CHILDHOOD CANONS.

all six girls were born in the same private london hospital - amber and felicity even had the same midwife. working canonically, eloise was born in 1994, amber in 1995, felicity in 1998, violet in 2000 and lacey and zara in 2002, meaning there’s only really eight short years between the girls.

only amber would have been alive to meet eloise’s birth mother, cora. when cora and gerald got a divorce, the original agreement was for cora to rent a hotel room so that she could still coparent. this happened for around 3 years before it was clear anthea and cora weren't going to get on. she moved to the south of england and for a little while, eloise would still pay her visits but this stopped just after her fifth birthday.

amber, eloise and felicity were often known as the golden trio going through school because they were inseparable despite being in different year groups. their individual friendship groups often merged and there would always be little girls running around the calloway in anthea’s dresses or having sleepovers in one of the suites.

relations between eloise and anthea weren’t ALWAYS bad. even though anthea liked to make sure amber stayed on top, she knew she couldn’t be seen bullying a little girl. the isolation was always sneaky; for instance, buying all 3 girls dresses and getting amber & felicity matching ones while eloise’s was slightly different. or, snapping pictures of amber and felicity on day trips/vacations and making sure those were the ones that got framed. eloise only really noticed as she got older and that’s when things fell apart.

gerald had a very active roll in all three of the older girls lives. he was at every recital, parents evening, sports day etc. they were and still are his world. he adores violet, lacey and zara too but their dynamic is a little bit different now that he’s busier with the hotel.

felicity was always the best at sports. she surpassed amber and eloise in her swimming lessons despite starting later and would always win on sport’s days too, which made her pretty popular with the kids at school.

when anthea was pregnant with violet, she and gerald purchased the family’s second home; a scenic property in Cornwall (south-west of England), overlooking the ocean and with acres of land. many summers were spent down here and it turned out to be eloise’s favourite of the three homes (hotel, london home and that one)

once on a car ride down to cornwall, violet was sick everywhere which meant they had to pull over on to the hard shoulder to sort everything out. amber refused to sit next to her after that which meant anthea was stuck in the back passenger seats with felicity and vi.

when violet was born, felicity went into a meltdown for about 2 weeks because she realised she was no longer the baby. however, she soon realised she had somebody to boss around and was fine with that.

the girls went on their first full family vacation when the twins were four, eloise was twelve, amber was eleven, felicity was nine and violet was six. it was orlando, florida and was in celebration of eloise’s birthday and her and amber starting high school. it was easily one of the most memorable trips for all of the girls.

violet was the quietest/easiest child. she wasn’t passive or a pushover and would fight her sisters if they tried it, but she didn’t need much attention to stay entertained. she was obsessed with the tweenies and would be pretty happy just watching that, reading or playing with her toys.

9 times out of ten, if amber got in trouble, it was because she used anthea’s make up or stole a piece of jewellery for school and lost it. once she used her mum’s vintage Chanel bag for a non-uniform day and leaked lucozade all through the inside. naturally, it was felicity who snitched on her.

from the perspectives of their primary school teachers: eloise - the teacher’s pet, the right amount of talkative, kind, caring, pretty good at all subjects amber - english smart but not maths smart, a bit chatty, more focused on her friends but always polite felicity - NEVER paying attention but somehow always understood the work, only really liked practical experiments in science and loved PE, fidgety but every teacher had a bit of a soft spot. violet - freakishly smart, a high-achiever, more on the quiet side compared to her older sisters, never got involved in class discussions but shined when it came to independent work lacey - a know-it-all and a bit of a show off, had multiple trips to the headteacher, loves the attention and would do her best when she got to be in the spotlight, not their fave sister to teach zara - quiet, an average student; probably the weakest out of the six academically, charming, polite, excelled in art, quite shy and only had a small group of friends

gerald and the girls’ would have “secret meetings” in McDonalds where he’d take them to the nearest drive-thru and bought them what they wanted once every two weeks if they did well in all of their classes/clubs. this was all behind anthea’s back because fast food was a no-no to her.

when lacey and zara started reception at four, it was anthea’s only chance to have a school photograph of ALL of the girls in primary school because it would’ve been eloise’s last year (she was eleven and in year 6). that exact photo sits on the mantlepiece of their london home; zara’s crying in it and sat on amber’s lap, lacey’s not smiling on eloise’s lap, violet is smiling but has multiple teeth missing and has pen on her face, eloise is blinking, amber’s annoyed at not being middle and felicity is doing the peace sign and pouting (something she was specifically asked not to do)

the girls have ALWAYS had their own rooms because their house was big enough to accommodate. they all had pastel colours because anthea wouldn’t allow anything else but lacey, violet and felicity’s were always notoriously messy. violet also somehow managed to buy a secret goldfish when she was ten and kept it in her room for a few months before the housekeeper ratted her out.

when eloise started high school, she would pick up the girls from school and would walk them to the park and get ice-cream for them when it was sunny, even though she was only a year older. she was definitely like a mini-mom.

at first, eloise and amber were inseparable and then when felicity came along, amber and felicity became stupidly close and eloise always felt like a bit of an outsider. when violet came, the dynamics shifted again. violet was a lot closer to felicity and amber and eloise started to bond more. then, when the twins came, the four older girls came together a lot more. as they grew up, it’d often be violet, lacey and zara and then felicity, amber and eloise but nowadays the dynamics shift a lot and it really depends on what’s happening in their lives.

it’s a running joke that zara is eloise’s mini-me, lacey is felicity’s and violet is amber’s.

without fail, zara would be the first one awake on christmas morning. she’d wake up lacey, and then they’d go and wake up felicity because they knew she didn’t care about waking up their parents. that would prompt the other girls to get up too.

lacey used to have a HUGE fear of father christmas and would never go to any grottos or anything like that. there’s only pictures of the other five girls visiting santa because she used to actively have an anxiety attack at the mere thought.

all of the girls used to get invited to sleepovers but amber was always picked up before falling asleep because she’d get homesick and used to hate the idea of sleeping in somebody else’s sheets. a few of the parents actually found her quite rude and gerald could only apologise.

in adulthood, the height order is; felicity, amber, lacey, eloise, violet and then zara, but for a long time, eloise was the tallest, lacey, amber and felicity all had growth spurts when they hit 13 or 14.

felicity, amber and eloise once got banned from the internet for talking to strangers on club penguin and using pictures of one of their older cousins (who was a model and beautiful) to draw people in. gerald was furious.

their childhood dog was a Japanese Spitz called Marie Antoinette (named by felicity)

VACATION MEMORIES CANONS.

the orlando, florida vacation was the first holiday the girls went on with all six of them. they stayed in a home owned by gerald in Disney’s golden oaks; zara and eloise shared a room, felicity and violet shared a room and so did amber and lacey shared. the house was inspired by the princesses; amber, felicity and eloise all had a say in the design process.

on that same holiday, the girls insisted on wearing princess dresses to the park. there’s a photograph of the six of them in front of the castle wearing them. eloise was snow white, amber was sleeping beauty, felicity was cinderella, violet was ariel, lacey was belle and zara was jasmine.

