SORANA

She was calm as she always was in situations like this. First thing she'd do would be to start everyone else's job on you. She'd call for Death or a physician for help. Listening carefully to advices and recommended trials. After doing so, she'd start her descent in spoiling you.

Blankets were given as you have a high fever and no not just any blankets expensive and thick ones at that. Then, she'd give you whatever food you wish for as long as it's healthy to her perspective of healthy diets.

Afterwards, she cuddles with you. Girlie doesn't care if she gets sick too. If you wanted to cuddle, a cuddle you will receive.

When you toss and turn too much in your sleep, you slightly irritate her causing her to pin you down by sleeping on your chest. Just to keep you still. It works until morning but when you wake up to the sight the first thing the maids here is an embarrassed shriek.

"Are you sure you don't want anything else? I can get you more pillows, just tell me."

LEGIS

Panic. He'd panic first and foremost. Pacing back and forth as he tried to calm his head down. Endless negative thoughts come to his mind as he tries to figure out what to do.

After the whole thing, he manages his composure once again. He'd probably just whip up the song of healing since he's a siren and it'd be all good. Not lazy work, he just doesn't trust the fact that there's only a fifty percent chance a physician can help so decides to choose the one hundred percent one which is magic itself. This is basically him spoiling you 😭

"There you go, nice and fixed. What? That wasn't lazy work!"

LUCIFER

Like Sorana, he'd be calm unless you give him a reason not to be. He'd call for a maid to bring tea and soup to be prepared for you before he starts making sure you're okay.

He studied healing for a reason, so he checks you up himself. The ignorance towards the job of the physician is pretty much big because Lucifer doesn't need a physician. You remember vaguely trying to make him hire one in case but he was offended that you thought his skills weren't good enough.

"Are you saying a physician is better than me, doll?"

DEATH

Death is a healer of the castle for a reason. He'd be the one to do all the dirty work in checking you up, even bathing you even though you pointed out that it was weird. He just found that you were weak when sick so he didn't want you straining yourself.

As for spoiling? Death doesn't spoil. He thinks it's a waste of resources and says that what you crave for at times like this were not healthy for you when you were already sick. A complete killjoy.

A high window. A long ascent. A few taps of three. A swift movement. An easing figure. A soft landing.

He enters the room, eyes searching it to find the princess who called for him much to his irritation. Sorana sat by the side of the piano that stood there for her convenience, purple eyes staring at him.

"What did you call me here for?" Lucifer was irritated and he didn't bother hiding it. Sorana knew well enough to know that he hated her to a certainty.

"I have a proposition." Sorana said calmly, dismissing his disrespectful behaviour.

Lucifer stops by the lounge that stood by the piano. He sits there, waiting. "What is it?" He was annoyed that she was taking long, but he was also extremely intrigued. She seemed to think this was important for him.

"You want your father's respect, do you not?" Sorana asks, her eyes fixated only on him while her fingers played a soft melody. The room filled with the wonderful melody of sweetness that came from the princess' skilled fingers.

"Yes." He answers, adding hesitantly. "Why do you bring this up?" He hated this game, this game of wordplay. There was no need for it if she only got straight to the point. Unless there was a reason why she didn't.

"Well, the proposition relates directly to your wants." She said, standing up and leaving the piano. The room now dark and undeniably silent. Only the footfalls of the princess were heard while she came to his side. "The proposition is simple. You want your father's respect, your family's honour, your public image being made a villain in a way, not to mention the fact that you also want Arianne's love back at you." She counted those wants with her fingers, ticking them off one-by-one. How she knew that was a mystery to Lucifer and he was stunned at the mere sentence. She knew. She knew his wants like she had been there in his mind.

"So... what's your proposition?" Lucifer asks, suddenly interested. Sorana smiles at his sudden shown interest in her proposition, her figure leaning close so she wouldn't be heard by anyone from outside trying to hear in. "What better way to get all that by having a relationship with the princess everyone so dearly sees as a villainess?" He froze, his blue eyes stared at her as if she was mad. Taking a deep breath he nods. He knew the potential, everyone saw Sorana a villainess because of Arianne. The plan could work very well, Arianne would take the opportunity to take her from the princess and the nobles, plus commoners, were completely intrigued to be on Arianne's side alone. But it didn't answer his main goal.

