Where the Wind Rises | A Sonamy Fanfiction for Sonamy Week 2024
Sonic has a hard time understanding what it means to have a home. He worries that he might be letting too much life pass him by, living free at the sacrifice of, perhaps, something more. However, Amy Rose, one of the very few constants in his life, and perhaps the only constant to somehow understand and respond to his every move, finds the perfect way to show him just how much he has both.
This is a story about love that persists beyond physical boundaries.

Guess what surprise both me and @saltynsassy31 cooked up? It’s nothing really. Just an add on to Sonic Prime fanfic we decided to collaborate on. No biggie. Correction! You most definitely can come into our restaurant and serve yourself to this meal with different flavors of emotions. What are they? That’s for you to uncover. We both put our own ideas and mixed them into this dish for you. Enjoy!
For safety reasons we decided to private it on AO3, so you’ll need an account to read it there. But don’t worry, if you want to still read it, here you go!
The Little Things
Summary: Have you ever felt a weight on your shoulders? A tingling sensation throughout your body? A lump in your throat? You get the point. Well, a certain blue hedgehog hero gets the worst of it and feels as if he can’t tell anyone. Does he eventually find someone who can help? Let’s find out.
It was very early in the morning, around 11:00 when a group of friends defeated their greatest foe named Dr. Eggman. It was earlier than they usually fought. Not that it mattered much as the team would be fighting him the very next day after he recovered from his recent defeat. Sometimes Eggman bounced back quicker and attacked twice in the same day, but even a villain needed his rest. It’s become routine at this point, which neither complained about. The evil genius content in finding ways of improving his inventions and the heroes just happy to bask in each other's company. For as long as they were together, every adventure was a special one. They wouldn't have it any other way.
Especially a certain blue hedgehog.
After the battle, everyone went their separate ways. A hero, known as Sonic, went with his friend. A two tailed fox named Tails who was known for his incredible intelligence and inventions. Sonic wanted to crash at his lab on the other side of the island, Green Hills. Tails didn't question why Sonic decided to join him. It wasn't as if he hadn’t done it before. Their relationship was a relatively close one. Sonic, in a way, raised the fox and became a sort of family. He admired him a lot. Not only as a hero but an older brother. And he wasn't ashamed to admit it.
So when Sonic asked Tails if he could come over for the day, he didn't think twice about it. The answer was an immediate yes, before they raced over to his lab. Even if they knew who the obvious winner was.
Once they arrived, Tails went straight to working on the Tornado. Trying to find ways he could improve upon it based on their latest battle. There were always ways to improve it, even if his friends told him it was already perfect. Sonic climbed up the ladder above the workshop and sat on it. Making himself comfortable as he idly watched his little brother work on his favorite toy.
Sonic couldn't help but smile, watching the way the fox's ear twitched at every creak of the gears. His twin tails smoothly flowing beneath him like they were soft clouds. How his brows furrowed in concentration. Or how he would sometimes stick his tongue out to better focus. Quite the adorable sight, if he was being honest. It was these little things he took for granted and missed the most. He'd never make that mistake again. It’s what Sonic swore to himself the moment he returned to his world, his home. Speaking of, it had only been more than a few weeks since the “incident” happened. Just the thought of it had his insides doing backflips.
Sonic could feel the phantom sensation of his skin fading and fizzing out. Almost by instinct, he reached to wrap his arms around himself to somewhat ground him as he averted his gaze from the small fox below in favour of the window. He wasn't looking at anything in particular; Sonic just didn't want Tails to catch him staring.
He’d gone several nights without sleep and when Sonic did they were restless. Images of his friends and their many variants, the lifeless shell of his own group of friends repeating themselves over and over in an endless loop, like a broken record. It was haunting. His dreams, or rather, nightmares, consisted of him wandering in that empty, blueprint world alone trying to call for his friends. Not even Shadow was there to give him a beat down, shake him awake from that awful place. He'd cry for them and try to bring them back to their senses, but to no use. Then a loud, piercing laughter of a cunning fox would ring through the fields as it all began to fall apart. Hills and trees flying off into the cracking sky that he'd desperately try to hold into place, but there was only so much a lone hedgehog could do.
Other times he'd be having a normal day out when all of his friends would suddenly freeze up and the world got drained of its color. He'd watch as all of his friends looked at him panicked and confused before anger clouded them, blaming Sonic for what was happening. Part of him knew it was warranted.
Sometimes Sonic wondered if it happened at all. If everything was just a convoluted nightmare he was forced to live through.
But Shadow never really let him forget it. Not that they talked much after everything, but it was clear that things had changed between them. For the better, thankfully. But he was living proof that it indeed happened.
That didn’t stop Sonic’s thoughts from swirling, though. He’d wonder about the others, worry if he’d lose it all again. He wouldn’t know what to do with himself if he lost everything all over again. He couldn’t, and the mere thought made him break into cold sweat.
Sometimes his brain reminded him the only reason he was even here was by luck alone. Shadow did most of the work after all. Heck, Sonic wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him! He barely remembered the trip back, only the sizzling, static pain and the wind passing through him. The mere thought of it made Sonic’s brain hurt. He brought his hands to his head, trying to ease the throbbing in his skull. While doing his best to muffle a pained groan.
Sonic couldn’t do this. He couldn’t live the rest of his life in constant paranoia of any day being the last. Not allowing himself to fully enjoy the good, peaceful moments because he’d waste time worrying himself. He would do his best to force more enjoyment out of life. If only because he didn’t want to leave in regret, which was already an old friend to him. Stuck in his own paradox. Sonic scoffed. The word brought a bitter taste to his mouth. He was home now, and he wouldn’t let anything or anyone ever take it away from him again. Even if it was by his own fault, he’s done more than enough to prove himself capable, right?
A few hours of this torture passed. Sonic’s sense of awareness was so bad, he couldn’t recall what day of the week it was. Let alone an hour. Sonic let out a shaky exhale as he stretched his legs out first from the ladder. Then his arms before jumping down, startling the busy fox. Tails rolled out from underneath the Tornado, and lifted his goggles to look at his friend. His head tilted. “Sonic?”
“Yo, Tails. You don’t mind me heading off for a sec, do ya?” Sonic shot the fox with what he hoped was a convincing smirk, his signature look. But it only came off as fake and caused his cheeks to hurt.
Tails looked him up and down for a moment. His lips curled into something Sonic has come to learn as worry. It made him feel slightly guilty, but he tried not to falter, making a conscious effort of keeping his tail and ears from giving off too much of his internal struggles.
After what felt like an eternity, Tails shrugged and put his goggles back down, seemingly finding nothing of note in Sonic’s sudden want to depart.
“Alright, be back in time for dinner.”
Sonic chuckled, feeling himself becoming more laxed. A genuine smile took over the forced one at the small joke. “Very funny, Tails. When did you become my guardian?”
Tails rolled his eyes without answering. Then pressed the button to let Sonic out before laying down and rolling back under the Tornado to continue his work. But as Sonic was about to turn around and dash off, Tails quickly got back up.
“Wait!”
Sonic turned around to face him. “Yeah, bud?”
There’s a moment of silence. Tails seemed to ponder his next words carefully, looking like he wasn’t quite sure if he should say anything. He bit the bottom of his lip and rubbed his index finger with his thumb. Trying to find the right words, he looked anywhere except Sonic himself, until they suddenly locked eyes.
Tails was smart, he noticed the little things, as he always does. But he couldn’t find the right words he needed to convey that. And even if he did, the probability of him getting an answer from the stubborn hedgehog was zero to none. He gave out a heavy sigh as he broke off their staring contest, looking away with solemn resolve. Maybe this wasn’t the right time. He shook his head and gave an awkward smile as he rubbed the back of his neck. Then waved Sonic off with the other. “Never mind, just be careful out there.”
Sonic gave Tails a puzzled look, but shrugged it off. Not wanting to push on the already stiff atmosphere. He winked and gave Tails a single finger gun.
“Will do. Catch ya later.” And before Tails could blink, he was gone. A puff of dust was the only indicator of Sonic being there.
Tails let out another defeated sigh, his shoulder sagged as he dropped back down the creeper and rolled under the Tornado to resume his work. “I hope he’s okay.” He mumbled to himself.
The late afternoon sun painted the landscape of Green Hills in an array of pinks, purples, and blues. A soft, gentle breeze made the grass and flowers dance gently in place. Blowing the heat of the morning away. It made for a calming atmosphere to relax in, but it wasn’t enough to calm Sonic’s nerves.
He could feel his skin sizzling, fading from existence. The phantom pain of every punch he got from faces he once knew as friends bruising his very soul. It made him shudder, and no amount of running would make it go away.
He hoped the brute force of the wind would numb the pain, numb his thoughts. He tried to focus on the sharp breeze against his skin, the way the grass felt under his footsteps as it pushed against it to go faster. Sonic tried to see if slowing down would help instead, as running from his problems didn’t fix them last time. Only it didn’t, and he would argue it made things worse. So he pushed on. Counting how many times he broke the sound barrier only silenced his thoughts for so long.
Sonic wanted to take a pause, a moment to stop his thoughts from consuming him, but he couldn’t. He felt like an everlasting motor, never running out of fuel. Every thought that’d pop into his head would make him run faster, letting Sonic feel as his heels began to dig into the soft dirt below him, making him sink but never slow down. It honestly didn’t matter where he was going anymore; he just let the wind take him, mind too cloudy to think about the directions. He just wanted to be as far away from people as possible.