“it’s a small world” ended up being eloise’s favourite ride and because of this, the girls ended up riding it a total of eight times. she still has a t-shirt with the attraction on it today.

zara refused to go on the jungle cruise because she was scared of the water and animatronics but then cried when all of her sisters (and gerald) got into the queue without her. the result ended up being her riding on gerald’s lap with him covering her eyes the whole way around.

felicity and amber told violet that the haunted mansion had real ghosts and kept tickling her neck when in line to creep her out. they were successful. she cried and anthea ended up having to take her back off the ride in the dark, leaving gerald with the other girls. gerald rode with lacey and zara and eloise, amber and felicity rode together. they all lowkey found it funny, but weren't allowed to mention it again.

when they went to one of the florida beaches, felicity went to surfboarding classes with a friend she made and ended up getting stung by a jellyfish. gerald had to sit in A&E with her for the rest of the day while anthea looked after the other girls.

the girl’s when to typhoon lagoon (a water park) in orlando and amber somehow managed to convince their parents to let her, amber, felicity and violet go off by themselves. it resulted in the older girls losing violet for half an hour until they found her crying by the lazy river. they all bribed her with getting to ride home in the front passenger seat to keep quiet. their parents STILL dont know that she was lost.

a boy staying in the house opposite had a crush on amber and would constantly knock on their door and runaway in hopes she would answer. this made gerald very protective even though she was only eleven & he insisted on answering the door to give him a fright every single time.

they went on a boat that took them whale and dolphin watching, which turned out to be a core memory for all of the girls.

the golden oaks house in disney hasn’t been visited for a while but the girls currently have joint ownership and planned to do a similar vacation when they all have their own children. or at least, that used to be the plan. things have obviously become more strained.

amber and eloise went away for amber’s eighteenth birthday to greece. it was their first time going away without their parents and the other girls were massively jealous. most of it was spent being drunk at night and flirting with guys, and then sunbathing on the beach for the day.

the girl’s have never been on vacation with the six of them without their parents because of the incident with lacey but when they were in their childhood, they scrapbooked that one day they’d go to Hawaii. it’s still yet to be crossed off of their bucket list.

the second family vacation they went on the twins were 14, violet was 16, felicity was 18, amber was 20 and eloise was 21. they were going on a cruise of the caribbean and there were A LOT more arguments on the trip where they were that bit older.

the girls stopped off in the bahamas where felicity, lacey, violet and zara went scuba diving with their dad and eloise and amber went to shop in the local area. zara ended up getting scared but it was too late for her to catch up with the others so she was made to sit with the instructor, who had to listen to her whining the whole time.

amber and felicity clashed massively over a designer dress which they both claimed to be theirs in the suitcase. it led to physical blows and the rooms being shuffled around; eloise roomed with amber, zara roomed with felicity and then violet and lacey stayed together.

zara had a huge crush on a family friend’s son that they decided to do the cruise with and the girls constantly teased her about it. one time amber caught her stuffing her training bra in the bathroom and she never lived it down. turns out he actually had a crush on eloise, even though she was eight years too old for him and definitely didn’t feel the same.

eloise would burn the easiest and felicity developed a game of accidentally on purpose slapping her sun burn whenever she could, which often led to an argument of some kind. the other girls lowkey got on board though because it was funny.

lacey and violet used to get mocktails from the cruise ships bar and would try to impress people as they walked past. obviously it never worked.

TEENAGE YEARS CANONS.

eloise became a lot more quiet during her teen years. she had a small group of friends and preferred staying in compared to her younger sisters. she had anxiety about missing out and having regrets but could never bring herself to go out in the same way amber and felicity did as they got older.

amber was signed to her first modelling agency at 16 and felicity was livid. it caused a lot of drama and arguments, even though felicity was signed just a couple of years later. amber chose to stay in high school and balance her jobs as she went. she remained very popular and definitely one of the “it girls” of her year group. that being said, she was the victim of jealousy and quite a few girls didn’t like her/would be bitchy towards her.

felicity was the first to get a boyfriend. she was around 14-15 and he was 17. obviously gerald wasn’t impressed. zara was terrified of him (growing up in a predominantly female household) and would never come out of her room when he came over. it was short-lived anyway.

violet was one of the rare teens who was boosted a grade once she got to high school. her genius quickly became clear and she actually sat a lot of classes in the grade above. she got to finish high school at 14 rather than 16, like most british teenagers do. she entered a few competitions for her writing and mathematic skills too and made the local newspaper.

lacey was acting while in high school and had her big break at 13. she came out of education pretty quickly and was home-schooled/taught on set instead. she never really had high school experiences the way her sisters did.

even though she had a career like lacey, she wasn’t as popular or in demand in the early years so zara was in school until she was 15. she actually came into her own there and was pretty popular, although she got into the horrible habit of dumbing herself down so that guys she crushed on would have to help her. anthea found out and went crazy. she was grounded for 3 weekends.

anthea took the eloise, amber, felicity and violet to see the spice girls and britney spears. that was their first experience of a concert and they all got to go backstage both times. for a halloween party, the four girls actually went as their favourite members; amber was posh spice, eloise was baby spice, felicity was sporty and violet was ginger.

eloise and felicity actually took zara and lacey to their first concert when the girls turned 14 (eloise was 21 and felicity was 18). they went to see miley cyrus.

by the time all of the girls were reaching late teens/in young adulthood, zara and lacey spent a lot of their time in los angeles filming, felicity and amber had separate modelling jobs, which left eloise and violet at home (even though violet was often at university). still, that gave them a lot of time to get closer. they always met up on a sunday for dinner and would go shopping together.

the girls used to scrapbook their weddings. they all bought notepads from a stationary store and did them in detail, making sure there were no crossovers. they planned for eloise to be zara’s maid of honor, zara would be lacey’s maid of honor, lacey would be violet’s, violet would be felicity’s, felicity would be amber’s and amber would be eloise’s, that way, nobody would be left out.

lacey went through a phase where she’d steal felicity’s clothes and go out in them. it led to massive arguments, especially when she’d stain or tear them from doing whatever it was she was doing.

when amber started dating marcus, lacey had a weird obsession with him and would always want to be around when he came over. this obviously irritated amber and she’d go into her room and close the door...which would lead to her getting into trouble with gerald, and then the cycle would continue.

violet and felicity had a tradition of going to coachella together for a few years.

working from canon, amber had her first boyfriend at 19, eloise had her first boyfriend at 25, felicity had her first at 15, lacey had her first boyfriend at 16, zara at 17 and violet at 20. amber had the longest relationship of the six and violet had the shortest, she definitely struggles in giving so much of herself to someone.

the worst christmas on record was when the twins were 13, violet was 15, felicity was 17, amber was 20 and eloise 21; anthea found out gerald had been having an affair and there was a huge screaming match in the kitchen. the girls spent most of the day up in their rooms before eloise snuck the other girls out the back of the house and drove them to her college apartment. they had a mini-christmas there. nobody really spoke of it since then.

when lacey was “sent away/died”, the family became VERY distant. eloise moved out permanently as did amber and felicity. violet spent most of her time in her university accommodation and zara would be home, but always in her room or hidden away.

the girls spoke in their own language when extended family came over so that they could bitch about them without them knowing :’)

LOVE LIVES & ROMANCE.

one thing that ties the girls together is that love and romance is a big thing in their lives and they all have their own struggles with it, but deep down want something true and happy.

