Happy Birthday Sorrel - TWST Ficlet

A/N: It's Sorrel's birthday!! I wanted to do something for the special baby boy's birthday, even if it's small. This is also a friendly reminder that all the NRC students definitely belong there LMAO.

Word Count: 718

Flickering green candle light illuminated the foyer. And as the freshman stepped out into the top of the stairs, his gaze swept across the room. With sweets lining all of the table space and the banner hanging from the stone banister, the space permeated with birthday cheer. And with the atmosphere as it were, Kingsley quickly reaffirmed to himself that he would leave as soon as his mission had ended.  Many fae and a few humans were spattered around the room. His eyes landed on his intended target, the Diasomnia junior standing between two Heartslabyul students. A small glass sat between his small, shaking hands, clutched to his chest as he slouched forward. The trio seemed to be enjoying the moment, though debatable from the perspective of the Diasomnia Junior - Sorrel Madrigal, the birthday boy. 

As Kingsley began to descend towards the party, his boots thunking rhythmically and militantly against the stone planks, several sets of eyes followed his every step. Widening with fear, he noted how their pupils dilated as they recognized his presence. Yet, just as he’d done before, he processed their stares as encouragement - their fear recognized as a sign that he’d held himself just as he intended. Practically commanding the room as he walked, the clamor dwindled into a faded silence. And when he reached the bottom of the stairs, his eyes locked with the deep brown eyes of the birthday boy. He noted the sweat slipping down Sorrel’s cheek, and the tension in his shoulders. But just as he had begun to suspect that the junior feared him just as anyone else, the junior smiled.

“Oh, hey, Kingsley! I’m really glad you came,” Sorrel greeted him with a warmness the freshman hadn’t expected. 

The freshman nodded to him in greeting before responding verbally with, “Happy birthday, Madrigal,” as he held out a carefully wrapped box toward the junior. Though meticulously and cleanly wrapped, the decorations were plain and arguably barren. But nevertheless, the present had been prepared, and Sorrel’s name had been cleanly etched into the tag with blue ink. 

All three juniors stared at the box, shocked by its literal presence. Sorrel’s eyes repeatedly flicked up towards Kingsley’s gaze and then back down again at the box.

“Well, are you going to take it?” the freshman asked, low key tired and irritated with continuing to hold the box out in front of him.

“Ah- I mean, is that–”

“A present for you, yes.”

“...oh, thanks. You didn’t have to,” the junior replied sheepishly.

“Consider it a show of my appreciation. You act more like a housewarden than our actual housewarden, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed,” the freshman stated bluntly. And as the words left his mouth, the room became completely consumed by silence. Many sets of eyes stared, and he could feel them burning into his skull. The diamond card soldier’s jaw dropped, agape from the words that left Kingsley’s mouth. Simultaneously, the Heartslabyul vice-housewarden’s eyes widened. In fact, his glasses even slipped a bit, now sitting crooked on his face. 

The smallest of twitches pulled the corner of his mouth upward. The faintest hints of a satisfied smirk lingered on his face. He’d gotten exactly what he wanted out of this. And hopefully, this interaction would continue to evolve as planned.

After a moment’s pause, Sorrel reciprocated the smile. His own faint, and also equally full of unspoken satisfaction. The junior let out a nervous laugh, seemingly processing everything that was unfolding before him. With shaky hands, the junior reached out and handed his glass to the Heartslabyul vice-housewarden. He took the box from Kingsley’s hands, and tucked it under one of his arms. All the while in the brief silence, he reclaimed his drink from the vice-housewarden’s grasp. 

“Thanks,” the junior continued to smirk, “I’m just trying to do your best.”

“And that’s better than the efforts of some others in this dorm. Take it as you will. And again, happy birthday.”

