I feel ashamed for HOW LONG i let this ask just rot in my askbox (it's from january, apparently, now it's april. i thought maybe two weeks passed but NO. it was months. ANON I AM SO SO SO SO SORRY. I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART) but now with the power of this url and the wine i am currently sipping, let me give you the best, most thought-out answer that i possibly can.

I don't know how long you've been following/watching spn, so I won't get into real deep iceberg theories that go back to season 8 and jeremy carver, for the purpose of this essay answer I'll just stick to the year anno domini 2020, and will try to do my best to tell you what happened.

Okay, maybe 2019. So, in june 2019, when the first scripts and drafts for s15 are presented, these things happen: 1. apparently, according to Berens, the confession scene is the first thing that was written for season 15. 2. Jensen Ackles is sat down and asked if he would be okay with this. (question is asked: why would they ask jensen if all he does in this scene is look at cas, he doesn't say anything, he does not confess, it changes nothing about his character, etc.; if you put the real tjlc tinfoil hat on you'd ask hey , maybe they asked him if precisely that is okay, if he is okay with the fact dean is practically silenced here but that's Deep) 3. Jensen apparently is okay with that, because it happens.

also this thing happens around the same time: 1. they write the ending for the brothers, and no matter what version of the finale we're talking about, Dean dies 2. Jensen Ackles is Not Okay with this. he calls Kripke who then, in a call and/or email assures him it's a good ending (Jensen says that) and also very quickly after that Jensen is announced to play Soldier Boy in Kripke's The Boys. make of that what you want

They film, blah blah, march 2020, covid happens, they stop production right after they film the confession. Last episode to air is 15x13, last episode they film is 15x18, they almost have a plane crush when flying to vegas con, and then, a loooong break until august 2020. Now, from what we know, there were two versions of the finale - the pre-covid finale they were supposed to film if the filming schedule wasn't interrupted, and the finale that happened.

What was supposed to be in the Original Finale/Pre-Covid Finale, we still don't know exactly, but from what the cast said, there was supposed to be a big cast reunion, Harvelle's Roadhouse in Heaven, Kansas Band (why are they dead?) playing there after Dean gets there and so on.

Anyway. July 2020. Misha does a livestream with Michael Sheen (the SuperGood campaign) where he says he is going back to filming the last two episodes in a few weeks. he said it LIVE. it's on youtube. people analyze the background from Misha's livestreams and photos and conclude he is in Vacouver, where spn is filmed. He also says that he is going back filming in a few interviews. Also here.

August 2020. They go back to filming in august 2020 to film 15x19 and 15x20.

August 24th, 2020, day 6/8 of filming 15x19, Angel with a Shotgun is hash tag Song of The Day while filming scenes of 15x19 (scene 28, 31).

September 4th, 2020. ALL THEY FILM, for the whole DAY, is one scene. They usually film a few. They film one. Song of the day? The Night We Met.

Somewhere before the episodes starts to air again, Dabb says only 30% of the audience will like the finale. Anyway, everyone concludes, Misha is filming, destiel is more or less going canon, but everyone including bibros is sure Misha is filming and will be there for the finale.

Originally, "Despair" was called "The Truth".

Finale airs.

It feels shorter (apparently it's not) but it does have an additional ad break. For Walker. But it feels shorter because of the "carry on my wayward son" cover montage that lasts too long and later it's discovered thanks to scripts that dropped that there are ELEVEN scenes that were filmed,, but didn't make it to the episode. The script that drops is also very telling, where scenes are just [OMMITTED]. It was explained that they wanted to have actor there but they didn't want actors to quarantine for two weeks to film one or two scenes BUT then that's exactly what they did with Jim Beaver lmao.

So yeah. I also remember Misha at a con (DarkLight?) where, after asked about the original ending, he answers that the original ending was something that would be better explored in fanfiction anyway. Theory rises he filmed and was cut off the episode without his or Jensen's knowledge because Misha sat down his kids to watch the spn finale (which was the first episode they were supposed to watch ever, why would he do that if he's not there?) and then, CW SPN twitter posts a goodbye video that has everyone from the cast and their mother BUT MISHA AND JENSEN ARE NOT THERE. Jensens sexy silence starts.

THEN THE WILDEST THING HAPPENS.