ELOISE - struggles with shyness and rarely gives people the chance to get to know her. she’s insecure and can be quick to assume that people aren’t attracted to her. she dreams of a traditional love; getting married, having children and being content.

AMBER - amber attracts all kinds of guys and has always been able to have her pick. she’s often been referred to as the most beautiful sister and in a way, that’s given her unrealistic standards. she can be shallow too. however, in her mid-teens she started to realise she was gay but had no idea what to do with that information and has buried it.

FELICITY - spontaneous and bold, always makes the first move and loves the chase. she likes the idea of being wanted but not being tied down. though, the older she gets, the more she realises that she’s scared of being misunderstood and her non-committal attitude is a self-defence mechanism.

VIOLET - has an idealised view of romance. she gets all of her ideas from books and films. she was VERY invested in celebrities growing up and genuinely believed she’d marry her famous crush one day. now she’s twenty-something, she’s realising it’s not that easy and everybody falls short of her expectations. she’s a sucker for falling in love with ideas and doesnt exactly know what she wants.

LACEY - lacey loves dating and the early stages of relationships. her trust was broken pretty quickly after the sa when she was a child, though, and often views herself as not being good enough for commitment, hence why she’s quick to cut people off. deep down, she wants the opposite of what everyone thinks she wants; someone gentle and soft who’ll genuinely love and care for her.

ZARA - the most outwardly romantic. she falls in love with ALL versions of love and craves it. her ideal situation would be being with someone longterm and knowing that they get her, are patient and want her for more than her body. she definitely confuses sex for love and tends to find herself in situations where she’s used or degraded.

in canon, despite all of the girls struggling with romance and love, they ALL have the one person who is kind of “right” for them, even if they’re technically not together. for zara it’s danny and for lacey it’s lorenzo, the other girls may or may not have these!

New British comedy TV series from 2020: BBC, Channel 4, Sky, Dave, Amazon, Netflix

2020 in British TV comedy brought us Maisie Williams as a kickass survivalist in a pickle, and a new parenting comedy from the hugely talented Simon Blackwell and Chris Addison starring Martin Freeman.

To add to that, there was also a fresh batch of comedians playing exaggerated versions of themselves in self-penned sitcoms, including Katherine Ryan, Mae Martin, Sara Pascoe, Kayleigh Llewellyn, Lucy Beaumont and Jon Richardson.

Here’s the skinny on all those new shows and more. Here’s what arrived in 2019, and here are the new British TV dramas that arrived in 2020.

Breeders

After their excellent 2014 relationship comedy Trying Again, Chris Addison and Simon Blackwell (Veep, The Thick Of It) teamed up on a new series, this time about the trials of parenthood. Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard played parents in this ten-part half-hour comedy, a co-production between Sky in the UK and FX in the US. Watch the first trailer here.

Bumps

Available to stream on BBC iPlayer

A Comedy Playhouse commission for BBC One, Bumps comes from Psychobitches and Tracey Ullman’s Show writer-actor Lucy Montgomery (pictured) and The Life Of Rock With Brian Pern‘s Rhys Thomas. The half-hour pilot is a modern family comedy that centres on Amanda Redman’s character Anita, a divorcee in her sixties with two grown-up kids, who decides to have a third baby with the help of an egg and sperm donor. Playing Anita’s daughter Joanne is Lisa McGrillis (behind the brilliantly dim and tactless but very sweet Kelly on Mum), who discovers she’s pregnant at the same time as her mother.

Code 404

After 2019’s pilot, Sky ordered six episodes of this sci-fi comedy starring Daniel Mays (Line Of Duty, Vera Drake) and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire, The Virtues), written by Mongrels and Not Going Out’s Daniel Peak. It’s a buddy cop drama set in the near future, which sees crime-fighting duo DI John Major (Mays) and DI Roy Carver (Graham) first separated, then reunited thanks to the wonders of modern science. Series two is on its way.

Feel Good

Stand-up Mae Martin co-wrote her autobiographically inspired six-episode series with Joe Hampson, which formerly went by the working title Mae and George and is now called Feel Good. It aired on E4 in the UK and Netflix around the world, and follows Martin’s life as a comedian and recovering addict, and the complications of her new relationship with girlfriend George. Friends’ Lisa Kudrow guest stars. A second series is on the way.

Hitmen

Comedy double act Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins get in on the Killing Eve game as contract killers in this new Sky series. Unlike Villanelle though, these two are decidedly unsmooth operators. Their hits are, according to the press release, “inevitably derailed by incompetence, bickering, and inane antics.” Sherlock’s Amanda Abbington co-stars, along with Francis Barber and Johnny Vegas. Series two is on the way.

In My Skin

Kayleigh Llewellyn’s autobiographically inspired 2018 pilot is now a four-part comedy series for the BBC. It’s the raw but ultimately uplifting story of teenager Bethan’s attempts to conceal from her schoolfriends a chaotic homelife with a mother sectioned in a mental health facility and a dad in the Hell’s Angels. Intelligence

Available to stream on Sky and NOW TV

Last year saw Rob Lowe in Lincolnshire, now prepare for David Schwimmer in Cheltenham. The Friends actor and director starring in a six-part Sky One comedy as a “maverick NSA agent” working in the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters. He’s joined by series writer Nick Mohammed, in the role of an inept computer analyst tasked with tackling cyber-crime. Series two is on the way.

Kate And Koji

Filmed in Herne Bay, Kent, this six-episode ITV comedy stars Brenda Blethyn as Kate, the owner of a seaside café who strikes up a friendship with asylum seeker Koji, played by Jimmy Akingbola. Those two are joined by The Inbetweeners’ Blake Harrison, playing Kate’s nephew, and Meera Syal as the local GP in a timely modern story with a heart.

King Gary

Available to stream on BBC iPlayer

Murder In Successville and Action Team’s Tom Davis and James De Frond teamed up again to write and direct prime time BBC One sitcom King Gary, which debuted in 2020 and was swiftly recommissioned for a second series. You may have caught the pilot episode, which aired over Christmas 2018, introducing Davis’ character – London builder Gary King, a man-child who loves his family, his suburban community, and really loves a B.B.Q – his parents played by The Fast Show’s Simon Day and Doctor Who’s Camille Coduri, and his unforgettable wife Terri, played by the very funny Laura Checkley.

Meet The Richardsons

Airing on Dave and available to stream weekly on UK TV Play

Married comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont starred as heightened versions of themselves in Meet The Richardsons for Dave, written by Beaumont and Car Share’s Tim Reid. Inspired by Beaumont’s appearances on Richardsons’ Ultimate Worrier series for Dave, the series comically documents the couple’s parenting and relationship woes.

Mister Winner

Following a successful Comedy Playhouse pilot, Spencer Jones (Upstart Crow) returned as the hapless Leslie Winner for a six-episode series on BBC One. Joining Jones will be Shaun Williamson and Lucy Pearman, in a loveable comedy about “an eternally optimistic klutz with his heart in the right place”. If you’ve yet to see Jones’ excellent BBC iPlayer short series The Mind Of Herbert Clunkerdunk, get involved without delay.

