Did you know that these two historical figures were friends and allies in the struggle for civil rights? In fact, Kochiyama was at the Audubon Ballroom the night Malcolm was murdered and rushed to his side as he took his last breaths. . Kochiyama became an activist after her father was detained and she and her family were imprisoned for being Japanese. She continued her liberation work until the end of her life, at age 93. . Malcolm, later known as el-hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was a minister and human rights activist and was assassinated at 39 years old. In October, over 100 #Cambodian Americans were rounded up for deportation. Most were detained and held at the #Adelanto immigrant prisons near Los Angeles. The majority of these individuals facing deportation came to the US as refugee children. This is one of the largest round-ups #SouthEastAsian American communities have seen.