November 25th, the Spanish Dub. 15x18 drops in Brazil and Dean says "and i you" to Cas, after he confesses. No "don't do this cas" but "and i you". Tumblr stops working for two hours, people on discords are screaming, no one knows whats happening, someone claims Jensen was called in September 2020 to record some adlibs? To record the muffled sobs Dean does while on the floor. Theory is supported by the fact that in the Bazil version? When Dean sits on the floor? The sound that plays are birds. Chirping birds. Sounds don't match, what was Dean saying while crying on the floor, question arises.

Everyone decides there was a Rogue Translator who managed to hide from The CW Sniper (who is the reason actors just dont tell us everything) and translated some kind of Original Script. Voice Actors are invited to a podcast where they debunk this saying that it was added because the translator felt this was the right response or something like that. Anyway they debunk the fact that there existed, at any time, a version of a script, that maybe was send to them, where Dean says I love you too. This was a wild night, no one slept.

And like. I could make this post longer, but I am planning to, one day, make a huge masterpost with real sources about that because honestly you could write a book about it.

But tl;dr spngate is a theory that misha did film for the last 2 episodes and the changes they made were truly last minute (september 2020), they were going for a canon destiel, possibly human!cas engame, dabb was always on our side, and it's based on stuff like jensen actively hating the ending to the point he made his prequel after 2 years of radio silence, 11 scenes just cut from the finale, misha saying he is going back filming, and people like mark pellegrino saying the last scene he filmed was with alex and misha. also the onion field. why lamp is the theory that cas is represented and symbolized by lamps throughout the show and when dean dances with a Lamp in a drug induced dream instead of, say, some kind of a lady he is actually thinking about cas.

also there are little things like when jensen at an online con before the finale says that oh yes i am wearing a grey flannel but tomorrow? who know it could be blue and green. and we all collectively lost our shit. like when he said he is most excited to "tackle" with cas in season 15. or that "dean has no taste, clearly". WHY WAS YOUR PERMISSION NEEDED JENSEN

literally the crypt / prisoner fight scene parallels make me insane the way dean and cas hardly put up a fight against the other, esp once they think they're gonna die by the other's hand. they give up the fight, don't want to hurt the other bc they know it's not them, they're being manipulated and controlled (by naomi / the mark) and it's usually that moment of just giving up and asking them to stop that snaps them out of it, when they shouldn't be able to snap out of it. (similarly w/ them snapping out of lucifer and amara's control too, cas is able to gain control back for a bit / dean is able to snap out of amara's spell when cas is around)

like obvs i do think the brothers care abt each other but just, nearly every time** they've tried to kill each other it's been other people / circumstances that stop them. whereas for dean and cas it's usually them snapping themselves out of it. and that sure is something !

also like. i can just never ever ever forget dean trying to bargain with chuck to get everyone on earth back including cas (and the birds!) by saying he'll straight up kill sam if that means they all come back (crucially. cas. "you got to bring him back.") he'd kill sam ! that's how crazy desperate he was. he'd be willing to do that if it meant bringing cas back. insane insane. how do the brothers only ppl reconcile with a line like that huh??? i mean, they probs just pretend it doesn't exist. like they seem to do with so much of this show lol

(also the flipside of that line, "or sam will kill me. we'll kill each other" just. speaks to how suicidal he was feeling then imo.)

summary:

"He digs the tape out of his bag and propels it across the messy files and books strewn all over the table over to Cas like he blames it for everything that has gone wrong since he was born. Cas picks it up slowly and stares in stillness and careful wonder at where Dean has scrawled 'SONGS FOR CAS' on the tape."

Dean's love language is music, and all his favourite songs remind him of Castiel, and his feelings are so embarrassing that only Taylor Swift gets it. Being denial about all three of these things makes it a lot harder to give Castiel a mixtape than it has to be.

Two Dads, Two Daughters, and a Dog

The doorbell rings and barking sounds out, a big black lab scratching at the front door as Dean goes to open it. He hadn’t even realized the time, so it was a good thing he was the host, then. 

“Baby, down,” Dean orders, and the black lab sits, eyes still fixed on the door, whining softly. Dean rolls his eyes at her as her eyes dart towards the stairs, hearing little footsteps pattering towards them.