My Left Nut

Coming to BBC Three is an autobiographically inspired three-part comedy-drama from Irish writers Michael Patrick and Oisin Kearney, adapted from their acclaimed stage play. Starring Sinead Keenan (Little Boy Blue, Being Human) with newcomer Nathan Quinn-O’Rawe, it’s the story of a Belfast teenager who discovers a lump on his testicle but finds himself unable to tell those around him. A relatable, entertaining teen comedy with an important healthcare message.

Out of Her Mind

An established name on screen and the live circuit, comedian Sara Pascoe is the latest comic to write and star in her own sitcom (joining the ranks of Roisin Conaty, Aisling Bea, Josh Widdicombe and more). Her as-yet untitled series is being produced for BBC Two by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s production company, Stolen Picture. It’s about “family, relationships and biology,” according to the press release, and will combine eccentric characters with surreal interludes and factual segments. Sandylands

Following on from 2019’s Isle of Wight-set family comedy The Cockfields, Gold has commissioned a second three-part original sitcom. This one’s also set on the UK coast, and tells the story of a successful Londoner who returns to her home town and reconnects with old friends and old crushes when her local businessman father disappears at sea. Sanjeev Bhaskar, David Walliams, Sophie Thompson, Hugh Bonneville and Natalie Dew star.

Semi-Detached

The pilot episode for comedy Semi-Detached, about a hapless fortysomething aired in January 2019, followed by a full series. It was written by actors David Crow and Oliver Maltman and boasted a strong comedy cast including Lee Mack, Ellie White, Samantha Spiro, Clive Russell and Patrick Baladi. The twist with this one is that all the action unfurls in real time.

The Duchess

In addition to her Netflix stand-up specials, comedian Katherine Ryan made a six-part autobiographical comedy for the streaming service. Though a familiar face on screen, this marks the first scripted series Ryan has written and executive-produced. In it, she plays “a fashionable disruptive single mother living in London”, inspired by Ryan’s own experience raising her daughter in the capital after moving here from her native Canada.

The First Team

Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, aka The Inbetweeners creators, have written a six-part half-hour sitcom for BBC Two. Formerly under the working title of Afternoons, it’s now called The First Team and details the off-pitch adventures of three Premier League footballers playing for a fictional side, “three young men who just happen to have a very stressful job in the public eye,” according to the writers. The cast includes Arrested Development‘s Will Arnett as the team’s eccentric American chairman, alongside Theo Barklam Biggs, Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, Jack McMullen, Jake Short and Chris Geere.

The Kemps: All True

Remember how much everybody loved that Bros doc? Well now BBC Four comedy is planning to capture that same lightning in a bottle with mockumentary The Kemps: All True, following the travails of another pair of pop star brothers in Spandau Ballet’s Gary and Martin Kemp. The one-off comedy from Brian Pern‘s Rhys Thomas will track the brothers as they record a new studio album. Read more about it here at the BBC.

The Trouble With Maggie Cole

Stream episodes weekly on ITV Hub

Commissioned in March 2019 by ITV under the working title Glass Houses is a six-part hour-long comedy series starring Dawn French, Mark Heap, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Vicki Pepperdine and more. It’s about the aftermath of a loose-lipped radio interview with French’s Maggie, the village gossip who spills her neighbours’ secrets on air. It comes written by Shameless and Benidorm’s Mark Brotherhood and aired on ITV1 in March.

Truth Seekers

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s latest collaboration is a comedy horror series for Amazon Prime Video. Filming began in September 2019 on Truth Seekers, which follows a group of paranormal investigator hobbyists who film their ghost sighting escapades for the online community, and stumble into some very strange business that could end life as we know it. There’s a great comedy cast including Pegg and Frost, including Susan Wokoma, Julian Barratt, Samson Kayo, Morgana Robinson, Kate Nash, Kevin Eldon and Malcolm McDowell.

Two Weeks To Live

Written by Cheat’s Gaby Hull, this six-episode Sky comedy is the story of misfit Kim, a young girl raised to survive in the wilderness, who re-enters society on a secret mission to honour her dead father’s memory. Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams plays Kim, who becomes entangled in a prank-gone-wrong plot involving gangsters, a bag of cash and the police. With Kim’s survival skills, don’t expect her to come quietly…

In all of her five years, Sophia didn’t understand Hogwarts. It was the 21st century, but Hogwarts was still living in the 1800s. No electricity. Just lanterns, candles, and other fire lighting objects. No WiFi or internet connection to connect her to her social media. Not even her phone worked asides from playing music she thankfully downloaded before she headed to her school. Even charging that was difficult as her parents only ever sent her back a portable charger once a month and it only lasted for 12 hours.

Oh, how her friends would be jealous if they knew while they were taking things like basic math and the ever hated anatomy classes, she was learning spells and curses, having wizard duels in class, and flying on brooms. Or how they would eat whatever the lunch ladies cooked or found in the dumpsters to serve, she dined like a princess eating whatever she wanted.

It was a world she never knew existed and probably wouldn’t have known if she didn’t get the letter 5 years ago. The letter that told her that the little tricks she knew how to do like changing her hair color and making things float were not as abnormal as one would think.

Sophia trudged down to the Great Hall for breakfast. Her hair a deep blue contrasted that of her yellow Hufflepuff uniform and bright yellow bow wrapped around her hair. Her headphones perched over her ears as she made her way passed the other students who were prepared to spend all day out. Her mind raced as she replayed the conversation she had with the Head of Hufflepuff professor. Though she didn’t want to, Sophia had a meeting to discuss her future career plans. It’s not that Sophia didn’t know it was bound to come up, but she saw the disappointed look on the Professor’s face when she declared what she wanted to do. Just like her parents, her head of house saw more in her, something that could move her to do great things. Which led to a plan for an intervention with the Headmistress and the thought only set Sophia on edge.

“Heyyyy it’s Sophy! MORNING!” Baekhyun shot up in his seat and waved as the others looked up.

Sophia shook the thought as she looked up at her friends. She made her way to them with her typical carefree smile that contrasted the blue in her hair, “Morning y’all.” She sat between Baekhyun and Minseok after Baekhyun hugged her. Minseok muttered a greeting as he quickly glanced at Sophia before going back to his book.

Chanyeol waved at her as he was heading over to the Slytherin table to his girlfriend while Yixing studied her. Baekhyun chatted away with Hailey who sat beside Yixing. “You okay?”

Sophia looked up at Yixing and watched his eyes leave hers and looked to her hair. She reached up to her hair in a feeble attempt to hide it, “Yea” she gave him a smile. “I’ve been practicing to control it,” she fibbed. Her hair was something she didn’t know if she would ever really control. During her time in Hogwarts, she had come to learn that she was not only muggle-born, but also a metamorphmagus. Though she could change other parts of her easily, like changing to look like Baekhyun or changing her nose to look like an elephant, her hair was one that would not change on command.

Yixing gave her a look she knew well as a ‘we’ll talk about it later’ that Sophia responded with a nod before turning back to the others. It’s not that Yixing’s heart wasn’t at the right place. He was like an overprotective brother she never had in her life. He was the one who made sure she wasn’t overwhelmed when she first learned of Hogwarts and the rest of the magic world. Yixing made sure she wasn’t bombarded with information in a week, he showed her around Hogwarts bit by bit and even a couple of hideaways that not many people knew about. Yixing was the one who made sure no one bullied her when Samantha accidentally blabbed Sophia being a muggleborn to a pair of gossiping Gryffindors. And, he was the one who made sure she got help during her quidditch games when she got hurt.