Without another word, the freshman clasped his hands firmly behind his back. Having completed exactly what he had set out to do - and to a greatly satisfying success, he marched straight back up the stone stairwell, leaving the party and everyone in it behind him. The solitude of the castle hallways greeted him with their familiar, calming stature.

yeah im not gonna lie this was just me being self-indulgent and as of late the main thing i’ve been thinking about is the fact that gia is…a hopeless simp for their boyfriend. ace trappola really does have them wrapped around his finger, the thing is they can’t let him know just how down bad they are for him because he’ll use the knowledge for evil.

(also i find the idea of cater having looked at these two buffoons since their freshman year and just was like: i just wanna see how long this takes— kinda funny.)

i’ve had the concept of sorrel and cater working on a song for music club reasons in my head for a while (despite sorrel being in the film research club) and @twstinginthewind’s nrc music fest event popped up and i was like OH PERFECT!!! (explanatory ramble below)

regardless of the circumstances around just how they get into this project together, this whole thing is what gets them to get to know each other far better than anything else has since the time they’ve known one another. this is also a good example as to why they are unable to become romantically involved until adulthood.

cater is aware sorrel is at the very least attracted to him and while i wouldn’t say that he’s USING sorrel, he sure is taking advantage of whatever sorrel has for him to get sorrel to work on the project with him. this works out even better when sorrel shows legitimate aptitude for the song writing process (though much like with sorrel’s other work, he’s got a sharp perfectionist streak). though it’s nothing explosive, cater and sorrel do begin to clash in terms to how they approach the song and things get even more dicey for cater when VIL begins to question sorrel’s reasons for working with cater to begin with. she’s rather open about her views on cater being a flakey, uninspired and shallow phony and thinks little of sorrel “wasting” his talents on cater as she doesn’t think he’d truly appreciate any of it.

cater just wants something that looks and sounds cool for the ‘cam and vil doesn’t doubt they’ll be able to do that. but that’s just the issue, it’ll be just that.

her time working alongside sorrel as a creative on the film research club has shown her sorrel doesn’t work on anything for simple appearances. besides his genuine love and passion for his work, everything he works on has a message he truly believes in— be it a negative or positive one— it’s genuine. but when has cater ever done anything genuinely?

sorrel voices a quiet, but steady faith in cater being capable of creating something amazing— something that cater is secretly unsure how to feel about beyond feeling uncomfortable under the expectation. but cater also doesn’t miss the way sorrel begins to shift in the way he acts towards him as they continue working on this together.

sorrel himself is unsure what he actually feels for cater (in comparison to how he feels about trey at this point. that is, sorrel is fully aware he’s head-over-heels for the dude), but he does care about cater and he loves him as a friend, no question.

that said, it’s during the time that they’re working on this project together that sorrel realizes cater is…kind of really a mess. and though sorrel wants to continue to be cater’s friend and help when he’s able to— he gets the solid reality check that for his own mental health, he can’t be involved anymore beyond that with cater. he doesn’t push cater away exactly, more that sorrel minds how much of himself he’s willing to give away to him. (which is big for sorrel, who will give his entirety to someone he cares about, but that’s growth for you i suppose).

and i feel like this is definitely the start of an undercurrent of tension for the years to come, especially as cater’s coping mechanisms get more and more unhealthy.

Groovification: Most people think I look the part, but honestly, metal isn’t really my thing. Still…I’m really happy I came along.

Set Home: I think I see the others!

Home Transition 1: Cater begged me to come along and I just couldn’t say no. I guess he knew the group he was coming with weren’t the type to wanna sit back and enjoy the show from a distance, haha.

Home Transition 2: My hometown will have entire dance parties where everyone’s invited, but even if I brought everyone from the last several generations, it’d be a blip compared to this place!

Home Transition 3: Waiting in line, Gia bumped their head against my shoulder a few times. I…think they were being affectionate.

Home, after Login: Don’t think about stadium collapses…don’t think about stadium collapses…Well, now I’m just thinking about crowd crushes— Let’s go get some pretzels…!!

Tap Home 1: Y’know after everything we’ve all been through, going on a joyride on a tour bus suddenly doesn’t seem like such a big deal. Sorta. Kinda….I think I’d die if we’re caught.

