16. Reincarnation AU + M. Amnesia

Yeah, everything is kind of up in the air right now. I’m taking it one day at a time. I hope these little ficlets are at least somethingto distract everyone for just a bit.

Arthur was showing his new Personal Assistant around the office, seemingly a normal enough thing to do. Arthur off-handedly pointed outa photo of the company’s opening day, a grainy sepia photo that hung across from Arthur’s office, when things got weird.

“Oh I remember that year,” Merlin said, “Really hot summer, to be honest.”

“What do you mean, ‘oh your remember that?’” Arthur stared at his new Personal Assistant. “This company was founded in 1898.”

“Oh yeah, sorry, forgot I hadn’t told you yet,” Merlin said with a funny crooked smile, “I’m a RS.”

“A what?”

Merlin tilted his head, “An RS? You know, a Reincarnated Soul?”

Arthur wondered how surprised he looked, because he felt alittle stunned, to say the least. RS cases were rare. So rare that Arthur hadnever met anyone with a reincarnated soul. In fact, he was positive that everyone he knew had never met someone with a reincarnated soul. He was certain if he played the degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon game, that even then, he wouldn’t find someone with a reincarnated soul. And Merlin had just said it on the first day of his job as it was normal.

Merlin’s smile slipped a little, “Is that alright? You can’t sack me for magic-discrimination.”

Arthur shook his head, snapping himself out of it “Of course not, Merlin. It’s just that I have never met- Nevermind. It’s fine. Let me show you the break room next.”

Arthur had never looked into RS cases before. He had neverhad a need or a want before. His father had been anti-magic, so Arthur hadn’t grownup with much of an education on magic, let alone rare forms of magic. After a month of working with Merlin though, he found himself diving in the deep hole that was RS magic, because Merlin kept saying the wildest things.

‘I miss the taste of bananas.’

‘That song was absolutely brilliant and literally no one remembers it, and I hate that.’

‘I’m so glad we invented the internet. Do you know how many stupid things I used to believe?’

‘One of my mums was kind of a hippie and after that lifetime I never went back to eating meat.”

‘That sesame seed oil thing was never a good idea, Linda. An appeal to ancient wisdom is a classic fallacy and you should know better.’

‘When you’ve been married as many times as I have, you learn a thing or two.’

Arthur was getting so many weird pieces of information about Merlin and he had no idea how to process any of them. His curiosity was killing him, but he was positive it was rude to ask that many personal questions of your employee. So he continued living in ignorance.

All the while, Merlin became one of his closest friends. (Arthur was a bit of a workaholic. He denied this on several occasions but thefact that his PA was one of his closest friends did not help his case.) Despite seemingly being on opposite ends of every kind of spectrum, they got along well.They often went out for drinks after work, and Merlin had gotten in the habit of going on a jog with Arthur on Saturday mornings and getting a coffee afterwards.

Besides the weird tidbits that Merlin dropped every once anda while, Arthur didn’t learn much more about Merlin’s other lives. But he did learn a lot about Merlin’s current life. He was young, single, and just moved to London for this job. He was a vegetarian, volunteered at a magical-creature shelter, and cried at any kind of sappy commercial or film. He grew up in a small village, was raised in a magic-positive household, and he was bisexual.

Arthur could not have been more different from Merlin, and yet, he couldn’t help but find that he was falling arse over tit for him.

It all came to head at the company’s annual charity ball. Merlin was dressed in a navy blue suit with a white scarf draped over his shoulders. On his lapel he wore a small triskelion pin and his tie clip was in the shape of a dragon. He looked stunning and Arthur was suddenly hit with how absolutely gone for him he was.

“Evening,” Merlin said with a small smile, “You look nice. And you made it here on time without my help, so it’s a miracle really.”

Arthur smiled and passed Merlin a glass of champagne, “Really,Merlin, I am your boss. You should be nicer to me.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Merlin’s eyes strayed to his suit, and Arthur saw the exact moment he noticed the pride flag lapel pin. His face froze and he looked up at Arthur with an analytical look. “Nice pin.”

“Thanks,” Arthur’s throat felt tight, “It’s my first time wearing it.”

Merlin nodded, “Ah, I see.”

“Yeah,” Arthur shrugged, trying to put distance between himself and this awkward moment.

The rest of night went smoothly, no one else commented onhis pin, which was a bit of a relief. He may or may not have drank more than planned in celebration of it going smoothly, which was always a bad idea.

Merlin pulled Arthur into the car, “Jesus, you weigh a ton. Can you please use your own legs?”

“’m no’ fat.”

“Didn’t say you were, prat.”

Arthur laughed, his head leaning on Merlin’s shoulder, “You always call me a prat.”

Merlin was silent for a while, but Arthur didn’t notice because his drunken mind was focusing on not puking.

“How many times have you been alive?” Arthur slurred, “I know I’m not supposed to ask, but I can’t stop thinking about it. Did you meet anyone famous? Were you anyone famous? Were you always named ‘Merlin?’ We’re you queer in your other lifetimes too?”

“Arthur,” Merlin sighed, “Let’s just get you home, alright?”

“Do you not want to tell me?” Arthur pouted, “Do you not like me?”

“Jesus Christ, why do you always get really flirty or maudlin when you’re drunk? It’s such a weird dichotomy, honestly.”

“Have I been drunk with you before?” Arthur stumbled as Merlin pulled him out of the cab. “I think I would remember that.”

Merlin was silent again, but Arthur’s drunken brain needed to focus on getting up the stairs. Suddenly, they were in Arthur’s flat, andMerlin was handing him a glass of water.

“Thanks,” He drank it all in one go, already realizing he was going to hate himself in the morning.

He had been right, of course. He woke up on his couch thenext morning and remembered all the weird questions he had asked Merlin, and immediately regretted all of it. But there were a few things that stuck out tohim.

He was jolted out of his thoughts when he heard his toaster ding and the shuffle of feet. Merlin appeared in the doorway.

“Coffee,” Merlin sat down next to Arthur. “Toast. Paracetamol.”

Arthur stared at Merlin, surprised to see him in his flat, before he took the offerings without complaint.

“Feeling better?”

Arthur nodded, studying Merlin closely for a moment. “Last night… last night you said I’m always flirty or maudlin when drunk.”

Merlin’s face flushed and he rose quickly, “Oh, you know,” He laughed nervously, taking Arthur’s empty plate and trying to dash into the kitchen. Arthur grabbed his arm, stopping his flight.

“You’ve never called me a prat before.”

Merlin avoided his eye.

“Why did I say that you always call me a prat, when I don’t remember you ever saying that?”