“Hey, you gonna eat that?” Baekhyun asked as he pointed at the bagel that was on a plate in front of her. Sophia looked at the bagel in surprise as she hadn’t moved to put the bagel on her plate. “Well are you?” He asked as he reached for it.

Sophia clicked her teeth as she smacked his hand, “Keep your hands off my food. There’s some there” she pointed at the pile of bagels, “stop trying to jack my food.”

Baekhyun shook his pain as it stung, “Well, the food looks tasties on your plate.”

“Oh really, are you saying the food on my plate doesn’t look good” his boyfriend, Damien, playfully pouted as he picked up a sausage patty. “I guess only Sophia has good taste.”

Baekhyun whipped around to his boyfriend with a panicked look, “No that’s not it! I just want you to eat and be healthy! It wouldn’t hurt if you got some meat on your bones, babe.”

Sophia’s lips tightened into a forced smile, “So you’re taking my food because I’m fat? You think I eat too much.”

“Wait--” he turned back to Sophia, “I didn’t say that either! You’re a perfect shape and if I wasn’t dating Damien, I’d ask you out.”

“Oh… so I’m stopping you from being with your one true love. Don’t let me stop you then” Baekhyun’s face paled as he looked back at his boyfriend who leaned away from him. He looked back and forth between his boyfriend and best friend before he dropped his head on the table with a groan.

Sophia smirked, “I think we killed him?” She looked at Damien as their smiles grew, “YES!” they high fived each other over Baekhyun. Sophia glanced to where Minseok was sitting only to see an empty spot. Her smile fell slightly as she looked around the Great Hall.”

“If you’re looking for Minseok, he headed to the library. He said it was too loud for him to study here” Hailey gave Sophia an apologetic smile.

She shook her head and reached for her bagel then took a bit. It was already sliced and smothered with her favorite cinnamon cream cheese and some slices of apple.

Minseok was no longer just the boy from her first night in Hogwarts who helped her through a panic attack, he was one of her best friends. Where Yixing was her overprotective brother and Baekhyun was her ride or die, Minseok was the one she didn’t want to leave her side. She dragged him to every group event even if that was in the Hufflepuff dorm. During the summers, they took turns spending the months at one another’s cities. During the holidays, their families would celebrate together with all the extended family they could gather. He was her rock. He kept her from falling apart. Minseok made her study guides for every subject imaginable, would study until the crack of dawn drilling spells in her head, and teaching her things that her professors didn’t teach. He was her teacher, her best friend, and the boy she fell head over heels for and it hurt.

Sophia’s chest hurt as she looked at the empty spot again. It was one-sided, this love of hers. It was something she had discovered last New Years Eve. Their parents let them go to London alone to bring in the new year. It was fun, the two ate different street foods they could find, played with sprinklers their parents gave them, and Minseok surprised her with a New Years Eve cruise on the River Thames where they got a close up to the fireworks. The two stood together, wrapped in each other’s arms as the cold air chilled them as they watched the fireworks. It was all so nice and without thinking, she leaned in--or they both did, Sophia wasn’t sure which it was, but before they had kissed one of the louder fireworks set off above them pulling them apart. After that night, neither of them talked about it again. It was as if it didn’t happen and to Sophia it was a regret she continued to hold.

“Soph?”

She looked up at Hailey and the two stared at one another’s eyes before Sophie sighed, “Okay, I’ll go see.” She stood up with her second slice of the bagel in her hand. She looked over at Yixing and smiled, “Thanks” she held up the bagel once more before she headed out the Great Hall.

“Hey.” Her heart skipped a beat as she heard the voice she wanted to hear. She turned to see Minseok leaning against one of the columns, his book held open in one palm. He shut the book and pressed it into his side as he approached her. “What made you feel this upset?” he asked, his hand reached out to the deep blue hair that rested over Sophia’s shoulder.

“Like I said--I’ve been practicing.”

Minseok’s eyes fluttered as he looked up to meet hers. Though his brow creased and there was a sad look in his eyes, his lips held a faint smile. “The one thing I love about your hair is that it is so much more honest than your words.” He released her hair by a few strands at a time before pulling away from her completely. “I have to get to class. If I don’t see you at dinner, I’ll send you an owl” and he turned away, his robe fluttered behind him and he headed to his class.

Sophia watched him leave as her hand touched the hair he held in his hand. She could feel the burning on her cheeks, “He loves my hair…?” She looked to see the strands in her hand turn pink. She clutched the strands as she tried to calm her emotions. The last thing she wanted was going around with pink hair all day.

The shouts of students woke her from her thoughts as she watched everyone who remained in the Great Hall rush out. “Come on, Soph! We’re gonna be late to Potions and we have a test!” Baekhyun yanked on her arm as he ran past her with a surprised Sophia and his complaining boyfriend right behind.

“I don’t get it-I just don’t get it” Baekhyun held up Sophia’s test paper in amazement. “You only just learned this stuff-- how are you so great? And not just in Potions, I have yet to see you fail a single test since our first year.”

Damien grinned as his arms remained wrapped around his boyfriend’s neck, “That’s because she has Minseok and Yixing teaching her everything she needs to know. They might as well be professors next year with the way they’re going.”

“That’s right, they’re in their last year, huh? I wonder what they’re gonna do” Baekhyun hummed.

Without missing a beat, Sophia replied, “Yixing was offered joining the English National Quidditch, but I think he’s going to try to become an Auror instead. He’s been asking Professor Longbottom about it and about getting connected to Harry Potter himself. Professor Longbottom was thrilled to refer Yixing to Harry Potter too.”

“What about Minseok?”

She shrugged, “I don’t think we’ve really talked about it... “ Damien noticed the smile leave her face. Sophia shook her head, “Anyway, I have to go, I have charms next. I’ll see you at dinner.”

“Wait! Your test!” Baekhyun hollered, but Sophia ignored him and rushed through the crowd of students.

Damien huffed as he let go of his boyfriend. A wave of annoyance rushed over his face as he clicked his teeth, “Idiot… Can’t you see she didn’t want to talk about it?”

“I know my best friend, babe. She probably just forgot.”

He hit Baekhyun’s upper arm, “Her hair has been blue all day, hasn’t it? Even if she can control it as she said she could, wouldn’t it have changed based on any strong mood she felt without her focusing on it?”

Baekhyun went quiet. “I should go talk to her…”

“Later. After class. We have Care of Mythical Creatures and I am not getting stuck cleaning their poop again because of you.”

That evening, Sophia skipped dinner and was alone in her bedroom studying up on her notes from class. Her knees were up with her notes resting on her thighs as she leaned against the bed frame. Her pencil was stuck in her messy bun as she read her notes quietly to herself. She heard the faint sound of tapping and she glanced around to see nothing. As she flipped her paper, she heard the tap louder against her window. Sophia straightened up as she placed her notes on the nightstand beside her and looked to see an owl with a letter in its mouth. She reached out and took the letter as she tried to catch a glimpse of the owl’s fur, but the moment the letter was removed, the owl flew away.

