerful pirate, a fearless combatant who has never backed down from a fight and has risked his life more times than he can count, completely in your power, laid bare both literally and spiritually, made a slave of needs and impulses that, you have come to suspect, he had barely paid any attention to before the two of you started fooling around. You are not even really having sex, and most young men his age have experienced much more than just this, but it doesn’t matter; Zoro is literally beside himself, completely at the mercy of you, of your mouth, and of the arousal you have awoken inside him.
It’s scary, almost humbling, that a person can have so deep and overwhelming an effect on another, potentially without being affected themselves; it feels unfair, somehow, even though the last thing you want is to take advantage of Zoro, let alone to hurt him. In that case, you promise yourself, you’ll do your best to make him happy, and make sure he remembers this moment for the rest of his life, even when, if, you won’t be by his side anymore, and why, you suddenly worry, your gentle but relentless pace faltering for a moment, does that thought -the prospect of you and Zoro no longer being together, of him being touched by another woman- hurt so much…?
Zoro notices something is wrong almost immediately. “You alright?” he murmurs, looking down at you; he’s clearly making a superhuman effort to speak intelligibly, but there is sincere worry in his gaze, worry and tenderness, and you’re not entirely sure of how that makes you feel “If you -hnnn- if you want to stop, it’s fine…”
You shake your head -slightly- as you keep licking his cock as if this were the last day of your life. You give a particularly merciless suction that makes Zoro press a hand to his mouth to stifle a scream, and then pull back, freeing his sword from your sheath.
“What…! No, fuck…”
You start pumping him lightly, just to keep him on his toes. “It’s fine; I’m not done with you yet.” you assure him, and you really aren’t; you’ve never been a fan of oral sex in particular, at least when you are not on the receiving end, but what started as a little distraction to please Zoro has quickly become something more, and you’re enjoying it as much as you would if he were the one kneeling at your feet, and this is a thought you’ll have to reflect more attentively later, when you’ll have locked the door of the girls’ cabin behind you “I just wanted to ask where you want to come.”
“... where?”
“Yes. In my mouth or… somewhere else. You know, on my face, or on my tits. I don’t mind either way, the choice is yours.”
Zoro is painting like at the end of a long run; he struggles to swallow, as if deeply torn among the various options. “You… you really wouldn’t mind… swallowing?”
You start pumping him harder. “Not at all, I like it.”
“Then… in your m-mouth. Please…”
A smile blossoms on your lips. Despite his undeniable goodness and generous spirit, sweet is not a word you would normally associate with Zoro, but the last month has led you to reconsider; this is probably a side of him he has never expressed with anyone else, a side maybe even he wasn’t aware of, and you feel blessed, even honoured, that he decided to share it with you. “Of course. Now, I want you to resist as long as you can; you’re so strong, Zoro, so resilient, I know you can do it. Hold it in until you really can’t do it anymore, you’ll see how good it’s going to feel when you finally come.”
“Do I… tell you when…?”
“If you want. Now, are you ready for me, baby?”
He nods, and sighs when you have taken him in your mouth once again. You suck him hard, hard enough your jaw muscles have started to hurt, your hands moving up and down from his hips to his ass to his thighs, and Zoro seems to have forgotten you are on a ship full of people who could, and shouldn’t, hear him, or maybe he has lost the ability to care.
“You feel so good.” he moans “So warm, I… oh, shit, (name), don’t stop, please, baby, use… use your tongue… yes, like that, fuck…!”
It takes him several minutes to reach the brink, when desperation mixed with the pleasure in his voice makes it clear Zoro’s self-control is at its limit; once again you meet his gaze, and you see doubt, even shyness in his.
“Fuck, I’m gonna… baby, please, I can’t…”
You nod once, Zoro’s hips, his whole body really, have a new, violent spasm, and then
“(naaaa-meeeee)...!!”
he’s coming in your mouth, a long sigh of relief filling the air as you, still clinging to his body as if fearing he could slip away, drink him avidly, filling your senses with the acrid but sweet taste of his semen.