Baby leaps up from her sitting position and tackles Emma, licking the six year-old’s cheek. “Dad, is Claire here? I heard the doorbell,” Emma sing-songs, running up to cling to Dean’s leg as Baby continues licking her.

Dean exhales sharply, reaching for the door. “I shouldn’t have agreed to—“ he mutters, suddenly stopping himself when he makes eye contact with the man on his porch.

Cas always was well put together, kind, and approachable at school events, but the way his eyes shine in the summer sun up close? Dean’s mouth goes dry.

“Claire!” Emma shouts, stepping outside to wrap Claire in a big hug, one Claire instantly tries to avoid.

“Em, does Claire want a hug?” Dean scolds, and instantly, Emma drops her arms from Claire, nodding. 

“High five?” Emma asks, and Claire nods, offering Emma several high fives before running off into the front yard, Emma chasing after her. 

Cas sighs, extending a hand to Dean. “Castiel Novak,” he says, “Well, you know my name, considering I’m at your house, and all I ever hear is Emma this, Emma that,” he rambles, stuttering, “Uhm, may I come in?”

Dean steps back and gestures Cas inside, quickly leading him through the kitchen and out the backdoor to avoid Baby’s barking. Emma’s playset was back here, and the girls would most definitely be playing on it, and Dean thought it the responsible thing to supervise them, no matter how badly he wanted to attempt some non-child-friendly activities with Cas. 

“Dad, look!” Emma shouts from the top of her playset, waving to the two men in lawn chairs below. “Look how high I am!”

Dean laughs, shouting back, “I know, Em, I built the thing.” He looks over at Castiel to see the man chuckling to himself a bit, elbowing Dean.

“You built this for her?” Cas asks, and Dean blushes. It was a month-long project, but he’d pushed through, and all that handiwork he’d done had paid off.

Dean nods. “Yeah, it’s her favorite. It was a gift for her fifth birthday.” 

Instinctively, both Dean and Cas look to the playset, hearing a little shriek. “Claire, that tickles, stop it!” Emma giggles from afar, and both fathers quickly relax, hearing that their daughters are both alright.

Turning back to Cas, Dean inhales sharply. “Sorry if this is personal, but I’ve never seen you with anyone at the PTA meetings,” he says, avoiding eye contact with Cas as he says it.

Cas sighs. “Claire’s mother and father died when she was little. I’m technically her uncle, though I’ve been her guardian for four years,” he explains, pausing before adding, “And, no, I’m not seeing anyone.”

Not knowing what to say, Dean places a hand on Cas’ shoulder as he thinks. “I’m sorry. That must have been pretty rough for the both of you. I can’t imagine losing my brother,” Dean says hesitantly, cursing himself for not changing the subject.

Cas smiles softly in return. “Thank you, Dean. It is kind of you to say that. Claire and I both struggle with it still, and I apologize in advance if she ever lashes out at Emma about it.”

Now it’s Dean’s turn to sigh. “I think Emma will understand, on some level. It’s just her, me, and Baby. I think, sometimes, she might miss her mom, even though she never knew her.” Dean lowers his gaze, shrugging.

“I’m sorry, who is ‘Baby’?” Cas asks after a moment, and Dean can’t hold back a snort of laughter.

He looks up at the girls on the playset, rolling his eyes happily. “Hey, Em, you wanna introduce Claire to Baby?”

Emma shrieks happily, jumping down from the playset and making Dean wince, hoping she hadn’t twisted an ankle. Based on the fact that she was still running towards the back door, she hadn’t. 

“Baby! Come here, Baby,” Emma calls in a gooey voice, high pitched and sweet, exactly how anyone of any age would talk to a dog. Baby, deciding to listen to her owners for once in her life, rushes out and jumps up on Emma, her tongue hanging from her mouth.

Cas’ eyes are wide when Dean looks over at him, and he’s got his head tilted a bit, like he’s not sure how to feel. 

“Her real name is Chevy,” Dean chuckles, unsure of what to say, “But Emma couldn’t really pronounce that and latched onto calling her Baby instead, since I was always calling Em ‘Baby’ when she was little. It kinda stuck.” 

In the background, Dean can hear Emma introducing Baby to Claire, Claire making little cooing noises at the dog in response, but he’s not really focused on that. No, he’s focused on Cas.