Merlin bit his lip.

“Am I still drunk?” Arthur asked, his heart rate rising.

“No,” Merlin gave him a small apologetic smile.

“Am I…?” Arthur shook his head, “Why am I remembering things about you that didn’t happen?”

Merlin sighed, “I’m not really supposed to tell you. You’re supposed to remember on your own. I only started remembering you specifically after I started working for you.”

“But, I am…I am…”

“A reincarnated soul? Yes.” Merlin smiled, “Took you awhile. Sometimes it does.”

Arthur had to sit down. “And I knew you? Once before?”

Merlin gave him a funny smile and Arthur blanched further, “More than once?”

Merlin actually laughed, which made Arthur feel even more off kilter. Merlin said, “I’ve known you in every lifetime, Arthur. And Ireally should wait until you get more memories back, but I want you to knowthat I will find you in every lifetime after this.”

Arthur looked up at Merlin, a small hysterical laugh escaping his lips. “Fuck. And I was worried about asking you out.”

Merlin smiled, “You still have to woo me, love. I’m not that easy.”

Arthur laughed again, “This is insane. I want to kiss you. Have we kissed before?”

“Not in this lifetime, and that’s all that matters.” Merlin leaned forward, and pecked a kiss on Arthur’s cheek. “Come on, let’s get you some more food and we can weed through your memories.”

Arthur leaned forward, tilting Merlin’s head back and giving him a proper kiss, a shock of electricity going through his system that he hadnever felt before. It felt like he had kissed Merlin a million times before and like it was his first kiss all over again.

Merlin smiled at him, “Well hello there.”

Arthur narrowed his eyes, “Why am I remembering you in a feather hat?”

Merlin just laughed.

Highland Destiny Chapter 11 ~Lock the Door~

Although Joe should have been home hours ago, he had opted to stay in the doctor's mess room. He didn't think he could unwind after the previous night's events, and besides, Gail's shift would be over soon-it was nearly 5 am.

Wandering through the cafeteria, he was surprised to see Jamie sitting alone and staring into space. He went and bought them both a cup of coffee before approaching him.

"Hey, need some company?"

"Oh! Aye, take a seat." Jamie rubbed his face in rapid motion and sat up and smiled at the sight of coffee. "Thank ye, I was about to get one."

"Out on bail?" Joe knew already he wouldn't stay long in jail.

"Aye. How's Christie?"

"He'll live. That was some punch you threw at Tom. What were you thinking, Jamie?"

"I dinna ken. I saw red, I suppose. The coppers weren't impressed at all," he joked, not feeling guilty about last night's misdemeanour.

There was a moment of silence between the two men as they drank their coffee.

"You need not be here, you know. You should go home and rest. Claire is no longer in danger," Joe said in-between sips of his coffee.

"Ye said she's pregnant. How did that happen?"

Joe looked incredulous. "Seriously, Jamie? You had sex, that's what happened. Don't you guys use any form of protection or birth control? I know she said she couldn't have any babies...but still!"

Jamie ignored his question. "Does she know?"

"I haven't told her yet...she's still unconscious. Anyway, I intended to tell you first because I was unsure of the effects of Ketamine on the fetus. You see, she received quite a high dose. Out there it's often used as a recreational drug, but recently there are a lot of cases of it being used as a date rape drug. Its effect is almost immediate, making it more effective for its sinister use. In the right amount of dosage, it should wear off in an hour, but Claire ingested a substantial amount and to make matters worse, it was mixed in alcohol. It could have been fatal if she had not received medical attention immediately. There is no antidote for its overdoses, but we have given her a drug to counteract the symptoms. So you might find her drugged to her eyeball for a couple of days. As for the fetus, there is no telling...I'm sorry."

"Christ! I thought it would have just been a matter of flushing the drug out of her system...fuck." Jamie slammed his fist on the table, rattling the coffee cups. "So, ye think Christie had some ill intentions towards Claire?" He was about to say rape, but he couldn't bring himself to say the word. Jamie could feel his anger rising again.

"Pure speculations Jamie. But he will remain detained until proven innocent. It is plausible that he put the Ketamine in her drink because we have them here in the hospital, and it is accessible to him. We use them for anaesthetic purposes. Now the thing is, the drug comes in a variety of forms. Pharmaceutical Ketamine is usually liquid. On the street, it is more common to see tablets or white crystalline powder. And Claire ingested the liquid form."

Jamie shut his eyes tight, inhaling deeply through his nostrils. When he finally exhaled, he noticed his hands were clenched tightly. "I'm no sorry now that I punched the daylight outa that prick."

Noticing his anger, Joe quickly changed the subject. "Don't get your hopes up but if the fetus does survive, have you thought what that would mean for you?"

His tactic worked, Jamie's face broke into a grin. "I'm going to be a da. Can ye tell already if it's a boy or girl?"

Joe coughed, not expecting that reaction. He is now unsure if he made the right choice asking him that question in case there was a disappointment in the end. "No, Jamie...not for another at least 7 weeks. And by the way, I saw on the report that Claire is 5 weeks pregnant...that's around the time when she first arrived here in Inverness. Didn't one of you think of using a condom? It's not just about birth control we're talking about here...there's also sexually transmitted diseases to think about. Oh God, did you have sex on the first day you met? "

"Aye we did," he replied grinning, looking very pleased with himself. "Weel... normally I would have used a condom, it's just that we had a lot to drink and Claire was so beautiful and then..."

Joe stopped him, not wanting to hear anymore. "You know what? Forget that I asked. I don't want to know what happened before conception!" He rolled his eyes as he let out a frustrated sigh.

"But ye're a doctor. Surely ye hear it all the time..."

He glared at him. "Jamie, for crying out loud! We're talking about Claire here. She's like my sister. I'm not interested in hearing about her or your sexual escapade. Jesus!"

Now it was Jamie's turn to change the subject. "Anyway, can ye picture me being a da?"

"No. Not really."

"What do ye mean, no? If ye think I'm going to leave Claire because of her pregnancy..."

"Jamie, listen. It's not as simple as that. A baby will need a family...a father. Are you ready to have a family of your own? Have you thought about marriage?"

"Aye, of course, I have. Weel, what I mean to say is, I was thinking about it before ye came. And what do ye take me for? Ye think I'll run away because Claire is pregnant?" Jamie looked shocked that Joe would think he would abandon Claire.

"It's not only about what Claire wants Jaime. It's also about what you want. Do you really want this? Baby, Claire and the whole family thing..."

"Joe, I know ye're concerned about yer friend. I want ye to know that I will be doing the right thing for Claire, not because it is the right thing, but because I love her."

