The Most Memorable Anime Dance Sequences of All Time!
Anime is an amazing medium because of the way things flow and look on screen, like when action sequences suck us in with amazing animation and quieter scenes can stun with captivating visuals. Perhaps one of the least appreciated parts of anime, though, are the amazing dance sequences that can pop up in our favorite shows and even in their opening and endings. Dance can really be an amazing medium on its own, and with the right animation and music, anime dances can seem almost magical! But which ones are the best? I’ve gathered what I think are the 10 best overall anime dance sequences, and I’m ranking them based on their style, choreography, and their overall ability to stick in our minds. If you’re looking for a new dance to try out with your friends at a cosplay gathering for this year’s con circuit, or maybe you just appreciate a good dance as much as I do, hit the dance floor and get ready to show off some sick moves!
10) Kill Me Baby Ending Dance Sequence
Coming in at number 10, I’ve got the dance from the Kill Me Baby ending theme “The True Secret of Our Feelings.” This unique duet encapsulates the odd mood and style of the series, with a unique blend of comedy that is wholly its own. While it is a unique and quirky dance, that’s the reason I found it so memorable! Seeing this dance at the end of every episode was a great way to cap off any episode, as well as a great little bit of music and dancing that captured what Kill Me Baby was all about: weird, cute comedy! One of the things I really appreciated about this dance was the way that the moves keep specific timing with the beat, which really showed a level of though similar to the sometimes subtle punchlines of the show.
9) Sgt. Frog Ending Dance Sequence
Fittingly at number 9 spot is the 9th ending song of Sgt. Frog, “Spinning, Turning, Once Around!” When this song hit during the anime’s broadcast, it became a huge sensation online, spawning lots of people doing their own group renditions of the dance. At first it might seem like the song is more memorable and catchy than the dance, which is why it’s a bit lower on our list than others, but the dance itself is quite fun and actually very subtle! Much of it is focused on specific, timed movements between a group, and keeping up that manic pace as the song’s tempo increases is part of the fun. The parody videos people have made are almost as entertaining as the original (especially to see how people interpreted Tamama’s entrance into the ending!), so for that reason alone I knew I had to put it on this list.
8) Free - Iwatobi Swim Club-'s Ending Sequence
Free! -Iwatobi Swim Club- certainly made a huge splash (sorry, not sorry) when it hit the scene a few years ago, and people were instantly sucked into the sports and non-sport drama of the swim club boys. But perhaps one of the most memorable parts of the series was it's absolutely off the wall ending sequence, featuring cast members alternating between dancing in a night club and an Arabian themed hunt for an oasis! While some might argue that certain viewers were more interested in the amount of abs on display in the ending, I’ll say that while that was great, the oddball dance sequence and fun visuals of the ending are what really caught our attention. Free! itself seems to have owned up to the silliness of the first ending, as the recent movie had the guys creating a themed recruitment video in something of a fun callback to the original season’s ending visuals. The night club scene was so popular, it even inspired some neat merchandise for fans to buy! And while fans will probably argue over who the best Free! boy is, I have to say that Haru’s hair flipping to the beat in this ending is pretty show stealing!
7) Carnival Phantasm's Opening Dance Sequence
The TYPE-MOON series Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime have spawned countless fans between all of the various versions of anime spin offs from the original games, but none perhaps captured the madcap silliness the fandom had invented better than the Carnival Phantasm series. A selection of comical shorts featuring characters from both the Fate and Tsukihime series, the show kicked off each episode with a high energy and catchy theme song that was accompanied by the main characters of each series dancing along in time. Seeing Saber, Rin, Arcueid and many others dancing cutely was enough to get this on our list, but the huge group dance scenes in between those really helped cement this one in place. Carnival Phantasm was filled with callbacks to events in both series, their anime, and even long-time in jokes, and the opening copied that as well, with odd little easter eggs for careful viewers to spot. Although Carnival Phantasm never got an official release outside of Japan, the opening song was popular enough to inspire some fan reactions. If you take a look at it, let us know if you can spot the Assassin cut-out…!
6) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable Opening Dance Sequence
As much as I would like to put this next entry on the list with “Koichi pose” and leave it at that, there’s definitely more to be said about this one. Our number 6 spot goes to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable’s first opening song, “Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town,” featuring cast members dancing along to the song as they introduce themselves. Diamond is Unbreakable really exuded a specific bouncy charm and vibrancy to it that made it different from previous JoJo seasons, and this opening song really helped to sell that mood. Starting off with Josuke, Koichi, Jotaro and Okuyasu on a stage like a boy band, the song kept up that high energy throughout, making it a catchy tune with somewhat even more memorable dance moves. Although it isn’t as thoroughly choreographed as some of our other entries, it would be hard to really forget certain scenes here, and the way it fits the series is a huge plus to us.
5) Blood Blockade Battlefront Ending Dance Sequence
youtube
Blood Blockade Battlefront was a series that dripped style from the way it was animated to the character designs, and the ending theme, “Sugar Song and Bitter Step,” had an amazing segue of dancing scenes that really helped cement that in our minds. Much like Sgt. Frog, the ending of Blood Blockade Battlefront spawned lots of homage videos from fan artists and cosplayers recreating the dance steps with their own unique takes on it. Perhaps one of the most memorable bits of the whole sequence, though, is the way in which it helped sell character interactions and relationships even in the ending song; watching the various ways Zapp interacted with people, for example, or the little cues to season one’s major plot points in various parts was a hidden treat that rewarded keen viewers attention. The song itself matches the jazzy dance steps and costuming as well, making it an overall catchy and fun sequence to watch over and over again!
4) Uta no Prince Sama Ending Dance Sequence
Considering that it’s a series about handsome idols doing amazing song and dance routines, it probably doesn’t surprise you to see Uta no Prince Sama’s “Maji Love 2000%” make it onto our list at number 4. The dance is so fluid and stylish that you could easily see a real idol group easily perform something similar, and the accompanying fan screams during specific moments really made the whole scene amazing. Plus, as the pay off to a tense and dramatic season finale, the whole dance really felt like an amazing reward for viewers to see. I’ll be honest with you all: there are a few scenes in this dance that I enjoy quite a lot, and it probably isn’t hard to figure out why! If you like your idols handsome and with good rhythm, you should consider checking out Uta no Prince Sama!
3) Vegeta's Bingo Dance from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods
This next dance caught us so off guard when I first saw it that I think you’ll agree it deserves a high place on our list: Vegeta’s bingo dance! First seen in the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods movie and then again in the Dragon Ball Super anime adaptation of it, Vegeta’s desperate attempt to distract Beerus from destroying Earth was perhaps never so apparent as it was in this madcap dance sequence. Vegeta’s improvisational song and dance are pretty amazing on their own, but perhaps the most memorable thing about them is what it meant for the Dragon Ball series as a whole: a marked shift in Vegeta’s character and personality. Super really focused heavily on Vegeta’s growth early on, letting us see his change from the cold hearted and distant “Prince of all Saiyans” of Dragon Ball Z into a man who, while still surly, really cares for his family and other people enough to throw away his pride and put on a ridiculous dance to save the day. I love Dragon Ball Super and I love Vegeta, and this dance really just put a big bow on why!
2) Torture Dance from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind
A relative newcomer compared to the rest of the list, our number 2 spot goes to that torture dance scene from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind! One of the best things an anime adaptation can do is take things that it’s source material did, and give it a unique spin that only an animated series can do, and David Production really knocked it out of the park with this! Changing a single page set of panels into a minute long visual trip was amazing! It also gave us a little fun insight into the relationships of the Bucciarati gang; we see goofball Narancia start off, only to have the slightly more serious Mista join in, followed by the extremely high strung Fugo working together in perfect harmony as their torture target suffers in the background. The original song, “Canonzi Preferite,” created to go along with the dance is another great touch, as are the trippy visuals between dance steps. It’s a real treat to watch this dance scene over and over again, and it’s something that really helped me find my love for Part 5 immediately!
1) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Ending Dance Sequence
If you’ve read this far and asked “Where is it?” you’ve probably already predicted what's in the #1 spot: the famous “Hare Hare Yukai” dance from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya! It may be hard to imagine that it’s been over 13 years (ohmygod, it’s been THAT LONG?) since this song first hit the anime world like a tidal wave, and it’s dance soon became a convention staple for groups of cosplayers! It’s hard to deny the memories of seeing fan renditions of the dance pop up on the early days of social media, and the enduring popularity of the dance sequence really says all there is to say about why it’s my number one pick. Even if we discounted the history now attached to the dance, it’s hard to argue that there’s a stronger contender on our list; the song is matched perfectly by the movements of the cast, and it gives off an air of natural movement that’s hard to match! Many other dances on our list are broken up by other strings of animation stills or cut aways, Hare Hare Yukai got an entire minute of pure dancing down the line, with impressive choreography considerations for its age. It’s pretty hard to deny: Haruhi is still on top when it comes to dancing!
And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this collection of amazing anime dance sequences, and if you feel so inclined, maybe you can dance along yourself at home or at your next convention outing. Just remember to limber up, practice, and dance like the blinds are closed; after all, dancing is about having fun, so hit the floor and get to it!
Have a dance that you think should be on this list? Let us know in the comments!

KOKIA in Nagoya Blue Note [2018.08.11], first stage review
Hi everyone!