“Can I…” Cas trails off, shaking his head. “No, it’s okay.” 

Dean furrows his eyebrows. “What? ‘Can you’ what?”

Castiel smiles at Dean, rolling his eyes. “I was going to ask if I could pet her, but I don’t want to ruin the girls’ fun. I’ll meet Baby later.” 

Something about the way he says it gets Dean, hits him right in the heart, and before he can even consider how crazy he sounds, the words are forcing themselves out of his throat. “Emma’s mom’s not in the picture.”

It’s quiet, save for the girls laughing fifteen feet away from them. 

“What?” Cas asks slowly, those beautiful blues staring at Dean, carving into him,

“I’m also bisexual. If you’re- ah. If you’re even. Well.” Dean stutters, flushing bright red.

He was officially insane.

“Y’know what?” Dean laughs, trying to save his situation, “I’m gonna go grab the girls some snacks. I’ll, uh, be back in a bit.”

Without even looking at Castiel, Dean rushes inside, taking an apple and a knife and attempting to cut it before seeing that he’s clearly shaking too much for that. Fuck, really? His only option now was chips, and who the fuck would Cas think he was then, feeding Emma and Claire junk?

He hears the back door open and close, plastering on a smile as he says, “Em, don’t worry, I just left to grab snacks.” 

There’s a soft chuckle, deeper than Emma or Claire, and Dean groans. 

Dean turns around, barely setting down the apple and the knife on the kitchen counter before Cas is on him, kissing him like there’s no tomorrow, like their kids aren’t right outside.

“Fuck,” Dean mutters into Cas’ lips, stuck on whether to push him away or pull him even closer. “Cas,” Dean groans, since he’s the only thing on Dean’s mind, and that seems to snap Cas out of it, pulling back from Dean.

“I apologize,” Castiel blurts out, “I apologize if I misread that.”

There’s one stunned second between them, and then Dean is smiling, laughing, grabbing Cas’ shoulders and pulling him into a hug, face buried in Cas’ neck. “God, you’re perfect,” Dean laughs, “Wow.”

Cas doesn’t bother responding, only hugging Dean back for a moment until they both relax, separating. Cas is focused on something beyond Dean, staring a hole in the counter until Dean turns around and realizes it’s the apple, watching Cas walk up to it.

Carefully, Cas slices the apple, setting half on one plate and half on another, shuffling around in Dean’s pantry. “Do you have peanut butter? Claire likes her apple slices with peanut butter,” he explains, and all Dean can do is smile and point to a shelf.

Castiel finds the peanut butter and puts some on the edge of Claire’s plate, offering the other plate to Dean. Dean accepts it, still a bit shaky and completely in awe. 

“I don’t know how to do this,” Dean admits quietly, shrugging. “Emma’s mom was a one night. I don’t know if I’ve ever tried something stable. And we’d have to be stable. Give it our best shot, for the girls.”

Again, a soft smile makes its way onto Cas’ face. “I’d love to give it my best shot,” Cas replies, just as softly as Dean, reaching out for Dean’s hand. Cas chuckles softly, adding, “So long as it means I get to pet Baby.”

Dean explodes into laughter, mirroring the giggles of Claire and Emma outside. “Of course. Baby will never refuse extra pets.” 

With that, they bring the girls their apple slices.

Alfie's End of Year Rec List 2024

Out of 447,090 words and 141 total fics, this year I wrote a whole 224k and 78 fics, which is a lot more than last year. I wrote for 10 different ships this year, including 3 new ones. Yay for progress, I guess.

Anyway, to celebrate a rather productive year here at the_oncoming_stormageddon's AO3 dashboard, I've decided to compile a list of all of my favorite fics that I would reccommend :D number three will shock you!

In a shocking turn of events, I lied, sorry. This is about my graphs. It's always about my graphs. All graphs are up to date as of 12/21/2023, and there isn't even a missing word somewhere that has to be accounted for!

(Did I type all of this up, realize I had another fic to post, and then have to go back in and fix everything? ...perhaps)

Anyway. Let's start with Taylor Swift.