"Yeah, that's nice, and all, but both of you have been separated longer than you've been together. Falling in love is not the same as loving someone..."

"You know Joe, once I asked my da how ye knew which was the right woman, weel, he told me when the time came, I'd have no doubt. My da was right. That night when I first laid eyes on her at St. Agnes, I knew she was the one."

"Did you tell Claire how you feel?"

"Aye, but I don't know if she feels the same way. What do ye think? Did she tell ye?"

Joe shifted uncomfortably. "Well Jaime, the only way to find out is to ask her yourself."

Jamie slowly opened the door, careful not to make a noise. He had been explicitly told by Joe that Claire needed a lot of bed rest. So he was surprised to see Claire awake and smiling when he came in.

"Och, ye're awake..." He had brought her a tray of assorted Danish pastry which he knew she loved and placed them on the table before pulling a chair next to her bed. Before he could sit down, he noticed Claire had an odd look on her face.

He smiled at her as he placed a hand on her cheek. "Are ye alright, Sassenach? How are ye feeling?"

Claire extended her arms towards him and said dreamily, "Give me a kiss lover boy!"

His eyes widened at the greeting. Finding Claire's response a bit unusual, Jamie hesitantly leaned down to kiss her on the forehead. But before he could raise his head, her strong arms had pulled him down by the neck. She kissed him passionately, her tongue darting daintily to get a taste of him. He responded but pulled away abruptly, thinking she was not herself. "Christ Claire, what are ye doing?"

To his surprise, she unexpectedly sat up and looked at Jamie with twinkling golden eyes and an impish grin. Biting her lower lip, she provocatively looked him over. "Come 'ere Jamie and give me some of your sweet lovin'," Claire slurred. She was staring at him like he was some savoury dish to be devoured.

"Oh, sweet Jesus, Sassenach, ye're still drugged. Ye should lie down!" Jamie tried to gently force her down back to bed, but instead, she threw the covers aside and got onto her knees facing him, her hands reaching for the buckle of his belt. Wearing only a thin hospital gown and the hazy glow of sunlight casting a shadow, he could see the outline of her body and her breasts. Oh, God! Disengaging her hands from the front of his jeans, took a mammoth effort. Not because of her strength but more because of his rapidly dwindling self-control. He firmly put her hands away from him and backed away. "Claire, listen to me, ye need to lie down..." he said slowly and deliberate, not quite sure how to deal with the situation.

"I don't need to lie down...I feel good, and you look good. So, come here, love and give me a kiss." She puckered her lips in invitation.

Jamie was beginning to get nervous. "Sassenach, ye're heavily medicated, so ye're not acting yourself. So be a good lass and get under the covers. I'll only come to ye once ye're lying down." he said in an unsteady voice.

She sat back on her heels and pouted prettily, one hand resting on her thigh and the other slowly raising the hem of her gown. "Don't you want me, Jamie love?" Oh Christ Almighty, of course, I want ye!

Taking big deep breaths and braving the risk of what could potentially happen if he touched her again, Jamie made another attempt. "Claire, please, ye need rest and all these excitement cannae be good for ye. Well...it's certainly not good for me," he muttered, reaching out to grab her so he can lift her and lay her down.

Instead of cooperating, Claire dodged Jamie's hands, raised herself on her knees and flung both arms around his neck. "Lock the door..." she whispered huskily into his ears, "...and then kiss me." She ran her tongue on the edge of his ear before biting his earlobe.

His hands having a mind of their own, landed on her round arse, fondling it as Claire rubbed herself against Jamie. "Now, Sassenach, why would I want to lock the door?" he replied hoarsely. He could hear hospital activities happening outside on the corridor, and he was on the verge of committing public indecency. It's been over 3 weeks since they had made love and his restraint is about to snap.

"Because I want to take a peek," she giggled as one hand suddenly grabbed Jamie between his thighs.

Gasping, he seized her wrist away from his growing bulge. "Oh, fuck! Sassenach! For someone who has small hands, ye have some firm grip on ye. And I dinna want ye taking a peek!"

"Why not?! How about I let you see mine first? Then I'll take a peek at yours" she grinned coquettishly, leaning back to take a better look at his face, "After all, fair is fair, right, Jamie?"

He grabbed both her hands and held them behind her back, gripping them in place, making her head tilt to the side. "No, Claire! Naebody is taking a peek at anything..." His words trailed off as his eyes rested on the smooth line of her neck. He could almost see the pulsation of her vein as Claire struggled to set her hands free. On impulse, Jaime kissed the spot, before trailing down to the base of her throat, making her quiver. Then he remembered and backed away. "Christ Sassenach, ye're not making this easy for me are ye?"

She winked as she grinned wickedly, "Well if you won't come here, you can watch me instead. Would you like to watch Jaime?" Her hands were already sliding between her thighs, and he knew anyone can come through the door any minute.

"Fine Sassenach, I'll lock the door and don't ye dare make a sound..." he said, giving her warning look.

Door safely locked, he turned back once more to Claire to find her standing barefoot beside the bed, swaying on her feet. "Go back to bed now!" he growled. Damn ye woman! He was amused by how quickly she scrambled under the covers.

Claire settled in, he got into bed with her, lying on his side with his head propped by his elbow. "Jamie..." She was looking expectantly at him, her eyes, although dilated was dark with want. Gone was the giddy, sultry seductress she was moments ago. He knew he wanted to take her there and then, but he couldn't. Not here and not like this even though he was dying inside. Instead...

"Shh Sassenach," he whispered softly as he moved his free hand slowly under the cover and under her gown. There he squeezed the soft, warm flesh before parting her thighs gently. Her golden eyes widened, and her hips began to move, as his forefinger travelled to the moist patch of her panties, tracing the lines of her cleft and her sensitive spot. A faint moan escaped her lips as she closed her eyes in ecstasy, making him dizzy with want. Then he slipped his hand under the waistband, cupping the heat between her legs before dipping his forefinger into her wetness and stroking the silky fold long and slow. She let out a loud gasp as she arched her back, her hand reaching for him to take her.

"I want you inside me..." she whimpered, her breath quickening.

Jamie could see her hard nipples against the thin fabric of her gown, as her chest heaved at every stroke of his finger. "No, Sassenach, I want to watch ye," he murmured as he lightly touched her lips with his, resisting the urge to kiss her thoroughly. He pressed his fingers inside her, thrusting, stroking, dipping and rubbing, her hips lifting to push herself against his hands. She writhed and squirmed with wanton abandonment, her thighs spreading wider apart for deeper penetration. She was so hot and wet, and her throaty moans were making his head swim. He plunged deeper, his thumb grinding the sensitive spot until he felt her clamped around his fingers tightly and her body began to shake uncontrollably. She let out a cry before collapsing next to him, her breaths warm against his neck, and her thighs tightly clamped around his hands. Claire held on to him like that until tiredness took over and her body began to relax.