*
“Are you alright?”
You’re sitting on the bed, your backs pressed against the wall, as you both catch your breath; the hand towel you have retrieved from Zoro’s side of the closet -he couldn’t move, his legs wouldn’t let him- and that he used to clean himself before pulling his trousers up is abandoned on the floor. You’re still aroused, almost painfully so, and you could easily slip a hand under your skirt to rub yourself to relief -Zoro would surely appreciate the show- but that would mean breaking the quiet, intimate peace surrounding you, and you wouldn’t do that for the world.
The bright mid-morning light bathes the cabin, the gentle rocking of the ship lulling you; you’ve been awake for maybe four hours, but the peace and contentment you feel are so intense you could easily fall asleep like this, your cheek resting on the shoulder of the young man next to you, who without even realising is now holding your hand, for the first time.
“Of course I am.” you murmur, lifting your head to meet his gaze “Never been better, actually; but I should be the one asking. Was it… like you imagined it? As good as you hoped?”
Zoro rubs the back of his head, still a bit embarrassed. “To be honest… I had no idea what this could feel like; but it was… God, (name), it was amazing. I think I died for a moment and you brought me back to life.”
“I gave you mouth-to-cock resuscitation.”
“Oh my God…!”
You laugh together, and then a strong, tan arm slips around your shoulders; you happily snuggle against his side, trying your best not to dwell on the fact that this precious moment has ended, and now you both have to go back to whatever life awaits you out of the door. You and Zoro have been fooling around with each other for a month and nothing says you can’t go on like that for many more -... right? He can’t have gotten bored of you already, after this?- but part of you wishes you could remain like this, just holding each other, for the rest of the day…
“It was good, wasn’t it?”
“Zoro, we already spoke of this, it was not a test, you didn’t have anything to…”
“No, I mean…” he starts and then he bites his lips, as if unsure of how to express what he feels… or afraid of your answer “Was it good for you? I mean, I know this sort of thing is mainly one person doing all the work and the other just enjoying it, but I was wondering if… if it felt nice…”
“Oh, Zoro…”
You cup his face in your hands, tenderness filling your heart. Damn, how could you be so lucky? “It was more than good; it was amazing, because it was you and me, and you took care of me just like I did you.” you murmur softly “Believe me, I am… more than satisfied, and it felt amazing. How could it not, when I’m with you?”
You smile. “And in any case, you promised you would return the courtesy soon, didn’t you?”
“You’ll have to teach me what to do, but I promise I’ll do my best.”
He kisses you soundly; he can taste himself on your lips, and it doesn’t seem to bother him.
You remain together for a while more, until you need to leave to attend to your duties on the ship; you kiss Zoro one last time before standing to retrieve your shirt from the floor.
“You were right.” you comment once you have reached the door, turning to smile at him. “It was a sword, not a dagger; and as formidable and of excellent quality as the other three.”
Zoro grins, openly flattered; a moment later you have turned again, and opened the door, and “We’re reaching a new island tomorrow.” he mentions just as you’re about to step out.
“Yeah, I heard.”
“Do you want to… I mean…”
You’re looking at him again. “Yes?”
Zoro, now sitting on the edge of the bed, looks away, but not quickly enough to prevent you from seeing he has blushed. “We could go somewhere; just the two of us. Have a drink, or… there’s an amusement park, it could be fun…”
A moment of -stunned- silence follows. Then, slowly:
“Zoro… are you asking me on a date?”
“You don’t have to say yes; we can simply go on like we’ve done until now…”
“I’d like that. To go out with you, I mean. I would love to.”
“... really?”
“Of course.” you assure him; happiness has filled your heart, the smile so large on your mouth it hurts “I can’t wait.” “Alright then...”
Zoro grins; he’s even happier than he was ten minutes ago, and doesn’t even try hiding it. “I’ll see you later then.”
“You bet you will.” you answer, and smile before letting the door close behind you.

ever since the attack on Hawkins last year no one has been the same. especially Eddie.