She shut her window as she pulled open the small envelope that had no name. She pulled out the letter and read the five words:

Come to the astrology tower.

“Does that mean now?” She stared at the note a while longer before she grabbed her long cardigans and a pair of sneakers. She walked out into the hall as if heading to the Great Hall, but instead took off in the direction of the astrology tower. She knew it could only be one of two people up there waiting for her. It was their secret spot that they invited her to. As she headed up the stairs, she began to hope. She hadn’t seen or spoke to Minseok much in the day, which given his schedule and house was understandable, but she missed him. She wanted to tell him about her day. The perfect score in Potions, the flawless accio spell she pulled off in charms, and the ride of a lifetime on a griffin. Her feet moved faster as she ascended the stairs to the astrology tower. She reached the top and was greeted with the sight of the stars. Sophia headed towards a set of rails as her eyes remained on the stars. They were perfect. From the height of the tower, there was a clear view of the stars and the crest moon that hung alongside them.

“Beautiful, right?”

Sophia nodded as she continued to look out at the sky. She took in a deep breath, her eyes shut as her shoulders slumped when she released the breath. “It’s peaceful.”

Yixing leaned on the rail beside her and gave her a crooked smile as she looked at him, “I know. That’s why I sent the letter. I figured you might need a place to just breathe and relax.” Sophia said nothing in response as a gust of wind blew past them. Yixing watched as her bun started to fall from it’s weak restraint. Her hair, as dark as the night sky in front of them, cascaded down to her mid-back. His eyes trailed back to her face, Sophia still wore her thick rimmed wide squared glass that she only wore in the dorms. They were situated perfectly at the bridge of her nose.

Yixing watched the side of her lips twitch, “You’re staring.”

He cleared his throat as he looked back at the sky taking a couple glances over at Sophia. “Did you want to talk about today? I know you had that meeting with our Head, what did she say?”

Sophia’s eyes casted downward at the darkness below them, “Future stuff. What I’m doing with life? The usual.”

“Right…” Yixing sighed, “I forgot they started that in fifth year. I did everything I could to skip it. It wasn’t until my sixth year that I had my meeting.”

Sophia laughed, “Now that, I can see.”

Yixing grinned widely, “No joke. I only did it because the Headmistress got involved and literally dragged me down the hall.”

“Where was I?! I feel like I missed a monumental moment! I would have recorded it for you--you know memories and stuff.”

He rolled his eyes, “Yea, memories. That’s what it would be for. It was one of those days you went out with Minseok to Hogsmeade.” He shrugged, “But your meeting. I don’t see how it could possibly go bad. Your grades are perfect, and so are your O.W.L.S., and I’m sure by next year, you or Chanyeol will be captain of the Quidditch team.”

Sophia rocked her hands on the rail as she looked at the stars once more, “Being a muggleborn, have you thought about having a normal life?”

“You mean as just a muggle?” She nodded. “Not at all. Knowing I’m part of a world that has magic, I want to venture further. I like magic and all the mythical creatures. If I wasn’t trying to become an Auror, I would go into breeding mythical creatures. I couldn’t ever go back to such a boring mundane life.” Yixing looked at her with a smile, “I feel like I have a purpose here. Don’t you? I mean, our parents aren’t wizards and by chance we are because of some ancestor. That’s cool.”

Sophia let out a breath as she thought about Yixing’s words. She knew what he meant. The odds of being a muggleborn was low and the fact she was able to cast spells and curses should be a blessing. So, why didn’t it feel like it? Why did it feel more like a burden than it did a gift? She should be like Yixing wanting to explore the world of magic after she graduated, but instead she wanted to get as far from it as possible. She knew her idea disappointed her Head of house and her parents, but she wasn’t going to give up her dream for some world that she had grown to know five years ago.

“Sophia?” Yixing called out to her, drawing her from her thoughts, “Can I tell you something?”

“Anything, of course” she smiled as she met Yixing’s eyes.

His typical half asleep expression was nonexistent as he stared at her. Any ounce of sleep he wore had vanished as he met Sophia’s gaze, “I love you.” Sophia’s mouth fell ajar as she processed his words. Yixing didn’t wait, “I have for a while. Maybe since my fourth year even.” He took one of her hands in his as he pulled her closer, “You’re beautiful and intelligent. Even when your hair gives you away, you still try to take on the world on your own and I love that about you. But, I want to keep you safe by my side and I want to explore more of this world with you.” His other hand reached up and caressed her cheek, “I don’t want you to have to force yourself feel one way or another around me. I want the rawest version of you. I love you and I want to make sure you always have a true smile on your face.”

Sophia hadn’t realized Yixing had moved closer to her, until she felt his breath roll over her lips. She could smell the mint of his toothpaste on his breath as he spoke. “Yizing…”

“Who is up--” Minseok froze as he stared at the two in front of him. Sophia pushed Yixing from herself as she looked at Minseok with wild eyes. “Sorry--” he stuttered as he backed away towards the stairs. His back hit the stairs rail, “I didn’t mean to interrupt. Make sure you lock up before you leave so the professors don’t catch you.” He stammered before he rushed out.

“Minseok! Wait!” Yixing reached for her wrist to stop her from chasing Minseok, but Sophia snatched her hand from his grasp. Her now white hair glistened under the light of the stars, “I’m sorry, Yixing… I can’t accept your feelings…” She looked back at the stairs where Minseok fled, “I think I love Minseok. I want to be around him and when I’m not I feel incomplete… And now, he just--”

“Go after him” Yixing interjected. Sophia looked up at him with concern in her eyes. He flashed her a smile, “You should go tell him how you feel. Go before he gets to his dorm.” Sophia paused for only a moment more before she fled down the stairs after Minseok. Yixing let out a sigh as his smile fell. His fingers brushed the front of his hair as his palm rested over his eyes. His head fell forward as his shoulders drooped and droplets of water fell before his feet.

Sophia returned to her dorm after an unsuccessful search of Minseok. She looked everywhere she could think of to find Minseok. She shut the door to see Hailey on her bed reading.

Hailey peeked up, “You got an owl. I left it on your bed.”

She dragged herself to the bed and grabbed the letter:

Sorry I didn’t see you at dinner. We had a meeting with the Slytherin Head Boy and Girl. It was a nightmare. I’ll tell you about it later, but I warn you, don’t try to prank them like you did to the Gryffindor prefects.

Since it is the weekend, can you leave tomorrow open for me? We haven’t had much time to talk. Just the two of us, okay? You can pick the place, so let me know where. Meet me at the Great Hall by 11:30. That should be enough time for you to wake up and get ready, yes?

Sophia quickly grabbed a paper and her quill as she wrote a quick response. She called her owl over to the window as she folded the note. “Take it too Minseok quickly, okay?” Her voice quivered as she sent her owl outside.

Minnie, tomorrow at 11:30. Don’t leave me hanging, okay? -So-so

As her owl flew away, Sophia’s eyes blurred with tears. She clutched the window seal as she sunk to the ground. There was a gasp as feet pounded on the wood of the floor. Hailey’s arms shot out and wrapped themselves around Sophia who was sobbing as loudly as possible.

