i’m so sorry for this but, i can’t be happy for the mutant mayhem TV series . will it be great? probably. will i still watch it? absolutely.
but am i happy about it? not in the slightest.
this solidifies that rottmnt will not be released to its fullest potential. there will not be more seasons.
i am sad. they won’t be the same. this is my favorite version of tmnt and i’m so glad to have seen it. the representation was fantastic and i had never felt more seen then when they all just accepted donnie’s clearly nero-divergent tendencies.
i will miss rottmnt and i will be thinking about it the whole time i watch the new show.

Jax Teller tags
Jax ✖ (Aesthetics)
Jax ✖ (Thoughts)
Jax ✖ (Character Development)
Jax ✖ (Crack)
Jax ✖ (Headcanons)
VERSES:
V: Rebellion is the only thing that keeps you alive [Teen Jax] - After the death of John Teller and even before, Jax is definitely a rebellious teenager. He doesn’t handle his father’s absence, death and his mother remarrying well. He finds love and that is something that helps him focus, but other than that, he get into trouble a lot and enjoys it.
V: The Prince Prospects [Jax as a Prospect] - Jax may be the Prince of Charming, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have to Prospect like everyone else. He has to learn to serve the guy his mom married, someone he’s always known. His hot headed temper leads him and others into trouble, along the way.
V: All I ever wanted was a Harley and a Kutte [Pre-Show SAMCRO Jax] - Jax patches in, like was expected and his life revolves around club life, women and crime. It’s easier to not commit to women than deal with not being over the one who left. But, that doesn’t mean that he spends all his time pining away or anything like that.
V: Some days you’re the beamer, some days you’re the goddamned deer [Season One] - Jax is the VP of SAMCRO, Opie’s out of prision, Tara’s back in town, and his kid was born way too soon because of his junkie mom. There’s always a bunch of shit as Jax deals with feeling like shit matters more, now that he’s got a kid.
V: I’m not the one out there murdering women! [Season 2] - After the death of Opie’s wife, Jax finds himself at odds with Clay, as they deal with a new group and Ethan Zobelle. He tries to balance it all, but finds himself wanting to be away from Clay and then seeking revenge for his mother.
V: It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better [Season 3] - If Jax thought things were a mess before, there even worse now. The Irish stole his son and he doesn’t know how to get him back. He struggles with self-destructing and having to go to Ireland. There’s no one who self-destructs quite like Jax Teller.
V: I know you killed my father [Season 4] - Fresh out of prison, Jax has goals that are more than being a part of SAMCRO. He wants to get his family out of this and makes a deal with Clay how to do so. But old secrets and lies may keep that from happening as more things grow out of control and Jax finds himself torn between what’s best for his family and what’s best for his chosen family.
V: You can’t sit in this chair without being a savage [Season 5] - It’s a new era of SAMCRO. Jax is President and wants to do things differently. But something shocks him to the core and takes away part of his heart, something that he’ll never get back. Dealing with the fallout is difficult and Jax learns the weight of being the King of SAMCRO.
V: My self-hate is so deep, so palpable [Season 6] - Things just keep getting worse. Jax’ marriage is a mess. The problems with the Irish seem to be getting worse all the time and he finds himself falling deeper and deeper losing his vision, and wondering what the brotherhood even is.
V I’m sorry that the family I was given has created so much chaos in the family I’ve chosen [Season 7] - Jax wanted to do what he could to protect the club, but he’d never imagined the horrors of what happened at the end of season 6. Facing being a widowed father, he is a self-destructive mess, taking his anger and grief on anyone gets in his way. Mistakes are made and consequences have to be paid.
V: The crow no longer speaks to me [Surviving AU] - Thought it is near impossible that it happened this way, Jax survives what happens at the end of Papa’s Goods. It takes him a long time, and the fallout from his emotional point at that time is still address. He’s not sure what happens now.
V: Soar on my Wings [Canon Divergent AU] - Instead of going down 580, Jax found himself going up to Norco, meeting Wendy and Nero up there. Now, he’s got to decide if hiding out is worth it. What will his life mean now, and can he salvage the relationships he wants to?
V: He sees all my sins, He reads my soul [Time-jumps] - Time periods of various time jumps.
Bio already on CARRD

Hello! I'm new to writing fanfic, and I'd like to write about DMC it's just– I have some questions I didn't know who else to ask. If you're comfortable sharing, do you have a beta reader for your fics? How do you know what tags to use? Or the rating?
As you might have realized, I only know how to put the words on the file. Sorry if this is too much.
Hey there! Thanks for asking! I...honestly don't have a beta. I'm actually terrified to put my story out for editing. Not because I dislike critiques (okay... maybe a little) but I'm always worried that I'll be imposing on them, and forcing them to try to make sense of whatever the heck I just wrote. That being said, a beta reader is great to have, if you can find one. If you want someone to proofread, but don't have one, run your story through a text to speech website to help you catch any grammatical errors.
As for tags: A must-have is the pairing, if there is one. If it's a romantic, make sure you have 'x' between the characters names, or if its non-romantic, use '&' instead. For example: A story where Dante and Vergil argue over who was supposed to pay the water bill would be 'Dante & Vergil', but perhaps a story about Nero and Kyrie making Nico retch with how lovey dovey they are would be 'Nero x Kyrie'. Try not to get those confused, or you'll give out the wrong impression on what your story's about. Also, if there's more than one romantic relationship going on, only tag for the 'main' one. And if there's no romantic relationship, or it's an incredibly minor part of the story, you can choose 'gen' as the category.
Then, you want to include the genre, Adventure? Angst? Romance? Slow Burn? ...Smut? Of course you're not limited to just one genre. If it's an AU, make sure you mention it, as well as what type of AU it is, such as 'canon divergence, Vergil doesn't fall into Hell'
Also, if you are putting in dark topics like major injury, or phobias such as spiders, you can put in a warning about it, although try to keep it as basic as possible, to not spoil the plot.
As for ratings: If there's smut, automatic Explicit. Dark topics, go for mature, and if its a fluffy friendly story about Dante trying to convince the local pizza place to extend his tab, you can go for general. When you can't choose which rating to use, pick the higher one. It can't hurt.
I hope that helps!
#muzz may muse#I hope you were talking about Ao3 tags#cuz if you weren't...#well this would be awkward lol

What are the district 2 victors sexualities, if you don't mind me asking?
with the caveat that granular sexuality labels are not a thing in D2, so the characters may or may not identify the way we would --
Petra: very very gay, but winds up in a threesome with both Selene and Dash and decides not to stress about it
Claudius: trauma-induced asexual, potentially into both but after the Arena and some iffy consent things it pretty much kills his sex drive. in some universes (Victor Selene) he gets it back, in some (canon divergence) he doesn't, though he has a committed relationship even so. in non-THG universes without that trauma he's bi and pretty chill
Enobaria: my version is ace, is it the Arena, was she always, who knows! she is now, though
Devon: 100% gay but everyone thinks he's bi because he's so good at flirting. in a long-time committed relationship with Misha but they both have sex with other people
Misha: exactly the same, full-on lesbian but romantically attached to Devon. if you tried saying anything like "biromantic homosexual" she'd say "gesundheit"
Lyme: straight, incredibly angry about it at first, but now she's cool with it. not interested in romance, but has her regulars because you need a certain level of trust for kink
Emory: not interested in anybody, never has been, and is perfectly fine with it. in the Benka & Ansi universe, Benka (fantasy version of Emory) winds up platonic life-partners with Ansi (fantasy Misha) and this is my favourite thing
Brutus: so straight, like he tried the 'Centre phase' and it did nooooot work for him.
Nero: probably like ... 90% into women, but there are a few men he'd flip for. he refuses to tell who and Misha and Devon lose their minds trying to figure out his type
Callista: yes.
Flint: SORRY DUDE I DON'T KNOW, gay? Did I abandon the gay one? the homophobia...
Hera: I........ don't...... know, actually. but thinking about the vibe I'd say she's into both? not that she EVER does anything about it EDIT: @dauntless-sakura has reminded me Hera is ace
Odin: he turns men down with incredible tact and grace for a guy who insists on holding the door
Adessa: would call herself 'sapiosexual' unironically. congrats, Beetee
Caius & Luna I have no idea!
Ronan I also don't know, he flirts with men AND women and everyone is attracted to him but he's never actually had a relationship and he keeps everything so close to the vest that I .... have no idea. I feel like he is actually into women, hypothetically, but there's so much pain down that road that he just shut that part of himself off

Yooo, this is an occasionally canon divergent blog for Itachi Uchiha from the Naruto series. Indie, semi- selective, multiverse, multiship, low-med activity. I am highly selective about following OCs. Minors do not follow/ interact.
I'm Nero, they/them, GMT and I'm old (30+). Multi para, literate and I try to match length but don't expect the same from rp partners. Sometimes I have a lot to say and sometimes I don't. It's all good. My reply speed is anything from 3-14 days. I'm very slow.
This is a side blog so anon asks will happen. I will follow from @misanthropiq. Don't be alarmed if it turns up on your follow list. You do not have to follow my main blog for me to consider us mutuals. Following this one is enough.
If you adhere to standard rp etiquette we should be fine: don't be rude, trim your posts, no force shipping, godmodding, metagaming, etc. Do not mix other people's verses with mine without prior discussion. Do not mix any of my verses full stop. Do not write your character into my character's backstory without contacting me about it first. I'm not a fan of drama and will quietly softblock if I see it happening often.
When sending asks please specify if you want Itachi from a certain timeline, otherwise I'll choose which version you get and it's like opening pandora's box. I do tend to pick a canon verse if left unchecked. Akatsuki is my go to. My many verses are accessible via desktop, have a look if you want something canon divergent (I’m working on a google doc, albeit slowly).
If certain themes in Naruto make you uncomfortable (kidnapping, abuse, murder, brainwashing, war, genocide, child soldiers) don't follow. Kisame x Itachi will feature on this blog. If you dislike age gaps, don't follow. Curate your own tumblr experience.
Nsfw stuff with underage muses/ muns is a no. Incest is a no. Apart from that I'm open to most things (ask if it's something really out there) including gore, violence and sex. For this reason I will ask again for minors not to follow me.
Please have rules/ bios I can access via mobile, otherwise I won’t follow back. I’m on mobile 90% of the time and if I don’t read the rules/ info of new followers straight away, I will not remember to do so when I’m eventually on my laptop. I prefer using that small window of time to work on drafts.
I feel like I should mention that activity will be sporadic and I will occasionally wander off for long periods of time. My spoon supply is low.
I've added my prompts tag below for ease of access. I encourage sending things in to start off interactions. It's the best way to get me started. I'm an introvert so I dont tend to reach out first (sorry). I'm not too great at plotting but feel free to run ideas past me.
Personals, for the love of god please don’t reblog role-plays and headcanons. I will hit block faster than you can say ‘nero what?’ There are no second chances.

Here’s something I ought to update my bio with whenever I feel Motivated enough to do so. It deals with V’s link to Vergil and how said link affects V’s health and behavior throughout the course of the game. I am in the process of retouching some bits of my interpretation.
More precisely, at the moment of Vergil separating man from devil, V is performing astral projection in an attempt to define his first premonition of the Qliphoth. It is at this moment when spiritual and supernatural energies are at their peak that Vergil’s discarded dregs are picked up psychically by V’s roaming spirit. By no will nor intention of their own, the two come into close enough contact that V’s overpowering humanity more or less absorbs Vergil’s feeble tatters. Humanity drawn to humanity, this half of Vergil essentially occupies V’s subconscious, thus using him as a vessel temporarily. Urizen is still born as normal, but V is quickly snapped back to his own space and time. Jarred but unaware of the attachment, he starts to see, feel, and remember things that are unknown to him. Small note: Nightmare cannot block Vergil out because Vergil is not any kind of dream.
