even though I am leaving the industry I got a lot to say about public perception of morticians/undertakers. usually the response I get when I tell ppl what I do is “that’s weird” and if there’s a piece of media (usually horror) set in a mortuary/funeral home the discussion around it is always ewwww gross dead bodies these ppl are WEIRD for working here. and it’s like man. the ppl working in this industry are SO passionate about ensuring the dignity and care of dead bodies - the most vulnerable people ever bc they literally cannot do anything if any kind of abuse happens. and yes I say people bc to the ppl working in these environments, they ARE people, not just bodies or objects. they’re loved ones, and we consider it an immense privilege to be trusted by families to look after their loved one. it’s a hard job, physically and emotionally, and sometimes thankless. but when you’re actually faced with grief, you’ll be so grateful for a mortician/undertaker that cares and is passionate about their craft, I promise you

I haven’t drawn these two in a while and wanted to see how different they look since then. They look relatively the same, my art style’s just improved lol
For those unaware these two were made for a “fake game” zine that got cancelled— but I got so attached to them and the concept that I kept them around. The premise is that an anxiety-ridden college student gets haunted by the demonic spirit of a dead rockstar and the two work together to win Vee concert tickets to her favorite artist, “Von Bomba”, while also figuring out the mysterious circumstances around Andi’s death.
At some point in time I’ll get to covering their story, but for now you get one off illustrations and concept art !!! 💥

with the conversations of TAG negotiations and wages bubbling up I'm thinking again about when I had my first storyboard supervisor role in 2022 I didn't find out til months later that I was getting paid 7k less /year than someone I was supervising. Extremely cool and definitely not humiliating ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
anyways. no matter the industry please talk to your coworkers about wages and advocate for yourself and others, I'm begging

I work in Canada where we desperately need unions bc shit like this happens.#i did get a raise after I found out and talked to prod. but it was maddening and it dealt a lot of psychic damage to me#it also wasnt enough tbh. my wage met that same artist's. and I know others in lower positions than me were getting paid more#all because of 'experience'. on one hand sure.
