reading relative dissonance, in chapter 9 we see Tails side of choosing to save Sonia, Manic and Sonics world--the failed attempt to get through, his breakdown--while knowing he can never go back to his and was just wondering how everything happened on his Sonic's side?

Since I just answered another "Relative Dissonance" question, I'll jump ahead to answer this one real quick, too!

I've got a story in the making for Sonic's side of the events that picks up from when Tails vanishes through the portal and carries through until the end of the fic where they reunite, so we'll get to see a bit more of what happened on his side and what he was trying to do to find Tails before he crossed paths with Miles :)

I originally wanted to have sections of the fic that did bounce between the two dimensions after the flashback chapter, so that we could see our Sonic running himself ragged trying to find where Tails could've ended up, but I had to pare some stuff down in order to meet the deadline and the plot ended up feeling more streamlined to just stick with the Robius dimension the whole way through anyway.

For now, it's pretty safe to imagine that he was silent as the portal closed and Tails didn't appear. It probably scares and worries Knuckles and Amy, how still and unreadable he is. He eventually goes back to the Mystic Ruins, even though no one thinks he should be alone, but he needs to be. And it's there that he lets it all sink in.

And when the tears finally fall, they're not for himself. They're for the guilt he knows his brother holds in his heart, for having to make such an impossible choice no kid his age should have to make, and for the fact Tails will live the rest of his life never knowing that Sonic's already forgiven him for choosing someone else.

Top 5 most beautiful pixel-based games? :)

5) Batman and Robin. Not a game I personally played, but it squeezed the Genesis to a pulp with its incredible 3D effects. The soundtrack is also a technical marvel: this game really tested the console's limits.

4) Order of Ecclesia. Silky smooth, impressive 3D effects for the DS, and the scenery is breathtaking: sometimes I don't want to leave Wygol Village because of that beautiful cloudy sky <3

3) Sonic Advance 3. This game is absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic colors that make the world dreamlike and adorable animations for all characters!

2) Mega Man X4. Jawdropping all around. You just know Web Spider's stage was made to impress. Too bad they had to cut corners for X5 and X6...

Symphony of the Night. What else :P it's so detailed that the castle feels like a real, alive place.

Special shout out to Super Metroid, which also has a world that feels alive...

Bloodlines, which is a graphical flex from start to finish...

Ristar, which is an underrated gem on all fronts...

and Harmony of Dissonance, with its THE COLORS FEEL SO RIGHT <3

Plus Sonic Mania if we count retraux games! It does capture the spirit of pixel games from the Saturn era perfectly :D

Sonic Frontiers sold 3 million copies.

For comparison’s sake, Sonic 06 sold 800k, Sonic Unleashed sold under 2.5 million copies, Sonic Colors sold 2.1 million copies, and Sonic Generations sold 1.8 million copies. Sonic Lost World sold 700k and is one of the lowest selling main games in the Franchise and yet the Zeti are prominent in the comic. Sonic Forces sold a pitiful in its first week and we may never know exactly how much Sonic Forces actually sold(and it having 5 million plus on players on PSN+ is not any indication of a sale since it was free.) Yet somehow the comic takes place directly after Forces. Sonic Mania sold just over a million in case those hardcore Sonic classic fans want to open their mouths. While I’m at it, Sonic Adventure sold 1.3 million and SA2 sold 1.7 million. Sonic Rush sold 1.3 million and its sequel,which suffered after 06 tarnished Sonic’s reputation, sold 300k. The first Sonic game sold 15 million copies and before Retro fans start talking shit, note that is the only game in the franchise that sold that amount and it was in the golden age of gaming. You could sell a wet fart in an Nintendo cartridge and it would have made a million easy. Sonic 2? 6 million. Sonic 3? 1.03 million. Sonic and Knuckles? 1.3 million. Sonic CD? 1.5 million. Shadow the Hedgehog? 2 million. And Sonic Heroes and probably the biggest offender as to why Sonic Team stopped giving a shit about quality or effort and more about that Christmas grind? 3.41 million in 2 years.

Sonic Frontiers sold like gang busters in the couple of months it’s been out.