(I’m sorry about the very neat symbolism in Vergil’s nightmares serving as visual, "living” metaphors in the form of V’s familiars still not surviving my canon divergence, but I gotta make myself happy over here.)
Vergil’s memories are revealed to V gradually and in brief glimpses, so V cannot make sense of the majority of what he comes to call visions. However, he does come to learn of the name “Vergil” through inexplicable thoughts early on, which is how he is able to tell Dante the name of the demon who has resurrected. He still has no idea who Vergil is or what he means to Dante. V cannot rightly explain how he knows what he does, which injures his credibility and leads to very much skepticism. Thus, he tells no one of the strange visions he has. As the month waiting for Nero passes and the game’s events progress, V feels more of Vergil’s feelings, thinks more of Vergil’s thoughts, and it’s slowly but surely leading to a series of identity crises because V starts to seriously doubt who is running his mind. Vergil bleeds through V’s actions as well, such as when he expresses inexplicable hostility toward the Proto Angelo (”What evil lurks I must destroy") and when he pretends to run the Sparda through Dante, to name a few examples. This shared subconscious enhances V’s dichotomous nature, making it appear as though he has a split personality altogether.
But because Vergil’s human flesh was dying and all of his human qualities have been left to die, this unfortunately reflects itself through V’s body. But it isn’t merely illusion: he’s “infected” with Vergil’s condition, so he’s very genuinely dying as well for as long as he harbors Vergil’s dregs. Because Vergil’s humanity knows the only way to set things right is to fuse both halves back together, he suggests this to his vessel (V) through pure instinct. V doesn’t know how he knows what he knows; he simply knows, or has a good hunch, and has little choice but to follow. It becomes evident at some point I’ve yet to determine that Vergil is the one influencing him so strongly. In any case, V ultimately makes it to Urizen and deals the killing blow believing fully that he will die then and there. However, as his cane breaches the demon’s “core,” his own powerful sense of humanity carries Vergil’s willing residue down the mysteriously conductive metal into the core of the demon, and man reunites with devil. The halves reform the whole, and as V is blown back unconscious (but alive and healed), Vergil is reborn.
(Vergil’s human dregs, while occupying V, were not strong enough to hold on to any new memories made during their time with V. So, Vergil would actually have no idea all the hell that he put V through. Also, no, the book is V’s and as such remains with him. Canon’s just gonna have to fuck.)
It’s really an unfair set of circumstances, so you can imagine V would be quite sour (i.e. angry) with Vergil for, one, making all the mistakes he had over the course of his life that led up to the moment he cast aside his humanity; and for, two, occupying V’s mind and body as a vessel and very vaguely leading them both to meet with Urizen so Vergil could restore his full form; and, of course, three, for nearly killing the unfortunate warlock. The latter sucks the most. Oh, and also for nearly driving him to insanity. Yeah, Vergil has even more shit to answer for! He took an innocent bystander hostage and messed with his mind and body because guilt and survival demanded that he right his wrong and defeat the demon within. But it’s okay, because V’s unscathed at the end of it all. He’s relieved to be all one consciousness again. Memories of Vergil’s memories will have largely faded, I feel, upon coming to.
#headcanon ;#// This honestly feels so right to me so I'm making it my canon.#// Something a little less extremely canon divergent so some canon things can be explained as well asjsnkjsdfg.

Silver Rose [Vergil/Reader] {Devil May Cry} Umbral Angelo
AN: I managed to finish this one in record time, and am already working on the next chapter. I’m intending the next chapter to be a bit of a dive into V and Vergil’s mentality, so it’s going to be a bit tricky to write... and a bit long. (If you take a look into my masterlist, I’ve already titled the next chapter “Bury the Light” so I’m going to try extra hard to make the next chapter worthy of the song.)
On another note: I’m probably going to start using my handwritten banner for this series from now on. I’ve noticed that gifs are rather intense for loading on certain devices/internet speed... and I’m tired of looking for appropriate gifs to use. I may end up changing the banner once I get photoshop or something >.>
If you like the content I create, please consider donating to my Ko-fi! Please help me feed my tea addiction!

- V’s POV -
V watched as you raced to greet Nero with a flying tackle hug that nearly sent the one armed boy tumbling to the floor from the force of your excitement. The mortal half of Vergil couldn’t help but feel equal parts bitterness, sadness, envy, and longing as he watched you fuss over Nero with worry. As he was, V didn’t feel like he was capable of having a family. Not only was the mysterious man dying the longer he remained separated from his demonic half, but because he felt unworthy after everything that had transpired since the day his family home was burnt down. Although he longed for this, it was probably one of the biggest conflicts within him during the past few weeks with you… and one of the reasons why the days had passed with too much left unsaid.
“Nero! Light of my life! My reckless son!” You continued the embarrassing titles while straightening his jacket and hair, taking care to pat down the spots covered in rubble dust. “I’m so happy to see you! Nico did such a good job with your arm! Oh! But that last one broke-”
The demon hunter’s cheeks pinkened as his mother continued to fuss over him, “Mom,” he whined, embarrassed at the fact that a stranger like V had to bear witness to this. “It’s good to see you, too, but I’m fine. I got a spare arm here-” Nero gestures to the red colored mechanical limb attached to his hip, “-see? I’ll be fine. But enough about me, what are you doing here?”
Like mother, like son, I see. V mused with amusement when the pair of you completely ignored the dying Goliath. Shadow had stalked over to sit at your side with a content flicker of its tail while leaving his weakened master to slowly walk over. “Little wanderer…” V addressed the dying demon, raising his cane to deliver the killing blow, “hie thee home.”
Just as the massive demon faded into burning ashes, you and Nero stopped your fussing to address V’s arrival. “Well, it’s a bit of a long story, Nero.” Your grin is sheepish as you pointed at V with two hands, “Apparently, V’s been living like a hobo before he came to Devil May Cry for the job. Since he didn’t want to leave Red Grave City… and I have a house here, he kinda stayed with me the past few weeks.”
“Uh-huh.” Nero crossed his arms and leaned on one foot, his expression incredulous as blue-green eyes flickered between you and V. “You expect me to believe that your old house is still standing after over two weeks of this.” To V’s amusement, Nero nodded at the rubble and chaos that surrounded them as he finished his sentence.
Kid’s got a point. Griffon communicated telepathically as it circled the sky above their group.
You pouted and slumped over slightly, “… well, it’s not standing anymore.” You looked saddened and bitter at the loss of your home, something that V understood. It had been the home Vergil gifted you, and watching the structure of the building get torn in two had been a devastating loss to you both.
Nero grimaced and uncrossed his arms, pulling you into a comforting hug. “Shit, mom. I’m sorry.”
“It’s uh, one of the reasons why I’m here, actually.” You confessed, hugging your son back. “I’ve got business to settle with Urizen… and I’m sorry to intrude, but would it be okay to stay at the orphanage with you and Kyrie after this is all over?”
“Do you really gotta ask?” Nero smiled gently, pulling away. “Kyrie’s been begging me to ask you to come over. So, just take this as a permanent invitation, okay?” The boy’s attention diverged to V, who had settled to stand off to the side, “By the way, V… Thought I was gonna have to pick you out of his… uh… tummy teeth.”
V didn’t bother hiding the smirk that appeared on his face when you pulled away to look at the fading Goliath and promptly giggled when you realized that the dead demon did indeed have tummy teeth. “Pardon our delay.” The mysterious man holds up the collection of William Blake poems to show Nero, “I was… catching up on some reading.”
Nero’s eyes narrowed at the book, “Yeah… looks like a real page-turner.” The young man remarked dryly. In the background, V and Nero both noticed your renewed laughter at your son’s dry tone while a section of the Qliphoth Tree crumbled. “So uh… you think Dante’s still in there?” Nero asked V, the pair now watching as a path forward was cleared by the falling debris.
“If Urizen defeated him, then I expect he’s not much more than Qliphoth pollen by now.” The somber words from V’s mouth put a stop to your laughing, and while he hated when you were upset, he would rather stay honest when possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Y/N’s POV -
You knew what a Qliphoth tree was, so you didn’t bother paying attention to V’s explanation, preferring to explore the area for anything remotely useful or valuable. Shadow followed after you, its red eyes watching your surroundings in case a demon tried to get a drop on you while away from V and Nero. “V may very well be right about Dante.” You muttered to the demon panther as you nudged a slab of concrete to the side with a foot. “But we’re also talking about Dante, here.” You smirk down at Shadow with hope, “He’s always been the lucky one out of the Sparda twins. Whether it be a winning prize popsicle, or taking on a demon overlord… Dante’s always been able to pull through…”
When you hear the distinct sound of a car smacking against slabs of stone, you turn to walk back towards your son and V, watching with barely concealed amusement at Nico’s antics. “You know, Shadow… Some days I wonder what would have happened to us if Vergil had even half the luck Dante has.” Ignoring Shadow’s questioning gaze, you wave at the trio waiting for you by the van. “Oh well, forget I mentioned.”
Once you were close enough, you plastered a carefree grin on your face, “Hey, Nico! Thanks for looking after my reckless son!”
“Wha-Hey!”
You and the aspiring legendary smith ignored Nero’s indignant cry. “Ah! Don’t mention it, Mrs. S! It’s always mah pleasure!”
“Bullshi, then why do you compl-”
“How much does he owe you for a new arm?”
“Mom! I can pa-”
“Nuh-uh, Mrs. S. Don’t worry about it.”
“D-Don’t worry about it?! What a load of-”
“Aw! You’re sweet as always, Nico!” You grin, walking around to enter the van with V in tow. “I’m looking forward to working with you!”
“Ditto, Mrs. S!”
Poor Nero looks like he’s about to have a fit from his seat inside the van. You feel slightly guilty for teasing your son in such a way, but quite frankly, you and Nico were having too much fun. To rain on your parade, when V climbs up the stairs to stand just behind you, he leans over to whisper in your ear, “Perhaps you shouldn’t tease the boy so much.”
And of course his father would be against my need to tease. You roll your eyes and sigh theatrically, “Alright, fine. I’m sorry, Nero. Please forgive your mother?” You know he already did, but you bat your lashes at him anyways for the fun of it.
Nero just shakes his head and folds his arms, “Just sit down. I don’t wanna risk you two falling and breaking something because of Nico’s shitty driving.”
You and V take a seat to the soundtrack of Nico’s indignant yelling.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
15th June 06:26am
- Y/N’s POV -
“I think we should split into two groups.” V suggested as the group of you sat in the van while Nico worked in the back.
“… And cover more group. Good idea.” Nero finished, turning to leave the passenger seat.
“Three groups.” You amended, getting up to snatch the Totsuka from where you rested it. “We’re splitting into three groups to get rid of the Qliphoth roots, and I’m leaving no room for arguments.” You shot a challenging look at both Nero and V when they opened their mouths to protest.
“Wait, Mom. Are you sure about this? We could still get this done in two groups.” Nero stood up to stop you from leaving the van.
“Yes, I would rather we all play it safe as well.” V’s green eyes locked with yours, silently worried for your well-being.