I got back from Nagoya, and there's something I want to get wordy about. You see, KOKIA held a performance at Nagoya Blue Note today, and I was lucky enough to get to attend the first stage. Naturally, I want to tell you all about it, so my review follows below the cut!
Without further ado, first the set list (from memory, but I’m fairly confident about it):
Bye bye blackbird Tenki ga ii, biiru o nomou (’the weather’s nice, let’s drink a beer’) Power of smile/the girl from Ipanema Kangaroo pocket Kirin (’Giraffe’) Waraenai hanashi (’a story not for laughing’) Obake ga kowai nante (’ghosts aren’t really scary’) What a wonderful world Moment ~ima o ikiru~ (’live in the now’) kono chikyuu ga marui okage de (’thanks to this planet being round’) Summertime
The setting was really intimate, like a jazz bar. I was on the left of the stage in the front, close to the pianist, and close enough to touch the stage if I were to lie on the ground here, haha. Pianist, bassist, guitarist and drummer all entered the stage before KOKIA went up herself. I think this is the first time I've seen her wearing pants, with a glittery top this time. It fit the casual atmosphere.
I was right with my jazz reference as she started with bye bye blackbird, a cover song I haven't heard live from her yet and in fact, I'm fairly sure she hasn't performed it in a while to begin with? The sounds were light and upbeat, getting us in the mood for a comfortable afternoon.
I think it was after this song that she started referring to the hot summer weather, as the next song was very aptly titled: tenk ga ii, biiru o nomou: the weather's good, let's drink a beer, haha. (You needed to get at least one drink here along with your ticket.) It's from the new album, Tokyo mermaid, and fit right in the jazzy and light hearted flow that blackbird had started. She got her band members to join in on the occasional cheer halfway through the song, haha. After that, she mentioned the drink she had as a specialty for today, since we should be in the mood for drinks on this hot, hot summer day, obviously! (I definitely agree. In the mean while, I had barely touched my iced tea yet because I was so enthralled already, haha. ) She then asked for us to enjoy the next song, after which the pianist started a song I didn't immediately recognize at first. Then she started singing and it clicked: blast from the past, Power of Smile! It was, again, a more jazz inspired version of the song, pretty similar to the version she rearranged for her best of album pearl, subtitled a gentle breeze. I loved KOKIA's own smile as she delivered this song, light and sweet. Halfway through, we were in for a surprise: the song morphed to English, and then KOKIA covered girl from Ipanema. That was a very fun surprise! Next up, she talked about how much fun she's had with her upcoming album, ikimono no ongakkai (concert of living beings), part 2 of her animal series. She already teased about a preview and indeed, she mentioned the kangaroo and its pocket, which she identified with because you can just swing your child around in a pocket in front of you like that, haha. So next up, the kangaroo song, Kangaroo pocket! It was still kind of jazzy and the lyrics went a catchy "kangaroo-roo-roo pocket", and she did the whole swinging thing too, haha. So cute! The first animal album was quite a change from her previous works as it's explicitly intended to also be enjoyed by little children, so there are also a lot of animal noises in there which was apparently a lot of fun in rehearsals. We weren't yet done with the animals! I actually felt the song sounded a bit like the giraffe song from her first animal album in terms of general atmosphere, and in keeping with that atmosphere, we got - the giraffe song! (Actually, considering giraffe is Kirin in Japanese which is also a beer brand, I'm wondering as I type this whether she was still trying to get us to drink, hmmm.)
Of course, she also came back to her most recently released album, Tokyo Mermaid, which she's really proud of and she hopes that those who haven't gotten it yet would give it a listen. For now the appetizer: two songs from the album! I must confess I am not super familiar to all songs yet, so I had to rely on the lyrics to identify Waraenai hanashi (’not a story to laugh about’). The sound of it brings me back to earlier albums, and although it is a song that didn’t stick out to me right away, it got stuck with me now. And then, she started a song I immediately did recognize because it's the first one from the album and also one that I latched on almost instantly: obake ga kowai nante (ghosts aren't really scary). From what I heard from the DVD preview, she slowed it down considerably for the 20th anniversary concert, but this was the normal rhythm. I think it could be a pretty sad song, but she kept her smile and the song felt light instead. I really love this song and i was so glad she'd put it on today's set list!
Next up was a song with mostly just KOKIA and piano, which is a combination that always makes me happy. This was a song all of you know: What a wonderful world. She sings it a bit slower than the original, but so kind and sweet. I feel like her English has improved a lot over the years, and she definitely knows what she's singing, as she gestured and smiled knowingly when the lyrics about children growing up came up.
With the intro of the next song however, I immediately perked up because I knew this one very, very well. I think she's performed it every time I've seen her live, which is a blessing, because this was moment ~ima o ikiru~ (live in the now), which is an impressive song on its own but even more amazing live. Gone was the light tone of the previous songs: suddenly, the small venue seemed much, much too small to hold her powerful voice as she didn't hold back. I really tried not to cry, because this song hits me hard, but KOKIA looked almost straight at me when she was looking at her pianist for cues and I didn't want to cry on her, haha. This was marvelous. The lights swelled with the song, she effortlessly held her ridiculously long tone (last time I remembered to record it, I clocked it at 22 seconds!), and just - wow. That's not the most insightful review ever, but I'm just so blown away every time, especially contrasting the previous songs. Although KOKIA is without a doubt a professional and at ease on stage, it was like she just let loose all of the reins to deliver on moment, and delivering she did. I barely remembered to sip my drink as she took the microphone again for a talk.
She mentioned her upcoming concerts, of which there are a LOT (trust me, I run a fan blog and I've been having trouble keeping it up to date this year, haha), but the first ones up will be in China. Not entirely coincidentally I suspect, her next song was kono chikyuu ga marui okage de (thanks to this planet being round). This is a song that swells, although not quite as much as moment, haha. I really like it though.
It definitely was a little earlier, but KOKIA also mentioned the last time she performed here in Nagoya, which was last year’s birthday live show, when the audience apparently started singing Happy Birthday to her. The pianist tried to sing it now too, but shied away once he was offered the microphone, haha.
I think it was during this time that KOKIA started to thank the musicians, but we weren't done just yet: suddenly, she picked up the tempo and the volume, as the final song felt too big to be contained in such a small space, wow. KOKIA really is an amazing singer: she sounds like it's effortless live, and this was no exception. The song was English and very appropriately Summertime, though definitely a more powerful and slightly more up-tempo than the versions I can find online (I don’t know a lot of jazz, okay, sorry about that, haha) .
And suddenly, it was over, just like that. I mean, it makes sense since she has two performances today, but I was still overwhelmed by her performance and kind of meekly sipped on my iced tea while people around me were getting up. As it turned out, there was a shop with merchandise, and it was still open! When I went over to check, we noticed KOKIA sitting in the next room over - she was having an signature session. Ohhh boy! I mean, with how small the venue was I was hoping for it, but being able to see KOKIA this close and getting to talk to her twice within a year was a bit much for my heart, haha.
I'm a spoiled brat who already had all the albums for sale, but I did spot the normal version of her 20th anniversary best of album, which has a lovely but completely different cover and packaging from the special edition (which I had pre-ordered, because come on, have we met). So I ended up buying an album I already have (technically twice even, since it's a collection), but it did mean I could queue up! Keeping with the atmosphere, this session was much more up close and laid back than the Christmas concert back in December (but honestly, I was already amazed she held an autograph session at all back then, given how huge that venue was). KOKIA was seated at a high table putting her at eye level, and the queue was so short I was getting fidgety trying to remove the packaging as quickly as possible, haha. And suddenly I was at the front, and she seemed pleasantly surprised to see me (I'm fairly sure I was one of the very few obviously foreigners here today, at least from what I saw). I thanked her profusely for today (I never quite know what to express but gratitude when it comes to KOKIA), and we actually got to talk a bit. I mentioned I was from the Netherlands, and she was impressed with my language skills since, as my blog demonstrates (and she knows it's there!), I speak at least 3 languages, haha. I'm not quite as fluent as I wish in Japanese, but this talk went pretty alright with some help here and there. I explained that moment as a song meant a lot to me and asked her to sign the booklet at that page, and she wrote it out to my name with a smiley face, hee. There were still people waiting for their turn, so I thanked her again and got to shake hands before leaving.
And with that, I think I summoned up today's main event pretty well! I'm currently in the train back to my hotel, so I'm typing this on my phone.
Aaand now I’m back at the hotel and have just finished tidying up this review a bit, haha. I hope I didn’t forget to mention anything, but I’ll stalk twitter a bit for the other fan reviews there.
Thanks for reading my rambling thus far and if you’re reading this, KOKIA, thank you again for a wonderful afternoon! It was very different and a sharp contrast from the last live show (when she did a huge hall concert backed up by a full orchestra), but I can’t help but fall in love with your music all over again every time.
See you soon again!

Battle #27
Janet Jackson: Control (Side 2 )
Vs.