Claire smiled, drowsily at him as her body eased. "Jamie, I never got to take a peek."

"Sshh sleep now, mo chridhe," he murmured, kissing her on the forehead, before releasing his hands from between her thighs. Then he got up and straightened her gown before pulling the covers to her neck.

"Jamie?"

"Aye Sassenach?" He took her hand in his as he watched her eyes began to get heavier, and her head bobbed, as she struggled to stay lucid.

"I love you," she whispered before drifting off to sleep, her hands going limp in his. He smiled a very broad smile. Jamie wanted to hug her but thought better of it. She needed her rest, so he watched her sleep instead, feeling content with the world.

Today's problems can be tomorrow's, he thought.

Then Jaime received a phone text from Finn, the bartender from the Scotch & Rye Pub.

Jamie, please come ASAP to the bar. I have some footage from our surveillance camera I want you to see.

Welcome to Angst Club how tough are ya? [Youtube AU]

“So I decided to quit Youtube for the time being.”

This time it’s all about Ryuji and the drama around his channel!

As we all know Ryuji started off his youtube career with just some videos that didn’t get much attention

vlogs about track competitions, a small vlog about his trip to the aquarium back in middleschool

nothing that got him any kind of big attention but then VINE came along

With a rather short attentionspan himself it was easier for him to make looping 6 second videos plus he could just make parcour stunts!

That’s where he really hit off and managed to gain a following fanbase. He was a sweetheart with a bright smile and let’s be real the boy is muscular

But then things happened and he stopped posting for a week

people actually got quite worried

he didn’t post sketeches, only stunts

His descriptions got short

he seemed to... not have any fun anymore

and that was when he went back to vlogs

He talked about how he was unable to post much because tournaments were coming up, but actually he seemed bothered by something else

still the majourity of his fanbase seemed to pester him about uploads

He vanished again for a week

then 2

people got upset and devoted fans got worried sick

And then he uploaded again

“Why I decided to quit”

The video was filmed in dim light, evident how he actually didn’t even give a shit. He seemed tired and unhappy

But more than anything else it was the cast and the crutches in the background

“So... I broke my tigh... I can officially not run anymore.” He takes a pause and strokes over his eyes.

He doesn’t say why. Only mentions that it was an “accident” and that he’s forced to quit the track team

He talks about how he’s felt incredibly pressured by his “fans” to post stuff and that he’s sorry that he can’t provide content anymore

“I actually have no idea if I will return to any form of my old content... probably not actually.”

“So yeah I’m... sorry I guess. But this is it for... at least a while.”

Almost over night his follower and subscriber count halfs

He vanishes from twitter and his other social media. He doesn’t even dare to talk to his fans.

Less because he doesn’t care and more because he feels bad. Anxious even. He feels like a complete disappointment on and offline

But then he meets Akira

When he finds out Akira makes youtube videos he actually feels a jab to his heart. He had left and it felt bad to think about the platform again

Akira offers him to star in one of his videos and Ryuji warns him that he might not be the best colab partner. Obviously Akira doesn’t care.

“I don’t make content for others. I do it for myself. You’re my friend Ryuji. I want to colab with you because of that and not because you were a youtuber once.”

Ryuji stars in one of Akiras earliest coffee talks and they talk a lot about the topic of anxiety and nerveousness

Ryuji tells him about how it was back in the track team, even talks about the anxiety that hit him once he quit youtube.

they share a hug on camera before Akira turns it off

“I won’t upload it if you don’t want to. That sounded very personal for you.”

“ ‘s fine really. Kinda glad I got it off my system finally...”

His fans are happy to see him do stuff again even if on other peoples chanels!

Once the Kamoshida case is over he makes another coffee talk with Akira and Ann and they talk a lot about what happened

Ryuji: yeah and then he broke my leg... well it was calculated and all but- Ann: wait I thought you attacked him first? Ryuji: well yeah he did kinda provoke me really badly, talking shit about my family and I was irritated as hell already because of the shit he pulled with the track team. Then he said in front of everyone that I’m like my dad and I-... wanted to punch him. Akira: and he broke your tigh.... Ryuji: basically. Ann: is that why you quit youtube too? Ryuji: yeah...

Ann and Akira hug him. Ryuji manages not to cry but he’s obviously moved and the topic is heavy for him.

BIRTH OF THE RYUJI DEFENSESQUAD

Like no joke the devoted fans he has become vicious in protecting him and his pride

it almost grows outa control!

But some posts on twitter calm them down

He uploads more vlogs now and you can see his transition from super depressed to an actual sunshine

When he meets fans he naturally offers hugs and they are the warmest hugs you will get

It’s like the warmest and softest blankets

he is back to his sunshiney self and posts a lot of vlogs and some let’s plays. Well the stuff you know

@the-arkadian has a choir concert this evening and has already gone out for the pre-show rehearsal, so today is a quiet day in with freda and the cats. freda is downstairs playing games and drawing pictures of dragons, i’m upstairs playing horrible music and hanging out on the internet. i offered to sit downstairs with her and play horrible music, but she declined.

i’ve been insanely busy and very stressed lately, as well as systemically sleep deprived - and i’m 50 and not able to abuse my sleep schedule like i used to - so today is a combination of “relax a bit” and “cut down the pile of stress”. this combination never works, so i’m playing some of my guilt-pile of review items. this track by inertia is not terrible, for example. and reading tumblr, which i never seem to get around to much but enjoy when i’m in the mood for it.

mostly these days i hang out on bitcoin twitter, where i troll them as hard as i can and they repost my commentary. my goal is to get my patreon higher. like, holy shit people are gonna give me $44 of actual money come feb 1! but this does in point of fact get wearying, because this is actually completely stupid bullshit that no sane person should care about.

i have here the typeset .docx of Neoreaction a Basilisk, which i’m doing a final readthrough and proofread on, and y’know, this is actually a really good book that people should read. intellectual and laugh-out-loud funny. the main NaB is actually improved over the version many of you will have got at the time of the kickstarter. the bonus essays are frickin’ awesome and will be entirely worth paying a bit of money to get as well.

yesterday i visited the hospital and was told “congratulations, there is no physical problem causing your tinnitus! so you’re shit outa luck, sorry lol” which is about what i expected. then i slept a bit. then i went to sort out a friend’s stuff they’d left in the uk 8 years ago, and break the news to them that one box of precious sentimental clothing had been utterly destroyed by mildew and we’d had to throw it away as literally a biohazard. next: arranging a video call to sort through what of the apparently redundant paperwork is actually rubbish.

i have thirty-six tabs open and need to cut that down a bit.

a/n: so everything is pretty much the same canon stuff, only they’re juniors and not in the 8th grade

“Are you only here because Riley told you, you two are brother and sister now?”