Tap Home 2: Maybe I’m just seeing things, but Sebek and Kingsley seem to be getting along. They’re not trying to kill each other, so I’ll take that as a win.

Tap Home 3: I’m happy I got to catch up with Lilia. He’s an…interesting guy, but he was still one of my good friends in NRC.

Tap Home 4: I wish Trey could’ve been here, but he had a big catering gig already queued up. …He did look relieved to be able to bring that up as an excuse, though.

Tap Home 5: Something in my…? Oh! Just my tongue piercing. I got a whole lot more pierced up since you last saw me, ah?

sorrel!!! so same note as i put in gia’s card: wishmaster does take place 2 years after the canon events of twst for me, which makes sorrel nrc alumni at this point. he’s here to catch up with his buddies and keep cater company while they watch the others throw down in the mosh pit. he’s got more tattoos (you can kinda see that he got his neck blacked out) besides his piercings. as for what he’s more into, sorrel is into post-punk/dark wave/spanish 80’s rock.

1. How sheltered was your OC from the idea of LGBTQ+ relationships when they were younger? How has it impacted their relationship with themselves?

yes.

sorrel hails from the very small, very SECLUDED town of Pueblo Maravilla and it absolutely played a part of sorrel growing up with an extremely negative view of himself. it’s an already alienating experience when your “gift” scares the living daylights out of people and then on top of that you are— to your knowledge— the only boy who gets Those Types of Feelings on other boys.

sorrel just thought he was broken from the get-go.

sorrel’s first boyfriend is trey clover! he’s so fucking happy about it!! he’s so fucking head-over-heels for trey, santo siete, help him!!! they do eventually get married, so i say it’s going really well!

mentioned above, sorrel does get married! i was thinking he wears an all white standard suit, but it has a lot of his hometown’s traditional embroidery and he matches with trey.

cater…is in a fun little spot in that at this point he’s both sorrel and trey’s boyfriend (it’s the easiest way to explain what’s going on there, trust me) and he’s most definitely in the wedding, but as a special guest. so he’s wearing something that is not white, however he is most definitely stylin’ in cater diamond fashion.

1. How sheltered was your OC from the idea of LGBTQ+ relationships when they were younger? How has it impacted their relationship with themselves?

they grew up in an extremely religiously homophobic household in their old world so they didn’t have a lot of knowledge that wasn’t riddled in negative bias.

that said though, while gia did grow up ignorant of queerness and queer spaces— gia themself didn’t really take up any of those ideals. they were very much in the ‘i don’t understand why people can’t just do what they want’ field for better or worse. and in that realm, it’s this mix of lack of real knowledge and total indifference that made it so that gia just didn’t realize they were queer as hell until they arrived in twisted wonderland.

had they stayed in their old world, i kinda wonder if their gender would’ve just stayed unquestioned. gia never struggled with gender dysphoria or felt like something was off— especially since they are solely attracted to men and as far as they knew they never had a reason to question being female. hypothetically had gia lived on in their old world, i feel like they really would’ve lived their life as cis-het— that is…extremely hinging on the fact that gia would’ve made it past 16.

but like otherwise, yeah, the only reason why gia is openly queer is because they came to night raven college, everyone started he/him’ing them and they went: ‘hm, i kinda like no one can tell.’ and then went on to have a fucking polycule.