“PLEASE Dustin we have to go please” you shout at him as you watch eddie cut down the only remaining thing connecting the upside to your own Hawkins, your escape, Dustin looks at you with tears welling in his eyes before looking back up through the portal to eddie
“Eddie please stop stop stop please” Dustin shouts to him but eddie continues, moving the mattress you used 30 minutes ago to get into the upside down, he grabs his makeshift shield from where it is nestled on his back
“Eddie what are you doing” you shout to him through sobs
He looks up at you with his signature smirk, that damn smirk that drew you into a long road of friendship in junior year
“I’m buying more time” he says his smirk growing wider before he walks off out of his vine infested trailer
“Fuck this” you say grabbing a nearby chair pulling it over to the middle of the portal you stand on it bracing yourself for the jump
“Y/n what are you doing stop” dustin shouts at you you look down at the boy who in other circumstances you would’ve laughed at the ridiculous costume he was in
“I’m not losing eddie, he…just because he wanted to be a hero I love him Dustin I can’t” you say tears running down your face
you jump.
you hear a snap.
a scream from the other side.
a crash landing.
your head goes dizzy as you try to lift yourself up on your legs, you realise the snap you heard must’ve been your leg as you fell,
“Are you okay” Dustin shouts you look up to nod at him
“I’m okay I’m okay” you say shakily “are you coming” you ask Dustin.
that is how you and dustin end up running over to Eddie’s ripped up body as the demo-bats fall all around you “Eddie” you shout running up to him, you lift him up so you can hold his head in your hands resting it on your lap, his face is bloody his skin it torn open “oh eddie” you sigh as he looks up at you “hay there priss” he says with a smile, priss was a nickname you had acquired from him when he met you in jourin year hanging out with Steve Harrington and Nancy wheeler “Eddie why did you do this” Dustin says to him with a shake of his head “I didn’t run away this time right” he says as his throat gets clogged up with something, making him sound all sniffley, “Eddie come on don’t leave me we just gotta get you to a hospital okay your gonna be fine” you say as your tears start to fall onto his face “aww cmon sweetheart don’t you go crying over little old me” he teases “Eddie stop get up right now” you demand him. “Just give me a second okay one second” he says as his eyes start to drift shut “no no Eddie stay with me stay with me eddie, DUSTIN HELP ME LIFT HIM” you yell and he comes rushing down to his legs “lift on 3.” You day as Eddie’s eyes close fully and his chest stops rising and falling “Eddie cmon I love you don’t leave me yet there’s so much to do, you have to graduate and , you haven’t even kissed me yet you idiot” you say to him as you and dustin attempt to lift his dead weight all the way back into the trailer
“I love you”
that’s the last thing eddie remembers hearing before he woke up in the hospital, you sitting right beside him.
─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ───
Eddie shoots up in his bed, sweat dripping out of all pores he has, chest rising and falling heavily, he has had that dream mostly every night since the day you left. Dustin had told him the story of what happened one night after a DnD game, he keeps seeing you in his head, I love you. I love you. I love you. Plays over and over in his head, his chest starts to get slower he wipes his forehead the sweat coming off it,
5:30am, he looks over to his alarm clock he groans as he swings his legs over the side of his squeaky bed, he’s gonna be up in an hour to leave for work, he runs his hands over his face and up through his messy hair, you always used to trim it for him, let’s just say it hasn’t seen a trim in a good while.
he gets up out of bed and scuffles to the bathroom yawning as he walks, he jumps in the shower the cold water running down his back waking him out, he washes, gets out, and puts on his oli stained overalls over his white tank top before walking to the kitchen to make himself a peice of brunt toast and a disgusting coffee, you always used to cook him breakfast when you’d stay the night after smoking to much or watching to many movies together so you’d fall asleep wit your head on his lap or resting on shoulder, he’d never tell you but he’d always put on one last movie to get you to fall asleep on him.
He gets in the same old shitty van he got when he got his license, the van youd always…he shakes his head to get the thoughts of you out of his head, he pulls into doughs mechanics, an old looking car garage with some tools, the car eddie is currently working on and some other loose bits and bobs thrown around,
“Morning dough” he shouts into the back office with a smile, dough had taken him in when he needed it most. Eddie walks over to continue on the car, counting down the hours he could go on lunch.