Quarterflash : S/T (Side 1 )
Janet Jackson: Control (Side 2 )
Janet Jackson is the youngest child of the very famous Jackson family. The family is a product of “local” upbringing in Gary, Indiana and helped launch the careers of other famous Jacksons, such as Michael. Janet began her career with the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976 and went on to appear in other television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including Good Times and Fame. Other incidents (such as the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction from over a decade ago) are footnotes in her resume as well, but what sets her apart is her music. She got off on that career perhaps slower than her brothers but I think it’s safe to say enjoyed as much if not more success than them in the long run. Signing a recording contract with A&M Records in 1982, she became a pop icon following the release of her third and fourth studio albums Control , and later Rhythm Nation 1814. It’s hard to say which of these two albums had more appeal and success, but they both largely attribute to her setting herself apart. Both figuratively AND literally. With this album, she gained (*ahem) CONTROL (#seewhatididthere) from her family affairs, getting out from under her father’s clutches and attempts to access her fortunes. Janet cited it as one of the hardest things she has ever had to do. Side two may not have all of the BIG hits, but you should recognize a few of the titles, for sure. “The Pleasure Principle” starts off and right away, the dance beats are club worthy and catchy. This was a charting single off the biggest R&B album of 1986. “When I think of You” follows in that success pattern. It’s lighter fanfare but perhaps a more recognized hit. You can probably already imagine the back and forth simplified piano chords. VERY 80’s with the noises and fake key-horns. Even a decent breakdown and it rocks like a lullaby back and forth. The song comes across as honest, which I think is partially true of the whole album and why it sold so well. A laugh at the end helps solidify it all. “He Doesn’t Know I’m Alive” is an emotional tune (which I suppose is to be expected- Janet was only 20 when this came out and most likely written at 18 or 19) It does have a fair share of tooting horns though, too much for me. It’s the please notice me song. Another minor B side charting single follows with “Let’s Wait Awhile”. You would immediately recognize it if you have heard it. Really showcases the pop range of the younger sis. You can really hear the Michael blueprints here though. Even a little scat style vocal is explored. It’s often a record like this (3 or 4 into a career) where the artist seems to be open to exploring new things or just determined to destroy expectations that either really great things happen or really disastrous things. I think in this case Janet came out of her shell and landed on top. “Funny How Time Flys (When You’re Having Fun)” is the last tune. Is it a bonus French jam? At least it sounds foreign at the intro. Slow and jazzy. Lazy Sunday. Acoustic in nature and minimalist In stature. Is it necessary? Probably not, but then again why not? The icing on the cake to all of this is Janet is a soon to be 2019 rock and roll Hall of Fame inductee. She deserves it honestly.
Quarterflash : S/T (Side 1 )
Quarterflash is an American rock group formed in 1980 in Portland, Oregon. The band was originally made up of the two current members, Rindy Ross (lead vocals and saxophone) and her husband Marv Ross (guitars). Along with Jack Charles (guitars), Rick DiGiallonardo (keyboards/synthesizers), Rich Gooch (electric bass), and Brian David Willis (drums and percussion) the rest of the band is formed. Quarterflash is notable for having a lead singer who also played the saxophone. In a 1982 interview, Rindy Ross said that she viewed the saxophone as an extension of her voice, enabling her to express things she could not express with her voice alone. The group was formed by merging two popular Oregon bands, Seafood Mama and Pilot. They originally continued under the name Seafood Mama, and had early success with the song “Harden My Heart”, but thankfully changed to Quarterflash once the song picked up steam and labels took interest. I’m sorry, but GOOD CALL. Can you even imagine a more corny name? Fucking seafood mama?!? What?!!! Even just Seafood would be fine, it’s the addition of mama that makes it lamer than no hush puppies with your Seafood meal. Seafood Mama. GTFO Quarterflash! Why not Pickle Loaf? Bloated Socks? Fetish Meat? Sadly ANY of those are better than Seafood Mama. Wow. Just, wow. But I digress... Quarterflash signed to Geffen Records and released their self-titled debut album Quarterflash in September 1981. By middle 1982 the album had gone platinum. They had a follow up in the works, but in between had singles which ended up on popular soundtracks. Yes, things were looking good for Seafoo...er...Quarterflash. By the middle 80s though they were dropped from their label and disbanded. So that aforementioned chart topper, “Harden My Heart” is the first cut on their debut. Another great choice because it’s a pretty solid tune with a good message about independence. Smooth sax and at the appropriate levels. Not too crazy/lead off sax. Rindy has double duty with both lead vocalist and solo saxophonist in the band, and she’s really good at both. She has a smokey Stevie Nicks kind of voice and it helps to create this early 80s jukebox jam. Empowerment-core! It’s followed up by “Find Another Fool”-another hit in its own right. Maybe not AS big, but it made a splash and helped push the album to platinum. A decent rock level on this one. Plus some angelic harmonies. Berlin (the band) is a sincere comparison. Some violin Shiz too! At one point there is even some sax vs violin call and response. Quarterflash Mama! No denying the talent levels at least. It calms down a bit with “Critical Times” and it’s shhhuuuuuuullloooooooowwwwwww jam tempo. Harsh the buzz for sure. Did the drummer writer this one? (#seewhatididthere). Rindy steps back and one of the dudes take lead vox for this one. “Valerie” sees a return to form though. Rindy is back and the rock ensues. The song sounds vaguely familiar...possibly a radio player? Still, not the strongest or best cut. Definitely the first two for that moniker. “Try To Make It True” is the last and mid paced ballad that ends Quarterflash’s debut rookie card. It has moments of clarity and perception but it’s buried deep in the middle for a reason. Melody gets an A+ but overall a fade to black. I must say, I kind of hate it when the sax tries to take too much of a lead role. It’s a fine line of “too showy” vs “just filler” and in this case Quarterflash gets it. Just the right amount of sax.
So in today’s battle Janet Jackson took control and began her dominance in the music world she burned 158 calories over 22 minutes and 5 songs. That averages to 31.60 calories per song and 7.18 calories per minute. Janet earned 10 out of 15 possible stars. Quarterflash took their 22 minutes to sax us up on their debut. 5 songs were played and 162 calories were burned. They averaged 32.40 calories burned per song and 7.36 calories burned per minute. They earned 8 out of 15 possible stars. Even though they’re only a quarter flash, the other three quarters are rock and roll. Quarterflash wins!

Warning: angst (I’m sorry)
------------------------
You laid there in Taehyung’s arms, thinking about what he said to you. His lips pressed against your shoulder and his warm breathe tickling your neck. He slept peacefully having you in his arms. It was easy to trust Taehyung. He was innocent and sweet. His intentions seemed pure; but if you were being honest with yourself, you were waiting for Hoseok to take responsibility for his family. A little part of your heart told you that there was hope. You wanted so bad for him to see his daughter calling another man her father , and take responsibility for her, but he didn’t seem to care.
you knew he wouldn’t step up and be that person for her; but you couldn’t stop yourself from hoping.
You looked at Taehyung’s sweet face, a soft smile across it.
You knew he couldn’t hurt you; so that’s who you chose. You found yourself falling for him over time.
The way he devoted himself to being Avery’s dad and even working to make you fall for him. It worked so well. You had fallen for him, and after a year you were married.
On your one year wedding anniversary Tae through a big surprise party. He invited the friends and family, and even flew your mother to Korea just to celebrate.
You watched Tae lovingly as he played with Avery and all the other kids.
He was that type, instead of drinking and mingling with the adults he made sure the children were entertained. You were entertained just watching him. He was so happy, and so were you until you saw Hoseok strolling through the door, a girl in a tight dress clinging to his right arm.
You frowned. He walked in and immediately caught everyone’s attention. He seemed different, he had a big smile on his face; but…it didn’t seem like him. His face was sunken in and his eyes had large bags under them, like he had been up for a few days. He seemed intoxicated.
You looked around the room. Everyone looked unhappy.
“there’s rumor’s he’s been doing drugs.” One of Taehyung’s cousins whispered into you ear.
You looked at Hoseok again, he was bending down and greeting Avery. She seemed upset, and clung to taehyung’s leg.
You stood up, “Tae, the kids should go to the backyard, I’m sure Avery would like to show them her trampoline.” He nodded slowly, asking one of his younger cousin’s to take them out.
When all the kids left, you walked over to Hoseok. You said hello to his date, politely shaking her hand. She was obviously on something too.
You heard Hoseok snickering, “Don’t pretend like you’re glad she’s here, Y/N. It looks fake.” He said pulling her hand away from yours.
“Hoseok, what’s wrong with you?” you asked softly.
“What’s wrong with you, celebrating a fake marriage?” he asked loudly.
You tried to stay calm with him, he was already making a scene, you didn’t want to make it worse.
“Hobi, I think you need to calm down, take a seat and I’ll bring you both some food.” You said.
“You want me to calm down, why Taehyung takes what’s mine?” he said even louder.
“I think I we should all leave now.” You heard your mother speak up behind you. Everyone agreed with her. Parents took their kids. You stood there as the house quickly emptied. Your mother even took Avery to spend the night at her hotel.
Hoseok’s date had walked off and sat down in the living room. The three of you stood in silence for a while.
“Hyung…why did you come?” Taehyung spoke up.
“Who are you to ask me questions? I came to see MY child.” He said.
“she hasn’t been yours her whole life, and now you want to see her?” you said. You glared at him, your fist balled tightly. Rage was certainly building up, and you didn’t know how much you could take before you hit him.
“Hyung,’’ Taehyung interrupted, “You should go lay down in our guest room, you can see Avery after you rest a bit. You have bags under your eyes, you’ll scare her.”
He seemed cheerful, and he spoke calmly; but his fist was also clenched tightly.