The look Tails kept giving him….Sonic didn’t want to worry his little brother, but he couldn’t burden him with what he should’ve told him from the start. Sonic was vulnerable with his emotions, he could admit that, but he knew which ones to display or not…Kind of. He would usually mask his emotions with a punny joke or smart comment, but lately, it’s become harder for him to hold them back.
Sonic eventually came to a halt on the other side of the island. The pain in his heart outweighing the pain in his head to the point he couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t do it anymore! His legs could keep running for days, but his lungs felt constricted against his ribcage and it was like he was being suffocated with every step. He tried to even them out, but each breath was shakier than the other. It was unbearable.
He wanted to claw at his throat, gloved hands pawing at his chest in hopes to ease the pain, but it did nothing but make it worse. His vision clouded with tears and with shaky hands, he tried to search for support, feeling the ground beneath him become unsteady. The hedgehog’s expression was almost unreadable. It seemed to be a mix between a grimace and confusion. Sonic wanted to scream, to vomit out all the anguish bubbling inside of him like a roaring storm, but he didn’t. He didn’t want to disturb the peace of the valley, call any attention to him, or signal that he was there at all.
Instead he let himself cry. Thick tears rolled down his cheeks as he slid down to the ground and leaned against the palm tree he initially used for support. He bit down his trembling lips to muffle out the whimpers and hiccups, swallowing any noise that tried to escape him. His ear went flat against his head, tail tight against his leg. He wanted to stay strong, like he was back when he first arrived in New Yoke. He couldn't falter….he couldn’t let himself be weak.
But now it was just him and his thoughts, battling against each other with no distractions. At least, that’s what he assumed.
***
Somewhere else in the island lived a young, pink hedgehog, Amy Rose. Like Tails, she was part of Sonic’s team. She was the heart of the group; the one keeping their team glued together. After the battle, she bid her friends farewell and set out to a little spot she claimed as her own. Along with her companion, Birdie.
The place was located below a small blocky hill, where most of the flowers grew and other small animals gathered around. She watched as Birdie joined its other friends, laying down on a small patch of soft, green grass with a satisfied sigh. It was moments like these which made the hammer smashing worth it. Every battle, every hardship.
Amy wasn’t sure how long she’d spent outside, watching the Flickies and other critters play about the field. At some point she got up to tend to the flowers, something to keep herself busy.
While she worked, a sudden rustling of grass grabbed her attention. Despite that, Amy didn’t move. Didn’t even try to turn around to see who it was. The familiar gust of wind coming with the speed of sound told her exactly who it was, she simply smiled and continued her work. It took a while for the mystery person to speak, which was odd. But Amy figured he might’ve not noticed her there, so she let it be.
She smiled as her feathered friend flew over to her with the exact tool she needed. “Thank you. Remind me to give you a treat when we get home.” The Flickie chirped happily. That seemed to snap some awareness to the person behind her. A small gasp and more rustling of grass indicated they were still there.
“Amy, didn’t expect to see you here. What’s up?” The voice spoke, proving her initial suspicions correct.
“Didn’t we already see each other a few hours ago?”
Sonic clenched at his chest dramatically with a drawled out, offended gasp. “I thought you’d appreciate me here since we don’t hang out much. But if not, then I guess I’ll just head on home and–”
“What are you doing here, Sonic?”
Despite her tone coming off as annoyed, she was actually glad someone had found her. And it was Sonic, no less. Of course she’d be happy to see him over. Though maybe Amy’s tone was a little too harsh because Sonic cringed at the question. He was thankful she was facing forward, so she couldn’t see the falter of his persona. It gave him ample time to fix up his act as he walked up closer to her. He wasn’t quite sure how to respond, so he settled on a half truth.
“You know me. Felt cooped up in the lab, so I went out for a run.”
The pink hedgehog wasn’t convinced, but she didn’t press the issue, not wanting to scare Sonic off knowing she wouldn’t be able to catch him. So she hummed in reply.
Sonic, feeling ignored, awkwardly got on his knees next to Amy and waved at her Flickie friend. It raised its tiny eyebrows at him and he looked away nervously.
“Whatcha doin’ there? Oooh, seeds! Can I have some?”
“Are you going to eat them?”
Sonic gave a faux guilty look, pursing his lips as he glanced up. “Probably~”
“Then no.”
Sonic’s eyes quickly widened as he looked at her. He raised his hands and clasped them together over his chest in a pleading gesture.
“Ahhh, Amy. C’mon, don’t be like that. Please?”
Amy let out a small huff and reluctantly shoved a bag over to Sonic. Who quickly grabbed it after shaking off the initial shock of the sudden action. Birdie gave him a shovel and he responded with a salute. It rolled its beady eyes and flew off.
The two hedgehogs quietly planted the seeds together, basking in each other's presence until the stars began to creep up in the sky. The soft shift between warm to cool colors left a calm atmosphere to blanket over the hills. The breeze became slightly colder than before, blowing away petals to dance with the stars.
Amy looked up briefly before finally patting down some of the dirt over the flower. Letting out a small, satisfied huff as she placed the back of her wrists over her hips proudly.
“That’s the last of them. Thanks, Sonic.”
Sonic smirked. “Are you happy I came now?” He said, unknowingly wrapping an arm around Amy as she playfully hit him on the elbow.
She pulled away from the half embrace and began to make her way towards the edge of the hill. Laying down on her stomach with her ears tucked, Amy smiled at the setting sun. Only the peak of its head layed over the horizon, painting the waters with all its glory. Birdie joined her and sat over Amy’s head, making itself comfortable on her quills.
Sonic stood in the same position as before, a little dumbfounded and unsure of what to do. He looked around for a moment before deciding to join her. He laid on his back, head resting on the soft grass that intertwined themselves with his quills. It eased the headache that split his brain just moments before, but Sonic knew he’d have to go back to the lab eventually. It made the pain linger.
“The sky is really beautiful tonight, isn’t it?”
Sonic didn’t answer.
“Sonic?” Amy turned her head to look at Sonic, wondering if he fell asleep. Something she’d partially hoped for because the eyebags he carried weren’t hard to miss. But what she saw was even more confusing. Sonic had a thousand yard stare, looking up at the stars with no real direction. It was like he wasn’t even there!
“Sonic!”
“AH!”
Amy’s yell made Sonic flinch, snapping him out of whatever daze he was in with a startle. He looked around disoriented before his gaze met Amy’s. For a moment he saw someone else, her expression eerily similar to one of her counterparts. He felt his heart rate spike up for a second, but quickly schooled his expression.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, it sure is lovely.” He said, a little more rushed than he would have liked.
By the way Amy’s face twisted into a grimace, he knew her leniency towards him to not push the subject had dropped, and he tried to prepare for what was to come.
“Sonic, I didn’t want to say this, but ever since we saved the Paradox Prism you’ve been acting weird! What’s gotten into you?!” There was desperation in her tone, like she had exhausted all her options and was at a loss on what to do.
“I-I’m sorry, alright?”
Sonic felt his legs itch, bouncing just a little as he got the sudden urge to go on another run. But he was tired of leaving his friends in the dark, picking up the pieces he left behind. They didn’t deserve that.
Amy was getting frustrated, clear by how her facial features wrinkled. But when she noticed how agitated the Sonic looked, she felt it all get whisked away, softening to a more concerned expression. It made her feel guilty for yelling. Adding to her soft approach, she sat up and placed a hand over his shoulder.
“I understand you might not want to talk about it, but you know me and the others have your back.”
Sonic rolled over and hit his head against the grass in frustration. It was clear that he was battling himself inside, trying to find the right way to word things, to say or not to say.
Amy sighed, “It’s okay. If you want to wait until you’re ready, I’ll do the same. Take as much time as you need.”
She sat there for a moment longer. Waiting for something before deciding that there was nothing to wait for, not in that moment at least, and began to stand up and make her way out of the field. She hugged herself and rubbed her cold arms to warm them up when a sudden force wrapped itself around her from behind, sending Birdie flying off of Amy’s head and making her stop dead in her tracks.
She was frozen for a moment before slowly moving around and reciprocating the gesture. Amy felt the desperation in the action and how gloved hands grasped at her dress as if she would vanish in thin air. It wasn’t the first time Sonic hugged her in such a way. After the “incident” he did it constantly, and each time it felt more desperate. They were awkward and sometimes overwhelming, and he never failed to thank her each time. It was odd, but she didn’t push. She gave it twice the squeeze. Being much stronger than most of her friends, Amy was usually careful to not hurt them. Not noticing her own strength sometimes. But she knew this was the moment Sonic needed it.
After a while, she pulled away, much to Sonic’s protest, and moved one hand over to cup his face. He looked at her with bleary, emerald green eyes before closing them and leaning into the touch. Seeing Sonic up close now made it abundantly clear he cried earlier. The tears long since dried, meaning it was before he found her. But the fur on his cheeks still felt rough and stiff. The rim of his eyes looked red and puffed up.
“Oh, Sonic.” Amy thought to herself.
She rubbed her thumb against the tear streaks for a moment. Then gazed at him kindly and caring before wordlessly sliding her hand over to his and moved to stand beside him. Birdie looked at the two a little exasperated. Unsure, it tried to gain Amy’s attention for some form of answer. She only gave a shrug and a slight shake of her head. The Flickie flew over to the other hedgehog. With resolve in its expression, it chirped as it rubbed its head against Sonic’s cheek, gaining his attention. Birdie felt satisfaction in its chest at the light and quiet chuckle Sonic gave at the action. A gloved hand scratching its head as a form of gratitude. Sonic still felt too overwhelmed to speak, but he didn’t want such a kind act to go thankless.
