Hey, just as a curiosity why did you choose to keep your dog intact? I just saw your post on being annoyed by the intact male dog, while yours was in heat. Where you planning on breeding her? Or is it an ethical consideration? I just don’t know many people who don’t spay/neuter, and would like to know why you chose not to. Thanks, I really hope this doesn’t read hostile or anything, and I promise im not trying to start a debate

Hello, no it doesn’t sound hostile no worries!

It’s mostly an ethical consideration (if that’s the right word for me personally seeing no benefit for my dog). Also legal, because technically you’re not allowed to spay/neuter your dog in Germany without it being either medically necessary or the only way to prevent the dog from reproducing. If we went to our vet and I wanted her spayed, he’d not do it without talking to me extensively about the subject first, though from what I hear it’s still common enough for vets here to not ask a lot of question. But yeah, you meet a lot of intact dogs in Germany, even rescues may choose not to spay/neuter

And while some cancer and other health risks go down after spaying/neutering, others go up (especially if the spay/neuter happens very early), which for me is a big factor and means I just don’t see a benefit that’d convince me to do it. I lost my last, neutered dog to bone cancer - one type of cancer that studies suggest becomes more common when the dog is spayed/neutered, though of course it may have been completely unrelated

I definitely don’t plan and never have planned on breeding my dog. I don’t want to breed dogs in general (to begin with I don’t have the money or knowledge) and I’d never breed this dog in particular, due to all her behavioral problems. I love her a lot but she has the chill of a volcano and the survival instinct of a fictional lemming lol

If it ever became medically necessary (or if I had doubt I can prevent her from reproducing) I’d of course spay her in a heartbeat but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that won’t happen. The heats are annoying but they’re only about every 8 months and mostly just inconvenient (because of what they mean for walks)

Hey just as a curiosity, and because I am considering buy a ball python eventually, do you have and breeders or places in particular you would recommend? Your post about people trying to buy you snakes made me think to ask you, but I am definitely not asking to buy your pets or even pets that look like yours. I'm sorry that happened to you ( and I would have been pissed, were I in the same situation) I hope this doesn't sound too off color

No worries friend! I usually just look for whichever morph I am wanting at the time, and then do research on the breeders that have them available :) There are fauna websites and facebook groups where you can find good and bad reviews of just about everyone out there! :)