Maya looked Lucas square in the eyes, searching for an answer. She did, she had asked him the question he was hoping she wouldn’t. He didn’t want to lie. It was true, though. He was only exploring this new scenario because he couldn’t have Riley the way he wanted. Maybe that was wrong of him to do. Another part of him was doing it because that’s what Riley said she wanted, and he tried to do everything he could to make her happy, even date her best friend.

“Answer me Friar.”

“Maya…”

“Well, that answers that.”

“I only said your name.”

“You said my name, paused, and then sighed. Which means, you’re trying to think of a way to not hurt my feelings. If you don’t like me like that, then why are you here? Because Riley blurted out that I have a crush on you?”

“Why do you have a crush on me? I thought it sickened you that you couldn’t break me, or that I’m just a nice guy.”

“It does sicken me, but I’ve seen how good you are, and it’s inspiring.”

“When did it start?”

“I first noticed the appeal, or attraction when Zay got here. Watching you really get fired up for the first time, not using wit to solve the issue, but your anger and muscle. You showed a side of yourself that I started to like.”

“A side of me that I’ve been working really hard to get rid of.”

“You know what hurt me?”

“What?”

“Back in Texas, I literally told you I would never speak to you again if you got on that bull, and you still got on. Did my friendship mean nothing to you?”

“No...it means a lot to me actually. But you had never gotten that serious with me before, and honestly, it came from out of nowhere. That was our whole reason for going to Texas in the first place. I have to say, I’ve been feeling a little resentful towards you.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because if you hadn’t stormed off, Riley never would have gotten into her head about how you felt about me. Feelings you clearly aren’t sure of what to do with yet. Right before she told me she loved me like a brother, I was finally going to ask her if we could try making things official. She completely broke my heart.”

“Guess that’s another reason why you’re here...to fill the void.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have agreed to try this out with you. I just don’t feel the same way. I should have told you that up front, but I didn’t want to make you feel the same way I did.”

“So you thought you’d humor me? Gee, thanks.”

“Maya, I care about you alot, and I truly value we have. We’ve grown a lot closer, and I’m thankful for it. I figured if you were feeling a certain way, we could at least give it a shot. What did I know? Something could have really sparked.”

“But nothing did.”

“No, and I’m so sorry. I’m still stuck on Riley. Do you really think she’d rather be going out with Charlie?”

“Here’s the appeal of Charlie. He knows what he wants, and he’s not afraid to say how he feels. You and Riley have these amazingly deep talks, are you really going to tell me that topic of you two being an item really never came up?”

“Anytime something like that would happen, we’d get shy and change the subject.”

“Well, you were never clear about what you wanted or how you were feeling, and neither was she. I don’t think she likes him more than you, but he was the best option for her after you.”

“I need to fix this.”

“No, let me. This is basically all my fault anyways. She needs to hear from me first that it’s not working out between us, and that I need to really figure out my own feelings. I’ll go see if she’s home, and I can text you when we’re done.”

She gives him a reassuring smile, and starts to walk out of the bakery. Lucas jogs out after her.

“Maya, wait a second.”

“What’s up.”

“Thank you. I’m so sorry I couldn’t-”

“Don’t apologize. Sometimes you just can’t help how you feel. I’ll be okay, now let me go fix this.”

Maya climbs up the stairs to Riley’s bay window, like she had done a million times before. She could feel this giant pit in her stomach. She knew Lucas belonged with Riley, but for some reason she let Riley step back that day in Texas.

Maya peered through the glass of the window. She usually never hesitated before entering Riley’s room, but she almost felt scared to tell Riley everything. Riley was sitting there, writing in her journal peacefully. Maya taps on the glass to catch her attention. Riley’s smile grows when she sees her best friend, and walks over to the window to let Maya in. They both sit in their usual spots.

“Okay, guess I need to be supportive here, how’d it go this time around with Lucas?”

“No smoothie dumping, if that’s what you mean.”

“Great, progress, that’s great.”

“Actually, we talked. We didn’t just sit there this time, we talked.”

“Even better.”

“We talked about you.”

“Me?”

“Yeah...it’s not gonna work between me and Lucas. There’s no spark. His words, not mine. He just doesn’t feel the same way, and well, you never should have forced him to try with me. I should have never let you-”

“Oh, so this whole situation is my fault? I was just trying to do the right thing.”

“I know, I didn’t mean to come off as blaming you for anything. It’s my fault. I was feeling something new, and I didn’t know how to handle it. It wasn’t as deep as you thought it was, and it went too far. It was just a crush.”

“A crush that deserved to be developed into something more.��

“I’m not so sure about that. He likes me as a friend, and I only have the strong feelings when he gets tough, which is side of himself he doesn’t even like. It’s one big mess Riles.”

“So what now?”

“Now, no more brother and sister, no more Charlie. You and Lucas need to talk and figure it out. He wants to be with you Riley, not me. He made that clear.”

“I’m sorry, I really did try to help.”

“I know, and I appreciate everything you did.”

“If he and I start being offcial, how are you gonna be? I don’t want you sitting there being resentful, and then all of a sudden you hate me and we’re not friends anymore.” “I won’t let that happen. I know when to talk to you when I’m having an issue. If I start feeling sore towards the two of you, I promise we’ll talk about it. That just means you both will have to go on your own little dates, get the cute stuff outa your system for when we all hang out together.”

“You’re sure you’ll-”

“Stop worrying about how I feel, and worry about how you feel. I want you to be happy too Riles. Call him, ask him to come over, or you go to his place, I don’t know. Just figure it out.”

The two hug, and Maya leaves Riley to sit there with her thoughts. RIley felt bad that she felt such a big sense of relief that things didn’t work out between Maya and Lucas. She sends him a text to see if she can go over to his house.

Riley goes out to her living room, and sees her parents watching TV.

“Mom, dad? Is it alright if I go over to Lucas’ for a little bit. There’s something he and I need to talk about.”

Both Cory and Topanga’s whip around to look at Riley with deep concern.

“Is everything alright?” Topanga asks, getting up from her spot on the couch.

“Yeah, everything’s great actually. We’re going to talk about us, and what we want from each other.”