"That doesn't answer-" "I know." Sorana interrupted him as if she knew what he was about to say. "I will help you get your father's respect and blessing."

"I see." He stopped short. He didn't know how to respond to this. Not when the princess seemed to know everything he'll ask or say. Suddenly an idea perked up, one that he didn't know why he asked but he did. "But how does this benefit you?"

Sorana was shocked at the sudden question. He could understand, he would never ask that question. Never. Whatever possessed him to say it, it was stunning both him and the person it was meant for.

"It doesn't." She replied at long last. "I don't plan on benefiting. At any means, I just hope you'll continue to be a loyal ally." Guilt panged in him when she said those words. A loyal ally... A loyal ally who spoke to the Damaris about her doings and all the things he's seen. Could he really be called that?

He paused. When did he care what princess thought? He pushed the thought aside. "Very well." Hollow words, Sorana could tell but she let it slide. Lucifer would come around, she hoped.

"Of course, we need not harbour feelings for each other." Sorana said out of the blue and Lucifer nods. That was a promise. No falling in love.

Sorana walks to the desk taking something out of the drawer and then she hands him the stack of paper and walks to the other side of the room and sits on the bed. The stack in question he looked at with silence, it was a contract. He read the rules. "If there's something you are uncomfortable with or against, just tell me and I'll remove it." Lucifer was quick to notice that there was no mention of intimate or affectionate actions written.

"Are we allowed to act as a couple as in actions wise?" Her purple hues stare at him pure shock in her eyes. "What?"

Lucifer stands up, walking to her. "If we're to be a couple even by convenience, we must be convincing. This means we need to be affectionate at the very least." He murmured softly, his fingers tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"I see, is that your only condition?" She asks. He nods simply, his eyes moving to her lips. Sorana felt uncomfortable in his gaze especially since she could no longer expect what she usually expected on him. "Very well, I suppose you should—" He kissed her. A kiss of union. A kiss that started the thing known as their relationship by convenience.

Lucifer sprang up, a nightmare had just come up into his mind, he clutched his throbbing head pained by the spirits within. Damn the deities and their punishments to the demons within.

"Hm?" A soft sleepy hum came from next to him, he had forgotten she was here. Sorana was next to him, her purple eyes fixate on him in a sleepy gaze. "Something wrong?" Her morning voice was everything he wanted to hear everyday. Even if he hated to admit it himself.

He shakes his head. "No." She nods before turning away from him, back facing him. He sighed, his eyes linger to her longingly. He wanted her warmth right now. Even if he hated her, he didn't even know what his feelings were anymore. Did he love her or did he wish her hate? Because here he was hating her and sleeping with her.

A hesitant move came to play and Sorana found herself being clung to by the male himself. His head buried in her shoulder, arms wrapped around her pulling her so very close to him encasing her to ensure she didn't dare leave his side even she needed to.

A few minutes pass and she feels him asleep, his breaths soft and slow. She could feel it against her bare skin. She grew flush but shrugged it off. No falling in love. She told herself. But even she knew it was too late for that.

She gave a shaky exhale and closes her eyes, going back to sleep.

Lucifer stood chattering with Arianne. He seemed happy. It made Sorana feel pang of hurt in her heart. But she couldn't do anything. In this relationship, she was only a pawn.

He comes to her after the party, he seemed...happy. Genuinely happy. It wasn't the feigned happiness he gives her when she did something. "Sorana?" She blinked, snapping out of her depressing thoughts.

"What?" "I asked if you're okay with me and Arianne talking today." He said, eyes suddenly filled with concern.

"Yes, why wouldn't I be? Isn't that what we're trying to achieve?" Every inch of her tried to keep herself from choking on her words.

He nods, his eyes were still filled with the unfamiliar emotion of concern towards her. "Okay." She gives a small smile trying to remain happy and intact.

But when she got home and finally alone in her room, she collapsed on the bed and covered her face. Letting tears stream down her face.

She recalled the multiple words he spoke to her. Loving words, words that meant nothing. Nothing compared to his to Arianne.

Now the thought crept in. The thought she hated to think about after all this time, but it was the truth. The painful truth.