The Flickie perched on Sonic’s shoulder and curled up in the crook of his neck, wanting to be of some comfort to Amy’s friend. She gave her own form of thanks through a smile. They walked in tense silence after that, Amy rubbed gentle circles on the back of his hand to try and calm his nerves.
Amy would occasionally glance over at Sonic to check on him, and he never looked more miserable. His ears were loosely flopping to the sides of his head, bouncing gently as they walked. Inside, Sonic was having another war within himself over all his internal struggles and how he wanted to spill everything out. But the lump that formed so tightly inside his throat prevented him from doing so. All it did was make him choke on air and made him want to puke.
He felt his skin start to sizzle again with phantom pain and he couldn’t take it anymore! Like a kettle boiling over, something inside him tipped and he finally managed to spill the needed words out. They felt like sandpaper scratching at the walls of his throat, weighed so heavily on his tongue that it made it hard to lift, and clenched at his jaw like glue, keeping it from opening.
“Uh, Amy…”
But he did it. It was just two words, and they were weak, frail. If the wind was any stronger, it would have taken them away like dead leaves. But it wasn’t, and Amy heard his desperate plea for help.
She turned to him, those big, green eyes looking at him expectantly, a small hum notifying him she was paying attention. They were gentle, kind, warm, everything Sonic loved and feared at the same time. They looked at him with such sincerity, it weighed on him like a heavy blanket, comforting but suffocating. They expected so much, yet nothing at all.
Sonic couldn’t disappoint them, not any more than he already has.
So, he told her.
He told her everything that haunted him, everything that weighed him down. After the first couple of words being rasped out, it was like a dam had been broken and he couldn’t stop it from overflowing. One word after another, it all came out in a fury of emotions that felt terrifying, but there was no stopping them. Or the small tears he didn't even realise were there until Amy kindly wiped them away. It wasn’t crying though, it was frustration, and his words suddenly came out as bites and growls the longer he talked.
Sonic’s rant felt exhausting, like he was drowning in a sea of doubt. Yet solace in a way he had never expected it to be. Amy didn’t talk, didn’t intervene. She just let Sonic get everything out while tenderly giving him reassuring gestures to keep him grounded.
The gentle bumps of Birdie’s head against his and Amy’s soft rubs of his hand helped more than he could thank them for.
Eventually, things began to slow down, and Sonic could feel the grey clouds that surrounded him gently fade away. Allowing him to see things clearly. Strangely, they were right outside the path that led to Tails’ lab, and Sonic wasn’t quite sure when they got there.
Once Amy determined Sonic finished ranting, she spoke up. “Oh wow. You’ve been holding all of that in?”
Sonic looked at her. His disorienting gaze was still unfocused, but he was there. He looked away and scratched his ear in shame.
“I figured pretending everything was fine would help me forget about it.”
“And how did that turn out?”
Sonic cringed a little. “Not great…”
“Does anyone other than Shadow know about this?”
“No.”
Amy was surprised, in disbelief even. She had to ask, just to be sure. “Not even Tails?!”
Sonic didn’t reply, which left Amy fumbling in complete confusion. Mouth agape, trying to find the right thing to say. Not even Tails?! Sonic told that fox almost anything that came to his mind! Shadow knew before his own brother?
“Sonic, we’ve–”
Sonic quickly shut down whatever Amy was about to tell him, with urgency in his voice.
“How am I supposed to tell them?!” The way the pitch in his voice raised caught her off guard. “Hey guys, guess what?! I’ve almost permanently destroyed the entire shatterverse! Luckily, I had Shadow around to help, right?! Please…” He exaggerated a happy tone of voice that almost broke into frustration. The response was so obviously fake that when he dropped to a more annoyed tone, it wasn’t surprising.
Amy felt unsure what to say for a moment, but quietly muttered, “Yeah, but everything’s fine now. You saved us.” Amy swore she could hear a small scoff from him, though it sounded more sad than angry. “More like Shadow saved you guys. I only made things worse.”
Amy let out a frustrated huff, one that the Flickie mimicked as it flew over to her head from Sonic’s shoulder to emphasize their sentiment. They placed their hands and wings over their hips. Amy turned her whole body to face him, making them stop walking for a moment, right in front of the lab. “Hey, blaming yourself isn’t going to help! Both of you saved us, and you’ve changed. That’s an achievement.”
Sonic paused for a moment, eyes wide and hands up in surrender.
“On top of that, you...” Amy stuttered, struggling to find the right words to convey her thoughts. “You sacrificed yourself for them. For us. That’s what makes you a hero, Sonic. I know you still feel awful about shattering the prism. Anyone would. But what’s important now is that you’re doing your best to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Besides, the Sonic I know is still one of the bravest and strongest hedgehogs I’ve ever met.”
Sonic snickered, leaning to the side as he placed one hand on his hip and looked away. “But he’s definitely not the brightest.”
Amy smiled satisfied and shrugged. “Baby steps.”
Finally, after what felt like hours since, Sonic had a genuine smile on his face. “You’re right. As usual from The Amy Rose.” He stretched his arms towards Amy as if he was presenting her on a stage. Emphasising his admiration for her in his own way.
Amy curtseyed with a guffaw, “What can I say? I know my stuff.” She paused for a moment, looking up at the familiar orange lab ahead of them.
“You know, I never expected you to take my advice. That was really sweet of you to do for them.”
Sonic chuckled. “It seriously came in handy. And I needed something to keep my head straight.”
They were silent for a moment. Sonic tilted his head up. Amy followed Sonic’s gaze and stared at the beautiful starry sky.
“You really missed us, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I did.”
Suddenly, Amy’s ear perked up as it picked up the sound of a small whimper. She brought her head back down and looked at Sonic who was staring up. Desperately trying to keep tears from rolling down his face again.
“Um, Sonic. Are you…?”
Sonic quickly lifted his hand up to his eyes and covered them, trying to keep them as dry as possible. “Oh, uh. *Sniff* Nope! Totally fine! Nothing to see here!” He said with a strained voice and wobbly smile.
Amy held back a giggle by raising a fist to her lips. “Awww, it’s okay. Ya big softy.”
Sonic’s ears dropped as his muzzle suddenly became very hot. “Ames, please stop…”
“You started it.”
He huffed and crossed his arms, looking away with an embarrassed smile.
“Whatever.”
Amy couldn’t help but laugh. She turned to face the lab once more, letting a small, content sigh leave her. “You might wanna explain to Tails why you missed dinner.” She said with a knowing smile.
Sonic looked at Amy incredulously, “You too? I mean–” he shook off the initial shock, “fair. I’ll tell everyone else eventually. Thanks for the pep talk, Ames.”
Amy smiled at him, satisfied at their progression. “If you ever need me, I’m always available.”
Sonic gave her a thumbs up and a small nod before making his way to the front door, typing in the code to let himself in. Amy gave him one last knowing smile before leaving. Birdie spun around her head to wave its little wing at him until they were out of sight. Sonic let out a small laugh as he waved back, turning around to face the lab once he could no longer see them.
As soon as Sonic entered the lab, Tails was all up on his business, concern and frustration clear on his face. “You know, for the fastest thing alive, I’d figure ‘being on time for dinner’ would be an easy task for you. Mind explaining yourself?” He sounded like a disappointed mother scolding her kid for missing curfew; Sonic held back a laugh.
“Sure thing. But I gotta tell ya, it’s gonna be a doozy.”

Welcome to the end! Did you like it? Hope so because we both had a BLAST creating it. The Little Things was a way to show how much Prime’s events affected an emotionally driven Sonic. Unlike in the Games or IDW this broken blue blur isn’t as good at hiding his emotions and is more open towards others. It’s what keeps him going. The story also plays with the swapped roles of Amy and Sonic and expands it in an emotional and hopefully fun way. Also, if you’ve ever felt this since of hurt and anguish, remember the people you love in your life and that even if you think you’re alone, you’re not. Thank you for reading!
Also, definitely recommend following @saltynsassy31 she’s an amazing writer. Give her some love!

5:34 p.m. at the Smash Mansion's Living Room.........
Shadow: (Sitting Next to the Snatcher on the Sofa While Wearing the Phantom of Opera Costume) Not interested.
Snatcher: Oh come on, man. You'll be a perfect candidate for the job! (Leans in and Whispers into Shadow's Ears) Hell, if you do a good enough job and not die, I'll might be generous enough to make you twice as powerful than you are already~
Shadow: (Slowly Pushes the Snatcher's Face Away From his Ear) Again, I'll pass. I'm not in desperate need of any power, nor I want to be associated with a shameless con artist like you.
Snatcher: (Glares at Shadow) Hey, that's shamelessly negotiator to you, pal! (Crosses his Arms While Turning Away) 'Been in this business for eons now and I never ONCE done a scam of any kind.
Shadow: (Rolls his Eyes) Tell that to your so called "employees", if you even still have any left....
Snatcher: ('Tch') Please. I have plenty left. I mean, I had to let a few chumps go here and there.
Meanwhile
Countless upon countless souls are screaming on the top of their lungs in agony, as they continously fall down into a nightmarish filled abyss.