Sighing, you lifted a hand to pat your son’s cheek fondly. “I’m touched that you’re both worried about me, but you both said it yourselves. We’re on a time limit if we want to stop Urizen. I have Nico’s number, okay? So if I run into any problems, I’ll make sure to call.” With that, you waved goodbye to Nico, Griffon, Nero, and V before departing from the group, jumping out of the van with a spring to your step.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
15th June 08:30am
“Maybe I should have stuck with V.” You muttered out loud, back hand-springing off the wreckage of an industrial building to land on a sturdier platform. A few moments prior, you’d been strolling rather peacefully along the city’s central boulevard… or what was left of it anyways. When you noticed a peculiar figure standing in a dead-end of the collapsed street.
Having just dealt with a few lingering red Empusa stalking the streets and destroyed a few bundles of Qliphoth roots, you were still on high alert. For a moment, you simply stared at the tall imposing figure before it clicked in your mind how familiar the shape was. The last that you had seen that figure was a dark stormy night. “Nelo Angelo?” You whispered in disbelief, yanking the Totsuka from a dying Empusa and taking a step towards the imposing figure.
Of course, the moment you stepped towards Nelo Angelo’s direction, it turned its back on you and jumped atop the rubble blocking the street, only turning to look at you briefly before walking away. You weren’t naive enough to rule out a trap considering how close you were to the main Qliphoth’s structure, but if that phantom was connected to a main root… you would have to deal with him anyways. Sheathing the Totsuka, you followed after the figure, eyes set with flames of determination ablaze.
Which led to your current predicament: scaling collapsed buildings and platforms as you followed the figure of Nelo Angelo. “Honestly, why does every incarnation of Vergil make it their life’s goal to be difficult?” You cursed when your feet made contact with another unstable platform.
The floor gave away just as Nelo Angelo stopped to turn around, your eyes connecting for a moment before you plunged into what seemed to be a tunnel made by the Qliphoth roots. When you failed to grasp ahold of something to stop the fall, you cursed and fixed your position midair. Ah shit. Stick the landing. Stick the landi- You tucked and rolled to absorb the impact from the fall, but instead bounced as you rolled, “Oof!” You grunted when your back collided with a fleshy wall.
“Oooo… ‘A’ for effort.” You huffed, out of breath as you clambered to your feet and strolled over to pick up your Totsuka.
It was… deceptively quiet in the tunnel while you regained your bearings. Red, fleshy, pulsating walls told you that you were definitely somewhere inside the Qliphoth, though probably not in its main structure… maybe you were within one of its main roots? When the walls pulsed rather violently, you grimaced and backed away from the wall, trying not to remember Dante’s comments about demons and vore. “Urgh. Too late.” You groaned, going the slightest bit green as you journeyed deeper into the tunnels.
The further down into the tunnels you went, the less light there was, until you were forced to use a smidge of demonic energy to see in the dark. You’d seen Dante and Vergil use this ability mostly for intimidation purposes, but you found that it was useful for seeing in the dark. With a simple blink, gone were your human eyes, and in their place stood slit pupils, dark sclera, and ethereal glowing light grey irises.
When light was at its minimal, a wail reached your ears from deep within, and suddenly you were sprinting down the tunnel. The closer you came to the wailing, you realized with shock that it was a baby’s cry. What’s a baby doing down here? You wondered, turning as the tunnel drifted left before skidding to a halt at the scene before you.
“That’s not…” your words stopped, caught in your throat as something tight and unpleasant clawed in your chest.
They stood before you, a family. They weren’t much more than shades… shadowy images and illusions… falsehoods… but you knew what you saw. A mother comforting the crying baby boy in her arms while the father stood by his wife’s side, helping her quiet the little one with comforting shushes and whispered words.
“Shhh, shhh, everything’s going to be okay, Nero.” The woman carefully rocked the baby boy in her arms. “Vergil, do you mind humming to him? He always did love it when you sing to him.”
The man nodded and gingerly accepted the baby from his wife’s arms. “Of course, Y/N. You should get some rest, it’s my turn to look after our son tonight.”
The woman yawned and rested her head upon her husband’s arm, watching as he began to hum a familiar lullaby to his baby son. “No, I think I’ll stay right here, Vergil.”
You watched, eyes transfixed with longing and melancholy over the scene. How you wanted this for your family. How you wished that Vergil would have stayed all those years ago. How you wished that Nero was your biological son. How you wished and wished, but your wishes never came true.
The shades before you vanished into wispy shadowy smoke before reforming into two figures and a bed. The tears that had gathered at the corners of your eyes fell as you stared in misery at the scene before you. “No. I don’t want to see this.” You sobbed even when you couldn’t tear your gaze away from the two figures involved in a passionate embrace. Your hands rose to cover your ears, not wanting to listen as a shade of your husband made love with a woman that wasn’t you.
“V-vergil! Ah! Harder!”
“Stop.” You begged, finally closing your eyes, but you could still see and hear the shades.
“Y-you said you had a wife waiting for you at home.”
“Please. Stop!” You cried, shaking your head, not wanting to hear or see any of this.
“Tell me you love me, Vergil. If you don’t care about your wife.”
“… I love you.”
“STOP!” You wailed, throwing a volatile pulse of demonic energy at the shades, banishing the scene completely until you were the only one stood in the middle of a large room filled with rubble. Huddling into a ball of misery, you wept, your hair now a dark silvery white to match the rest of your family.
“Why must you torture me?” you asked the figure stood behind you, though you didn’t rise to confront them face to face, still drowning in your woes. When the figure didn’t answer, you let out a bitter laugh, sniffling, “Figures. You never answer. I don’t even know what I didn’t file for a divorce all those stupid years ago.”
Still crying, you rose to your feet and turned to meet the eyes of Nelo Angelo, though its armor was much different than you realized. Though its eyes glowed red from within its helmet, and its body was solid, you noticed that wisps of shadow and smoke would occasionally fall off it like a fog. This entire time, I was chasing a shade… Umbral Angelo. Probably a pawn of Urizen given life by the Qliphoth. Your grief seemed so intense that it felt like you were choking, but somehow you found it in you to be angry. “Of course Urizen would find it amusing to dance all over my emotions.” You snarled, drawing your blade to point at Umbral Angelo. “So, what! Are you a puppet as well!?” You demanded, taking a menacing step forward. “Are you a puppet to Urizen like Vergil was to Mundus!?”
Umbral Angelo seemed to flinch back, as if struck, but still it didn’t answer you, opting to hold its massive blade at the ready. Gritting your teeth in frustration, you charged forward, swinging the Totsuka in an overhead strike that Umbral Angelo easily parried and countered with a backhand, sending you flying backwards even when you blocked.
“Tsk.” You clicked your tongue in annoyance as you skid backwards upon sticking the landing, “Katana versus broadsword. Really should have taken Dante up on those spars.” You couldn’t get cocky here, you decided, widening your stance and sheathing the katana once more. “I’ll let you come to me, big guy.”
The shade knight raised his broadsword with both hands in a preparation for a lunging motion, the blade glowing and ominous purple before it blinked forwards. You barely had time to switch your footwork and unsheathe the Totsuka to parry the blow to the side before Umbral Angelo was upon you again. Being much smaller than the shade knight, you dodged the incoming elbow thrust by getting in close and under his arm, thrusting the Totsuka into a crack of the armor before pulling away and creating distance.
A growl escaped the shade knight as he too jumped away to create distance. For a moment, the two of you stood at a standstill, simply observing one another from across the room. “I don’t understand you.” The statement falls out of your mouth, eyes narrowing as you run a hand through your silvery hair. “You won’t attack unless I provoke you. You won’t speak. You just stand there!” When Umbral Angelo remained silent, you threw up your arms in exasperation. “Is it the grey eyes? The silver hair? It’s probably a little darker than those of Sparda’s bloodline, but- I’m getting carried away. Answer me!”
The shade remained silent, only changing its position from one ready to attack, to one of rest, stabbing its broadsword into the ground in front of its feet.
“Fine!” The Silver Rose is drawn and its trigger pulled in the blink of an eye, the single bullet hitting the wall just next to the knight’s head.
“…s…r…gi…” Broken sounds echoed from within the confines of the shade knight’s helmet as it shifted its position once more, raising its blade to swing. “…fea…m… w…i…”
Surprised, you could only jump to avoid the wave of energy sent at you from the swing. “Wait. What did you say?”
It didn’t reply, sprinting forward in a violent horizontal swing as you bent backwards to back hand-spring away. The assault of strikes was overwhelming as you were put on the defensive, parrying and dodging while trying to get a few hits in with Totsuka and Silver Rose. There were chinks in its armor, but very little injury to his person. Now that you were closer, however, you could finally hear what Umbral Angelo was muttering.
“…use your gift… defeat me with it…” The shade knight muttered, its voice an echo of something that was once familiar, but long since a memory. “…you must… for your own sake.” It pulled back just enough to throw another downward slash at you. “…please…”
The force of the strike as you block it causes the ground under you to give away. The knight is unrelenting as you struggle to lift the blade or even parry it to the side. You didn’t want to rely on your demonic power so much, but at this rate, you were bound to be defeated by a mere phantom.
A flash of light blankets the room in searing white as you call to your demonic powers. You can feel your body absorb both the Totsuka and Silver Rose as it changes. Before the bright light can disappear, you’d practically teleported to dodge the still descending broadsword.
You grunt in annoyance when you feel your grey hair cascade down your back, having grown longer than it was in your mortal form. Like Dante, your Devil Trigger causes you to take on a draconic appearance, tough silver, grey, and black scales adorning your body in a mimic of a knight’s armor. There’s a ridge around your neck and shoulders that resembles a high collar, protecting your neck from potential damage should the need arise. Your head and face are pulled into what looks like a snout, though your mouth and eyes seem to be stuck in an eternal grin of mischief. Behind you are a set of white leathery wings and a long tail. You have little practice with your wings in tight spaces, so they are currently folded into your spine, keeping them out of the way while you make use of your tail, probably one of the only weapons you have in this form besides your fists and feet. Though describing the appendage as a simple tail would be an understatement, as it is probably more like a stinger, its point, a sharp dagger that can shoot energy beams.
“If you want me to win so badly,” your voice is a hollow echo when you activate your Devil Trigger, “Then, come at me now.”
Umbral Angelo flies at you with another lunge, but this time you dodge and summon white energy copies of the Totsuka to lay into the knight while you throw in a few jabs and kicks, mixing the barrage of attacks up by occasionally backing away so your stinger has enough room to fire a beam of energy or two.
The assault is too much for the shade knight, and it is forced to create as much distance from you as possible. It looks like it can barely lift its sword from the damage you caused. Umbral Angelo drops his broadsword and falls to its knees, weakened and defeated as you approach.
“Now, let me ask again. Why did you show me those things?” You demand, releasing your Devil Trigger to stand as mortal once more.
“To show you the truth. To show you his demons. A part of him regretted. But a part of him did not. Before you face him again, you needed to know.” Umbral Angelo forced himself to reply, though his voice was weak. “There is… one more thing. He-”
Umbral Angelo did not get the chance to finish when a sword cleaved through his chest, killing the shade instantly.
You stood, wide-eyed, your face slightly splattered with dark blood as another figure bearing Nelo Angelo’s semblance stood before you. When it didn’t attack you, you wondered briefly why it had killed its own ally. And then, you heard a distorted demonic cackle behind you.
“A pity it wasn’t even useful to defeat his old whore.”
You had no idea what the hell you were staring at. A three headed woman fused with a giant chicken fetus. Wait… whore?
“WHORE!?” You screeched, immediately activating your Devil Trigger once more to rush the cackling abomination. “I’LL SHOW YOU A WHORE YOU RAGGEDY EXHIBITIONIST!”
“Oooh! I touched a nerve!” The abomination sneered before disappearing into a portal. “Deal with her.”
Just as you’re about to close in on the backend of the retreating abomination, you’re tackled so hard that you get sent through the floor and into open air.
