Oh, how I hope February 27, 2015 isn’t the last #MisonFingersFriday pulled from the latest episode! Fingers crossed and #RenewSleepyHollow and all that!

Tempus Fugit had some great handporn, but less than you might think—because back in 1781 Ichabod Crane’s hands weren’t as manic as they are in present day. He barely did the finger-pointy thing at all, for example. Tom has spoken many times about how he uses Crane’s hands to display Ichabod’s tension and confusion in modern times. One need only notice how much calmer his hand motions were in this episode to see how true this is. And the best handporn came thanks to … a cell phone. You could say “again!” but that would be inaccurate. We’ve seen phones in Crane’s hands countless times (just look back in this blog), but this time it was different. He wasn’t holding a phone, he was holding something mystical and magical, and it showed—in the way he held it, in the way he interacted with it (“slide to unlock”). It was brilliant.

That Tom Mison. He’s damned good at this acting thing, and it was never more evident than in this episode. 

(And if you’re wondering why there’s no screen shot of the musket loading from the beginning of the episode, it’s because I’m certain those aren’t Tom’s hands—they’re too rough and the nails are groomed differently. Not that I study his hands or anything. Oh, wait, yes I do!)

Ah, what to do for #MisonFingersFriday on March 6, 2015, now that the long, dark hiatus (fingers crossed!) has begun? Well, my hard drive has a good number of handporn gifs housed on it, so why not Moving Mison Handporn? And so it shall be. He’s such a handtalker—and we are most grateful for it.

Why do you love working with Tom? He’s a fine actor. He’s also a very charming fellow. And we also have a shared experience—we both have stage backgrounds. And he’s English and I’m Australian, so there’s always a bantering going on. I mean, I’ve worked in England. I love it there. But the basic thing is, we fight about rugby and cricket, and our appreciation of the royal family. All sorts of things.

That the Americans don’t care about. Not at all. That’s fun. It’s like having a reference point.

Do you think that Tom is like his character in real life? Gee, that’s an interesting question. It seems to me that Tom’s a very sensitive man. He’s a little bit otherworldly, really. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. He’s also a magnificent looking man. [He’s] the absolute perfect fit to play that resurrected Englishman, and he plays it to a T. The way that he and Abbie have their misunderstandings about language and manners and things is hilarious. I still think it’s the best part of the show, frankly.
