Chosen: I'm Still Standing. - Taron Egerton (i know the original song is from Elton John but i like that version); or Runaway. - Aurora.

Dark: Candle Queen. - Ghost and Pals; or El hijo de Hernández. - El cuarteto de nos.

Orange/Second: High Hopes. - Panic! At The Disco; or Bones. - Imagine Dragons.

And their relationship in general sounds like I Can't Decide from the Scissor sisters or Family Jewels From Marina.

Here are some songs I think fit the movie ‘the substance’ and why. Also this is nothing groundbreaking so don’t expect any huge revelations lol. Also spoilers:

The perfect drug - nine inch nails. Sounds a lot like Elisabeth talking to Sue, begging her to share their time.

Lyrics that fit:

“And I want you/ you are the perfect drug”

“Without you it’s not as much fun to pick up the pieces.”

Girl, so confusing - Charlie XCX & Lorde. This one has been said before but it feels like Charlie’s part is sue, and Lorde is Elisabeth.

Lyrics that fit:

Pretty much all of them but imagine if they didn’t work it out on the remix lol.

The other woman - Lana del Rey. Sue agonizing over the fact that she might be the “better” one, but cannot live without Elisabeth.

Sympathy is a knife - Charlie XCX. Sue rationalizing not switching back to Elisabeth.

it would be sweet, if his body heat wasn’t the same as an elephant’s. he’s sweltering, and your shoulder sticks to his chest as you try to move away. osamu practically whines as you do. “stop leavin’ meeeee.”

a blast of heat envelopes you as he tries to pull you close again, and you let out a huff. “m’not leaving you, ‘samu, i told you, it’s boiling in here,” you tell him, hitching a leg over his hip to get some air. “s’not my fault,” he mutters petulantly, his big, hot hand reaching over to rest on your leg.

this boy…!

you give another huff. not even thirty seconds later, there’s a low snore that rumbles behind you. “how are you even asleep?” you whisper incredulously, turning to see his peaceful expression. “m’holdin’ ya,” he mumbles sleepily in reply. he inhales deeply, breathing you in. “i love ya.”

guess you can’t be mad about that.

I will admit, it's a little embarrassing since you can easily see the patterns of what I've been listening to for the past year or two. I swear I listen to more than just videogame OSTs, these songs just jive well with the story and I often find lyrics distracting when brainstorming scenes. Regardless, the music I listen to is such an important part of my creative process and some of these songs really defined the scenes I now have locked in my head. So I figured it was only fair to give them the credit they're due.

I will continue to add to this playlist, and will note in comic updates when one of these songs is applicable!

college barista james falling in love with college radio host regulus through song.

james tunes into the campus radio every tuesday night—not because he’s really into finding new music, but because regulus is the voice behind it. regulus’ show is all late-night jazz, obscure indie tracks, and that smooth, low commentary that james could listen to for hours. the first time james hears it live, in person at the café, he nearly spills the iced latte he’s making all over himself.

he isn’t completely pathetic, though—he flirts a little, drops hints here and there. memorizes regulus’ favorite drink so it’s always waiting for him when he walks in. asks about why his favorite songs are his favorite. still listens every tuesday as he falls for him more and more.

james has never called into the show—he wouldn’t know what to say—but regulus’ voice still fills his dorm every week.

one night, regulus runs a quiet segment where listeners can request songs and share a few words. james, maybe a little tipsy from the cheap wine he and sirius scored by charming the lady at the corner store, finally decides to call in. he keeps it simple, asking for a song he knows regulus loves—"the only love song he can tolerate," as he once told james. when “the boy” by the smashing pumpkins starts playing, james hears regulus laugh softly into the mic, a sound warmer than any wine. “someone out there has good taste,” regulus says, and james feels his heart skip.

on air, regulus doesn’t let on if he knows it’s james, but the next day, as james makes his usual coffee, regulus gives him a small, knowing smile—like he just might.