Soul: CURSE YOU SNATCHERRRRRRRRRR!
Back to the Mansion
Snatcher: But I ain't THAT empty-handed. (Forms a Sly, Conniving Smirk on his Face) Although, we COULD use a few more hands if you- ('Sigh') Oh I dunno~ (Summons a Piece of Paper In Thin Air) Sign this normal looking contract right her-
'Ahem'
The Snatcher looks up to see Peach, dress in her Sword Fighter costume glaring down at the shadowy figure.
Peach: Snatcher.
Snatcher: (Casually Waves to Peach) Hey there, your highness. (Makes the Contract Disappear with the Snap of his Finger) How's it going?
Peach: Oh, I'm doing fine. Just getting ready for Halloween. And making sure you're not trying anything suspicious in here with my son.
Snatcher: Oh will you relax? Shadie and I were only having a normal conversation here.
Shadow: Don't ever call me that.
Peach: That's right. (Points at Herself) Only WE'RE allowed to call him that!
Shadow: NO ONE is allow call me that. Ever.
Peach: (Place her Hand on her Chest as her Eyes Starts Sparkling a Little) Even me?~
Shadow: Yes, mother, even you. Nicknames like that doesn't fit my style and image all that well.
Snatcher: But using a gun is? When you're supposed to be this all mighty Ultimate Lifeform that you pobably made up to make yourself look cool-
Shadow: (Pushes the Snatcher's Face Away From Him Once More) Anywho.....
Snatcher: QUIT DOING THAT!!
Shadow: (Turns Back to Peach) Has sister and father got themselves ready yet?
Peach: (Turns Away While Grabbing her Chin) I'm not sure. It's been a few minutes since I've last checked up on- (Eyes and Mouth Begins to Widened at What is in Front of Her) t-t-t-t-t-them?~
Shadow and Snatcher and turns to see Mario slowly walking into the room wearing a bright red dress and long, brown hair while carrying a parasol in his hands, much to their surprise.
Mario: Greetings, one and all~ A wonderful evening we're having, is it not?~
Snatcher: ......Huh.
Peach: (Almost at a Loss For Words) Mario.....I-Is that really you?
Mario: (Flips his Hair to Side in an Elegant Fashion) Indeed it is, my dear hero!~ I figured it would be fitting for Hat Kid and I to play the role as princesses for the night.
Hat Kid: (Happily Reveals Herself From Behind Mario While Wearing a Purple Dress of her Own) Ta-Da!~
Peach: (Eyes Starts Sparkling Again as She Places her Hands Onto Both her Cheeks and Proceeds to Gush at the Elegent Duo) Oh my gosh, you two are the most loveliest princesses ever!~
Shadow: I couldn't say it any better myself really.
Snatcher: Can't believe I'm saying this, but you two don't look half bad.
Mario: (Smiles Brightly) Why, thank you~ (Pushes Up the Side of his Hair While Hat Kid Gimmicks his Movements) It's not everyday you get to be as divine and delicate as the two of us right now~
Hat Kid: (Nodded in Agreement) Uh-huh~
Snatcher: (Puts on a Deadpinned Look on his Face) I wouldn't go that far......
Sonic: (Quickly Rushes Himself Inside While Wearing a Thriller's Costume) Hey, guys, I- (Eyes Begins to Widened at What In Front of his Point of View) Woah. Dad, is that really you?
Mario: Indeed it is~ I am but a humble, fairest princess in this very mansion. (Puts on an Elegant Like Pose) Impressive, no?~
Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly) Yeah, you great. (Turns to Hat Kid) You too, sis. Love the tiara.
Hat Kid: (Smiles Brightly) Thank you!~
Sonic: (Starts Shaking his Head Before Going Back on Topic) A-Anyways, we have a bit of problem right now.
Mario: (Eyes Widened a Bit) You do? What is it?
Peach: And where's Amy? Is she okay?
Sonic: Yeah, she's fine. She here with me, in fact. But uhh....Something happened along the way and....You might wanna see this.
Sonic walks over to the door as everyone else follows behind.
'Door Opens'
Peach: Amy, is everything okay out- ('Gasps') Oh my gosh!
Amy: (Nervously Does a Little Jazz Hands in her '80s Rockstar Outfit....as a Werehog) Surprise.........
Mario: (Eyes Widened at What is in Front of Him and the Others) Amy, you became a werehog now?
Snatcher: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) A were what now?
Shadow: A werehog. They're hedgehog's version of werewolves but more bulker in comparison. (Turns Back to Amy) How were you able to gain access to that transformation in first place?
Mario: Yeah, I thought only Sonic could do that.
Amy: (Sighs Heavily While Flailing her Arms Down) I don't knoooow!.....One minute I was getting myself ready for treak-or-treating tonight and the next I was turned to THIS.....big, dumb, HIDEOUS thing!!
Sonic: (Softly Glares at his Girlfriend as He Gently Grabs Hold to One of her Hands) Hey! Amy, we've been over this. Nothing about you is stupid or hideous.
Peach: (Firmly Nodded in Agreement) He's right. You're just as wonderful as you've always been regardless of what you look like. (Gently Place her Hand Onto Amy's Shoulfer) Now, just take a deep and calm yourself down a bit. We'll figure something out.
Amy: (Does as She Was Told and Takes a Very Deep Breath) Right. I'm sorry, it just.....This has been stressing me out since we left the house to get here and I couldn't think straight since.
Shadow: (Casually Shrugs) I wouldn't worry too much about it really. It does tend to happen to the best of us on some occasions.
Amy: True. (Lower her Ears Down a Bit) I just don't wanna end up ruining the night for everyone here.........
Mario: You're not going to ruin anything tonight, not even us.
Sonic: Yeah, and anyone who has a problem with you will have me to answer. I'll always have your back 100%, Ames.
Amy: (Heart Begins to Melt as She Pulls her Boyfriend into a Very Loving Hug) Oh Sonic, I love you so freaking much!~
Sonic: (Winces a Bit in Pain Before Smiling a Bit) Yeah. Love you too, Ames.
Peach lowers herself down and starts whispering into Mario's ear for a couple of seconds before the two nodded in agreement as the supposed princess in red begins to rush back inside with the bottom front of his dress lifted up a little.
Amy: Mr. Mario?
Peach: (Gives Amy a Reassuring Smile on her Face) Will be back in a sec, dear. In meantime, just try and keep staying calm for us, ok?
Amy: ('Sigh') Yes, ma'am.
Snatcher: Ah cheer up there, kid. Look on the bright side. With that new werehog form of yours, you could be able to scare people into giving you free candy. You like candy, right?
Amy: I mean, there's a select few I like, yeah. But I don't wanna get in the habit of scaring them too much, you know?
Snatcher: Hey, I get it. Self-control is important and whatnot. Though, if you ever feel the need putting it to good use, you could just.....('Clicks') Oh I dunno~ (Summons a Piece a Paper Once Again with a Sinister Grin on his Face) Sign this perfectly made contract riiight he-
Peach: (Quickly Gets in Front of Amy Along with Everyone Else) DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, SNATCHER!
Soic: Keep your contacts away from my girlfriend, pal.
Shadow: We're not doing this tonight.
Hat Kid: Bad Snatcher.
Snatcher: ('Groans in Annoyance') FINE! Fine! I'll quit it with the business deals! (Makes the Contract Disappear with One Snap of his Finger....Again) I swear I can't have shit in this place......
Mario: (Rushes Bacl Outside While Holding an Elephant Looking Fruit) I'm back with the- WooOOoah! (Accidentally Steps on the Front of his Dress and Trips Down on the Floor)
'THUD'
Mario: Mamma.......
Peach: Mario! (Rushes Over to her Boyfriend's Side) Are you okay, honey?
Mario: ('Sigh') Yeah.....I'll be fine. I forgot how hard it is to run in dresses like these.
Peach: (Giggles Softly) Now you know how I feel ever time I wear one~
Mario: (Chuckles Lightly) Yeah, no kidding. (Smirks a Bit Seductively) Though, I must say, you do look very dashing in that costume of yours, my hero~
Peach: (Smirks Back) And you look very pretty yourself, your majesty~ So much so that I can just eat you up!~ (Starts Kissing All Over Mario's Face)
Mario: (Starts Laughing Ticklishly by Peach's Kisses) Peheheheach!~Stooooop!~
Snatcher: (Watches the Doting Couple in Disgust) ('Uggh') (Turns to Shadow) Are they always like this?
Shadow: (Already Covering Hat Kid's Eyes) For the most part. ('Clears Throat')
Mario and Peach immediately stops everything that what they were doing before blushing and giggling softly
Peach: We gotten a bit overboard there haven't we?~
Mario: Pretty much. (Gives Peach a Peck on this Cheek) Wanna continue this later on tonight?~
Peach: (Giggles Some More as She Helps Mario Back Up on his Feet) Sounds like a plan!~ (Picks the Eleberry Up From the Ground and Walks Towards the Middle of the Door Entrance) Everyone! Stand back a little. I might need some room.
As everyone follow through with her request, the heroine in blue takes a very deep breath before taking one bite off of the fruit she's holding as she begins to transform into a pink colored elephant.
Amy: (Eyes Widened in Awe at What She and the Others are Looking At) Wooah......
Hat Kid: Pretty.......
Shadow: So this is the new power up everyone here mentioned.......
Sonic: Hm. Neat.