*which like…actually— they struggled with their poly aspect slightly more than anything else and deadass, deadass it’s because of floyd who just looks at them and goes: so when are you asking crabby out, it’s gettin’ boring watching you two dance around each other—

gia: …you’re cool with that…? floyd: i seriously don’t care. gia: word. gia: …what if ace thinks it's weird…? floyd: ehe~! …that’s a you problem. gia: word.

bobbi st. robins

i headcanon the sunset savana is like…pretty lax about homosexuality and polyamory— very evident in like the hyena beastman circles which is…where bobbi grew up for the most part.

so when bobbi was just like, ’yeah imma marry that scrawny, sticky-handed hyena runt over there (hi ruggie) because he’s my bestest pal in the whole wide world and i think he’s very pretty’— everyone looked at him and went: ’hey, good for you man.’ and then when he appeared with his OTHER partner under his arm,m and was like ‘hey i’m also marrying this absolute ray of sunlight and other love of my life isn’t he the bee’s knees?’ everyone went: ‘eyyy mozel tov!’

so yeah bobbi is probably one of my most, if not the most, confident and secure in himself in terms to his queerness, so he doesn’t really think about it all that much.

6. Does your OC celebrate pride? Would they ever buy merch?

sorrel

once he’s out, yeah! not sure when his first time would be, but it was definitely with friends and his (then) only boyfriend. i can see him buying merch and being really emo about it, like a small mlm flag keychain he puts in with the rest of his good luck charms. afterwords, sorrel will go when he has the chance.

gia

mm…if they were invited to go along to a pride parade or something, yeah and they'd enjoy it. i don’t see them being the kind to buy merch (unless it’s joke merch and chances are they didn’t buy it, floyd did. so they wouldn’t wear it outside this specific pride event. like specifically a shirt that reads: polySLAMorous), they’re already pretty (shrug) about where they stand and they don’t feel the need to signal that.

i feel like bobbi has loved going to the pride parade in sunrise city for years and jumps at the chance at being IN it when he grows older— likely in drag as Miss Bandi Sherwood. but yes he has a lot of merch, pansexual and poly flag colors galore, he goes all out with it.

8. What's a stereotype about your OC's orientation that they hate? What's one they (accidentally) live up to?

the gay = evil stereotype/trope in media drives him fucking nuts— especially since he grew up feeling like an harbinger of evil with his internalized homophobia telling him being gay was part of it? and don’t get him wrong, he’s here for nuanced characters and sometimes queer people (like all people) can be kinda shit. but there’s a difference between exploring the multi-facetedness of humanity and being lazy and homophobic in your writing.

mmm— i guess accidentally the gay = feminine stereotype…? especially since he’s got long hair and wears makeup and growing up ‘sensitive’— all things that are, haha, not seen very positively in men in his culture, which is already swimming in machismo, he’s always been teased for being too ‘girly’. like he’s just into alternative fashion and HAPPENS to be gay, leave him alone

…how the fuck do i even answer this with gia. they don’t give a fuck and they don’t think about this kinda stuff.

bobbi

polyamory being seen as a lack of commitment. that it’s seen as “ethical cheating.” yeah, that pisses him off so bad, you don’t get to tell bobbi to his face that he doesn’t put everything he has into his relationships with his husbands, that he doesn’t love them with every fiber of his being.

and with bobbi it’s a thing of like yeah he has his two partners, and his partners know he has other dynamics outside of them that he will mess around with, but it’s all about that open communication between them. it’s because he’s an incredibly dedicated partner that he makes sure he’s tending to his relationships to the best of his ability. he's nothing BUT dedicated.

sorrel's fashion didn't change when he came out, his fashion changed when he left Pueblo Maravilla and he discovered alt. fashion and he just never turned back.

of my oc's gia's fashion sense absolutely changes when they fully come into themself and realize they can do whatever the fuck they want. not to say they have a particular style, they really don't, but it's the freedom of being able to swing wildly from full femme to full masc to any mix-match in between that actually has them…interested in dressing up. they wanna look good.

in their old world, gia was living under very strict gender and social expectations that didn't exactly make them hate themself, but it came with an extreme indifference to themself and how they looked-- to the point of neglect.

bobbi

bobbi's been a gay little boy since he could form thought, nothing's changed. he's always tried to look as well-groomed as he possibly can at any given moment, but that's just bobbi. he was supposed to be in pomefiore. he likes to dress up and he always has, but he's also just fine walking around in a muscle tee, khaki shorts and sandals.