I’m going to do a weird.
I know a whole lot of us are stuck at home due to the COVID19 outbreak and all our respective governments attempting to flatten the curve. So I’m going to break out my VAST library of fanfiction recommendations for you to read! Please bear in mind that my tastes in fics are not necessarily like yours so the following 15 Fandom reccs might be hit or miss. All ships and above T ratings will be tagged with brackets, all crossovers will be mentioned in those same brackets. Also, if I mention it’s part of a series, I’m not just recommending the fic I mentioned, I’m recommending the whole series. I’ve tried to recommend a different author’s fic each time. So! Let’s start with the 3 fandoms I mention in my blog description.
1) ATLA Fate Deferred (Zutara) Aang remains in the iceberg ten years longer. Sozin’s comet comes, the world keeps turning with no Avatar to save it, and by the time he’s finally found by a waterbender and her Fire Nation husband, a lot has changed. [Zutara established relationship full series rewrite; Now on Book II: Earth] Cheating at Pai Sho (Canon Divergence) “You said you were the Avatar!” “…I lied?” Aang doesn’t get rescued in episode two, and no one’s seen him go glowy yet… so he starts bluffing. Hard. Or: “The Avatar joins Zuko’s quest to find the Avatar.” In which Zuko doesn’t join the Gaang, the Gaang joins Zuko. The Undying Fire: Blood and Fire (First in the Undying Fire Series, eventual Zutara) Book 1. In which rescuing the Avatar from Pohuai Stronghold doesn’t end so well. It’s a tough life being a banished prince trying to get home, especially when the Avatar just wants to be your friend and keeps making everything confusing. Oh, and did Zuko mention he somehow healed the kid? Yeah, that happened. Stalking Zuko (First in the Stalking Zuko Series, eventual Zutara) Katara has developed a new hobby. At the Western Air Temple she takes to stalking Zuko. Much silliness and shenanigans follow. In chapter 20: Katara and Zuko return home to the others. Katara hates the F word and she comes to a decision regarding Zuko. Embers (Canon divergence) Dragon’s fire is not so easily extinguished; when Zuko rediscovers a lost firebending technique, shifting flames can shift the world… 2) Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Father (Percabeth in the GFFA, eventual Anidala) It all started with a wish, but because it was Percy Jackson it couldn’t have been a friendly goddess granting him a wish. No, it had to be Nemesis, goddess of revenge and balance. Now Percy and Annabeth are stuck in a strange new galaxy right when an ancient and powerful darkness finally begins to stir. Glass Figures (MCU Mashup) I lifted my gun, pointing it towards the minefield of shattered fragments, and kicked the small coffee table out of the way.Only to stare down at an awfully familiar face, which split into a somewhat lopsided grin. The intruder raised his hands in a mocking surrender. //“Long time no see, dude.” //I lowered the gun. “What the hell are you doing in South Peru?” //Or in which Clint Barton and Percy Jackson have a long personal history that starts in high school. All Together, Cousins (Canon divergence) When Thalia ran away with her toddler brother, Jason, she slowly gathered her cousins: she and her cousins being Big Three children. As Jason gets older and their motley group expands to six, Thalia resigns herself to the fact that she won’t always be the leader of the pack. As she accepts that, something more is coming, able to challenge even the gods above. A Crown of Golden Leaves (Historical AU) Annabeth, a Lady from the declining polis of Athens, must marry the Heir Apparent of Rome to save the rapidly expanding world from a threat even the gods couldn’t foresee. Deluge (Percy in the Arrowverse) Barry has to deal with yet another Metahuman that Zoom has pitted against him. But this ‘Metahuman’ is an unwilling pawn in Zoom’s plan and really wants to find a way around killing the Scarlet Speester. But how can he when Zoom is holding something against him?
3) DC Firework (First in the Sparks in the Dark Series) Orphaned and removed from the only life he’s ever known, Dick feels like there’s no light left for him in the world. His new benefactor, however, still sees something worth saving… Chronological beginning of the Spark in the Dark series. Iron, Fire, Mirror-Glass After a brutal confrontation with Bane, Bruce comes away with a broken spine and the certainty that his days as Batman are over. An unexpected discovery offers him another chance—but at what price? The story of a man who risks his soul for the sake of his mission, the dangerous creature he names Robin, and the unlikely partnership that will shape the legend of Gotham’s Dark Knight. Get Back Up There was a mole, one who played a long game. The team was betrayed, crushed. Robin nearly died. What are they going to do now? Only one chirped the answer. Get back up. WARNING: lots of talking, little action, many follow ups Five Times …Five times Damian thought of Dick Grayson as his father, and the one time Dick thought of Damian as his son. Future-fic. YJ characters will show up later. Batman!Dick and Damian as Robin. With guest appearances from Jason, Tim, Cass, and Steph. Unveiling the Mystery Series of one-shots about the team learning a little about Robin (Dick Grayson). With all the fics, I heavily suggest you also read what else these authors have to offer in their archive.
And now here’s the plethora of other fandoms I read fics in under the cut!
4) Harry Potter The Horse (Mature) Looking after a Muggle animal should be easy compared to saving Hogwarts from Voldemort. Harry and Draco might disagree with that. Featuring Luna, Marauders, peppermints and, of course, a tall, black, badtempered horse named Simon. The Potions Master’s Nephew An accident occurs and Professor Snape finds himself trapped in his fifteen-year-old body. Enrolled into Harry Potter’s fifth year, he is forced to hide his true identity. Girls, drama and teenage angst do not bode well with Severus. Keeping Up with the Grangers (Dramione, Mature) Mr. Malfoy, I invite you and your mother to tea next Tuesday, May 25th at 2o’clock to discuss recent events. Dr. Helen Granger //… …// He glances at the boxy too-uniform numbers flashing on the face of Richard’s radio. It’s nearly noon, and he should be getting ready to leave; but there is still a harsh tension in his shoulders and neck that he wants to work out before Hermione finds him. It is, after all, Tuesday; and while his Tuesdays were designated ‘tea with Helen’ days previously, they are now ‘lunch with Granger’ days, ever since the chance meet-up with the Weasel’s wife and the insufferable swot herself. Faceless (Dramione, Mature) New year. New love. New threat. A powerful enemy is on the rise, and Hermione Granger finds herself intertwined in a relationship with Draco Malfoy – only she doesn’t know it’s him. / / RUNNER-UP: Enchanted Awards Summer 2017 for Best Relationship Development
5) Devil May Cry And the Rest is Silence (Mature) The destruction of the Saviour wasn’t the end. Too many people had too much invested. An Uncle’s Thoughts Dante’s thoughts and feelings regarding one particular quarter-demon kid. Vignettes that span from the start of Devil May Cry 4 through Devil May Cry 5, and beyond. Fortuna’s Fool Events after DMC5 with flashbacks to the events we briefly see in DMC4SE only with Vergil telling Dante all about Nero’s mother. Family ties are so complicated, aren’t they? Family of Happenstance Some orphans have happy endings, getting adopted or finding their family. Having a demon slaying half devil for a father tends to throw a tiny monkey wrench in the process. AU Father!Dante, Son!Nero. Rated because hunters don’t exactly have clean mouths.
6) Power Rangers (Focus on Might Morphin’ and Dino Thunder teams) Of Love and Bunnies Set just after Dino Thunder. The Reason (Part 1 of eclyptyk neo‘s Dino Thunder AU) COMPLETED. DT. AU. Years go by as Tommy Oliver becomes accustomed to his job as a teacher. A person from his past returns. The new ranger team grows interested in its outcome. How will these new changes between rangers young and old be? Sequel: Ordinary World Change of Hearts (Wild Force) PRWF: When Jindrax and Toxica set out to find themselves, they had no idea that their greatest adventure was only beginning. Chronology Conundrum DT/MMPR - After a strange mutation is released in Reefside, the five Dino Thunder Ranges find themselves thrown back into the past, circa 1995 Angel Grove. Somehow, they have to figure out how to make it back to their present without destroying it or themselves. And if they succeed, they must navigate the consequences of their actions in the past, while still protecting Reefside. 7) Merlin (Mergana leaning) The Other Version of Events What if Merlin and Arthur had met when they were children? What if a mysterious illness fell over Ealdor and Merlin was blamed? What if Arthur had actually felt sorry for him? What if destiny was thrown at them in a whole new way? AU, no slash, Bromance, A/G M/M… You get the idea. Flipping the Coin, Part 2 of Coins (2nd story in the Coins Sage but 1st multichapter) Merlin and Gwaine are sent on an adventure to discover their past and stay one step ahead of Morgana. Fearing for them, Arthur and the other knights set out to find them, but soon discover much more than they bargained for. Alt version Season 5. Sunday reading recap (1-Nov-2020)
i cannot express how grateful i am to past me for taking this entire week as vacation
THINGS I WATCHED - not as much as I expected, to be honest!
Disgusting Car Detailing Makeover: Junk Yard Find Jurassic Park Transformation (AMMO NYC) - it’s just really satisfying to see something so filthy get cleaned!
The Strangest Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle (BuzzFeed Unsolved)
Avatar:The Last Airbender Ep 1-4
How To Be At Home (2020) (Tanya Davis & Andrea Dorfman) - great animation of a great poem
all of Infinity Song’s videos (OK mostly I listened to these but still)
THE READING - i made the conscious decision to reread a number of comfort series starting on Tuesday and, again, excellent decision by past me
💜👂 Tales from the Folly: A Rivers of London Short Story Collection (Rivers of London #1.5, 1.6, 4.6, 5.65, 6.5) (Ben Aaronovitch (author); Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Narrator); Alex Kingston (Narrator); Sam Peter-Jackson (Narrator)) - one of the things i love the most about the short stories & novellas is the expanded POVs for this universe, which i love more and more. all the narrators were excellent but KHS is, as usual, the standout. i liked that they had BA read the intros/explanations that come with each story.
The Very Dumb Academics AU series (sixthlight) - TOG, 13K - I super love this AU! I'm highlighting a few of my fave lines that made me laugh a LOT.
“Fuck you,” Joe said, just to remind them both what they were doing here, and jerked himself off kneeling in a storage closet with his head leaning on Nicky diGenova’s thigh and Nicky petting his hair. It was the hottest thing that had happened to him since the last time in a storage closet. He’d given up counting where it fell on the list of stupid things he’d done in his life. He had a horrible feeling the list was going to get unmanageably long.
“Cool, cool, cool,” Nile said, and said goodbye. She did not sound like someone who thought everything was cool.
“I’m sorry I criticized your towel storage decisions,” Joe said, and waited a beat. “In front of someone else.”
“I’m not going to give you a dissertation on the importance of marriage, because I have a class in ten minutes and also I wrote it up five years ago and published it and you know how to use JSTOR,” Nicky said.
“Look,” Joe says. “We’re all academics. I acquired new evidence and changed my position to be consistent with it. That’s all.” “What new evidence?” “I’m really good at sucking cock in storage closets,” Nicky says, folding his arms with a casual shrug. “Also, I can cook.” “See?” Joe says. “Husband material.”
The First Rule of Book Club (Deisderium) - Stucky, 28K - I’ve raved about this before but it’s a post-WS canon-divergent where Bucky settles in a small town & joins the local book club - the outsider POV for these is *chef’s kiss*
Extra Whip (Door) - Sterek, 3K - another amazing ‘outsider POV’ fic, a flipping classic
I'd Promise You a Heart (emj1s) - Stucky, 21K - so many things i love in this fic: shrunkyclunks, everyday magical AU!, witch Bucky, Alpine the cat, gender noncomformity
do you have any WIPs for rottmnt or ducktales?