─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ───
you sigh into the payphone “I know Nancy, I know” you say trying to sound as little as annoyed as possible
“You can stay here!! my mum misses you so much and so do I, we all do” she says excitedly down the phone her voice coming out staticly “are you sure i would hate to intrude” you say
“Yes please I’m sure” she begs you
“Okay okay” you chuckle “does uh anyone know I’m coming…or like have you told anyone” you ask her awkwardly
“I haven’t told anyone except Robin cause she busted my ass about it for days, you know how she is” she says you both laugh “okay well do you think we could keep it a secret I’m only stopping in to see hopper, I’m not there to stay” you wy loud and clear she chucheks
“Sure y/n I won’t tell Eddie.” She laughs you roll your eyes
“shut up nance”
“Bye, y/nnnnn” she drags out you can hear her smile come though as she speaks
“Bye nancyyyyyyyyy” you do it back to her before you take the phone down onto the receiver with a click
you didn’t wanna do this, you never wanted to come back to Hawkins but after you heard hopper was actually alive from some government shit you aren’t really sure you stopped keeping track when you left, that man was like a father to all you kids, you thought you had to come back and say hi, you didn’t wanna see anyone, especially eddie.
you shake your head and jump back into your car to continue, you have about 3 hours drive left and it’s 8:30am. you hope to get there around lunch time, uou put your sunglasses on turn your mixtape roll the window down, and put your foot on the gas, driving into Hawkins your home, the home you left.
─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ───
“Hay Ed’s you can go on your break” dough yells out to him eddie comes up from underneath the car wiping grese on his forehead and overall
“Thanks dough, be back soon guys” he says to the rest of the guys in shop before walking out of the garage and to his car, he needs to go to the store to buy some more cigarettes a special kind of tape and some sort of fast easy food to make for dinner, he gets into his van, takes his hair down, plays his mix tape, rolls the window down and syarts to drive to the store. It’s not to far from the shop just about 5 minutes, it’s 11:45 so he’s got an hour till he has to be back
he taps on the steering wheel along to Metallica as he pulls into a car spot, he sees a car drive that you once drove well your parents did but you would steel it to sneak to his house, he watches the car as it drives past he shrugs it off, you left. It’s not your car.
he walks into the convince store and sees Joyce working the register, they came back to Hawkins after all the stuff that went down will el and some girl back in los angles, they don’t really talk about it,
“Hay Mrs.wheerler” he says with a bow as he walks past the register “hay eddie you on your lunch break sweetie” she asks with a smile on her face “yes ma’am how was your morning” he asks as he looks through the microwave food section “it was alright will mike and Dustin were being crazy as usual” she says with a smile, he laughs as he grabs a tin of microwave spaghetti and walks over to the register “ahh yes those crazy kids will drive you mad if you let them” he jokes as they both laugh, “hand me a pack of those camels too please” he asks as she scans the both of them, they say their goodbyes as he walks out of the store and down th street to family video, the bell on the door rings as he steps in, he can hear the sound of Robin and steve bickering about god knows what, that’s comforting as that if the state they are normally found in, he laughs as Steve turns to him his eyes go wide “oh uh hi Eddie” he stumbles out awkwardly causing Robin to elbow him in the side
“Eddie what are you doing here aren’t you meant to be I don’t know Iike working” robin says raising her eyebrows, eddie furrows his own eyebrows “I’m on my lunch break and came to get a tape, what’s up with you too your being more weird then normal” he asks as he leans his elbows on the desk they are stood behind “no no we are good, Steve is just, been smoking to much weed” she says sounding unsure even if her own words eddie nods “freaks” he laughs out as he walks into the adult section of the store, eddie knows it’s gross to do this but he can’t help it he hasn’t had any interest in anyone real since well…you, but he lost that chance plus jerking it to the thought of you every night alone in bed might even be more gross then watching this shit
that’s how he thinks of it anyways as he picks a tape off the shelf with a women on the front, no it doesn’t look like you, that’s just a coincidence, she’s got her legs spread with no shirt of but a blakeny covering her core and her hands covering her tits, he shrugs settling for it before walking back out of the curtain and tonthe front again, he sees Robin smacking Steve again “why are you being weird act natural he’s not supposed to know” she mutters Eddie’s ears spike up at that, who’s not meant to know what?
