Part 8. the broken hearts club
Summary:
It’s been a year now, since you were accepted into U.A. University’s Support Course, and nine months since you started working with the hero course. It was only a matter of time right, as Recovery Girls new apprentice? If only love was as easy as college.
Written.
MDNI.
M a s t e r L i s t
T a g L i s t : @inakugo @onigirintarou @sakefishwrites
“yn!” The anger and growl that came from Monoma approaching you in the courtyard was never something you’d expect. He was a trickster, an instigator to your Hero Class but he was never irate, has never spoken in such an angry, venomous tone. The red in his face, was completely new and off putting.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” You set your bag down next to Sero, who was looking as dumbfounded as you.
“You. I can’t fucking believe you!” He stopped you in your tracks. What was this sudden change?
“Me? Monoma that makes no sense, you were okay just ten minutes ago?”
“How could I be okay knowing the things that you’ve done!”
“Hey! Watch your fucking self bro. She hasn’t done anything?”
“So you don’t know? You’re her best friend and you don’t fucking know? Well news for you Hanta” Monoma spat. “You’re best friend here, is a selfish, greedy, envious bitch of a woman is the most spineless, petty and horrible person I’ve ever come to know!”
Finally Kendou showed up, Sora following right behind her with a wicked smile. You stood there, staring, anyone looking at you could tell your heart was breaking. Sero stepped forward, grabbing Monoma by his shirt until you yelled his name.
“Sero stop!” You put your hand on Sero’s shoulder, removing his hands from your boyfriends shirt despite the disgusted look on Monoma’s face. “Monoma, talk to me. What happened in the last ten minutes?”
“Everything happened. I discovered the truth of your whole life.”
“Monoma I’ve told you everything-” You reached up for his face, only to have your hands slapped away. Kendou called for you, but you were stuck in a trance. Sero had noticed, then he noticed Sora.
“No. All you’ve done is lie, and I’m not talking about this with you so you can lie to me more. I’m here to end this, yn.” He took a step back, fixing his bag. “I hope you have the life you deserve. You better not be pregnante, yn. You’d make a terrible mother.” Monoma turned around, so he couldn’t see you start to shake, or cry. “Maybe you should have died that day.”
Everything became a blur to you after that. You dropped to your knees, unable to register anything.
Was this Sora? You hadn’t seen her, you hadn’t heard of her talking to him again. You thought you were safe, you actually thought you were safe. But even she couldn’t have made him go this far.
The soles of your feet had disappeared into ash, and the earth below started to grow grey and the life of the grass and everything around you slowly began to wither away. You sobbed silently, shaking in a trance that seemed more like hypnosis. Your nose started to bleed your breathing became staggered and with every little cough more blood had rested onto the dead grass below you.
“yn!” Sero called for you, slowly backing away from the perimeter of the dying earth, unsure if he could even get to you physically. “Someone go fucking get Aizawa!”
Kendou turned, heading in Sora’s direction but not without seeing the look of dispear and fear in the girls eyes. Right before Kendou could grab ahold of Sora, she called out to Monoma. “Monoma!” She saw him stop, and turn, her eyes began to glow as she said one more word, “Go!”
SLAP.
Within that same moment Monoma stumbled, out of his emotional and mental manipulation that Sora seemingly released. Looking around he noticed the fear, the yelling the screaming. He saw Kendou slapping the hell out of Sora, and then heard Sero calling for yn. “Sero!” Monoma bolted in the direction of his girlfriend, “What’s happening!?”
“You get the hell away!” he spat, ready to take him down himself but the fear and confusion in Monoma’s eyes made Sero feel sick, when Sero looked at Sora and Kendou fighting on the ground, he had realized, Monoma had been tricked.
Sora and Kendou had finally seperated, Kendou yelling for you first as Sora just cried and crawled in your direction. “yn! Think of the baby! yn! Think of the baby!”
“What’s happening here!?” Eraserhead had appeared, along with Vlad King.
“I didn’t want this! I didn’t want her hurt like this!” Sora sobbed, stepping into the dead grass and looking at her sister, lifting her head. “Eraserhead!” Sora cried, the teacher activing his quirk the moment that Sora had lifted your head, tears sobbing down your face with enough blood to use as ink. When Eraserhead had stopped your quirk, your head had dropped again with your body, Sora holding you close to her. You were so pale, your eyes were yellow and your skin was cold and turning purple in grey.