Yes!!! I do :D
I have,,, 4 rise wips I think? The first 2 are a Donnie centric thing about him being a softshell and how that affects him in relation to his bros, and a fic about Leo / his self esteem /boi please stop sacrificing urself I love u.
The third is based off my bone rat / dad!hueso thing but it’s in the outlining stage and probably gonna chill there for a while till I have less active things
And the fourth is,,,, hmmm kinda a secret ig? But also not really? I’m doing a continuation of someone else’s fic (and going in a kinda weird direction that I like A lot.) I got permission and everything lol but my anxiety brain is like “don’t talk about it until it’s posted”
But I can tell u it focuses on all the boys and is kinda longer! :)
For ducktales,,,, oh gosh ok,,,,, really feel like I need to give context shxhhfhfd
So. Like a year ago I finished a 50k ish word fic called moments that basically told the entirety of Donald’s life
The thing w/ that is that when I started I wanted like. 7 10k ish word fics that told the lives of Scrooge, donald, Della, jose, Panchito, Gladstone, and Fethry
For the record this is like. A cannon adjacent au ig? There’s a lot of small and medium changes, including focus on trans themes, Nero divergence, Jewish!psnchito, and a large array of slightly non cannon headcannons
The two biggest changes in the au were that a) Donald, Della, Scrooge, fethry, and Gladstone get magic, and b) about 4 years after the SOS José and Panchito come to help Donald raise the boys (ima come back to this in a sec)
The only problem w/ that was at the time of me writing it I was still in a weird place writing wise. It was probably my second major fic that I posted and it was getting more attention than I was used too. Also, i just had wayyyyy too many ideas and am very bad at cutting them lol. Like I had the “whole life fics”/prequel fics planned out for the adult characters, + stuff that took place during the show and had more to do w/ the kids / “the present” ig.
So I like,,, got overwhelmed/ freaked myself out and instead of pacing myself like I do now (*cough* that’s why I post descendants stuff so rarely sry guys *cough*) I just,,, rushed through to the end of the Donald fic and went on hiatus from the series
ANYWAY the reason that long freaking ramble was necessary lol is bc I’m actually working on that series again! I’m doing condensed versions of the original adult / prequel fics, w/ a related one shot series bc in the Donald fic I tended to “skip” scenes bc they were more important to other characters than to him. Since I’m doing the condensed version scenes that I skipped will probably end up in the one shot fic bc I’m using a very different writing style in order to condense stuff
Also bc I was rushing when it came to the end of Donald’s story I kinda ignored A lot of aspects of the biggest changes (magic + 3 cabs raising the triplets together). So I’m using the prequel fics to explore the magic and doing another fic about the three cabs raising the boys together. And then another one about after they move in and webby kinda fitting in as the fourth triplet
Gsgsgdhdh sorry that is SUPER long and confusing. Short answer I probably should have givin would have been:
I’m continuing moments w/ a mini prequel series (that explains the accidentally ignored magic aspect of the au), a fic about the three cabs raising the triplets, a one shot fic, and a fic about them moving into the manor/adopting webby
Most of the dt ones probably won’t come out for a while though lol. I’m very much a mess of a person and tend to have a lot of active wips at once (I’m not kidding,,, that’s not even half of them XD)
It probably would be better to just. Pick a thing and work it until it’s done, but that’s not how my brain works lol
Sorry for the super long response xhgdgfhhgf ty for the ask though ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Diverging Jealousy: The Infamous Dante
A/N: Almost done with this mini series. Currently working on V’s part which is the same scene but from his perspective. It’s been tricky work since I have not really done pieces where there are two potential romances. Sorry in advance for the potential angst and the wait/slow build ;-;
A/N 2: Just a friendly heads up. I’m using female pronouns here to make the dialogue easier, but you may change it to however you see fit as you read along ^^
.
.
.
After nearly biting his head off, Dante knew he has to set things right with you and V. He figured the best way to do that was to first find V and put an end to their rivalry quicker than it began. Luckily finding the him was easier than anticipated, evident by a giant meteor fall from the sky. He snorts.
Dante: “Call it a hunch.”
As quick as his long legs could carry him, Dante rushes over to swoop in and come to his aid. The tattooed man was both surprised and relieved to see him and together they laid waste to the red reptilians monsters that gave him a hard time.
They are moving now, Dante keeping a careful eye on V as they walk, ready to catch him. The man was applying pressure on his shoulder, despite the makeshift bandage, courtesy of the bottom of Dante’s shirt, he’s still bleeding. The legendary devil hunter winces.
Dante: “We’re gonna have to call for a medic, V.”
The other man groans weakly in response, Dante assumes that means he agrees.
V: “You were searching for me...”
Dante: “Yeah, well, Spitfire was worried about you.”
V: “Spitfire?”
Dante: “My partner. Damn near ripped my ear off when I mentioned us declaring war over her.”
V: “I see. Gather she did not like the idea of being treated like a prize.”
Dante: “Ha. She said the same thing. Guess you do know her better than I.”
V: “Yet there is an affection between you two that leaves me envious. A warmth nurtured by the passage of time.”
It was a really nice way to put it and Dante had to smile at the thought. It’s true. You two have been through a lot together. He could count on you for anything. And that’s why...
Dante: “I won’t lie, when I saw you two earlier. When she touched you like that, it messed me up in the head bad.”
V: “Oh?”
Dante: “Yeah, there aren’t any other guys in our line of work. Just us and, ha, Nero. Once I found out how much I liked her, not once was I scared of someone else catching her eye. Until you came along.”
It felt embarrassing admitting something like this to V, to open up to someone else that isn’t you or Trish about his innermost thoughts and feelings. But he felt the need to explain himself, to help V understand where he’s coming from as if doing so will help him get closer to you. And you weren’t even there to hear it.
V: “To see the world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wildflower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.”
Dante has heard this verse before. Not from V, but somewhere else he could not place.
V: “When I first met her...I saw the world and heaven; when I am near her, I felt infinity and eternity.”
Dante: “Those are some heavy words, Mr. Poetry.”
Hell, he wasn’t surprised that you were drawn to V given that. It unsettled him as he secretly wished he can admit something like that out loud. Perhaps then his words would be better received by you. He recalls the way your eyes lit up when you snuck a peek into V’s book. He is pulled out of his thoughts when he hears V clear his throat, apparently the other man was lost in his own daze as well.
V: “Indeed. So I understand wholeheartedly what it is like to lose something precious. A part of yourself that you would regret being without.”
He just keeps on hitting the nail on the head. At first Dante just thought that he couldn’t do a job without you. Secretly calling you his “good luck charm”. It was a lie, of course, any work thrown at him, he could do blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back. He almost laughs out loud when he remembers you actually making him take up on that claim and all Dante heard was you laughing while he dealt with the demons in some abandoned warehouse.
Then it hit him, you stopped him from kissing you, but you didn’t push him away. Despite all the shenanigans and bold moves he pulled off, you kept him in check but didn’t isolate yourself from him. That gave him hope. He looks over at V. There’s still the competition. He didn’t want a repeat of last time. But he felt...that he can’t outright block him out from you. In the end, all Dante really wants is for you to have that special someone that sees you as he sees you. If it is with him, pizza is on him for the rest of their lives. If it is with V...
Dante: “I’m gonna have her patch you up.”
He could see that V was genuinely taken aback by his suggestion.
V: “I thought you did not like to share.”
Dante: “Still don’t. But it’s not gonna look good to my future customers if I let you bleed out on my time. Bad for business.”
Both men smiled at his bullshit.
Dante: “Plus, she’s got the best working hands in Red Grave City. Me, I’ll butcher the job.”
They can hear a familiar talking bird cackle.
Griffon: “Oh, the best, you say?”
The flying demon was nearly shot out of the air by Dante’s bullet...and the sharp end of V’s cane, the latter’s returning to the owner’s hand instantly. Luckily, Griffon ducked away in time and hastily retreated back to ink, completing V’s markings. They two devil hunters have stopped walking to face each other now, the air between them palpably tense.
V: “The help is much appreciated, but I feel that there is more you wish to say.”
Dante: “Yeah...”
Dante places his hand on V’s good shoulder.
Dante: “When we catch up to her or if she finds us first, she’s gonna look pissed as all hell. Brace yourself. Though with you, I think she’ll go a little easy on the punch.”
V winces at the image while Dante himself can picture it so vividly he can feel the impact as if it were actually happening. She’s going to go right for my jaw, I know it. He shakes his head and continues.
Dante: “If you mean everything that you said...”
His throat tightens, getting them out was hard for him but he knew this needed to be done.
Dante: “Don’t force your affections. If she feels for you, she’ll show it. That’s the great thing about her. She doesn’t fuck around. Not when it comes to demons or hearts.”
It was such a sappy thing to say, but hell, he adored that sentimental side you had.
V: “Why are you telling me this?”
He knew where V was coming from. Giving advice to the man that had a great chance in stealing your heart from him before he can win it. Still...
Dante: “Because...”
He sighs.
Dante: “I made a bad move. It wasn’t my place to throw all of that stuff down on her before, declaring my feelings for her in front of you to make you back off to boot. That shit was too soon and uncalled for. In truth, I really was going to give her everything as soon as this job was done, regardless of whether or not I would come out of it alive.”
The experienced hunter scratches the back of his head, shame evident in the way he furrows his brows to a harsh line.
Dante: “Damn it, didn’t even ask her what she wanted. She doesn’t deserve that, she has a right to make her own calls.”
Inside Dante hoped he had the guts to repeat this to you... He hears a slight chuckle from the other man.
V: “You surprise me. It seems that despite your blind stubbornness, there lies some degree of wisdom and astounding selflessness. Is this the same man I hired to defeat Urizen?”
Dante was stunned for a second, for a moment he had expected V to tell him to fuck off or downright ignore him, but the mysterious man hung onto every word he said and took it to heart. He laughs. The red-coat wearing hunter lowers his hand and offers it to the tattooed gentleman who takes it in his own, they both give a firm shake. The battle is ongoing still, but this time not against each other, but the overcome the obstacles they have erected towards the path to you. If one of them reaches the end, would you greet them?
Dante: “C’mon. I think I saw a payphone earlier on my way to-”
???: “FINALLY FOUND YOU BASTARDS!”
Alarmed, both men look up towards the source of the voice to see you landing on your feet in front of them from a high platform. A look of pure aggravation seethes your face.
Dante: “Ah, partner. Funny, we were just about to ca-”
He never got to finish that sentence, receiving a powerful hook on the side of his jaw.
Binding with Briars Chapter 1
Slow burn, flirting, Canon Divergence, V is only V, NSFW will be included.
“Hey! Rise and shine there, sleeping beauty!”
You made a weak attempt to shield yourself from the blinding sun as Nico yanked open the van's small curtains, and gave a groan. You buried your face in your pillow.
“Nico, didn't Nero say something about how I'm supposed to be 'recovering’?” Your voice was muffled as you made a bolder attempt to reclaim sleep.
Your head abruptly smacked against the bench you had been sleeping on as Nico yanked your pillow out from under you. You bolted upright.
“What the fuck--” Your pillow came back at you, hitting you square in the face. You tossed it aside to see the mechanic already dressed, her dark hair pulled back into a pony tail, a hand on her hip and brows knitted together.
“Nah ah, don't you give me none of this 'recovering’ nonsense, you've been layin’ about for the better part of three days.” Nico handed you jeans and a plain shirt, and as you struggled to move your arms above your head to put the shirt on her stern expression softened.
As you finally stood you heard, “Look, girlie, we're all real sorry about what's happened to ya and all, what with being stuck in that hellhole for a few days, losin’ your family to that damned houseplant”.