“I know but I couldn’t help it, he should know that she is bac-” he is cut off but eddie jumping in
“Who’s not meant to know what” he asks casually they both jump and look at him their faces scream of someone who’s been caught with their hand in the cookie jar Robin chuckles
“I don’t know what your talking about” she says quickly eddie raises his eyebrows “rightttt”he says unconvincingly, Steve grabs the tape from under his arm “oo dude really, again” he teases “shut up Harrington I’m going through a dry spell” he says putting his head down in fake shame,
“Ew” Robin whispers before walking away to stack something behind the counter
Steve laughs “yeah I wonder why” he rolls his eyes eddie looks back up at him confused “what do you mean” Eddie says with a dry chuckle
“I mean…I’ve only ever seen you been interested in one person before” Steve says scanning the item, making a beep sound “and who would that be big boy” Eddie says teasingly Steve grabs a bag placing the tape into it
“You know who I mean, it was her.” He says plainly eddie rolls his eyes
“Yeah well, look how that turned out, plus that’s not even true” Eddie reaches to take the bag “we were friends, just friends” he finishes
“Sure Eddie that’s why she saved your life” he jokes with a wink eddie rolls his eyes
“Thanks for the tape Steveie” Eddie says as he turns his back
“Yeah enjoy your hand tonight lonely boy” he yells back as eddie exits out the door, he’s to busy laughing to even see a person in front of him
─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ─── † ཐི❤︎ཋྀ † ───
you drive into the familiar street of Hawkins Center, it’s got the shops, the restaurants the bars, well the ones you take your family too not the kind of bars where they have live rock bands on a ….. night, you drive around down the long lines of different shops, the cars in the parking spaces take up room, you wanted to stop into the shop and get some groceries and a preset for Nancy, Mike, hopper, el, and mrs& mr wheerler, you drive down the street trying to find a park when you suddenly see a van up ahead of you that looks exactly look a van you spent so many days and nights in, so many hours spent, years spent, in that van, it pulls into a parking spot you watch it for a moment, it couldn’t possibly be him, he probably sold it for money or something, let’s of people have vans you shake your head to rid the thoughts of him that continue to plague your mind, just like they have since u met him, you end up finally finding a park near enough to the shop, you go to the glove box to pull out a pack of smokes, a habit eddie got you into, sometimes you smoke just to smell the smell that would linger on eddie when you were younger, you go to grad the pack but a photo falls out of the glove box and onto the floor, the back is labeled
1986 march, rockstar xx
You furrow your eyebrows and pick up the old Polaroid photo, you turn it over and your eyes are instantly shut with the photo you see, it’s a back and white photo of eddie with his gituar you are next to him your elbow resting on his shoulder, him towering over you in height, he always had to lean down to hear you in loud crowds, you are pulling a fake bored face but you can see the smile you are trying to conceal while he is sideiying you with a tight liped smile, also trying to conceal the happiness on his face, it was after a show at the hideout, you would always tag along to the shows, he was always a natural, you don’t even realise your crying until a tear slips into the photo your holding you flitch, you continusily blink away the tears and shove the photo back I where it came from, you light your smoke and hop out of the car beginning the walk to the grocery store, you wonder if Joyce is working there again after getting back for America
Turns out she is working there, you walk in and see her, her face lightens up at seeing you, running over to you and enclousing you in a tight hug “y/n what are you doing here honey” she says excitedly you chuckle “just visiting I’m here to see hopper are el” you say Joyce pulls away from the hug and looks at you, “aww they would love that, you look beautiful you look like a grown up” she jokes, you laugh at the fact it’s only been a year “so you have somewhere to stay I know the boys would love to see you” she asks you with a smile you nod “I’m actually staying with Nancy she’s kinda the only one who knows I’m back wellaprrt from you and robin” you explain to the woman she nods “well it’s so good to see you what brings you in today” Joyce asks with a bright smile you could place in so many memories of your younger years, you smile back “looking for just you know groceries and some gifts for some people I plan to visit” you say she nods “how long are you here for”