You looked at him in shock, you couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
He spoke so much about how he didn’t want Hoseok near Avery. He cherished his older brother deeply, he always made that clear to you; but he wouldn’t let him hurt you or Avery anymore.
So why was he suddenly letting Hoseok stay.
“Tae?” you asked, trying to get his attention; but he lead Hoseok to the guest room, his date had already passed out on your couch.
You couldn’t believe this mess. Tae should have kicked him out; but instead he was being nice and welcoming. After all Hoseok had put you through, and Taehyung was letting him sleep off his high in your home.
The rage kept building. When Tae came out, smiling, you exploded.
“why didn’t you kick him out? He came into our house while we had guest, and caused a scene!” you yelled .
“let’s go get Avery from your mom, she texted me earlier and said she was scared.” He said calmly, walking to the door and putting on his shoes.
You grabbed his arm, “I’m not bringing my daughter here. Hoseok is high off his ass and you let him stay!”
He walked out of the door. You followed him still yelling at him.
You didn’t know if it was him you were angry with exactly; but you needed to get your frustrations out some how.
“You didn’t even ask me if I was comfortable with him staying here!” you were now screaming as Taehyung drove to your mom’s hotel.
“He’s my Hyung. I can’t turn him away when he just wants to visit her!” he finally yelled back.
He looked at you furiously, as he yelled at you for not trusting his decisions.
He wasn’t paying attention to his driving. You were both screaming at each other. No one was paying attention when he ran the red light. But you saw the huge lights of the truck. You screamed and then everything went black. It was cold and dark. You could only hear the sirens.
You wanted to call you to see if Taehyung was okay; but you couldn’t speak.
Then, you couldn’t hear the sirens anymore.
You felt like you weren’t even in your own body.
When you woke up you could hear the beeping, the mask on your face, helping you breathe.
you glanced over Namjoon and your mother were sitting by your side.
You lifted your hand as much as you could. Your mom stood up quickly and took your hand.
“I’ll go get the doctor.” Namjoon walked off.
You took your mask off, “where’s Taehyung?” you asked weakly.
Your mom shut her eyes, gently patting your hand; but she didn’t answer you.
“Mom? Where’s Tae?” you asked, you tried to sit up, your body was too weak.
You looked down, one of your legs was in a cast.
Tears swelled in your eyes when you looked at your mother who was trying to control her own tears.
The doctor came in, his face looked pale.
“Mrs. Kim…You’re going to be okay. Your leg is broken; but it will heal Quickly. Did you know that you were pregnant?” she said.
You were flustered, “N-no…I didn’t know…Where is my husband. Can someone tell me Which room he’s in?” you asked, finally able to sit up.
You tried to get out of the bed; but Namjoon and your mother made you lay back down.
You started crying. “Someone, please tell me.”
“Mrs. Kim…Your husband didn’t survive the accident. The truck hit him, and he passed away before the medics arrived.” She said.
Your heart dropped to your stomach.
Hearing that was more than just heartbreaking. Your heart ached.
You didn’t eat anything for days. You didn’t get out of bed, you just laid, facing the wall of your hospital room.
You were discharged after a week.
Everything flew past quickly. The day of Taehyungs funeral, you wished you could leave with him.
People expected so much from you. His fans wanted you to comfort them, his family expected you to host them, and taking of his parents, who had moved into your home to help take care of Avery and the baby that was on it’s way.
But you could only think of your heart break. The last time you ever saw Taehyung, you were arguing with him, over something petty.
Months passed but you couldn’t get passed but you could escape the heart break.
You lost your smile, and your job. If it wasn’t for Tae’s parents and his life insurance Your family would be on the street.
You tried; but you didn’t have the will to be happy, like you used to; after loosing Tae you didn’t think you could smile again.
Until you had your baby. A beautiful baby boy. He looked like Tae. You named him Monroe. Holding him in your arms you felt like you were able to smile and when you saw Avery and how excited she was, you smiled even more.
Tears formed again. You felt sorry towards Avery. Because all this time you haven’t given her the love she deserves; because you felt guilty.
Your mother-in-law took Avery so that you could get some rest.
You found yourself thinking about how much you missed Taehyung again; but it wasn’t sad.
You missed him dearly; but you had all his warm memories. His smile not only in your memory but on your son.
Looking at Monroe made you realize that Taehyung wasn’t completely gone, because the son you shared was a smiling and glowing child from birth.
Monroe oozed the same happy feeling that Tae gave off.
You held him close and you watched him sleep.
The door slowly creaked open and Hoseok walked in. You hadn’t seen him since the funeral. It was a shock to seem him there.
“T-the other members are coming up, they just stopped at the gift shop.” He said sheepishly.
You smiled softly, signaling him to come in completely.
“What you weren’t gonna bring me anything?” you asked.
He grabbed the door knob anxiously “You’re right. I should go back and get you some flowers or something.” He laughed nervously.
You chuckled, “sit down Hoseok You’re gonna wake the baby.”
He slowly sat down in the seat beside your bed.
“I’m sorry for everything I put you through y/n, I-“ he started rambling but you quickly cut him off.
“that’s all the past now.” You said, giving him an assuring smile.
While you were thinking about Tae you decided that he would want you to forgive Hoseok, for Avery at least. You had no idea what it would lead to; but it was a start
Hoseok promised he’d be good to Avery, and make up for all the time he hurt her.
That was where you were right then. Forgiving Hoseok and yourself , and being good parents.

Since you are a big fan of cartoons what are your top 10 favorite cartoons of all time? Honorable mentions can be included
Oh! Oh, cool! You seriously don’t know how cool it is that someone would care to ask, thank you!
Also, sorry for the wait. Seriously, that was excessively sucky. Life likes to get busy at inconvenient times, you know?
But dang, that’s such a hard question…
Only one way to do this right.
Dammit, Anon, This is Hard
I’m not the type of person to decide on ranks (or anything) very easily, so I’ll say this: some choices were easier than others.
I should also mention a lot of these choices are very personal, and if this were a more objective list of the best shows out there, it would be totally different. I also don’t pretend to always have the best taste, these really are just my favourites that I’ve seen. Sometimes I can recognize that one show is probably objectively better than one I like, but that won’t necessarily stop me from liking something. Basically, my list, my bias.
Still, I’ll do my best to explain my choices for those of you who didn’t have the same experiences with these shows that I did. I assume you don’t live in my brain.
Honourable Mentions
Is it hard to believe that the honourable mentions section was harder to decide than the actual list?
There’s just so many shows I’ve enjoyed and I think deserve to be lauded. If you ask me, “Well, what about ____?! Where the hell was ____?!” it would probably fall in this category.
I’ll try to keep it short, though:
The Fairly Odd Parents - I don’t think you could’ve grown up in the early 2000s without encountering this show in some capacity, but I absolutely loved it growing up; I played FOP video games, I watched it every day after school, I even remember catching all the movies on TV whenever I could. It’s always had such a great sense of humour, combined with the jazzy stylistic choices that gave it that extra punch. More recent seasons aside, this one is a 2000s classic.
Over the Garden Wall - I watch this every October now. It’s absolutely spectacular. I think the only thing holding it back is sadly that it’s a miniseries—and it’s not like I would change that, the story needed to be told the way it was. But it’s become seasonal for me, so it’s a favourite but… only briefly.
Rick and Morty - Damn, I love this show. Just give it one more season and let the plot really start to kick in, it may start to climb this list
There are also plenty of shows that I think could be on here had I gotten to watch more of them, and some of those include:
Batman: The Animated Series
Danny Phantom
Sym-Bionic Titan
And here are shows I once had a bit of an obsession with that in hindsight… was a bit unwarranted (again, I never claimed to have great taste):
Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi
Yin Yang Yo!
Total Drama Island/Action
With that out of the way, onto the list!
#10. South Park
What can I say about a comedy that’s antagonized censorship on TV 20 seasons? Well, for one, there are moments that genuinely reward you for caring about these characters for so long. For example, there’s a gut-punch of a two-parter, You’re Getting Old/Ass-Burgers that legitimately made fans question if the show was in danger of ending, with just how fatalistic it’s tone is.
They’ve even since made the transition from episodic to serialized season-long stories—to varying degrees of success, admittedly, but I don’t know if a show, especially one this well-established (this happened in season 18) has ever done that.
In a strange way, South Park’s a show that innovates. It quickly surpassed any other show on at the time for most edgy/boundary-pushing—to the point that its offensive humour wouldn’t be acceptable coming from anyone else but South Park (which isn’t to say I don’t understand when/if people have an issue with it, but… more on that in a sec)!
I’d also like to give special shoutout to the South Park Movie, and the recent South Park video games, the Stick of Truth and Fractured, but Whole—all three of which are jam-packed with South Park goodness.
Personal Reasons: When I was growing up this was the pinnacle in shows my mom didn’t want me to watch. And with what little of a rebellious streak I had, I took that to mean it needed my attention.
I remember watching it late at night (which just made it more scandalous!) with my brother, and separately with my best friend at the time, Daniel. We loved that kind of raunchy, crude humour! And in hindsight, like I said, I know there’s been plenty of times when they’ve made jokes in poor taste, but I don’t know. Sometimes when you make fun of everyone equally, there can be room for some less tasteful jokes. Especially when being a boundry-pusher is a big part of your identity.
As the old saying goes, “It’s South Park: what did you expect?”