You winced at both the pain in your arms and at the mention of Redgrave City. You didn't want to think too hard about what you had seen and the people you loved and lost when the Qliphoth emerged. You tugged on your jeans and stood, tiny jolts of pain running up your arms from where the injuries to your joints were still on the mend. You tried to remind yourself you were lucky just to be alive, but somehow it still wasn't very cheering.
Nico sighed, moving back to the makeshift kitchen to pull together a cup of coffee. She turned back to you, setting her mug down on the counter with a thump.
“But cha gotta get up at some point, gotta get back at it! That bastard demon tree that caused all this ain't gonna kill itself, and you got a stake in this here fight now too”. She gave you a firm nod and waved her coffee cup at you. “The sooner ya start back at it, the better.”
“How can I even help? I didn't do much of anything while I was in Redgrave but run and scream.” You were more than a little embarrassed that you hadn't risen to the occasion as a hero, and instead scrambled wildly for survival. You grabbed a cup of coffee from the pot, savoring the first hot thing you've had to drink since you were rescued.
Nico shrugged. “Well shit, those buildings you were hidin’ out in were basically mazes, and even without a whole lotta fightin’ you made it out alive. I'd say that makes you our resident strategist.” Nico nodded to herself, proud of her own leap in logic.
You sputtered as you choked on your coffee, gasping as it scalded your tongue and splashed down your shirt. “A strategist? Nico, just because I found an escape route for me doesn't mean I can find one for 3 or more people.” You shook your head as you attempted to wipe your shirt clean “it's just too much for one person.” Your head spun at the overload of information.
Nico rolled her eyes, shook her head, and moved past you toward the front of the RV. “Quit your whinin’, it's already been decided, Nero and I talked it all over ‘fore you even woke up. We all earn our keep round here, fightin' demons, and since we did the hard part-- saving your ass, mind you--, and you got nowhere else to go, you'll stay and help us out.” She smiled and rested her hand on the headrest of the passenger seat. “ 'Sides, you won't be strategizing for all of them boys, just one of them”.
You pulled off your now coffee soaked shirt and went digging through the nearby laundry hamper for a new one, pulling it half on as you called out “Well, I guess that's more manageable, then. All depends, who am I paired with?”
A smooth voice split the silence. “You'll be joining me”.
You gave a little cry as you frantically pulled your shirt on the rest of the way, scrambling to cover yourself as a dark haired man rose from sitting in the passenger seat. His carefully neutral expression didn't give away whether or not he had seen anything.
“How long has he been--”
Nico waved her hand and cut you off. “This is V, y'all might've met before, but I don't think anyone would blame ya for not remembering. You were pretty banged up for a while”.
One hand gripped a cane, and V's other hand gave a polite half wave. A subtle smile played at his lips. “It's good to see you that you've recovered”. Your cheeks burned as you tried to focus on something other than the intricate tattoos that spanned his torso and arms, left visible by the long black vest and low slung jeans he wore.
V cleared his throat loud enough to get your attention, and the blush you were fighting crept up your face as you looked down at the floor.
You took a breath to refocus. “Thank you, I'm fine.”
V's tongue caught the edge of his canine tooth bringing his lips into a smirk; he arched an eyebrow. “So it would seem you are.” By the time your eyes had reached his face it was once again carefully neutral. You shook your head slightly, you had to have been hearing things.
V stumbled as Nico clapped a hand to his shoulder. “Well the way I see it, V ain't too great with fighting neither, 'cept with them fancy shadow demons of his, so he'll need all the help he can get”. V leaned on his cane and stood upright, moving more toward the door.
“And we've got a mission this morning, you and I”. V pushed open the door, letting in blinding sunlight in large streams. Your stomach dipped at the mention of you both as a team.
“Just keep an eye on me, watch my back, and everything should go smoothly” V lead the way out of the RV as the door shut behind you. As you hurriedly yanked on your shoes leaning against the van, you looked up to find V already a few steps ahead of you.
V looked over his shoulder, a smirk on his face. “Though it doesn't seem you're able to watch much of anything else, hm?”
The blush on your face might as well be permanent it's so frequent. Your reply came out as a stammer.
“I don't know what you mean. I'm just nervous for the mission, it's not like I've ever been one before anyways.” You ran to catch up to him, struggling with the uneven pavement.
V chuckled, giving a quiet “hmm” of consideration. “How good it is to be a lady's first”.
You opened your mouth to reply when V's hand wrapped around your waist, abruptly yanking you closer to him as the ground beneath you gave away. A shriek of surprise left your lips as you both fell to the pavement away from the gap in the street.
When you sat up V was flat on his back, and to your mortification you realized you were essentially straddling him, one knee on either side of his hips. He arched a brow at you.
“For someone who is supposed to excel at strategy, you seem to be a little... distracted.” He gestured with a free hand to your position and his other hand grabbed his cane.
You hurriedly stood up, blindly moving forward down the path where the road collapsed down to meet the earth. You jumped as V crept up from behind, his voice low and smooth in your ear, “Perhaps we'll save that for some other time”. You tripped over the uneven pavement, your focus lost as your cheeks burned. You gave a groan as V forged the path ahead once again.
“Can you stop for one second?” You snapped. V scaled down into the sewer system extending a hand to you.
“And what exactly do you want me to stop doing?” V's face betrayed nothing of his thoughts.
“All of that... talking! Or whatever it is you're doing. Stop trying to throw me off.” You looked away from him as he took your hand and helped you down into the sewer tunnel.
V looked irrationally calm. “I'm afraid I fail to see what you mean. It's no matter” he waved a hand, cutting off your dissent. “Now the real mission begins”.
“What are we hunting down, exactly?” You had forgotten to even ask, and you cursed yourself for following blindly.
Any hint of humor that had been there prior was gone from V's expression and replaced with a serious face that sent a chill down your spine.
“We're going to kill the Elder Geryon Knight and his steed.” V's voice lowered conspiratorially. “What they don't know is you're also going to help me find the Devil Sword Sparda, to end this war with the Qliphoth and it's king, Urizen.”
As you both headed into the sewer system and away from the light of day, V whipped around to be face to face you, walking backward just to keep ahead of you. The tunnel grew darker and darker. “And they don't need to know. It shall be our little secret.”
Your eyes narrowed. “Is this whole fight some kind of game to you? I lost family you know, friends, and I'm not here to--”
You stopped as V pressed a finger to your lips. His voice had gained a new edge, something dangerous lurked beneath his words. “A horse misused upon the road calls to Heaven for human blood.”
You blinked, more confused than anything. You thrashed your head, freeing yourself from his grip. “I don't know what that means, and I'm going to need some answers if we're supposed to be a team.” You spat the last word as if sarcasm could be a curse.
“It means don't test my resolve, little wanderer. I want this war to end more than you could possibly ever understand.” His hand encircled your wrist, yanking you forward into the dark, his pace much quicker now even with his cane.
“Punishments await those who those who fail me. You have yet to prove yourself as a capable strategist.” You shivered as you followed hurriedly through the dark. V chuckled, though it sounded humorless.
“Here's a good chance for you to prove yourself now. Unless you'd rather see the punishment, that is.” Light leapt forth from V as a large panther sprung into existence, a smile that was all teeth on V's face. In the glow he seemed almost predatory. You gave a cry as the light revealed a horde Empusa demon, shrieks rising up as they squirmed under the magic glow.
V looked over his shoulder and smirked. “Now's a chance to put your staring to good use, little wanderer.” He gestured with his cane to a higher ledge. “If you please, watch over me.”
Note - READ LOVE’S SACRIFICE IT’S V PROLOGUE - Pairing V/OFC
“So I knew about Lysander one,” Dante said as he leaned back into a chair, a magazine on his lap. Vergil was out cold, and Charlotte decided to go downstairs and rest since she stayed up most of the night. For someone that promised a “watch”, she took more than her fair share. It was practically daybreak now, and Yvette had to do a combination of shove her sister down the stairs and tuck her securely into a couch to make sure she’d never move again. “I hate to say it, but I didn’t know there was a Lysander two that took on the family business.”
Startled from getting lost in her own head, Yvette blinked at him for a second before his words clicked and she nodded, “Yeah, sorry. Lotty and I don’t do every job together, a lot of the time splitting up. I also run my own little ‘at home’ business, so there’s that. I’m not always out there slayin’ monsters, but I’m always available if Lotty needs me.”
“Lotty huh? How did she get that nickname?” Dante never heard of Charlotte’s nickname, but now that he had it...he was pretty certain he was going to get shot for it. Regardless, he was still curious about it. “What at home business do you do?”
“Well, I’m younger by two years and when I was learning to talk I couldn’t say her name properly. I called her Lotty and she calls me Vetty when she’s being sentimental or upset about something. As for what I do? I go to people’s homes, businesses, or whatever and I sage cleansing and purification. Sometimes it sparks a demon attack, sometimes it doesn’t. I also offer meditation sessions and crystal massage.” She grinned, “I’m a nut for shiny rocks.”
“Lysander witches, makes sense.” Dante nodded. “Vetty’s adorable. Kind of reminds me of a puppy.”
“Lotty and Vetty could both be pupper names,” Yvette snickered, “Though honestly, that’s a first. Dunno how she’d feel about being called a puppy. She’s more like a moody cat.”
Dante could see it. “My brother’s the same way. They get along well. At least, as well as one can get when someone is literally burning the poison out of you.” His eyes wandered to Vergil’s sleeping form. They were pieces of work. Both of them. “He’s been gone for seven years. I wasn’t really expecting him to come back.”
“Geez, seven years?” she toyed with the silver spinner ring on her left thumb, also watching Vergil, “I can’t…” she shook her head, “I can’t even begin to imagine what seven years without Lotty would be like...I mean, if she’s gone longer than a week on a demon mission I get worried sick.”
“Well, in honesty my brother and I aren’t exactly heart to heart types of people. To be frank, I didn’t even know Vergil even had a woman, let alone a kid for a long time until I randomly dropped in during a bad time.” Dante sighed, kicking his legs to cross them the other direction. “Nero was the one that told me about the seven-year thing. We...tend to stay out of each other’s business. The only common connection we have is Nero. He’s the one that might take over Devil May Cry when I get ready to retire or some shit.”
“‘The family business, saving people hunting things’...oh my god my nerd showed I’m so sorry.” Yvette smacked her hand over her face.
“Supernatural?” Dante snickered. “You have to admit, they come up with some really interesting ideas. I wouldn’t mind fighting some of the demons they’re hunting, but I’m not too sure they can handle ours.”
“Two different worlds, that’s for goddamn sure. They’d shit themselves seeing our demons, I wholeheartedly agree.” Yvette blew her hair from her face, “What was it like? Finding out Nero was family?”
“Insane,” Dante admitted bluntly. “Vergil’s not the type that goes after women, let alone a longstanding relationship. But they seemed to have lasted...for a while. I wouldn’t blame her if she walked away. Our lives are difficult. Hard. Vergil, more so.”
“If Vergil’s not the type to pick a woman lightly, she wouldn’t have walked.” Seeing the way he relaxed under Charlotte’s touch gave plenty away, and Dante’s explanation helped solidify that idea. “What would make more sense to me is if she met the same fate as my parents because you’re right, this life’s hard. Dangerous as fuck. Dog-eat-dog world and all that.”
“Well can’t blame me for hoping that she was smart.” Dante sighed, “But you’re not wrong. Missing for seven years and coming back looking like that? He must have gone after her, or something happened in the Underworld and didn’t want to tell me about it. We have our differences about it. It’s caused us both a lot of pain.” He stretched. “Enough with the depressing talk. Nothing’s gonna get fixed if we mope about it.”