Sirens were heard in the distance, Monoma, Sero, Kendou, Aizawa and Kan watching in confusion as Sora just cried, your blood staining her clothes. It took a moment for Aizawa to pull you out of Soras arms, Kendou and Sero holding her back as she tried to lunge at the teacher taking her sister away, “I didn’t want her to die! She’s still my sister, I didn’t want her to die!”
There, Monoma silently sobbed, turning to Vlad King after feeling his teachers hand on his shoulder. No words needed to be shared, the two just shared a glance at each other while Aizawa carried you into the ambulance.

Hoshiai no Sora: Cast Comments
Q & A with the voice actors of the main cast. Translated from the official Twitter. Feel free to point out any corrections, and please check out some of the creators’ accounts:
Akane Kazuki (director)
Itsuka (character designer)
Takeshi (animator)
Kyuujou Kiyo (illustrator)
Takahashi Yuuichi (animator)
MLANG (animator)
Hanae Natsuki-san (voice of Katsuragi Maki)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
At first, I guessed he was a cool and behaved kid, but this changed into the impression that he was a child with no two-facedness to him and a feel-good personality, who firmly conveys his own opinions without being swayed by the people around him. Also, he laughs and makes merry in accordance to his age too, so it is fun to play him.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was part of the soft tennis club, so I am extremely happy to get to perform in this production. Through this series, many things had me thinking, “This happens, this happens” and it makes me reminisce to my school days. I was the vice-president, but our tennis club was not that earnest about competing, so we did not go as far as Shijou Minami Junior High, but I believe the club activities had a similar air to them.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
This is a work that touches the rare subject of soft tennis, while the number of schools that only have regular tennis gradually increases as one goes from middle to high school. It is a given for people who take part in soft tennis, but the delicate feelings of middle schoolers are also being depicted here through getting quite deep into their core, so I believe this is a series that makes the ones watching feel and think all sorts of things. Please watch over it until the very end.
Hatanaka Tasuku-san (voice of Shinjou Touma)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
Shinjou Touma is a child with an extremely strong sense of responsibility. The environment he grew up in has an influence on this, but he ends up exploding due to shouldering too many things and not knowing how to let it out when it became hard for him... The more I get to know him, the more I feel like giving him a hug. That’s the kind of person he is.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was part of the basket club during my six years from middle to high school and on the bench. That’s why I would let my voice out higher than anyone, and since I could not manage to do anything whenever I entered the court, I would just run, anyhow. The nickname I earned from this was “Runner”. I was neither “center” nor “forward”, just “Runner”.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
Honestly, I have absolutely no idea of how this work will be receptioned. But I thought, “I want to respond to the things that the director wants to write about and to his passion, from the bottom of my heart”. That’s why I had strong thoughts about getting close to the individuals that appear in this story, being hurt and moving forward together with them, and taking part in this series. I am truly glad to have become involved with it. Please do have expectations for it.
Matsuoka Yoshitsugu-san (voice of Ameno Itsuki)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
He is a boy with a deep darkness to him, except this darkness has a proper reason to be, so I look forward to when people get shocked upon finding that out. He is also a cute boy, so I hope people will enjoy the many emotions, expressions and lines from him.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was in the wind instruments club, but I was always thinking about skipping. There were few guys in it, so whenever classes ended, a senior would often come to pick me up! Like, “Matsuoka! I’ll go with you!!” I really gave him a lot of trouble.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
It is turning into a story that will not go through conventional methods. Many individuals of all kinds appear in it, but this is a series that depicts each human being very rawly, so I hope people will enjoy this rich story until the end. We also want to perform “Hoshiai no Sora” to our utmost, so we will be in your care from now on too!
Satou Gen-san (voice of Futsu Rintarou)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
Rintarou is a very serious and kindhearted person who can observe his surroundings better than anyone. On one side, he is extremely sensible, overthinks, does not manage to give his opinions and ends up hiding his true thoughts, so when I perform him, I make sure to do it while deciding in my mind, “Don’t leave Rintarou on his own no matter what” and, “Stay close to him until the end”.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I used to belong to the kendou club, but the club activities were aimed to win the nationals, so practice was extremely severe. During practice match expeditions, we would ride in the late-night bus and keep practicing from morning to evening non-stop just like that, and to make our bodies grow bigger, we would eat a mountain of curry, fist-sized minced meat fried cakes and gigantic hot dogs in one go until we got upset stomatches, so I have the strong impression that it was strict and terrible if nothing else.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
I think its contents resonate with the hearts of both people who are currently students and people who are working as members of society. If they could love the characters of Hoshiai no Sora, who are somewhat heartrending but try to live day by day with utmost effort, I would be really happy.