#9. Clone High
One of the more obscure choices on this list, but I’ve mentioned it from time to time for sure. Coming from the writing/directing team behind Lego: Batman, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and 21 Jump Street, Clone High was a short-lived 13-episode MTV comedy.
The premise was simple: clones of famous historical figures all go to high school together.
Done, simple as that.
But what makes it so funny is how it parodies the high school drama genre while still existing as it’s own story with it’s own characters. Like, every episode is always announced as a “very special episode” and even in their short run, they managed to do the Drug episode, the holiday episode, the natural disaster episode, the dramatic Death episode, the class election episode—it just doesn’t let up.
Oh, and I’d like to mention Pan Pzza/Rebel Taxi did a stellar review that goes into the history surrounding the show along with some analysis of its content, so if I piqued you’re interest at all, you can find a more in-depth review over here.
Personal Reasons: This s a show my brother introduced me to. Watching videos or playing video games with my cool older brother was always awesome, so watching a show with him as tons of fun.
#8. Moral Orel
My god… this show is the absolute most brutal show I’ve ever loved. You can tell by my lists that I tend towards shows that deal with darker subjects in soft, even light-hearted ways, but this isn’t that kind of show.
Or, at least, the season that made it my 8th favourite show isn’t.
I should explain. Moral Orel was a show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim that had a total of 3 seasons (with a prequel special that came out years after the fact), and for most of the first two seasons, it’s a vastly different show than in its third season.
From the second season’s finale onward, Moral Orel becomes one of the most bleak, bitter, heart-wrenchingly real shows on TV. It’s breath-takingly bitter.
The first two seasons largely center around the main character Orel Puppington and his religious adventures in his hometown of Moralton. It started as a parody of Christian cartoons, in particular the stop-motion/claymation Davey and Goliath.
Basically, Orel would learn a lesson from an authority figure in town and misinterpret it to the extreme. It could make for some funny commentary now and again, but in truth it was nothing special. There were a few early episodes worth watching, like the Lord’s Prayer and The Best Christmas Ever, but if that’s all it had to offer, its charm would wear thin.
This, on the other hand, is no regular series.
The fact that it started out the way it did makes the reveal even more powerful. You see, those more upbeat first two seasons, where the morals are skewed and everything’s just a bit cheerier than it should be come crashing down when Orel’s father’s alcoholism is taken devastatingly seriously during a hunting trip in the two-part season finale “Nature” parts 1&2.
Nature marks a drastic turn in the series tonally. From there, the series shifts focus from just being about Orel to chronicling the lives of several members of the town in the aftermath and the days surrounding that infamous hunting trip. The third season even starts counting down each episode (Numb, for instance is 1 out of 13).
And the reason for this is that as Orel lost faith in his father in that season finale, we, along with Orel, start to see all the people in his life in a different, sometimes disturbing light.
If I’m making it out to sound a bit on the unwatchable side, I understand, you don’t always want to watch something that will bring you down like that. But to sing its praises just a bit more, the reason it struck such a chord with me is because there’s such a humanity to it. There is hope somehow, and goodness in all this messed up stuff.
Personal Reasons: I used to stay up late watching Adult Swim, or use the TV to fall asleep to. I managed to catch episodes now and again, so it hit me hard the first time I saw some of the darker or more bittersweet episodes.
#7. Steven Universe
We jump from one of the harshest shows to one of the sweetest! And yeah, I was surprised this wasn’t higher, too
And maybe it could change as the series goes on, but in the meantime, wow is this a fantastic show! We’ve talked about it a number of times on FGA, but I don’t think that’s any reason to not sing it’s praises some more!
Premiering in 2013 on Cartoon Network, Steven Universe, as you probably know (because this is Tumblr), follows the titular Steven and his emotionally-driven life with the Crystal Gems, alien rebels from a far-off Homeworld.
Properly referred to as “singing and crying,” Steven Universe slowly runs the gambit from gorgeously heartbreaking to sweetly uplifting, all the while feeling like a mellow, safe, and warm place to be.
Like many people have said in many different ways, it’s a show that explores relationships. All kinds of relationships. It’s made massive strides in LGBT+ representation in kids’ shows, presenting it without the pomp and circumstance of a “very special episode.”
The gradually unfolding plot has fans like me hooked, even if the slower pace and hiatus plague can leave us hanging for quite some time.
Personal Reasons: This is yet another show that I’ve gotten watch and talk about with my girlfriend, so I think I’ll always remember it fondly for that. Fangirling.
#6. Avatar: The Last Airbender
It’s what I consider to be the greatest show of all time… and it’s this far down on the list. There really is no justice in Bias Town.
One of the best purely serialized shows out on this list, Avatar is a perfect example of a simple three act story-structure. It tells a complete, satisfying story that needed no more and no less.
And in that time, it managed to find the perfect balance for everything. Rich, interesting world-building reflecting real-life cultures? Check. Fun plots that moved forward the overall story? Check. Likable complex characters that humanize the world so no one side is undeniably in the wrong? Check.
The only thing that took a while to grow on me was Avatar’s humour. Can’t explain why, but once I warmed up to it, there were episodes and moments that made me lose my shit.
It’s such a well-crafted story, and I could probably just go on and on about how well everything was developed, but sufficed to say, it would probably top my list for what’s objectively the best cartoon out there.
Personal Reasons: I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but I actually missed out on Avatar’s original run. I vaguely remember being interested by it, but never catching an episode in full.
Years later, I somehow stumbled across it by chance, and oh my god. Oh my god, you guys. I watched most of the second and third season in one weekend. I couldn’t stop.
#5. Spongebob Squarepants
In last year’s Nostalgia Month, I fangirled a little bit about Spongegbob, and if you read any of that, you’ll know I’ve always been a huge fan. It’s one of the cornerstone series of my generation (just take a look at the Ocean Man meme that was a thing for a while—that song is buried in the credits of the Spongebob Movie, so you would have had to sit through the credits to get that reference), along with Pokemon and Fairly Odd Parents, so again, I couldn’t not have some experience with it, but I was pretty much a super fan.
And there’s kind of a reason for that. I can’t say what it’s like now, but in its early seasons, it’s humour was surprisingly intelligent and stupidly funny. There’s definitely a difference between stupid characters and a stupid show, and so long as you can see that, you’ll find a charming undersea comedy that became a household name for a reason (at least initially).
Personal Reasons: God, where to start. For one, I have a fear of fish, but I love swimming and the sea. That fear developed in second grade, ironically around the time I would’ve been the deepest in my Spongebob phase. I think it helped, actually. There’s a reason I have a random anchor as a logo.
And you know, there’s some shows that you love so much that they come to represent a part of your life. All my elementary school days and even into middle school, Spongebob was something I was an expert in. I had as much merch as I could afford to get, I watched it religiously (even the DVD boxsets), I made my first best friend that way— it just ruled my world for a long while there.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way. The nostalgia goggles are strapped on hard for this choice, but I couldn’t honestly tell you I don’t have a sincere place in my heart for it. And always will.
#4. Gravity Falls
You know how the 2010s starting kicking a lot of ass for animation? I think more than anything—more than even Adventure Time (which I do love)—this is the show that represents that to me. Not because it’s dated, but in fact the opposite: because it’s a modern classic that will forever feel timeless. Something truly spectacular that we’ll always look back on and remember as ours.
Gravity Falls takes influences from all the best stuff, but makes itself unique by being incredibly inventive. Like, it really does remind me of any Matt Groening show because of it’s sense of humour and even a bit of the world-building, but the mystery and heart are so magnificently its own. These things are the backbone that take the the already stellar comedy to a whole other level.
The best word for it is just as I said: magnificent.
From beginning to end, it’s undeniably so. It rewards close-viewings and theory-makers ten-fold, and that detail-orientated approach makes the experience that much richer and more, well, rewarding.
You knew it was coming, but hell, I can’t deny a show that succeeds in doing so many things I love so, so well.
Personal Reasons: I’ll never forget the experience of watching Not What He Seems for the first few times, or really, a lot of the episodes. Watching the fandom come up with theories about the Stan twins a season in advance, and then seeing those theories made reality in the most spectacular, theatrical episode of the television I’ve ever watched blew me the fuck away.
And getting to talk about it here and with LittleNightwing just made it more of an interactive experience, which is exactly the kind of thing Alex Hirsch wanted.
I know I’ve said this too many times by now, but I even wrote part of an episode for Gravity Falls: Deep Woods (a storyboarded fan-series inspired by the show). When episode three eventually comes out, if they haven’t cut it out for time constraints, my name will be in the credits. And having my name associated with anything related to this show is just an honour.
#3. Futurama
I don’t even know what I can say about Futurama that hasn’t already been said, but whatever, I’m gonna try because I have to include it.
It started airing back in 1999, which was appropriate, because the series starts us out by travelling to the year 2999 on New Years, entering into the new millennium as we enter into this new series. And from there, this lovable portrayal of a future that somehow seems not too far from our present day becomes awesome.
Everything is a little crappy. That’s not a diss on the show, it’s just the reality of the year 3000. It’s not some dystopia, but it’s no utopia, either. It comes with all the problems and foibles of modern day, just with different technology, space travel, and alien races.
And don’t get me started on how inventive it can be. The writers staff behind that show is one of the most educated on television—quite literally, with “three Ph.D.s, seven masters degrees, and cumulatively had more than 50 years at Harvard.”