If you think Sage or any Frontiers elements won’t be referenced or be in the comic, you are bugging. Especially given that one of the main writers of the game writes for the comic. If that’s what is keeping you from saying IDW Sonic is on the same canon as the games and not what Iizuka says or what Flynn has stated several times, you are bugging. You are kidding yourselves if you think IDW can’t possibly put in those elements from the game in their comic.

If you don’t consider Tangle or Whisper to be game character in spite of them appearing in two mobile games that have been downloaded and played more than any Sonic game and have been created with the help of Sonic Team’s own character designer, fling yourself into the Nile River and cope and seethe. Tangle and Whisper have merchandise in the Sega Shop.

TailsTube shorts? Written by Flynn. That little Amy Rose Tarot Card set that is coming out soon? Written by Flynn with art created by one of the many IDW comic artists. This comic series has well over 50 issues including 4 different 4 part miniseries. It sold out in Japan! It’s consistently IDW’s top selling comic beating both the Transformers and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. It has sold over 10,000 copies an issue in a world where comics aren’t widely recognized unless it’s in the Marvel or DC. What they said in the beginning about it being diverged from canon no longer applies. Shit changed. It’s a new goddamn world. IDW Sonic is the only medium that actually uses your beloved obscure characters like Silver and Blaze. Like Cream. I don’t know what Flynn has done to make you turn up your nose at him but get over it. And the days of Sega pimping out Sonic to whatever Western media content creator and not caring what they churn out are over. The only exception to this is the movie verse(and because Iizuka has explicitly said it’s in a different canon)and honestly I have a tougher time trying to grasp how Sonic Prime is canon than I am with IDW. But regardless, it’s a new day. You are in a renaissance of Sonic and for once Sega gives enough of a shit about lore to want to make it all gel together and avoiding SATAM or Sonic Underground or Sonic the Comic or Archie Sonic the Hedgehog. Get the fuck over it.

I just finished re-reading Relative Dissonance again (I love all your Sonic works so so much💛💛💛) and it got me wondering about a couple things!

Do you have any headcanons on how UG!Sonic and UG!Miles grow closer after the ending of the story??

Do they do similar stuff to UG!Sonic with Tails, like riding on top of the van together etc.? Or do they have their own dynamic?? Also I’m curious about the dynamic between Miles and Sonia/Manic👀

And the other thing, we know Robotnik got yeeted into another dimension and isn’t dead..will he make another cameo in any of your future fics?? And what would you say he’s up to at present?👀

I'm delighted you like "Relative Dissonance" so much! I'm so proud of it and really look forward to playing around with it again one day ❤️ But definitely happy to answer questions in the meantime!

Yes, UG!Sonic and UG!Miles will eventually be as close as any other Sonic and Tails across the multiverse, but of course their dynamic will feel natural and specific to them. It helps that they both impacted each other in a way prior to Tails even coming to that dimension, but music is definitely something that bonds them together.

Back at their storage unit, they end up cutting into unit next to them and turning that into a smaller scale version of Miles's workshop, as well as a place for him to sleep. When they're not on the road, he's usually working in there while the triplets practice, jamming along like he used to with his recordings, but he'll come out sometimes to watch them. Sonic will also hang out in the workshop and test out ideas for new songs on Miles, to get an opinion from his "number one fan" ;P He strings up a hammock in the corner as a place for him to sleep inside, instead of always being on the roof or isolating himself in the van. Sonic and Miles go on scavenging adventures together and they eventually take on a project to build a working plane so they can see and help more of the world as it starts to repair itself. It's not the Tornado or the Cyclone, but something all their own.

Miles is pretty independent, which Tails was too, but unlike Tails, Miles doesn't trust as easily. He's pretty closed off at first, wary of disrupting his place within the sibling set and feeling like an outsider. He hasn't needed anyone for so long. He doesn't want to depend on them because it will hurt when they let him down or leave him. He's pretty similar to Nine in some ways and can come off as a little abrasive at times, but so can UG!Sonic. But Miles still has a softness to him and does care deeply about what the triplets think of him, even if he tries to hide it.

