SOPHIE'S TOP 5 PYRAMIDS, RANKED
5-The Louvre Pyramid in Paris, France. I respect the boldness of the design, and it really does feel timeless. Still looks brand new today. Bonus points for being a big dick according to Dan Brown.
4-Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, Egypt. A real golden oldie. Trendsetter. I simply must respect it.
3-Temple of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza, Mexico. This one's classic, and excellently preserved. Fun fact, it's built literally on top of a cenote, which is fucking badass.
2-McDonnell Douglas DC-X. Look it up. That's a pyramid. Square at the base and tapers towards the top. Unlike the others, it has rocket engines, which is a big plus.
1-Bass Pro Shops pyramid in Memphis, TN. I'd have to be tasteless not to put this one at the top. What a beast. What a magnificent fucking thing. A monster in the truest sense--a message. A sign that something transformational has arrived.

Barrow dog Maya undergoes life-saving surgery after Go Fund Me success
Sophie McDonnell launched an appeal online in December to fund a critical operation for her family’s new puppy Maya. The Walney family discovered Maya had a severe case of hip dysplasia six months after picking up the ‘lovable’ pooch. The mum-of-one was told her canine was in urgent need of two new hips. Maya, who […]

I’ve finally finished art school! It’s taken 6 years (I had to take time off in the middle for immigration stuff) and it was way harder than I thought going back for my final year, but it’s done!
These are 10 of the illustrations I made for my final project, a book about female artists. Some of them are super well known, some less so, but they’re all incredibly talented and they’ve all made a difference. I especially recommend checking out Sophie Porter, Sara Harrington, and Fiona McDonnell. I know them all as friends, they all graduated from my university, and they’re all doing amazing work in different sectors.

how come writers never use duncan and mimei as side characters in their AU's? i know they aren’t that close to dnp in real life, but that’s usually not much a barrier. there's no shortage of fic that use dodie and jimmy and anthony and a bunch of other ytbers with varying degrees of association to dnp. and yet the only time i can find duncan and mimei in fics is for canon compliant japhan stuff. i don't mean this to sound accusatory i'm just perplexed
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can come up with lots of guesses! (Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever written a non-canon side character?) I think one factor is that, as you mention, we don’t see them in fic much – which means when someone is thinking about what side characters to use, they might not come to mind. Another big one, I think, is just who people watch. I think Dodie, for example, turns up more often in fic because the people writing the fic know enough about her for that to make sense. Personally, I don’t see people talk about Duncan and Mimei much unless they’re directly interacting with D&P; I would guess that there’s not a ton of viewer overlap with the phanfic community. I’d guess geography is a factor, even if it doesn’t make sense; of course in an AU Duncan & Mimei could live in London, but I do think it’s most common even in AUs for people to choose UK Youtubers for UK-set fic. [I should probably point out here that the main exceptions to the UK-Youtubers rule are Cat and Anthony... who are American. Potentially for the who-people-watch reason, there aren’t any non-UK non-US (non-Irish) Youtubers who show up in fic basically at all, and this potentially also has to do with being English-centric, US-centric, and maybe even structural racism. I’m American, I watch mostly American and British Youtubers, and I bet it’s more common for non-US non-UK viewers to watch US & UK Youtubers than the other way around.] Then there’s also the fact that they’re strongly associated as a couple; the go-to for fic that needs a side character couple would probably be Martyn & Cornelia, PJ & Sophie, wirrony if it’s an older fic/set in the past, or a side ship like Chris & PJ. Sure, Duncan or Mimei could appear individually, or with the other just alluded to, but I think the phandom tends to view them as a unit more than, say, Louise & Liam or Anthony & Miel. When a fic needs an ex/person to be jealous over/similar, for example, it doesn’t feel as natural for Duncan or Mimei to fill that spot. (danrific, amazingskies, and kickthefire have been enough of a fan thing that they seem like more obvious choices, and Anthony’s flirtation happened.) Which also probably relates to, for Duncan at least, the presumed straightness. I think the popularity of Jimmy has to do with how much we love him and trends (and just the appeal of uni-Phil getting a ship), but also his queerness. For better or worse, Anthony’s queerbaity tendencies have probably given him some of that, and people like Adam that’s probably a big factor.
Based on my analysis, some Youtubers you might expect to be in fic a lot more than they are: Marcus Butler, Emma Blackery, Evan Edinger, Hazel Hayes, Jack Howard, Dean Dobbs, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Charlie McDonnell… I do think a lot of those people have done things to piss off the phandom, they’re mostly straight, and their interactions with D&P are older… and maybe they’d fill a similar role to more popular choices like Louise, Cat, Anthony, Charlieskies, and Jimmy. Also Thomas Sanders and Safiya would make sense, if we nix the geography part. There are also a bunch of back-in-the-day folks I would be surprised we don’t see much, except that a lot of us don’t know much about them at this point unless we do a lot of digging.
Really, unless a fic needs to use specific attributes of someone less commonly used, or they’re using a ton of Youtubers, I think people stick with the people who seem more obvious.
I bet this is a lot more than you wanted, sorry! I think it would be really interesting to see what Duncan and Mimei brought to fic apart from their canon situations, whether as a couple or individually. You could write it!

Labour leader sacks former leadership rival over claims of antisemitism - BBC News by BBC News The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has sacked his former rival for the labour leadership, Rebecca Long Bailey, for sharing an article which contained what Keir Starmer claimed was an “anti-semitic' conspiracy theories”. The Shadow Education Secretary had retweeted an interview with actor and Labour supporter Maxine Peake in which she said that “the tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services”. Rebecca Long-Bailey was asked to delete the tweet but chose not to, although she later said she did not endorse all aspects of the article. Some senior figures in the party defended her, with the former shadow chancellor John McDonnell saying that criticism of Israel was legitimate and the article was not antisemitic.