And they put all that to use to make sure the science behind that sci-fi could work. In fact, they not only created their own alien language for the show, but writer Ken Keeler devised an entirely new math equation to resolve a plot point for the episode “Prisoner of Benda.” In the field, it’s referred to as the Futurama theorem or the Keeler theorem, and has since inspired research.
So when I say next level nerdy, I mean next level nerdy.
Futurama uses this incredible scientific and mathematical power to parody the sci-fi genre with a great sense of humour and a Simpsonian sense of heart. Pretty much all of the main cast has at least one tear-jerker episode, but none so powerful as the infamous Jurrasic Bark, an episode dedicated to telling the story of our main character, Phillip J. Fry, and his dog Seymour. It will tear you apart.
Personal Reasons: This is yet another series I grew up with, and I think it taught me a lot about storytelling. Episodes like Luck of the Fryrish, The Sting, or the aforementioned Jurrasic Bark end on a incredibly bittersweet note, and to really earn that, the writers build it up expertly.
There’s also episodes like the Emmy-winning Roswell that Ends Well that take these wacky sci-fi concept to insane new levels. Whether or not I can execute on that, it taught me to always push an idea further.
Plus, I followed the series from it’s original run to it’s first cancellation to the four straight-to-DVD movies (that I ADORED renting from Blockbuster) to it’s return and final ending in 2013. It’s been one hell of a ride.
#2. The Simpsons
And at this point, you probably know the whole list. But let’s go through it anyway.
The Simpsons, for me, really is one of the most brilliantly stupid comedies out there. It seems there are a number of comedies on this list that could be written off as just brainless, but I think there’s a charm to that for me. Something that clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously when it doesn’t have to. The Simpsons, in that way, has always been rather inviting to me.
Despite it’s now nearly 30 year run, it never seems to have an ego about itself, even when some consider it the greatest comedy of all time (me).
There’s an endless amount of hilariously quotable episodes, and like any good comedy, it doesn’t skimp out of the character development or sentimentality. It’s certainly lost it’s touch for the most part, as is the case with a lot of running series, but every now and again, even in the later seasons, it still manages to surprise.
I couldn’t explain it’s legacy if I tried. It’s currently the longest running animated series, and at this point, seems to have outlived the entire era it was so adept at parodying, but it’s still so legendary I can’t fault it! Even the impossible finally does happen and the show takes its final bow, I know this funny family will keep me laughing for years to come.
Personal Reasons: This started as another show my mom didn’t want me to want, but the reason I got to watch it so much and maybe the reason I love it so much is because my dad loved it.
From that point on, I started collecting the DVD boxsets of every season I could, and enjoying all the early seasons I was too young to watch when they originally aired.
And watching Simpsons reruns in whatever capacity I could became tradition. I still do to this day, even if it’s just online now. It’s become sort of a comfort show, it’s that familiar to me.
Plus, there’s the Movie, and games (The Simpsons Hit and Run is so much better than it has any right to be)—I even wrote an essay on The Simpsons back in high school.
It’s just been the huge, life-long love for me that will never truly end because of how much it shaped me as a person (as silly as that sounds).
#1. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Shock! Awe! Everyone is stunned! People never would’ve seen this coming if they know me…
Alright, so I’m predictable (I prefer the term “reliable” but considering how long it took to get this list out…), but it’s strangely so well-suited to everything I love. This entire section is full of personal reasons.
There’s fantastic characters to love (and obsess over); a heart-warming, light-hearted, cute, and ultimately loving tone that’s inexplicably never too saccharine even when it by all means should be; a fascinating fantasy world to dive into; a remarkable at times Disney-esque musical element; an eye-pleasingly soft animation style; an unashamed love of puns—I mean I could actually go on about this for a full year.
I really, really could… over on my main blog (sorry for the self-promo, but it’s relevant).
Year of the Pony, MLP Editorials (which are a big part of YotP)
I’ve dedicated this entire year to talking about My Little Pony in an event I’m calling Year of the Pony. There’s so far been something pretty much every week, themes for every month—I love this show a lot you guys. I really, really do.
That really is the reason I’m doing this event. I’ve been a fan of this show for five, going on six years, and it somehow became my favourite show of all time, even when there are shows out there that I think are objectively better. I’m trying to dissect why that is bit by bit.
For instance, here’s an upcoming two-parter:
These two characters are sisters, and long story short, one was forced to send the other to the moon. This was a story that introduced the series in the first two episodes, and has since been explored by the fandom in every way imaginable. So I have to ask questions that’ll give me a way to talk about how much and why I love this particular story element.
It’s not the greatest tragedy out there, sure, but I’ve seriously gotta figure out why this has struck such a chord with me, you know?
Obnoxious self-promos aside, I really did fall and fall hard for this series I think because it was still unassuming by the time I got to it. The was a fandom, sure, but I didn’t know what to expect (whether these “bronies” were just using it for memes and liking it ironically or what), and that made it a genuine discovery for me.
And it’s that very unassuming, unpretentious sweetness that continues to make me love it, even though it’s made a few mistakes along the way. I don’t think it’s a perfect series, but it’s definitely perfect for me. And what more could I ask for in a favourite show?
But that’s just my list. Feel free to tell my some of your favourites or take up the challenge to put out your own list and send it my way! Show me how much better your taste is than mine!

Something Here [Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader]
Request: Hi! Could you please write a linxreader imagine? Reader is lin's girlfriend, but they haven't been together for that long and she is quite a bit younger than him. He takes her to the show one night and introduces her to the cast. The cast have there worries about her being younger and that she might only be with him for the fame. (They maybe confront him about this) In the end they see that she is not with him for fame or whatever, but really loves him. I would love it if you could write this.
Word count: 1,495
Warnings: age difference, light swearing, a little bit of angst but nothing big.
A/N: I changed the request a little (as always) but the main idea remains. I hope this is what you wanted, the idea came kinda easily to me this way, so maybe that’s why I went a bit off from the request, I hope you still like it tho! <3
askbox | masterlist
You knew. The moment his lips touched yours during rehearsal you knew, and it felt like the most cliche description ever to say that you got butterflies on stomach and a spark between you and Lin when you kissed, but that was exactly what happened.
Weeks progressed and you, the newest understudy for all three Schuyler sisters, were scared out of your goddamn mind. This was your broadway debut, and learning the four female roles on the biggest show on Broadway was no easy task on its own, being in love with the creator and main star of the show didn’t help either.
After almost two months of rehearsal, you were covering for Peggy/Maria for the first time, so you decided to get to the Richard Rodgers earlier than normal, which ended up making you and a few other cast members the only ones there.
“[Y/N], can I talk to you for a minute?” Lin’s voice was low and you didn’t feel his usual excitement, what made your anxiety run a thousand miles per hour, bringing back every moment you’ve spent together since you met him. Trying to keep your cool you just nodded, and he made his way to the dressing room you shared with some ensemble members that haven’t arrived yet. “Where do I even start, uh...”
“You’re making me nervous, Lin.”
“Sorry.” He said, sitting on the couch next to your vanity. Lin’s fingers went through his hair and you raised your eyebrows at him, making him giggle nervously. “Okay, I’ll go straight to the point: I think there’s something here.”
“What do you mean?”
“Between us. I don’t know if I’m going crazy but since the first time we kissed on rehearsal I can’t stop thinking about you, this is making me go out of my fucking mind.” Lin stood up and you watched his movements, unsure if you should say anything. His pace was steady as he walked back and forth on the small space from one side of the dressing room to the other. “I mean, should I have these feelings? Aren’t you a bit... Too young for me? You probably think I’m super creepy and this will make things awkward, I’m-”
“Lin.” Your voice immediately stopped his babbling, making him stop walking and look into your eyes. “I felt it too, but I figured it was all in my head, like you said I’m a younger than you and you’re, well, the star.”
“To me, you’re the star.” Lin offered his hand and pulled you from your chair the moment you took it. “Okay, maybe we have this age difference but you’re amazing, I couldn’t get my mind off you and... I want to be with you.”
You bit your lower lip trying to hide a smile, just sinking everything in. This is one of the moments you felt like taking a leap of faith, holding to your courage as tight as you can, so you did. When you held Lin’s face and kissed him, the world felt right, and as you both melted into the kiss, you figured there was no age difference, nothing or anybody that could take Lin from you now.
That didn’t mean they wouldn’t try.
Everything started a few weeks later, when people noticed you both leaving together after the shows: Holding hands, taking pictures with fans together, news started to pop on your twitter feed with tabloid headlines that went from “Sugar daddy? Lin-Manuel Miranda caught with younger actress from Hamilton” all the way to heavier headlines calling you a social climber and a gold digger. It came to a point where twitter was just not a fun experience anymore, but you never thought the headlines would get to the ears of people inside the theater.
Arriving with Lin on the theater that afternoon was a nightmare: major tabloids now had the spotlight on you and your boyfriend, considering he was always really private about his personal life and this was the first time there was something interesting for people to trash. There was almost ten paparazzis waiting for your arrival, and Lin had to call the theater security to take you guys from the taxi you took to the stage door, once you made to the dressing rooms, Lin allowed himself to show some frustration. “This is getting ridiculous.”
“I’m sorry.” The need to apologize was bigger than you. Lin talked over a million times about how nothing of this was your fault, but you couldn’t help it. Lin-Manuel Miranda has always been a pretty chill celebrity in the eyes of the media: never involved in scandals, always considered a role model. You were the cause of his first “problematic” headline, and knowing that crushed you.