Miles is a good listener and he pays attention to every detail when they talk to him. He makes little upgrades to the triplets' tech wherever he can. Nothing too obtrusive the way Tails did, just small, almost invisible quality of life upgrades. Sonic will tell him he doesn't have to earn his keep, that he can stay as long as he wants to, but Miles will deny that that's what he's doing.

Miles and Manic of course get to bond over their shared love of mechanics. Manic gets to move his workbench into Miles's workshop and they'll work together on projects occasionally (just not the plane, the plane is for Sonic and Miles only and Sonic is very middle child about it xD). Sonia and Miles are slower to connect, but when they do, their dynamic will very much be like one of them could murder someone and the other would help them hide the body. I mean, all the triplets would, but Miles and Sonia would be the ones to want to protect Manic and Sonic from whatever mess they got involved in (and honestly, are probably trying to keep them from making things worse, lol).

Where Tails made the triplets aware of what exactly was missing in their lives, Miles fits into that empty space perfectly. It was always meant for him. He's not a replacement for Tails at all, though it takes a bit of getting used to for all four of them. There are some growing pains as they adjust to one another. But whenever it seems like Miles is feeling overwhelmed and overcrowded - Sonic will take him for a run. And they can go as fast and as far as they want, knowing there's still a home waiting for them when they're ready to come back.

As far as what happened to Robotnik, I haven't decided yet what else might be in store for him! I left it open-ended intentionally. He might not have ended up in a dimension that supports organic life. Or maybe he's in the original Underground universe now and is bent on getting revenge on those hedgehogs and their little fox, too! His story may or may not be over. All I know at the moment is that he's definitely low on my list of priorities for what I'm able to devote brainstorming energy to xD So if he is up to anything, we might not know for a while.

I think there is something to be said about how the tower in Entrance A hosts a small, secret chapel complete with a stained glass window illuminating the place, but the latter was replaced in Entrance B by a globe, a symbol of secular science and knowledge that nevertheless shrouds the room in obscurity.

Oh, and this desecrated secret chapel hosts one of Dracula's Relics. The Rib even, when bones are the most classic holy relics.

I love exploring these castles and catching the smallest details.

ig i liked prime but my main complaint would absolutely be how it sidelines actually interesting characters in favor of more generic fighting. like in s1 shadow obviously but in s2 nine is relegated to background technobabble mostly and the scenes he has ARE impactful for his character development but he really only comes back in ep7. and shadow is AGAIN sidelined for basically no reason. he has ep1 to Exposition and comes back ALSO only for the season finale. and rusty has great development at the beginning of the season with the pirates and black rose that really capitalizes on where she left off at s1, but then she's also stuck in the pirate dimension and can, AGAIN, only come back for the finale.

anyway yeah can we have less fight scenes actually. it felt like CONSTANTLY characters had to run off and buy time so only sonic can do something actually relevant. it really slows down the pacing of the actually good moments and the chaos council fights are the least fun part about them. i honestly feel the chaos council works best when they're not talking to sonic at all. their best scenes are all just bickering with each other, because they play off each other well, but terribly off anyone else. also the baby is the worst one. no competition.

chaos sonic is the MOST fun antagonist of the season. and he is here for. two episodes. yeah okay.

anyway. yeah. sonic prime is good and i like it but a lot of characters r one note and get too much screentime for how bland they are and the actually cool characters get a scene here and there and only converge to make the finale good.

considering the finale i do hope it hones in on the dramatic elements. like obvs how's the finale gonna affect sonic, how does sonic facing comeupance for his mistakes affect his dynamic with shadow, can shadow interact with LITERALLY ANYBODY besides sonic. like ever.

i will say dread was amazing this season. no complaints. he gets a decent amount of focus but he's actually fun in how horrid he is and only gets worse. he's like that bitch from lord of the rings. my precious type beat. fantastic. why the fuck did they cut the dread v knux fight though that would've been actually cool.

there is a trend in modern avant garde music to explore like dissonance and grating noises and that whole area of sonic texture which is normally avoided because it is almost fundamentally un-musical in nature, and i think it would be a great gag to open a restaurant that did the same thing for fine dining. separate the people who want a nice meal from the people who appreciate real art