Toyonaga Toshiyuki-san (voice of Soga Tsubasa)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
I have the impression that he is a child right in the middle of puberty, who ends up saying what he thinks aloud. It feels like he takes a while to find the will to do things, so I think he is simply carefree.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was a ghost member of the basket club. I joined because a girl I liked back then was a member of the female basket club. My motive was impure, huh (laughs).
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
I think it will be pretty impactful for those who watch it thinking that it is an uplifting youth-and-sports thing. It depicts all sorts of problems that actually happen in reality. Please do watch these strong messages with your families; I would be happy if they become a trigger for people to reflect on things.
Satou Keisuke-san (voice of Takenouchi Shingo)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
I thought Shingo was an upfront kid in a very good sense. Also, I felt that, in contrast with his strong-look appearance, he is very considerate of his friends, has a side to him that’s got guts, and is adorable too. I am really looking forward to how he will progress from now on.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was in the basket club, but all I did was slack off. There were only four members and the club activities only included running, and after that, we would do nothing but chat. Then we would run off so that the teacher of that period would not find us out (laughs). I would think, “One way or another, these are also memories of my youth”.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
Developments that people cannot predict at all are waiting, and they make you extremely anxious. It is fully loaded with obsession for even minute details, so you will be unable to take your eyes off it from the beginning to the end! I hope to enjoy these moments together with everyone. “Hoshiai no Sora” is in your care!
Koyabashi Yuusuke-san (voice of Tsukinose Nao)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
Nao is a child whose appearance and mind are flighty, and also a mysterious kid who speaks of dellusions as if they were actually reality. But during club activities, he makes efforts in his own way so that he will not drag everyone down, so the gap between this and his fickle personality left an impression on me.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was in the wind instruments club. I wanted to play the trumpet, but the pretty senior who was teaching us during the trial enrollment played the horn, so I was swayed by her sweet talk, and before I realized it, I was playing the horn myself (laughs). I should beware of sweet temptations, is what I thought during my middle school years.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
People might get tripped up if they are watching it thinking that it is an anime where children are enjoyably playing soft tennis to their utmost. It is precisely because those kids are at that age that I would like people to observe thoroughly the depiction of the mindsets they embrace.
Amasaki Kouhei-san (voice of Ishigami Taiyou)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
I think Taiyou-kun is a gentle child. He cannot decide things on his own, always taking action by matching up with other’s opinions. I felt that the way his Kansai dialect sometimes has a common language ring to it was realistic.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was in the swim club. During summer, we would swim over 10km from morning to evening. We would run the competitive club relays in the PE festival wearing one layer of swimsuit. I think it was an experience I can no longer manage.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
“Hoshiai no Sora” is a work made extremely carefully, and even during the post-recording, the love I can feel from the creators is huge, so I think it is a very good series. There is not much I can say, so I hope you all can see for your own eyes when you watch it on-air! We will be in your care!
Mineda Mayu-san (voice of Mitsue Kanako)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
When I first saw her, I thought, “I guess she’s a shy and quiet girl?”, but that was splendidly betrayed. Kanako is the type to straightforwardly say what she thinks to the other party, and I think this aspect of hers, in a good sense, reeks of humanity quite a bit.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was the president of the art club, but I would walk around campus after school and observe the activities of other clubs. That includes the soft tennis club and the like. To all the art club members of back then, I’m sorry for being such an undisciplined club president...
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
This story intersects with the many emotions of middle schoolers living in the current era, who might actually exist somewhere within Japan. Also, the sounds of batted balls and squealing of sneakers are very real and have intensity, so I would like people to pay attention to them as well.
Yamaya Yoshitaka-san (voice of Asuka Yuuta)
Q1. Please tells us your impression about the character you play.
He is androgynous and has a soft demeanor, and I think he is truly a boy of kindhearted disposition. He somewhat lacks confidence, so he steps back and has a bird’s-eye view of things, but there is a reason for it. I would like people to pay attention to him along with the other characters’ worries.
Q2. Please tell us a memory of club activities from your middle school days.
I was in the soccer club. I had many experiences, like how plain fun it was kicking the ball, having awkward relationships, and learning the joy of getting sweaty doing practice and winning.
Q3. Leave a message for the people watching the series.
This is not just a multi-protagonist story about the youth of bright and uplifting boys. Troubles and issues that surely exist somewhere out there, though people usually do not try to look at them, are depicted realistically in it, and there were times it made my chest hurt. I want everyone to watch how each of them will face the things they are shouldering until the very end.