“What’s wrong, luv?” Hailey whispered in Sophia’s ear as she combed through her nightly blue hair. “Talk to me, please?”

Sophia shook her head as she buried her head in Hailey’s chest. Her mind spiraled with the thought of Yixing and Minseok. The fear of her future… The feeling that she’s failing and disappointing those around her. Her lungs clawed at the air desperate for its life. Her heart felt like it was being torn apart into microscopic pieces. “Everything hurts… I just want it to stop.” She gasped out the words as she clung to Hailey. Sophia felt like the weight of the world was crushing her. It was just a bad day, she reminded herself, but even so the feeling only grew.

Hailey tightened her grip on Sophia. Fearing if she let go of her, Sophia would disappear from her sight. “It’s okay…” She kissed the top of her head, “Just let it all out, okay?” [Continued]

Cody’s SXSW talk transcript: part 1

So there we go that's the intro, so maybe you can, I mean, did you really come from a town called Southern Cross? It's like the most perfect Australian, like, you know ad?

I did yeah, um.

Is this mic working?

Is this on? Yeah, I grew up in Southern Cross. What was the question?

It was just about, you have a very, you came from, like, when we say small town, it was like not even a town, was it?

It was tiny, my parents still live there, well one of my parents still lives there. When I was growing up it was just under 300 people. It's like a very farming, mining, high suicide rates, very Australian Outback, like for those who know Perth, it's 6 hours inland from Perth by train, 7 by car, so it was tough. So that's about it.

So how does a kid that grows up in a town that small in the middle of nowhere end up getting to LA, where do you start, at what point when you were growing up did film, acting or television become something that you knew was a job and you wanted to do it?

I think I have to answer that in two parts. I mean the first one is that I knew I wanted to act when I was 5 or 6. I became very self-aware around 5 and I think the realisation for me was that everybody around me was always lying. And in a small country town, gossiping is a real staple and so what would happen is, you know, my mother's friends who whoever it happened to be, would all meet together and someone would leave and then everybody would start gossiping and I started to notice this in every circle in Southern Cross. And it was its own kind of network but nobody was telling the truth about how they were feeling and Australia is a very macho culture, they have a very standard definition of what masculinity is, and in the country, that's kinda like masculinity on steroids. Which is so stupid.

But I always found it to be really troubling and I remember at 5 or 6, having the awareness of everybody is acting all the time. I didn't know what it was, I couldn't put words to it, but that everybody was playing a game and that I saw the game really clearly? And nobody else seemed to. And that was where I first kinda started to realise that this was something that I was interested in. But when I was 13, well leading up 13 I would always watch really intense emotional films, but like with the (deepers in?), I'm talking like Cher in Moonstruck and Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice and Betty Davis in all about Eve, they used to have one movie, we had 3 channels, and they would have one movie which was the movie of the week and every day at 12pm the same movie would play. So you could watch All About Eve, 7 times in one week. And so I did.

And that's where it really started to form was with (Divas?) and strangely enough, and then when I was 13 I saw Cate Blanchette in Elizabeth and that was the first time I had a real clear understanding that she was not the Queen but it was so real that it was so visceral and that it made so much sense and the whole world was complete but I knew she was Australian and so she couldn't be this person and that was when I started to realise wait this is something you can actually do! Because before then, a Hollywood celebrity or an actor or a star was kinda like a, it's like a unicorn, you know, and they're born like that. And all of a sudden they're doing movies and that was their destiny and your destiny is to work on the farm. So that was when I really understood.

The second part of the question, Jesus Christ that was a long answer, so the second part of the question, or, the second answer is about how does a young boy from Southern Cross get to Hollywood, and I'll need years of therapy to understand it, I mean I'm still trying to figure it out. And obviously you know there was an action plan, they're working...this bag has my face on it? You should hold that up, that's (so hysterical?).

The whole talk, I'm trying to talk, and I'm staring at me. So how did I get on peoples bags?

So there was a chain of events that led up to it. But, I, the true and honest answer is, and I'm sure we'll talk about it more after this, but is that you know, it's still something I try to compute between nature and nurture and fate and destiny and work ethic and opportunity because I really don't believe in luck and for I always understood that i was born into, and I love my family very much, they're very dear to me, but I had always understood I was born into a situation, into a society, and into even a country in that point of time that was very difficult to expand outwards and that I was kinda doomed to a life that had been chosen for me, and I understood very early on that if I was going to break free of that I was going to have to work really, really, really, really hard and that meant working harder than anyone else and being really honest with myself and really embracing and accepting failure. And I failed a lot. I mean, I didn't start acting till I was 24, so I've been acting for 6 years.

Ingenious | BTS PrivateSchool!au

Genre: romance, angst.

Warnings: Bad language, violence, mental health issues, sex, alcohol

Snowflakes all around, like glistening gems falling from the sky, it would be a cosy Christmas for the students at Silver Creek; or at least the very few who had not been able to go home for the holidays.

Christmas had rolled around quicker than ever, exams being the main black hole of focus for the students. It felt, for those still left at school that the festive bug had not yet caught them.

Y/N, unfortunately, was one of the teenagers having to brave the cold weather in the dorm rooms accompanied by her close friend Sophie, a girl with money rooted in her blood. Like most of the pupils at Silver Creek Academy Sophie had brought her way in and often soured when teachers mentioned Y/N’s scholarship for outstanding intelligence and understanding in the art of languages.

24th December, Christmas Eve

“Y/N! Y/N! ONE DAY UNTIL CHRISTMAS! WAKE UP YOU BUTT”

“Ugh Sophie! Give me a break girl“

Ever since you arrived at Silver Creek a few years ago Sophie had made a point to wake the dormitory at the crack of dawn, regardless of the disapproving reactions she usually got.

“DID YOU KNOW THE BOYS FROM KNENNINGTON HOUSE ARE STILL HERE!?!? We’re not the only fifth years left!”

"Oh what Hobi’s friends?” You sat up straight to face the plump blonde girl sat on the end of my bed.

“yes those guys, but don’t touch they’re mine”

“So what’s the plan?” You asked, curious as to what ideas she had conjured up in true Sophie Sparks fashion and amused by her evident crushes on the boys.

She then explained how she had decided you would make your famous gingerbread cookies that you would then eat at dinner. Of course the lack of other students would make you visible to the Kennington boys who should come over for a delicious cookie. Ingenious really.

6pm,

“and then she wanted to ...”

“and there they are” Sophie interrupted whilst pointing at the boys walking in, laughing and smiling.

The Christmas spirit had clearly overtaken them in the form of ugly sweaters and cracker hats that fell as they moved. Sophie continued to stare at them as they sat down behind me.

“damn. Start munching bitch” she handed me a cookie and we continued to gossip about a certain girl in our dorm.

“HEY Y/N? Can I have one pretty please?”

You refocused from Sophie to Jung Hoseok; a bold and energetic boy that You had many classes with a few years ago, the class clown if you will. Thankfully you had remained close friends with him and his group throughout the past few years, much to Sophie’s dismay.

“Oh sure” You grinned at him and held out the biscuit tin.

“Hey! what about me?” Jimin, a dance major, appeared behind him.

“Be my guest” You say as they sat down.