Snatcher: (Points at the Fruit in Question) So that elephant looking thing can turn you into one with one bite?
Peach: (Happily Nodded) Yep! That's an Eleberry for ya. A bit of a misuse for the power up for certain, but I figured if I could be in this form for the rest of the evening, everyone in town, wouldn't have to set their eyes to only Amy.
Amy: Wait, time-out. You're telling me you're doing all of this.....(Eyes Begins to Sparkle) For me?
Peach: (Gives Amy a Soft, Motherly Smile) Of course, dear. Halloween is supposed to be a fun, thrilling night for all of us to enjoy and the last thing I want is for you to feel uncomfortable and more stressed out than you already are right now. So if I have to share the burden of being looked and point at all night, then so be it. We're in this together no matter what.
Amy: (Heart Begins to Melt as Tearfully Guves Peach a Tight Hug) Momma Peach, thank you sooo much!~ ('Sniff') You didn't have to do all of that for me....
Peach: (Happily Hugs Amy Back) It's no problem at all, dear. You're just as part of this family as Sonic is. I'd do anything for those I care abou-
'Whistle'
The gang turns to see Bowser holding a flower bonquet while smirking seductively at the elephant princess.
Bowser: Princess!~ I almost didn't recognized you with cute face of yours there~
Peach: (Pinches the Bridge of her Nose in Pure Annoyance and Disgust While Letting Out a Heavy Sigh) I can't believe we're doing this right now.....What do you want, Bowser?
Bowser: Ohhh nothing of the sort~ I was just walking by and couldn't help but notice how irresistible you looking right now~
Snatcher: Okay, I get the feeling that you're a lovestruck idiot and everything, but you realize she's an elephant now, right?
Amy: (Glares at Bowser with her Hands on her Hips) And is happily taken by Mr. Mario currently?
Bowser: Who? (Points at an Anrgy Mario Behind Him) You mean that mess of a drag show over there? Yeah, she picked a reeeal winner alright.
Mario silently flips the bird at Bowser.
Bowser: And do you seriously think I care all that much about how a princess looks?
Everyone: YES!
Bowser: Yeah, well, too bad! (Wraps his Arm Around Peach's Shoulder) You're wrong! Here's a bit of trivia you should learn about me, folks: In some cases, I like my women big, round, and chunky in alllll the right are-
Before he even thinks about finishing that sentence, Bowser suddenly gets knocked straight inside the mansion with one punch and a het spray of water.
Peach: (Walks Up to a Beaten Bowser) Don't forget your flowers. (Throws the Bonquet at Bowser) Creep. (Takes Another Deep Breath Before Calming Down and Walking Back to the Gang) Alright, everyone! Let's finally get this Halloween Night started!~
Everyone (with the exception of Shadow) cheers in rejoice as the door begins to close behind them, leaving Bowser in his pitiful lonesome.
Bowser: ('Groans in Pain')
Ganondorf: (Walks Over to a Beaten Bowser) Let me guess: you tried to be smooth and win Peach over, only for it to backfire in end.
Bowser: (Sadly and Painfully Nodded) Mmhmmm........
Ganondorf: And now you're gonna cry about it all night. Am I right?
Bowser: ('Sniff') Mmhmmm....I...
Ganondorf: ('Sigh') Okay. (Turns to the Other Side of the Room) Hades! You and the fellas meet me at the living room! (Drags Bowser to the Living Room by the Tail) Gonna watch a movie or two before the party starts tonight.

Amy Rose was a person who got lonely easily. Who got cold easily. Warmth wasn’t something she naturally had. Consequently, she basked in the warmth of love the most. Cherished it. Never took it for granted. Among the white desert, she’d wait for that golden glow that made her winter wonderland glimmer like glitter. The warmth of it like a freshly baked homemade pretzel in the early morning, soft, crisp, made with love.
Or,
In the early morning Sonic visits Amy to qualm the paranoia nagging at his mind, he inadvertently seals her fate into the very threat he tried to prevent. He's tipped the first domino, and it's the kind of race he can't outrun.

Summary:
"It was another sunny day, lying on a hillside, beneath the shade of an oak tree. He took a deep breath through his nose and exhaled through an open smile. Hands tucked behind his head like a pillow, with his legs laying straight in the soft grass.
The quiet comfort of the changing seasons was abruptly interrupted by someone outright dropping onto his gut. With a grunt, he jerks at the sudden attack, and opens his eyes in stunned panic as his mind registers the pink quills, and red bandana under his muzzle."
[Wrote a Sonic Prime one-shot on paper and was about to write it out on AO3, but I came across this Sonamy picture before I got started, so then when my hands hit the keyboard, I ended up writing something Sonamy related instead, and then.. my brain took it a more depressing route... Why am I like this?]

I've had a scenario in mind for a while now about what it would take for Sonic to finally own up to his feelings about Amy. And I think what it would take is...
Shadow.
Well, just plain jealousy and a fear of losing Amy before he even has her. But Shadow would be the best one to instigate it.
First, some headcanons about how they behave romantically:
Amy's maturing and spreading her wings. She's not moving on from Sonic, not really, but it's possible that she's starting to notice other guys. There's some hints in the Twitter takeovers that she may be developing some small interest in Shadow.
Sonic is clearly interested in Amy, and if you pay attention, he has been for a long time. What he's not interested in is marriage- at least, not yet. And Amy is clearly wifey material- she cooks, she takes care of people, she has a caring nature, she's protective, and she's extremely loyal. She's not someone you can use for a one-night stand, you take all of her or you risk shattering her into pieces. She's Sonic's friend, no matter what else he may feel about her, so he avoids any romantic interaction because he doesn't want to hurt his friend.
Meanwhile, Shadow is... not aro-ace, per se, I don't know what you'd call him. He can see that Amy is attractive, but so is Rouge, and Shadow has no interest in Rouge. He just isn't interested in the physical side of romance.
What I think it would take to get Shadow's attention is something deeper, an emotional or spiritual connection.
So here's the Sonamy/Shadamy love triangle scenario that I came up with:
As Amy ages, she feels her desire for male companionship growing stronger. Sonic takes little notice of it, but it doesn't escape Shadow's attention.
Somehow or other, Shadow and Amy end up alone together, probably on a mission or something. I haven't figured out the exact circumstances, but they're together for quite a while. Amy loves to talk to people and get to know them, and Shadow has a soft spot for her, so she's able to get him to talk to her about things that he's probably never told anyone before. And he knows she won't tell anyone about them, either, so he feels safe telling her.
At some point, Shadow realizes, she's done it. She's broken through his barriers, and at the same time, she's calmed the storm of emotions that he's had swirling inside him for 50-odd years. He hasn't felt such peace since... no, not even then. This is something else. He's never felt this way before, and he doesn't have the words to describe it, but he's fallen head over heels for her.
This is why he never lets his guard down, even around the people he trusts most. Because if he lets them in, even a little bit, he might let them in too far. ("Can you see all of me, walk into my mystery, step inside and hold on for dear life.")
He loses control of himself and kisses Amy.
And when he lets go, he instantly hates himself, he starts throwing his barriers back up, because... she's crying. She's crying because she liked it, and she wants more of it, but she's still so desperately in love with Sonic, and she's starting to think she'll never get it from him, so she'll accept affection from just about any man, and it's not like Shadow's unattractive, and, and, and...
So Shadow's raw and open and hurting, he knew before he said or did anything that he was going down a dangerous path, but talking to Amy felt so good he didn't want to stop. And he wants to erase what just happened like it never did. But now he has to be the one to comfort Amy, because this was his fault, Amy was just being the kind and compassionate person she always was and Shadow was an idiot for letting it get to him and making more of it than what it was and losing control. So he has to keep his barriers down for just a moment longer, just long enough to hold Amy and tell her it's not her fault, until her tears finally stop.
It leaves Shadow burning with rage, and as soon as he can, he forcefully confronts Sonic (I imagine Shadow slamming Sonic against a wall or a tree and shouting in his face 😝) and basically tells him, "Amy needs attention from a man, she wants that man to be you, but if you can't grow up and do what it takes, then I'll be more than glad to take your place."
Which scares Sonic good and proper. It's bad enough to think that he could lose Amy, anyway, but to lose her to that faker??? And it finally makes him go to Amy and (very, very awkwardly) ask her to be his girlfriend. And... I'll let y'all imagine the rest.
As for Shadow... he, quite understandably, becomes somewhat aloof towards both Sonic and Amy for a long time after that.
But Shadow's immortal, right? And there's other Amy's in the world. He doesn't have to be alone forever.
Oh, and as for why Shadow would confront Sonic instead of just taking Amy for himself: because he respects both Amy and, especially, himself far too much to do that. He knows good and well she will never be able to fully commit to anyone else as long as Sonic is still an option. If Shadow was to start dating her, she'd go along with it, but it would become a power play between him and Sonic to try to "win" Amy's affections. Shadow has no issues with fighting Sonic over just about anything, but when it comes to his own feelings, he won't stoop that low, and he's not about to hurt himself by playing such a game. I also don't think he would view Amy as "a prize to be won."