“Yeah, that was harsh. Sorry.” She eyeballed him, “Stiff?”
“Nothing I can’t handle, Yeti. You’re good. Stiff? Yeah, a bit.” Dante agreed. “It’s from sitting in uncomfortable places for too long, I’m sure.”
“I’ll give you a surprise if you never call me Yeti again.”
“Where’s your sense of adventure? I thought you were the less stuck up one.”
“Rude. Fine. Close your eyes.” When he arched a brow at her she did the same until he stubbornly obeyed. Standing up she went around and wiggled and stretched her fingers before she pounced. This was what she really enjoyed doing, giving massages. Taking into account his thick coat she adjusted pressure and slid along his muscles smoothly.
“Oh god, that hits the spot.” Dante groaned as she got right into a good knot. “Damn.”
“Take this off and it’ll get better.” Yvette’s grin went from ear to ear as she tapped his shoulder and lifted her hands long enough for him to shrug his coat, draping it back over the seat and she went right back at it. This time she even worked along his neck, back and forth creating gentle friction, then along the back neck tendons, behind his ears to his temples, back again, working his shoulders and repeating. Even though she’d been awake forever by now, doing something she loved made her giddy and woke her up.
As she worked on the knots around his neck and shoulders, he felt himself relax completely into her hold. It wasn’t often he let himself go like that, but this was a safe spot and he knew the Lysander reputation well enough to know that if they had his back on the battlefield, then they’d have his back here as well. He wasnt even aware when he started purring deep in his chest.
Biting her lip to keep herself in check, Yvette took a breath through her nose and calmed down, instead focusing on the rhythm of it and eventually her own body rocked to the movement. She didn’t hum like her sister, so the only sound was the soft ‘scritch scritch’ when she went through his hair, his purring and soft groans when she did something particularly good. Eventually, her wrists and fingers started to cramp and she gave him a couple of pets to smooth his hair down after messing it up, “I think he’ll be fine if you wanna crash,” she whispered in his ear so not to startle him from his reverie.
It sounded like a good idea, but Dante decided against it, shaking his head minutely and then pulling himself out of the trance. “Nah, but thanks for the moment.” He told her sincerely. “It’s been a while.”
“More than welcome,” she looked at the window. Sunrise. “You cool if I do, then?”
“Go for it,” Dante assured. “I got this.”
X
It was much later in the afternoon. Nico wasn’t at all surprised to know that the apartment was still crowded as hell from the appearance of a couple of witches and Vergil coming back from wherever the hell he was. It was enough of a crowd that made her go back into the garage to fix the damn van that they used for mobile calls. She wandered out, cigarette already in her hand and ready for a lighter when she noticed a shadow coming across the garage.
Great, it was going to be Nero and Vergil all over again, wasn’t it? “Hey psycho!” Nico called to the shadow that paused. “Stop loitering! Either get yer ass in here or leave.”
Here’s the thing, Nico was expecting a demon. She was expecting someone to go under the door, weapon out and she would have to call for Nero to save her dumbass and Nero would never let her live it down for weeks. What she wasn’t expecting was a curvy goth pinup girl. She was a gorgeous piece of work and Nico could appreciate it when she saw it. “You lookin’ for something?”
“Not really a something.” The girl said, her voice soothing. Nico wondered who would out mom the other: this woman or Kyrie. “I’m looking for someone that runs Devil May Cry. Is that you?”
“Girl, you came to the right place with a bunch of us hoarding around a coffee table. Only you also picked terrible timing since one of us is down for the count and we’re all losing our heads over him.” Nico said, bringing the cigarette to her mouth to inhale and then exhale the smoke. “What did you do? Summon a demon you can’t get rid of? Pretending you’re a witch?”
The pained expression on the woman’s face told Nico that she hit some nails on the head, but not all of them. “Not me.” The girl said, and now that Nico was getting a closer look at her, damn. This girl knew how to put on makeup.
“Your eyeliner looks like it can cut a bitch.” Nico complimented. “Come upstairs. I’ll get the morons.”
“Thanks.” The girl smiled, and Nico snubbed out the cigarette before guiding her back up to the apartment.
“So, what’s your name?” Nico asked conversationally as she shoved the door open.
“Alexina.”
“How many nicknames you got outta that name?”
“I’m still counting to this day.” Alexina sighed.
Nico whistled. “Lucky I only get the one. Oi! Loser!” She called into the apartment. “I got a job for you hot shit!”
“Be more specific on the ‘loser’ part, Nico-nee,” Yvette chirped and Kyrie smacked her chest with the back of her hand. The two lighter brunettes were indeed sitting ‘round the coffee table.
“Customer?” Kyrie eyed Alexina and immediately she frowned, “What do you take? Coffee or tea?”
“Don’t know if customer’s the right word, but uh...I normally take a coffee.” Alexina said turning towards Kyrie. “Thank you.”
“OI!” Nico shouted again.
“I HEARD YOU THE FIFTH TIME!” Nero’s voice rang through the apartment and Alexina blinked as the boy in question walked down the stairs. His hair was short, and he looked...young. Younger than Alexina thought he was. Maybe they wouldn’t have a clue. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. He glanced at the girl that was standing beside Nico and gave her only a once over. “Sorry about my mechanic.” He said. “She’s usually better trained than this.”
Nico casually flipped him off. “I’m goin’ back downstairs in case the van’s needed. Y'all let me know where I need to head.” She said as she walked off without another word.
If there was one thing Nero couldn’t do, it was talking to strangers. Customer service was not his thing still. Kyrie could handle them so much better, and Dante was probably heading down here since Charlotte was taking over watching his dad.
“So,” Nero said slowly as he sat down on the coffee table, leaning a bit forward. “How may I help?”
“It’s more or less a question that I have,” Alexina said slowly. “Do you know anything about demon summoning.”
“I am not summoning a damn thing,” Nero said bluntly.
“I’m not asking you to, I’m asking if you knew anything about it.” Alexina held her hands up. “As in. Do you know to reverse a deal.”
Yvette was intrigued, but she didn’t want to steal Nero’s thunder so she simply listened. Kyrie was bustling about getting coffee in the coffee maker, but she peered over her shoulder, “We might be able to answer that better if you explain to us what happened.”
Nero watched the woman for a moment. The way she lifted her hand up to the tooth that was around her neck. How she fingered and played with it as she thought. “Someone close to you made a deal huh.” He didn’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that out. “That sucks.”
Her lips twitched. “It was my fault.” The bluntness of the statement took Nero back a bit. “I was sick. He thought it was a good idea. The only idea. Summoned a demon and now he’s the one suffering. Apparently, his energy and demon energy aren’t...he’s not a witch. I at least don’t think he is. I don’t know his bloodline, he’s an orphan, see. Clearly, something’s going wrong with whatever the deal was.”
“How?”
“Best way to describe it is that he can force the energy to create familiars. I’ve only met two of them, but there’s three.” Alexina said softly. “Griffon’s alright. Mouthy and a bitch, but he’s alright. Shadow’s a huge cat, and I don’t have any problems but...I don’t know it’s a bad feeling in my gut that tells me something’s wrong.”
“If I may?” Yvette piped up, looking at Nero for permission. It was never a bad thing to follow Char’s rule about not sticking their noses in the business of Devil May Cry, but ‘witch’ and ‘demon deal’ in the same breath of conversation wasn’t a good sign.
“Go for it.” Nero gestured.
“Did your friend happen to mention to you that a summoning for a normal person isn’t supposed to work?” Yvette went right to the point.
Alexina sucked in a sharp breath. Nero had a feeling that the friend probably glossed over that fact, but Alexina was a sharp cookie. “I figured as much.” She said after a moment. “I study the occult for fun.”
“I bet your friend does, too,” she rubbed her forehead, “An orphan, yet you’re sure he’s not a witch. It’s rare as fuck, but not unheard of for a modern witch to start a new line. There was a lot more magic and raw force and energy back when my bloodline started. Could you tell me more about him so I can piece this together?”
“Admittedly, I’m the bookworm when it comes to the occult. He’s more of the...poet. Literally. I met him back in high school.” She sat down on the edge of the couch, smoothing out her skirt. “We have one of those friendships where you can ask us how we met and we’ll have several different stories. What I do remember was that he stood out and blended in. Quiet. Honest. But only if you ask. Only if you even try.” She rubbed her lips together, smearing the dark raspberry color around but nothing too rough. “Mom died after we graduated. We moved in together since we were the only family we had left. But then I got sick.” There was a long pause. “He thought I was going to die.”
Kyrie listened as Yvette only hummed at first as she went quiet, sinking into her chair, forefinger over her mouth and spinning the ring on her thumb. Putting together the coffee, taking Alexina in and making a good hard guess on how she liked it, she brought it over, “He had a purpose.”
“My life means more to him.” Alexina agreed as she took the coffee cup. “I called him out on it when I was in the hospital, but...he was adamant it was the only way and that he wasn’t going to...walk away. He was ready for me to. Griffon told me that later on when he wasn’t around to overhear. I know it’ll mean my death.” She looked at Nero firm. “But I’m a fighter. I’ve been around chronic illness all my life, I can do it again.”
Nero looked over at Yvette.
“If there’s a reverse I’d have to research it and ask my sister to help, but in all actuality, it may not be as much of a pressing matter as you think.” She tapped her chin, “He’s a poet so he’s eloquent. Had a strong definite purpose. Was no doubt willing to accept death if you lived. That’s the problem a lot of modern wannabes don’t have the solid willpower. A sliver of doubt at any given moment during their attempted rituals and it fails. Or they summon something and it doesn’t end well. He’s still around and here you are, healthy as all can be. Then there are his familiars. They sound kind. Protectors. What he did was profound. That’s more than a success. That’s a triumph.”
“As much as you’re singing praise,” Nero couldn’t help this part. “You’re talking about an untrained witch running around with three familiars that we don’t know what they can do. As well as, what price did he pay for it?”
Yvette smacked her forehead with the heel of her hand, “This is why Char is around. I’m hairbrained as fuck. Thanks and sorry. Yeah, a brand-spankin' new witch is sure to draw attention. Where the hell do you guys live?”
“Across town, on the outskirts of the city.” Alexina nodded her head towards a direction. “We like the quiet.”
“I bet you do,” Nero muttered. There were hardly ever any attacks on the outskirts. Not a lot of humans, not a lot of chaos. Now that there was a witch there, he could expect that to grow. “It sounds like me to it’s not much a reversal, but we can do something to help with his powers. That’s a start. While he harnesses those, it might slow down whatever price he made right?” He looked at Yvette. “Or do you think that’ll speed it up?”
“No, no, you’re on the right track. Smart kid,” Yvette beamed at him, “Training helps strengthen the spirit as well as the body. Being a poet will end up being useful if he wants to learn spells. Hell, his favorite poems could be spells if he damn well wanted them to be.”
“He’s stubborn enough I’m sure,” Alexina said dryly. “I’m not sure how to bring him here without him getting suspicious. Hell, he’s probably wondering where I’m at as we speak.”
“You didn’t tell him you were doing this?”
“He didn’t exactly ask me for my permission when he summoned a demon so I think this is more than fair.” Alexina shrugged.
“Yeah, definitely fair. You say you live crosstown? I kinda live in the middle of there and here, and if you’d like you could make up some bullshit story how you heard about my little cleansing business and I can drop by your place?”
Without another word, Alexina pulled out her phone from her purse and tossed it to Yvette. “Type in your number and I can text you the address. I’m on Seaside.” At her confused look, Alexina frowned. “You know, past the intersection of Dwight and Morningstar?” Another confused look. “You are terrible with directions aren’t you.”