you look to the floor “only a couple of days” you shrug she sighs “that’s okay sweetie we are just happy to see ya at all” she says in a soft voice “thank you Joyce, you’ve always been so kind” pulling her into another hug you hold it for a while just appreciateing the feeling of comfort and familiarity it brings you, after a couple minutes you scoured the shelf’s for some gifts picking up little trinkets and such, you walk over to the microwave food section looking at the options, you sigh at the bleak options but your eyes land on the shitty spaghetti in a tin, it is so familiar, the smell of it filling Eddie’s Trailer as you danced around the kitchen together or smoked on the couch or just the days where Wayne would make you guys eat something other then just sitting in bed together all night, you smile lightly as you grab it and put it into your basket before walking to the cash register
Joyce scans all your items “on the house” she says as you reach out to pay “Joyce no.” You say sternly she tuts “on the house kiddo” she says with a wink you sigh with a smile “your to kind to my Joyce” you says putting the money back into your wallet “get outta here kiddo you got people waiting” she says with a smile you smile back “thank you Joyce, for everything”
You walk out of the shop your bag of groceries in hand, you start to walk to family video, thinking you and nacy could have a movie night like old times, you continue walking as you reach into your handbag to pick out a smoke and your lighter, you are walking and don’t even see the person in front of you before your shoulder is being knocked, the bag of groceries falling to the pavement below. you hear another loud click of other things falling on the ground you grunt in pain as you stumble back
“Shit” you say loudly “im so sorry” you say immediately bending down to pick the stuff up off the floor not making eye contact or looking at the person infront of you out of pure embarrassment
“No no don’t be it was my fault I wasn’t looking, are you okay” you hear the voice above you say softly walk bending down to pick things up, you stop in your tracks.
You know that voice, it’s him. it’s your eddie.
you look up seeing the mop of hair on the man’s head, yep definitely eddie.
you stutter out a string of nosieswjilw trying to find something to say
“Eddie…?” You mutter quitly
you watch him freeze infront of you.
He looks up and tou make eye contact with the man who broke your heart in 1986.
his eyes go wide “y/n” he breathe out in shock, you rush to stand up, holding all the things now in your hand, “i have to go” you say quickly starting to turnaround, you feel a grip on your wrist “wait y/n please just wait” he begs, you close your eyes you know you will all into his mhm you always have, your a bag craight in his spider web no matter how hard you try to squirm your way out of it, he consumes you, he eats you alive until your a shell of what you were before you met him, the worst part is that you let him, you want him to. you always have and it’s clear apart of you always will as you let yourself stop to turnaround to face him once again.

Is this another dream, am I dreaming, am i dead, is this some alternate universe again, all these thoughts swam Eddie’s head as he sees your frame infront of him.
my day was normal it was fine, the continus loop of the life i live was going great until I had to go to that store had to leave at that time, had to do all the things i did so that we would both end up here at the same time, until i bumped into her. Eddie thinks this as he watches you slowly turn around, he is shitting himself thinking this is a dream “is this a dream” he mutters out to himself
“Hi eddie” she says to me and i look her in her eyes and I know right then I’m not dreaming. all the feelings of our past. The long nights the dreams we shared the love we had for eachother, the love he had for you that was much deeper then you could’ve known, the day you left, the way his heart broke after you told him you were leaving as he dropped you home watching you cry as he saw your face for the last time, it all hits him like a bus as he looks into your eyes.