#my headcanon#romantic headcanons#sonamy#shadamy#sonic the hedgehog#amy rose#shadow the hedgehog#bittersweet#unhappy ending#sorry if y'all hate me for doing this to shadow#but it felt true to his character#people will probably disagree with just about everything and idc#if he ever fell in love it would be on a deep emotional level#and i think he would have difficulty controlling himself#sonic's completely out of touch with his feelings but shadow is not#shadow just can't pin down his emotions because so many of them are terrible and painful#at least this is what i think anyway#and to clarify: neither sonic nor amy would do this to shadow on purpose#it just kinda happened#in truth i don't think shadow ever would allow himself to open up like that in the first place#but i don't think he'll be alone forever#he just has to find the right person#someone who is selflessly caring and compassionate... but also unattached to anyone else#i may have projected some of my own personal fantasies into this as well XP#i never liked the idea of men fighting over me like a trophy#but the idea of someone respecting me enough to be willing to let go of me for my sake...#now THAT is a turn-on#and hopefully if i ever found someone like that...#i would be smart enough to hold onto him instead of running away

Brutally honest opinion on Sonamy, Sonadow and Whispangle? :P
Sorry for the late reply ><
S0namy:
Hoo boy... I have many thoughts... most not very good...
At best, I'm apathetic towards it. At worst, I'm actively annoyed and/or frusterated by it.
I think it's heavily overrated and isn't that good of a ship in general. The amount of bad portrayals of s0namy outweigh the good and/or okay ones imo, and the toxicity of the fandom surrounding it only adds to my dislike for it.
(I'm not saying everyone who likes s0namy is toxic. There are many people in the s0namy fandom that are chill. Unfortunately, there's a vocal part of the s0namy fandom that is very toxic and gatekeepy)
Alot of s0namy portrayals unfortunately fall into "Amy makes Sonic uncomfortable and/or is possessive, but it's seen as cute" which is a dynamic I really don't like. For example, Sonic X has arguably the most popular portrayal of the ship, but imo is one of if not the worst portrayals of the ship.
Then you have other extreme that the ship sometimes falls into, where I can best describe it as "they sure are standing next to eachother" (Frontiers) where there's just... nothing to it, besides "oh it's the main girl and main boy so you have to ship them, they're obviously meant for eachother!"
Another thing, it can be annoying sometimes how the fandom will exaggerate how much the ship is actually canon, saying things like "they're totally dating! they're a couple!" when in reality Sonic is single and will most likely continue to be. At most, it's teased because it's a popular ship, but it won't go further than that.
So the best way to describe how canon S0namy actually is:
Sonadow:
I like it! I think it's cute! I can't see it working out in canon, but I really like fanon sonadow and it's fun to write.
Also, even though prime sonadow is nothing like sonic or shadow would act in canon, I still think it's cute and it's the only thing I enjoyed about the show lol.
Whispangle:
This one kinda hurts... 😔
I used to really like Whispangle, I thought it was really cute. The mini series did a good job of showing their bond.
But then the city arc happened...
What the hell is this.
Why is Tangle reminding Whisper of her trauma so casually when she was shown to be considerate of her feelings before.
Why is Whisper being shown as in the wrong for being upset by this.
Why does Tangle get a 2 panel half assed apology while Whisper gets a THREE PAGE apology.
After this whole mess, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't get behind this ship anymore because of how badly this was handled, and how flanderized it is now (it seems very onesided now, a lot of "Whisper angsting, Tangle comforting" over and over)

Analyzing Sonic's love language + Sonamy, pt. 1
Sonamy is probably one of the most conflicted ships I've seen in the fandom. Which I find funny, because it's quite clearly the ship that the Sonic Team favors the most and gives the most content for, at least when it comes to Sonic himself. But anyway, I've seen a lot of people claim that Sonic "clearly" doesn't like Amy back because of how uncomfortable he looks whenever she showers him with affection. (And yes, I know the more recent media has given her a ton of maturity regarding that, which I appreciate.) But from my observations, that's just not the case.
Why? It boils down to each of the characters' love languages.
And Sonic's love language is quite clearly NOT physical affection. And that doesn't just manifest with Amy; it manifests with EVERYONE that tries to show him more touchy-feely affection, including people we know for a fact he loves to death. Like Tails.
Sonic himself doesn't initiate hugs very often, so when Tails got hurt in the Sonic Boom episode "The Sidekick" and Sonic was trying to figure out some way to protect him and express how much he'd been worried, he does awkwardly hug his little brother. Look at Tails' reaction.
He's probably shocked right now. He would know better than anyone else that Sonic doesn't normally do that.
I don't think Sonic minds hugs, but he actually isn't a big fan of them in general. In the episode "Do Not Disturb," when Sonic and Tails ended up driving each other nuts with their personal lifestyles, Tails walks over and throws his arms around Sonic after they apologize and reconcile. This time, look at Sonic's reaction.
His stance and expression make it pretty clear he was not expecting it, and after a couple seconds he says "Kay, too long, gettin' weird," and gently pulls away. But he's still kinda smiling, so it's clear he's not mad, just slightly uncomfortable at the touch.
While we know there's many different variations of Sonic's character throughout the franchise, this trait is pretty consistent. Something very similar to this situation happens in the second live action movie, when Sonic tells Tails that they're pals, and Tails hugs him. Once again, look at Sonic's response.
He's startled and pretty quickly picks Tails up and puts him back, but he's smiling amidst it. Same as before; enjoying the emotion, but not necessarily comfortable with the means of affection.
Yeah, yeah, at the end of the movie after he comes back from being Super, Maddie and Tom both come running and each individually hug him. Sonic doesn't pull away that time, and I think he's more okay with it that time, since barely five minutes before they thought they were going to die together. He just kinda smiles a little and closes his eyes when they hug him.
(on a side note those screenshots give me such happiness 🥹 this family >>>)
I'm gonna leave it at that for this post, but yeah, this is part 1. Mostly because I can't add many more images, and I had too many more to share. Part 2, which I'll post as quickly as possible, will move on to Sonic X and apply these things to Sonamy. 😁💞

Summary: She was a rose that was grounded and secure. He was the wind, wild and free. A look into the various stages of Sonic and Amy's relationship. 100 theme challenge for SonAmy.
I really wanted to get some comfort in after all that hurt and angst...so without further ado, I present the new chapter! Sneak peak below <3
Chapter 11: 33%
------------------------------------
With some groggy effort, she managed to open her eyes. Panic clouded her mind when all she saw was white washed walls, but she could not recall why it bothered her so much. Everything was so bright. She blinked, trying to adjust to the light when she spotted a refreshing splash of blue out of the corner of her eyes.
Sonic.
He sat in a chair next to the bed she was currently laying in. His arms folded neatly over the covers while his head rested in the center of his makeshift pillow. Eyes closed, lashes fluttering occasionally. Amy wondered what heroes dreamt of while they slept.
Wait a minute. Why was he here? Where was here?

Through It All: A Sonamy Story - Chapter 3: "Wait What, I'm In Love"
Sonic sat on his bed, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. The sheets were twisted off his body by that point. He couldn't believe what he had come to realize - he was in love with Amy. It felt like his world had been turned upside down, and he didn't know what to do. He had always thought of Amy as just a friend, someone he cared about deeply but never in a romantic way. He pulled himself out of bed as if he had a horrible nightmare.
He paced around his room, trying to shake off the feeling. "This can't be happening," he muttered to himself. "I can't be in love with Amy. We're just friends." But no matter how much he tried to convince himself, the truth remained. He couldn't deny the way his heart raced when he was around her, or how much he looked forward to spending time with her. He couldn’t deny that a Sonic that never changed would accept a request for a date. It was like a lightbulb had gone off in his head, illuminating something he should have realized happened when it did. Sonic flopped down onto his bed and stared up at the ceiling again, his mind whirring with a thousand questions. He knew that Amy fell head-over-heels for him all those years ago on Little Planet, but the Amy he knew now was so different that he truly couldn't tell if those feelings remained.
"Oh, the irony," he thought to himself. Sonic tossed and turned in his bed, unable to get comfortable. He wondered if he should talk to someone about what he was feeling, but who could he talk to? Tails was always a good listener, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to confide in his best friend about this yet. Knuckles was another possibility, but he wasn't exactly known for his emotional intelligence, and he was on Angel Island anyways. Sonic rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. He needed to clear his head and get some fresh air.
