"I looked through the peephole. Bill was waiting patiently on the porch.

I let him in without feeling either glad or sorry to see him.

He took me in with some surprise: the nightshirt, the wet hair, the bare feet. No makeup.

'Come in,' I said.

'Are you sure?'

'Yes.'

And he came in, looking around him as he always did. 'What are you doing?' he asked, seeing the pile of things I'd put to one side because I thought friends of Gran's might want them: Mr. Norris might be pleased to get the framed picture of his mother and Gran's mother together, for example.

'I cleaned out the bedroom today,' I said. 'I think I'll move into it.' Then I couldn't think of anything else to say. He turned to look at me carefully.

'Let me comb out your hair,' he said.

I nodded indifferently. Bill sat on the flowered couch and indicated the old ottoman positioned in front of it. I sat down obediently, and he scooted forward a little, framing me with his thighs. Starting at the crown of my head, he began teasing the tangles out of my hair.

As always, his mental silence was a treat. Each time, it was like putting the first foot into a cool pool of water when I'd been on a long, dusty hike on a hot day.

As a bonus, Bill's long fingers seemed adept at dealing with the thick mane of my hair. I sat with my eyes closed, gradually becoming tranquil. I could feel the slight movements of his body behind me as he worked with the comb. I could almost hear his heart beating, I thought, and then realized how strange an idea that was. His heart, after all, didn't.

'I used to do this for my sister, Sarah,' he murmured quietly, as if he knew how peaceful I'd gotten and was trying not to break my mood. 'She had hair darker than yours, even longer. She'd never cut it. When we were children, and my mother was busy, she'd have me work on Sarah's hair.'

'Was Sarah younger than you, or older?' I asked in a slow, drugged voice.

'She was younger. She was three years younger.'

'Did you have other brothers or sisters?'

'My mother lost two in childbirth,' he said slowly, as if he could barely remember. 'I lost my brother, Robert, when he was twelve and I was eleven. He caught a fever, and it killed him. Now they would pump him full of penicillin, and he would be all right. But they couldn't then. Sarah survived the war, she and my mother, though my father died while I was soldiering; he had what I've learned since was a stroke. My wife was living with my family then, and my children...'

'Oh, Bill,' I said sadly, almost in a whisper, for he had lost so much.

'Don't, Sookie,' he said, and his voice had regained its cold clarity.

He worked on in silence for a while, until I could tell the comb was running free through my hair. He picked up the white towel I'd tossed on the arm of the couch and began to pat my hair dry, and as it dried he ran his fingers through it to give it body."

So, even though Angel isn't technically brushing Buffy's hair in the first scene, it somewhat reminded me of this Bill and Sookie scene from True Blood, so I thought I'd put the two of them together. -shrugs-

True Blood and the Sookie Stackhouse series

During a quick browse of recommended shows on my Max streaming service, I saw a fan favorite, True Blood. I mean personally, I already am a creature of the night, and quite vampirish. I am attracted to vampire things within fiction and different lore surrounding them, and I also love a good HBO show. They always seem to be of the highest quality and usually well crafted. True Blood is no exception, albeit a bit campy, it perfectly captures the vampire craze within the 2000s-2010s, with great sights of gore and violence, and of course, crazy vampire sex, for all the fang-bangin enthusiasts.

I am almost at the end of season 1, while also listening to the audiobook releases of the Sookie Stackhouse series, of course with the two media pieces being based off eachother there are vast similarities, but in my head, they are just about two different entities. So far, I enjoy both, and I am onto book 3. So far everything I have consumed is better than that piece of shit vampire movie Queen of the Damned.

TRUE BLOOD

TW: Spoilers if from season 1 to 5.

Im watching true blood for the first time, already in season five and I'm tired of simple lead female characters. At least I can say that Sookie has grown from season 1 to 5, which is a huge difference compare to the vast majority (and that makes me love her, because that's what, at least, I seek when watching a series: people growing and changing along the way, despite liking them or not) BUT...she's still so...stereotypically lead female prototype which biggest problem is keeping her love interests above all, and, once she rejects them all (which isn't pretty usual quite frankly) everything becomes unbearable to the point that there's nothing good in her, no inner support to make herself inherently interesting. She has so much potential and I hope they end up giving that to us. Pam, for example, has much more depth, complexity and more greys that gives her LIFE. Even her brother Jason. I want that in Sookie: the trouble-maker or trouble-seeker, the always-fucking-things-up to the point that she should be used to it...All the characters grow from their fucked up shit but her because all she is is a sweet love interest who can mind-read with fairy blood and superpowers and who's also madly (and blindly) in love with two vampires.

ALSO (like Im pretty aware that I'm spilling out my 2023 opinion on a 2000s tv show and only watching the first 5 seasons, but that's all it is: a personal opinion, plus, I'm really enjoying the show) more LGBTQA+ please? More gays, more lesbians, more bisexual, trans, asexuals, and yes...I LOVE Lafayette, he's one of my favs. But c'mon, we're in the supernaturalish vampire world where they want to fuck everybody, and orgies, blood and murder and raw eroticism like...are you really telling me that there's barely nothing to none freaking LGBTQA+ couples, interests, scenes?

AND VERY IMPORTANT TOO: I need more werewolves for fuck sake, I love werewolves...I can't even understand how the fuck Sookie didn't fall for Alcide (like damn gurl, do you have EYES?). They're also pretty animalistic and rough in their own way and have a lot lof lore, they can add a lot too so don't be shy about it.

I've thought about this a lot but often I find that you'll find interesting and amazing worldbuilding in pieces of media that just... won't focus on it at all. I've read a few romance novels (I was getting desperate for what books to read at school) that had so many fun worldbuilding implications but nooooo the relationship drama was what mattered more (which is okay if you like those, it's just not my cup of tea) This happens in fanfiction too. The example that inspired this post gave so many interesting tidbits about how the autobots and Decepticons might differ culturally speaking (and even how the high commands have cool differences from their subordinates) but the fic was dark as hell and so... so much smut. Smut is great and all but I'd've loved to have learned more about how the factions have very different approaches to 'facing.

The Sexy Old Vampire

Eric Northman is one of the oldest vampires that I love! Since that adolescent stage of my life, I entered the world of adult series, True Blood was very new and daring for me, Eric was also unmatched.

And let's not talk about his change with Sookie, I was a little disappointed in the ending, but hey, nothing is perfect.