“That’s why Charlotte’s my GPS.” Yvette deadpanned but she fiddled with Alexina’s phone and put in her contact information as well as her sister’s for good measure, “Pay me for gas and it’s all good. Curiosity's got me too good for me to care much about pricing.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Alexina assured as she set the half-drunk coffee cup onto the table and she looked at Nero. “I hope whoever’s injured is feeling better soon.” She said gently as she stood up. “I should take my leave before I get a phone call and Griffon squawking.”
“Yeah,” Nero said watching her leave the apartment and he turned to Yvette. “I never heard of anyone summoning a demon and living to tell about it. Either this friend of hers is a witch, or he’s part-demon of some sort.”
“I’m voting neither, but he did make himself a witch with the summoning. Believe what you want, kiddo, but I’m gunna go with my witchy instincts on this one.”
“Go for it, at least it’s not my job. I’d fuck this all up.” Nero shrugged as he got off the coffee table. “I’m going to check in on father and Charlotte. I bet she’ll be curious too. About this mysterious friend of Alexina’s that can summon a demon and get familiars out of it.”
“Might as well tell Dante there’s coffee,” Kyrie smiled at him, “I’m sure he’ll appreciate it after not sleeping all night.”
“I’ll bring him a cup.” Nero agreed as he went to her side and pressed a kiss against her cheek before heading to the kitchen to grab that cup of coffee that Kyrie made and go back upstairs where people were.
It bothered him to no end really. He’d do the same for Kyrie, no question if their situation had been the same as those two. Yet, he couldn’t shake off this feeling that her friend was going to be a lot more dangerous than any demon he saw yet.
He should’ve taken the time to ask Alexina what she even knew about demons. Oh well.
X
So far, the constant pain and agony had mostly gone away. His back was the source of it, still soaking in the antidote, but his body ached. Charlotte had been kind and brought him a glass of water, so his throat wasn’t parched and feeling like a desert, either. Propped against the pillows, Vergil had his ankles crossed in front of him and his personal book in his lap Dante had retrieved from his coat. Not for the first time and certainly not the last time he was grateful for his demonic healing, though he wouldn’t be fully well for at least a few more days.
Charlotte had taken refuge in a seat, curled into a ball that looked uncomfortable but she made no noises of complaint and she barely spoke, though sometimes she’d leaned her head towards Vergil when she heard him mutter a line under his breath, but never asked to repeat it or to speak up. The door opened and she looked up. “Hey, Nero. Dante’s in the shower.”
“I figured.” Nero sighed as he handed her the coffee instead. “You get this then.” He watched her take it from his hands and curled up even more with it. “How are you doing, pops?” Nero turned his attention to Vergil.
“Being weak is not something I enjoy, but…” Vergil examined the same hand that had reached out to Nero yesterday in the garage, no longer grey and black-veined, though he was still too pale for anyone’s liking, “...I am doing well. Charlotte’s antidote is working on healing my back now.”
“That’s good,” Nero said as he looked at his father. He looked a lot better than yesterday, but the image still burned into his mind. Of the flecking skin, and the black veins. He turned towards Charlotte. “So I got a question for you. Know anything about demon summonings?”
“I’ve done a few in my lifetime.” Charlotte pulled her shirt down to show a long scar down her neck and chest. “I learned my lesson. Why?”
“You’re going to go on a wild trip with this one. Apparently, there’s a girl who has a friend, not saying names here cuz she didn’t give me any, who not only successfully summoned a demon but made a deal with it, too.” Nero clicked his tongue. “Vet’s playing detective.”
“Of course she is.” Charlotte sipped the coffee.
“A common occurrence?” Vergil turned his head only slightly to look at her, “You don’t seem at all concerned.”
“It’s Vetty.” Charlotte turned towards Vergil this time. “The only time I need to get concerned is when she bites off more than she can chew. Otherwise, it’s if there’s a big demon she’s probably near it.” She turned to Nero. “I get the feeling that “successful demon summoning” line has a story behind it.”
“Yeah. Friend’s not a witch until now.” Nero concluded.
“That’s where everything goes to hell.” Charlotte sighed. “Whoever the friend is walked over my grave.”
“That is an interesting turn of phrase.” Vergil drawled, his attention seemingly returning to his book, “So will you be off, then? Duty’s done, after all.”
“Hmmm.” Charlotte shrugged. “I’ll let my sister suffer. Give her free reign. See what she comes up with.”
“A damaged car and a broken ego.”
“See if Vetty was here to hear that, you’d be window flying right now.” Charlotte gestured towards the window using her coffee cup, grinning at Nero. She looked over at Vergil. “I’ll stay here and be back up for once.”
Nero looked between the two of them, made a soft noise and then headed out towards the door. “Tension is tension. I know where I’m not needed.”
Vergil knew everyone wanted answers, and he was secretly surprised that Charlotte had decided to stay. “I know not all sibling relationships are like mine and Dante’s. You do not have to remain here, the danger has passed.”
She turned her attention towards him and she sipped on the coffee once more. “Is this you asking me to leave, or is this you wondering why I’m staying?”
“Stay because you want to, not because you feel you should.” Vergil answered instead, flipping the page of his book even as his eyes read not the words, “I only have a problem if it is unnecessary, but I cannot stop you from doing what you please, same as I cannot stop Dante from eating pizza morning noon and night.”
“Stick pineapples on it and olives.” Charlotte unfolded herself from the chair. “I’ll go ahead and take your advice then and come by later. I’m stealing Dante’s cup of coffee regardless.”
A whisper of a smirk graced his face, “That’s more like it.”
“I can be a mastermind of evil too.” Charlotte grinned as she walked towards the door. “You owe me a page of reading though.” She grinned wider as she shut the door behind her.
“Xina. What did you do?” While their lives didn’t necessarily have a rhyme or reason, Vitale liked to believe he knew this particular woman like the back of his hand. The first tickbox that alerted him something was out of the ordinary was her long absence. He knew when she visited her usual haunts. Since making the deal, feeling her energy stretch at different distances had fascinated him and gave him an odd sense of comfort. Today, however, she had gone far enough out of reach it nearly set him into a panic attack and Griffon’s constant stream of words had been his only distraction. The following tick box had been her attitude. Aloof might be the best word he had at the moment.
“V almost had a heart attack because you went too far.” Griffon echoed his thoughts exactly, appearing without being commanded to and landing on Xina’s shoulder. “Shakespeare didn’t know if you were going to go be gone for good this time or what!”
“Sorry.” Alexina reached and scratched Griffon’s back, letting him ruffle his feathers before turning towards her best friend. “I went to the city.” She promised. “You know. Looking for answers.” She looked over at her friend. He looked exhausted, tired circles were gentle around his eyes and he was holding himself up well, but she could tell that he wanted to topple over. She felt guilty that she had made him worry so much. She felt her heart sink into her stomach as she watched him watch her. A long time ago, Alexina wouldn’t have to question what was going through his mind. Now, she felt as though she was reaching and feeling the air.
“Answers...about me?” V pressed his hand to his chest, brow pinching. He was well aware all of this still bothered her, even three, nearly four months later and his attempts at comforting her didn’t always work. “I’m still here, Xina. Life still goes on.”
Instead of answering, Alexina closed the distance and threw herself into a hug. Griffon let out a cackle as he flew upwards and away from the two lovebirds. At least, he knew they were. Griffon watched as V slowly brought her closer against his chest, letting her in. It’s been months since the summoning, and Griffon was starting to tell that something was on the brink of changing. Whatever Alexina did, it was either bad or good and Griffon wasn’t about to say a word. Let V figure it out.
He was still here. She could practically squeeze the life out of him since he was so skinny and bony. He always had that type of body, but with the deal, she wondered if one day he’d turn into dust and disappear on the wind. She pulled away, trying to find her courage, her bravery. He was here for now. Life would go on as normal, but she had to obey her instincts. Nothing about this was normal. Normal people can’t summon. What he did was a success, a triumph. “I won’t lie to you. I found a witch.”
Griffon let out an uncomfortable sound at that.
V’s eyes found Griffon’s, “Is that supposed to mean something?”
“It means pretty boy that she might’ve found a way to go back into that coffin in the grave you’ve been keeping her away from.” Griffon translated.
“Not yet.” Alexina gave Griffon a dark look. “What it means is that I might have found someone that we can talk to. Someone for advice.”
“Not yet means you’re thinking it.” V frowned, “Good people for advice? What advice do you believe they have for me?”
That was the question, wasn’t it? She reached for his hand and took it into hers, biting her lip as she tried to find a way to explain. “They were impressed that you were able to gain familiars and to do a successful summoning. That has to mean something, V.”
“She’s not wrong there pretty boy,” Griffon concluded. “We already established, sweetheart, he’s not a witch.”
“No, but what if he’s the start?” Alexina turned towards Griffon. “Or what if there’s a lineage somewhere that we don’t know. Yvette was pretty sure that was the case.”
“Oh boy,” Griffon shuddered. “Lysander Sisters are back. More trouble.”
Of course, Griffin would know them or know of them. V squeezed Alexina’s hand back, albeit not very enthusiastic, “Should I be concerned for you, Griffon?” He wasn’t about to give up his deal, and he would protect his familiars as he swore to protect Alexina.
“Awww Shakespeare, you’re melting my stone cold heart.” Griffon chirped. “They’re strong witches, but nothing that we can’t handle. No, I’d worry more about Hathaway over there. They can help you, pretty boy, but they’ll toss her to the fire. Try to get her to be a demon hunter or some shit.”
“Demon hunter?” V muttered. He wasn’t entirely sure how he should feel about that. Letting out a long sigh he looked down at Xina, “Did you have plans with the witch you found?”
“I didn’t say anything about them showing up but they might?” Alexina offered.
“Lysander’s don’t believe in schedules. They do what they want.” Griffon ruffled his feathers. “They’re no worse than the Sparda family. Show up, do their thing, walk away with property damage. Do you two have insurance? 'Cause you might need that. Especially if little Lysander’s going to be coming over.”
“She’s not that bad,” Alexina assured quickly. “Don’t listen to him, V. Yvette’s not...that insane.”
Unfortunately, V was more inclined to believe Griffon on that one, but he nodded to Alexina anyway. Might as well see how it would go and make his own conclusions.
im so sorry for not posting anything guys, I feel like a failure lately. I started this new job at a restaurant, washing dishes and its killing my body and im wracked with stress and pain every single night, but idk how to quit and tbh im extremely broke and poor rn. Idk how im keeping afloat. ever since my best friend died ive been a mess really, the guilt I feel is immense, and it is constant. I keep forgetting she is dead, that I can still call her in times of hardship that i can see her again but i cant and never will. its hard, because I’m nero divergent, my undiagnosed autistic ass has never been capable of “friends” and many times the friendships ive been in have ended rather shortly. She was the first person after highschool that really put an effort into my friendship, she was someone i looked up to. I had always wanted an older sister, my mom neglected me a lot and I think I yearned for a female figure that was close to my age to look and turn to for advice and comfort. Tasha was the first person I felt that way towards where in a way she taught me so much and showed me what I wanted in my life. She was inspiring and the things she did looked effortless. I think the saddest part the part i feel most guilty about it is that I consistently had a feeling it would happen snd that I took her trauma and made it my own, her issues I so badly wanted for myself and to this day im not sure why? I know she understands and wouldn’t hold it against me but I wish I made things right. I wish I could ask her if she also saw me as her best friend, if she thought about me at all in her final moments, if shes looking on me now