“Hi y/n” i say Back in a low voice it’s silent for a monent both of us unclear of what to say to eachother “why are you back” i ask her, it may have come out a bit more aggressive then i meant it too she rolls her eyes at me, some things never change, “I’m just visiting eddie” she says blankly with no emotion i nod “oh what’s so important that’s got you back after you left us all” i say,
okay yes I’m letting my emotions effect me but she deserves it she left not me.
she chuckles dryly “seeing hopper” Is all she says to me “seems like he’s important to you, wouldn’t of guessed it by the way you acted you know leaving people when things get tough and all” i quip at her, her jaw clenchs and she blinks heavily “Eddie stop it” she demands but my days of listing to her are over.
“No y/n you left. and you don’t get to show up here like nothing happened or like you can just put up into our life’s when you feel like it after breaking us, we all needed you i needed you i…” he cuts himself off, he clears his throat “we loved you, and we weren’t enough for you this wasn’t enough for you so why is it now huh” Eddie snaps at you.
you stand back in shock looking at the man infront of you, his hairs gotten longer he needs a hair cut.
“Eddie I wasn’t even meant to see anyone else except them okay trust me I didn’t want this” I say back sternly “oh trust me I know you didn’t want this” he says immediately as he raises his finger to gesture back and frouth between the two of you, “Eddie please stop” she asks me in a soft voice
“no. It’s been a year and you still haven’t even rolls me why you left hm why you ask fed me and this town why you left when I needed you after everything we had been through after saving my goddamn life you up and left why.” I say rasing my voice at her
I’ve never done that before she shakes her head at me “I left eddie because I fucking loved you. I loved you since the day in junior year when you let me use you let me use your stupid pen in class then didn’t stop bothering me and Nancy the rest of the day, I loved you when I wasn’t supposed to, and I loved you when I watched you basically commit suicide by going back there the night, I loved you when I dragged your dead body in my arms and I loved you when you never loved me back, and almost losing you made me realise I had to move on, seeing you in Hospital after that made me realise that I can’t wait all my life for you to love me. I couldn’t back then and I can’t now. I left because you almost died my best friend who I was in love with died. and I couldn’t bear the fact the after the accident he might not have come back as himself so yeah I left call me a coward hate me for the rest of you life if that’s what you want to do, but eddie it was because I love you.”
She spills her guts to him on the middle of a public pathway, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes, she tell me everything but all I can hear is
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I freeze looking at her tears threaten to spill out of my own eyes “y/n what..” I say in shock “that’s why I didn’t tell you” she says to me sadly
“I wish you didn’t leave” Eddie says, “I wish you didn’t leave because I never got the chance to tell you that I loved you. I loved you the first day or junior year when you walked into class with Nancy in your pink sweater and the front of you hair clipped behind your head, when you walked past me for a second and smiled at me, that was 3 weeks before the pen thing I have loved you since the first time I saw you, literally, and I didn’t tell you because I was scared and then when I was going to tell you I was being framed for a murder and found out I could die at any second after that, so yeah god forbid I didn’t wanna die after saying I love you, then I wouldn’t get to hold your hand down the street, I wouldn’t get to cuddle you on movies not in a romantic way, I wouldn’t get to make love to you, I wouldn’t get to spend the rest of my life with you, I went back in there to save you. I heard the others talking that night about how you were next if it didn’t work with max. he was coming after you. I went in to save you. Because I love you and then you left before I even got out of hospital”
I spill my guts to her aswell, fuck it shes only visiting what’s the worse that could happen, “ you were my best friend y/n, my best friend.” I say plainly to her with a tear streaming down my face
“and you were mine” she says looking at me “you still are mine there’s not a day where I don’t think about you eddie, you consume me.” She continues
“I never stopped loving you even if it’s to late now even if I leave again, I still love you.” She says crying even harder now
“I think about you too I dream of you, and that night every night since you left, I still love you even if you leave again” I say back to her
we are both crying on the public sidewalk, we look crazy. She doesn’t say anything else before she runs up and hugs me, the sent of her perfume surronds me just like it did those years ago, her embrace feels like coming home after a long time away, she is home, I. Hug her back even tighter not wanting to let her go again
“I love you” I say first
“and I love you” she says against my chest.