“Ummmm.” Cory also gets up. “And what exactly is that?”

“To be official. No more games, no more pushing each other away, no more putting our own feelings on the sidelines to make others happy.”

“What about him and Maya?” Asks Topanga, still concerned.

“He told her earlier today it just wasn’t gonna happen for them. She just left, she told me everything. She was the one that told me to go talk to him. So, is it okay?”

“I don’t see why not. Just be home before curfew, and text one of us when you get there.” Cory says.

“Thanks guys.”

A half hour train ride later, Riley arrives at Lucas’ townhouse. He is out front waiting for her on his porch swing. She goes right up the stairs, and sits down next to him.

“Hi.” She says looking down, blushing, butterflies in her stomach.

“Hey.” He says, biting down on his bottom lip, unsure of how to start the conversation.

“Maya came over earlier, she told me what happened.”

“She took it better than I thought. I still feel bad though.”

“Me too. She’s my best friend, I just wanted her to be happy.”

“And I think she wants you to be happy too.”

“She does, which is why she told me to come see you. Apparently, we need to talk.”

“You know what was funny? She said it was weird that you and I talk all the time, have these really meaningful conversations, and we never discuss what we are to each other.”

“And what did you have to say about that?”

“That whenever it was slightly brought up, we’d basically change the subject.”

“Why do you think we do that?”

“Probably because we’re afraid that the other might not feel the same way. Or that maybe we just weren’t ready to go there because it’s kind of a big deal and change.” He pauses, and puts his hand on hers, and she looks up at him. “But, I’m not afraid of any of it anymore. I don’t want to risk losing you to someone else because I can’t just tell you how I feel.”

“Same here.”

“Riley, I really want to be official with you. I want to be your boyfriend. I want to take you to every single dance, hold your hand when we walk down the hall, and continue being the one you have the really important conversations with. Are those things you want? Because if they’re not, that’s okay, but it would be nice to know.”

“Those are all things that I definitely want Lucas, more than you’ll ever know. I think we should give it a shot. I think we’ve both matured since last year. I think I’m actually ready to have a boyfriend, and be a girlfriend. I want to be with you. No more unofficial thing.”

“Great, so let’s make it official.”

“I don’t know how to be a girlfriend.”

“It’s not a job that you need years of training for Riley. We can just be us, just a more exclusive us. Plus…”

“Plus what?”

“Well, I mean we keep doing what we’ve been doing, only we get to kiss and stuff. That’s really what sets people apart from being just friends and being in a relationship.”

“We’ve kissed before, and we stayed just friends.”

“I don’t think either of us really knew what that kiss meant. I know that I couldn’t kiss Maya.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because I wanted to kiss you. I wanted to have that intimacy with you, and only you.”

“Alright then.”

Riley puts her hands on Lucas’ cheeks, like she had done those years ago on the train. She leaned in and kissed Lucas. Instead of it being a quick lip touch like before, this time he pulled her in closer, and they had a good, long kiss. They let go of each other and smiled.

“I guess this means we’re official.” Says Riley.

“Yeah, I guess so.”

Lucas puts an arm around Riley, and she snuggles into him. They rock on the porch swing, watching cars go by, watching the stars around the moon. They sat there quietly, enjoying each other’s company. Riley looks at her phone and realizes it’s getting a little late.

“It’s getting late, I should probably start making my way home.”

“Let me drive you. The traffic shouldn't be too crazy right now.”

“That would be great.”

Since Lucas was a year older, that meant he got his license before any of their friends. His parents got him a truck. Not exactly ideal for city life, but it was what he wanted. He was right, the traffic wasn’t too crazy, and he got Riley home in plenty of time.

“Well thanks for bringing me home. I guess tomorrow we can announce to the world that we’re official.”

“Why bother? The world can figure it out.”

“What about our friends.”

“I don’t know. I’d almost like to see how long it takes them to figure it out.”

“Or how about we take a picture of the two of us right now, send it in the group text, and then not answer any of their questions until tomorrow. That’ll really drive them nuts.”

“I like the way you think.”

Riley holds her phone up, and at the last second Lucas kisses her on the cheek. She blushes, and almost drops her phone.

“Just another thing to get used to, but I’m not complaining. Goodnight Lucas.”

“Goodnight Riley.”

Riley gets up to her bedroom, and flops onto her cozy bed. Butterflies still in her stomach, but this time they were the good kind. She never felt happier.

“It’s really just a simple smash and grab it’s not like a super crazy involved con or anything…” Irene said. It was much easier to run a con when the best in the business wasn’t watching your every move.

“What does it involve?” Nate asked. Arlana gestured to Irene who swiveled around and projected they job on the wall.

“Not much. We’re just stealing a painting. It’s a Van Delen. A lot of his painting were stolen by Nazis in World War II and “Never recovered.” By never recovered, of course I mean absolutely recovered, but then sold on the black market to make people with shady moral standing a lot of money. One of those people is James Anderson, he’s got “Nature Morte” hanging up in his VP’s office. Steal that, give it back to the Schloss’ and the con’s over.”

“Sounds good. We’ll let you run the con, we’ll just be here as backup, just in case.” Hardison said. Arlana nodded.

“Levada, go get Jesse and Julia, you three will do the con.” Levada nodded and pulled out her phone and looked up. Two seconds later, there was a loud buzzing heard from the ceiling and then muffled whispers. Levada pointed up.

“Found ‘em.” Arlana sighed.

“Girls, c’mon, we have guests, get outa there.” The girls reluctantly found their way to the grate before gracefully dropping down to the floor.

“So we’re stealing a painting?” Julia asked.

“We could do that in our sleep, blind folded, and backwards.” Jesse retorted.

“Well then I guess it’s a very good thing that you will be awake, able to see, and face forward, so that this job will be short.” “C’mon girls, the van’s out back.” Levada led the two thieves to the back enterence. Irene slowly got up.

“They might need me to get past the security systems, so I’m going with.” She said as she hurried out.

“Pick up Moriah on your way!” Arlana shouted after her.

“Lev, keep an eye out for the guards, they seem unusually active today,” Irene said, typing away at her computer. “Moriah can only distract so many of them.” There was a tinkling of laughter over the coms.

“And do you know vhat I said?” Moriah said in a Russian accent, “I said “No, I can’t do zat today, but come back tomorrow…” Irene rolled her eyes. How could people fall for such a stupid ruse? But whatever works to get the job done works for me, Irene thought.

“J squared, you got a guard coming up, Lev, can you—“ there was a sound of flesh colliding with flesh and Irene watched as the guard fell back.