you can’t tell if gia is hungry unless they say so or you’re literally watching them eat. and even then, it’s a toss up on whether they were actually hungry or if they’re just bored and peckish.

sorrel carries around a stash of cheese that actually meant for jorge and hernando, his rat familiars, but if he starts nibbling on it for himself— it’s a pretty clear sign that it’s time to eat.

a quick, subtle quirk of their right eyebrow means something's caught their attention. they will scratch their behind their ear when lost in thought (in a bad way), and they will do it for so long they don't notice they draw blood. they hover their hand over their mouth when laughing. rocks side-to-side when eating something they really like.

sorrel madrigal

has a habit of muttering and mumbling, or talking really fast, when nervous. the hoodie of his poncho goes up when he's scared. bites his nails or picks at his nail polish. tends to say things in a way that come off wrong-- that can mean a lot of things.

helena jupiter

she clasps her hands together in front of her when walking because she's afraid of accidently hitting someone. she tries very hard to avoid using the 'tuh' sound in her speech, since it's triggers her stuttering. when she blushes, she BLUSHES, and her hands go to her cheeks. she claps and bounces on her feet when really giddy about something.

bobbi st. robins

hums to himself when he's having a romantic daydream. there's a very obvious bounce to his step and he whistles a tune when proud of himself. because his lips are naturally curved to make him look like he's always somewhat smiling, he will playfully purse his lips when 'annoyed.' he's VERY touchy with people he's friends with (and are okay with it), will sling an arm over shoulders, noogies, link arms, hugs, is even given to platonic kisses on the cheek and hair.

he gets SO red when he's angry, it's like another riddle. claps people in the back as a friendly gesture, except he can do it a little too hard….sometimes it's just on purpose. he will quickly and briefly drum his hands on a surface when he hears something that sounds exciting to do or has a good idea. doesn't like it when someone touches his hat, but if he puts it on someone it means he's gotten fond of them.

🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?

i've mentioned this a couple times, but gia is a not-so-secret metalhead! they do however listen to a very broad, broad range of genres and is always down for listening to something new and any language. one of their favorite (and honestly prized) items is the magic gramophone they find in ramshackle dorm, as they use it to play songs from their world-- given all it needs to play is a memory of a song.

yes, they will be playing tyler, the creator, kdot, cardi b and mf doom full blast in ramshackle. yes, they will be playing shakira, maná, and elefante immediately after, followed by deadman, malice mizer, buck-tick, michael jackson, arctic monkeys, the gorillaz, and fucking dethklok-- WHAT of it…?

anyway yea, safe to say gia loves music and they love to listen to it whenever they get the chance-- ESPECIALLY live.

sorrel is into alt. indie, post-punk (like obskuros or jfarrari), (twst-equivalent) spanish rock (think enanitos verdes and la union)..that general vibe. but he can get into mainstream pop just fine. honestly, i've imagined that sometime in his adult years he dabbles a little in music-- creating a concept album very reminiscent in style to djo's 'decide' album.

sorrel will listen to music when he's musing since it helps get him in the mood, but he doesn't always need to have something playing to function.

helena jupiter

(twst-equivalent) of a k-pop fan here (she'd be BTS army, deadass), but she's into general pop music. she is, however, a very big fan of PREMO, something she shares with her cousin idia-- although they're both unaware of each other as fans. i can also see her being into something fun along the lines of deadlift lolita as just like…a random tidbit. like she's not really a metalhead, but you can't tell me deadlift lolita isn't great workout music.

helena likes to listen to music on her downtime, though it's mostly seen when she's going on a jog or lifting weights.

bobbi st. robins

bobbi will listen to just about anything that's put on for him without a fuss, he likes music in an ultra casual manner. but he does pop his head up a lot when i listen to miles kane-- he specifically likes kane's albums 'change the show' and 'coup de grace.' y'know, he'd also be into kane's band with the arctic monkey's lead singer alex turner-- the last shadow puppets. he'd also be into harry styles…

gia's somewhere in the middle, leaning towards heavy. however their sleeping habits are ABYSMAL and it's something of a well-known fact. gia will pull all-nighters, sleeps maybe 4-5 hours on a typical night because they're too busy working on SOMETHING. it's always…something. then you got the Visions.