I pull her away. “Don’t leave this time please just try it out with me, even if it doesn’t work I still miss my bestfriend, we all do” I beg her she shakes her head
“Eddie I have no where to stay” she says to me sadly I smile at her “stay with us, Wayne would love to see you again, I’ve got a job I’m making stable money, stay.” I say holding her hands in mine, she laughs at me
“Eddie Munson you are just as crazy as I remeber” she says with a smile, I grin back at her a wide smile that I haven’t felt since she left. Before I can say anything she’s pulling me into a kiss, her lips are on my and I think I pass out, this is all I’ve wanted forever, she’s all I’ve wanted. I kiss her back passionately like she might disappear again if I stop, she’s so soft she’s perfect, she’s mine. We reluctantly pull away from eachother with smiles and cheeks covered in blush,
“You smell like gasoline” she whispers, we Both Start to laugh as I nod again
“yes I’m technically overtime on my lunch right now” I say raising my eyebrows her eyes widen “Eddie what go now hurry” she says with her eyebrows furrowed “well I would but I have to ask you something” I say to her she nods as a sign of me to confines “what are you doing later today” she blushes. “Seeing hopper after this then nothing I’m staying with Nancy” I explain to him “perfect I know the address hang out with me again just like we used to?” He asks you with a soft look in his eyes, you smile with a nod
“Sounds like a plan” you say
“Sounds good” he pauses “priss”
you both chuckle “get to work mr. I’m making stable money” you mock him he rolls his eyes as lifts his hands up to his chest “ you wound me, okay see you tonight” he double checks you nod “bye eddie” you say the same words you said the day you left, “see you later priss” he says walking off
you are so happy you nearly register you are still holding all your crocuses you looki down to check you have everything when you realise you are holding a tape but it is definitely not your tape, you roll your eye at the nude lady on the cover, eddie.
“Eddie” you tell our to him from down the street he looks back at you confused “you forgot something” you say back he comes jogging over to you, you hold out the tape with your eyebrows raised.
“your Precious tape sir” you tease he looks down and laughs “what can I see been on a dry spell” he jokes “your disgusting as ever” you say your eyes squinting in disgust “c’mon priss you know a guys gotta have his ways, and my way has been gone for over a year so forgive me for needing help” he teases as he grabs it from you, you blush like crazy as you grasp what he’s saying “freak” you say with a smile “some things never change” he winks at you
You say your goodbyes, again, and as you walk back to your ca you start to feel like maybe this was for this best, your also thinking get to nancys now. you have nothing to wear tonight.

Eddie is forever grumbling about “losing” his shirts, storming out of their room and flopping dramatically on the couch, declaring his favorite shirt is gone forever, it was there one minute and now it’s just gone. Gone gone gone!
And Steve will sigh and say it can’t be lost, shirts don’t just get up and walk out and Eddie will say this one did! all but harrumphing. So Steve will go in their room, look through the same pile of shirts Eddie looked through a moment ago, and come back out, holding it up, saying “this shirt?”
And Eddie will say it wasn’t there when he looked and they’re all black, it was camouflaged, and take the shirt half-annoyed, half-sheepish and murmur something about how there’s definitely a shirt stealing gremlin living in their walls that takes Eddie’s shirts then puts them back for Steve to find and make Eddie look like an idiot
And Steve will roll his eyes and try not to smile knowing it will happen again and again. And some days he finds it amusing, others annoying, but it’s all part of living together
#steddie#Steve x eddie#steddie headcanon#Eddie munson#Steve harrington#brought to you by me being convinced I lost my softest Metallica shirt for the last two days#and then finding it right where I’d already looked lmao#Steve definitely does this too and doesn’t have the excuse of most of his clothes being black :P#or he does the where are my glasses thing when they’re on his head lol#we’ve all been there right?#also why did I write most of this in future tense except a couple of sentences in present ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#alsooooo sorry if someone’s written something similar!!!#i had a vague feeling after posting someone might have 🙈😫#pizzaqueentxt#pizzaqueenfic