He got up from his bed and went to his closet, grabbing his signature running shoes. Outside, the sun bathed the streets in a golden glow, casting long shadows that danced at Sonic's feet. The gentle breeze tousled his quills, carrying with it the scent of freshly mown grass and the distant melody of chirping birds. With each step, the soft earth beneath his shoes seemed to ground him, calming the whirlwind of thoughts in his mind. Sonic took a deep breath of the fresh air and felt a sense of calm wash over him. He started to jog down the street, his mind still racing. He tried to focus on the feel of the wind in his quills and the sound of his feet hitting the pavement, but his thoughts kept returning to Amy. He couldn't shake the feeling that he had to tell her how he felt, but he didn't want to risk their friendship. As he ran, Sonic thought back to all the times he and Amy had spent together. He remembered how she would always follow him around, constantly trying to get him to notice her. He used to find it annoying, but now he couldn't help but feel a bit flattered by her attention. It was like she saw something in him that he didn't even see in himself. He didn't want to hurt her, but he also didn't want to keep his feelings bottled up inside. He didn't even know if she still liked him. As Sonic jogged down the street, he couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt in his chest. How could he have been so blind to his own feelings? How could he have missed all the signs that were so obvious now? How could he have lived in the dark? How could he never notice this change until possibly too late? He slowed his pace to a walk as he tried to process his emotions. He thought about many things. About love, about loss, about friends, about enemies, about needs, about wants, about good, about evil. He thought many things about these many subjects. Moments later, Cream's voice interrupted Sonic's thoughts as she called out to him, pulling him back to reality. "Hey Mr. Sonic, what are you doing out here?" Cream asked as she skipped up beside him. Sonic forced a smile, trying to hide his inner confusion. "Just taking a walk, Cream," he replied, trying to sound casual. Cream looked up at him, her big brown eyes full of concern. "Is everything okay?" she asked. Sonic hesitated for a moment before answering. He trusted Cream, and maybe talking to someone would help clear his head. "Actually, Cream, I'm not sure if everything is okay," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. Cream looked up at him, her expression softening. "What's wrong, Mr. Sonic? You can talk to me." Sonic took a deep breath, trying to find the words to express what he was feeling. "Well okay, now don't tell anyone else, but...I think I might have...feelings for...someone." he finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. Cream's eyes widened. "Who could it be?", she softly yet excitedly asked. Sonic's brain moved at it's top speed, trying to think up a good answer. "I'm not interested in telling. The important part is, I'm not sure how to feel about it, or what to do about it." Cream nodded thoughtfully, "I understand. It can be really confusing and scary when you're not sure what to do with your feelings." Sonic was relieved that Cream didn't press him for more details. "Yeah, it's just that I don't want to ruin anything, you know? This...person...and I are friends." he said, feeling a knot form in his stomach. Cream gave him a gentle smile. "I think if this person is really your friend, they'll understand that you need to be honest with them about how you feel," she said wisely. Sonic nodded slowly, feeling slightly better. "Thanks, Cream. You always know just what to say," he said, patting her on the head.
Cream giggled and skipped off down the street, leaving Sonic to his thoughts once again. As he continued his walk, Sonic couldn't help but feel a sense of small hope. Cream's words had given him some comfort, but he still didn't know if he was ready to talk to Amy about his feelings. At least it got him out of his spinning mind.
As he walked, he found himself passing by a familiar tree, one that he had sat under many times before. He felt a sudden urge to sit down and think for a while, so he made his way over to it and sat down. Sonic settled beneath the comforting shade of the tree, its leaves rustling in the breeze above him. The dappled sunlight painted a mosaic of warmth on his face, evoking memories of laughter and adventures shared with Amy and all his other friends. The gentle sway of the branches whispered tales. As he looked out at the view, he felt a strong sense of nostalgia. He remembered all the good times he and Amy had shared, and he thought hard. "Wait, why am I denying a fact? Something I know is true? Why am I denying a true fact? A fact that ... You know what, I'm right. I, Sonic the Hedgehog, have fallen in love, with Amy Rose. I’ve changed and I'm okay with that. Oh, the irony." He let out a chuckle as he walked back to his house, a wide smile on his face.

for the violence game: 3, 6, 10, 14, 16
(dont have to answer all, just chose the ones i think would sound interesting)
3. So many fucking people use the implication of Sonic being tortured in Sonic Forces to be fucking freaks. If I ever have to read anything about these weird ass “headcanons” that Infinite raped or tried to rape Sonic again I’m going to beat everyone who used this as an opportunity to inject rape shit into a children’s franchise to death.
6. Sonamy fans aren’t always bad, the ship makes me kind of uncomfortable bc 12-15 is not a great age gap but some people just cannot take that for an answer and they are SO annoying. The one Sonamy shipper who sent me an ask abt it a hot minute ago was super respectful and kind but so many of them take it as some personal attack or some indication that I am a stupid, hateful and hypocritical person because I don’t like the idea of a high school sophomore dating a seventh grader
10. All of the fanon shit around Shadow is so bad. I understand the appeal of making Shadow have a softer side, I really do, but people treat him like a fucking pathetic overemotional infant. That or they just kind of pretend that Shadow is some hot daddy dom edgelord top bf goal hotboy and not a teenager with PTSD which is way worse.
14. People who do not understand that ptsd manifests in several ways. Sorry this is all about Sonic, but. People LOVE to write trauma fics. And I get the appeal, I love trauma fics myself. But the problem is people forget that trauma and especially ptsd look different for different people. And so everyone just writes any character with ptsd as “sad, soft, scared, nightmares, flashbacks, crying, needs someone to love them, hurt/comfort, give them a big tough bf” and completely boil down them down to some mischaracterized puddle of tears that needs a blanket and some hot cocoa
16. Sonic.exe fics and shit. 90% of the time it’s just graphic torture of little kids.

PROMPT REQUESTS ARE ON SHUTDOWN, DO NOT SEND ANY TO ME, please and thank you ;3c
Prompt:
It was a pretty late night. I hadn’t seen Amy so upset before.
Usually, in the past, it wasn’t uncommon for Amy to come rushing to me--arms flung out and moving like a speed train with tears that sprawled into sparkling stars against the sky.
I always, usually, kinda-sorta, caught her and just let her cry it out with an awkward smile to my face.
But this time... Amy wanted to be alone.
That was weird. I first heard about it from Tails, who said that she had been reading some articles about the team and how they’ve said some pretty critiquing things about her... I’ve never really dealt with anything like that.
Joking, completely, I’ve totally had my fair share. But what about Amy? I always figured... well, she came off as pretty independently confident all on her own. I didn’t think she cared that much about what everyone thought of her.
So I was a bit concerned by Tails’s words, but I thought nothing of it. Waved it off as a momentary sadness for her, after all, this was Amy! She could bounce back from anything.
If it was really serious, I figured she would have come charging after me like before.
The stars weren’t here tonight... odd.
Sorry, where was I? Oh, yeah. The second time I heard anything a little more alarming was from Knuckles. Apparently, Amy had come to seek some solace from the unconditionally loving Chao--now this had been a solid day and half since I’ve heard about the incident of her wanting to be alone after reading some bad commentary on her--and she would shake the chao away from clinging to her.
He said he didn’t get it, cause she used to love to cuddle them and they all were really hurt by her wanting to keep her distance and just pat their heads.
Now, if anything were to set me and Knuckles off, it was that.
His face was so strained as he talked to me about it, I’ve never seen Knuckles trying to hold back so much worry and anger before. He said he tried to go over and give her a piece of his mind, but when she turned around, her eyes were vacant of anything but tears.
“It looked like she thought she had done something wrong before she even did it.” He stated, “I didn’t have the heart to continue yelling at her, so I just shooed her away, telling her to pick on someone else if she was feeling that crummy.”
“Harsh, Knuckles. Harsh.” I joked, but there was a low-key truth to what I said. “Tails said something about harsh comments on some articles she likes to read about us.” The old alter of the Master Emerald’s shrine was as stony and gravely as ever. The little pieces of chipped pebbles always grinded and dug themselves under my fur and into my skin every time I sat there, but Knuckles acted like nothing ever phased his tough skin.
I was acting kinda tough, too... to be real honest with you.
Knuckles huffed, grumbling as he picked up some berry juice he had squashed into a half-coconut bowl and passed one over to me. “Doesn’t excuse telling a kid they can’t hold ya.” He was right... but then again...
“Maybe she just didn’t want the sympathy.” It was hard to look at it from a girl’s point of view, I didn’t quite understand what would tip her over the edge like that. Maybe they said she wasn’t pretty enough..? Ehh..?
“Girls really care about how others view them, you know?” I took a sip. It did in fact taste good, and I leaned back to let the slight acidy feel tingle against my throat as its favorable burst went down the ol’pipe. “Ahh~ That’s the spot!”
“...I don’t think you should be acting so carefree about this, Sonic.”
His sudden tone made me stop enjoying the berry sensation and look back to him, a little surprised but not by much. Knuckles always chose the direct route in any conversation, it’s what made him so easy and frustrating to talk to.
I smiled and closed my eyes, putting a foot down a step to stretch it out and sighed.
“...Yeah. I know.”
“If you know, then why don’t you do something about it!?” Knuckles, always ready to pull his voice out and speak up when he sees something he doesn’t like. “The very fact that she’s a girl means you should do somethin’ about it! Girls aren’t meant to mope about, they gotta be treated decently! Ain’t that half your job?!” ...Still, it made me like him like that. He was a good guy, and had the real makings of a hero--at least, to my standards--and a good friend at that!
“Half, huh?” I took another sip. Did everyone think me and Amy were something more..? After all these years, I hadn’t the slightest clue. Seems everyone else held a standard in their mind about it though...
“I’m serious! Aren’t you planning to do something about it?”
“Am I?” I smirked, not liking to be asked direct questions about myself. I took the coconut drink down and set it to the side, getting up and stretching my arm out in a few simple gestures. Spreading it across my chest and pulling it with my other hand, then twisting my torso right and down as I put the other arm back and used the one I’d momentarily stretched to reach sky high with it. “Boy, that feels good!”
“Grr... Sonic... if you’re making fun of this, I’ll-!” Before getting Knuckles too wound up, seeing him lift his fists again, I flicked myself in my usual--Sonic Charm~
I winked and wiggled my pointer finger, turning one leg to be slightly bent as I was about to speed off anyway.
I had heard what I wanted too, now time to do some more digging before investigating it right at it’s source.
“Don’t worry so much, Knuckles! Like I’d ever leave Amy to her own assumptions.” I still wasn’t sure what she was struggling with... but wanting to be alone and not have anyone clinging to her in affection?
Didn’t sound like Amy Rose to me.