Hoshiai no Sora: Mantan Web Cast Comment #4
The compatibility of their voices is extraordinary. || A “youthful” memory from their middle school days would be...
<< Previous || Raw || Index || Next >>
We have asked Kobayashi Yuusuke-san, who plays the flighty boy that moves by his own pace, Tsukinose Nao, and Amasaki Kouhei-san, who plays Ishigami Taiyou, a mild-mannered one with a personality that causes him to easily become nervous, about their thoughts on this series, their impressions of each other as actors and memories of their own middle school years.
Performing sensible characters sensibly.
——What is your impression of the series? It looks like an uplifting sports anime, but heavy themes are depicted in it.
Kobayashi-san: In the audition, I thought it was going to be a normal club activities anime. I had not had many experiences with sports animes before, so I was thinking, “I’ll get to play young! Let’s do it passionately!”… but I was shocked at the unexpected writing style.
Amasaki-san: Same as Yuusuke-san, I was enthusiastic about it, like, “We’re gonna take the crown with tennis!”, so I was surprised.
——All the characters in “Hoshiai no Sora” are sensible. Anything you are conscious of when performing?
Kobayashi-san: I was thinking, “Is he the quirky one who doesn’t have a point to understanding him and who says stuff that nobody quite gets?”, but there is something heavy behind that, so I was shocked at this too. I was thinking about how to make him mild, so that he would not be just a lying, unlikeable child.
Amasaki-san: Taiyou observes people’s complexions and gets nervous at tennis matches. His special feature is that he uses a unique language mixed with Kansai dialect. I have played characters with Kansai dialect before, but this was completely different from what I had done until now. His parents are from Kansai, but Taiyou is from Tokyo and was also raised there. He mixes Tokyo speech with Kansai dialect. He makes sure not to use too much Kansai dialect in class, but there is a side of him that lets loose during club activities, so the Kansai dialect reveals itself a little. But it is not a full-fledged Kansai dialect. It was hard. I am from Oosaka, so I performed frantically by receiving advice from the director about the phraseology.
Their voices are similar, but what underlies each is different?
——What are your impressions of each other as actors?
Amasaki-san: The first time we co-acted as regulars was in “Re:Zero (Re:Zero kara Hajimaru Isekai Seikatsu)”, right? I observe and study Yuusuke-san’s acting. Personally, I am also happy that we get to talk about all sorts of things as well.
Kobayashi-san: I often play loud characters, so since Amasaki-kun has a high-toned voice, I used to think, “He’s my enemy!” (laughs).
Amasaki-san: No way (laughs).
Kobayashi-san: But after we started talking to each other, this stopped. We also did the role of twins (in Tsurune -Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu-), so I guess our voices are a good match?
Amasaki-san: When we were playing twins, the “twin feeling” came to us naturally.
Kobayashi-san: I am often told that my voice “has a shadow to it”. Isn’t Taiyou the cheerful one and Nao the shady one? We have similar voice qualities but what underlies them is different, I guess?
Amasaki-san: That’s why we match, I guess?
——Are you self-conscious of each other as well?
Amasaki-san: I really admire him!
Kobayashi-san: He is gradually taking on starring roles, huh? I check.
Amasaki-san: I also check!
Kobayashi Yuusuke’s all too busy middle school days.
——By the way, do any of you have experience with tennis?
Kobayashi-san: I do, in a way. I was in England until I turned 10, and during that time, I played regular tennis in grade school. But I could not get my serves in no matter what, so I soon quit.
Amasaki-san: I also used to play soft tennis on campus in grade school. I bought the regular tennis racket by mistake, and things did not go well at all. Because of this, I did not keep up with it…
Kobayashi-san: I want to try doing it again even from now. Saying, “Tennis is my hobby!” is cool. No, but I guess it is difficult after all (laughs).
——Any memories from your middle school years?
Amasaki-san: I was in the swim club. I had been swimming since I was little, and I did not like it very much at that time, but it became fun after I joined the swim club in middle school. During the winter of my second year, I did my best to practice seriously, so my timing improved a lot by the summer of my third year and I was made into a regular. It became really good experience for the fact that “You get results when you do your best!”. I learned the importance of doing my best.
Kobayashi-san: When I was in middle school, I had too many things I wanted to do, so I was always busy… My club activities were in the brass band club and I was also learning kendou and instrumental gymnastics. I was brimming with curiosity, and because of that, it was hard to get it all done every day.