“Hey, we are over this, okay?” His hands cupped your face as he touched your forehead with his. “I knew the risks and chose to take them, I need to know if you’re with me on this.”
As you nodded, his lips met yours in a sweet kiss.
“I need to run some things over with Tommy and Alex, will you be okay?”
“I’ll be fine, don’t worry.” You faked a smile as he ran down the stairs. When you found your way to the dressing room, Chris stopped you.
“Hey, [Y/N], do you have a minute?”
“Sure” You walked behind the man who gives life to George Washington every night all the way to his dressing room. “Is everything okay?”
“I believe you’ve seen the news lately?” You nodded. “You’re a cool girl, you really are, and I can see you’re making Lin-Man really happy, but as his best friend I need to know-”
“If the headlines are true.” You completed his sentence before he did. He did his characteristic head tilt, and you looked down for a few seconds before deciding what to say. “Look, I love Lin. I know it’s been only a few months but he changed my life in the best possible way. I know there’s no way for me to prove my intentions to you or to... Them. But you need to trust me, and if not me, Lin’s judgement about me.”
“[Y/N], you probably know this already but Lin is a romantic. He’s hooked, for real, so I’m choosing to trust your intentions. Please, don’t break his heart.”
“I’d never, Chris, I promise.” He nodded before turning to his vanity, and you made your way out of his dressing room.
You felt lucky you didn’t have play any roles on the show that evening, because your brain was just a mess: every single second you spent on our phone, something about you and Lin’s relationship popped up from a friend, twitter or Facebook. You tried your best to stay away from google, but curiosity took the best of you: As you started reading the tweets, posts and articles from different sources doubting your relationship with the Hamilton star, you couldn’t help but let the tears fall down your face. You head the storm of applause and quickly tried to pull yourself together before the cast got back from stage.
“[Y/N], you okay?” Jasmine’s voice caught you by surprise as you finished wiping your tears off with a cotton pad meant for removing makeup, she still was with her final costume. “Were you crying?”
“No, I was just...” As she came closer, her eyes went straight to your phone.
“Is that the tabloid bullshit about you and Lin?”
“Maybe.”
“C’mon [Y/N], you can’t let this get into your head.” She took the seat next to you and placed her hand your shoulder. “Don’t you think Ant and I don’t have problems with this?”
“Well, no, ou guys always look so happy.”
“We are, but it’s because we learned to ignore shit like that, it’s not healthy and will drive you nuts if you let them get into your head.”
“Thanks Jazzy, but it’s ready to say when you’re not a decade younger than Ant.” Her little smile showed a compassion you haven’t seen in a while. As a young artist you moved to New York once you got into college, and deal with your problems without help just became your normal state of mind, it was good to know it didn’t have to always be like that.
“You’re both grown-ups, and from what I’ve seen so far, you really like him. I mean, I’d have never kissed Lin that passionately as Maria in my life.” Her statement made you let out a little laugh, causing Jasmine to smile. “See? You’re already feeling better.”
“Thank you, Jas.”
“Thank you for what?” Lin’s voice made you both look at the door, and there he was already on his street clothes.
“Just a little girl talk. Will you be okay?” Jasmine stood up when you confirmed, stopping by Lin before leaving the dressing room. “We like her.”
“Good, so do I.” He answered before smiling at you. “I like her a lot.”

Helpless (Part 3)
Plot/storyline: You knew that getting a job at Hamilton: An American Musical as an ensemble member would be challenging. You didn’t mean to fall for Lin and now it’s just another part of your life you need to fight to keep in control.
* I know this changed a lil from the original but the original intro was sorta shit so i decided to make it sound a lil better.
Disclaimer: I’ve had experience backstage and onstage during musicals and plays so i know kind of what I’m talking about and the rest is made up. I don’t know what kind of work gets put into a broadway musical and by no means trying to make it seem easy cause show biz is super hard. Also I’m pretending that the obc is still together at this time.
A big thank you to my first follower on here @ghitatheo . I swear I was smiling like a lil kid for about five straight minutes cause I was super happy. Also big thanks to @secretschuylersister for replying to my ask and telling me she likes this story. I like actually fangirled super hard. If you didn’t know I read ‘But You’re You’ and I decided to join the world of Lin sin.
*Also sorry for any grammar mistakes cause I suck at the english language. (considering this is my second language i think i should get a free pass)
Lin x Reader Words: 1463 Warnings: like two swear words I think but thats impressive for me because im australian and its in our blood to swear like sailors It’s been three weeks since you started rehearsals. Three weeks since your life was turned upside down. You always knew that theatre was the most accepting place in the world and the cast of Hamilton only helped you prove your point. You had never met people as kind and as nurturing as Renée or Pippa. Or someone who could make you laugh for hours on end like Andrew and Daveed could. You were always in constant stitches over the elaborate stories they told you. Oak who at first seemed like the most intimidating guy on the cast, but, turned out to be the human embodiment of a teddy bear. Although, you still couldn’t master your nerves enough to talk to Lin for more than a few minutes. You knew you couldn’t avoid him forever but that didn’t men that you couldn’t try to. Yet again you found your thoughts consumed with Lin. Why was he taking up so much of your time. You were gonna have your broadway debut this weekend. This little crush of yours was far less important than the most astronomical event in your career. You were deep in thought when you heard Pippa speak up next to you. “So I was thinking…”, “oh that’s not a good idea” you tried to say with a straight face but fail miserably. “Hey!” Pippa said as she pokes you on your side lightly, “as I was saying before I got so rudely interrupted”. The little squabble manage to get the attention of Renée and Jazzy. “ How about to celebrate your opening night on broadway tomorrow, we have a sleepover at my place? I know it’s not exactly glamorous, but, considering we’ve got a two show day the day after I thought that would be the best”. “That actually sounds perfect, it’s been forever since I’ve had a slumber party”. “Good, because Jazzy, Reneé and I were already planning it so you really had no choice”. Diggs on hearing your little conversation decided to share his utmost eloquent thoughts. “Wait, you’re not going to allow me to get hammered with my best friend on the night of her first broadway show. Un-Expectable.” Pippa looked over to him with a smile on her face as she said, “for some reason I think you’ll live Diggs”. He mimed like he was being shot to the heart. Drama queen. “Oh and this an all girls night. No boys allowed in this celebration. We’re going to have an old-fashioned slumber party”. You never really had many friends that were girls. Well you had friends that were girls obviously, but, never ones that you were really close to. “Seems a little unfair that you’re hogging Y/N from us on her opening night” said Lin with a less than pleased tone in his voice. “hmmmm, I wonder why that is Lin?”, Jazzy said while wriggling her eyebrows. Now, you knew Lin to be many things, gorgeous, nice and a genius but flustered and lost for words was never something you expected to see on him. “I was just thinking, oh just.. whatever, forget I said anything”. Before you could even start to wonder why Lin might’ve reacted like that you hear Alex say, “Come on kids, its back to work we go”. Pippa smiled knowingly at you but you decided to shake it off and concentrate on rehearsals. Ok, chill. You were an hour away from your big broadway debut and you were freaking the hell out. Now, nerves were normal for you. You always got nerves before you went onstage and you knew it was because you cared. But today, it seemed like a wall of anxiety came crashing down on your and wasn’t going to stop. You were just thinking about all the things that could go wrong. What if you trip onstage, or forget the dance moves. you’d be a goner. You’d probably get kicked out of the show. No, stop it. You were so lost in that little mind palace of yours that you didn’t realise that someone was knocking on the door to the ensembles dressing room. “Um… Y/N”, you jump around to find Lin standing at the front of the door with flowers in his hands. “Oh, sorry I was just thinking about tonight, what can I do for you?”. “Well it’s more like what I can do for you. I got you these flowers for tonight. I know its not much but I just wanted to wish you luck tonight. Being your broadway debut and all but I know you’ll do fine. You’re super talented and I know you will blow us all away”. You saw Lin nervously babbling and nothing in the world could have made you forget your anxiety than that moment. You were pretty sure that the blush on your face could have matched the one on his face. “Thank you, Lin. This means so much to me. You don’t know how thankful I am to have been cast in Hamilton. I hope I can make you and the rest of the guys proud.” Ok, now you were sure your blush was even worse than his, but the smile on his face made it worthwhile. “You’ll be great, we’re all rooting for you. Um.. I better go get ready but I’ll see you after the show”. You returned his smile and said “See you after the show”. Before, you could comprehend what was happening Lin engulfed you into a huge bear hug. You hug him back almost instantly and for a bit too long in some peoples opinion but in that moment you didn’t care. “Ok… I’ll see you soon”, “see ya” and you saw Lin walk away with a huge grin on his face. Alright. Time to get ready for the show. You took the crowd in around you. They were all on their feet. It was the moment that made you realise that you were right about the theatre. You were glad that all these people saw how well you did and were so proud to be apart of this musical. You’re the last o leave the stage that night, you were trying to take everything. The second you got off stage three tiny bodies hurtled into you and gave you the hug of your life. Pippa, Renée and Jasmine were all squeezing you like they wanted to drain the life out of you. A chorus of “you did so well”, “I’m so proud of you” and “you’re a star” started to ring all around you. after they let you go you made sure to thank them profusely for their ever growing support and love. “Aww you might just make me tear up. Come on, my house is waiting and those Disney movies and face masks wont do themselves y’know”. The rest of the ensemble came up to give you hugs and tell you how well you did and a few even looked like they were tearing up. You told the girls you would see them soon and made your way into the dressing room to get your stuff. “My, my, little missy, where’s my hug”, you jumped around to see Daveed standing in the room and you can just tell by his grin that he wanted to scare you again. “You’re a dick, y’know that”. “One would say a loveable dick” you chuckle at his retort. “Come on superstar give me a hug”. You wrap your arms around him and stay there for a few seconds before a cough interrupts you two. You pull apart to see Lin standing at the doorway an you make your way over. “Hi, Y/N, I just wanted to say you were amazing and we’re so lucky to have you. Have a fun night with the girls, I’ll see you later yeah?”, “Thank you for saying that, it means so much coming from you”. “Ok…”, Lin moves to wrap his arms around you but this time on your waist and embarrassingly enough you were the one that tightened the embrace. You pull apart and you watch as Lin presses a kiss to your forehead. “Goodnight, Y/N”. You dreamily watch him walk off before you are rudely interrupted by Daveed’s chuckle. “What?” you ask somewhat tentatively. “Nothing, I just think you guys have more tension in you than a suspension bridge”. “Fuck off, Diggs”. “It would be my pleasure”, he kisses you on the forehead before he walks out leaving you to contemplate what just happened. Before you can come up with any reasoning in your head you get a wave of texts telling you to get your ass over to Pippa’s ASAP. Oh well, your feelings could wait another day.