While heading to dart off the island, I stopped by the chao and asked them what their story was.
Squatting down, I think I mustered up enough of my expertise in games to figure out their charaded play. It seems the chao could tell something was off from Amy’s usual, cheery nature. To try and help, they tried to swarm her as she usually did with endless hugs, but she delicately plucked each one off at a time and set them back down.
All she wanted was to sit, looking sadly between her arms and legs--I’m guessing the chao were trying to do the fetal upright position but their budgy bodies just can’t do it.--and pat their heads.
It made them uncomfortable to not be able to love on her, I assumed, and they continued to show me great concern as they held my arms in different places and showed me their adorable eyes.
“I get it, don’t worry, Amy’s gonna be just fine.” I smiled the best I could, but hearing... well, seeing their side of the story really... heh, opened my eyes?
Puns. Always a defense mechanism when you don’t intend to use them that way.
Something had me wanting to wait before I saw Amy again, though. Usually, that wasn’t like me, but I wanted a bigger picture.
I sped over to Cream’s and Vanilla’s, where I thought more insight might be had.
Tails had already called them, doing his own work to try and collect the pieces before directly asking Amy. We all knew Amy could be a bit... Nah, I won’t say it. But we wanted a better idea before we approached her about it.
Just safer that way...
I rubbed my head, remembering how easily one could fall into that hammer’s swing if they didn’t word things a bit more carefully, as Cream and Vanilla recounted Amy’s strange melancholy behavior, and how she wanted to seem less-
“Feminine?” That threw me for a loop, and trust me, I’ve had my fair share of running through loops.
“Well, not quite.” Vanilla was sitting on her lovely coach with Cream and Cheese sitting adjacent but slightly on her lap. She looked down at Cream who held her chin up a moment, wanting to be polite as she addressed me.
I did my best to hold a steady and kind eye-contact, but I could tell she was struggling to admit what she heard and saw.
“Miss Amy kept asking me strange questions. Like... Was she too much on something. I didn’t understand and she kept insisting I shouldn’t coddle her or lie to her. I didn’t know how to take that... I would never lie to Miss Amy! I just... didn’t understand what she wanted from me.”
It pained me to see that Amy had hurt someone from her own insecurities.
That was everything Amy stood against, and that’s when I knew this was getting out of hand.
I had let her be for a day just to see if she would either work it out on her own or come crying to me... but she hadn’t done either.
She was now hurting those close to her... and so it was time to intervene.
“Thank you for telling me that, Cream.” I purposefully spoke as tenderly as I could, “I’m sure that was hard for you. I’m very grateful you told me what happened.”
She buried herself into her mother’s chest, still hurt, and that drove a powerful fire through me.
That does it, Amy.
You don’t hurt people when you’re injured.
You come to someone stronger to help heal you if you can’t do it yourself.
At the time, I was really upset. Amy must have been polarized by the media.
They call her too traditional? Is that why she wanted to be more ‘tough’ like? Too protected? Too appeased?
Feminine... did she feel like a damsel in distress instead of our trusted friend?
I was trying to keep my head leveled, but I ended up closing my eyes during my run and letting the night’s air beat against me to try and cool myself off before finding her.
She wasn’t home, I checked the windows. No lights.
Unless she was sitting the dark, Amy always had a reading light on. She only turned every light off in her house when she was going to bed, so she could see the stars and feel like we were watching them together, no matter if we were far apart or not.
I looked to see she hadn’t any dirty dishes in the sink, and while peeking through the window, I noticed her drapes were down as well. That means she hadn’t been cooking or baking, and that she hadn’t opened the windows and pulled the drapes to let the smells carry, hoping I’d catch wind of it and invite myself in for a dinner with her.
I sped over to the city, thinking maybe she went on one of those ‘journey walks’ where she just window shops but ends up buying too many bags and waiting for me to bolt by and help her with them. She liked to think and experience things outside the home too... but I didn’t see her struggling with shopping bags anywhere.
She wasn’t watching Twinkle Park’s lights from her favorite outdoor restaurant, or purposefully losing her hat in hope’s I’d somehow see it and return it to her. She wasn’t sitting on her favorite spot with her favorite outdoor umbrella with her typical strawberry and vanilla shake and pretending she was too cold to finish it, bundling up and hoping I’d make a move and pull her closer or something.
She wasn’t in the fields where she’d pick flowers with Cream, or stare up at the clouds and reminisce about old times and stories we used to tell each other, or have her head on a bed of flowers so butterflies would come and sit on her still face as she dreamed of a future with me in it. Waiting for me to zip by and have the butterflies spread out and fly through my backdraft as the air around where I just blazed through would slowly return to a even, equilibrium.
She wasn’t anywhere I usually found her at.
I came up to my last spot I could think of. Why was this so hard? Amy could find me in a heartbeat... which... I couldn’t quite feel right now because it was fluttering dangerously like my shaky breaths.
I kept a strong look on my face, simply because I was worried my fear at not finding her would leak through and make her feel bad about being too well hidden.
I didn’t want her to feel bad... I didn’t want her to be alone for this long.
It had been the dark of the second day... I just wanted to see her. Make sure she was okay...
That anger that once fueled me was now popping in sparks of concern that made me walk around the rolling hills of Green Hill zone.
If she wasn’t here... looking for me... then I truly didn’t know where she was.
Eggman... would have been my next guess.
That, or Amy was replaced by a robot of his and was terrorizing the living daylights out of her friends!
... It was concerning. I wouldn’t worry. I couldn’t worry... Amy wasn’t a little girl anymore and hateful, spiting comments were to be expected when you live in the spotlight.
But I was just wanting to know where she was... how she was... It was starting to drive me crazy.
“Where are you... Amy?” I looked up to the sky, blank and black, and I didn’t like the omen it sent me. Like chills down my fur, the wind finally got to me. I felt the cold... empty world for the first time... realizing Amy was out in it without me.
Was she without her coat? Was she silently re-reading those awful articles?
‘Amy... Amy... Hear me... You’re not alone.’ My thoughts channeled through to my feet and I kept searching, darting here to there, scouting out east and west, north to south was like zig-zagging till every blade swayed left and right to make sure she wasn’t hiding somewhere in it’s darkened shade...
A crescent moon... not a full one. She liked the full moon.
‘Amy...’
As I ran through a rather flattened terrain of another zone, I watched to the side of me how the treelined slimmed down and the edge of the world rose up on a hill... that soon became a mountain.
Blocking my view... of any light the night could have brought to her.
She only liked the dark when she was about to sleep... it’d be too dark to really see her way home, soon.
I had confidence she knew her way home, that the world wasn’t that dangerous... but I wondered if her mind could be.
‘Amy...’ I bit down my teeth, charging forward in a streak of blue.
“AMMMMYYY!!!!”
----
As though hearing something in the distance, I raised my head and looked back over my shoulder.
Something kept telling me Sonic was looking for me... but I wondered if that was true this time.
I turned my solemn head with a sigh back to the last shred of light from the fading sun... I felt like... if I got any closer, I would feel it’s warmth envelop me completely... and I’d disappear from this world.
All these awful words in my head would cease, all this terrible feeling of not being enough, or too much, or just dull and unwanted... I wanted it all to go away.
I had cried and thought so much, self-reflected to the point of not even knowing where I was or how far I had traveled off too.
Tails said I was acting too sensitive to words that random people that didn’t even know me had said. Knuckles yelled at me when I tried to change my behavior so I wasn’t what those people had written about. Cream even got tongue-tied trying to voice her own thoughts about me... and ended up just saying something to ‘feed my ego’ as they put it.
No... Cream wouldn’t do that. Tails wouldn’t try and be so dismissive of me like they said they all are. Knuckles... Okay, Knuckles is loud and yells a lot, but he meant well..!
She groaned and let herself flop back to lay against the cold grass, still holding her arms around herself as she was getting terribly cold in her heartache.
Knuckles just didn’t like how the chao were reacting to my new behavior... it’s understandable they would have been apprehensive to me trying to love them a little less directly... But practicing my new, refined self on them didn’t seem to have any good effects...
Maybe I’m overthinking... but I just want someone to tell me... I’m alright.
She put her arms over her eyes, refusing to look up at such a dark and ugly sky tonight.
“I just-” she sniffed, feeling the hot tears break through her already stained, sticky cheeks full of her earlier dried tears again. “I just want someone to tell me I’m perfect the way I am..!”
A sound arrowed itself into a bow along the plain of where Amy was, a sound that soared through her like a sonicboom that cracked through to her heart and made her sit up, looking as though with outrageous hope towards the last lowering light of the sun’s touch...
The grassy hill behind her seemed to have made a sound like something was moving quickly across it’s tundra... like something was refusing to let her sit in the quietness to let her thoughts overwhelm and consume her.
Her thoughts could hear someone calling her name...
“Sonic..?”
She lightly whispered his name out.
Then, as though pushing her lips back to not bother him, but wanting more than anything to jump into his arms-!
“SOOONIICCC!!!”
-----
He zoomed back to the sound, his eyes raising as though elated to finally get a trace of her.
And those tears that sparkled and lit up the entire night sky with stars...
And those arms that reached out for him, as though stretching on for eternity... a never-ending yearning he always accepted, granted a little half-heartedly, but never refused.
That scene was forever imprinted on him... and he wasn’t letting Amy leave his sights till she was her usual, teasingly flirty and emotionally unbreakable, spirited and youthful self again!