It wasn’t long before the rest of their friends had sat down with us, chatting with us joyfully.

“Aren’t you the girl with the scholarship for languages and stuff?” Namjoon asked. Namjoon however, was the one not that I had never really spoken to before.

“Haha yes that’s me”

“oh wow, that’s really impressive. You’re in my English and Japanese class I think?”

“Thankyou, and mm yeah I think so, I’m usually too tired to take notice of the lesson let alone the people in there hahaha.”

“Well...you always impress me with your skills”

“awh thank..”

Sophie stood up sharply and stomped out of the dining room with a heavy sigh, mumbling rapidly under her breath.

“What’s going on with her?” Min Yoongi questioned.

“She always gets like that when someone mentions my scholarship.”

“oh what, because she’s rich and not intelligent like you?”

“Yeah”

“Y/N, are you the only fifth year girl left?” Kim Seokjin raised his eyebrow and motioned towards you with half a cookie.

“yeah, just me, Soph and a few hyper first years downstairs, who I’m refusing to babysit by the way, they can stay up all night for as much as I’m bothered, But I guess Sophie won’t be staying tonight if this situation goes down how it usually does”

“oh right, well if you want some company I’m very happy to come and I’m sure the other boys will too. All the teachers have gone home now anyway, we won’t get caught”

“But what about the younger girls?”

“We’ll make sure they don’t say anything don’t worry ”

“Are you sure? You really don’t have to do this Jin”

“Oh shut up, I’m not letting any girl be alone on christmas eve”

“Oh ok then, thank you” You smiled and offered him another cookie which he gladly took.

8pm,

“I’m going home” Sophie announced whilst picking up her designer suitcase and handbag.

“Ah so I gathered” You replied and sat on my bed.

“Y/N! Love Actually or Elf?” Hoseok burst through the wooden door with DVD cases in either hand.

“Bringing boys into the dormitory now are we?” Sophie tutted and push past Hoseok with her head held high.

“Damn” he remarked with raised brows.

“haha Love Actually, OF COURSE” replied and ran to the common room to join the rest of them.

By 10pm Y/N had fallen into a deep slumber against the arm of the well-loved sofa in the common room. The fires heat blazing against her skin and the unconscious caress of Kim Taehyung around her ankle in his still lap.

Only the sixth year boys were still awake, having a meaningful heart-to-heart about the past year. It had been one with lows, but also unbelievable highs that made each other and their families proud.

Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi and Kim Namjoon have decided they would be going to university next year whilst Jung Hoseok had decided to go travelling and explore his roots in South Korea amongst other places.

They laughed and drank their eggnog in high spirits as their eyelids began to feel heavier and heavier and heavier.

25th December, Christmas Day

You woke up to the unpleasant yet somehow adorable squealing and screaming from the first years downstairs.

“Merry Christmas Y/N” Taehyung whispered as he watched you wake up.

“Merry Christmas” You smiled and gave him a friendly hug. Although he returned a soft squeeze he did so with a mournful expression.

“What’s wrong?” You asked.

“The kids just remind me of how the parents stop caring when you get to our age. They just send you away and pretend you don’t exist for five years”

“Really?”

“Yeah. None of us have been sent a Christmas gift from our families since we left Korea 5 or 6 years ago”

“Awh, nevermind, I haven’t got anything either haha”

He chuckled and sat up straight, moving my legs off his lap, walking over the other maroon sofa and waking up his friends.

“What do you call a man who claps at christmas?” Jin holds the small peice paper up.

“I don’t know?”

“Santaapplause” he broke into hysterics making everyone else laugh with him.

Ring. Ring. Your phone sounded and everyone’s fun to stare at you.

“Answer it then. None of us get Christmas calls” Namjoon said with an undertone if jealousy.

You flip over your mobile and see who’s calling. Sophie Sparks.

“Merry Christmas!” She says overly seeetly and obviously insencire.

“Merry Christmas?” You question.

“Yeah, so my parents are, of course, disgusted by your behaviour yesterday and have contacted Mrs Hail to request you expelled. So honey, enjoy your Christmas but don’t forget that with grades like yours you’re bound to be gone in the next month”

”ugh! You bitch”

She hung up.

She wasn’t wrong though; you had been falling behind in a couple of your classes due to your want of a better social life. It was worth it but now it was probably going to bite back. The only choice you had now was to succeed far beyond academic expectations so that the school had no choice but to keep you.

“Who was that?“ Jimin asked.

“No one don’t worry”

“Ah ok. I think the grinch is on TV, you guys wanna watch?”

The room echoed with sarcastic “woo”s and “hell yeah”s from the other boys, you watched as Jimin’s expression dropped and he turned to pout at you.

“I’ll watch it with you” you giggle and pat the seat next to you, preparing for his descent.

“Thankyou” he mumbled and put his arm around your shoulders.

“Ummm Y/N has boys in the common room!“ you heard a young voice say.

The first years had appeared by the stairwell sporting their new attire, including mainly onesies and deelyboppers.

“Oh my gosh, my mummy says boys only want one thing and that’s what’s in your pants” another fresh faced girl joins in.

“Girls either shut up or go back to your dorms” You say.

“Nuh-uh we’re going to tell Mrs Hail about this” The girl replies.

“Too bad she’s not here, now do as Y/N says and go back to your dorms before I inform someone more important than Mrs Hail about your non-compliance. You’d get in a lot of trouble believe me.“ Jin warned the group of girls. They scurried off without questioning the older boy.

“WoW they’ve really got it in for me today haven’t they, thanks Jin.“

He nodded politely and continued to make his coffee in the remarkably petite kitchen.

11pm,

The rest of the day was full of merry banter for the teenagers at silver creek. Y/N had not once thought about Sophie’s threat as she had been much too occupied by the practical jokes and amusing conversations with the Kennington boys.

She had not even realised that snow had fallen and blessed her with a white Christmas until Jung Hoseok had taken her onto the balcony late that night after everyone had fallen asleep. It was no secret that Hoseok had a soft spot for Y/N; always chatting to her when she was sat alone and always succeeding in making her laugh or at least smile. She however never saw the other side to Jung Hoseok, always taking him as a cheerful and happy kind of man.

They sat there enclosed in the white fluffy blanket they found in the dormitory sipping their hot cocoas and discussing things like the future and the past, their friends and their wishes. She thinks that perhaps the last time they had spoken like this was years ago when they were barely 11 and 12. Of course, much had changed, he now wanted to be a professional dancer or performer, in the west end he said, and she wanted to be a writer or a teacher, she hadn’t decided yet. He reassured her that it’s only natural not to know at that age what you wanted to do for the rest of your life, always making sly jokes about the age gap of a year, painting himself as a much wiser man than he was.

“I must say it’s been a marvellous Christmas Y/N. I usually don’t enjoy it because it feels like I’m away from home, but this year I think I felt at home more with you and the guys than I used to with my own family”

No reply. Hoseok had been talking to himself for the past five minutes whilst Y/N had fallen asleep against him and the door behind them. Once again his half confession had been subsided by Y/N without her even realising. Christmas had drawn to a solemn close for Jung Hoseok.

It felt for him as though he was on top of a skyscraper only to be pushed off by the force of loneliness.
