Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering & hiking club @jkmhc on Sunday 02-09-2018 organized a one day trek to Sonsar Lake to the famous and exhilarating Pahalgam in which a record breaking 80 Trekkers participated and all the participants reached the Lake and completed the trek. The trek was lead by team leaders Mr Sunny Sajad Hyder @sunnysajadhyder and Sayyed Tahir @str_adventures. Kudos to all the participants especially to Tayiba Gulnar and Mr Adnan an 13 year old boy from Hilltop educational institute who completed the trek defying all odds. **Trek at glance** Route: Starting from- Chandanwari - Pisoo Top - Jojibal-Sonsar Lake Total time Duration: 7.5 hours Total height: 3700 mts Total distance: 24 kms Trek Grade: Medium-Difficult The Trek was well organized. Thanks to the participating Trekkers and special thanks to Club President Mahmood Ahmad Shah for making arrangements and selecting this trekking route. The Trek was successfully completed within the limited hours although there were chilly winds in on the lake side but didn't mould our spirit and everyone had a great day. Yesterday for the very first time, I heard the name “Chester Bennington” when my dear friend Seun Akappo rang me up. I got to learn that Chester died by committing suicide. Very tragic. Although I did not know his name, I was once addicted to the music Linkin Park produced. All it takes is a trip down memory lane to remember how I had songs like ‘Somewhere I belong’, ‘It’s Easier To Run’, ‘Breaking The Habit’, ‘In The End’, ‘Crawling’, ‘From The Inside’ and ‘What I’ve Done’ on repeat. Reflecting on the death of Chester, I can’t help but hear the words he once sang: “I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter”. Heart wrenching. Regardless of what he meant when he sang those words, I can’t help but see them within the context of his death now. I think the saddest thing about Chester’s death is the question: where will he spend eternity? Chester was a beautifully gifted musical creature. He enjoyed a great deal of success and popularity and got to live ‘his dream’. But the important question now is where he will live his reality. The sad death of Chester gives us all, Christians and non-Christians alike, another sad but necessary pause to reflect on what really matters ‘in the end’. I can only imagine how many times Chester braved the storm and overcame the urge to end his life. All the things which had previously helped him overcome, failed in this particular instance. In Jesus there is an assurance of a certain kind of peace; the peace of God which transcends all understanding. It can only be found in Jesus Christ and its purpose is to guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7). I would go as far as saying that what Chester needed above anything else to avoid this tragedy, was the peace of God at that very moment. God’s peace would have transcended his despair and decision to end his life. Stop at nothing to be used by God, to reach the Christians and non-Christians you know. It could be through your prayers, persistent preaching of the gospel or living an exemplary life. They need to know what a friend we have in Jesus. How I wish that all humanity would yearn for Jesus. That we would all embrace the words of this song: “And when I am alone Oh, and when I am alone And when I am alone, Give me Jesus. And when I come to die, Oh, and when I come to die And when I come to die Give me Jesus. We Are Sponge-beings // Part One //

One of the things which greatly hindered my growth and satisfaction in Jesus was carelessness with my exposure. Time and time again, I kept undoing my exposure to Godly truths, with exposure to content which was mostly contrary to the bible and not emphasizing Jesus.

My entertainment diet did not reflect the truth about newness through Christ in my life. This contradiction grew an uncomfortable lump of guilt in my heart which became increasingly difficult to ignore. I was addicted to profane Hiphop music, TV series and other forms of entertainment. I was scared that I would be bored to death if I let them go! It took the grace of God for me to finally confront this issue. I had to ask myself some hard questions.

What does the content I enjoy, say about what I love the most?

If you were to ask yourself this question, would your answer be Jesus Christ? Mine wasn’t. Yet, I claimed to love and desire Jesus above all things. We sing songs which if we are conscious of, would bring conviction to our hearts. It is one thing to say that we have surrendered all to Jesus and another, to embrace the practical implications of such a declaration.

My unfiltered exposure was costly. I look back and wish I had known to redeem the time by feeding my mind with the scriptures and godly resources. Many mistakes I made in the past were not made in ignorance but were aided by a lack of persistent reminders and caution, which a daily serving of the Bible and a gospel saturated mind-space would have guarded me from. I am deeply grateful that God turned me around.

What we give ourselves to, really matters. We all have sponge-like tendencies which make our interactions and immersions transformative. What we feed our minds and hearts becomes what shapes our behaviour.

The Bible gives us a crucial command: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

Will you obey this command? Will you take the necessary steps to comb through your entertainment menu and put filters where necessary?