sorrel madrigal

sorrel's a light sleeper and his sleep schedule is not the greatest either, but it's not on purpose and more that sorrel does deal with vivid nightmares. he should probably get that checked. but he does try to sleep a healthy amount if he can help it.

helena jupiter

she's pretty responsible with her sleep schedule, 8-9 hours and she sleeps solidly through the night. it's part of her training and making sure she's in tip-top shape. nothing remarkable here honestly. good job, helena.

bobbi st. robins

light sleeper, but he can fall asleep or fall back pretty easily and just about anywhere. he sleeps just fine, he's also a bit of a napper. he has no problem with his sleep.

DEEP sleeper. this guy can sleep through a stampede the whole night. no sleep issues here, it's more trying to wake him up in the middle of it. real grumpy if you DO manage to wake him up. but despite that, he wakes up just fine in the morning and is rather fresh-faced.

gia does swim and they LOVE getting in the water when given a chance-- they especially love the beach. they end up reverse-engineering (with some…adjustments) their own breathing potion just to be able to swim in the deep sea (they've had an interest in the ocean for a while now.)

not the greatest swimmer since he just started learning when he attended nrc. he doesn't really go out of his way to do so.

EXCELLENT swimmer. i wouldn't say she LOVES to swim, but she's damn good at it and if invited somewhere to swim, she'd definitely have a good time.

can swim and loves a good dive! actually i think he had a stint as a lifeguard at a public pool as a summer job in the savannah, but he loves a good river.

oh boy-- so when they first appeared in twisted wonderland, they had a metal slingshot on their person. they have a stellar shot and they've used this run-of-the-mill slingshot in books 1-3 (as well as boxcutter they carry around.) with their eventual research of their flora magestone, though, they find it the easiest to model the foundation on their slingshot.

they can use a knife. they'll use…just about anything as a weapon if push comes to shove, really. this bitch will break a bottle and use it to cut a bitch.

knows cpr. also because they hate going to the nurse's office and would rather patch themself up, gia ends up quickly taking up to first aid. adding their grasp on potionology (they very quickly cement their place as one of the best potionology students in freshman year), gia carries around varying healing potions they made themself just for that purpose. how do they know they work? they've tested them on themself, duh.

this bitch is the kind of person who can reset somone's shoulder without batting an eye. can and will take care of someone who is sick pretty fucking well actually- like maybe their bedside manner is lacking, but gia does know what they're doing (or at least has a solid chance of figuring it out as they go along)

okay, confession. gia did secretly smoke back in their homeworld mostly just to be a Bad Kid™ and sometimes when things get really bad in nrc, they wish they could have a smoke. (i feel there's definitely a moment where it's so bad they actually get their hands on a pack, START to smoke, but every time they do it, it makes them feel even worse due to unpleasant memories. they can't stomach finishing it and throw it away.)

they've tried alcohol for the same reason, but they don't like the taste, so they don't-- not even as an adult. they'd much rather have a mocktail.

sorrel madrigal

doesn't smoke because he doesn't like the smell.

he's been given a few sips of wine here and there as a kid during special celebrations. it's because of this openness that sorrel learns moderation very quickly and he does drink socially as an adult, but doesn't go overboard.

will drink on special occasions as an adult, but she's actually a bit of a lightweight so she tries to keep it at a minimum because she gets so goofy and giggly and all her hard-earned coordination goes flying out the window.

as an adult he likes to indulge in drink for some fun, yeah! can get pretty sloshed, but the hangover makes him remember why he doesn't do it often. i can see him having a liking to mead…like homemade fruit and/or honey mead.

cigars are such a Man's Man thing where he's from and he'd see his dad smoke cigars, that he thought he definitely wanna try it out for himself at some point, but when the day came-- he made a face and went off to brush his teeth.

does drink, i can see him with an alcohol cabinet when he's older and is pretty well-versed in all the nuances and tastings of alcohol. he'd been into going to winery vineyards and all that. and then sometimes he just sits in his back porch sippin' moonshine with his cousins.