“I told ya, I got it.” Levada replied, turning back to Jesse and Julia. “How much longer?”

“Done!” Jesse said as she opened the door to the office. Inside there was a beautiful painting hanging directly over a leather rolling chair Julia sighed happily. They both carefully took down the painting and covered it up with cloth. Before they left, Jesse left a note for the VP in place of the painting. Then they got the hell out of there.

“Vhat is going on? Vhat is all of this red lights?” Moriah asked, partially to the guards, but mostly to her team.

“Goddamnit, Levada, you tripped on of the trip wires again.” Irene said, furiously tapping away trying to get the alarm to turn off. “Well maybe if ya gave me a list of the trip wires I wouldn’t fall for ‘em, Irene!” Levada said through clenched teeth, pushing Jesse and Julia through the open door to the elevator just as some guards rounded the corner.

“Burn,” Jesse suggests. Julia and Lavada nod in unison and they both begin to apply face prosthetics and a couple of braces to her. They finished just in time for the elevator to ding open and they escorted her out. Moriah had already left, pretending to be scared off by the sirens and flashing lights. Irene pulled up in the van and Julia slid the door open for the other two women.

“How did they not notice you were carrying a painting?” Moriah asked with a laugh.

“Chaos,” Julia replied, “Chaos makes it easy to slip things past people. They’re not paying full attention to you, just the threat.” Jesse was pulling the prosthetics off her face, but she paused to high five her thieving friend.

“I’m going to call her.” Arlana said, “This job was too easy, and we don’t want to give the Schloss’ a fake.” Julia and Jesse rolled their eyes but the let their mastermind go with her gut.

“I happen to know an art dealer, if you’d like me to call her.” Nate offered, knowing there was always a chance that Maggie was in town.

“That’s very kind of you, but we have one of our own on tap,” she replied, putting the phone to her ear and walking off slightly.

“They’re doing good work here,” Hardison said to Nate. “They’re helping people. On a much larger scale than we ever could with just one team.” Nate smiled and nodded.

“I’m proud of you.”

“OK, Becca’s gonna be over in soon to evaluate the painting,” Arlana announced to the group. They all nodded and then went back to what they had been doing previously. Hardison was talking with Irene about coding, Eliot was talking with Lavada about technique, Parker with Julia and Jesse about the different things they’d stolen both together and separately, and Sophie was talking with Moriah about the different character’s she’d created. That left Nate and Arlana.

“They’re good kids, really,” she said, surveying her team. “They really care a lot about not only the job but the people, too. I mean, sure everyone could improve, but we’re doing good here.”

“Doing well,” Nate corrected her.

“No, we’re doing good.” Nate smiled at her sentiment. “Lavada used to be a part of a private security group, but she quit after she got in too deep with some of the clients; Irene was a computer science student at CalTech when she was framed for committing computer fraud, but when she exposed who it really was, they still kicked her out; Julie’s been living on and off the streets for years, grifting her way into a person’s life, only to steal their wallet or something else valuable. She’s never been caught. Moriah’s getting to Sophie levels of grifting, and our expert, Becca, she’s the only truly honest and straight forward friend I have.” Nate nodded. He knew the feeling. The only family he had left, was the family he left to go be with Sophie. And sure, they were doing just fine without him, but that was what hurt the most. Almost as if she had read his mind, she spoke. “The only reason they’re as good as they are is because they learned how to work as a team from you. That’s how they taught us. They could only do that with experience.” Nate sighed and opened his mouth to speak when there was a loud noise like a gunshot multiplied by 100 that came from outside.

“Sorry! My car backfired! I just had it fixed last week, I’m so sorry for the noise!” A young woman apologized profusely as her car steamed.

“I don’t think that’s just a backfire ma’am, would you mind if I…?” One of the gym patrons had come out to see what the fuss was about. He gestured toward the smoking hood. “I’m a mechanic.”

“Oh would you? Thank you so much!” She went from apologizing to thanking in a matter of seconds. The teams went back inside.

“Hey did you move the painting?” Jesse asked Julia. “Cause I set it on the table and now it’s on the floor.”

“Maybe you dropped it,” Julia suggested.

“Or maybe the gym’s haunted,” suggested Moriah, wiggling her fingers. Julia rolled her eyes but Jesse scrunched her forehead up

“The gym’s not haunted, is it Arlana?” She called to the front.”

“It’s not haunted.” Was the reply. Moriah giggled to herself. Almost on cue, Becca walked in the door.

Dinner and a Talk

The first week on board the Eclector, Peter basically hid in the vent system, snuck out to the mess hall for food once everyone was gone and it was quiet, and continuously ignored the shouted demands of the captain to “Get his scrawny Terran ass outa the vent, so help me”

Unfortunately his vent adventures came to a rather abrupt end. He supposes he might have become a little predictable.

The hinges on the cover squeaked quietly when he opened them, and the coast looked clear. The vent was stationed into the wall, right above a counter in the mess hall which was convenient for the short boy. The kitchen or galley was through a door on the other side of the mess.

With a practiced ease he lowered himself to the counter and then hopped off, running quickly for the door on the other side. Right before he was about to enter, the door opened and Kraglin, who Peter now knew to be the First Mate on the ship, walked out.

“Figured you’d get hungry soon enough, an come in here sneakin’ in like a rat.” The first mate muttered rather annoyed sounding.

Quill wasted no time in sprinting back to the vent opening. He stopped short when he realized that the captain was leaning against the counter, effectively blocking that escape route. Not giving it two seconds of thoughts he ran in a different direction, hoping to out run the larger and slower adults.

If he could make it out to the hall there was another vent that he could probably reach, and once again escape his abductees.

The sound of lazy whistling killed his plan, or the concept of a plan, that he had had. Quill had seen enough of the ship and the crew, while safely hidden inside the vents, to know that the captains arrow was quick and always on point. The two adults he might have been able to outrun, but there was no outrunning the arrow.

Facing the captain he was unsurprised to find the Yaka Arrow making curling loops and flips in the air around Yondu’s head.

The captain looked him up and down and gave him a ragged, silvered tooth smirk. He reminded Peter of a shark.

“ Kraglin, back ta your duties.” Yondu stated bluntly. “What should I do with the brat, sir?"Kraglin questioned hesitantly.

"You ain’t doing nothin’ with him. Already seen how well havin’ you watch him goes. Can’t even control a little pup, pathetic.” Kraglin turned a little red at that comment, either from embarrassment or anger, Peter couldn’t tell, and gave a curt ‘sir’ before taking his leave.

“You ain’t gonna give me no trouble now, are yea?” The blue man asked, arrow still floating around him.