What to listen to: August 2017
Brockhampton - Saturation 2
Saturation was the hip hop album we all needed in 2017. It was fullscreen, all-encompassing hip-hop, exploring so many musical and thematic ideas it felt like it might burst at the seams. It was a triumphant return for nerdy, thoughtful rap music. Turns out out favorite boy band are so good at churning out hits that they had enough for not one but TWO more albums. The second installation doesn’t reach quite the same heights of its predecessor, but it has all the same member chemistry, expert lyricism, and one-of-a-kind production, so I’d be hard pressed to complain. If Saturation 3 continues this streak of near-perfection, we’ve got a group of legends on our hands.
Brand New - Science Fiction
Emo? Sorry, not really my thing. The genre has always felt a bit melodramatic for me. The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, Brand New’s infamous 2006 album, failed to leave that big of an impression on me like it had for so many people. This new surprise album, Science Fiction, hit me much harder. A recurring theme in emo seems to be taking an issue in your life and singing about it like it’s the end of the world as we know it. Sometimes it’s convincing, but a lot of times it feels contrived. Luckily, I believe every single word sung on Science Fiction. Not a single second feels insincere. Every member pours their heart out into their instrument to create an emotional explosion of an album. It’s angry, it’s sad, it’s triumphant and, most importantly, it’s unflinchingly human.
milo - who told you to think??!!?!?!
“I don’t even really have to rap/my nigga, it’s about if you can talk good” proclaims Milo on so the flies don’t come cut “A Song About a Raygunn (An Ode To Driver), and on who told you to think It seems he’s fully made the transition from rapping to talking good. Milo’s lyricism on flies was poetic, but what he does here is straight-up poetry. Less focus on hooks and beats, more focus on the words words words. He seems like the kind of person who obsesses over every syllable, and will never throw in a bar that doesn’t mean the world to him. Milo’s meticulous and abstract style makes diving into his lyrics an absolute blast. He’s a rapper for kids who are tired of hearing about bitches and hoes and want more Shakespeare references and terms that they have to look up in the regular dictionary rather than the urban one. High poetry over a beat. The essence of hip-hop.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard w/ Mild High Club - Sketches of Brunswick East
A jazzy odyssey that’s worth a listen or two as background music. Not amazing but I still wanted to give it a quick mention cause these guys have been doing some cool stuff lately.

Steak
Mark x Reader Fluff and a little angst Author: Admin Jazzi *requested*
All you had done was go to dinner with Jinyoung. It wasn’t a big deal to either of you. Mark was away and you both wanted food. You texted him and asked him to get food. It really wasn’t more than that. But Mark made it into a huge arguement. When you got to your shared apartment all the lights were turned off. You hummed, happy with your full tummy. Jinyoung bought you steak. He always bought for you, that’s why you asked him to go with you. Your happiness wasn’t long lived, when you walked into your bedroom, you saw Mark sitting on your bed. Your diary slung across the bed, along with some more of your things.
“What the hell are you doing?” you asked. He didn’t look at you, his expression was very cold. “Did you have fun with Jinyoung?” he asked you.
You sighed deeply, he was jealous. He threw a fit when you hung out with male friends; but when you hung out with one of his members he got extremely jealous. He didn’t see how innocent your friendships with the other boys were. You didn’t care, you still hung out with them; because his jealousy was his own problem. He should trust you “Yeah I had a lot of fun.” you said. Mark stood up quickly and you stared him down.
“Are you cheating with him?” he yelled angrily.
You laughed, “If I wanted to be with Jinyoung I would just break up with your controlling ass.” you said.
You walked passed him, cleaning your things up off the bed.
You took off your coat, and laid it down on the bed.
Mark took your hand, looking at your new bracelet. “I swear if he bought this for you!” he exclaimed.
“What? What would you do?” you pulled your arm away. You stared him down and he backed off a bit.
“I can’t believe this, he’s one of my best friends!” he yelled at you. “Mark if you think I’m cheating on you, then you don’t trust me at all.” you said, trying to be calm; but your voice rose. He was pissing you off. You had been together for almost a year and he still didn’t trust you. You trusted him with all your heart but he wouldn’t return the same trust.
“Why are you always out with him?” He asked.
“Because he buys me food!” You said honestly, “and he’s my friend. That’s it! My friend!”
“Don’t pretend you’re not fucking him! You didn’t even answer my texts!” He said.
You looked at him, “Shut up and get out of my face Mark, I’m sick of this.”
He started laughing. “All I want is for you to tell me the truth!”
“No Mark you want me to admit to doing something, that I’m not.” You yelled back at him. That fight lasted a week. Every time you saw each other.
You were finally sick of it, while he was at practice you packed up and went to a hotel.
Loving Mark was really hard, especially when he acted as if you’d try to hurt him. Staying away from him was even harder, because every time you turned on the tv, he was there.
He didn’t look happy, Mark was good at acting; but he didn’t seem to be happy on camera.
That made you even more sad. He was like that way because you didn’t stop doing things that obviously made him uncomfortable.
But he needed to understand that you would make friends with whom you wanted. You couldn’t stand the unbearable control he wanted over who you associated with.
It was the only thing you argued about. He never tried to tell you what to do otherwise. He was sweet and kind. But he never wanted you to have male friends. It wasn’t the way you wanted your relationship to go. But the more you thought about it, you missed him so much. It wasn’t the way you wanted your relationship to end.
To Mark 3:07pm : let’s meet up.
He simply answered okay. Your heart beat sped up. You rushed to your suitcase. You found the blouse Mark bought you from a trip and a pair of ripped jeans. You also wore the watch and the ring he got you.
You didn’t know why you were so nervous about meeting him. you’d been dating so long and you didn’t feel that you were wrong about the argument, yet you were still nervous.
You met Mark at a coffee shop a few blocks from your hotel. It was one you both went to often, mostly because no one knew about it. It gave the two of you a bit of privacy.
He looked so good. He was wearing a loose shirt and ripped jeans. His hair was styled up and his smile looked wonderful.
You couldn’t stop yourself from smiling when you saw his face. You walked up to him, and hugged him tightly.
He wrapped his arms around you, picking you up slightly, in a tight hug. “I missed you, baby girl.” He said.
You breathed him in deeply. He smelled like soap and shampoo. It was the scent he had after dance practice. You closed your eyes, enjoying it for a moment.
When he finally let you go, you opened your eyes.
He looked at you with sad eyes, his hand brushed over your cheek, gently caressing it.
“I’m sorry baby, I really messed up didn’t I?” He asked.
You nodded softly. “I can’t deal with jealousy Mark. It’s not fair when I’m just having friends.” You told him.
He nodded quickly, “I know baby. I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Jinyoung explained just how stupid I was being.”
You smiled, “He’s not just your friend, he’s mine too,” you started with a pout, “It’s not fair that you want me to drop all my other friends. I’m never gonna do anything to hurt you.”
He hugged you tightly again. Silent for a moment, he hugged you tightly.
“I trust you. I just get jealous when you go out looking as beautiful as you are. It drives me crazy when you spend more time with jinyoung or the other members.and he’s buying you things? How can I not be jealous?” He said.
You pinched his cheek. “You’re stupid. I’m madly in love with you or I wouldn’t put up with you.and I bought it myself. I just didn’t want to say so because I was angry.”
He laughed and kissed you, “Am I forgiven?” He asked
“Only for four dinner dates at that steak restaurant, and if you promise not to freak out if I go to dinner with Jinyoung.” You said.
He pouted, “why do you want to go to dinner with him so bad?”
You pinched his cheek a bit harder, before kissing it “He buys me food when you’re not around to do it. “
A/N: hey guys. I was feeling really sick, I think I have food poisoning haha,m; but I really wanted to write this for the request. I’m sorry if it’s not that great. If you don’t like it please request that I write it again and I promise when I’m better I will do it again. Admin Jazzi 🥔