2. Does/has your OC struggle(d) with internalized homophobia? How have they learned to cope, if at all?

sorrel spent YEARS believing there was something deeply wrong with him. it wasn’t that he couldn’t accept his feelings, he was fully aware he had them and knew what they were (i mean, it makes sense, right? a freak like him couldn’t even be normal in the most BASIC of life’s rules. boy meets girl. boy marries girl. boy and girl have children and live happily married after.), but it was more that he was resigned to the idea of keeping it locked up tight. maybe if he ignored it, everyone else would too.

this changes drastically when he attends NRC, since it’s quite literally the first time in his life where he meets new people. he meets OTHER queer people for the first time ever. and it’s not an immediate shift in his self-perception or the feeling of otherness, but it certainly is The Big Step he has towards realizing that he’s not a disgusting little failure of a human being.

by the time he’s an adult, he’s so comfortable with himself— he’s happy, he’s thriving. at that point, he’s been with trey for a good while and even when the prospect of polyamory is seriously brought to the table, he’s not shaken by it or feels like he has to overcome yet another internal blight. (no, the problem there is that sorrel and trey’s potential third is being…a bit of a mess. hi cater.)

3. When did your OC realize that they may be different form other people?

yikes. pretty young.

it’s probably something like sorrel makes an innocent comment that was read romantically about another boy and he got a lot of giggles and ‘ew’s.’ which he laughed along with, but was internally like ‘i didn’t say anything funny…’

and then he just…never saw anyone talk about two boys the same way they would about a girl and a boy, so it was pretty quickly apparent to him he was on a different page— ESPECIALLY when it was evident that as part of the madrigal household, he was especially expected to find a wife and have even more little madrigals and he…really…couldn’t stomach that idea no matter how hard he tried growing up.

12. How would your OC deal with a homophobe? Would this reaction be different if the person was targeting someone else?

as he is now? sorrel would just very nervously try to disengage conversation and get the hell away. he's never been the kind to confront someone, he's too anxious for that- if it became physical and he had no other choice BUT to defend himself, then it's just enough to get away. as an adult, he's still very much not the type not to get into any sort of argument with someone (especially if it's a lost cause), but he's isn't anywhere near as scared. so he'd disengage, but it's firmly.

as for another person, if he thinks they're in legit danger, he's stepping in to try to pull them away whether that be verbally or physically depending on what the urgency is, but his first priority is always defense and making sure the person targeted is okay.

17. Would your OC ever participate in drag? What would their stage name/personality be?

sorrel did actually think hard on this-- i feel like he'd actually struggle with doing drag...? it'd be a thing of wanting to, even coming up with a name and everything (Mari Posa), but when the time came and he's seeing himself in the mirror something about it feels...off.

he'll definitely go through with it-- he's an actor and he does love a good show, but deadass he feels dysphoric in the getup. so it's a one time thing and he has a hard time explaining why.

i'll take that as a compliment. jett is apologizing for the door. he's initially appears very reserved and really intimidating and looks like he eats live chickens for breakfast-- but that's only because you met him while at work. he's actually quite amiable and carries a gentlemanly charm, surprisingly playful. also talk to him about spelldrive and watch his face light up.

slim is from the get-go very friendly and very eager, this boy will treat you right but then you get into the subject of daddy issues and having to unlearn machismo-- not to mention that throwing money at the issue isnt going to solve your problems (not always anyway).

of my own oc's i will say bobbi would be the route i'd be taken to the most. what can i say i love a flirt. his route delves into loneliness and the masks you wear to ward it off.