As always, "Other" corresponds to fics with titles from other artists, "Non-Album" refers to titles from Taylor Swift songs that aren't on an album or are unreleased, and "None" refers to titles that weren't from any lyrics. Orville Peck and Maisie Peter were the big contributors to the "other" category this year. The second graph shows the percent of the number of fics, while the first graph is the combined word count. Also, I did have 1 fic with an If This Was a Movie title, and I categorized it under "Speak Now TV" instead of Fearless TV. Yell at me about it in the comments if you really care, since it's technically incorrect.

Last year, I had a big Fearless slice because of the Hey Stephen series, and it was kind of surprising to me to see how much I slowed down in doing those, with Fearless only having 4 fics to its name. The disparity between the number and word count of the evermore was a little odd to me, until I realized that my longest fic ever (Tuesday Night at Olive Garden, a destiel murder mystery) was named after an evermore song. One thing that did not surprise me was folklore only having 1 fic, because that is my least favorite album.

So...the destiel thing...

The SPN hyperfixation took hold of me in Feb/March of this year and has not let go yet. Looking at my all-time graphs (where its about 33%/40% destiel/solangelo for word count), I didn't think it was that bad, but plugging in the numbers for just this year...uh, yeah. It's that bad. Sorry.

I had a really strong streak of posting solangelo every month until March hit. Again, destiel hyperfixation in visual form. This year, I wrote lokius (L/MMM, from the show Loki) and sterek (DH/SS, from the show Teen Wolf) for the first time. I also posted destiel (C/DW) for the first time (the bad destiel fics of middle school alfie are staying in locked docs where they belong).

As expected, I had a bit of a drop-off in the summer months, but it was surprising for me to see that it never went back up after school started again. Last year, I had a huge spike in September, October, and December, but this year stayed relatively mellow. Next year, I'd really like to see which trend I follow monthly.

Anyway, that's the end of the graphs I have prepared for you (I will spare yall from the more complicated ones). Next year, I'd really like to start finishing up some of the unresolved fics and series I have (mostly solangelo ones that got drowned in the destiel flood). I'm doing my first ever big bang (for the Professor Layton fandom), so katriana (KL/EP) will make it onto my graphs for next year, as will destiel and solangelo.

hi jenna gif questions for u 💜 what's your favorite part of making gifs? what's the most valuable thing/tip/trick you've learned? what's some of your favorite gif sets you've made?

hi ida!!!! sorry i took a couple days to answer this i wanted to wait until i had some time to think about it before i answer! i loooove these questions tho so thank you so much for sending them 💜💜

my favorite part about making gifs is probably coloring and like...that moment when i get the gif to look exactly how i want it to. i like to play around with coloring and try a lot of different things with it and that can be so fun! i think over the last like 6-8 months my coloring has really improved a lot and i've been having a lot of fun learning new ways to do things! but i actually had a really hard time coming up with an answer for this question because i mostly enjoy the entire process! the only part that i don't really enjoy is picking out the frames for each gif. i always start with way too many and then i have to cut stuff out and i hate that part. also it's reaaally hard sometimes to not end up with like 20 gifs cause there's so much i want to include!!!

okay im gonna cheat on this one and give a few things i've learned since i started that have been sooooo valuable to me. first is the importance of having a good quality download to start with. i think my gifs got significantly better when i finally downloaded all of the episodes in 1080p instead of using the screen recording on netflix like i had been before. second sharpening is so important! i did not do any sharpening on my first gifs i made! sharpening makes the gifs loook sooo sharp and crisp and pretty. third and kind of similar to sharpening was learning/figuring out how to use the camera raw filter. there's sooooo much you can do with camera raw filter (coloring sharpening lightening). and finally one thing i learned that i think made my coloring look significantly better was to try not to lighten the gif too much and/or to figure out ways to lighten darker gifs without it messing up the background too much (sometimes when they're lightened too much it will like pixelate the background and it looks awful)

and finally (in order of when they were made from oldest to newest) here are links to some of my favorite gifsets:

Bloody Dean Throughout the Seasons Set - this one actually came out really good considering the fact that it was made only a month after i first started making gifs! if i remember correctly it's the first set that i ever used sharpening on.

6x20 F+TM King Set - this one is a favorite mostly just because i love the song so much and tmwwbk is one of my favorite episodes. i think some of my favorite sets to make are the ones that i add lyrics to.