“No sir.” The boys quiet reply came, eyes still glued to the weapon, waiting.

“That’s what I thought.” With a shove Yondu pushed himself off the counter and started walking toward the galley. “Come on then.”

Peter thought quickly about making a run for it, but decided against it, he’d seen that arrow go faster than anything, and started to follow the captain, making sure to keep a good space between them.

He was scared. His legs were shaking and he drew in air faster than he could get it out, but the boy didn’t cry and Quill considered that victory.

The inside of the galley had what looked like a stove and an oven, with some shelves filled with different things, some in cans and some not. A giant door to the far right held a freezer of some sort and that was about it.

The Captain was busy looking through some things on the shelf pulling this and that off. Turning around he handed the stuff to Peter with a quick 'stay put’ before going back to the shelf.

While wondering what Yondu could be doing, a memory came back from a week ago, where the captain had threatened to make him into an appetizer for his crew. Fear seized his heart cold and unforgiving as he shook, he took a few steps back before hitting the wall.

“I’m sorry I ran away!” He cried out to Yondu, fat tears spilling down his face, and small hiccups escaping. “ I won’t do it again, sir! Please don’t cook me. I don’t want to be an appetizer!” He wailed.

Yondu had turned around and was staring at the kid, confused as to why he was crying and what had started it. It wasn’t until the last part that comprehension dawned on the centurian, and looking around he could understand why the kid was thinking Yondu planned to eat him.

Scared as the kid was Yondu could still see his tiny mind trying to come up with rebuttal, with a reason why he shouldn’t be eaten, it was almost endearing. Almost.

Well, he’s not wrong on that account. The boy was small, small enough to fit the in the vents and hide there for a week, also smart enough to know where and when to come out for food. He had the makings of a decent thief. Hell, thought Yondu, he could probably come in handy on some jobs.

“I can be useful, I’ll prove it. Just wait.” Peter’s shaking had died off a considerable amount and a spark had gone off in his eyes.

“Well, in that case looks like I need to make something else for supper than.” With that Yondu went back to what he had been doing all along, which was just making himself and the kid something to eat.

Once the centurian had all of his ingredients he started making himself something similar to an omelette, except it was green, with purplish spots on it.

once that was done The pair returned to the mess hall and sat down at one of the tables.

As soon as the food was placed in front of the Terran he dug in like a wild animal, basically inhaling the thing.

Yondu just watched him from where he sat, his mind wandering to other things.

Peter didn’t look much like his siblings, the ones Yondu had delivered before him, but that wasn’t to surprising seeing how they were all different species and such. Thinking of the other children that he had transported brought a frown to his face. Every kid that got picked up got a translator, but those devices also had other applications, like a tracking system and a biological scanner. That way Yondu could keep an eye on em’ while in his ship and monitor there vitals to boot.

The captain had forgotten about those extra measures once the kids were off his ship. That is until Peter up and disappeared and he logged on to find out where the runt went, only to notice that all of his other siblings trackers reported back the same thing, that there hosts where deceased. Ravagers don’t feel things like guilt, cause that’s sentiment, and sentiment is a death wish in this life; but that doesn’t mean the captain didn’t feel his equivalent of it. He had brought those kids to their death, he knew it. So now he had to make up for it, and if that meant depositing this brat on some Nova Corps world so he could get picked up and join with the other hundred thousand refugee orphans, then so be it. At least he’ll be alive and Peter’s father won’t know where to find him. Good thing that bastard payed in advance.

A quiet 'thank you’ broke the Centurian out of his thoughts. Looking over he saw that Quill had finished his food and was staring a hole at the table.

“So you got manners, that’s nice to know. Maybe you got a brain in there after all.” Came the Ravager’s reply, all gruff and sneering.

Quill looked up at that remark, his glare now focused on the man in front of him. “I do have a brain. I’m not stupid.”

“Coulda have fooled me, you couldn’t even listen when Kraglin told yea to stay put, even animals know that command kid.” Yondu threw back at him. Peter’s lips twitched like he was fighting a smile, curious as to what the kid could find amusing, the captain barked out “ Whats so funny to yea, that your dumb as bricks?”

“He said 'stay put’ so I stayed put, on the ship.” The ghost of a grin was gone from the Terran’s face, but his eyes had a glint of mischief to em’.

So he was a sarcastic one wasn’t he, the ravaged thought, that’s gonna have to be fixed.“You think your clever, huh?” And leaning across the table Yondu cuffed him on his ear, not too hard but enough to hurt.

He said the public option will work the same way public colleges and Universities without inhibiting a vibrant system of private colleges and Universities. This is a fool's argument and a total apples to oranges comparison. Let me explain, first almost all private universities receive funding from the federal government. The federal government is not going to provide funding for private insurance. The second reason is it's common knowledge that the best Universities in the U.S. are private schools such as Duke, Stanford, and the Ivy League. These universities fill most of the highest paying jobs in the country. Some jobs even go as far as to require a degree from one of these schools (Stock Brokers on NYC Stock Exchange.) These highly paid graduates can donate larger amounts of money back to their respective colleges than the average Joe who graduated from a generic state funded university. No one is going to donate money to the private insurance companies. We can't even get all the people who qualify for insurance to sign up and that's the problem! Look, I have no way of knowing whether the public option will work or won't but when faulty logic is used to support it I become concerned. When most of the people supporting the public option are from California (a state where the middle class is few and far between) I become more concerned. When most of the Senators and Representatives who support the public option say they would prefer the U.S. had a single payer system (that's total government control of health care if you didn't know) I become very concerned. The reality is no one knows what the effects of public option will be. Also, the success of FedEx is not any proof that public option won't hurt private companies because an independent council regulates the mail industry. A few days ago I scraped a co-worker's vehicle in our work parking lot. She wasn't in a proper parking space, but whatever, it was clearly my fault. I am paying for repairs to her car. I have pictures of my vehicle after the accident, but not of hers, because she left for the day while I was trying to find out who I had hit and find her in the building. I haven't brought this up with my insurance company yet. I initially thought I was going to be paying for scuffs to be buffed out of her back bumper, which wouldn't be cheap to fix but I figured it'd be inexpensive enough that I wouldn't involve my insurance. Today she handed me an estimate for $600+ for bumper replacement and paint work, etc. Fine. It was my fault. I'll eat it. But if I now want to involve my insurance, what do I do? Do I need her insurance info to file a claim? If I call up my insurance, does her insurance have to also become involved? I'm not even fixing my car - the fender's messed up but it's an old car and cosmetic damage doesn't bother me.