——Lastly, please tell us what to pay attention to in the series.
Amasaki-san: It has heavy subjects, but that is not all, and there are also fun scenes. I think it is a series that makes people remember their middle school days and that generates all sorts of emotions. The episodes have been broadcasted already, so I would like people who are starting it now to pay good attention to the first episode.
Kobayashi-san: When you think, “Why are they playing soft tennis?”, it might be that they gathered up in search of some sort of place to belong. They understand each other’s pain, and when there is a trigger, they can also give off a feeling of solidarity. It is a youthful series in a broad sense, and also one with a future. There are many heavy scenes as well, so people might not think, “It was fun!” but there should be people who will definitely think, “I’m glad I watched it!”. By all means, watch it until the very end.

no one watches sora no umi no aida which is great bc i can tell you makoto’s trans coded and that will be the only thing you know about the show. for the record, i dont think it’ll be canon but makoto:
Is referred to only as “makoto” or “makoto-kun” even though they’re on the girl’s squad
refers to self as “boku” instead of “watashi”
Wanted to become a space fisher specifically because it’s a male dominated field, and wanted to prove that he could succeed, especially after his father refused to teach him their family business because it would go against tradition
That family business, btw, is sword making. Makoto is very in love with swords, and is constantly practicing with a kendou stick
Has body dysphora. Literally refused to go to the beach w friends because he didn’t want to be in a bathing suit
he’s also afraid of water but thats like, definitely not all there is
Also, he’s always shown in masculine clothing. there’s been a couple flashbacks for him, and in them and the present, he’s always dressed very boyish
#like the last episode introduced a character whos obviously crossdressing#and from what we've heard im guessing its bc they felt like#they were too weak to be considered a man#and bc they were going into a female dominated field#so like.#its probably not worth watching#but im having fun#adventures of angel

Sora/Ippan 14
Ippan Josei was in heaven, or as close as she could remember. As ordinary a woman as she was, she was grateful to have reunited with the boy she had met when she was 7 during a parade.
She was now lucky enough to have been dating him for several months, having stopped at a place had suggested after taking in a parade in the area they had first met at.
Sora was incredible, tall and limber with an athletic build and a boyish exuberance that matched his vibrant teal eyes and dusting of freckles.
The two practiced dancing alone on the floor of the little Biker Bar known as the Viper Pit. It had been a locale he had frequented since childhood, despite its reputation and clientele.
Yet here he was: Sora Kendou, one of the youngest Pro Heroes in the country. Some of the patrons weren't exactly law abiding but to Sora, they were old family friends.
It was only fair he took his date here. It definitely helped that the owner was a heteromorph as well, a giant snake man, albeit with limbs. Either way, he lived up to his name.
The establishment had a rugged charm. It certainly wasn't Tidal Rave, the first place they went for a dancing date when they started out. It wasn't like the family restaurant they had their first date at either.
Sora gazed up at the giant woman as his teal eyes met her blue ones. A boyish smile crept across his freckled face.
"A little less extravagant and their seafood menu is limited, but I hope this is a good place for us to practice dancing. Even picked out some music for us. Not any club hits, I'm afraid. Hope you like slow jazz and a pool table in the corner. "
Ippan shook her head and squeaked, her body swaying to the rhythm of the smoothe music emanating from the Jukebox. "I-it's lovely, Sora. Honestly."
"You're an expert in that department, so I'll take your word for it." Sora sighed the words as he did his best not to step on her toes. So far, so good at least.
He just needed to keep it up. It wasn't exactly hard. Proper foot placement was important as both a hero and a martial artist, both things he had intensive training in. Alas, when music and a partner were involved, his feet seemed to contort in such a way that they were both his right foot.
And yet he had done well enough so far. His sidekicks could piss up a rope, especially Koyuki. He was just fine.
Unfortunately, in that moment of pride, the planets aligned and Ippan's two left feet tripped over Sora's right feet. It all felt like slow motion as the 8 foot tall woman lost her balance and started to tumble to the ground.
Thud!
The floor shook as Ippan hit it with a thud, landing in a precarious position on top of Sora as their eyes met. Sora in particular tried to maintain eye contact and not look at anything else. The two gulped as their heart rates skyrocketed. As if united by a common thread, the young couple shared a single thought.
"Well…This is Awkward."

Note
Aside from what we've thought up before. He'd be cool with Burning.
Interesting. Hot foot special.
"Oi, Moe's. There's a festival in my hometown. Wanna hit it up? I swear. Best Takoyaki in Chiba."