Lucifer was getting close to all his goals. Which meant he was going to leave her soon. The mete thought brought pain to her heart even if they swore not to fall.

She was falling.

The news came from far and wide. Arianne was going to be a Tsuki. The thought that once would've brought him pain didn't. He didn't understand why.

The female in question thought she hurt him with the announcement when he surprisingly wasn't even hurt. She even came to him to apparently make love as if she wasn't getting married in four moons time.

"Arianne." He said coldly. "Let go." The female looked at him surprised. "Why?" "Why?! Maybe because you're marrying a man that isn't me and still coming here to make love with me? What the hell is wrong with you?"

"If you're jealous don't worry, I'll leave him once Father's plan is finished and then you and I can wed." She smiles as if those words could get him to go back to her. As if.

"What difference does that make?" Lucifer said, clearly pissed now. "I don't care if you're going to leave him, what I care about is the fact that you still think I still love you even after everything you and your bullshit of a family has done."

She was taken aback. Lucifer never talked this way. Never. "What's wrong with you?" She demanded. "You're never like this!" "What's wrong with me?" He laughs darkly. "What's wrong is that I've been stupid and blind to realize the person I thought I loved was not actually the one I loved and the person I hate was not the person I hate."

She knew who he hated. She knew well. "But...you said you love me." "I did until I realize the thing you and Connor planned and did."

"It was a small thing!" "Sexual assault is not a ‘SMALL’ thing Arianne! Sorana's fucking hurt, disgraced. She's been crying her eyes out for days all because of you and your brother's fucked up minds."

Arianne couldn't believe her ears and neither could Lucifer. What was he saying? Why did he care so damn much about Sorana? The one he loves is not actually the one he loves....

Lucifer pulled himself away from the clearly stunned girl and rushed out. Leaving was easy enough as Arianne did not chase him through the halls like she always did.

Where he went next was surprising even to him. He entered Sorana's room through the window. His eyes were met with the sight of her crying on the floor. She sensed his presence and he knew it well.

"You chose...the wrong time to come here, HellFire." She managed, wiping her tears. When she turns, her eyes widen when he was right behind her. His arms wrapping around her, his lips close and kissing her cheek softly.

"Please, allow me to comfort you." He whispered. Even those words made her sob. While she did, he held her close his blue eyes examining her state.

It was that moment when he knew. He wouldn't leave her.

Not anymore.

The day finally came. Lucifer's goals were met and that meant celebration of his heroic but quite controversial acts.

The streets were filled with festivals made in his own honour. Everyone greeted and treated him with utmost respect. It was the opposite of what he once wished, but all that mattered was his goals were finally met with success.

Arianne gave him hints that she wanted him to love her but he ignored her. After all, he had eyes on only one person. Sorana.

He knew she wouldn't be there. After all, the time had come for the end of the relationship. The contractual relationship would end today and a new one would enter.

Sorana had been crying all day. Her eyes were red and puffy from how much she'd been crying. She didn't want it to end. But a contract was a contract.

Lucifer enters and she was aware. "Sorana?" "Hey..." He could tell she had been crying. "The paper's right there, I've already signed it." She whispered, her eyes tearing up at the mere sentence. She knew she had to deal with it. A deal was a deal.

Her eyes watch him as he leaned forward and grabbed the quill. He signed it and it was done. They were no longer a couple.

Her heart heaved as she turned, trying to hide her tears. She thought he was gone now, she heard the window slide and his presence disappears from her wave of senses. She gulped as tears streamed down her face once more.

"I love you... I love you." She choked out as she buried her face in the pillow and cried.

The fantasies. The wishes that he'd fall. All gone.

The wishes that she could just maybe make him fall for her and them getting married those were swept away like dust.

She sobbed for a while a certain longing in her heart, but suddenly arms wrapped around her pulling her close. An action she thought was her hallucination. She yearned for his love after all. The feeling of those arms were like his. Was it him? The arms pulled away and she was alone again. In the cold, she gets up so she can get the paper because she had to.

She turned was not greeted with the sight she'd originally expected. Before her was none other than Lucifer, on his knee. A ring held out and presenting itself to her. Implying what she thought was an impossible thing. "Lucifer?" Her eyes fill with tears yet again.