2022 Nov 5th Set - i was really happy with how this one came out! it's so hard to get gifs from episodes over different seasons to look the same! and this one had gifs from 12 different seasons! also i think this was the first set i ever made that got over 1000 notes which i remember being really excited about!

Laughing Dean Set - this one is a favorite purely based on the content of the set. it feels like injecting serotonin every time i look at it<3

1x12 Faith Set - another one based on the content of the set. i just love this episode so much.

Season 9 Dean Set - i LOVE the coloring in this set! and season 9 dean is so beloved to me. he is just so beautiful and bloody and sad.

2023 Cas Day Set - another f+tm lyric set! i love the space overlay that i added and the blue-pink of the coloring so much!

4x18 Destiel Every Episode Set - i loooove this scene so much! this gif series has by far been more popular than any of the other gifs that i post and this set is definitely the most popular in the series. no other set has ever even come close to getting 4k notes like this one did. also i really like the purple coloring a lot<3

Literally fic of all time, yeah it's an AU but like. hear me out. it's phenomenal, it's an exceptional mystery, it's not even rly a slowburn imo they've just Been Thru It, jay is a wizard, the characterization is like. best i've seen tbh i'm Entranced and i think about it a Lot even when i fall behind

Hey Bex!! sooo...for #disneynatural (GREAT idea btw, so excited about it and hope I'll have time to do smth for it) could I also take a disney song but change some of the lyrics to make it fit better with the destiel situation? As long as you can still tell what song it is...I kinda already did part of it so you better say that's fine xD I kept as much as I thought worked with the scene and when I changed it I tried to keep the syllable count the same (and rhyme scheme if possible) so it would still work with the melody....just wasn't sure if "using disney songs" meant just as they are or if some tweaking is allowed haha

The first time I can remember wanting two characters to be together is probably when I was a teeny tiny Izupie watching Sailor Moon while I was in primary school, maybe year 3/4 I think? (UK school system - I have no idea what the equivalent would be in the US) (I could google it) (but I don't wanna)

I was obsessed with Sailor Moon every morning on tv. I watched the dub though - back when I had no idea these things were even dubbed over at all. I loooooved Serena and Darien - I'm sorry I know their dub names can give people hives, but I have so many fond memories of them I'll love them even if nobody else does asdfghjk

the whole he's really secretly tuxedo mask thing broke my tiny little mind and I was like gaaasssppp ! and I wanted them to be together even more - their initial I like you/you annoy me dynamic probably informed a lot of my ship preferences going forward

Every time there was an episode focusing on their relationship I would get so invested. they were my first real 'ship' for sure

Last movie: I can't believe this is legit going to be Tinkerbell and the Secret of the Wings lmaoooo - it's a comfort film and I needed some cheering up after a long hard day at work last week, so I booted up disney plus and on it went. Literally the lowest stakes you can imagine, just lots of pretty visuals, sparkly wings, fairies, upbeat pop songs and a happy ending. ultimate comfort film.

3 Ships: all time favourites or most written/read? not sure but these are probably my top 3.

Dean/Castiel aka Destiel - this has to be on here right? it's probably the ship I have read the most fanfic of, thougth I have never really written them myself. maybe because I thought I couldn't do them justice when I was first watching the show and I was still very insecure about my writing. I have started an AU of them now, so maybe I'll publish it some day.

Jimm Prideaux/Bill Hayden aka haydeaux - I don't know, man, these guys just break my heart. most tragic love story ever in my opinion and it's even canon (even though not very obwiously in the movie). this ship has me shipping Mark Strong and Colin Firth in every project they do together so merlahad should be here as well. reading merlahad fanfic is like a cure for my broken heart for these two <3

Spock/McCoy aka spones - I just love them so much! the way their minds work together, how they are the perfect counterpart to each other while still being very similiar, the perfect balance, the absolutely screwed up personalities. they fight like enemies and act like friends and I just love them endlessely <3 writing them is so much fun! and I just want them to be happy, damnit!

First Ever Ship: Spock/McCoy probably. my first fanfiction I ever wrote at the age of around 11 was Spock/Christine but the main focus of it was on Spock's and McCoy's friendship, so my real interest lay with them.

Last Song: no idea, honestly. I do listen to music occasionally but only the same songs over and over. probably the 1982 'the thing' soundtrack cause I want to make a video where it's in the background.