"Will you marry me?" Words she wished to hear, words that came true. She nods and Lucifer smiled and hugged her, kissing her lips passionately.

Lucifer stands there now. Lips in a firm line as he watched the scenery. She was gone now. Lost in the depths of the underworld.

"Good night, I love you darling." Her last words. He'd told her he loved her too. But when a piercing scream of Death Tsuki came to his ears he found himself clutching the dead body of his beloved.

His lips trembled as he knelt down by the stone that marked her lying place. "I love you too." He whispered softly, tears finally came out as they dropped down to the soil. His hand rests on her stone and stays there. He grabbed the white roses he had bought, roses that represented her. His beautiful wife.

When he slept that night he sees her again, like he always did. Her everything was in his memory never erasing. But every morning he'd jerk up and the side that belonged to her on their bed was empty. Like it always was.

"Why didn't you stay..." He whispered, choking on his tears.

Naomi Osaka and Cori Gauff remain on collision course at Australian Open

15-year-old Gauff overcame Sorana Cirstea 4-6 6-3 7-5

Naomi Osaka and Cori Gauff, two of the most precocious talents tennis has had in many years, are on track to meet in the third round of the Australian Open on Friday. The defending champion will start favourite, having beaten the American teenager handily at Flushing Meadows six months ago, but will take nothing for granted.

They won in contrasting styles on Wednesday, Osaka having the easier time of it over two sets against the unseeded Saisai Zheng in an hour and 20 minutes on Margaret Court Arena, while Gauff, the youngest player in either draw at 15, had to dig deep to beat the seasoned Romanian Sorana Cirstea, 4-6 6-3 7-5, in a thriller that lasted just over two hours on the Melbourne Arena.

“Brace yourself, higher student debt is coming”

Over recent months we have seen attacks on the autonomy and academic freedom of universities, the initiation of a process that falsely claims to measure and rank teaching excellence and another fee rise that will turn into a potential year-on-year increased fee rise for future students. Yet in November, the most recent HM Treasury’s Autumn Statement was released with, unfortunately, more bad news for students.

There have been discussions for many years around the ‘Student Loan Book’ – a so-called national asset that is all of our student debt; it registers at over an enormous £76 billion currently. For at least the past six years, the government has discussed its intention to sell off a part of this income-contingent loan book yet, to date, it has not happened. The Autumn Statement however states:

“The government is continuing to pursue the sale of the pre-2012 income contingent repayment student loan book, and subject to market conditions intends to launch the first sale in early 2017.”

Why are the government doing this?

As the NUS Vice President for Higher Education, Sorana Vieru, nicely summarises:

“In short, to raise some money at a time when there’s a high national deficit. Of course, they could raise money by increasing taxes on the rich, or on corporations – but that isn’t their style. From a Treasury point of view, you can argue there are other benefits: in principle, it also reduces the national debt and reduces the risk to the public purse, because if you sell off the loan, and it turns out repayment is lower than forecast, the buyer is the one to lose out. Money now and less risk – what’s not to like, right?

Except, unsurprisingly, it doesn’t quite work like that.

In order to find a buyer for student loans, the government has to sell them for far lower than the face value. In part, this is because the government expects to lose money on the loans, because a certain proportion will never be repaid, either because earnings are too low or people die. The big investment companies that buy the loans want to make a profit – to receive more, in the end, in repayments, than they pay upfront – so will have a very conservative estimate of the likely repayment levels and will then want a profit margin built in.”

What does this mean for me?

This could mean interest rates rise for students as well as anyone who has graduated in the last 15 years. The government has ruled this out but, considering that an amendment to the Higher Education and Research Bill proposing a ban on retrospective loan agreement changes was voted down, it is not implausible. Higher interest rates would force students and graduates to pay back more despite a tougher economic climate and more difficult job prospects. However we are all likely to lose out in the long term, because of the terms and conditions of the expected sell off: clauses called “synthetics hedges” are introduced that mean that there is much less to the companies who buy the loans, whilst the public is forced to compensate the buyers of the loans if repayments are lower than expected as the government would have to fund any shortfall in expected profit for the companies.

What can I do?

·       Organise a campaign on campus or locally
